- speaker-0: For most of history, children simply just learned alongside their parents. It was not learning about, it was learning with. Yep. ⁓ and most families were actually together. speaker-1: You your homeschool experience and and basically what you said is really what it's all about. There you you didn't say, ⁓ it was that math book or that language arts curriculum that my mom just really dialed in. She picked the best curriculum there was. You didn't. You said it was just an extension of life. It was an extension of home. It was the time spent and the experiences had that really that stuck with you and ultimately made you who you are. I mean, you started out in the womb at the at you know, down fighting against abortion with your mom and then that carried through up until now. ⁓ and I think this is kind of what I want you to speak at. You're not a homeschool mom, but you are a a product of homeschool. And I want you to speak can you believe it? I'm gonna call it as it is. but the the thing is is we so often moms think we're we're just putting focus on all the wrong things. I mean speaker-0: You assume I'm gender. speaker-1: Every mom that listens to this is like, we're in the summer break. I gotta get the next curriculum for the fall. Like, I gotta get the right math. I gotta get the right language. And then we're listening to Seth Gruber, who is making a huge impact on the world, be like, you didn't say a word about any of the curriculum because it really isn't about that. And so I want you to speak to that mom who's getting so bogged down by all the wrong things, thinking that the right math curriculum is gonna, you know, prepare her child for what's to come. Talk to that mom. speaker-0: Well, so our even our modern ideas about education today, ⁓ are like pretty gay. ⁓ and what I mean by that is like disordered or effeminate is was how I'm using the word gay. Even the fact that like Christian families or home school families are like obsessing over curriculum, ⁓ and what kind of, you know, framework ⁓ to use when they approach learning to read or Or logic or math. That itself is sort of a byproduct of our ⁓ of modernity and the liberal establishment. You know, this is this is a whole podcast for another time. Frankly, you should probably have my friend Heidi Saint John on. ⁓ but speaker-1: Or Alex Newman. We've had Heidi and Alex Newman. I don't know if you know him, but he's a friend. Alex makes everybody feel ⁓ speaker-0: So stupid. He's one of our favorite guests on the show whenever we have him on my show. But ⁓ there's been a long agenda and attempt ⁓ by the state to intervene in education. the the the norm in education was was not putting eight year olds to sit on their rear end for six hours. ⁓ speaker-1: Especially boy. speaker-0: Right. Even in homeschooling, if a homeschool mother feels like that she they need to spend four hours a day on curriculum or learning, ⁓ or lectures, that itself is proof of how enduring the impact of liberalism and modernity has been on the twenty first century mindset. For most of history, children simply just learned alongside their parents. It was not learning about, it was learning with. Yep. and most families were actually together because before the Industrial Revolution, most ⁓ fathers operated their business out of the home. Sure, there might have been some unique cases of like a an attorney, you know, who had to go into the office, but most fathers, their trade was their business. It was how that they produced income. And the wife, the mother, assisted her husband in that family venture that turned a profit for the family. And children were learning alongside them. And they were learning the trades, they were learning reading and writing. They were learning education alongside the career of their father in order to be able to assist. And so a lot of education just happened naturally. And I I see that with young members of our team as well. I think the youngest hire we made ⁓ he was 18 when he started at the White Rose Resistance. and I I was looking at him the other day and thinking, like, ⁓ my gosh, how much further ahead would I be right now if I had just ditched college and at 18 tried to join like an organization similar to mine, which is the White Rose Resistance, and travel the country, ⁓ and be able to speak and learn and meet people and ask questions like I would be so much further ahead than the four years I wasted in college learning nothing of value. And so I think that that is the best advice I could give a homeschooling mother is do everything you can to do things together as a family. Cause your children will learn far more ⁓ working alongside you. than by sitting their rear end down for four hours a day and hearing lectures. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by BJU Press Homeschool, CTC Math, and the Explorer Bible for Kids.
