- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So talking about the claymation show Rudolph the Red Nosed
- 0:35Reindeer today. Why the heck is she talking
- 0:38about this? Well, because first of all, it
- 0:40used to be one of my favorite things when I was a kid to wait
- 0:42all year long and see Rudolph come on and sit there and watch
- 0:46it. And I was always enamored with
- 0:48it, how they did it. I couldn't get over how mean
- 0:51everyone was to him and I could not get over that the adults
- 0:55were just as mean as the kids. And you know, last two, two
- 0:59nights ago, three nights ago, we watched it.
- 1:01My son and I watched it and you know, it's an unedited version.
- 1:06It has lots of things in there that we in today's world could
- 1:10sit there and say is offensive. And when you really pick at it,
- 1:14you can find quite a few of them.
- 1:15Quite honestly. However, the crux of why we're
- 1:19talking about this today is the fact that Rudolph, for all his,
- 1:25you know, great history, we all love the story of Rudolph the
- 1:28Red Nosed Reindeer. We think he's, he's the star,
- 1:30you know, he's the, he's the hero of Christmas when you know
- 1:34the story. But when you really go back and
- 1:36you look at how he became the hero, it truly is the hero's
- 1:40journey. It is him having this horrible
- 1:44experience as a child, leaving because he felt like he was so
- 1:49different meeting up with, you know, Hermie, who wanted to be
- 1:52the the dentist and the two of them taking off to into the
- 1:55Bumble and Cornelius and all of these other, you know,
- 2:01characters that take them on this journey and they have to go
- 2:05off. And then his father finally
- 2:07figures out, you know, he was wrong.
- 2:08He's got to go find his son. And then his mom and Clarice
- 2:11take off looking for him and he comes back and he discovers that
- 2:16they're in danger and he has to go look for them.
- 2:18And then he truly becomes the hero.
- 2:20It is quite the epic journey and it really does define a hero,
- 2:25his journey. And as I was watching it and I
- 2:27was thinking about, my goodness, if this isn't a hero's journey,
- 2:30I don't know what is. This is this is stunningly right
- 2:33along that line. One of the things that cat that
- 2:36really caught my attention was how much he grew through that
- 2:42journey and how much he was not going to diminish his light, no
- 2:47pun intended. But really it's such a great 1.
- 2:49He would not diminish his light anymore to make somebody else
- 2:53feel comfortable or to put them at ease because he was
- 2:56different. He was willing to shine as
- 2:58brightly as he could, as different as he was.
- 3:02And I sat there and I said to my son, who's almost 16, as we were
- 3:06watching it, I said, you know what's really funny about this?
- 3:09I mean, think about it. Think about how this works when
- 3:12somebody's different and they try to fit in.
- 3:14I mean, why try to fit in? Why?
- 3:17What's the purpose of trying to fit in and what's the reason
- 3:21that we do it? Why are we so terrified to not
- 3:24fit in in some way, shape or form?
- 3:27Now, what's interesting to me about this is even when you are
- 3:32strange and you have when your own mind, a strange version of
- 3:36yourself, that's where I'm talking about.
- 3:38It is a strange version of yourself.
- 3:41You're still trying to look typically for other people that
- 3:45are strange like you. Like I spent a lot of time
- 3:48looking for people that were strange like me, my kind of
- 3:51strange. Because inherently as human
- 3:53beings, we all want to be part of a group and we all want to be
- 3:58part of something. And sometimes we morph into
- 4:02things to be part of something. They're maybe not exactly who we
- 4:06are, but we can morph into it. So I know as a child, I did not
- 4:11hang around with other people who wanted to farm and grow
- 4:14vegetables and plants and all of that.
- 4:17Yet that was just part of what I loved.
- 4:19I learned it from my dad and my uncles and I just was like, OK,
- 4:23this is me. I love this.
- 4:24But I didn't, I, I didn't like, I couldn't find people that
- 4:29wanted to do that and I was terrified to go off and do it on
- 4:32my own. So I let that part diminish.
- 4:34My light went very dim for a very long time.
- 4:39And once I was able to get it, once I was able to see what was
- 4:42happening and I was able to bring it back out, it didn't
- 4:45matter if I had people or not. It still doesn't matter if I
- 4:47have people or not. I'm going to shine that light no
- 4:50matter what. Hence doing this podcast from a
- 4:53chicken coop. So my point of bringing it up is
- 4:56whatever your strangeness is, whatever your weirdness is,
- 4:59wherever you are, just embrace it.
- 5:02And we don't always have to find the group.
- 5:04We just have to recognize like Rudolph did.
- 5:07Doesn't matter. He's.
- 5:07The only one that's got a Red Nose?
- 5:09Guess what? He's the only one in the story
- 5:10that's got a Red Nose. And he didn't.
- 5:12Care at the end he was like, all right, I got it.
- 5:14I'm owning this Red Nose and I'm saving Christmas because I'm
- 5:16going to be the bad ass reindeer who saves Christmas.
- 5:20And I know it's a story people. So please, if you're going to
- 5:22message me, I know it's a story, but it's a good story because he
- 5:26was able to be his original version of himself and it's so
- 5:29awesome that he did. All right my friends, I hope you
- 5:32have a blessed day and shine on and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:35Bye.
