- Lucas: Hej och välkomna tillbaka till Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hej! I'm Luna, and I'm ready to learn some more Swedish. Last time we were buying a backpack, right? Lucas: Exactly, you got that one down. Today, we're going to do something a little different. We're going to a bookstore, but not to buy a book. Luna: Oh, what are we buying then? Lucas: A map. En karta. Luna: En karta. A map. That makes sense, especially if you're exploring a new city. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start with the basics. To say 'I would like a map,' you say, Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Lucas: Slowly: Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you're in a store and you want to ask if they have a map of the city, you say, Har ni en karta över staden? Luna: Har ni en karta över staden? That means 'Do you have a map of the city?' Lucas: Right. Let's practice that. Har ni en karta över staden? Luna: Har ni en karta över staden? Lucas: Great. And if you want to ask what maps they have, you can say, Vilka kartor har ni? Luna: Vilka kartor har ni? What maps do you have? Lucas: Yes. Let's try it together. Vilka kartor har ni? Luna: Vilka kartor har ni? Lucas: Now, let's say you find one you like. You might ask, Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? How much does this map cost? Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice that one. Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Lucas: Perfect. And finally, if you decide to buy it, you can say, Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Luna: Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. That's 'This map is really good. I'll take it, thanks.' Lucas: Exactly. So let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine you walk into a bookstore. You say, Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Lucas: The clerk asks, Vilka kartor har ni? No, that's not right. The clerk would say, Vi har kartor över staden. But you ask, Har ni en karta över staden? Luna: Har ni en karta över staden? Lucas: And then you ask, Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Lucas: And then you decide, Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Luna: Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Lucas: That was perfect, Luna. You're getting really good at these shopping phrases. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. It helps that we practice these all the time. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Swedish, just like it helps me, you could consider supporting us. We love making this show, and it stays ad-free because of listeners like you. Lucas: That's true. If you ever want to buy us a coffee, you can do that at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. But no pressure, we're just happy you're here. Luna: Yeah, we're glad you're learning with us. So, back to maps. In Swedish, remember to use 'karta' for map, and 'kartor' for maps. Let's practice the plural quickly. Lucas: Good idea. So, Vilka kartor har ni? is a great question. Let's repeat it once more. Luna: Vilka kartor har ni? Lucas: And remember, if you want to say 'this map,' it's 'den här kartan.' Luna: Den här kartan. That's a good one to remember. Lucas: Let's do a quick review of all the phrases from today. Lucas: Fourth, Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Lucas: And fifth, Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Luna: Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Lucas: Perfect. Now, one thing to note: 'karta' is a common noun, so it takes 'en' in the indefinite form. And in the definite form, it becomes 'kartan.' Luna: So it's 'en karta' and 'kartan.' That makes sense. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's imagine you're in Stockholm and you want to buy a map. What do you say? Luna: I'd say, Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Lucas: And if you specifically want a map of the city? Luna: Har ni en karta över staden? Lucas: Great. And if you want to ask about the price? Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Lucas: Nice. And then you decide to take it? Luna: Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Lucas: You nailed it, Luna. I think you're ready to buy a map in Swedish. Let's do one more practice round, but this time, I'll be the store clerk, and you be the customer. Luna: Okay, let's do it. Lucas: Hej, kan jag hjälpa dig? Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en karta. Lucas: Vi har kartor över staden. Vilken vill du ha? Luna: Har ni en karta över staden? Lucas: Ja, här är en. Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Actually, that's your line. Luna: Hur mycket kostar den här kartan? Lucas: Den kostar femtio kronor. Luna: Den här kartan är jättebra. Jag tar den, tack. Lucas: That was excellent, Luna. I'm really impressed. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I'm starting to feel more confident with these shopping scenarios. Lucas: And that's what we want. Remember, practice makes perfect. So keep these phrases in mind next time you're in a Swedish bookstore. Luna: Or even if you're just exploring a Swedish city. A map can be really handy. Lucas: Absolutely. Well, that's all for today's episode. Thanks for joining us, and we'll see you next time. Hej då! Luna: Hej då! Keep practicing, everyone!
