- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. Today we are talking about the
- 0:31power of choosing who you want to be and not just falling into
- 0:35the habit of who you are currently being.
- 0:39You know, choice is something that I talk about a lot with my
- 0:43clients in this podcast. It is just a never ending
- 0:47conversation because the beautiful piece about being a
- 0:51human being is that we have the power of choice.
- 0:54Always. You know, people will say, well,
- 0:56I don't have the power of choice.
- 0:57I'm trapped in this marriage, or I'm trapped in this job or I'm
- 1:00trapped here. And I'm like, no, you actually
- 1:02do have the power of choice because you choose what it means
- 1:05to you. And we go back and forth about
- 1:07how in fact there was another podcast that's going up talking
- 1:11about you get to choose your focus on this.
- 1:14And I can't stress enough, you always get to choose your
- 1:19perspective and the meaning. That is hands down.
- 1:23I can't force it for you. I can talk to you till you're
- 1:25blue in the face. Until I'm blue in the face.
- 1:28And I cannot get you to see something that's different
- 1:32unless you decide to. I mean, it would be great if I
- 1:34could put a little chip in your head and just say okay, sure,
- 1:37here I want you to be positive all the time.
- 1:39But it doesn't work like that, because our experience in this
- 1:42world is meant to to cultivate us for having faith, having the
- 1:48ability to know that we internally.
- 1:51Have complete control over ourselves and our beliefs about
- 1:56where we are. So one of the greatest examples
- 1:59of this, my favorite examples of this I should say, is the Man
- 2:04Search for Meaning by Elie Wiesel.
- 2:06He was in a concentration camp. Now if there was ever a time,
- 2:12ever a time that somebody was being controlled by outside
- 2:15forces, this was it. War between, you know, the
- 2:19everyone in the world. People being chosen to go into
- 2:23concentration camps for no crime whatsoever other than some
- 2:28lunatic taking over and being watching everyone in their
- 2:32family get murdered. Yet this man came through this
- 2:36and had a perspective like no other.
- 2:39And if you've never read the book, it is life changing to
- 2:43read the book and. When you watch everything around
- 2:47you crumble and you still have love in your heart, that is a
- 2:51choice. We can always, always, always
- 2:56come to this place where we get to choose our words, we get to
- 3:01choose our thoughts, we get to choose our emotions and our
- 3:05feelings, and we get caught up in the fact that we don't
- 3:09actually have that ability, but we do.
- 3:12And one of the most fundamental places that starts.
- 3:15In in my world when I'm working with clients is always well, who
- 3:19do you choose to be it. It's probably one of the top 10
- 3:23most profound questions that you can ask yourself is who do I
- 3:28choose to be in this moment? I know for myself that is when I
- 3:33realized how I was showing up at when my son was small after I
- 3:36waited so long. He's adopted.
- 3:38We waited so long to have him and.
- 3:41By the time, you know, we got him, I was, I mean, I was
- 3:45thrilled. I couldn't have been more
- 3:46thrilled, but I was completely caught up in my role of running
- 3:52this team that was traveling all over the world and I wasn't
- 3:56appreciating what I had worked so hard to create in my life and
- 4:00have my son show up. And my son didn't come from
- 4:03great conditions and I I just I was so caught up in external
- 4:10forces. That I wasn't paying attention
- 4:14to what I needed to pay attention to.
- 4:15And this little soul shifted my entire world one day because he
- 4:20was trying to tell me something. He was three years old, trying
- 4:23to tell me something. And he grabbed my face and he
- 4:26said, Mama, listen to me. And I wasn't listening to him.
- 4:30And in that moment the question that I so I'm so grateful I had
- 4:34programmed into myself for other things.
- 4:37Well, who do you choose to be right now?
- 4:40Went off in my head. Who do you choose to be right
- 4:42now? The person that's reading the
- 4:43paperwork to get ready for this trip or the person that listens
- 4:46to this little soul that you waited forever for?
- 4:50And I wanted to be the person that was his mother.
- 4:54And I stopped and I paused and I said, holy cow, wait.
- 4:58I have a choice. I get to choose how I show up.
- 5:02I get to choose who I want to be.
- 5:05I get to choose this. Nobody else, nobody else can go
- 5:08in my head and do this. It's just me, myself and I.
- 5:11So when I tell you that you can do this, you can do this.
- 5:16But if you don't stop, if you don't take that moment to pause
- 5:20and ask those questions that are so important.
- 5:24Who do I choose to be? How do I choose to show up in
- 5:27this situation? Is this the person I choose to
- 5:30be? So if you are in a nasty.
- 5:33State of mind If you are angry, if you are frustrated and you
- 5:36walk in and you decide to spew that anger in your family or in
- 5:41your work environment with your, you know, whoever you work with
- 5:45because you had a bad morning, you have to stop and ask
- 5:48yourself, is this the person I choose to be?
- 5:51I mean, granted there are times when you do want to use that
- 5:53part of yourself because it is helpful.
- 5:56All emotions are necessary. As I've said before, and I said
- 5:59it in the bus book, it is. 100% all emotions are useful, but not
- 6:04at an extended length of time. You have to use them like salt
- 6:09and spices. Overdoing it doesn't work.
- 6:12So you have to ask yourself, you know, is this who I choose to
- 6:15be? No.
- 6:16Okay. Well then stop it.
- 6:18Shift it, do something about it. So I want you to thoughtfully
- 6:22start thinking about and asking yourself that question
- 6:25regularly. Because greatness comes from
- 6:27that, my friends. The more you ask yourself that
- 6:30question, the more you have power in your life.
- 6:34The more you have greatness in your life, the more you move
- 6:37towards attracting everything you're looking for.
- 6:40So I will see you tomorrow.
