- 0:44Okay, we got to get into these topics because we got a lot to talk about in a little bit of time because guess what?
- 0:51I know something is coming down the pipeline bag road Domus is back in effect folks
- 0:57I don't know who's gonna get paid, but someone's gonna get paid before then this week mark my words
- 1:02You're ready here first now. We have a lot to talk about okay?
- 1:06Russell Wilson has been named the starter the Steelers we already knew that already knew that but who really cares
- 1:12Dowson Cook goes to the Cowboys
- 1:14Ernest Jones is traded to Titans John Ridge
- 1:17Ridgeway goes to the Saints Elijah Moldin goes to the charges Taylor Heidecki goes to the Chargers Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch
- 1:25Our voice in their frustrations about brand-new looks still not doing anything Malik neighbors is is
- 1:32Gets the blessing to wear the number one jersey for the Giants and somewhat breaking news
- 1:38But not breaking news because news already broken. Everyone's already talked about it
- 1:41Jacobi Brissette is named the starting quarterback for the Patriots. Okay, all of this and more
- 1:47Okay, we want to deep dive into as much things we can possibly cannot write all of this and more on the 30th episode
- 1:53Of the football donkeys podcast. I am your host your bag road Domus your chief head of the table chief
- 2:01Bag meteorologist, okay
- 2:03The person who has predicted things and they have come to pass within the past three weeks
- 2:08But I'm already putting out prediction right now before this episode even starts guess what trip Williams is gonna get paid for
- 2:13Brin on you boom you just heard that here first on the football donkeys podcast
- 2:18I am your host kale your GM who still does not
- 2:23Have a position right now on a particular team who will go anonymous because they are paying me under the table
- 2:30But who cares because guess what you already know I'm getting ready say you're probably gonna say the same thing
- 2:35So we're all gonna say together one two three lock in
- 3:05All right folks let's just get into everything the meat and potatoes of
- 3:23Everything that's going on in the national football like also also Kyle's football starts tonight as well
- 3:29Colorado is playing tonight at eight o'clock. Okay. I know I'm gonna be watching it
- 3:33I'm gonna have my popcorn and maybe some wings and maybe some other things as well as
- 3:38You know, maybe a Reese's Cup or something. I don't know
- 3:40I'm just super excited super juice super pump for this because this is the 30th episode
- 3:46But let's get into it. Okay, Russell Wilson has been named the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers
- 3:53No, brainer right no brain
- 3:56When we look at this, you know, Mike Tomlin is a is a coach who values
- 4:01a veteran quarterbacks a lot especially
- 4:04Winning veteran quarterbacks a way to try to sell the idea of Russell Wilson joining the Steelers. Okay, and
- 4:13You know, they they you know, they agreed to it. They liked it and you know, this was expected
- 4:19But I think we do have to somewhat go in a little bit of a deep dive
- 4:23About this choice simply because when we look at it, right?
- 4:27Justin Fields definitely could have definitely could have won or or couldn't made it as close
- 4:35Of a decision had he just done a little bit better when it came to the preseason games and training came
- 4:41Let's be real here because remember Russell Wilson wasn't really able to do anything for like the first for like a majority of training
- 4:48Can't because he was nursing a calf injury and so, you know, once you you know
- 4:54What once the noise not the noise once the news come down about that if I'm Justin Fields
- 5:00I have to go even harder because guess what?
- 5:02This is going to be my chance for me to be able to you know, try to convince Mike Tomlin to change his mind
- 5:10Because let's be real here folks the minute that Russell Wilson signed with the Steelers
- 5:15It was already written in stone that Russell Wilson was gonna be the week one starter. Okay, and you know
- 5:22If we're being real here, you probably want someone like Russell Wilson to start off simply because
- 5:28the first part of the of the season is
- 5:31I wouldn't say it's a cake walk, but it's a lot easier, right?
- 5:35So you can rack up a whole lot of wins and you can put yourself in a really good position, right?
- 5:40But that second half that second half is is hell in this cell
- 5:44Okay, you if anybody watched wrestling back in the day and any time there was a hell in a cell match and the undertaker was in it
- 5:51Whenever he whenever they would they whenever they was getting ready to start the match
- 5:55He would grab the cage and he would slam it and they were locking it or not
- 5:58That's exactly what what it's going to be for that second half for the Steelers now if I'm Justin Fields
- 6:05I wouldn't be offended by this
- 6:07I would use this as motivation because let's be real here
- 6:10They are going to incorporate Justin Fields in this offense. They are Justin Fields is just as athletic and
- 6:18You know able to move and it's fast enough to be able to get you first down if need be or to do
- 6:25You know a crazy trip play he can do that he can do that and so
- 6:29When we look at it, you know, it's definitely a good situation because Justin Fields is able to sit
- 6:36Well, not necessarily sit, but he's able to learn
- 6:40under Russell Wilson or what to do and what not to do because
- 6:42My prediction is I think the Steelers are going to invest into Justin Fields long term
- 6:49I think Justin Fields is the future quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers
- 6:53I do believe that and I truly believe that listen that they're probably they're probably told Justin listen
- 6:59This isn't this doesn't mean that you know that we don't view you as a starting quarterback or anything like that
- 7:06It's just we value Russell Wilson's credentials and what he's been able to do in the league
- 7:11And we want to you know, we want to try to win now
- 7:16This doesn't necessarily mean that oh they're going to the playoffs this year or they're going to the Super Bowl this year
- 7:21No, I'm not saying that but you know
- 7:23If you want some if you want someone that's going to give you the best chance of winning
- 7:27Russell Wilson is probably the best chance and not to mention a lot is riding on this season for Russell Wilson because
- 7:34As of right now before he signed with the Steelers everybody consider him washed because of what happened with the whole Broncos situation
- 7:42And you know Sean Peyton and whatnot
- 7:44So this this a lot is riding on this season not only for the Steelers
- 7:49But also for Russell Wilson because guess what if he balls out this year if he does at least five to ten percent
- 7:57More than what he did last year in a positive way. I guarantee you he will he will
- 8:03We revive his market
- 8:04I would because they're gonna there's gonna be a team that's gonna value someone like a Russell Wilson and they'll throw the bag at him one more time
- 8:11I
- 8:12Truly believe that and I will stand on that but you know, I was definitely a little bit disappointed because I definitely thought Justin Fields
- 8:20You know from what I heard in training camp at one night
- 8:23He was definitely showing a lot of promise definitely showing a lot of upsides. I'm like, oh, okay
- 8:28This is gonna be this is gonna come down to the wire and you know the preseason the preseason games really didn't you know show
- 8:35Him the best and whatnot. So, you know, I wouldn't take it as as a punishment
- 8:42I would take it as a blessing personally now moving on to down the cook down the cook former
- 8:48Ravens jets and Vikings running back signs with the Cowboys
- 8:52You know, let's be real here folks the Cowboys needed someone like a down the cook
- 8:57Okay, because if you expect to give Zeke the ball 20 to 30 times a game
- 9:03You're not gonna get the best production out of him
- 9:05You're just not not in this stage of his career that burst that athleticism all those different types of things
- 9:12Has diminished just a little bit and you need someone you need someone who's somewhat of a dual threat in Dalvin cook who can do it
- 9:20You're talking about somebody who was able to not only truck you over
- 9:24But it also double as as receiving, you know running back as well. So all in all
- 9:30Things are starting to shape up in the Cowboys favor
- 9:33You know, this is definitely a do or die season for them as well because a lot is riding on this
- 9:39There is, you know, two other players that are looking for extensions Michael Parsons and that press card and
- 9:46You know, Jerry has has somewhat been on the fence about this whole that press card situation
- 9:52So it's a matter of what exactly is going to happen moving forward, honestly, because
- 9:59Remember they really didn't do anything in free agency
- 10:02They really didn't because they couldn't because they were trying to create cash space by trying to you know sign
- 10:09You know, at least all three of their players or at least one of their players and you know, they were able to get CD lamb done
- 10:15Thank God
- 10:16But now you got to worry about that press card and now you got worry about Michael Parsons
- 10:19But even then I don't even think they're really worried about Michael Parsons. I think they're probably going to trade away
- 10:25Michael Parsons, I truly believe that
- 10:28But you know only time will tell and let's see, you know, how things go with that now onto these trades
- 10:36Yes, because we we've had a lot of trade a lot of movement a lot of chains of scenery change of
- 10:42Furniture, you know furniture is being moved and whatnot from place to place here
- 10:46They're everywhere because of you know cut downs and whatnot. So let's start with Ernest Jones, okay?
- 10:52former Rams line linebacker Ernest Jones has been traded to the Titans
- 10:57So the Rams receive a 2026 fifth round pick and the Titans receive Ernest Jones, of course in a 2026 six round pick
- 11:04Now the only reason why this is happening is because the Rams and Ernest Jones could not come to an agreement to a contract extension now
- 11:11When we look at this, oh, actually, you know what?
- 11:14Let's let's go into the stats. Let's go into the stats and then let's go into the market value
- 11:18Then we'll go into everything. Okay, so it's 2023 stats where four and a half sacks 74 tackles, right?
- 11:24But we look at his career his career stats so far according to ESPN shout to who ESPN
- 11:31320 total tackles
- 11:34176 solo tackles five and a half sacks one force fumble three interceptions, right?
- 11:39When you look at his market value according to who spot-rack
- 11:43three years 36 million which is about 12 million a year now when we look at this all all of this
- 11:48You know and tie it up in a bow and whatnot Ernest Jones is a tackling machine
- 11:54Okay, he is a tackling machine of a linebacker. He is someone that has definitely
- 12:01You know, he does a lot on the field
- 12:04He is somebody that you know, he's not gonna have you know a thousand tackles and
- 12:1017 and a half sacks and six fours fumbles and he's not gonna have those different type of things
- 12:16But he's definitely a he's definitely a really good player
- 12:19He's a really good player and he probably wanted to be fairly compensated as such now
- 12:25The only the only problem is the Rams really haven't invested into the defense as much as what people think they are because remember
- 12:34Sean McVeigh is an offensive minded head coach. So with that being said guess what's gonna happen?
- 12:40A lot of the money is going to be invested into where the offense and it shows
- 12:45That's why they you know made the moves that they did when signing both of their guards and
- 12:51restructuring Matthew Stafford and you know paying Cooper Cup the money they did at that time and all those different types of things, right and
- 12:59So, you know 12 million a year me personally
- 13:02I wouldn't I wouldn't you know take slight to it because again on that defense who you really paint
- 13:10Now that Aaron Donald is retired who you really paint?
- 13:14Really like that's really think about it here and 12 million
- 13:17I mean 12 million is really good honestly now if his number was like 13 and 14 million is like whoa
- 13:23Whoa there brother. Whoa there brother, then it's a whole different ball game, but it's not but
- 13:30Clearly, you know, he he got into a better situation. Well, I wouldn't say a better situation
- 13:35But he got into another situation. Maybe the Titans, you know, will pay him. I don't know
- 13:39We'll just have to wait and see now on to the other trade Elijah Molden
- 13:45former
- 13:46Titans cornerback was traded from the Titans to the Chargers
- 13:51So the Titans receive a 2026 seven round pick and the Chargers receive Elijah Molden Elijah Molden
- 13:57Molden not Bolton Molden's
- 14:012023 stats were 73 total tackles one-fourth fumble and one interception
- 14:06Now I haven't really seen him on the field as much so I'm guessing he's probably like special teams or something like that
- 14:12But I mean, it's more of a of a death, you know type of trade not a you know
- 14:17Oh, it's a blockbuster trade. Oh, it's gonna train. It's gonna change everything. This is gonna be, you know
- 14:23It's gonna move mountains. No, it's it's not it's more of a deaf piece, you know going into a different situation
- 14:29Moving somebody along because he probably didn't have a roster spot
- 14:33Available on this team. So that's just you know, that's just that honestly speaking same thing with Taylor Honekey Taylor Honekey
- 14:41former
- 14:42commanders Texans I
- 14:45Don't know the other teams that he's played. I know he's played for a lot of teams. I think was the Panthers as well
- 14:49I could be wrong
- 14:51Check it for me. Somebody please. Thank you in advance was traded to the Chargers
- 14:56Chargers, of course received Taylor Honekey the Falcons received. Oh, yeah, that's right. He did play the Falcons
- 15:00Duh
- 15:01The Falcons receive a conditional sixth round pick now when we look at his stats 74 completions for 136 attempts a
- 15:0954.4%
- 15:11percent completion
- 15:13completion rate
- 15:15Can't speak because I'm so excited because why this is the 30th episode of the football junkies podcast 890 yards
- 15:22He averaged 6.5 yards of play five touchdowns for interceptions
- 15:27Taylor Honekey at this point is a backup quarterback
- 15:30The Chargers need a productive backup quarterback and Taylor Honekey is probably the best option right now
- 15:37Now Taylor Honekey is not somebody that's going to
- 15:39Wow you with his stats nor his highlights or anything crazy like that, but when you need somebody to win you a game to finish a game
- 15:46That's Taylor Honekey. Okay, that's what he is
- 15:48He is not somebody that you know is gonna go well
- 15:52Well, you actually know what no I won't say that because you know, we've seen crazier things
- 15:56but
- 15:57the Chargers realized that they need a good backup quarterback and it shows and and if we're being real here
- 16:04This is somewhat of a trend that we've been seeing the last two or three years now case in point
- 16:10That's why the league implemented that emergency
- 16:14third quarterback rule because of what happened
- 16:17I think was it like it was either last year or the year before that were basically a majority of the quarterbacks were banged up
- 16:24And so you have a lot of backup quarterbacks that were basically, you know finishing the rest of the season, right?
- 16:30And so, you know, Justin Herbert Justin Herbert, that's Lee. Hmm. That's Lee. Yeah, that's Lee
- 16:37Definitely does get banged up a lot. So they just wanted to have an insurance policy
- 16:42Just in case of anything crazy happens. So all in all pretty good, you know, pretty good plan pretty good move and whatnot now on to
- 16:49The other trade. Yes, there is so man. Let me tell you something. There was so many trades
- 16:55My phone was ringing. Well, not ringing, but it was like
- 16:59Voo
- 17:01Basically
- 17:02for like
- 17:04What half of the day? Yeah, maybe like half of the day half of the day until I almost went to sleep
- 17:09It was just going off because of all the movement trades and the conundrum that happens
- 17:14When you have cut down day and whatnot
- 17:17So, you know, people can move here there everywhere chains obscene, you know those different types of things keep on saying change
- 17:22Is seen I think that's gonna be the title this episode because why we are the football Junkies podcast up as podcast in the wild
- 17:27Now on to former commanders defensive tackle John Ridgeway. Yes, I know Ridgeway
- 17:35that's a lot try saying that three times what you can gum was traded from the
- 17:39commanders to the Saints the Saints received John Ridgeway in a seventh
- 17:43round pick for 2025 the commanders of course receive a sixth round 2025 pick
- 17:49now John Ridgeway stats 31 total tackles one pass deflection again this is more
- 17:55of a deaf piece thing you know earth shattering or anything like that thing
- 18:00too crazy to really talk about and whatnot but you know that that that's
- 18:05just what it is honestly when we look at it here the Saints definitely needed to
- 18:10bolster the defensive line a little bit more especially defensive tackle so you
- 18:15know what what what better way to do it than to make a trade for someone like
- 18:18John Ridgeway you don't have to give up a whole lot to get them it's an easier
- 18:23pick you know not a whole lot of cap space that you got it that he has to eat
- 18:27up or any of those different types of things very manageable very easy to take
- 18:31care of right and so you know that's why this move was made now on to the good
- 18:37stuff alright the good good good good good stuff of the of the podcast right
- 18:43we have to talk about brand I you yes I know I know you're probably you're
- 18:47probably having a hissy fit right now you're probably freaking out man I don't
- 18:50want to hear about him anymore I'm so tired of hearing about brain I you well
- 18:54guess what we have a little bit of a revelation okay a little bit of a
- 19:01revelation so practice happened yesterday okay and you know John Lynch and
- 19:06Kyle Shanahan were basically saying the same thing and you know that you know
- 19:10they VV that I'm so excited I got a I got a calm down that they were excited
- 19:15well not excited but they were in expectation that brand I you it was
- 19:19going to practice and you know apparently Kyle Shanahan has said that you
- 19:24know brand I you it has been cleared by teen doctors after he was complaining
- 19:28about having back and neck issues and you know they were basically in
- 19:33expectation that he was going to practice and he did not show up for
- 19:36practice so but we do have we do have to go we you know what we just have to
- 19:44go and we got to talk about this because it's a lot of it's a lot of different
- 19:47things that we have to discuss honestly at this point at this juncture of
- 19:51everything so you know a quote that came out yesterday that definitely caught my
- 19:55attention was John Lynch basically saying you know when when somebody asked
- 20:00him about brand I you he basically said and I quote at some point you've got to
- 20:05play and you know when you look at his and I'm not trying to be a therapist or
- 20:11anything or anything like that psychiatrist and whatnot but when you
- 20:15but when you just look at his stance when you look at his face when you look at
- 20:19you know his reaction his posture and whatnot you can definitely see that John
- 20:24Lynch is tired of talking about brand I you he is tired of being in the
- 20:29headlines basically the entire offseason since the end of the Superbowl he they
- 20:35have been you know always and you know in the headlines and that does get old
- 20:40you know especially when you know at first you were very stern about the
- 20:45offer that you have on the table and then you guys had a heart-to-heart and
- 20:49you were thinking okay we're going in the right direction things are going in a
- 20:52good place blah blah blah we just have one hiccup that we have to take care of
- 20:56and then everything's going to be done and you know now it's this so in some
- 21:01ways it sort of looks like a it's like a spin the face basically like the 49ers
- 21:07in their eyes feel like okay we've gone the extra mile to you know accommodate
- 21:13you with everything and it's still not good enough and you're still not here
- 21:17at some point you do have to play and that is true at some point you do have
- 21:21to play because again the team is trying to win the Superbowl right and it's all
- 21:26hands-on deck here it's all hands-on deck and you cannot you know just think
- 21:32that oh it's about you it's about you you just can't do that because guess what
- 21:37happens you're gonna cause more friction than than what you know you really are
- 21:43at this point and it's reached a point where both Kyle Shanahan well I won't
- 21:49speak for them but you can definitely tell that both Kyle Shanahan and John
- 21:54Lynch are just over it you could just tell by their posture you can just tell
- 21:58by their tone you can tell by all those different types of things they are just
- 22:03over it and they want to move forward and you know it doesn't help that you
- 22:08have Bernie Niuwicks holdout and Trent Williams's holdout but here's the thing
- 22:13that not a lot of people are talking about you're starting to see a shift in
- 22:18how people view Trent Williams compared to Bernie Niuwik let's go a little bit
- 22:23deeper in this okay now Deebo Samuel posted on Instagram I think yesterday if
- 22:29I'm not mistaken he posted an important stat I think we all really need to talk
- 22:34about and we're gonna we're gonna deep dive into okay because we got we got a
- 22:37lot of talk about in this situation I know we I know we're tired of it but we
- 22:42we still got to keep all going just got a hold on strong Steve the friends we're
- 22:45about to get them the con artists is about to get them trust and believe the
- 22:49con artists is gonna do his thing you heard it here first on the football
- 22:52Tucky's podcast Deebo posted this Trent Williams has allowed one sack in his last 983
- 22:59pass blocking steps now to some people you're probably thinking oh you know he's
- 23:03probably just doing something just for you know his man's his teammate this and
- 23:06the other no no no no no no no no no no no not this not not this guy over here
- 23:12not this guy over here you have someone like Deebo Samuel who plays a very
- 23:18pivotal role on that team especially on the offense whose voice you know
- 23:22definitely has definitely has some pool that lets me know that basically I
- 23:27think he's trying to like basically say like hey like you know make make sure
- 23:32that that y'all take care of my man's like that despite what everyone may say
- 23:37Trent Williams deserves that type of money which he does respectfully he does
- 23:41because why he is still the best left tackle in the game I don't care what
- 23:46anyone says he is the best left tackle in the game right there there were even
- 23:53stats and I said in a few episodes ago that says that once they got Trent
- 23:58Williams guess what happened they started to run the ball more on his side
- 24:03and they were doing it successfully so that shows you the influence that Trent
- 24:07William has on the team at some point we have to talk about it and I've and I
- 24:14said it before and I will continue to stand on it the 49ers should should
- 24:19value Trent Williams more than Brandon IEwick I'm sorry I understand Brandon
- 24:26IEwick wants to get paid that's perfectly fine but at some point you just have to
- 24:30let it go because now you're gonna have this headline dragging into the first
- 24:35week of football and you don't want that nobody wants that because everyone is
- 24:41trying to lock in and focus on trying to compete and to ultimately win the
- 24:45Super Bowl and you can't do that when you have somebody who is basically having
- 24:50a hissy fit on why exactly you can you know why he's trying to get paid you
- 24:56just can't not to mention guess what Trent Williams is in a whole different is
- 25:02in a whole different situation where guess what he can hold out he can hold
- 25:07out if he wants to for real for him he could retire and not lose an inch of
- 25:12sleep off it because why I made a hundred million dollars I know I'm gonna
- 25:15get a gold jacket I know I'm gonna be one of the greatest left tackles of all
- 25:19time I know that I don't got nothing else to prove nothing else to prove and so
- 25:25when you have that that is you know that that says a lot that means a whole lot
- 25:31compared to Brandon IEwick who this is his first contract where if we're being
- 25:35real here he cannot hold out he can't he cannot hold out he hasn't made the type
- 25:43of money where he can you know just sit and he can you know miss a few game
- 25:47checks and do this and do that he hasn't gotten there this is his first big payday
- 25:51right and even then when you look at the the CBA rules for fines and whatnot he
- 25:57can he's probably get fine six thousand four hundred and three dollars for missing
- 26:02first practice right cool if he misses another practice eleven thousand two
- 26:07hundred and six dollars okay cool third practice sixteen thousand nine hundred
- 26:12sixteen thousand nine nine dollars the maxi he could be fine for is forty five
- 26:18thousand seven hundred and sixty nine dollars that's not even counting any
- 26:22other fines that that the team may have as well not to mention who knows they
- 26:27might even try to you know suspend him so that a lot is riding on this and you
- 26:33know John Lynch in the front office and whatnot probably don't want to do this
- 26:38but at some point you have to make a decision it's either you're gonna keep
- 26:44dealing with with the bull because this is bull either you're gonna continue to
- 26:49deal with this or you're gonna or you're just gonna move on are you gonna give it
- 26:52to somebody else and let somebody else deal with it in their own respective
- 26:56way because you you've done all that you can do you've gone out your way to try
- 27:01to make things right you try to bring it back in all those different types of
- 27:05things and just seems like it's just not working and at some point you just have
- 27:10to let it go you do you just have to let it go because guess what I guarantee you
- 27:15before the end of the trade deadline there's gonna be another receiver that's
- 27:20gonna be available for trade there's gonna be somebody that's gonna be
- 27:23disgruntled that wants that wants out not to mention you can probably spend the
- 27:28block and probably get a Mario Cooper come on now like it's not the end of
- 27:34the world if the 49ers do not keep Brandon I you it's not it's not it really
- 27:41isn't there's a difference between somebody who basically is a player who
- 27:47was basically you know not trained but how can I say this how can I say this
- 27:53where were the words I need the words I need the words I need the words there's
- 27:57a difference between between somebody who is great because of the system and
- 28:01who's great without the system Trent Williams and Christian McCaffrey they
- 28:06were great without the system right they just got they just took things to a
- 28:10whole another level once they got you know into the 49ers situation right
- 28:14brand-newic system system system system system system system that's what it is so
- 28:21you got Ricky Pierce all you can try to roll with that see what happens and then
- 28:26just go from there compared to trying to deal with this foolishness that brand-new
- 28:30because basically doing at some point it's either gonna be a yes or no either
- 28:35yes we can't come to an agreement and I'll just say free agency after this
- 28:39season and I'll play the and I'll play under you know my rookie deal no I want
- 28:45to be traded that's it that's it and if I'm John Lynch that that's basically
- 28:50where I am at this point I'm basically gonna pull him to the side and say
- 28:54listen you have until Friday either you are going to come up and sign this deal
- 29:01or you're gonna play under this deal that you have currently or we're shipping
- 29:06your ass simple as that I'm not dealing with any of this rigamon roll okay I
- 29:13want you guys I don't want you guys I want to get paid but you're not gonna
- 29:16pay me I want this amount of money I want two extra dollars at the end of this
- 29:20deal to hell with it move on move on now moving on to other things that we have
- 29:29to talk about so Malik neighbors rookie for the Giants was given the blessing of
- 29:37the of the family to to get the number one jersey now you're probably wondering
- 29:43who did he get the jersey from he got it from a former player called Ray
- 29:48Flirty Ray Flirty so if you guys don't know who Ray Flirty is like a lot of
- 29:54people don't he played in he joined the Giants in 1929 he later became a coach
- 30:00and his credit behind the line screen pass not I said they're wrong behind the
- 30:06line screen pass and the two the two platoon substitution system he was
- 30:11inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976 and in it and in and the number one
- 30:16jersey for the Giants was the first number retired in professional football
- 30:21history so it's a lot of historical value to that so you know it definitely
- 30:27carries a lot of weight and responsibility so Malik neighbors put
- 30:31you know put out this statement after you know getting the blessing from this
- 30:35thank you to them know that happened thank you to the Flirty family for
- 30:39allowing me to wear number one for the New York Giants what else what else what
- 30:43else what else I understand the responsibility and will do everything
- 30:46in my power to honor the Flirty family and this organization I will wear the
- 30:50number with great pride can't wait for the season to start now this is my
- 30:56only problem when it comes to stuff like this is that you know when you when
- 31:02you do something like this a lot of expectation is put on your shoulders
- 31:06right and you know to be able to to get the blessing from the family that
- 31:13definitely means a lot there there are certain numbers you know with within a
- 31:18respective team that you cannot you know that that you just cannot mess with
- 31:25right like I know for instance like the Steelers you know they have they have
- 31:30jersey numbers that they're not retired yet but they're just like they're big
- 31:34no-knows right 43 92 7 12 75 who else who else who else Mike Webster's number
- 31:44Jack Lambert's Jack Ham's 26 all those different types of numbers all those
- 31:51different types of players they're big no-knows nobody touched them nobody
- 31:55deals with them and so this definitely puts a lot of pressure on your shoulders
- 32:00that means that you have to live up to those expectations both on the field and
- 32:05off the field that's just what it is that's just what it boils down to so you
- 32:10know I don't I don't know how he was able to to get this but you know who knows
- 32:16to him hopefully he lives up to those expectations I think that's just yeah I
- 32:22don't know I'm very on the fence on this different type of stuff because when
- 32:27you do this different type of stuff it can it can definitely it can definitely
- 32:32you know make or break you right that is and that's why you see a lot of former
- 32:38players who wore these type of numbers who made them famous who are like
- 32:43completely against it all together because it's like you won't be able to
- 32:47do the things that I did you won't be able to achieve the things that I did and
- 32:52if you wear this number I'm gonna hold you to even a higher standard that I
- 32:57even have for myself that's like that's like Deebo Samuel asking Jerry Rice
- 33:02can can I have your number and Jerry Rice is gonna look at him like hell no
- 33:05you can't have my number no you know you have to create your own legacy with
- 33:09your own number no so we'll just have to wait and see what happens now on to the
- 33:15final thing so Jarab Mayo head coach for the Patriots has announced that
- 33:21Jacoby Brissette will be the starting quarterback for the Patriots now this is
- 33:28somewhat of a of a no-brainer honestly simply because you know Jacoby
- 33:33Brissette is a veteran quarterback he is somebody that you know can win you
- 33:37games and whatnot he is somebody that you can learn under especially for
- 33:43someone like Drake May I think I think the team probably realized that Drake
- 33:47May it's still a little bit rough around the edges as for any rookie that that
- 33:52comes to the national football league but I think I think it will be best for
- 33:56for his development if he was to sit for maybe a year or two and then you
- 34:01probably push him out there and you know and you see well what he can do
- 34:06compared to just basically you know putting him into the fire say okay go
- 34:11and win us again go and win us the season go and see exactly what we're
- 34:14going to do right but if I'm the if I'm a Patriots fan I look at like this this
- 34:18is a long-term investment you're not going to see the fruits of your labor
- 34:22now you're going to see them later on right and this allows the team to be
- 34:27able to figure out exactly one what are they going to do moving forward if
- 34:31there's anybody else that they need to get you know during the trade line trade
- 34:35deadline and whatnot as well as figure out what they're going to do with the
- 34:39draft because next year's draft as I've said before is a defensive heavy draft
- 34:43and there's a lot of holes on both sides of that ball that they really need and
- 34:48if we're being real here if they tank another two more years I don't think it
- 34:52really would hurt them I think it would actually help them to be honest from you
- 34:56know getting a better tackle to getting another defensive lineman and whatnot
- 35:01you they could probably get all of these things and more in next year's draft I
- 35:06truly believe that so congratulations to Jacobi Brissette as I've said before in
- 35:11the early part of this episode for Drake May don't take this as a punishment take
- 35:15it as a blessing now this is where I'm going to end things right here we're
- 35:20not going to go any any farther and whatnot thank you to everybody who has

- 36:42A bag alert.
- 36:44Hopefully we can end the week with a bag alert.
- 36:49Who knows?
- 36:50But I do have to give a,
- 36:55just have to celebrate a few people for this milestone.
- 37:00I definitely have to thank the Lord for this.
- 37:03If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have been able to do it.
- 37:06If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have the strength to do this.
- 37:11If you would have told me
- 37:12that I would be doing a sports podcast
- 37:15at this point in my life, I would call you a liar.
- 37:18For those who don't know,
- 37:20I am obsessed with football lately.
- 37:24I remember Clear as Day.
- 37:27It was a few years ago.
- 37:28I think it was the same Jaff class for Bryce Young.
- 37:31I was out celebrating with my mom for her birthday.
- 37:35Lo and behold, guess what happens?
- 37:39The Panthers trade all the way up to the number one spot
- 37:43and I just lost it.
- 37:44I was letting my friends know and everything.
- 37:47I told my parents about it one night.
- 37:50They were like, you should start a podcast.
- 37:51And at first I was like, nah,
- 37:53I don't know if I really want to do that.
- 37:54I don't really want to be able to hear myself this
- 37:56and the other blah, blah, blah.
- 37:58I was just trying to make an excuse.
- 37:59And I finally took heed to what they said
- 38:04and I got a mic for Christmas.
- 38:06And at first I didn't know how to do it,
- 38:08but I just said to hell with it.
- 38:10I assembled it the best way I possibly could.
- 38:13And I just played around with it,
- 38:14looked at different YouTube videos
- 38:17and just kept on trying.
- 38:19And then once I felt like I was confident to do it, I did it.
- 38:22And to all the people out there,
- 38:25I just want to let you know that whatever you want to do,
- 38:28you can do it.
- 38:29It may take you some time.
- 38:31You may not have the following that you want.
- 38:33People may not understand where you're coming from.
- 38:36People may think that you're crazy, but guess what?
- 38:38Everybody thinks you're crazy until you're successful.
- 38:41That's the best way to put it.
- 38:44I appreciate all the people that have supported me
- 38:48publicly and behind closed doors.
- 38:50I want to think, again, I definitely want to thank God
- 38:54for this because I definitely would have never done this.
- 38:59I never would have taken that step to definitely do a podcast.
- 39:03I want to thank my mentors.
- 39:05I definitely want to thank Josh.
- 39:06I definitely want to thank my other mentor
- 39:09who I cannot think of right now.
- 39:10I know I just like Jeremy.
- 39:12That's who it is.
- 39:13Jeremy, my man, Phitty Graham.
- 39:15I want to thank him as well.
- 39:17Shout out to Moob, shout out to Shane,
- 39:18shout out to my boy, shout out to my dogs.
- 39:21Shout out to all my friends that definitely supported me
- 39:25with this.
- 39:27Shout out to family, whatnot.
- 39:28Shout out to just everybody that's just been there
- 39:32for me with this.
- 39:34If he would have told me, again, that I would have done this,
- 39:37I would have called you a liar.
- 39:38I definitely would have.
- 39:39As someone who love looking at football contracts
- 39:43and debating, I guess I finally made it into a passion.
- 39:45So as always, I hope I gave you guys the fixes you guys need.
- 39:50Just drop the gym for you guys.
- 39:52You know, not to be, you know, if I can do what you can do,
- 39:56but to just let you know, like, you know, whatever you're
- 39:58trying to pursue, you can do it.
- 40:00Whatever you can do.
- 40:02Just, you know, there's always a niche for whatever.
- 40:05There's a niche, there's a following for anything.
- 40:08You just have to tap into it, find a way that you can do it
- 40:11in your own special way, pursue it, be consistent about it.
- 40:15That's the number one thing that I would definitely say
- 40:19is being consistent has definitely helped me a lot
- 40:22and has definitely grown my podcast, you know, little by
- 40:25little, but you know, it's not always the big thing,
- 40:29the bigger picture that sometimes that we overlook.
- 40:33It's about the process that, it's about the process
- 40:38that you have to do in order to get to the bigger picture.
- 40:42Those laying down those bricks every single day,
- 40:45every single time that you do something, you're laying,
- 40:47you're putting down bricks, you're layering it,
- 40:48you're layering it, layering it, layering it.
- 40:52Just so, you know, by the time that you're done doing it,
- 40:55guess what?
- 40:56You have already created exactly what you wanted to do.
- 40:59And, you know, you can do whatever you wanna do.
- 41:03You just gotta stay consistent.
- 41:04You gotta push yourself.
- 41:06You gotta never settle, you know, for just enough,
- 41:10you always wanna push yourself to that next level
- 41:13because guess what?
- 41:14You have to be your biggest critic
- 41:16as well as your biggest cheerleader sometimes.
- 41:18Not everybody is going to understand your dream.
- 41:21Not everybody is gonna understand what you have to do
- 41:24to, you know, to achieve your dream.
- 41:26Not everybody is gonna understand the sacrifices
- 41:28that you have to make to achieve your dream.
- 41:30Not everyone is gonna do it, but guess what?
- 41:32As long as you know what you have to do
- 41:35and as long as you lock in and you focus
- 41:37and do whatever you need to do to win, do it.
- 41:40Because guess what?
- 41:41Winning has a price.
- 41:43And, you know, if you're not willing to pay that price,
- 41:45if you've never won before, if you've never achieved
- 41:47anything with it, I don't know,
- 41:48this might be the wrong thing for you to listen to,
- 41:51but to the people that wanna do something different,
- 41:53that wanna make a name for themselves, guess what?
- 41:55I did it.
- 41:57You can do it too.
- 41:58So as always, I love you guys.
- 42:00I appreciate you guys.
- 42:01I thank you guys so much for listening to this.
- 42:05I sort of wanted to end it, you know, with the 30 mark
- 42:08because it's the 30th episode,
- 42:09but I definitely just had to get this off my chest.
- 42:13I just had to let somebody know out there.
- 42:14So as always, I love you guys.
- 42:17I appreciate you guys.
- 42:18Peace and love, I'm out.
