Government Opens Today-Sparks Democrat Civil War · The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson

0:01
Speaker 1: Welcome in his verdict with Center, Ted Cruz, Ben Ferguson
0:04
Speaker 1: with you and Center, we are in a government shutdown
0:07
Speaker 1: that is ending, and the official vote on that's going
0:10
Speaker 1: to take place today. For most Americans, that means things
0:15
Speaker 1: will get back to normal pretty soon, but it's still
0:18
Speaker 1: chaos and the skies as well well.
0:20
Speaker 2: That's right. The shutdown very likely ends today. The House
0:24
Speaker 2: of Representatives is going to vote later this afternoon on
0:27
Speaker 2: the appropriations package and the continuing resolution that the Senate
0:30
Speaker 2: passed on Monday. Our podcast that we put out, we
0:35
Speaker 2: predicted that the government would open on Wednesday, and I
0:38
Speaker 2: think it's very likely to. When the House passes it,
0:41
Speaker 2: I expect the President to sign it pretty much immediately.
0:43
Speaker 2: And once it's signed, the funding has returned now and
0:47
Speaker 2: now it will take a little bit of time. I
0:48
Speaker 2: don't know how quickly paychecks will process. So for the
0:52
Speaker 2: federal employees who haven't gotten paychecks now for forty four days,
0:58
Speaker 2: they would really like their paychecks. And I'll tell you
1:00
Speaker 2: there are a lot of places like I'll give you
1:02
Speaker 2: an example, Capitol Hill. There are a lot of people
1:04
Speaker 2: on Capitol Hill staffers who have not gotten paid. Capitol
1:07
Speaker 2: Police that have not gotten paid. All of the employees,
1:10
Speaker 2: the employees who drive the subways have not gotten paid.
1:13
Speaker 2: Everyone who's an employee of the federal government, the custodians,
1:19
Speaker 2: the electricians, they have not gotten paid. And look not
1:22
Speaker 2: to mention the TSA agents and the Air traffic Control
1:25
Speaker 2: agents and the border patrol agents, and throughout the federal government.
1:30
Speaker 2: Thousands and thousands of people have not gotten paid, particularly
1:33
Speaker 2: for some of the younger ones. Like on Capitol Hill,
1:36
Speaker 2: you've got you know, young men and women that are
1:38
Speaker 2: twenty two to twenty three years old.
1:40
Speaker 3: This is their first job out of college there.
1:42
Speaker 2: You know, some of them may have some savings, but
1:44
Speaker 2: many of them don't have any savings at all. And
1:46
Speaker 2: I'll tell you they're stressed. I mean, they're very stressed.
1:49
Speaker 2: So my hope is the paychecks will come very quickly.
1:51
Speaker 2: I don't know if they will come as quickly as Thursday,
1:53
Speaker 2: or how long it will take actually the pipes to
1:57
Speaker 2: do the direct deposit, but my hope is it will
2:00
Speaker 2: will be quite quick after the government opens sometime Wednesday evening,
2:05
Speaker 2: when I anticipate the President will sign the legislation. Some
2:09
Speaker 2: of the other delays will take a little bit more time.
2:12
Speaker 2: Presumably when the government opens Wednesday, each of the cabinet
2:16
Speaker 2: agencies will send out emails and notify the non essential personnel,
2:21
Speaker 2: the personnel who'd been furloughed come back to work, and
2:24
Speaker 2: so I'm anticipating they'll come back to work Thursday morning
2:27
Speaker 2: because everyone's knowing this is coming.
2:29
Speaker 3: So I think you'll see full staff.
2:30
Speaker 4: Now.
2:30
Speaker 2: It may take a little bit of time to start
2:34
Speaker 2: government services flowing at the same speed that they normally
2:37
Speaker 2: flow at, and something like air travel in particular, my
2:41
Speaker 2: suspicion is there'll be more of a lag in air travel.
2:45
Speaker 2: I anticipate that we'll continue to see delays and cancelations
2:49
Speaker 2: for several days beyond today, because what's driving the delays
2:54
Speaker 2: and cancelations is that a lot of the air traffic
2:56
Speaker 2: controllers and TSA agents have been calling in sick. Maybe
3:00
Speaker 2: that immediately turns around on Thursday, but that depends upon
3:05
Speaker 2: the decision of fifty thousand TSA agents and fourteen thousand
3:08
Speaker 2: air traffic controllers, and the FAA is not going to
3:12
Speaker 2: return to full capacity flights until we have sufficient numbers
3:17
Speaker 2: of controllers in the air Traffic Control room to ensure
3:19
Speaker 2: that people are flying safely.
3:21
Speaker 1: That's going to be a really important part of the
3:23
Speaker 1: equation as you described it there, and it's a smart
3:25
Speaker 1: way that I think what we've really seen is true
3:27
Speaker 1: leadership from the Transportation Secretary on that issue and the
3:32
Speaker 1: Trump administration to make sure, hey, yeah there's some delays,
3:35
Speaker 1: but we're going to make sure you're safe from the skies.
3:37
Speaker 1: And that is one of the caveats to all of
3:40
Speaker 1: this is at least you know that someone's kind of
3:41
Speaker 1: looking out for your well being. And look, there's one
3:44
Speaker 1: party just playing pure politics trying to hurt people. There's
3:46
Speaker 1: another that's playing defense and trying to protect you. That
3:50
Speaker 1: is I think the takeaway from this shutdown.
3:53
Speaker 3: I think that's right.
3:54
Speaker 2: We also saw that the President called for ten thousand
3:58
Speaker 2: dollars bonuses the air traffic controllers who work during the shutdown.
4:04
Speaker 2: I think that's a great policy. I think that that
4:07
Speaker 2: makes an awful lot of sense. I would like to
4:10
Speaker 2: see the law change so that air traffic controllers get
4:13
Speaker 2: paid whether there's a shutdown or not. And as you know,
4:17
Speaker 2: I voted multiple times for Ron Johnson's legislation that would
4:20
Speaker 2: pay all essential employees so that you don't have federal
4:24
Speaker 2: workers forced to come in and work, but not to
4:27
Speaker 2: get a paycheck, because that's what drives things like the
4:29
Speaker 2: sickouts and people not showing up. And so I think
4:34
Speaker 2: it would make perfect sense to to have written as
4:37
Speaker 2: a matter of law that regardless of whether there's there's
4:41
Speaker 2: a shutdown, soldiers and sailors and airmen and marines and
4:45
Speaker 2: FBI agents and border patrol agents and ice agents and
4:48
Speaker 2: air traffic controllers and TSA agents, and everyone who is
4:51
Speaker 2: essential who is required to work, they get paid. The
4:55
Speaker 2: problem has been that Democrats have voted against that over
4:58
Speaker 2: and over and over again. I don't really see that
5:02
Speaker 2: changing because look, one of the consequences of this, we
5:06
Speaker 2: have funded three appropriations bills. We've funded the Agricultural Appropriations
5:12
Speaker 2: Bill that includes the programs for farmers and ranchers, that
5:14
Speaker 2: includes snaps, so food stamps is funded. All of that's
5:18
Speaker 2: funded for a year, so there won't be a shutdown
5:20
Speaker 2: on that going forward. We have also funded military construction
5:24
Speaker 2: and the VA so that's really important both for construction
5:28
Speaker 2: projects at military bases across the country and that's a
5:31
Speaker 2: job driver and it's important for our military defense. That's
5:34
Speaker 2: funded for a year. And the VA. Obviously caring for
5:37
Speaker 2: our veterans is critically important. That's funded for a year,
5:40
Speaker 2: So that's good news. It means the next shutdown will
5:43
Speaker 2: have a smaller impact because those three appropriations will continue.
5:47
Speaker 2: But the continuing resolution we pass expires January thirtieth, and
5:53
Speaker 2: I got to say, I will be very surprised if
5:56
Speaker 2: the Democrats don't force another shut down on January thirtieth.
6:00
Speaker 2: And so these battles have not gone away, but they're
6:04
Speaker 2: at least delayed till January thirtieth. Then we may be
6:07
Speaker 2: right back with the same problem with flight delays if
6:10
Speaker 2: the Democrats do it again.
6:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is incredible. I want to talk to
6:13
Speaker 1: you real quick about an incredible company. It is called
6:16
Speaker 1: Backyard Butchers. They are stepping in early this season to
6:20
Speaker 1: make sure American families can feed their loved ones the
6:23
Speaker 1: way tradition intended it. If you buy Backyard Butchers, what
6:27
Speaker 1: are you going to get is real ranch raised beef
6:29
Speaker 1: from real American families who still believe in doing things
6:33
Speaker 1: the right way. It's beef that's hormone free, grass fed
6:38
Speaker 1: past your rays handle with pride, not genetically modified. Because
6:43
Speaker 1: American tradition deserves better than big ag meat. And yes,
6:48
Speaker 1: your grandmother would approve. She believed food should have integrity
6:52
Speaker 1: and meat should come from ranchers, not the big conglomerates.
6:56
Speaker 1: So you can make Grandma proud this Thanksgiving and you
7:01
Speaker 1: can kick big egg out of the kitchen by getting
7:04
Speaker 1: meat rays right from Backyard Butchers right now. Backyard Butchers
7:09
Speaker 1: is offering up to thirty percent off plus a free
7:12
Speaker 1: turkey your ham with your purchase.
7:15
Speaker 5: That's pretty amazing.
7:16
Speaker 1: That's thirty percent off and your Thanksgiving turkey your ham
7:20
Speaker 1: is free on them. So get straight from the pasture
7:25
Speaker 1: right to you in your home. Go to Backyard Butchers
7:30
Speaker 1: dot com. Use the promo code verdict. That's Backyard Butchers
7:35
Speaker 1: dot com promo code verdict. I promise it will be
7:38
Speaker 1: a feast your family will remember, and it is going
7:42
Speaker 1: to taste amazing. Backyard Butchers, American tradition, American meat.
7:47
Speaker 5: Senator.
7:48
Speaker 1: I want to ask you a question that you just
7:50
Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, and that is how do we take some
7:52
Speaker 1: of this insanity off the table. You talked about there
7:56
Speaker 1: being real, you know, conversations about making some of these
7:59
Speaker 1: work where they would be essential, they would get paid
8:03
Speaker 1: in future shutdown, so they wouldn't be we wouldn't have
8:07
Speaker 1: the problems of the airport we have now, but also
8:09
Speaker 1: safety and people that are forced to show up to work.
8:12
Speaker 1: They're gonna get paid on time. If this is brought
8:16
Speaker 1: up after the shutdown. What is the main reason why
8:19
Speaker 1: Democrats are against it? Is it just pure leverage at
8:21
Speaker 1: this point?
8:22
Speaker 2: Yes, No, that they want to inflict maximum pain. They
8:26
Speaker 2: want the shutdown to be painful for the American people,
8:32
Speaker 2: and it's so they don't want that. They were furious
8:35
Speaker 2: when Trump paid the military and he had enough funds
8:38
Speaker 2: from the One Big Beautiful Bill that he could shift
8:40
Speaker 2: money around and pay the military. They wanted the military
8:42
Speaker 2: not to be paid. They're looking for maximum pain because
8:48
Speaker 2: and they've said this, they've been very candid. They say
8:50
Speaker 2: that's where they get leverage. You know, tonight, it's Tuesday night,
8:55
Speaker 2: it's Veterans Day. So I want to say to everyone
8:58
Speaker 2: who defended this nation, every veteran, and we have thank you.
9:01
Speaker 2: We are we are grateful for your your service, your sacrifice.
9:04
Speaker 3: Our liberties are here because of you. I am rutting
9:08
Speaker 3: right now. Today. I'm I'm in Miami.
9:10
Speaker 2: So this evening I spoke at the Miami Dade County
9:13
Speaker 2: Lincoln Day Dinner. Uh, it's a huge event, over one
9:17
Speaker 2: thousand people. You know, Miami Dade County has been a
9:19
Speaker 2: Democrat stronghold for decades. This last cycle, we flipped Dade
9:25
Speaker 2: County red. It is a Republican county. Republicans won multiple
9:30
Speaker 2: elections up and down the up and down the slate.
9:33
Speaker 2: There was a lot of energy there tonight. But I
9:35
Speaker 2: got to say ben I started by telling everyone. I said,
9:40
Speaker 2: last night, I was on the floor of the Senate.
9:43
Speaker 2: Bernie Sanders was screaming, Elizabeth Warren let out an angry
9:48
Speaker 2: war hoop, Corey Booker curled up in a ball Adam
9:54
Speaker 2: Schiff was pounding, and Chuck Schumer was crying. And that's
9:59
Speaker 2: not exactly right. But I said, you know what all
10:02
Speaker 2: of that says. It was a great day for America.
10:05
Speaker 2: The Democrats were consuming each other because there were eight
10:09
Speaker 2: Democrats that finally, after forty two days, showed the courage
10:14
Speaker 2: to say, enough is enough, let's reopen the government. And
10:17
Speaker 2: the Democrats turned on each other with a viciousness that
10:23
Speaker 2: is truly extraordinary. So here was a major story in
10:27
Speaker 2: the Washington Post headline, Democrats pushed for a ruthlessly pragmatic
10:32
Speaker 2: approach to counter Trump. And here's what the Post reported.
10:35
Speaker 2: The fury at eight Democratic alligned senators who voted with
10:38
Speaker 2: Republicans to end the longest ever government shutdown highlights the
10:42
Speaker 2: dramatic shift in the Democratic Party less than a year
10:45
Speaker 2: into President Trump's second term, as voters and lawmakers argue
10:49
Speaker 2: that the party needs to adopt a more ruthless tactics
10:53
Speaker 2: to counter the president and claw its way back to power.
10:56
Speaker 2: So listen, the Democrats are saying, the longest shut down
10:58
Speaker 2: in history wasn't ruthless, it needs to be worse. Post continues.
11:04
Speaker 2: The reaction into the two votes on Sunday and Monday,
11:06
Speaker 2: which provide a pathway for the government to reopen after
11:09
Speaker 2: more than forty days, was fierce. Representative Roe Kanna, Democrat
11:14
Speaker 2: from California, called for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to
11:18
Speaker 2: be replaced, suggesting he was an ineffective leader. Even though
11:22
Speaker 2: Schumer opposed the government funding measures. So Schumer voted no,
11:25
Speaker 2: but it doesn't matter. They want to throw him out anyway.
11:28
Speaker 2: House Minority Leader at Keem Jeffreys, Democrat New York, blasted
11:32
Speaker 2: the eight senators and said the House Democrats would not
11:35
Speaker 2: support a government funding bill that did not include the
11:37
Speaker 2: healthcare measures the party has demanded. So today the Democrats,
11:41
Speaker 2: presumably all or virtually all, are going to vote to
11:44
Speaker 2: keep the shut down going.
11:45
Speaker 6: Now.
11:45
Speaker 2: I fully expect House Republicans will provide the votes needed
11:48
Speaker 2: to send this to the president. But here's what the
11:53
Speaker 2: post continues. Democratic advocacy groups, politically vulnerable lawmakers, potential twenty
11:59
Speaker 2: twenty eight p residential candidates, and voters all followed suit,
12:03
Speaker 2: lambasting those in the party they saw as caving. The
12:07
Speaker 2: desire for Democrats to hold firm despite the pain inflicted
12:11
Speaker 2: by the shutdown, even though the party's prior posture was
12:16
Speaker 2: that shutdowns are self destructive, was the latest sign that
12:20
Speaker 2: the party has decided it must adopt an altogether different playbook.
12:24
Speaker 2: Given Trump's willingness to resort to unprecedented measures to consolidate
12:29
Speaker 2: and maintain powers, rather than try to uphold norms as
12:33
Speaker 2: the president shatters them, they have decided to fight Trump
12:36
Speaker 2: with tactics they previously disdained, and they have excoriated those
12:41
Speaker 2: who stood in the way, whether on redistricting or candidates
12:44
Speaker 2: with problematic pasts and here's one of my colleagues, Chris
12:49
Speaker 2: van Holland, one of the more liberal Democrats. Quote, early on,
12:53
Speaker 2: there were not enough members of Congress who recognized the
12:55
Speaker 2: magnitude of the threat Donald Trump poses to our democracy
12:58
Speaker 2: and constitution. That has changed. Van Holland said that there
13:03
Speaker 2: were a few senators and what he has dubbed the
13:05
Speaker 2: quote no business as usual caucus at the beginning of
13:08
Speaker 2: Trump's term, but it has since grown dramatically in response
13:12
Speaker 2: to energy from the party's base.
13:14
Speaker 3: Quote.
13:15
Speaker 2: The lesson is there is power and unity and in
13:18
Speaker 2: members of Congress working in partnership with the grassroots community.
13:21
Speaker 2: This is why so many people are feeling let down
13:23
Speaker 2: at this moment, because that unity was important. This is
13:27
Speaker 2: the reaction on the Democrat side. They are Schumer is
13:31
Speaker 2: besieged from all sides, and he started this shutdown again.
13:36
Speaker 5: With a civil war. Let's be clear.
13:38
Speaker 1: And that's part of what I got to ask you about,
13:40
Speaker 1: is there are Democrats now that are basically like off
13:44
Speaker 1: with his head and leadership.
13:45
Speaker 5: They want him gone. They're publicly saying, now, oh, you're saying,
13:47
Speaker 5: this is the end of him. He has done.
13:49
Speaker 1: MSNBC said it multiple times. CNN commentators said the same thing,
13:53
Speaker 1: like he's done. They got to get rid of him.
13:55
Speaker 1: His career is over. This goes back to the being
13:58
Speaker 1: held hostage by the Marxists, social in the communists of
14:00
Speaker 1: the Democratic Party. Now they didn't police him. Now they're
14:03
Speaker 1: running the party and they're anarchists. And Chuck Schumer shut
14:07
Speaker 1: down the government for the longest period in history of
14:10
Speaker 1: this country, and that wasn't good enough for them.
14:14
Speaker 2: And he still voted no on reopening it. So he
14:16
Speaker 2: shut it down for the longest in history. He voted
14:18
Speaker 2: no consistently, and yet they're still off with his head.
14:22
Speaker 2: It really is the crazies are driving the Democrat Party.
14:26
Speaker 2: And look, if you don't believe me, maybe you will
14:30
Speaker 2: believe John Fetterman. I want you to listen to this exchange.
14:33
Speaker 2: Senator John Fetterman, Democrat from Pennsylvania, was on the view
14:38
Speaker 2: and Sonny, you know, one of the left wing hosts
14:42
Speaker 2: there comes after him and comes after him hard. Listen
14:45
Speaker 2: to her unhinged question and then listen to Fetterman's response.
14:50
Speaker 7: Well.
14:50
Speaker 4: Senator Bernie Sanders said the vote was a horrific mistake.
14:54
Speaker 4: Governor Gavin Newsom called it pathetic and a surrender. Poll
14:58
Speaker 4: after poll found more Americans on both sides of the
15:01
Speaker 4: aisle blaming Republicans. Even Marjorie Taylor Green blamed the GOP.
15:06
Speaker 4: As you mentioned, Democrats have big wins last week, so
15:09
Speaker 4: you had momentum.
15:10
Speaker 3: Why give in?
15:12
Speaker 4: Now? Why bring a butter knife to a gunfight. Are
15:15
Speaker 4: you willing to gamble that the GOLP will negotiate on
15:19
Speaker 4: healthcare in good faith once the government reopens? Because if
15:22
Speaker 4: that gamble is wrong, half a million Pennsylvanians that you represent,
15:27
Speaker 4: their healthcare cost will skyrocket if you are wrong, and
15:31
Speaker 4: I believe you are wrong.
15:34
Speaker 8: Well, first of all, MTG is quite literally the last
15:39
Speaker 8: person in America that I'm going to take advice or
15:41
Speaker 8: to get their kinds.
15:42
Speaker 9: Of my leadership and values from.
15:44
Speaker 8: And now if Democrats are celebrating crazy pants like that,
15:48
Speaker 8: then that's on them. And now I don't need and
15:50
Speaker 8: I don't need a lecture. I don't need a lecture
15:52
Speaker 8: from from whether it's Bernie or the governor in California,
15:57
Speaker 8: because they are representing very deep blue blue kinds of
16:01
Speaker 8: populations and a lot of those things, a lot of
16:04
Speaker 8: those things were part of the extreme. And I'll remember
16:07
Speaker 8: what really needs to win. To win, the big win
16:11
Speaker 8: is involving my state and other states and those things.
16:15
Speaker 8: And why have we arrived here after the election a
16:18
Speaker 8: year ago. We want to forget, we got to forget.
16:21
Speaker 8: Some of the things that cost us that election are
16:24
Speaker 8: now for me. It's like, that's why I'm trying to
16:27
Speaker 8: remind people that kinds of the extreme newism, we can't
16:31
Speaker 8: return to those kind of things and realize we need
16:33
Speaker 8: to find a way forward. And I would like to
16:35
Speaker 8: rather than cite MTG, I'm going to cite one of
16:38
Speaker 8: the new governor elects saying that my election is not
16:41
Speaker 8: a green light to continue this shutdown, because I promise
16:47
Speaker 8: you this isn't a political game. It is viewed by
16:49
Speaker 8: that by many of us. But the reality is forty
16:53
Speaker 8: two million Americans now not sure where their next meal
16:55
Speaker 8: is going to come from. And because we vote like that,
16:58
Speaker 8: vote like that, or people that haven't been paid for
17:01
Speaker 8: five weeks now, and that kinds of chaos. Those workers
17:04
Speaker 8: are more than half a billion dollars, you know, from
17:07
Speaker 8: their credit union, just to pay their bills.
17:09
Speaker 1: Now you with him talking about paying their bills, and
17:12
Speaker 1: I love that from Fetterman. There they also were very
17:16
Speaker 1: quiet because I didn't think I don't think they realized
17:19
Speaker 1: he was going to come back with facts that way
17:22
Speaker 1: and describe it. I jokingly said to you before the
17:25
Speaker 1: show started, when's John Fetterman going to join the Republican
17:27
Speaker 1: Party because he's been speaking an awful lot.
17:30
Speaker 5: Of truth about the reality this shutdown.
17:32
Speaker 2: Well, look, I like John Fetterman, and I will tell
17:36
Speaker 2: you Republicans actually treated much more nicely than the Democrats do.
17:40
Speaker 2: The Democrats are mean to him, they're vicious to him.
17:42
Speaker 2: They that they really have a deep antipathy to him.
17:47
Speaker 2: And the amazing thing he votes the overwhelming majority of
17:52
Speaker 2: the time with the Democrats. You know, he's on the
17:55
Speaker 2: Commerce Committee with me. On virtually every vote he votes
17:58
Speaker 2: party line with the Democrats. On most votes on the floor,
18:01
Speaker 2: he votes party line with the Democrats. He has a
18:03
Speaker 2: few defections. So he did vote to open the government,
18:07
Speaker 2: and that's viewed as this great heresy because he didn't
18:11
Speaker 2: want to have a force a government shut down and
18:13
Speaker 2: hurt millions of Americans and continue the longest government shut
18:17
Speaker 2: down in history. And the main area that he's been
18:21
Speaker 2: willing to dissent from virtually every other Congressional Democrat is
18:25
Speaker 2: in support of Israel. And we've talked about before that
18:29
Speaker 2: there is a real and cognizable pro Hamas caucus in
18:33
Speaker 2: the Democrat Party. It rose up about ten years ago.
18:37
Speaker 2: The Democrats did nothing. They look the other way, and
18:40
Speaker 2: it's now taken over their party. And Fetterman is a
18:43
Speaker 2: massive outlier because he is genuinely pro Israel. He is
18:47
Speaker 2: vocally pro Israel, and the radicals in the Democrat Party
18:51
Speaker 2: hate him for that. And again, if you don't believe me,
18:56
Speaker 2: listen to what John Fetterman said on exactly this topic.
19:00
Speaker 7: Are not Jewish at least as far as I know,
19:03
Speaker 7: feel free to feel fear to come out here to
19:05
Speaker 7: me right now. But you have been one of the
19:08
Speaker 7: most outspoken. It's beyond Washington, it's beyond politicians. You have
19:12
Speaker 7: been one of the most outspoken people in American life
19:16
Speaker 7: on the issue of anti Semitism.
19:18
Speaker 5: Why is this issue so important to you?
19:23
Speaker 9: Ironically, I did that twenty three and me I'm ninety
19:26
Speaker 9: seven percent German and three percent Neanderthal, And it's like,
19:32
Speaker 9: maybe it's ironic that that a big german guy from
19:35
Speaker 9: Pennsylvania has been very absolutely devoted to Israel and to
19:40
Speaker 9: experience the kind of anti Semitism and in my life,
19:43
Speaker 9: I mean, you know what, you know, the Tree of Life,
19:45
Speaker 9: I mean, that's that's where you're from, too. Absolutely appalling,
19:49
Speaker 9: and my heart breaks for what the Jewish community's suffered,
19:54
Speaker 9: especially after ten to seven. I've had the honor of meeting,
19:58
Speaker 9: you know, members of the is former people that were
20:01
Speaker 9: kept underground for five hundred days. Five hundred days. I mean,
20:04
Speaker 9: those are heroes. I've met with widows their husbands were
20:08
Speaker 9: lost in the Gaza War and they have eight children,
20:12
Speaker 9: raising eight children by their own. That's a hero for
20:15
Speaker 9: all of it. So for me, it's heartbreaking, and that's
20:20
Speaker 9: been what's so difficult for me is like being devotion
20:24
Speaker 9: to Israel becoming increasingly incompatible with being a proud Democrat
20:28
Speaker 9: now too, and that's put me at odds. And the
20:31
Speaker 9: things that put me at odds have all converged at
20:34
Speaker 9: the same time, you know, the gods of war, the
20:36
Speaker 9: peace deal, and then we moved right into a shutdown,
20:39
Speaker 9: you know, like now Democrats might not be allowed to
20:43
Speaker 9: hold these views, and I'm not changing my party, and
20:46
Speaker 9: you know, run the numbers, run the numbers, you know,
20:49
Speaker 9: you would find that I'm a Democrat.
20:53
Speaker 5: You know he is a Democrat.
20:54
Speaker 1: But you've walked past his Senate office countless times. I've
20:59
Speaker 1: walked past it probably dozens of times when I'm up
21:02
Speaker 1: in DC, and he had all the hostage pictures up
21:05
Speaker 1: in his front office, which I thought was incredible.
21:09
Speaker 3: Look, he has been genuinely courageous and sincerely courageous on Israel,
21:15
Speaker 3: and it's earned the absolute ire, hatred, animosity, venom of
21:23
Speaker 3: the radical left in the Democrat Party. I mean, you
21:25
Speaker 3: heard what he just said there, that that that being
21:28
Speaker 3: pro Israel is becoming incompatible with being a proud Democrat.
21:34
Speaker 3: I mean, that's a that's a tragic statement. I wish
21:37
Speaker 3: that statement were not true, but it is the biggest
21:41
Speaker 3: reason why their radicals hate him and much of you know,
21:47
Speaker 3: when he was first elected and he came into office,
21:51
Speaker 3: he had had a stroke during the campaign and the
21:53
Speaker 3: stroke was very debilitating. When when John showed up, the
21:57
Speaker 3: stroke really limited Like when I first met him, what
22:01
Speaker 3: the stroke did is it limited his ability to process
22:05
Speaker 3: auditory input. So you would talk to him and his
22:09
Speaker 3: brain was not able to process the words he was hearing,
22:14
Speaker 3: and so he would.
22:15
Speaker 2: Carry with him an iPad that had a translator because
22:18
Speaker 2: it just this is one of the consequences that can
22:20
Speaker 2: be from a stroke is your ability to process words
22:24
Speaker 2: that you hear. Your brain just can't put them together.
22:27
Speaker 2: So you would talk and he would read it. But
22:29
Speaker 2: when he first got there, you would talk to him
22:32
Speaker 2: and he would literally he was not able to understand
22:34
Speaker 2: what you were saying. And I mean it hurt your heart.
22:36
Speaker 2: I mean, this is a is a very bright man.
22:38
Speaker 2: The man's a Harvard graduate, but he had a medical
22:41
Speaker 2: issue that he had real consequences. Early on, the Democrats
22:47
Speaker 2: all circled around him and said, you know, he's perfectly capable.
22:51
Speaker 2: There are no issues whatsoever. Because they assumed he would
22:54
Speaker 2: be a left wing Democrat, that's what they expected of him.
22:57
Speaker 2: That was not a crazy expectation going in. And then
23:01
Speaker 2: when he started standing up, particularly on Israel, standing up
23:05
Speaker 2: and defying the Prohamas Caucus, you started seeing the Democrats
23:10
Speaker 2: leaking and planning stories and really attacking his mental capability.
23:15
Speaker 2: And the irony is, look you heard in those exchanges.
23:18
Speaker 2: He's now able to have a conversation, he still is
23:22
Speaker 2: a little halting in his communication. I think that's some
23:25
Speaker 2: of the aftermath of the stroke, But the difference is
23:27
Speaker 2: night and day. You can now have a conversation and
23:30
Speaker 2: he can hear you in a way that when he
23:31
Speaker 2: showed up in the Senate he was not able to.
23:34
Speaker 2: And yet Democrats are running to reporters to plant negative
23:39
Speaker 2: stories attacking him. Many of his colleagues want to drive
23:44
Speaker 2: him out of the party, and at least on the
23:47
Speaker 2: Republican side, I like John and I think consistently all
23:51
Speaker 2: the Republicans are just trying to be nice to him.
23:53
Speaker 2: By the way, they did the same thing to Joe Manchin,
23:56
Speaker 2: they did the same thing to Kirsten Cinemon. They succeeded
23:58
Speaker 2: in driving both of them out of the Park Party
24:00
Speaker 2: because they want no descent. You must obey and follow
24:05
Speaker 2: orders or they'll do everything they can to drive you out.
24:09
Speaker 2: And to be honest, both Cinema and Mansion, I think
24:11
Speaker 2: Republicans were much nicer to than Democrats were, and the
24:15
Speaker 2: consequence was they were both driven out of the party.
24:18
Speaker 1: For the last several weeks, you've heard me talk with
24:20
Speaker 1: Joshua Rhard at Berna and tell stories about people just
24:24
Speaker 1: like you and I and how they've used their burn
24:26
Speaker 1: a launcher protect themselves and their families. Now, if you
24:29
Speaker 1: don't know what a burna is, it is a handheld
24:31
Speaker 1: pistol that fires both kinetic rounds and chemical irritants to
24:36
Speaker 1: separate you from an attacker.
24:37
Speaker 5: And it's truly amazing. Now Josh is back today.
24:40
Speaker 1: To share a story about a store owner and how
24:43
Speaker 1: a Berner launcher could have really come in handy.
24:45
Speaker 6: Yes, so in Seattle, the owner of local small business
24:48
Speaker 6: decided to have a sidewalk sale to engage more directly
24:51
Speaker 6: with her community. Well, today was going great when a
24:53
Speaker 6: male walking down the middle of the street could be
24:56
Speaker 6: seen yelling, streaming, and huting passing cars. This man was
25:00
Speaker 6: clearly suffering from an acute mental episode when he then
25:03
Speaker 6: approached the store owner began threatening her. After several failed
25:07
Speaker 6: attempts at de escalating the situation, the woman ultimately tried
25:10
Speaker 6: to go back into the store to try to get
25:12
Speaker 6: to safety, and it was then that the deranged man
25:15
Speaker 6: yelled that he was going to gouge out her eyes
25:17
Speaker 6: and then grabbed her, slammed her to the ground, and
25:19
Speaker 6: began choking her. It was only due to several good
25:22
Speaker 6: Samaritans that jumped in to pull him off of her
25:26
Speaker 6: that probably saved her life.
25:28
Speaker 5: You know, this is a growing trend.
25:30
Speaker 1: Unfortunately, mental health is a serious issue, and in areas
25:33
Speaker 1: with larger homeless populations, these individuals affected by this can
25:38
Speaker 1: really get violent.
25:39
Speaker 5: Could BERNA still be effective in this case?
25:42
Speaker 6: Absolutely? You know, mental health is striking populations all over America,
25:46
Speaker 6: and those with mental health issues that also have substance
25:49
Speaker 6: of abuse issues are over eleven hundred times more likely
25:53
Speaker 6: to commit violent crime. And the problem is you never
25:56
Speaker 6: know when that may happen. Berna, especially used with our
25:59
Speaker 6: chemical agent project, will incapacitate even those suffering from those
26:03
Speaker 6: acute mental episodes. So Burne is a great tool to
26:06
Speaker 6: use when you absolutely have no idea that you may
26:08
Speaker 6: need it.
26:09
Speaker 1: If you want to find out more about BERNA can
26:11
Speaker 1: help you or your family members. It's a great gift
26:14
Speaker 1: for the holidays coming for someone you want to help protect.
26:17
Speaker 1: Go to burner by RNA dot com. That's Burna b
26:21
Speaker 1: y RNA dot com Burna dot Com.
26:25
Speaker 5: Final question on this as we move forward, what does
26:29
Speaker 5: your gut say about another government shut down early next year?
26:33
Speaker 2: I think it is very likely when the CR expires
26:36
Speaker 2: on January thirtieth. I don't see a fundamental dynamic that
26:41
Speaker 2: changes now maybe maybe maybe maybe the eight Democrats who
26:46
Speaker 2: cut the deal. Now, maybe on January thirtieth, they cut
26:49
Speaker 2: the deal at the front end. That's possible, I can
26:53
Speaker 2: tell you. As we were sitting there on Monday, and
26:57
Speaker 2: they had cast the initial vote on Sunday and were
27:00
Speaker 2: getting savaged on the Republican side, we felt a real
27:05
Speaker 2: urgency a vote now now now, because look, we were
27:10
Speaker 2: very afraid one of them would flip.
27:12
Speaker 3: I mean, I mean it.
27:14
Speaker 2: There is typically a limit to how much abuse an
27:16
Speaker 2: elected official can take, and and and the left wing
27:19
Speaker 2: base was savaging those eight. Now we actually had a
27:24
Speaker 2: delay because John Kennedy, who's a good friend of mine,
27:28
Speaker 2: was put in fact, he's been on the podcast just
27:31
Speaker 2: a week ago. Yeah, John was pressing for a resolution
27:36
Speaker 2: that says, if there's a shutdown, senators will not be
27:40
Speaker 2: paid so long as federal workers are not being paid.
27:44
Speaker 2: And as you know, I voluntarily did that, so I
27:47
Speaker 2: have not taken a paycheck for the entire length of
27:50
Speaker 2: this this shutdown. I sent a written letter to the
27:53
Speaker 2: Secretary of the Senate saying, hold my paycheck. I'm not
27:56
Speaker 2: going to be paid as long as their federal workers
27:57
Speaker 2: who are not being paid. So so whenever the at
28:01
Speaker 2: some point, I'll get my paychecks from the last forty
28:03
Speaker 2: days in the next presumably few days, whenever the other
28:06
Speaker 2: federal workers do. I don't know when that will come.
28:09
Speaker 2: But many, and I think most of the Democrats did
28:13
Speaker 2: not do that. They continued taking their paychecks throughout, which
28:17
Speaker 2: was an incredible hypocrisy. And so Kennedy was pushing really
28:21
Speaker 2: hard for saying, look, no senator should get paid while
28:25
Speaker 2: there's a shutdown. He wanted a vote when we were
28:29
Speaker 2: taking this up and voting on it. He wanted a
28:33
Speaker 2: separate amendment vote on that. And it was a challenge
28:37
Speaker 2: because the Democrats were refusing to give that amendment vote
28:41
Speaker 2: and saying, if you get that amendment vote, then we
28:43
Speaker 2: want a bunch of amendment votes, And so everything was paralyzed,
28:46
Speaker 2: and it could have delayed. Instead of the Senate voting
28:50
Speaker 2: Monday night, it could have delayed till Tuesday or Wednesday
28:53
Speaker 2: or Thursday, And I and many others were really concerned
28:57
Speaker 2: if it delayed till Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday for
28:59
Speaker 2: the Senate to vote, one or more of the eight
29:02
Speaker 2: Democrats would get cold feet and flip. And so actually
29:05
Speaker 2: the way it got resolved as I went to John
29:08
Speaker 2: Kennedy's office, and he and I are good friends, and
29:10
Speaker 2: I said, look, can we work something out? Because he
29:12
Speaker 2: was really mad, he was frustrated that he couldn't get
29:15
Speaker 2: his vote. I said, can we work something out that
29:18
Speaker 2: lets us vote to reopen the government and get you
29:22
Speaker 2: what you want? And so we cut an agreement that
29:26
Speaker 2: next week the Rules Committee on which I serve, is
29:29
Speaker 2: going to vote on John Kennedy's resolution, and I think
29:33
Speaker 2: we're going to vote it out of the Rules Committee
29:34
Speaker 2: and put it on the Senate floor and we'll vote
29:36
Speaker 2: on the Senate floor right after Thanksgiving on Kennedy's provision.
29:40
Speaker 2: And I asked him, look, would you be willing to
29:41
Speaker 2: accept a vote on this that's separate, that doesn't delay
29:46
Speaker 2: the overall funding bill? Because if we delay it, if
29:50
Speaker 2: one of these Democrats get cold feet, we could have
29:52
Speaker 2: another week, two, three, four weeks of shutdown and none
29:55
Speaker 2: of us want that. And Kennedy he was angry, but
29:59
Speaker 2: he said yes, he he would agree to that. I'm
30:01
Speaker 2: really glad John did that. That was the right thing.
30:03
Speaker 2: But he's fighting for something he really believes in. So
30:06
Speaker 2: I was able to go to leadership and say, look,
30:09
Speaker 2: you guys need to commit to have the vote in
30:11
Speaker 2: the rules committee and the vote on the floor, and
30:13
Speaker 2: leadership did make that commitment, and that was the pivotal
30:17
Speaker 2: piece that got us to a vote Monday night to
30:20
Speaker 2: reopen the government.
30:21
Speaker 1: Thirty days from now. What do you think the fallout's
30:24
Speaker 1: going to actually be? I think people are so fast
30:26
Speaker 1: to get back to normal. The holidays are coming. I
30:30
Speaker 1: think that's going to be something where peopter just like,
30:31
Speaker 1: all right, everything's fine, my normal chaos as long as
30:34
Speaker 1: we don't have chaos and the sky's outside of the
30:36
Speaker 1: normal chaos with it when it comes to Thanksgiving or
30:39
Speaker 1: Christmas travel, I'm good. We're pretty selfish as a people. Now,
30:43
Speaker 1: let's just be honest about it. So it's a lot
30:45
Speaker 1: of it is Hey, if it doesn't affect me, is
30:47
Speaker 1: it really happening? This happens now? And is there going
30:51
Speaker 1: to be fallout or accountability on either side?
30:53
Speaker 3: Yeah?
30:54
Speaker 2: Look, people will remember what impacted themselves and their families.
30:57
Speaker 2: So if your food stamps got you'll remember that that
31:02
Speaker 2: will have made a real difference. If your paycheck got delayed,
31:05
Speaker 2: that will impact you. I was having a conversation with
31:07
Speaker 2: the Capitol Police officer yesterday, and this was a Capitol
31:10
Speaker 2: Police officer who was a veteran, had been around a while,
31:12
Speaker 2: and he was talking about how they were giving grief
31:16
Speaker 2: to like some of the rookies who were brand new.
31:17
Speaker 2: He said, there was a class straight out of the
31:19
Speaker 2: academy who started like two days before the shutdown, and
31:22
Speaker 2: you know, these are all really you know, young men
31:25
Speaker 2: and women twenty two to twenty three years old and
31:28
Speaker 2: this is like their first job and suddenly they're not
31:31
Speaker 2: getting paid. And he did say that the veteran Capitol
31:36
Speaker 2: Police officers were basically giving grief to the young rookies
31:41
Speaker 2: and being like, oh, you're new to this game, and
31:44
Speaker 2: you know, shutdowns are part of working for the federal government.
31:47
Speaker 2: But you know a lot of these young guys don't
31:49
Speaker 2: have much savings, so they were a little bit shell
31:51
Speaker 2: shocked from it. Those folks will remember, but most Americans,
31:57
Speaker 2: if it didn't impact you, The biggest way that a
32:00
Speaker 2: lot of Americans were impacted was flight delays and flight
32:04
Speaker 2: delays and cancelations. The people who had their trip to
32:09
Speaker 2: visit their mom canceled the trip to go to a
32:11
Speaker 2: funeral in the family, the trip to go on family vacation,
32:14
Speaker 2: the trip to go on a work trip.
32:16
Speaker 3: People will be annoyed at that.
32:18
Speaker 2: Now, look, it's November, we'll move into Thanksgiving. I think
32:22
Speaker 2: by Thanksgiving the air traffic we'll be back to normal,
32:25
Speaker 2: so it won't be an additional burden. And then we'll
32:28
Speaker 2: get into Christmas and the holidays, and do I think
32:32
Speaker 2: by December one the shutdown is going to be front
32:35
Speaker 2: and center in anyone's mind. Not really, but then we're
32:39
Speaker 2: going to get to January thirtieth. And I mentioned in
32:41
Speaker 2: the last podcast it was really important that we had
32:45
Speaker 2: the continuing Resolution. There was a big push to get
32:48
Speaker 2: it to expire on December twenty first. Yeah, that was
32:52
Speaker 2: a terrible idea because often if government funding expires right
32:55
Speaker 2: before Christmas. Look, obviously, every member of Congress wants to
32:59
Speaker 2: get home to be with their fans only for Christmas.
33:01
Speaker 2: That's natural. You know, most of us have kids. You
33:03
Speaker 2: want to be with your kids for Christmas. That leads
33:06
Speaker 2: frequently to really bad deals. There's an old phrase that
33:10
Speaker 2: jet fumes get in the air, that people are really
33:12
Speaker 2: anxious to get out of town, so they'll agree to
33:14
Speaker 2: horrible deals. So the conservatives, I was pressing hard, do
33:18
Speaker 2: not end it right before Christmas. We need to go
33:20
Speaker 2: into January so we don't have that pressure pushing people
33:24
Speaker 2: to make a bad deal. And thankfully, and I'll give
33:27
Speaker 2: John Thune credit, John Thune leaned in and said, we're
33:29
Speaker 2: going till January thirtieth. That's what's in there. We will
33:33
Speaker 2: have this same fight at the end of January. But
33:37
Speaker 2: that at least gives us some more time and some
33:41
Speaker 2: more time to deal with it.
33:43
Speaker 1: One of the things that's coming out of this shutdown
33:45
Speaker 1: that I do think is interesting and I did not
33:46
Speaker 1: see this coming. Maybe you did, but this was not
33:49
Speaker 1: on my bingo card for government shutdown conversations after the fact,
33:55
Speaker 1: and that is the outrageous sub cities of Obamacare. It
34:02
Speaker 1: was called the Affordable Care Act. We now know that
34:06
Speaker 1: it's anything but affordable. Even yesterday on TV on Navarro said, well,
34:12
Speaker 1: you know, we know that premiums have gone up one
34:15
Speaker 1: two hundred, three hundred percent, and that's why we need
34:18
Speaker 1: the government open, as she described it, and why we
34:20
Speaker 1: need to fix this. She just said the problem and
34:23
Speaker 1: I'm like, you guys told us this was going to
34:25
Speaker 1: be affordable it is not affordable. Not only that, I
34:29
Speaker 1: think at some point it's pretty clear it's not sustainable.
34:32
Speaker 1: And so this is like for me, so security two
34:35
Speaker 1: point zero issue, right, sustainability and solvency. This is now,
34:40
Speaker 1: I think, given a gift to fiscal responsibility that people
34:44
Speaker 1: are talking about just how crazy these substies are. We're
34:47
Speaker 1: talking about trillions we've spent.
34:49
Speaker 3: Yeah.
34:49
Speaker 2: Look, you go back to when I fillibustered on the
34:53
Speaker 2: Senate floor against Obamacare, and I spoke for twenty one
34:55
Speaker 2: hours straight. And you know, you may recall red red
35:00
Speaker 2: green eggs and ham, which a lot of people forget
35:03
Speaker 2: why I read green eggs and Ham. The reason is
35:05
Speaker 2: at the time, my daughters were three and five years old,
35:09
Speaker 2: and whenever I was at home, I would read them
35:11
Speaker 2: bedtime stories, and so it was their bedtime. I was
35:13
Speaker 2: talking for twenty one hours. It was their bedtime. So
35:15
Speaker 2: we called home and told them turn on the TV
35:17
Speaker 2: and I read them green eggs and Ham on TV.
35:19
Speaker 2: And my favorite picture you've seen it, Ben, Oh, yeah,
35:22
Speaker 2: I love that hangs in my Senate office in DC
35:26
Speaker 2: is the two girls. They're both in matching pajamas, which
35:29
Speaker 2: at three and five they could do at fifteen and
35:31
Speaker 2: seventeen were well past the stage of matching pajamas, but
35:35
Speaker 2: that they're in matching pajamas. And Catherine, the three year old,
35:38
Speaker 2: she has her hand on the TV and she's looking
35:40
Speaker 2: at it in wonderment as her daddy's reading her Doctor
35:43
Speaker 2: Seuss on television. And Caroline, and you know my girls
35:47
Speaker 2: really well. Caroline is the eldest that I love her,
35:50
Speaker 2: but she she's a cynical kid. Not not much her
35:53
Speaker 2: dad does impresses her. And in that picture she that
35:57
Speaker 2: was very accurate, by the way, very accurate. Oh no, no,
36:02
Speaker 2: it's there are a few things better for humility than
36:05
Speaker 2: being a parent, because your kids, really, if you're starting
36:09
Speaker 2: to get a big head, your kids are really good
36:11
Speaker 2: for bringing you down to earth. But this picture Caroline
36:15
Speaker 2: at age five, she's cracking up, laughing, and it's why
36:19
Speaker 2: I love this picture because there's just joy in her face.
36:22
Speaker 2: And when I came home after the filibuster at age five,
36:26
Speaker 2: she had her arms crossed and she said, okay, Dad,
36:28
Speaker 2: that was cool, And it was like, yes, finally those trees.
36:33
Speaker 5: It took it.
36:33
Speaker 1: It took me talking for twenty one hours to get
36:36
Speaker 1: it cool.
36:37
Speaker 3: Yeah.
36:37
Speaker 2: So in that filibuster, I laid out exactly what has
36:42
Speaker 2: happened that premiums are going to skyrocket. Remember Barack Obama
36:45
Speaker 2: promised that Obamacare would cut the average famili's premiums by
36:49
Speaker 2: twenty five hundred dollars. It has massively increased the average
36:53
Speaker 2: families premiums instead. And and there's a reason for that.
36:57
Speaker 2: What Obamacare did is drastically reduce the choices people had
37:01
Speaker 2: and forced people into more expensive plans. It basically outlawed
37:07
Speaker 2: less expensive plans. And economics one oh one supply and demand.
37:14
Speaker 2: When you shrink supply and you also mandate demand, which
37:18
Speaker 2: Obamacare initially had the individual mandate that forced people to buy.
37:22
Speaker 2: The combination of that drives prices through the roof. Now,
37:26
Speaker 2: we repealed the individual mandate, and I was the one
37:28
Speaker 2: who led the fight to do that. So we successfully
37:31
Speaker 2: repealed the individual madnate. Under the original Obamacare, if you
37:36
Speaker 2: lacked the income to be able to afford healthcare, the
37:39
Speaker 2: consequence of that is the IRS would find you, So
37:42
Speaker 2: you'd have an insult to injury. You didn't have the
37:44
Speaker 2: money to pay for health insurance and then the IRS
37:46
Speaker 2: came and find you. It was idiotic policy. Thankfully, we
37:51
Speaker 2: repealed that and that was in twenty seventeen, a fight
37:54
Speaker 2: I led in won. So that aspect of Obamacare has
37:57
Speaker 2: gone away, but the limiting the choices has not. And
38:02
Speaker 2: what Obamacare does, it's basically built on an invisible cross
38:06
Speaker 2: subsidy where listen, if you're young and healthy, it's not
38:11
Speaker 2: very expensive to ensure you, because insurance is all about
38:14
Speaker 2: actuary risk and young healthy people. You know, some young
38:18
Speaker 2: healthy people get cancer getting a nasty car accident, but
38:21
Speaker 2: it's statistically speaking, quite unlikely, and so it's pretty cheap
38:26
Speaker 2: to ensure a young healthy person. If you're older and sicker,
38:30
Speaker 2: it's more expensive to ensure you. And what Obamacare did
38:34
Speaker 2: is it mandated that essentially the young healthy people pay
38:38
Speaker 2: higher premiums to subsidize the older, sicker people. Now, one
38:42
Speaker 2: of the weird things that's backwards about this, if you
38:46
Speaker 2: look during the course of a person's life, typically they
38:49
Speaker 2: earn more and accumulate more in savings as they get older.
38:53
Speaker 2: So it's literally reverse robinhood. They were robbing from the
38:55
Speaker 2: poor to give to the rich, is what Obamacare did.
38:58
Speaker 2: And it was based and when you look at the
39:00
Speaker 2: architects of Obamacare they thought young people were too stupid
39:05
Speaker 2: to know that their premiums were being doubled and tripled
39:08
Speaker 2: and being used to subsidize older and sicker people. I
39:12
Speaker 2: think the whole thing is cynical as hell, And so
39:14
Speaker 2: what I've argued for for thirteen years is let people
39:18
Speaker 2: buy the insurance they want, Let young, healthy people buy
39:22
Speaker 2: low cost, inexpensive insurance. And then for people that are really,
39:26
Speaker 2: really old or really sick, we can subsidize them directly,
39:30
Speaker 2: but don't do it through an individual invisible cross subsidy,
39:34
Speaker 2: where you're basically screwing people who aren't aware they're getting screwed.
39:38
Speaker 2: All of which is to say, why are in insurance
39:41
Speaker 2: premium skyrocketing because Obamacare? That was the predictable outcome of Obamacare.
39:46
Speaker 2: It wasn't just predictable, it was predicted. And I stood
39:49
Speaker 2: on the Senate floor and predicted it thirteen years ago.
39:52
Speaker 1: You know, it's interesting if you look at the takeaway here,
39:55
Speaker 1: it took forty days, longest shut down in government history,
40:00
Speaker 1: and it seems that Democrats are just saying, we'll kick
40:02
Speaker 1: the can down the road a couple months, we may
40:05
Speaker 1: have another government shut down.
40:06
Speaker 5: We're gonna keep holding the American people hostage.
40:09
Speaker 1: We're not learning from any of this, and this is
40:12
Speaker 1: a scary way that the government's being run right now.
40:14
Speaker 1: But this is what happens when you have the extreme
40:18
Speaker 1: left who is hell bent on hurting Americans to get
40:22
Speaker 1: their way when they don't win an election. And that's
40:25
Speaker 1: what this is really all about for them. We'll keep
40:27
Speaker 1: you updated on all of it.
40:28
Speaker 2: Rage is not Rage is not an agenda. Anger is
40:31
Speaker 2: not an agenda. Hate is not an agenda. And unfortunately
40:35
Speaker 2: on the far left in the Democrat Party, that is
40:38
Speaker 2: what they are for is rage, hate and anger, and
40:42
Speaker 2: we're gonna see more chaos. We're gonna see more more
40:46
Speaker 2: holding the American people hostage because it's a direct outgrowth
40:50
Speaker 2: of that rage and hate and anger.
40:52
