- 0:40Welcome back with a blunt penknife.
- 0:42The Doctor Who commentary podcast, Dylan.
- 0:47Hello, I'm Sofia. Thank goodness.
- 0:51The shelter me asking to come around and play with your dolls.
- 0:54Like I'm very pleased. You come back for episode 3.
- 0:56Anytime I'm ready for my Day of Reckoning.
- 1:01It would be honestly. So here we are episode 3 of the
- 1:06Dalek invasion of Earth. I'm going to A bit unfair to
- 1:10you. Now go on, but something I do
- 1:12every now and again, just see that people have, in fact, been
- 1:14paying attention. And if you could care to tell
- 1:17the viewers, what has occurred in the dark makeup Asian of
- 1:20Earth to date often? Well, the Daleks have invaded
- 1:24the earth and the doctor & Co landed Susan.
- 1:29Unfortunately made a bunch of stuff collapse on the Tardis.
- 1:33They all got it is unfortunately there.
- 1:35Yeah she is. Unfortunately, there Susan and
- 1:37Barbara offer some Rebels. The doctor has narrowly escaped
- 1:42being a robo man and I believe is I know the doctors now with
- 1:46Susan and David Campbell or David Cameron as he's known in
- 1:49the book and and Ians Ian. Stuck in a flying saucer, I
- 1:56think, I think he's off to bedfordshire and Barbara and
- 1:59Jenny are about to embark on an adventure with Dort, Dortmund,
- 2:05dudman Dortmund, whoever wears that.
- 2:08But yeah. So they've all been So and it
- 2:10things are heating up. But the Daleks killing people,
- 2:14I'll just say, well, that was very adeptly done.
- 2:17Thank you very much. It was my pleasure.
- 2:21I'm gonna say, controversy, I think this might be my favorite
- 2:23episode. This is the episode with all the
- 2:25location filming of them dashing about London, isn't it?
- 2:28Yes, it is. Yeah, so this isn't this is
- 2:30absolute belter and I think you can throw around the word iconic
- 2:35quite a bit. But yeah, it's really beautiful.
- 2:39Stuff. And it's Richard Martin at its
- 2:41best because he hasn't got a bunch of cameras in the studio
- 2:45today, use. This is very geeky.
- 2:47I don't know, they ask this question.
- 2:49Do they use the same camera men in the studio as they do on
- 2:52location? Like is it other people doing
- 2:55the work? I mean, I know that's what I'm
- 2:58saying. Yeah I mean I know that
- 3:01sometimes when they you'll watch like a DVD extra or something,
- 3:04they'll refer to the film camera man.
- 3:06So I'm assuming it's a different person with a different type of
- 3:09Suppose, it's a different technical, expertise to a
- 3:11certain extent so maybe you can do both.
- 3:15But I suspect something like the BBC would have the very
- 3:19convoluted enough, especially in those days to go know you either
- 3:22a videotape cameramen, or you're a film camera.
- 3:26I think, in the same breath, they know that these are the
- 3:28money shots. You know, we'll toss all the
- 3:32budget in that direction. Of course, speak you would know
- 3:36anything about that. So I'm not Oh, I've been tossed
- 3:41in every different direction. You could possibly think of them
- 3:43over. I have you really well, yes, of
- 3:46camera then. All right.
- 3:50But for now, we should probably head into episode 3.
- 3:53If you are ready? Yeah.
- 3:55Should I count us in? Yes, please.
- 3:57Okay, three, two, one, go Honestly, the first time I've
- 4:03ever spoken to you, I feel like I've known you for years.
- 4:05It's Kyle, this is great. It's a beginning of a beautiful
- 4:08friendship fearlessness to, who is the great unifier, you know,
- 4:11I'm starting to think this it is.
- 4:13It is, I've got a few mates that I have met exclusively through
- 4:16podcasting. Just so the, on the time, Ash
- 4:19boys, who I know quite well now and there's another podcast
- 4:22called I hate Doctor Who Richie Morgan, who runs that and we met
- 4:26through podcasting I met in real life and remain very Pally.
- 4:31I mean to make Is very personal. I met my partner Force.
- 4:34Yeah. In fact, you can chart the
- 4:36history of our relationship from our first meeting on our very
- 4:39first commentary together to the last one.
- 4:41I brought that's, that's a beautiful thing to have those
- 4:44things as long as it doesn't have Charter decline at some
- 4:47point your price ten years after his moved out.
- 4:50I be crying away. Listening to those.
- 4:52Yeah, I'm sure you will live happily ever after.
- 4:56Oh, thank you very much. So I do hope that who.
- 5:00So poor William Hartnell is out for this.
- 5:02Sewed. Yeah what you know why is out it
- 5:05got tossed on a ramp or something.
- 5:06You did somebody carried him down a ramp and dropped him.
- 5:09And he was briefly paralyzed and he continued with the recording
- 5:14of this episode of the last episode and then that's have a
- 5:16few weeks off, but I never buy that.
- 5:19I just think he was probably out on the Lash to be honest.
- 5:21I think he had too much champagne from that fortnum and
- 5:25Mason's handcuffed but yeah, there for lunch time.
- 5:28I tell you what I mean I'm all for a fortnum and Mason's a but
- 5:31if I A glass of champagne at lunch.
- 5:34You're not getting me back on. Even have one drink tonight.
- 5:37Honestly, I see. Now, this is another sequence.
- 5:43What's really interesting is again, when the action goes on
- 5:45location in this, it's fluid and it's stylish.
- 5:50And yet this attack on the saucer and a minute, there's a
- 5:53lot of over the dark, you know, over the Darlings, heads shots
- 5:56and things like that. And I've been sort of Milling
- 5:58around and bumping into each other and That's a very fetching
- 6:03balaclava. That's Jenny's got on.
- 6:05There's no, he's a reason. She's wearing that.
- 6:08It's uh, I think I hadn't been died or something at this point,
- 6:13something like that. I say it was not sure you choose
- 6:18to wear it and then I'm going to attack a dollar Banks.
- 6:22Also I'm going to put my best balaclava Rob.
- 6:24So that wasn't it hard. All their going down?
- 6:25The ramp I did. I don't know whether it was him
- 6:29or whether that was a retake and that was the scene where it was
- 6:31carried. Drops.
- 6:32And then they were like, well just he's unconscious letter
- 6:35drag him quickly down their health and safety makes this
- 6:37Batman. Yeah, this a minute ago?
- 6:42Yeah, we just saw Tyler stabbed, one of the Rover event today.
- 6:48Yeah, it's pretty and he's one of the heroes.
- 6:51Yeah, yeah. It's like it's known nonsense.
- 6:55Is it? It's like all these people have
- 6:57done horrible things to survive. I mean, it's not quite the
- 6:59walking dead, but who's better? It certainly varying in that
- 7:04direction of like, if you survived this long, you must of
- 7:07you've been through some shit. And you've done some dark
- 7:09things. I think they're sort of the
- 7:11sequence that really gets me. I don't again, I don't think
- 7:13it's for excuted and maybe it's not well, acted.
- 7:17But on the page and it's the fellow that Ian ends up down the
- 7:21mines with when he has to kill his brother.
- 7:24Yes, enter over man. And it's a really long sequence
- 7:28where was trying to strangle the other the others like stabs him
- 7:31to death. The storm like this is pretty
- 7:34Grim for doctor and even now I like just this guy going down
- 7:39into the sewer. Can't quite get down there gets
- 7:41exterminated although he does dice just before the
- 7:45extermination effect actually starts.
- 7:47But you know, we'll forget that there's a moment coming up where
- 7:50the guy that they were locked in the doctor and Ian were locked
- 7:52in a cell with its suddenly a robo man and Ian has to do away
- 7:56with him. It's like it's Relentless just
- 7:58like everybody's having a shit time and they're like, Early on
- 8:02the run as well. Yeah, I would serious.
- 8:05Like a feeling of Oppression, I think for our.
- 8:08Yeah, this is I know there's quite an unpopular opinion that
- 8:12I wouldn't like, I would love to see this remade in modern
- 8:15Doctor, Who like armor. I'm not so unbearably doctors a
- 8:19sacred text and I would, if somebody said we're going to
- 8:23remake some old Doctor Who stories with the current team.
- 8:25I'll be like, this one must be up there.
- 8:28One thing is, they can remake Jubilee as Dalek and if they do
- 8:32A human nature as human nature. Yeah.
- 8:35Why can't they do classical? Tell you stories?
- 8:38Yeah, I mean I'm also someone, but it wouldn't be opposed to a
- 8:42page one Doctor Who reboot, but I don't, that's a very unpopular
- 8:45opinion. Just start again.
- 8:49What do you mean by that? Explain that, I mean an episode
- 8:53of series of Doctor Who fan issues and it's the end and then
- 8:55there's a new version of Doctor Who but it's just like, it's the
- 8:59foot a first doctor whoever that is And that it's the slates
- 9:03wiped completely clean. So you can remake on, you can
- 9:07remake old stories, or you can do new things with old Concepts.
- 9:11But there's no can and there's no history and you just you just
- 9:14start again with a character called the doctor who appears on
- 9:18Earth or Evers never met. The Daleks has never met Master,
- 9:21just start it again, it's pretty enticing, you know, but also I
- 9:26always thought that and someone will do it one day.
- 9:29It's only not connected until five seasons in somebody goes.
- 9:34Absolutely, this was the alternative Universe dr.
- 9:39David Tennant, shows up because he has to show up every few
- 9:42years. Obviously, the vein would
- 9:45explode, like, literally explode.
- 9:48No, he would literally become Show run.
- 9:51I just eliminated the alternative Universe, you know?
- 9:55That's my precious baby. I mean, he lost his shit.
- 9:59Adopted who became a woman, didn't a there.
- 10:01But still watched every episode of smite saying you all hated it
- 10:04all except the old one which he said that was the best thing
- 10:07ever. That's what it goes to prove.
- 10:11What someone might even love Ben wants and likes about Doc's to
- 10:15who when all of a sudden he thought power of the doctor was
- 10:17the greatest thing ever just because it had some cameos in
- 10:20it. It's like yeah I love power of
- 10:22the doctor at a time but I'm a fan of the era as we were saying
- 10:26on that the previous episode. But it's interesting that I
- 10:29don't think it's the best episode of the era.
- 10:33So in terms of critical faculties actually you're not
- 10:37judging it by the content. You're judging your to based on
- 10:39the fact that it pushed us Nostalgia buttons by bringing
- 10:42back Ian Chesterton and Colin Baker or whatever and I don't
- 10:46think that's quite the critical factors.
- 10:48You should be judging an episode of Doctor Who but do you really
- 10:52like my heart swelled when Ian turned up?
- 10:55And I love the cat meows and all of that.
- 10:57My favorite parts of that work. 13.
- 11:00And yes. And the fact that it's alright,
- 11:03girl found it again. I don't care.
- 11:05The fact that her last act before she died was an act of
- 11:10kindness freeing. That's and it reminded me so
- 11:13much of it takes you away like facing something amazing.
- 11:16And then setting it free into the universe.
- 11:18Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:18I just thought, I just thought he gauged her exit perfectly, it
- 11:24was one of my favorite like new series exits.
- 11:27I found quite a few of them to be very overblown and and it
- 11:29wasn't really an episode about the speech was there at the end
- 11:33just, you know, whoever you're next.
- 11:35Let's do it. It was a lovely moment and
- 11:39really subtly played and I hope that the people that have been
- 11:44very unkind about getting around in a few years time, we'll come
- 11:46back to it when it will happen. Yeah.
- 11:49And the re-evaluate and realize what, what a breath of fresh air
- 11:54that era was but we'll talk about that when we do demons
- 11:57indeed. Oh yeah, Dalek invasion of
- 12:01Earth. Yeah, this is all right, sir.
- 12:04So that's the outdoors here isn't?
- 12:05It can just spark conversations that away from the story that
- 12:10you're talking about. That's such a breadth of it.
- 12:12Now there's so much dr. Who.
- 12:14Yeah. And it's a loved one side.
- 12:18I'm talking about a page one reboots, but the other side,
- 12:20like it's all interlinked. And you know what?
- 12:23I'd love to see them. Do something interesting, with
- 12:26the robo, man. Now I think I mentioned before
- 12:29For they do it in, Dalek Empire, the big finish series, but yeah,
- 12:33I just think it's such a horrible concept that much
- 12:38better than our bloody hated that thing.
- 12:40They did in the Moffett are aware, like a garlic going to
- 12:42come out of someone's hand. I stalk out of my head.
- 12:46It's like, that's not fair or right up.
- 12:52I appreciate there are many fans of that era and I'm so pleased.
- 12:56You enjoyed it. I have a lot about it.
- 12:57I did enjoy as well, but Yeah yeah I'm a fan of that era but
- 13:03there's certain parts of it that don't work for me.
- 13:06But again, we digress. So this was because that's not
- 13:11been talking about with this robe of that I can't stop saying
- 13:14the word file about with it all for God's sakes.
- 13:17I call wind and heat. Someone outside was just walking
- 13:25along with running away from the Daleks and that road.
- 13:27Oh man, just fell on their head. He's gone down the Chute.
- 13:32In fact they made That explicit movie.
- 13:35Well the crib is goes down the Chute and then they're just sort
- 13:38of like jump on to the location that.
- 13:41I mean, what what are the, what are the Daleks need all those
- 13:43rubber sheets for getting rid of all the Rainbow drops and they
- 13:49should be ready to see behind that line.
- 13:54Lie says well these sort of bro ruined buildings.
- 13:57I like it when they get in the sewers.
- 13:59As well. Like it's not contain.
- 14:02You think they would because I ain't got any money.
- 14:04Containers were a few settings, Ashley it just and this is a
- 14:07very Terry Nation thing keeps a Mariners is like, right?
- 14:10Every two minutes. We're going to go off somewhere
- 14:12else. I don't get.
- 14:13Yeah I got the money. We're going to Jungle we're
- 14:15going to a nice Tundra. Yeah and this is I think this is
- 14:20the bit where you just hear the Daleks exterminate someone
- 14:22off-screen. Is that right?
- 14:24That's how much better the sound.
- 14:26Yeah. And it's not the focus is on
- 14:28Caroline for Durant. And this fella, I think David,
- 14:32David Campbell Cameron. Let's look at this is a love
- 14:35story for the ages. This there to see a one moment.
- 14:39They're juggling a fish. The Next Movement been married,
- 14:44I know yes. But this is the bit and the guys
- 14:46going, you killed my wife, you killed my brother and then they
- 14:49just exterminate him. I mean it's a bit obvious but
- 14:53it's still kind of scary. I think for kids, you know, with
- 14:59the bra. Over there and the mother over
- 15:00there in the living room. Yeah.
- 15:02Watching this, yeah, it's like it's dark stuff for a Saturday
- 15:07tea time in that respect and I really appreciate the efforts.
- 15:11They goes to to make this relationship plausible.
- 15:16Yeah. Because that's how you are.
- 15:17They don't always do that. And I'll tell you, do they
- 15:19leader in a trance? Yes.
- 15:23Yeah. Like you can kind of believe
- 15:25she'd want to stay with him, even if you know, and the
- 15:28spin-off media Modell's a bit further into what happens
- 15:32between those two. But I just think it's so moving
- 15:36as well because she would never leave him, you know?
- 15:39And he makes the choice for her. You know, you gotta go.
- 15:43I've why you will never leave me.
- 15:45He's like I know whether there's a spaceship crash somewhere with
- 15:48somebody that's a bit better than you.
- 15:49So I'm I do enjoy life in water or London.
- 15:56Heli, when she's gone, you know, do you?
- 15:59Like my granddaughter, Susan. Come on.
- 16:01Some adventures with me. Don't over a naissance now yo,
- 16:06isn't it? Oh, yeah.
- 16:08He loves her and that big finish recasted and with somebody
- 16:11that's but I believe is quite attractive.
- 16:13So everybody's like are dodos, are babe, without the say
- 16:16something really, really obscene.
- 16:18Now, saith all Jack Elena to do was die for dodo to be popular
- 16:24one singing our Praises rather enjoyed her.
- 16:28She's into Susie, a stick enough.
- 16:30It's because a lot of our episodes, don't exist that.
- 16:33I just, and the episodes that do exist with the last ones to be
- 16:36released on VHS. So it was just kind of like
- 16:40every people have just been down on the character because they
- 16:43don't know a lot about it. And you know, there are a lot of
- 16:46production issues of that time that do affect sir.
- 16:49I've got to sort of nightmare scenario of the 13th Doctor.
- 16:55Dodo and Mel all traveling together.
- 16:58Can you imagine the Assam in that room.
- 17:00You can about forever as a spin-off.
- 17:03We need to see big finish. Do you work?
- 17:07You've got all the actors. Let's go.
- 17:09Yeah, that's going. I'm into it.
- 17:11It's serious. It's having a nap old.
- 17:14Billy Hartnell. I don't actually know that does
- 17:16raise the stakes, doesn't it? Yeah, it does.
- 17:19It does the doctors Fox because he's nearly robotized and we can
- 17:24we can criticize Susan because and I think it's Mostly the
- 17:29characterization, occasionally, the performance.
- 17:32Yeah, I do really believe that they're related and yet very
- 17:36fond of each other. That's a lovely moment.
- 17:38Later later on where she's massaging his leg, as he's
- 17:41trying to, like, sort of game feeling back in it and again,
- 17:45another good that's just another person slaughtered here.
- 17:49Another character that we've met briefly in my like always going
- 17:51down to the coast. He'll be safe and he's just he's
- 17:54gone. We will say that it's Eric's
- 17:57award to gets the Paul talks count in but Terry Nation wiped
- 18:03out. Most of the population of the
- 18:05Earth in the apartment pilot of survivors.
- 18:07Yeah, he does see an underground car park in the pile of Blake's
- 18:117. Yeah, very true.
- 18:14He does he doesn't dark that whole thing in the first episode
- 18:16of Blake's ever marries frame for being a paedophile.
- 18:19It's like fucking hell. They really shy away from all of
- 18:23that later on. Gann like this suggestion of
- 18:27Sexual assault and things like that.
- 18:31Here we are with the six episodes are like, this is gonna
- 18:33be a serious drama. Yeah, but then Jude, Hudson
- 18:36joins us joins the show and it's game over.
- 18:40We're here. We are with all the location
- 18:43footage for my seen, the Daleks out and about, and this is like,
- 18:47five minutes of the dark invasion of it, you could rip
- 18:49out and show anybody. Yeah.
- 18:53It's just, it's quite interesting as well that they've
- 18:56gone for this character, but a wheelchair user as well.
- 18:58But I mean, obviously showing The Something's Happened to him
- 19:02when were like during the Dalek invasion but they're just
- 19:05desperately trying to get across London with him and and lesser
- 19:09lesser story, they would have left it behind but you know it's
- 19:14they're all struggling to see how the word you.
- 19:18You say there is a desperation to this isn't there.
- 19:21Yeah, yeah absolutely wow. Let me set the Daleks by
- 19:25Parliament, is the lights all great.
- 19:27They're just running across a bridge and it's empty if this
- 19:30vacant isn't it a 6 a.m. on a Sunday?
- 19:33Apparently you can see bosses in some of the shops in the
- 19:36background but and when they get when they got stuff our Square
- 19:40they acted move on. A lot of homeless people, they
- 19:42were sleeping rough there. Those buses that was the Daleks
- 19:46were conserving. A bit of energy, you know.
- 19:48Yeah the bus I mean, who hasn't gotten it also and you know
- 19:54Played out these sets because I'll certainly have, is it just
- 19:59me and the music here? Now there's this, there's like
- 20:05that crazy militaristic drum beat playing.
- 20:09Yeah, the little doll, it marks as well on the on the Lions
- 20:13there. It's all and how fast are they
- 20:16going with that? Will ya, there's like a paste of
- 20:18this. You don't normally having 60s
- 20:21Doctor, Who Well, I rainbow, just look, always rubbing.
- 20:25It's like they don't have time to build up this speed and
- 20:28within the studio before they bump into a wall.
- 20:31I think that there we just saw our first High, anger, cat
- 20:34camera. Shot there, looking up at the
- 20:35three of them. Yeah.
- 20:37Oh, that is a doll. Can you say that?
- 20:40Dalek salute, the Nazi salute they're doing with their
- 20:42plunger? Yeah.
- 20:44Boy they plunge is so long in this story.
- 20:47It's a bird that has usually shouldn't you do mommy say yeah
- 20:53that's all it's have got there. Extra-long plunges out there was
- 20:56ever asked me that you know, that sure though they're that
- 21:01low angle shot of the Daleks coming towards the edge of the
- 21:05steps. That's beautiful.
- 21:06Yeah, that's great. There's just a cleanness about
- 21:11film camera work, isn't there? Yeah, it's a shame.
- 21:14We haven't got more Doctor Who all shot on film from this area.
- 21:19I do think that sometimes that's what why Doctor Who has a bit
- 21:23more of a bad rap of being a bit hokey and say Star, Trek
- 21:26original Star Trek and stuff like that because having that
- 21:29mixture of the Enfield. Yeah.
- 21:31Well just the videotape look aging worse than the film stuff,
- 21:36you know. Like I was watching the Star
- 21:38Trek episode today and it was kind of the remastered version
- 21:42and the colors popped March, and like he's drunk Trouble with
- 21:46Tribbles the other day and I said on that, this is so
- 21:50vibrant. Yeah.
- 21:51Yeah, it is. And it's just, it's such a shame
- 21:54that like, you can still see those things being repeated
- 21:58almost. I mean, they were still on
- 22:00terrestrial television like in the 90s and the early naughties
- 22:03where is Doctor Who repeats really struggled?
- 22:05I think to read and really gain any traction past the sort of
- 22:09early 90s, but I think it is the fact that they're all shot on
- 22:12video tape. But people just don't respond to
- 22:15us. Unfortunately, you are as we've
- 22:18got headaches, Tales of like, trying to explain to his mother
- 22:22that that's video and that's film issue.
- 22:24Just as we can see your tea, please.
- 22:26Yeah. These vetoed signs that.
- 22:31Yeah. Rebels, use them quite
- 22:34interesting. I've actually got a courtesy of
- 22:37plated, Hickman's, Redbubble, some coasters in the living room
- 22:40that have. Got the veto sign on them, and
- 22:43Small enough to slip past my girlfriend.
- 22:45She doesn't realize it's a doctor who reference!
- 22:47Oh Rich! You have to do that.
- 22:49Then you have to no. No, it's she's actually fairly
- 22:52good but she's parent fairly tolerant of me.
- 22:56There's a to do true fans in this house.
- 22:58You can't walk anywhere in this out, about rigging office.
- 23:00In this to dr. As bloody Daleks evasion of
- 23:04poster in the toilet for god sakes.
- 23:07What one thing that I do, she wasn't, but we moved in
- 23:10together, I own the original Painting of the book cover of
- 23:15Shakedown and I was like, that's going in the living room, it's
- 23:19not going in the office and she was like, Hey called it looks
- 23:22quite Art Deco and sort of your be quite careful.
- 23:26What you choose. You know that we've been
- 23:33together is, sometimes you share an underwear drawer, Barse.
- 23:36Look, those Tom Baker, Underpants are right there.
- 23:38My Tasha sorry. I was just eventually one day
- 23:45when I get my full sized are like there.
- 23:47It will have to live in the living room.
- 23:48So would you spend that much money you only on the show, you
- 23:52know? Or I'm not hiding that in the
- 23:56garage? You know, the the poster at the
- 24:00beginning is forbidden to dump bodies and Forbidden Planet in
- 24:04London the other day, right? And they've got that on a
- 24:07t-shirt. I thought it was over.
- 24:08If you wear that and you're not around Doctor, Who fans, he will
- 24:12be Very confused. Yeah, it's good.
- 24:16Tee shot though. Yeah, I can see why that would
- 24:19confuse people It's in the movie.
- 24:25I think the bit where Dortmund is killed.
- 24:29Yeah, is really horrible. He gets out Leslie and and it's
- 24:33fire. Extinguishers going a bit crazy
- 24:35and there's like bricks everywhere.
- 24:37Yeah. And he kind of like, froze his
- 24:40wheel of his wheelchair, doesn't it?
- 24:41It's all spins. Yeah, it's really, really
- 24:45stoppage here. It's a bit more like the Daleks
- 24:49face up enough for this guy and I don't do.
- 24:51We even get the effect or is it and his bomb, just sort of
- 24:54smokes away. And it's that are, at least
- 24:57least, give him like a bomb that kills one of the Daleks or
- 25:00something. But it wasn't to be I mean, even
- 25:04so do it is kind of pushing home the idea that nobody is safe
- 25:08because you kind of think, well, he's more regular so he's gonna
- 25:11be all right. We do get an extermination of
- 25:14that bad but it wasn't the most convincing fall to the ground.
- 25:18Yeah, I think it was one sequence in this TV version
- 25:21though, which actually might surpass the movie.
- 25:26And that's when Barbara is in the car and she's smashing
- 25:29through. Alex bloody?
- 25:30Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:33It's Very cool. I think we have to wait for next
- 25:36week for that, but it is really good.
- 25:38When there's the bloody dialect talking to the mannequin.
- 25:40I just, I just isn't it? Yes.
- 25:42Strange, as this? Yeah, it's very odd.
- 25:45Because all the time they've been on this planet, but even
- 25:49just, like at the dollars, were, they must be able to distinguish
- 25:51between like living matter and plastic Very old, it's not
- 25:57scratching your head and go or how the fuck did they invade
- 26:00this planet? You know, oh no Hannah whistle.
- 26:03Oh, he's looking out for long, he's just shown up.
- 26:08Yeah, did I will say though, I always miss it when every Ducks
- 26:10Alfred episode 80 him here million as well.
- 26:13Like if he and Ducks out I'm like we're really missing like a
- 26:17key element and Jaclyn Hill. So basically just not caring
- 26:21that Ford uses basely cold season.
- 26:27I do like like I loved her in the first episode and I think
- 26:32she gets a bits of good stuff in the sensor rights but generally
- 26:35she should have been delivered shrieking violence isn't she
- 26:38don't mind parts of Marco Polo's?
- 26:40Well, that friendships years, Joe.
- 26:42That's quite nice too. Yeah, it's just with a maker
- 26:46that Perils of Pauline Source query written is and it's it
- 26:51wouldn't matter so much if you had some redeeming moments but
- 26:54it's like they just never Or anything decent to do like it's
- 26:59you do must not let you go. Why would she want to travel
- 27:02with the doctor like what she's always gotta get back to the
- 27:06ship. You know they're looking and in
- 27:09the Romans episode 12 over the bit way where it's like what
- 27:12kind of Rome and she just goes, you know, that's what you want
- 27:16to say. She's so excited, it's exactly
- 27:19that. It's like, why does Susan ever
- 27:20leave the ship? She's just wants to get back
- 27:23there. I also like wishing about Tegan
- 27:25a equal, A lot as well. Yeah, yeah you really need it
- 27:28into your companions to want to be there and be having a good
- 27:31time and it does in the 80s. It feels like for about four
- 27:36years and nobody wants to be in that Tardis at all and you're
- 27:39like I can see why it drove some people away.
- 27:44That empower, the doctor when taken goes that?
- 27:46Yes, I would like to go into the Tardis.
- 27:49I was like, God, he wrote that it because that's all she bloody
- 27:51wanted to do in the 80s. I don't know.
- 27:54Honestly, they're hard as a line in this though.
- 27:59It's beautifully judged as well because it means it's setting
- 28:02out. The fact that he knows that
- 28:04there's some Chemistry Between. Yeah, sit where he says I like I
- 28:08can see Something's Cooking. He says yeah when they're making
- 28:11the fittest and he plays it really warm.
- 28:14It's a really nasty really comes down the ramp.
- 28:18There we go, my favorite, there's a fabulous story, you
- 28:23know, Nick Evans, who is the campus?
- 28:26Contribute to any dogs, Who documentary tells me he's campus
- 28:30Christmas and he goes I had this call from from Dickie Martin
- 28:33saying no, please come over to talk to who and do 6 episode.
- 28:36He's like, all right dick ey don't know what a Dalek is but
- 28:39I'll be very happy to come and do some acting for you and then
- 28:43he was Scented with the shelves. Like it's quite taken aback.
- 28:48Have you ever seen the Jack pit mythmakers?
- 28:52Did I hijack a pities? I've had a name but no, I
- 28:55haven't. So Jap it was like a zombie and
- 28:59a couple of other like tiny little bit Parts.
- 29:01But the reason why it's so good is because he's a very bitchy
- 29:05Camp individual and he happiest. He used to live the shared
- 29:10digg-zacta sticks with William Hartnell during the shooting of
- 29:13Doctor Who and he's got some rye told stories of them, just
- 29:16scared like William Hartnell hard Drinker and like getting
- 29:19into fights with people and perhaps the people that it's one
- 29:22of the most fantastic myth makers and well worth a well
- 29:26worth trying. King down.
- 29:27I can't. Is it all those mythmakers?
- 29:30Ron Pride? Now, I think it may very well.
- 29:33It's on one of its either on prime or brick box.
- 29:37Yeah, I think it's a wonder if you can track it down.
- 29:40Honestly, it's one of its one of the ones that you just like
- 29:45nobody really knows who this guy is and they just called him a
- 29:47few years before his death and just got all these fantastic
- 29:50stories. And yeah I mean William Hartnell
- 29:53doesn't sound like a, it doesn't come across as a great guy in it
- 29:56Herod. Danny.
- 29:57Yeah, this is a weird choice now with the ticking bomb and every
- 30:03tick, the camera Zooms in is a lazy directory.
- 30:14It's like something out of like the 60s Batman, but in the 60s,
- 30:18Batman, they're sort of taking the piss a bit, but that was
- 30:21like his serious directorial choice to just keep punching in
- 30:24and punching in, come rain or shine.
- 30:27You are going to have a bomb or a ticking clock and it's
- 30:30variations done. It happens at the end of the
- 30:32Daleks. You got the time to structure in
- 30:35the diet's master players. Yeah.
- 30:37There's bombs being handed about in a planet of the Daleks.
- 30:41Yeah, the look of it like T Chase.
- 30:45Okay, is there a popular choice? Let's play against type, he can
- 30:52be having an off day. Many people say that by the
- 30:56choice, you know, I don't agree. But why there is a hoot?
- 31:01Okay, well to bring today's recording to a climax.
- 31:05I am going to head back to Twitter again to see what people
- 31:10would like to another try and find an intellectual.
- 31:13Quite I fell everyone, I threw you in episode 2 was from the
- 31:17comedian's of the Tweet World. Okay?
- 31:22Rod who asks was this a fundamental shift in the show?
- 31:26The first Returning monster first invasion of the Earth.
- 31:30First proper action. Sequences first companion
- 31:33departure. How far did this influence?
- 31:35What was to come? Yeah.
- 31:38I think it's kind of what we're saying about the doctor becoming
- 31:40a here earlier as well. It's like, all of a sudden it's
- 31:43about his feet as the doctors of Action Hero and has got like a
- 31:49mortal enemy essentially like this that you couldn't imagine
- 31:52the vord coming back or they weren't going to revisit to
- 31:55talk. So you know, it It's but the
- 31:58Daleks are, obviously this this great hit to start off.
- 32:01And yeah, I think this is really the beginning of like Doctor Who
- 32:04was a sort of sci-fi action adventure series on a Saturday
- 32:06night. So, yeah, I think this is this
- 32:09is almost the template. Yeah, for the Lord invasion of
- 32:12Earth. All right.
- 32:15Me too me too. Although they terrible.
- 32:18Yes, I am Ava tan. What do you mean?
- 32:23I'm wearing that bloke on I. Why is your head so much?
- 32:27All of a sudden am happy with it.
- 32:31Okay, great for summer. Uncle Ben asks what they have
- 32:35the other day, you know, is very Charming, Man.
- 32:38Have the Daleks killed all of the attractive men in their
- 32:41future as part of their plan main question.
- 32:46I mean, there aren't a lot of lockers in the Daleks invasion
- 32:51of Earth. But then I don't know whether
- 32:53I'd be looking my best to if I'd been subjugated by the Daleks
- 32:56for many years. So there aren't really very many
- 32:58hot been. I don't really have as many hot
- 33:00women to be honest. It's a very there aren't many
- 33:03people of color either. So, you know, that's not unusual
- 33:06in 60s, Doctor Who know felt very true.
- 33:09But ya know, there aren't any hot man in the future
- 33:12unfortunately. So in the movie they bring in.
- 33:15What's the fellows name? He plays David.
- 33:18There's an actor, isn't he? Yeah.
- 33:21But he's quite handsome in the trailer.
- 33:23It says they say his name is like that the man with the look.
- 33:27Whoo On find mine. So easy in the year 2150, ad,
- 33:31you know, but it's good that they didn't try and marry off,
- 33:35Susan to him in the film version with her being 12 or whatever.
- 33:38He would have been very awkward. Yes.
- 33:43I love Roberto. Be Susan, told me to bring her
- 33:47into the main series and forget about this in our, in our reboot
- 33:52of Doctor Who, you know, will have to revisit Roberto be, you
- 33:54know, older Susan. She isn't Bruce also asked if
- 33:59the Daleks chose that complicated escape room puzzle
- 34:02to help decide on Robo men. Why does everyone in the sale?
- 34:05Get converted, not just the one who solved it.
- 34:09Maybe they didn't see exactly what was going on and they
- 34:11thought it was a group effort. That's a good hug.
- 34:15Yeah that's all I got the Glorious Daniel.
- 34:19No I ask. Why does the Dalek at the start
- 34:22of the episode as of episode 2 sound like Henry Crumb from the
- 34:26goons? I mean they just they often
- 34:31sound like a bunch of Camp old men.
- 34:33Don't know the Daleks and so they should they should indeed I
- 34:37Ki thing. I do one more it David Campbell
- 34:43dumpster. In the minute.
- 34:44That's all that's left. Lucky I imagined imagine you
- 34:51know it's a bit of a kind of assumption but you going to stay
- 34:54in this time and be with that person forever.
- 34:56You know, like they haven't been on a first date and also dating
- 35:00will be rubbish about future. There's no restaurants, there's
- 35:03no bars like black where you going.
- 35:05It's like oh we're going to cook a fish on a cliff again and then
- 35:09they do some interesting stuff. Don't know with extended media
- 35:13like it. War of the dark objects, if
- 35:15you've ever read that, oh, yeah. That's, that's it.
- 35:19Here, isn't it? Oh, and Susan talks about I
- 35:24think, David's long dead because she's a Time.
- 35:26Lord, obviously, and she's outlived him and she said she
- 35:30had to start wearing Prosthetics of to make a look aged because
- 35:35she just wasn't aging, which is I miss a lot of my family but
- 35:40it's John, peel course is sticky.
- 35:44Okay. Well, that Lisa, because asking
- 35:45to Susan related questions, right?
- 35:48One did Susan find some more robust Footwear.
- 35:53She must have done the rebels would have robust Footwear like
- 35:56left, right and center, right? That's the main part of being a
- 35:59probably. Yeah.
- 36:01And when Susan gets a wet fish in the face, why doesn't she
- 36:05just meet your prospective lover in the groin?
- 36:09I mean, she should do. But it was the 60s and, you
- 36:11know, women were It around the face with a fish all the time.
- 36:15Apparently. And she actually, finally asked
- 36:18a very serious question, which is following on from that
- 36:20there's been some debate over whether the doctor would have
- 36:22abandoned a grandson. Just as he did, Susan, I'm
- 36:27inclined to think that he would have possibly sooner.
- 36:29Any thoughts? That's interesting.
- 36:32I've never really considered that because you just don't
- 36:34think of the doctor having a grandson.
- 36:37I mean, I think it depends on the relationship, but I think he
- 36:40probably would have but then what the grandson have been The
- 36:44shrieking Susan. The that we have probably not.
- 36:47No but then you wouldn't you wouldn't have had Maids for an
- 36:51alien character, would you? That's true, they've kind of
- 36:55position. Those three really well and they
- 36:56saw, they were all doing different things plot-wise?
- 36:59Oh yeah. I've never thought about it but,
- 37:03you know, maybe he, maybe the doctors Graham said what I've
- 37:06got slightly more heroic exit and probably wouldn't have been
- 37:10abandoned because you male characters didn't get married
- 37:13off in the sixties. And seventies, typically
- 37:15generally not know, and went off to say earlier about Susan.
- 37:20In the first episode gone with that sort of really exotic
- 37:24weird. Little bit, sexy, Susan.
- 37:27It's so interesting when that it was and But she just like by the
- 37:32second episode, even she's just crying and screaming all the
- 37:36time. Like that's where the cliché of
- 37:38the screaming Doctor Who girl comes from.
- 37:40I think a lot of it isn't that first season with Susan, but
- 37:43yeah, it would have been a much more interest.
- 37:45I mean, she famously said, she thought she was signing up to
- 37:47play like an Avengers girl like a on a block when sort of
- 37:50character and he/she is just crying and screaming.
- 37:55You signed up for this many episodes.
- 37:57Join another contract, no way Mike There's more anyway, next
- 38:03episode called it's called the end of tomorrow which is a Terry
- 38:09Nation classic title. I think it was something that my
- 38:11absolute bollocks and I what the hell is the Coronas of the sun?
- 38:14All about, or as we have coming up at some point, the waking a
- 38:18lie. We don't know who that is.
- 38:21Well, maybe we'll discover, it's the sliver.
- 38:25Of course he was a good man. Nobody could understand what he
- 38:30was saying to say. Only The Darlings have been
- 38:32keeping me prisoner as well. He just wanted a hug.
- 38:37Well, we're gonna take a little break between God laughs 13 and
- 38:42for thank you this week, three and four, but we'll be back soon
- 38:47and I can do great. great.
