- 0:00This is a continuation. This is Part 2 of 2 and
- 0:04hopefully this is not going to be too long, but I wasn't able
- 0:08to. I cut the other one short
- 0:09because it was an hour and 20 minutes almost.
- 0:13So anyway, here we go with Part 2.
- 0:17As I was saying before is that it's really important for us to
- 0:21recognize the enemy. So this is a word search for the
- 0:26word devil and it's using the NIV version and the source is
- 0:32blueletterbible.org if you want to do this on your own and look
- 0:36at it. So I, I won't repeat some of the
- 0:40stories. I guess that I'll try to get
- 0:42through these quickly. There's 33 verses that we have
- 0:45to get through. So then Jesus was led by the
- 0:48Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
- 0:52This is right after Jesus's baptism.
- 0:55He was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be
- 0:59tempted by the devil. Matthew chapter 4 verse one.
- 1:05That's where that's found. Matthew 4 verse 5.
- 1:07Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on
- 1:12the highest point of the temple. And, and then in verse 8 it says
- 1:18again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed
- 1:21him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
- 1:25And then in Matthew 411 it says then the devil left him and the
- 1:30angels came and attended to him. So there's a lot in those verses
- 1:35that talk about the devil. It just, it shows how each time
- 1:38he's tempting him, he's like at the highest point of the temple,
- 1:43he's showing him all the kingdoms of the world and then
- 1:47he finally leaves him. So each time the devil tempted
- 1:52him, Jesus responded with scripture.
- 1:55So that teaches us that if we know Scripture, we can respond
- 1:59to the temptations by from the devil.
- 2:04So the first thing that Satan said.
- 2:06So I'll, I'll just read this, this one Matthew chapter 4
- 2:11verses one through 11. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit
- 2:15into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil after
- 2:17fasting 40 days and 40 nights he was hungry.
- 2:22That's a long time. The tempter came to him and
- 2:24said, if you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become
- 2:29bread. And Jesus answered, it is
- 2:32written, man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word
- 2:37that comes from the mouth of God.
- 2:41So there's there's way more to that and he is responding with
- 2:49Scripture. That's in Deuteronomy chapter 8
- 2:52verse 3. That's what he is responding
- 2:55back to Satan on that. Then the devil took him to the
- 2:58holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
- 3:02If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written
- 3:05He will command His angels concerning you, and they will
- 3:08lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your
- 3:12foot against a stone. So the devil is actually using
- 3:18scripture against Jesus. Now he's he's smart there.
- 3:22It's he's referencing Psalm 91 verses 11 and 12, saying that to
- 3:27Jesus. And then Jesus replies back.
- 3:30There's like a scripture duel, you know, shoot out here.
- 3:34Jesus answered him. It is also written, do not put
- 3:37your God to the test. That's found in Deuteronomy 616.
- 3:43Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed
- 3:45him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
- 3:48All this I will give you. He said, if you will bow down
- 3:52and worship me. Jesus said to him, away from me
- 3:56Satan. For it is written, worship the
- 3:58Lord your God and serve him only.
- 4:02That's Deuteronomy 6 verse 13. Then the devil left him, and
- 4:08angels came and attended him. So what Satan said about the
- 4:12angels, that he will command his angels concerning you.
- 4:15They will lift you up in their hands so that you will not
- 4:18strike your foot against a stone God.
- 4:20Then you know the angels are coming to Jesus and the devil
- 4:23left him. What did Jesus do?
- 4:25He resisted the devil and the devil fled.
- 4:29So that's something else that is in Scripture that says just
- 4:33resist. So in Matthew 13, verse 39, and
- 4:38the enemy who sows them is the devil.
- 4:40The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are the
- 4:43angels. Now this is really interesting.
- 4:45This is about end times. And this is, I believe, about
- 4:50the wheat. Yeah, the well, some of them are
- 4:52called the weeds and the tares. But so, gosh, let's see.
- 5:01The best way to understand this is to probably read it the
- 5:08parable of the weeds. So I'll read that Jesus told
- 5:11them another parable. The Kingdom of heaven is like a
- 5:14man who sowed good seed in his field.
- 5:16While everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed the weeds
- 5:21among the wheat and went away. When the wheat sprouted and
- 5:25formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
- 5:29Sometimes these are called wheat and terrors.
- 5:32The owner's servants came to him and said, Sir, didn't you sow
- 5:35good seed in your field? Then where did all these weeds
- 5:37come from? An enemy did this, he replied.
- 5:40The servants asked him, Do you want us to go and pull them up?
- 5:44No, he answered, because while you are pulling the weeds, you
- 5:48may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the
- 5:54harvest. At that time, I will tell the
- 5:57harvesters, first collect the weeds and tie them in bunches to
- 6:02be burned, bind them, then gather the wheat and bring it
- 6:06into my barn. So this is telling us about when
- 6:11I believe. This is when Jesus returns on
- 6:14the clouds and his angels go out and gather his elect.
- 6:20That's what I believe. And I believe that Jesus, the
- 6:23ones who are prepared, will be protected in some manner in some
- 6:29place while the wrath of God occurs.
- 6:33And this happens at the 6th seal in the Book of Revelation.
- 6:36I think it's chapter 6 covers the seals.
- 6:39So this is the wheat and the tares.
- 6:43Now it's explained. Now later on in that chapter in
- 6:47verse 36, it's explained the parable of the weeds explained.
- 6:51Then he left the crowd and went into the house.
- 6:53His disciples came to him and said, explain to us the parable
- 6:56of the weeds in the field. He answered, the one who sowed
- 7:00the good seed is the son of man. He's referring to himself.
- 7:04The field is the world, and the seed stands for the people of
- 7:09the Kingdom. The weeds are the people of the
- 7:12even evil 1 and the enemy who sows them is the devil.
- 7:18The harvest is the end of the age and the harvesters are the
- 7:22angels. So again this is, you know, it
- 7:27tells us this is the end of the age.
- 7:29When this happens, the harvesters are angels and this
- 7:33goes back to the book of Genesis and I think chapter 3 where God
- 7:40as a result of the sin of Adam and Eve, he said I will create
- 7:44enmity speaking to Eve between your seed and his seed.
- 7:51He speaks to both Eve and Satan, the serpent and that there's but
- 8:00there's there's both of them. So Satan has evil ones.
- 8:04There are evil people here and I don't know how that happens
- 8:10other I mean, I don't know the the exact way that that happens
- 8:14if it's a spiritual significance or a physical one.
- 8:19And well, doesn't really matter, I guess.
- 8:23But there's obviously some that are sown by are some they're
- 8:29there by God and some that are there by the evil 1.
- 8:33So then he continues as the weeds are pulled up and burned
- 8:36in the fire. So it will be at the end of the
- 8:38age. The Son of Man, Jesus will send
- 8:42out his angels and they will weed out His Kingdom.
- 8:46Everything that causes sin and all who do evil, they will throw
- 8:52them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and
- 8:57gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine
- 9:01like the sun in the Kingdom of the Father.
- 9:05Whoever has ears, let them hear. So the devil's out sowing his
- 9:11seed. It's just to offset what God has
- 9:15done. So then Matthew 25, verse 41, it
- 9:22says, then he will say to those on his left, depart from me you
- 9:26who are cursed into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and
- 9:32his angels. So the devil has angels, there
- 9:34are evil angels, there are godly angels and there are evil ones.
- 9:40So this is sheep and the goats maybe?
- 9:43Or is that what he's talking? Yep, it's a sheep and the goats.
- 9:47So I'll read that parable to you.
- 9:49When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with
- 9:52him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
- 9:56All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate
- 10:00the people one from another. As a shepherd separates the
- 10:05sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his
- 10:08right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those
- 10:11on the right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your
- 10:16inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you since the
- 10:20creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave
- 10:24me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me
- 10:26something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited
- 10:28me in. I needed clothes and you clothed
- 10:30me. I was sick and you looked after
- 10:32me. I was in prison and you came to
- 10:33visit me. Then the righteous will answer
- 10:36him. Lord, when did we see you hungry
- 10:38and feed? You are thirsty and give you
- 10:39something to drink. When did we see you as a
- 10:42stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
- 10:45When did we see you sick or in prison or go to visit you?
- 10:47The King will reply, Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for
- 10:51one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,
- 10:54you did for me. So that's really interesting,
- 10:57the brothers and sisters that he's talking about, not just all
- 10:59people, but he's talking about other Christians, other
- 11:01believers, anybody who is in Christ.
- 11:05This is interesting. I didn't have this insight
- 11:06before. And this is people who are who
- 11:10are Christians like taking care of your brothers and sisters,
- 11:12your your Christians, any of them who are brothers and
- 11:15sisters of mine, you did for me. So when they have the Holy
- 11:19Spirit when they are in Christ. I think this is something that
- 11:23people get confused or haven't, you know, really understood this
- 11:26parable. And quite honestly, I didn't
- 11:28understand it until just right now.
- 11:31But what I'm reading is that this is talking about one of the
- 11:34least of these brothers and sisters of mine who are brothers
- 11:37and sisters of of Jesus. This if, if they don't have the
- 11:41Holy Spirit, are they a brother and sister?
- 11:43Are they a child of God yet? No.
- 11:47Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who
- 11:51are cursed into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and
- 11:54his angels. For I was hungry, and you gave
- 11:57me nothing to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me
- 11:59nothing to drink. I was a stranger, and you did
- 12:01not invite me in. I needed clothes and you did not
- 12:02clothe me. I was I was sick and in prison,
- 12:05and you did not look after me. They will also say, Lord, when
- 12:08did we see you hungry or thirsty or strange or needing clothes or
- 12:12sick, or in prison, and we did not help you.
- 12:14He will reply to Truly I tell you whatever you did not do for
- 12:18one of the least of these, you did not do for me.
- 12:21Then they will go away to an eternal punishment, but the
- 12:24righteous to eternal life. You know what's really
- 12:26interesting is that they call him Lord.
- 12:30So maybe this is like a hypocritical Christian and he's
- 12:36is going to the the hypocritical Christians are the goats along
- 12:40with other evil ones, the ones who are not living out living as
- 12:46Christ or do not have Christ abiding in them.
- 12:49That is through the Holy Spirit becoming one in spirit with the
- 12:52Father and the Son. Very interesting.
- 12:56So then Luke talks about the 40 days being tempted by the devil.
- 13:02That was, you know, after his baptism and about the
- 13:06temptations the devil said to him, if you are the son of God,
- 13:08make this bread and took him to the high place and he led him to
- 13:12Jerusalem. And when he finished all this is
- 13:16an interesting Luke 4 verse 13. When the devil had finished all
- 13:20hit this temp tempting. He left him until an opportune
- 13:26time. Think about that too.
- 13:30If you recall, Jesus had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights.
- 13:35He was hungry. That's how it started out.
- 13:38And then the devil started tempting him.
- 13:41So when you are in that, you know, kind of that fleshly
- 13:44desperate mode, that's the opportune time.
- 13:50When you are weak, that's the opportune time for Satan to come
- 13:54and tempt you. That's another thing it says
- 13:57like be alert and of sober mind because the devil prowls looking
- 14:01for his next victim. So if we are, you know,
- 14:08consuming alcohol or drugs or something that's affecting our
- 14:12mind and our way of thinking, we're at that opportune time for
- 14:17Satan to do something to tempt us.
- 14:20Just the thought. And that's again, a way we can
- 14:24resist him and avoid it. If we know this going into it.
- 14:30We can choose not to become or we can choose to keep a sober
- 14:39mind, not let our mind be influenced because we could be
- 14:43weak, that we could be tempted and then we could do something
- 14:47we regret. Again, this is also just
- 14:51highlighting the way the devil works and to alert people.
- 14:55Don't do things that you know. You know this is where he's
- 14:59going to get you, so stay away from it.
- 15:03Luke 8, verse 12. Those along the path are the
- 15:06ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the
- 15:10word from their hearts so that they may not believe and be
- 15:13saved. So this is kind of sad.
- 15:15This is like the gospel news, and the seed is the word of God.
- 15:22And those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the
- 15:27devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts so that
- 15:31they may not believe and be saved.
- 15:33How does he do that? I don't know.
- 15:36I mean, he effects their heart in some way.
- 15:38I'm not really sure. But it's just how people can
- 15:41hear the word of God. But they can choose not to
- 15:45believe and then they're not saved.
- 15:49Or they can choose to believe and be saved, but look at the
- 15:53devil's even trying to get people not to believe in John
- 15:59chapter 6, verse 70, Jesus replied, have I not chosen you
- 16:03the 12 yet? One of you is the devil.
- 16:06So this kind of I think it was the prior podcast where I was
- 16:09talking about this, how Satan wanted to sift every single one
- 16:12of his disciples. But then how Jesus knew the end
- 16:16from the beginning. He came to have his life taken.
- 16:21He was like, you know, there's no greater love than to lay down
- 16:24one's life for another. That's what Jesus did for all of
- 16:26us, for all of mankind. And so Jesus knew that's why he
- 16:32was here. He willingly went to the cross.
- 16:36He I, this is my speculation that he remained silent because
- 16:42he didn't want to let the enemy know his plan.
- 16:47Because if the enemy knew that he was going to defeat death on
- 16:52the cross and bring atonement to all of mankind, then the enemy
- 16:58would not have killed Jesus. But because Jesus knew that was
- 17:04coming and he wasn't going to let the the devil know about it.
- 17:11But he also chose his disciples, the 12 And he said, yet one of
- 17:17you is a, is a devil. Jesus knew Judas's heart and I
- 17:22think it was the prior podcast we talked about Satan entered
- 17:26Judas, he possessed him. That was Jesus knew.
- 17:30He wasn't like, Oh my gosh, one of my disciples, you know, got
- 17:33overcome by Satan. He knew it.
- 17:35I mean, in fact, he told Peter same thing was going to happen,
- 17:38that Peter was going to deny him.
- 17:42And he also told all of his disciples that Satan has asked
- 17:44to sift each one of you. So all of those things, Jesus
- 17:49knew about it and he chose Judas.
- 17:52He needed somebody. It was Judas's will.
- 17:55He knew Judas's greed. He knew that Judas would do
- 17:57anything for money. He knew Judas wasn't sincere in
- 18:00his faith. And so he was.
- 18:04He let Judas's free will go ahead and he chose them.
- 18:10He's like, OK, come with me. You can be in my group and yet
- 18:14fully knowing that this guy was going to betray him.
- 18:18That's just very insightful when we read this in Scripture and
- 18:23find out these things. In John chapter 8, verse 44, you
- 18:28belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out
- 18:32your father's desires. He was a murderer from the
- 18:35beginning, not holding to the truth for there is no truth in
- 18:40him. When he lies, he speaks his
- 18:42native language for he is a liar and the father of lies.
- 18:47So this is, there's a lot here, but it's just describing, you
- 18:55know, it's letting us know about Satan.
- 18:57He wants to kill. He doesn't speak the truth and
- 19:02he lies. And so this is telling us who he
- 19:07is. I mean, there's more in this,
- 19:10but I'm not going to go through all of that because we're just
- 19:13focusing on one topic and I don't want this to get too long.
- 19:17Here's John 13, verse 2. The evening meal was in progress
- 19:21and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon
- 19:26Iscariot, to betray Jesus. So first he prompted him.
- 19:31It's kind of like how sin works. And then when Judas like took
- 19:36the bait, Satan had more access. And I forgot which gospel says
- 19:43it, but the other gospel we read in last podcast said the devil
- 19:48entered him. So he was possessed by the
- 19:52devil. And and I went back to the
- 19:56original Greek word. So it wasn't just like a, you
- 19:59know, it's it's what was written in the Greek that he actually
- 20:04entered Judas. So here it said he prompted him.
- 20:07So I wonder what that word prompted translates in Greek.
- 20:10Devin had already put in into his heart.
- 20:13The son of to betray him. So yeah, the English NASB, it
- 20:18says the devil having already put into the heart of Judas to
- 20:26betray him. So I guess that it's just a
- 20:31restated word that he, you know, he affected his heart and made
- 20:36him want to follow through with his thoughts.
- 20:45Acts 1038 How how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy
- 20:51Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and
- 20:55healing all who were under the power of the devil because God
- 20:59was with him. I think this is interesting
- 21:03because the power of all who were under the power of the
- 21:08devil, he was healing all those who are under the power of the
- 21:14devil. So does that mean that those who
- 21:19need healing have the devil affecting them in that way?
- 21:29You know what happened to the beginning, like so the you know
- 21:35what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in
- 21:39Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed
- 21:44Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power and how he went around
- 21:48doing good and healing all who were under the power of the
- 21:51devil because God was with him. So he was casting out devils and
- 21:55he was healing people. So he was, I guess, spiritually
- 21:59and physically healing people who were under the power of the
- 22:02devil. In Acts 13, verse 10 says you
- 22:05are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is
- 22:09right. You are full of all kinds of
- 22:12deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting
- 22:17the right ways of the Lord? And so this was Paul.
- 22:26Oh gosh, this is, I don't know what his name is, Elimus the
- 22:32sorcerer, for that's what his name means.
- 22:36This is Acts 13 verse 8. Opposed them and tried to turn
- 22:40the proconsul from faith. Then Saul, who was also named
- 22:45Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at
- 22:50Ilymus and said, you are a child of the devil and an enemy of
- 22:54everything that is right. You are full of all kinds of
- 22:56deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting
- 22:59the right ways of the Lord? Now the the hand of the Lord is
- 23:02against you, you are going to be blind for a time, not even able
- 23:08to see the light of the sun. Immediately mist and darkness
- 23:13came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lean
- 23:18him by the hand. When the proconsul saw what saw
- 23:23what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the
- 23:27teaching about the Lord. So this is about all of their
- 23:34things in the book of act that happened.
- 23:36Ephesians 427 and do not give the devil a foothold.
- 23:40This is about anger. It says in your anger do not
- 23:44sin. Do not let the sun go down while
- 23:46you were still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
- 23:53So anger is another way that the devil gets access to us in First
- 24:01Timothy 36. He must not be a recent convert
- 24:04or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgement as
- 24:09the devil. Well, I think the devil had
- 24:12pride. And so this is talking about,
- 24:16it's giving all the qualities of overseers and deacons in a
- 24:19church. And it's talking about he can't
- 24:24be a recent convert or he may become conceited.
- 24:27I guess if he gets put into a position of a high position that
- 24:31he might get conceited and then pride would take over and then
- 24:35he would have the same judgment as the devil.
- 24:38He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so
- 24:42that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's
- 24:45trap. In the same way, deacons are to
- 24:52be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine and
- 24:56not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of deep
- 25:01truths of the faith with a clear conscience.
- 25:03They must first be tested, and then, if there's nothing against
- 25:07them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, the women are
- 25:13to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers, but temperate
- 25:18and trustworthy and everything. A Deacon must be faithful to his
- 25:22wife and must manage his children and his household well.
- 25:25Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great
- 25:29assurance in their faith in Jesus, in Christ Jesus.
- 25:34So they can't just have anybody being involved with the church.
- 25:36I mean, that's good practice to put in there to make sure people
- 25:39are living out their Christian walk if they're, especially if
- 25:43they're on the visible by other people.
- 25:47Because a lot of damage can be done when people call themselves
- 25:51Christians and they're in places of power and leadership, but yet
- 25:55they don't live Christian lives. They're hypocritical because
- 26:01those people are looked up to by attendees of the church or new
- 26:05people coming to the church, and if they see that, that can
- 26:09affect a lot of people. So it's wise to be selective
- 26:12with who is running your church or has a high position within a
- 26:16church. In Second Timothy 2, chapter 26,
- 26:21it says. And that they will come to their
- 26:24senses and escape from the trap of the devil who has taken them
- 26:28captive to do his will. That's interesting.
- 26:32So opponents, let's see. The Lord's OK And the Lord's
- 26:38servant must not be quarrelsome, but must be kind to everyone,
- 26:44able to teach and not resentful. Opponents must be gently
- 26:49instructed in the hope that God will grant them repentance,
- 26:54leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will
- 26:58come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil who
- 27:02has taken them captive to do his will.
- 27:05There's probably a little bit more that needs to be read about
- 27:08this. Let's see, this is about dealing
- 27:15with false teachers is the topic of this.
- 27:19Maybe we should just read it's verse.
- 27:21It starts dealing with false teachers starts in verse 14 from
- 27:26second Timothy chapter 2, and it goes through 26.
- 27:30So I'll read that whole thing. Keep reminding God's people of
- 27:34these things. Warn them before God against
- 27:37quarreling about words. It is no value and only ruins
- 27:42those who listen. Do your best to present yourself
- 27:45to God as one approved a worker who does not need to be ashamed
- 27:50and who correctly handles the word of truth.
- 27:53Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will
- 27:57become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like
- 28:01gangrene. Among them are Himenaeus and
- 28:05Philetus. I think those are the people
- 28:07that yeah, well, he says, who have departed from the truth.
- 28:10They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and
- 28:15they destroy the faith of some. Nevertheless, God's solid
- 28:20foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription.
- 28:24The Lord knows those who are his, and everyone who confesses
- 28:29the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness repentance.
- 28:36In a large house there are articles not only of gold and
- 28:39silver, but also wood and clay. Some are for special purposes
- 28:44and some are for common use. Those who cleanse themselves
- 28:49from the latter will be instruments for special
- 28:52purposes, made holy, useful to the Master, and prepared to do
- 28:56any good work. Flee the evil desires of youth
- 29:01and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with
- 29:07those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
- 29:11Do not have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments
- 29:16because you know, they produce quarrels and the Lord's servant
- 29:20must not be quarrelsome, but must be kind to everyone, able
- 29:23to teach, not resentful opponents must be gently
- 29:27instructed in the hope that God will grant them repentance,
- 29:31leading them to a knowledge of the truth and that they will
- 29:35come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil who
- 29:39has taken them captive to do his will.
- 29:41So this is I guess supporting that until we have the Holy
- 29:46Spirit, until our eyes are opened that we are a captive of
- 29:53the devil doesn't say that we chose him.
- 29:55But until we choose Christ, we because of the Adam and Eve,
- 30:01really, I guess that's what it goes back to.
- 30:03Because of original sin, we've separated our, we are separated
- 30:06from God and we have to choose God.
- 30:11We have to choose him. When we get a choice, we have to
- 30:14repent of our wickedness and receive the Holy Spirit.
- 30:20And until then we are under the power of the devil, not a
- 30:27willing power, but he's taken us captive and we don't even know
- 30:32it until somebody opens our eyes about it.
- 30:35And that's what this is saying here about the devil that he is.
- 30:43You know, when you're talking about what it says about the
- 30:45devil there, he has taken them captive to do his will.
- 30:47So people who are, they're operating when they don't have
- 30:50the Holy Spirit, they're operating under the will of the
- 30:53devil. He's influencing them.
- 30:55The devil can influence. We've already seen how he did it
- 30:58with the apostles and he does it with people in the church.
- 31:02So just because somebody calls themselves a Christian doesn't
- 31:05mean the devil can't influence them.
- 31:07However, if we have the Holy Spirit, that is our glass, that
- 31:10is our guard, that is our protection.
- 31:12So it's our relationship with God that protects us.
- 31:18So let's see, where are we now? Hebrews 214 Since the the
- 31:24children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity,
- 31:28so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds
- 31:33the power of death, that is the devil.
- 31:35So isn't that interesting that Jesus, another thing about him
- 31:38becoming human or coming as a human?
- 31:47He had to because flesh and blood, It's kind of like, I
- 31:52don't know, the atoning sacrifice without the shedding
- 31:55of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.
- 31:58So Jesus had to be a human who died, but he had to be perfect.
- 32:02He had to be unblemished so that he could be used in that purpose
- 32:08for all of us, to lay down his life for all of us.
- 32:12And he did this to break the power of him who holds the power
- 32:17of death, that is the devil, and free those who all their lives
- 32:22were held in slavery by their fear of death.
- 32:25Isn't that interesting? When we have a fear of death,
- 32:30Could that be that we don't really know Christ because those
- 32:33who know Christ will not have a fear of death?
- 32:36I mean, I'm sure at the time it's, it's just natural instinct
- 32:40to fear death and to preserve life.
- 32:42And I, I don't say that you just don't have any regard at all for
- 32:47that. That's not what I'm saying.
- 32:48But what I am saying is that people view death, death
- 32:54differently. Those who know Christ.
- 32:56I mean, sure, we might miss someone who has passed on, but
- 33:03when we know Christ and we know about the Kingdom of God and we
- 33:05know where we're going to be in the end because of Christ, then
- 33:12we don't view death the same. We still miss a person, but if
- 33:17they are also saved, then we know that we will be with them
- 33:21in the Kingdom of God and that this is only temporary and that
- 33:25that's how some people can have peace.
- 33:27In fact, I think about Erica Kirk because what she says, what
- 33:33I've seen, at least it really truly see seems like she
- 33:38believes what she says. And the only way there are
- 33:42people who are talking about her that saying, Oh well, she's not
- 33:46handling Charlie's death appropriately because of what
- 33:49she's doing. But perhaps it's because she
- 33:53really knows God because she really she has that comfort and
- 33:58knowing that this is only for a time and that she will be
- 34:02reunited with her husband in God's Kingdom.
- 34:06They surely I saw the fruit of the spirit in the way that they
- 34:11lived and the way that they spoke, the way they, you know,
- 34:15at least everything I saw. So I have not seen anything that
- 34:17didn't show that. So, and I'm just going to think
- 34:23the best of people until I'm proven otherwise.
- 34:25But I just think of her as an example.
- 34:28I mean, just what I've seen of her and what she said has shows
- 34:33evidence of God's Spirit working within her.
- 34:36A lot of times when people forgive murderers, they only do
- 34:42that through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 34:44People are of worldly people are always astounded by the fact
- 34:49because they aren't as mature in their faith probably and so they
- 34:54don't quite get it. And that person seems like an
- 34:57odd person because the way they handle things.
- 35:00But the way I see how she's responding is that unless she's
- 35:05completely faking at all, which I don't think she is, I'm giving
- 35:10her the benefit of the doubt. She is reacting as a true
- 35:15believer would react. She knows the future and anyway
- 35:21she doesn't have that fear of death or that view of death like
- 35:25the world, does she? She knows God.
- 35:29So then in let's see, OK, I forgot where I was.
- 35:40Submit yourself. I don't know where I was.
- 35:42OK, James 4 verse 7. Submit yourselves to God, then
- 35:49submit yourselves then to God. Resist the devil and he will
- 35:53flee from you. So I've said this a few times,
- 35:56didn't remember where it was from, but the book of James.
- 35:59So resist the devil and he will flee from you.
- 36:01We talked about that before. I've talked about this.
- 36:04This is Peter first. Peter 58.
- 36:06Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls
- 36:10around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
- 36:13We've talked about that and first John chapter 3, verse 8,
- 36:19the one who does what is sinful is of the devil because the
- 36:23devil has been sinning from the beginning.
- 36:26The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the
- 36:30devil's work. So this verse, I think a lot of
- 36:34Christians need to hear this one.
- 36:40Well, let's start with verse 7. We probably need to read the
- 36:42whole thing here. I I think I will because this is
- 36:46so important because I think a lot of Christians don't know
- 36:51this or don't remind themselves of this.
- 36:55So it says first John 3 verse one see what great love the
- 37:00Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of
- 37:04God and that is what we are. The reason the world does not
- 37:08know us is that it did not know Him.
- 37:12Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what will
- 37:15we be and what we will be has not yet been made known.
- 37:21But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him,
- 37:26for we shall see Him as He is. All who have this hope in him
- 37:33purify themselves just as He is pure.
- 37:36So there's a distinguishing factor in a true Christian and a
- 37:42false Christian or a hypocrite. Is someone purifying themselves?
- 37:49They're not perfect, but are they purifying themselves?
- 37:52Are you seeing a change? That's evidence of the Holy
- 37:55Spirit working in a person's life.
- 37:58Verse 4, Everyone who sins breaks the law.
- 38:02In fact, sin is lawlessness, but you know that he appeared so
- 38:10that he might take away our sins and in him is no sin.
- 38:15So Jesus appeared so he would take away our sins and in him.
- 38:19So if we are in Christ, there is no sin.
- 38:23No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.
- 38:28This is this is something that I just, I mean, some people I just
- 38:36love to say we are saved by grace and thank God for grace
- 38:41and which I agree with. That's all true.
- 38:44But what some people say it like is that they can just keep on
- 38:50sinning, that they're not concerned about their sin and
- 38:54and it seems like they have unrepentant sin in their life
- 38:58and they're just saying you're just forgetting about grace.
- 39:00Grace covers it all. I know there's a lot of people
- 39:03who think that grace is going to cover their sin when they
- 39:06haven't turned away from what God said is wrong, but they just
- 39:11keep throwing out grace. And to me that's a hypocritical
- 39:14Christian and people should be aware of that.
- 39:18So that does affect people who are seeking the Lord and then
- 39:21they're seeing people who are hypocrites and it is concerning.
- 39:26But like first, John 36 says, no one who lives in him keeps on
- 39:32sinning. No one who continues to sin has
- 39:36either seen him or known him. So that's saying you don't know
- 39:41Jesus, right? So then it says, dear children,
- 39:46do not let anyone lead you astray.
- 39:49The one who does what is righteous, just as He is right.
- 39:54The one who does what is right is right is righteous, just as
- 39:58he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful
- 40:02is of the devil because the devil has been sinning from the
- 40:06beginning. The reason the Son of God
- 40:09appeared was to destroy the devil's work.
- 40:12No one who is born of God or born again will continue to sin
- 40:19because God's seed remains in them.
- 40:22They cannot go on sinning because they have been born of
- 40:27God. This is how we know who the
- 40:31children of God are and who the children of the devil are.
- 40:35Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is
- 40:42anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
- 40:47Those are some really sobering words for all of us.
- 40:53And I think it's something that the churches just don't often
- 40:59teach. So makes me want to speak about
- 41:02it more because I don't want to see people perish.
- 41:05Honestly, that's the reason why because you go out, you get like
- 41:09this feel good message from churches and it's not preparing
- 41:13you to meet Jesus. And so us people have to pick up
- 41:19the gap that the church is failing on to to have, I mean,
- 41:26to point out the scripture that is not being talked about in
- 41:31church. So 1 John 310 this is how we
- 41:36know OK, I already read that Jude verse or Jude chapter one
- 41:41verse 9. But even the Angel Archangel
- 41:44Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of
- 41:47Moses, did not dare to condemn him for slander, but said the
- 41:52Lord rebuke you. So I guess that's something that
- 41:57we can learn. It's not by our power, it's
- 42:00through the Lord. The Lord will deal with Satan.
- 42:04So we always have to pray in the name of Jesus about Jesus has
- 42:09the authority and we don't need to try because it would probably
- 42:16not end well if we on our own tried to go against the devil.
- 42:22In fact, there were some people who, there's a story, I think in
- 42:25the book of Acts where these people saw what was happening
- 42:28about casting out demons. And so they decided they were
- 42:31going to go through the motions the same way the disciples of
- 42:33Jesus were doing it. Obviously they had the disciples
- 42:36had the power of the Holy Spirit with them.
- 42:39But these priests are somebody, I think they were like some
- 42:42official kind of people went out and were trying to do the same
- 42:45thing. And the demon spoke back and
- 42:47said, I know Paul and I know I don't remember the exact words,
- 42:52but he said, I know them, but who are you?
- 42:55And so then the demons attacked this guy and it says something
- 43:01like they stripped him naked and he ran out of the place like he
- 43:04fled the place. So we need to not think we are
- 43:09greater than what we are, but realize that any kind of power
- 43:13that we receive from God is through the name of Jesus,
- 43:17through the Holy Spirit. And it's only in the name and
- 43:20the authority of Jesus. It's not by our our own works,
- 43:23but it's through God. And I think that's important to
- 43:27know too. Revelation 2, verse 10.
- 43:31Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer.
- 43:34I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test
- 43:38you, and you will suffer persecution for 10 days.
- 43:42Be faithful, even to the point of death.
- 43:45I will give you life as your victor's crown.
- 43:49So that's a really harsh reality because it's in the Bible and
- 43:55it's a warning to church. I forgot which church it was a
- 43:58warning to. I'm going to go back to look at
- 44:00that. It's the Church of Smyrna.
- 44:04I know your afflictions and poverty, yet you are rich.
- 44:07I know about the slander of those who say they are Jews but
- 44:10are not, but they are the synagogue of the Satan.
- 44:13Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer.
- 44:15I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test
- 44:18you, and you will suffer persecution for 10 days.
- 44:20Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you
- 44:22life as your victor's crown. Whoever's ears, let them hear
- 44:25what the Spirit says to all the churches.
- 44:28The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second
- 44:32death. The second death is the burning
- 44:34lake of sulfur. And so we may have persecution.
- 44:39Some people will, it's, it's very clear that some people will
- 44:43have this persecution. And, and Jesus was telling John,
- 44:47and this is this message that he gave John was to the churches.
- 44:52And so it's two Christians that you need to know this and some
- 44:57of the Christians, maybe it's, I don't know, only God knows who
- 45:02is going to go through this. But we need to just know that,
- 45:08you know, getting put in prison is going to test us.
- 45:11And there may be persecution for 10 days.
- 45:14Would be interesting if somebody got into prison but they got out
- 45:16in 10 days, then you would know that was the devil that did
- 45:19that. But it says be faithful even to
- 45:22the point of death. Now that's a serious requirement
- 45:27and I will give you life. But then again, we have to know
- 45:29like that is death is a transition.
- 45:33It's a transition into the presence of God.
- 45:36So don't fear death. Know what comes after that
- 45:40transition. Revelation 12 verse 9 The great
- 45:45dragon was hurled down the ancient serpent called the Devil
- 45:48or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.
- 45:50He was hurled to earth and his angels with them.
- 45:52We talked about that before. Revelation 12/12 Therefore
- 45:56rejoice you heavens, and you who dwell in them, but woe to the
- 46:00earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you.
- 46:03He is filled with fury because he knows that his time is short.
- 46:08When the Satan gets cast out of heaven of the heavenly realms,
- 46:15God's presence and can't go back there anymore, then he certainly
- 46:20does some destruction. I don't know when I mean like he
- 46:25has always gone back and forth between heaven and earth.
- 46:28We see that from the book of Job.
- 46:29But at some point he is kicked out of heaven and is brought
- 46:35down to the earth. And I don't know there's, that's
- 46:40debatable with Bible biblical scholars on when that actually
- 46:47happens. And I, I'm not really sure that
- 46:51I feel that I understand. I kind of feel like it's the
- 46:58midpoint of the, the final week that Daniel talks about that he
- 47:05comes down. And there's also a part, I think
- 47:09it's in Revelation 12 where it talks about the stars falling
- 47:12from the sky. It which makes me think that it
- 47:17could perhaps be at the 6th seal in the Book of Revelation that
- 47:22Satan is cast out of heaven. And then at that point there is
- 47:26also like the wrath of God and there's that 3 1/2 years of, of
- 47:31really of the, the great tribulation and the wrath of
- 47:37God. But some of this we're only
- 47:40going to know in hindsight. So that's the best that I can
- 47:44conclude from what I've read so far.
- 47:48A Revelation 20, verse two, He seized the dragon, that ancient
- 47:51serpent who is the devil or Satan and bound him for 1000
- 47:55years. We talked about that in the
- 47:57prior one. This is the Angel, which may be
- 48:00Jesus, who has the keys to the abyss.
- 48:02And that's where Satan is bound for 1000 years.
- 48:07And then Revelation 20, verse 10.
- 48:10And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of
- 48:15burning sulfur where the beast and the false prophet had been
- 48:19thrown. They will be tormented day and
- 48:21night forever and ever. So that's the final placement of
- 48:26the devil. He gets thrown into the lake of
- 48:28burning sulfur. After that thousand years, he
- 48:31tries to rebel against God and is defeated.
- 48:34And that is the final placement of Satan.
- 48:38And Satan has read scripture. He knows scripture, he knows
- 48:41where his end is. And he's just trying to probably
- 48:44do as much destruction before he goes to where he's told to.
- 48:50I mean, where, where he has to go.
- 48:52And that's why it says, you know, when he's been hurled down
- 48:56to the earth, he was, he's furious.
- 49:00He has a lot of fury because he knows he doesn't have a whole
- 49:02lot of time left. And he's been going on since
- 49:05eternity affecting the earth and having some sort of reigning
- 49:10power over the earth. And it's all going to be taken
- 49:13away from him. And he, I mean, this is another
- 49:17one of you. You reap what you sow So Satan
- 49:21is trying to separate and destroy people.
- 49:24But look, in the end, what's going to happen to him is he's
- 49:27going to be destroyed. So we should, that's another
- 49:30thing to remember is just remember that we reap what we
- 49:33sow And, and it's so important to know God and to stay in the
- 49:40word. So that concludes the word
- 49:42searches for the word search for devil this time.
- 49:46So that's the end of Part 2 and the next recording is going to
- 49:51be back in the book of Ezekiel. But I just felt like these
- 49:55things when we talked about Tyre, we need to and how it
- 49:59really seems like he's talking about the king over Tyre is
- 50:02Satan. I really believe that and that
- 50:05we should recognize how Satan works, how Satan operates with
- 50:09the purpose in our minds that we can avoid some of this.
- 50:14And the way we ultimately avoid it is through the Holy Spirit,
- 50:19which is through Jesus. Jesus.
- 50:22There's power in the name of Jesus when we believe Jesus,
- 50:27when we accept His gift to us, His death on the cross, that he
- 50:33broke the power of death, and that He is free to give the Holy
- 50:39Spirit to whomever he wants. And so I haven't.
- 50:43By receiving the Holy Spirit, we become born again.
- 50:47There will be a changed life in a person when the Holy Spirit
- 50:50starts working in a person's life.
- 50:53And if no one has ever changed their life or gotten closer to
- 50:56God or starts reflecting God more than it, you really need to
- 51:01pray to God and and there should be some assurances.
- 51:05There are there's fruit of the Spirit that shows you know how
- 51:08the spirit working in somebody's life changes their life.
- 51:12That's found in Galatians chapter 5.
- 51:14There are also gifts of the Spirit and those are things that
- 51:19I forgot which Corinthians it's in.
- 51:22But you can probably search gifts of the Spirit and find it
- 51:24in Scripture because that will tell you also ways that you can
- 51:29recognize if somebody has the Holy Spirit, because when the
- 51:32Holy Spirit comes to a person, they will be given gifts as the
- 51:36Spirit decides, as the Spirit determines, the Holy Spirit
- 51:41determines. We don't choose, but the Holy
- 51:45Spirit decides what gift he wants to give each person.
- 51:48And that's the way it is. I mean, you can pray for more,
- 51:52but and he may give it, but he's also probably going to look at
- 51:55are we ready for other gifts are not.
- 51:58So anyway, that is just put your faith and trust and belief in
- 52:05Jesus and reconcile with God through repentance.
- 52:10Ask God for the whole ask Jesus for the Holy Spirit so that you
- 52:15can begin to have a transformed life and get rid of sin.
- 52:19Because if you try to do it on your own, that's not the way it
- 52:23works, will just fail and probably get frustrated with it.
- 52:27But with the Holy Spirit says you know, God makes the
- 52:31impossible possible and it's only the power of God that will
- 52:35do that. So if you haven't subscribed,
