  SPEAKER_00: Now, in the last episode, we started talking about the personal planets, which are the Sun, Moon, even though those aren't technically planets, and Mercury, Venus, and Mars.

  SPEAKER_00: And the reason that we started with those is because the personal planets or the inner planets have to do with you and your identity.

  SPEAKER_00: If you think about all of those little sayings that we often use to refer to ourselves as holistic, balanced beings, like say, mind, body, and spirit, or thinking, feeling, and doing, thoughts, feelings, actions, or

  SPEAKER_00: Now, we've covered the Sun and the Moon pretty thoroughly at this point, at least for now, so we don't need to do that again today.

  SPEAKER_00: If you haven't listened to the last episode, which was called Personal Planets, Pt 1, I highly recommend that you go back and do that before listening to this one.

  SPEAKER_00: We also talked about Mercury last week so I won't spend a ton of time there either but to set the tone for these three planets as kind of a triad I will just quickly remind you all that Mercury is the planet of logic and reason.

  SPEAKER_00: It's a very fast moving planet because it's the planet closest to the Sun so it changes signs about every two weeks or so and it completes one full revolution around the Sun in just 88 days.

  SPEAKER_00: The Earth takes 365 days as we all know so this is a very quick and agile planet.

  SPEAKER_00: Mercury is also about communication, so people with a well-aspected Mercury can have a way with words, or if Mercury in a person's chart is not well-aspected or has a lot of challenging aspects attached to it, it can signal difficulties of some kind or another in this area.

  SPEAKER_00: I also want to throw out there because I don't think I said this last time that because Mercury is so close to the Sun, it's never going to be more than 28 degrees away from the Sun in a natal chart.

  SPEAKER_00: So whatever your sun sign is, your Mercury sign can either be in the same sign as your sun, one sign ahead of your sun sign, or one sign behind your sun sign.

  SPEAKER_00: There are only three possibilities for your Mercury sign.

  SPEAKER_00: Your sun sign or one of the two signs adjacent to it.

  SPEAKER_00: Finally, the last thing I'll say about Mercury for today is that in the last episode I gave you a rundown of what Mercury can look like or how it tends to show up in each of the 12 signs.

  SPEAKER_00: Okay, that leaves us with Venus and Mars. I love doing these two together because, while they are very different, they can compliment each other so nicely. Having the ability to use Venus and Mars together, quite simply, ensures that we have the ability to live life in a way that is fulfilling for us. Venus, in a sense, creates what we want, and what we desire, while Mars gives us a vehicle for taking the actions that get us what we desire. So, in order to accomplish a goal, big or small, we need to use both Venus and Mars energy.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus is all about love, beauty, harmony, and creativity or creation.

  SPEAKER_00: In your natal chart, Venus shows you how you express affection, how you give and receive love, what types of things in life you do tend to really, really love and place a high value on because Venus is also about the things that you value.

  SPEAKER_00: and just to say this a little more simply Venus represents what you want ultimately so if you for example had Venus in your 11th house of friendship groups and communities

  SPEAKER_00: you could be someone who would find a lot of joy and fulfillment and a sense of prosperity through your friendships and the various communities you belong to when this part of your life is flourishing it's going to fill up your tank your heart will feel full and over time perhaps with age and practice you may be someone who becomes very capable of a lot of creation here

  SPEAKER_00: the 11th house can also represent the collective of humanity sometimes so it's also possible for Venus here to become a humanitarian of some sort and find a sense of beauty and fulfillment in connecting with very large groups or lifting up the collective somehow and in some cases for a few people out there not everyone

  SPEAKER_00: What parts of that house placement resonate with you?

  SPEAKER_00: And then look for the sign and we'll get into that momentarily.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus can only be up to 48 degrees away from the Sun at any given time.

  SPEAKER_00: That's the farthest it can go in either direction because of its ecliptic path around the Sun.

  SPEAKER_00: So in a birth chart, it can be in the same sign as your sun or up to two signs ahead of it or up to two signs behind it.

  SPEAKER_00: Mercury and Venus are kind of unique in this way in that they stay pretty close to the sun.

  SPEAKER_00: The rest of the planets can be in any sign of the zodiac in a birth chart regardless of what sign the sun is in.

  SPEAKER_00: It just depends on where in its ecliptic path it happens to be at that particular time.

  SPEAKER_00: So let's also talk about Mars because if Venus represents what you want or what you desire or what will bring you fulfillment then Mars represents how you go about getting it.

  SPEAKER_00: Are you very persistent or not so much?

  SPEAKER_00: It can tell us how and where you find courage and how courageous are you typically.

  SPEAKER_00: Competitiveness or lack thereof can come from our Mars placements.

  SPEAKER_00: A tendency toward anger or reactiveness or impulsiveness or lack thereof with any of those things can come from our Mars as well.

  SPEAKER_00: And finally, Mars also plays a large role in our sexual drive because that can also be about acting upon a desire.

  SPEAKER_00: So again, the house placement of this planet can show you where it is in your life that you are most inclined to apply your energy.

  SPEAKER_00: That is a part of your life that will make you feel motivated to do something instead of just, you know, sitting on the couch all day.

  SPEAKER_00: So if you had Mars in your fifth house of leisure and self-expression, for example,

  SPEAKER_00: then you're probably going to be someone who puts a lot of energy toward their hobbies or just towards having a lot of fun in general this could be having hobbies or fun activities that you're involved with and you spend tons of time on and you put a lot of focus on in your life or since sports can be a part of the fifth house it could indicate that someone is very athletic

  SPEAKER_00: This is a very different type of motivation for Mars.

  SPEAKER_00: Fun is not so much the point with this placement, but you know, being productive is, in a way, its own kind of fun for a Mars in the 6th house person.

  SPEAKER_00: So look at your house placements for Venus and for Mars and see if you can discern what part of your life you tend to see beauty in and what part of life motivates you to move.

  SPEAKER_00: Before you do, though, I just want to speak for a moment on the 12th house placements because people do tend to get confused about this one more often.

  SPEAKER_00: The 12th house is the house of solitude, spirituality, and completion.

  SPEAKER_00: and you know this house gets kind of a bad rap in traditional astrology or at least it used to I think that's changing now fortunately but it used to be seen as kind of a lonely or scary place kind of a fuzzy place I don't feel that way for the record so so many very successful people and even a lot of very famous people have prominent 12th house placements

  SPEAKER_00: but I think what can be challenging with a 12th house placement is that whatever is in the 12th house can be a little more hidden from you or a little bit harder to access or tease out so I said in the last episode that someone with a Mercury in the 12th house placement for instance

  SPEAKER_00: could find it difficult to express their thoughts or maybe they don't have so much of a way with words or they might just be shyer or maybe a more reluctant communicator or something and similarly Mars here could signal that someone struggles a little bit more with assertiveness or who struggles to integrate

  SPEAKER_00: I have this placement, by the way, and I can attest that this take feels pretty true.

  SPEAKER_00: I spent a great deal of the earlier part of my life struggling with assertiveness or a lack thereof.

  SPEAKER_00: It was something I really had to work on and learn how to do.

  SPEAKER_00: Now to use a different type of example, I have another relative with Mars in the 12th house and they don't struggle with assertiveness.

  SPEAKER_00: This person can be pretty assertive but they struggle to integrate other Mars qualities into their life.

  SPEAKER_00: But the good news is that with 12th house placements, you usually get better and better at it as the years go by.

  SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like you're just signing on for a set of life lessons around that thing with the intention of hopefully experiencing a lot of growth in that area.

  SPEAKER_00: It's a huge growth area for people, which is pretty beautiful, I think.

  SPEAKER_00: The other thing about 12th house placements is that it's often an indicator of deep levels of spirituality or creativity or undertakings involving a lot of compassion.

  SPEAKER_00: The 12th house is naturally ruled by the sign of Pisces and the planet Neptune, after all.

  SPEAKER_00: Even if that's not the sign you have ruling your 12th house and so there's all that spirit and creation energy there.

  SPEAKER_00: So you'll see a lot of creative people with 12th house placements or a lot of people who spend time doing things that involve their spiritual life.

  SPEAKER_00: in addition to people who probably do need a fair amount of alone time or solitude in order to do some of those things that doesn't mean they're going to be alone all the time it just means that they need to retreat once in a while to do their creative work or think or recharge their batteries

  SPEAKER_00: and again using myself as an example as someone with 12th house placements as I am speaking right now I am doing something alone I am by myself recording and I'm discussing a spiritual topic right I have always been drawn towards activities or studies involving spiritual topics of all sorts and I'm also creating something a podcast is a project and

  SPEAKER_00: so that's a lot of Mars in the 12th house stuff right there all wrapped into one activity and I'm not saying this to talk about myself in any way but it's more to say that 12th house placements are certainly not the boogeyman that people thought them to be decades ago in case any of you have heard stuff like that before

  SPEAKER_00: Okay, what I want to do next is give you a quick rundown on Venus and Mars in the 12 signs.

  SPEAKER_00: You'll remember probably from the last episode that the sign shows you the style, the personal and behavioral style with which a particular planet is going to use to carry out its role.

  SPEAKER_00: And what I'll do is just go through each sign and give you a brief description of both Venus and Mars in that sign.

  SPEAKER_00: Of course, we'll start with Aries.

  SPEAKER_00: Aries always goes first.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus in Aries is going to be probably very quick to go all in when there's something or someone that they desire.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus, remember, represents what we want, what we find beautiful or desirable.

  SPEAKER_00: And Aries is very assertive and proactive.

  SPEAKER_00: Mars actually rules the sign of Aries so not only is it right at home in this sign but it kind of gets to double down on Mars energy here.

  SPEAKER_00: This is a competitive person and an action-oriented person who is going to be very independent and wanting to take charge.

  SPEAKER_00: Now in Taurus, which is ruled by Venus, Venus is right at home and there's a nice extra dose of harmonious Venus energy.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus here is going to desire comfort and beauty and possibly abundant resources.

  SPEAKER_00: It's very sensual here and it wants to have all of the senses activated in a way that makes life feel beautiful it wants to see beautiful things it wants to hear beautiful music it wants to taste amazing food it wants things to smell nice it wants to enjoy a good massage

  SPEAKER_00: and Taurus is also very grounded and stable right so in relationships this is someone who really wants stability and they want partnerships that will last a long time typically Mars in Taurus is a bit more relaxed here than it might be in a lot of other signs

  SPEAKER_00: Someone with Mars in Taurus is probably going to take the slow and steady approach and use more persistence over time when going after a goal instead of just charging ahead full speed.

  SPEAKER_00: There may be a love of reading or even writing.

  SPEAKER_00: Maybe public speaking is a talent they have.

  SPEAKER_00: Or it can indicate someone alternatively who loves to socialize.

  SPEAKER_00: or towards the intellect you're combining the communicative nature of Gemini with the action orientation of Mars and sometimes that manifests as doing a lot of talking so it's very conversational possibly with Venus in Cancer you get a very affectionate person

  SPEAKER_00: This would be a sensitive person who loves to nurture people who finds beauty in caring for others and they really want to create a loving space for people they also crave a lot of intimacy in their relationships

  SPEAKER_00: Mars in Cancer often likes to take actions that are motivated by intuition because Cancer is such an intuitive sign and these folks may also apply their energy toward their home or their family or simply the people that they care about as opposed to applying their energy towards the other parts of their life like career or something like that it doesn't mean they're not going to do both it just means that they're going to put emphasis on

  SPEAKER_00: But Venus here wants tons of romance and grand gestures and attention and performance, I guess.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus is also pretty creative here, and you can quite literally find a lot of professional performers with Venus in Leo.

  SPEAKER_00: For Mars, having Mars and Leo is going to usually bring a lot of confidence and vibrance.

  SPEAKER_00: This is also a performer, and this would be a person who's going to go after they want and not be subtle about it.

  SPEAKER_00: It wants to be useful and helpful, and it pays attention to the little details of things in love and in life.

  SPEAKER_00: Someone with Venus in Virgo may have an appreciation for art, for example, and be able to really see all of the tiny details of a painting that the average person wouldn't notice, like brush strokes or the use of color.

  SPEAKER_00: you could have a book editor with this placement and they are really good at refining the work removing words that aren't quite right and replacing them with other words you know with using a lot of great care and precision in order to make something more beautiful than it was before a decorator or a designer could use this placement

  SPEAKER_00: The energies are a bit conflicting since Scorpio is ruled by Mars, but there is a lot of sexual magnetism with this placement.

  SPEAKER_00: and it wants to have a good intellectual rapport with people as a form of connection Mars in Aquarius makes a really good scientist it wants to exert itself intellectually and put its thoughts and its data and its new ways of thinking out into the world finally we have Pisces

  SPEAKER_00: This sign makes Venus even more loving and creative than it usually is, which is saying a lot for Venus already.
