- 0:01When people become totally immersed in something, they
- 0:04concentrate naturally all their energies and focus in that
- 0:09direction without seeming effort and experience the joy of the
- 0:14process. We can observe this in children
- 0:17at play. They become the act of play and
- 0:21don't concern themselves with hunger, thirst, time of day,
- 0:25chores or homework, or anything other than what is occupying
- 0:30them at the moment. We see this when an artist
- 0:34creates a beautiful piece of music or a work of art, when a
- 0:38scientist or mathematician becomes so deeply engrossed in
- 0:41what they are doing that they totally forget themselves.
- 0:47The simplest method is thus to focus the energy with enthusiasm
- 0:51and joy. This may not carry one
- 0:54constantly, as there are moments when the impulse recedes.
- 0:59It is at these moments that the effort, the discipline, becomes
- 1:03valuable so that one is carried through and beyond.
- 1:07The dry spells, the doubts, the hesitations, the dark night of
- 1:12the soul until the inspiration is reignited.
- 1:18In reality, there's a process that involves both of these
- 1:21aspects to reach the envisioned goal.
- 1:24Enthusiasm without any power of discipline can lead to
- 1:28depression and hopelessness when it withdraws.
- 1:32Discipline without enthusiasm can be a hard and rigid path
- 1:36that becomes brittle and breaks under intense pressure.
- 1:42When we begin to realize that we stand at the brink of a
- 1:45precipice and that we have to choose life or death, progress
- 1:51or failure, growth or dissolution, then we get the
- 1:56core motivation. To the extent we can follow the
- 2:00way of attraction for the beauty and harmony that is waiting to
- 2:03be birthed in US and in our world, then we can meet all
- 2:07resistance, all obstacles with a calm and cheerful demeanor.
- 2:13To the extent that we feel the pressure without the act of
- 2:16inspiration, we have to remind ourselves of the choice and the
- 2:21opportunity before us, the mother writes.
- 2:25Quote People sleep, They forget. They take life easy.
- 2:32They forget. Forget all the time.
- 2:36But if we could remember that we are at an exceptional hour, a
- 2:40unique time, that we have this immense good fortune, this
- 2:45invaluable privilege of being present at the birth of a new
- 2:49world, we could easily get rid of everything that impedes and
- 2:54hinders our progress. So the most important thing, it
- 2:59seems, is to remember this fact even when one doesn't have the
- 3:04tangible experience, to have the certainty of it and faith in it.
- 3:09To remember always, to recall it constantly.
- 3:13To go to sleep with this idea, to wake up with this perception,
- 3:19to do all that one does with this great truth as the
- 3:22background, as a constant support, this great truth.
- 3:27They are that we are witnessing the birth of a new world.
- 3:32We can participate in it. We can become this new world.
- 3:37And truly, when one has such a marvelous opportunity, one
- 3:42should be ready to give up everything for its sake.
