- 0:00Speaker 1: What is up, fam?
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Steep Stuff Podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I am your host, james Lauriello, and guys, I wasn't planning on doing this, but I'm a man of the people and the people have spoken.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm bringing to you a very special race preview episode for this week for the upcoming Telluride Mountain Run 40 mile, 13 mile and 24 mile race.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I am so excited to bring you guys, uh, this preview episode.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Originally I was a little apprehensive.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I was going to do it just because I have so many friends, um, in the race that I was like, ah, I feel kind of grimy and a little weird picking against other people or these people, or this person and that person.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But you know what, you're all my, you're all my people.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So it is what it is.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Um, we're not picking it against or for anybody.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We're just going to kind of give a breakdown on the race, talk about some of the favorites, talk about some of the contenders, um, and kind of go from there.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I think it's more interesting, um, and logical, and I think you guys will get more information out of it, um it, just by learning more about this race.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It originated as something really small and now it's kind of grown into something pretty big.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's a pretty sizable race in Western Colorado, in the San Juans, which is exciting for me.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I love seeing races like this develop, especially on the sub-ultra side, and this one's very special because it kind of provides an ultra distance and then two sub-ult ultra distances, so kind of breaks things up a little bit and makes it a little more fun.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So the race itself is going to be taking place this Saturday, august 24th, 2024.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Um, like I said, we've got three courses We've got a 40 mile course, a 25, four mile course and the 13 mile course.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Um, I think the race has gotten a lot of, uh, a lot of attention this year.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Um, I would say probably pretty notably, uh, because of the new title sponsor and Arc'teryx um, big brands has come in and sponsored this race.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Um, and it's nice.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We've got a lot more elite talent coming out.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It seems like it's going to be a bigger race than in previous years.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Um, so it should be a fun iteration and hopefully the start of something really special there.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So big shout out to them, yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 1: So let's dive into it.
- 2:11Speaker 1: We could talk about some storylines and talk about some things I know last year, just for information wise.
- 2:16Speaker 1: We're going to see what happens with the weather this year.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I know last year the 40 mile race was called due to, and, coincidentally, friend of the podcast, and your boy, grandpa net, took home the dub of the 40 mile.
- 2:28Speaker 1: A big shout out to grandpa net.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We're going to be having him on, or he already came on, sorry.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Um, his episode is actually going to be dropping in two weeks, so keep a lookout for that, um.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So, yeah, let's talk storylines, um, for this, for these races.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Um, first one is definitely going to be weather.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Um, the currently is weather is not looking super hot, um, and when I say hot, like it's not looking great, um, until you're right, it's going to be like a higher 68.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Seems like a 50% chance, as of today that we're recording this, which is Tuesday, the 20th, so 50% chance of thunderstorms, um, or we're going to see another rain out for the 40 miler, maybe.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Um, we're going to see.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I mean, I think the biggest thing here, um, especially because this is a, not a beginner, this is a very high Alpine, very dangerous race.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Um, I think a big thing that's going to be on the minds of everyone in the race directors is going to be runner safety.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So it's going to be interesting to see um how this meshes with the um, with the weather.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Um, yeah, it could be.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Could be another thunder, stormy, nasty day um, in the San Juan.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So hopefully it's not the case.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Hopefully it turns into a bluebird day and everybody can get out there and uh and and throw down.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Should be, should be fun to follow along.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Um, yeah, like I said, we've got an amazing elite field um, or just a lot of, like, well-known athletes coming out to this race.
- 3:43Speaker 1: On the 40 mile we've got some heavy hitters.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You're looking at the likes of Mr Nick Corey, brother of Jamil, many time a hard rock finisher, probably several times in the top 10.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I couldn't even tell you.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's good to show you how much I know about ultra.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Also, colorado Springs local and crusher, mr Dan Metzger, is going to be out there throwing down.
- 4:05Speaker 1: You're going to have Lindsay McDonald, the pride of Flagstaff, arizona.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You might know her from some of the Broken Arrow live streams.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Lindsay's a crusher.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Hannah Green is also on the start list.
- 4:16Speaker 1: If you guys don't know that name, hannah is an absolute fucking legend.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Very well known for her FKT on the center to crystal range.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Um, also well known for I think it was a podium finish at hard rock a few years back in 2022.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Um, I couldn't find any data on her past 2022 from a race perspective.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I do have an idea now that she's running with normal um or for normal, so shout out to her Um, definitely.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Look look at Hannah as one of the favorites.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think Hannah's absolute crusher and uh should do very, very well and um, this would be a fun race to follow along.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Um, hannah green.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Um.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Also, mr Anthony Lee, the pride of Boulder, colorado, is going to be on the start line as well.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Arc'teryx, colorado athlete.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Um, I know he's excited to get out here and throw down as well.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So the 40 mile is going to be a stacked race.
- 5:10Speaker 1: It's going to be um.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We'll get into some predictions and breakdowns in a little bit, but it's definitely going to be fun to see, uh, what shakes out in the 40 miler.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Uh, talking about the 24 mile, I think the 24 miler is the most competitive distance on the men's side.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Um, just a bananas, bananas, some like world-class athletes out there.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Um, a little birdie told me and I think it's now.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It's been officially verified um, not on ultra sign up yet, but he will be in the races None other than um world-class athlete, mr Cam Smith.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Um ski mountaineering legends pop probably possibly an Olympian in 2026.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Um one of the best trail runners in America.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Um one of the best climbers in America.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Um Kim Smith is legit dude Um so very excited to have him out there running the 24 miler.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Um also um one of the better, if not one of the best, climbers.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Um as well one of the best athletes in Colorado, I'd argue.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Um back from injury.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Mr Ryan Becker.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You might know that name.
- 6:12Speaker 1: He's a telluride local Um and very often do you hear him on live streams like broken arrow and like the VK and the 23 K?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Um.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Ryan is a very stout athlete and uh it's going to be fun to see him throw down with the Lexi cam this year.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Um should be a fun.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I know they've had some battles in the in the past um at the likes of like the right and broken arrow, so should be fun to see this play out in the mountains of Telluride, especially because this is Ryan kind of Ryan's backyard Um in a lot of ways.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Uh, we're also going to be seeing the likes of Tate night um Boulder, colorado local.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Um the FKT guy, and do not slack on or do not like, sit on Tate.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Tate is legit Um, very, very solid runner.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Um.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Also, uh, jackson Cole, tell me to keep a lookout for Mr Simon Kearns.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Um, that is a name you guys will probably hear be hearing more of soon.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Um, very solid results.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Simon is on the start list of this race race.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Um, some great finishes at like meet the Minotaur.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So on the sky racing series, uh, or world sky racing series, I should say Simon is legit and someone to be keeping an eye out on.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Um.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Finally, my boy um Arc'teryx athlete, um good friend of mine and one of my training partners, mr Brad Barrett, will be out there.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Um, brad recently set the FKT on sunshine and red cloud.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Um, it's one of his training runs.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Brad's legit Brad is fit.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Um, we's one of his training runs.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Brad's legit practice fit.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Um, we're going to see what Brad can do.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Baby Um.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Also, zach Russell.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Keep a lookout for Zach Russell.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Um, he's a uh.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Um, what's the name of that town?
- 7:47Speaker 1: Cor?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Uh, carbondale, jesus Christ Carbondale.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so he's a Carbondale native trains in and out Carbondale, super fit and elite athlete.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Um.
- 8:04Speaker 1: On the women's side, keep a lookout for Lindsay Allison.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think Lindsay, um is going to have herself a day another.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Tell your ride local.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Um, also, keep a lookout for, uh, isabel Pujols.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We'll we'll talk about them as we get into um predictions and things like that, but keep a lookout for that name.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Um, and, as well as, on the women's side, miss Alex Fleming worth.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Uh.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Moving onto the 13 mile Um, I'm not going to lie, I think the 13 mile men's race is okay, um, but, like dude, the 13 mile women's race is bananas stacked.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I am so excited to follow the women's race.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Um, the, the women's side of this race is bananas stacked.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I am so excited to follow the women's race.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Um, the, the women's side of this race is just going to be just like out of this world.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Um, we're talking.
- 8:42Speaker 1: All right, just hear me out here.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Okay, we've got Jenny Yeaman, colorado Springs local.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Just had her on the podcast.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Um, she is the Kendall mountain run champ.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Um, up and over 10 K champion.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Top 10 at speed goat, she's a beast.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Okay, jenny will be out there.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Meg cook is going to be out there.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Meg is another crusher.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Okay, 13 mile champion at the telluride mountain run in 2023.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Um, just like a deadly good downhill runner.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Um, she raced about marathon this year and had a great result.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Um, just just had like, just stacking, stacking results.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Okay, we also have Chrissy Lofgren, another Colorado Springs local.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Chrissy is the I believe it's the Leadville half marathon champion in 2024.
- 9:25Speaker 1: So she has wheels, bro, absolute wheels.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Also, keep a lookout for Courtney Barnes, heidi Nadeau and Emma.
- 9:33Speaker 1: So, jude, emma just got.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I think it was fifth or 11th.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Uh, man, I got to do better research.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Um, at Kendall mountain run, I think it was fifth, I'm pretty sure it was fifth.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Um, no, it was 11th.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I lied it was 11th.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Um, so, yeah, keep a lookout for these ladies.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Um, no, I lied again, it was fifth.
- 9:50Speaker 1: God damn it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Um, keep a lookout for these ladies.
- 9:52Speaker 1: The women's side of this race is just looking so amazing.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I think if you're um in, tell your ride.
- 9:58Speaker 1: If you're spectating any race, I think the 13 mile on the women's side is the one to check out, in my opinion.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I just think it's going to be, um, it's going to be knocked down, dragged down, uh, just just bananas, um.
- 10:10Speaker 1: On the men's side, uh, jacob Dewey and Collieron were the two men that kind of stuck out to me.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Uh, jacob Dewey is a beast.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Western Colorado alum, uh, gunnison boy and just super fit, very elite.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Um, and Collier Kempton, uh, another great runner.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Uh, popped onto the scene last year and took second place at the 13 miler.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so pretty cool, not too bad.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So it's kind of a breakdown of the three races, of some of the news lines and uh, just coming to some of the information that we've got going on there, uh, let's talk stats for the races.
- 10:42Speaker 1: So the 40 miler is going to be a 5.00 AM start.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Um, guess what?
- 10:47Speaker 1: It's 40 miles, which is also 64 K uh, with about 14,000 feet of vert.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Um, it goes over Ajax peak, which is a 13 or twice feet of vert.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Um, it goes over Ajax peak, which is a 13 or twice.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Um, it's a little bit more.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I mean, this is just my, my opinion.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I'm a sub ultra guy, so ultra sometimes to me don't make sense.
- 11:06Speaker 1: It's a little bit of a contrived course, like I felt like the 24 miler is a much more like logical course.
- 11:10Speaker 1: 40 miler seems a little contrived.
- 11:12Speaker 1: If you don't like that and you're, you're pissed about that, I don't know what to tell you.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I mean, it is what it is.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Maybe figure out a new course, I don't know.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Uh, the 24 miler five, 30 AM star, I think the 24, other than the women's race in the 13 mile.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I think the 24 mile men's race is going to be one to follow and it's going to be just a knockdown, drag down brawl.
- 11:31Speaker 1: It's going to be really fun.
- 11:33Speaker 1: You're going to be seeing Ryan Becker, you're going to be seeing Cam Smith and Tate Simon Kearns.
- 11:40Speaker 1: You're going to be seeing these boys throwing down.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It's going to be hot pacing.
- 11:43Speaker 1: People are going to blow up.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It's going to be amazing.
- 11:45Speaker 1: It's going to be fun to follow.
- 11:47Speaker 1: 5.30 AM start, which is just so early.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Why do we do this?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Listen, I thought that the greatest thing about sub ultra was that we started like 10 and then we're done in like two hours.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Um, this is obviously a much longer race.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Um starts at five.
- 12:00Speaker 1: 30 is 24 miles, 38 K, 9,000 feet of vertical, really legit course.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Um, this one does go over Ajax as well.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Um, so it goes over 13,000 feet.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Um, it's a very long course, like, it's just a very logical loop, but just really long, really brutal, really long.
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's going to be grindy.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It's going to be tough.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Yeah, should be, should be very fun to follow along.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And then the 13 miler, which is more my jam 21 K starts at 8 AM, which is a normal time for a race to start.
- 12:31Speaker 1: It's got 4,500 feet of vertical, which is pretty solid for a half marathon.
- 12:35Speaker 1: That's not bad at all.
- 12:36Speaker 1: That's good.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Climbing Um and actually ran the course before Um and the high point is about 12,900 feet, a beautiful high point of the course.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You get on these like dope stairs, um, there's some technical downhill to it.
- 12:49Speaker 1: There's a lot of ski roads, very steep ski ascending Um.
- 12:53Speaker 1: It's.
- 12:54Speaker 1: It's really fun, it's a really.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I say the 13 miler is probably my favorite out of the courses.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so pretty dope.
- 13:03Speaker 1: All right, guys, let's talk predictions.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I'm going to start with the 40 miler women.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I'm going to go from first to third.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Now here's the deal as we kind of go through the distances, this gets less and less clear to me, especially as I did my analysis and tried to like break down different person versus person and this, that and the other.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Plus, I know a lot of these people.
- 13:22Speaker 1: A lot of them are my friends and acquaintances, so I'm not trying to make any enemies here.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So I'm going to keep this kind of neutral a little bit, but I will pick some people.
- 13:32Speaker 1: That, I think, are more clear choices for the dub or on the podium and we'll go from there.
- 13:38Speaker 1: So, in the 40 miler, I think, in the 40 mile, I think, for the women, I think Lindsay McDonald is going to take the win, and the reason I think that is because she's had such a great track record at races like broken arrow.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Um, she knows how to race against top tier competition.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think, um, and this is nothing against the competitors, I think this, this race itself, is a little bit less competition wise.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Um, it's a little bit longer of a race figure like a broken arrow.
- 14:02Speaker 1: 46 K is like a marathon distance.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You attack on an extra, you know a dozen miles and you've got.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You've got.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You know a little, a little bit more than that and you got yourself 40 milers.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Um, this is also a much higher race.
- 14:14Speaker 1: So it'd be interesting to see how someone from Flagstaff fares.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Um, it's going to be interesting.
- 14:20Speaker 1: We'll see what happens.
- 14:21Speaker 1: But I, I could see someone like Lindsay McDonald taking the job.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Um, fitness does matter.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Fitness fitness speaks volume volumes.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Um, and second place, I could see someone like Alexandra Bronca.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Um, alexandra, really stud runner.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Uh, very, very solid.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Um, a lot of these.
- 14:37Speaker 1: It seems like a lot of these athletes, especially on the women's side.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Um, there was a lot of crossover between people that raced the San Juan so it's just 50 miler this year and a lot of crossover between people that raced the San Juan Solstice 50 miler this year and a lot of people kind of came over and are doing Telluride as well.
- 14:51Speaker 1: So I know she had a kind of a good result at the San Juan Solstice and then in the third place I'm going to put none other than Hannah Green.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Like I said, I think Hannah Green like an absolute legend.
- 15:03Speaker 1: For those of you who don't know who Hannah Green is, you absolutely should Really interesting Instagram follow, lots of various static photos.
- 15:10Speaker 1: But even more importantly, um, it's what she's contributed to the sport.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Um, like her Sanger to Christo uh, she has the Sanger to Christo range FKT.
- 15:19Speaker 1: It's this, this beautiful range in Colorado.
- 15:23Speaker 1: If you're not familiar with it, you should check it out.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Um, and she has the overall I think I believe the overall unsupported women's FKT.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I've got to look into that to make sure that's right.
- 15:31Speaker 1: But um does have the FKT for singer Chris or range.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Um has had a third place finish at hard rock.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So she's a hard rocker, she knows how to suffer Um, and I think she's a definitely a world-class athlete.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So I'd say Hannah Green in third, on the men's side, yeah, this is going to be interesting.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:49Speaker 1: My guess is that I see some sort of knockdown, drag down battle between Nick Corey and Dan Metzger.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Remember, nick Corey lives in Phoenix, so I don't know how adapted to the altitude he is.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He's always really good, like deadly good.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I don't know how adapted to the altitude he is, he's always really good.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Um, like deadly good.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Um, I don't know how he does in something a little bit like less than a hundred milers is a 40 miler.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I think Dan probably has the wheels to get rid of them.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Um, but I don't know.
- 16:17Speaker 1: So I I don't know I'm going to have to say Dan Metzger takes the dub Um, but it's going to be a very tight battle between him and Nick, cordy Corey and Jack Daly.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I'd say those are my three dudes that ended up on the podium.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Um could be any combination of those three, but that's what I would assume or guess.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so that's what I've got for the 40 miler.
- 16:38Speaker 1: As you could tell, I am just so good at picking ultra results, not.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Um.
- 16:42Speaker 1: All right, 24 miler more of my jam.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Uh, let's talk ladies first.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Um.
- 16:48Speaker 1: In first place, I am going to go with Lindsay Allison.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I think Lindsay um has a substantial track record.
- 16:54Speaker 1: She lives in Telluride, um.
- 16:56Speaker 1: You can look to her other results as a great indicator.
- 16:58Speaker 1: She's done really good at races like broken arrow Um.
- 17:01Speaker 1: She's done really good at not just the 46 K, but she's done the triple crown before and has won the triple crown.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I think she's won it.
- 17:07Speaker 1: One in her got second Um.
- 17:09Speaker 1: She's been out there on quite a few uh, quite a few podiums, um, and it's just a very stout athlete, so I could see her definitely doing very well at this race.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Plus, she lives in Telluride and can train on the course whenever she wants.
- 17:20Speaker 1: So I would imagine if I lived there, that's what I would do.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Um.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And second place, I'm going to go with Isabel pool hosts.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Um.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Isabel, definitely forced to look out for took second at this race in 2023, very legit athlete, um.
- 17:34Speaker 1: And in third place was Lauren Kree.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I'm going to go with took 11th at Kendall mountain run this year on the lady side.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Um, very stout runner.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Um.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd say that's what I've got for the ladies in the 24 mile.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Uh, moving on to the 24 mile men, um, I really don't know.
- 17:52Speaker 1: This one's really hard because there's just like so many good stud athletes in this.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to say first place is either gonna be cam smith or ryan becker.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I would lean more towards cam smith, cause cam is probably a little more fresh, um, although Ryan has.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I think his last race was speed goat back in July.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Ryan's going to be fresh too.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Camp seems motivated.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Cam also has a giant block of races.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Um, I don't know what Ryan's schedule looks like, but Cam's going to be doing what seems like TMR, tmr, the Grand Traverse bike ride, the ruts and then Pike's Peak.
- 18:31Speaker 1: So I don't know what he's thinking.
- 18:33Speaker 1: As far as maybe some preservation, I know Cam goes super hard and he's one of the best athletes we've got, so I don't know it's going to be interesting.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Like I said, something between Ryan Becker and Cam Smith.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I would put Simon Kearns and Tate Knight in the battle for a third place.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Um, I really don't know how that's going to shake out, and I am going to put my boy, brad Barrett, somewhere in the top 10.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Um, I think he he sneaks himself into into the top 10.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I think he'll have himself a day Um, that's what I've got for the men.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Moving on to the 13 miler um, 13 miler women, I, like I said before, I just I don't know.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Like I said, this is one of the more exciting Colorado sub ultra women's races that I've followed in a long time.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Or like discussed Um, I don't know.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I've got somewhere between I think Jenny Yemen wins, and the only reason I say that is because I think Jenny, out of all these ladies, while they're all so good, if Jenny has herself not the best day, I think any one of these ladies are going to sneak in and take the dub.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I think Jenny wins because I want to say she's the completest set of everyone from a climbing perspective, from a descending perspective.
- 19:41Speaker 1: You, when you're on a heater, you never walk away from heater and she's been on a heater, I mean top 10 at speed goat.
- 19:51Speaker 1: She wins Kendall Um and she wins the up and over 10 K.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So she's kind of undefeated in Colorado right now.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Um for 2024.
- 19:55Speaker 1: So we'll see.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I think Jenny could take the dub.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I do have Meg cook in second um.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Deadly downhill skills.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Um, amazing athlete knows how to fight strong one last year, so she knows the course very well.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I could.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It's hard for me to say you know how I mean.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Any one of these could be first or second.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I also have chrissy lofgren in the mix, could very well win.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Courtney barnes in the mix very what, could very well win.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And then I also have heidi nadau on the start list.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Um, she took 13th at way too cool in 2022.
- 20:29Speaker 1: If you guys are familiar with way too cool, yes, it is an ultra race, it's a 50 K, but it is such a fast race.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I mean you're talking like some of the fastest marathoners.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Go out there and throw down.
- 20:38Speaker 1: It is such a fast course.
- 20:39Speaker 1: So if you're racing that and getting in the top 20 men or women's side, um are very legit and you've got wheels.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So I don't know, we could throw a Heidi Nadeau in there as a dark horse.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I really don't know.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I guess I think the women's race is just going to be so much fun to follow.
- 20:56Speaker 1: On the men's side, another, I don't know.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I mean I can tell you right now I think Jacob Dewey is going to win.
- 21:01Speaker 1: That's just me.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think that's what's going to happen.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I think he's the best athlete out there.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Uh, and Collier Kempton, who took second in 2023.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Uh, if he knows the course he took second in 2023, I could see him getting second in 2024, um, or on the podium in 2024.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I didn't see a lot of other names that like, or like manageable, serious results.
- 21:19Speaker 1: That like spoke to me on the men's side of the 13 miler.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so that's kind of that's what my take was and kind of how I felt.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Um, yeah, guys, I hope you liked this one.
