Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: All right, let's talk a little bit about fasting, what's happening out there in the world.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: And also some of these weight loss drugs, they uh they look like they're they look like they're working out for a lot of people.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Um some of the things that you might read pertaining to them are going to talk about muscle loss.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: But then it looks like that might have been solved depending on which one you're going to take.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: So make sure you get full information before you start injecting anything into you.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I know that years ago, uh back when I was 51-ish, almost 52, I started testosterone therapy.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: That was like a major game changer in my life.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: When you have low hormones in that regard, especially that one, and you go out and you have that looked at, and especially if you're in your 50s or older, there really is a game changer.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It really just changes all the things because you go out and you really want to work out, you want to push that iron.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And then you change other areas of your life.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: One of the biggest things that really helped was the fasting, and I still do that.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I'll still do, depending on where I go in body weight, I'll still take, you know, two or three days off of eating.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: In some cases, more.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: It just depends on what I'm doing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: But I don't have to be concerned about the muscle loss with that.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: In my world, a couple different reasons.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: But first and foremost, whenever you fast for a while, what ends up happening is your body does secrete growth hormone to be able to protect that muscle.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: But muscle is also a necessary tissue.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Your body was basically made to store body fat in the times that we weren't eating.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: But when don't we eat anymore?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Well, we eat all the time as human beings.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: We're feeding like cattle, we're grazing most of the day.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: If you have food around your house, you might find yourself walking around and taking a piece of this and a piece of that.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And then you think to yourself, you know, it's it's not much.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I'm really not eating much.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And then you might sit down and have, you know, two or three regular-sized meals.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: But you're never giving any kind of a break to your body.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: You're just consistently feeding throughout the day.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And it's basically autopilot, it's habit.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: You're not even thinking about it.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: It's not something that you're uh contemplating, but you're wondering why you put on in college the freshman 20, and then all of a sudden you're now 40, 50, 60 pounds fatter than you need to be, and you're you don't see any relief in sight.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And maybe it's starting to show, maybe when you're tying your shoes, maybe you've gone out and gotten several different size varieties of clothing over the last 10, 15, 20 years, and maybe it's time that you want to stop it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Maybe you should ask yourself that question.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Maybe you should take some time off in eating.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Can you do it?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Is it any is it possible for you?
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: If you're taking medicines and pills, be careful with that because sometimes some, if you read the bottles, they require food to go through properly, not create any issue when they hit your digestive tract.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: So if you're taking pills, you definitely want to talk to your doctor.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: But I think we can all pretty much agree on the fact that maybe missing a meal or two wouldn't hurt, giving yourselves longer time between feeding.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And that'll also keep your insulin down, so you're not going to store as much food, but it's also going to depend on your caloric content.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: If you happen to take a couple meals off and then go and you're going to, let's say, let's say you're going to jump into eating one meal a day, and that one meal is 5,000 calories.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Well, you're not doing yourself any good favor.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: And then when you're done playing around with that, all of a sudden those other meals might be close to that number as well.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: You're just going to get fatter and fatter and fatter.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Taking a little bit of time off wouldn't hurt, but again, talk to your doctor and see what that's all about and see if it works for you.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Now, as far as the weight loss drugs we're talking about, I was talking to a cat yesterday, and you know, he was mentioning to me how he wants to do it, but he's scared of it, and he he's weighing plus 550 pounds.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: And, you know, he's got all of these horrible medical conditions that accompany that kind of fat.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And he said, I just don't know if I can do it.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And I said, Well, what's the biggest problem, Raul?
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: He said, Well, it's the injection.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, if that's the only thing holding you back, I'm sure that it's not going to be very painful in where they put it.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And I believe most of these are injected into subcutaneous tissue, so they're going to be injecting it into belly fat.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And the needle is very, very small.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So I don't know if that would be as much of a concern as what kind of damage will this medicine cause me over time.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Has there been enough study and research done to make sure it's at least going to leave me better off than I am now?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And 550 pounds, I mean, you peel off 200 of that, you're going to change a lot of the markers in your body, going to change a lot of your heart health.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: A lot of that stuff's going to get, I mean, hugely better.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Is anything this medicine could cause, is it as bad as 550 pounds?
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: And but then what happens?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So do you take it forever?
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Or after seven or eight months when you've dropped, you know, a lot of fat, do you stop?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And then what happens to your eating?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Do you go back to the way that you used to eat?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Because it really does a good job at suppressing appetite, slowing, I guess, the digestive system.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And don't quote me on all of this.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: But it sounds like that's kind of what it does because a lot of people aren't eating as much.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And I think I saw a show the other day.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: They were talking about some of the fast food change having issues making money now because people just aren't eating as much.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: So when they go there, how they used to eat, you know, the beginning meal, then maybe a lot of appetizer, and then the main meal, and then dessert, and then maybe something extra.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: In these cases, they're not seeing that.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: So people are starting to lose in their pocketbook because people aren't just eating as much as they used to.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Are you going to be able to continue that after you've dropped some major amount of weight?
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: And then also, like I mentioned a little bit before, the muscle loss is something to be aware of.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I don't believe, and please, I'm not a doctor.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Talk to your doctor.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: But from what I think, I don't believe it just goes after muscle just because of the peptide or the drug that they inject.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: I believe it probably goes after the muscle because of some other change where the people aren't even using their muscle.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: So I think muscle preservation being important for all of us, even if you're super obese, but actually fighting not just the fat you have on your skeleton, but actually engaging that muscle in some way throughout the week multiple times.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: And even though you don't see it, it's under there, use it a little bit.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Do some curls, do some kind of chest movement, do some kind of shoulder movement, do some kind of squatting movement, do some kind of bending over and standing up movement.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: But again, you know, it depends on your physical size.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: But I've seen some remarkably large people pull these types of things off.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: That's kind of something good to start, even if you really, you know, you're incredibly happy at 600 pounds.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: But it would be good to maybe start moving around a little bit and figuring, you know, how that feels.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Yes, you're gonna be sore.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: You're gonna wish that uh you weren't amongst the living, you're gonna be so sore.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: But over time that will go away.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: You give it a couple weeks, just don't stop, just don't give up.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Talk to your doctor.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Of course, I don't want anybody out there hurting themselves.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: But it's not a bad idea to start becoming active in the lifting the heavier things and putting them down repeatedly.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: World.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: You might want to look into that.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: And if you're not somebody that's, you know, almost bedridden to this point, then, and even bedridden, you can start some kind of movements with little dumbbells, even just moving your arms.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: They are so large if you're bedridden.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Your legs are so large, your feet, move them around, move them from side to side.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Do just do enough where you can't move anymore.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of like a bodybuilder or somebody building for muscle would go to failure.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And you get tired and then rest a little bit and do it again.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: But again, you're going to be so incredibly sore, it's going to be remarkable, but that will go away in time and you'll just start to get stronger.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's the trick.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: It's all about immersing yourself into the world, into finding out things that have worked for other people, and then potentially adopting some of those strategies.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I'll never forget a cat was watching one of my shows and I was talking about not, we don't deserve a cheat meal.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: And, you know, when I was 365 pounds, when people would talk to me, especially when I, let's say, I wiped out half of that, half of the total weight loss, got somewhere in the 270s and 280s.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Um, some of the people would say, Well, you you deserve it.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: You've you've done so good, Connor.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: You deserve a cheat meal.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And it was at that time that that was always my fall-off point.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: That was always when I started screwing up because when I started thinking I deserve it, and I started eating it, and then I would move through and continue to eat it, and then I would start putting on a lot of fat again because I would revert back to those old habits of eating on autopilot, like I talked about before, grazing all day, always having God.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I remember I always used to have chips in the house.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: I don't touch that stuff.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I just don't eat it.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: I eat eggs, meat, and fish.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: That's what I eat.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And I'll put condiments and not ketchup, of course, but spices, uh, mustard has become a new friend to me.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I'll eat you know, eggs basically hard-boiled, meats uh cooked on the on the stove, maybe hamburger, chicken, turkey, these things, but with a lot mixed in, a lot of onions, a lot of parsley, a lot of cilantro.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Um, we do a lot of that great eating, and that's really taken me a lot further than you know being dependent on pizza and chips and these other sorts of things.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: It's really up to you.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: At some point, you'll hear something that's going to switch the needle and make it comfortable for you to begin.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Now, when you do mess it up, as I tell everybody, if you do happen to begin and then you mess it up, do yourself a favor.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Forgive yourself and move on.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: That seems to be a big issue with folks.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: They're not forgiving themselves.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: They mess something up, they make a plan with themselves, and then all they do is they sit down and say how worthless they are because they can't do it as they failed so many times before.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Don't do that to yourself.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Continue the path.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And once you get past a certain point, you'll really see that it works.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: And then when you get to somewhere closer to whatever goal you've put into play for you, make sure that you have a nice maintenance plan put in.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Because the worst thing is to go through all the effort it takes, and it takes a lot to drop off a shitload of body fat.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And then when you get to the end, you don't have a plan.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And you think to yourself, well, I can't just keep eating like this the rest of my life, or I can't keep fasting like this the rest of my life.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Maybe you should rethink that too.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe you can.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe every once in a while you watch the scale, you're up three or four pounds because maybe you had too much fun during the week, or you owed yourself too much during the week, or whatever it may be, then maybe taking a couple, two or three days off might not be bad.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: But again, all of this with your doctor's recommendation.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Before you start injecting yourself or taking pills or whatever, make sure you do as much research as possible.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Just don't take it as gospel as it's gonna work.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: It might work.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: And then also look at where you are.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: If there are certain issues with taking these drugs long time or as long as it's gonna take, but then there's also issues where you are.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Um, testosterone therapy.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: That was something that one of the doctors I talked to was very much against because they said it caused all of these issues.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: But I told him, I said, Doc, I'm a walking heart attack at 365.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: I, you know, I can't see this making me worse off.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: And it was a good bet.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: It did work out great.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Other doctors, of course, supported it.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I just didn't go off in Wild Wild West and start injecting myself for the fun of it.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: People maintain it, they watch it, they pay attention to it.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: All right, everybody, have a fantastic day.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: We will see you soon.
