- 0:04people, pick out your notebooks and pencils, and you're listening to the tech
- 0:08Talk Radio with true geeks. And by the way, I'm Styler and I'm
- 0:13a kick too. Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy
- 0:19Taylor, I'm Sean D. Weird, and I'm Justin Lemmi. And it's
- 0:24good to see Justin you around last week. We missed you. Yeah,
- 0:27well, just preparing for opening season at water World. Opening season that's where
- 0:32they hunt down the swimmers and they're released. The sharks gotta be fed.
- 0:38And it's been six months the shark's been fed. So so we're listeners don't
- 0:41know, Um, Justin works at water World. Has nothing to do with
- 0:47the Kevin Costner epic film. It's uh, how long has this water park
- 0:53been there in the Denver area? So well, water World? So first
- 0:58off, I don't work for water World. I work for High and Hills
- 1:00Parks and Parks and Wrecked Districts, which owns water World. Okay, I'm
- 1:03the manager of it, um, but yeah, I'm I'm My office is
- 1:08at water World and water World has been around the nineteen seventy nine is when
- 1:15it opened, right, and it is famous for it is the largest water
- 1:22park in America, really bigger than say, by oh god, dude,
- 1:27six Flags doesn't even hold a candle really wow. Yeah, no, I
- 1:30mean, but technically it is the largest, but it doesn't have the most
- 1:34slides. Now, like I don't remember Schlitterbon or whatever they have more slides.
- 1:40I think there's one in Ohio that has more slides too, but by
- 1:42area, by size, square square miles or whatever, we own the largest
- 1:49waterforlds, like the Disneyland of water parks, I guess you could say that,
- 1:53yeah, But also also what what what? What? The claim to
- 1:57fame for water World is it was the very first multi person slide in the
- 2:02world. So before that there was no I mean everybody they would just go
- 2:07down by themselves on their butt, you know, or maybe like a single
- 2:10person inner tube, like a like an actual like tractor tire inner tube.
- 2:15They didn't have multi person inner tubes, so they made a slide at water
- 2:19World that could contain up to four people, but they didn't they didn't make
- 2:24inner tubes then, So what they did was they actually went to like all
- 2:29the I think they went to like all the local kmarts and targets around the
- 2:32Denver metro area and bought up all the kiddie pools. So you go down
- 2:38the slide to the kiddie pool. Well, at the time, that was
- 2:39the only way to do it, so they would buy it. But but
- 2:43the kiddie pool would only last like three or four rides and then it would
- 2:46it would break because it's like hard plastic. So they had to buy like
- 2:52thousands of these things just to be able to survive the season. But during
- 2:55that time, then they contacted a company and said, hey, we want
- 2:59to make an inner tube that can support like two to four people, and
- 3:04they did. That's inter right there. Yeah, So I want to say,
- 3:08I mean, maybe I could be wrong, but I want to say
- 3:10that water World or something like they hold a patent on that or something.
- 3:15I can't I might be wrong. I'm not exactly sure. I could have
- 3:19swore I heard somebody saying something about that. But I find it a little
- 3:22bit odd if that is the case, If you do truly hold a patent
- 3:27on the multi person or do you go down on these things? Do you
- 3:29do this? You go go on these things? Oh? Yeah, A
- 3:31whole time. Yeah, I mean I went there. I went there yesterday.
- 3:34So like, so, well, I tell you gotta tell this story.
- 3:38Like first day, Sean he he's ends a video, he posted a
- 3:40video first day. He you know, they open it. It's a grand
- 3:45opening, and Justin is kind of happy because they've they've he is now the
- 3:50official voice of you go to a ride and his voice is blaring over the
- 3:57speaker. You must be this tall, you must be blah blah blah,
- 4:00and you did a good job with it. Well, so i'll yeah,
- 4:02I'll expand on that. So initially I was the voice of Highland Hills because
- 4:08we got a new phone system and they wanted me to do the phone system
- 4:12and using the studio that I'm talking to you guys now on I recorded all
- 4:15the stuff, you know, like, you know, thanks for calling Highland
- 4:18Hills Administration office. But then like for water World, I'd be like,
- 4:21thanks for calling water World, America's largest water park, you know, like
- 4:26and that's that's what I would, you know, please stand by. We'll
- 4:29take your call as as soon as we can. Oh man. But but
- 4:31then but then they came out and said, hey, we're gonna do this
- 4:33thing. Where like at the beginning of each ride, when you get in
- 4:38at the top of the slide. We want to be able to take that
- 4:42load off of the lifeguards from having to repeat the same things over and over
- 4:46and over again. So we're gonna put it on you and you're gonna record
- 4:48these intros. So I mean, initially I was like, this is cool,
- 4:51I get to do this. I spent like four hours recording all of
- 4:56the intros for each of the rides, and it would be something like,
- 5:00um, you know, welcome to Voyage to the Center of the Earth.
- 5:05You must be forty eight inches to ride. This ride requires a red family
- 5:11sized tube. You must keep your hands and feet inside the tube at all
- 5:15times wait for the sign from the ride dispatch before going script, which is
- 5:20amazing. I'm kind of remember, well, I spent four hours doing it.
- 5:24Almost every single ride was the same, but the one that I had
- 5:27the most fun with because I tried to be serious for the most part on
- 5:30all of them. But the one I had the most fun was Pirates Plunge,
- 5:33And I was like, I was like, welcome to Pirates Plunge.
- 5:39Did not yes, I did. I was like, you must be forty
- 5:43eight and just tall and all jump starts. Remember be safe, have fun,
- 5:47yar. So the morning that we opened, I went up to the
- 5:54top of Pirates Plunge and there's a lifeguard sitting there because they have to stay
- 5:58up at the top, and I was kind of like laughing. I was
- 6:00pointing at the speaker and I was saying and they were kind of like and
- 6:05I was like, yeah, it's me. And she goes, oh,
- 6:08yeah, that is you. I can tell you by your voice. And
- 6:10I'm like, yeah, you're gonna hate me by the end of the season.
- 6:12She goes, oh, I already hate you because and then and then
- 6:17it's so funny, like it was walking around the park before anybody came in
- 6:20the park that morning they had all the rides open. I could hear my
- 6:25voice echoing from every direction because you know, slides all over the park,
- 6:29and I could just hear my voice all over you know, just forty eight
- 6:32forty two inches keep your hands and feet and said, oh, welcome to
- 6:35Pirates Plunge. It was just all over the park. And I'm like,
- 6:39oh my god, I'm even annoyed at my own voice. Now. Monday,
- 6:42when I took the day off Memorial day and I went to the park
- 6:45as a guest with a friend of mine. We were getting into one of
- 6:47the rides and my voice was playing right behind me and I didn't say anything
- 6:51right off the bat, but the life girl was like, Hi, welcome
- 6:55to water World. Have you guys ever been here before? And I'm like
- 6:58yes. She's like, oh, well, well, welcome back. And
- 7:01I'm like, I actually work here, and she goes, wait, say
- 7:05that again, and I'm like, I actually work here. And then she
- 7:09kind of looked over at the speaker and then looked back at me and I
- 7:12go, you must be forty eight in just tall to ride this ride.
- 7:15She goes, oh my god, that's you. You know what, you
- 7:18know what I'm picturing right now? I have pictured you as Ron Burgundy saying,
- 7:24you know, I'm kind of a big deal. I don't know how
- 7:28to put this, but I'm kind of a big deal. I had a
- 7:32my office smells of rich mahogany when when I was a bouncer in the early
- 7:40days in the nightclubs after I was I was a bouncer, believe it or
- 7:44not, and I um, the guy that was a DJ and the DJO
- 7:47was a guy named Mark Farrell was great. He's still out there and still
- 7:50does stuff now. He trains DJ's, he has seminars in the whole bit.
- 7:55Oh wow. But um, I don't know how he did it,
- 7:59but well, guys talented. He was the voice to the monorail at Disneyland.
- 8:03He might have been some other voices too, and he just had that
- 8:07booming, you know, enthusiastic but very firm. Have you ever heard of
- 8:15Alan Roach. He is the voice of the Nuggets, the Avalanche. Yes,
- 8:20I mean, but this guy, I mean, this guy was this
- 8:22guy when he was born. He was born to be an announcer. I
- 8:24mean, this guy's voice is unbelievable and Mama, I weave my buddle.
- 8:31Oh yeah, yeah, I mean, seriously, this guy's voice is insane.
- 8:35Look up Alan Roach on on YouTube real quick for our listeners. You
- 8:39just need to hear this guy's boy, Alan Roach. Did you just look
- 8:43up Alan Roach. He sounds a little like Mark Farrell, the guy that
- 8:46I was telling you about that did Disneyland. But yeah, Alan Roach man,
- 8:50big name. Could you imagine if Alan Roach was doing those Welcome to
- 8:54water work? Now, why didn't you you know why? I'm thinking,
- 8:56why didn't you use voice AI and have like Johnny Depp doing the you know,
- 9:01the Pirate Ride. Well you could. I don't know, I mean
- 9:05that might be there might be some like legality issues. I don't know.
- 9:09I mean, i'd be funny. That'd be funny. Now, what is
- 9:11this documentary about Alan Roach? Where where people finding this? Well? I
- 9:16just went to YouTube and just typed in Alan Roach and it was the voice
- 9:18heard around the world. The dude are super famous. I saw nuggets,
- 9:22Yes, the Nuggets, but I saw it a Nuggets game. One of
- 9:26the guys from South Park when the creators was there, and it got everybody
- 9:31else. They were both there, Yeah, and they got everybody excited because
- 9:33they thought, oh, this means that maybe finally this restaurant which we talked
- 9:37about a couple of years ago, is finally going to open. Yeah yeah,
- 9:41Casta Bonita. Well, you know that's the funny thing because everybody,
- 9:43everybody in Denver's been talking about this because they've got they've cast Okay, first
- 9:48off, if you don't know what Castabanita is, you need to look it
- 9:52up. Casta Bonita is a super super famous that's actually a National Historic Landmark
- 9:58now m but it is in a strip mall, which is so funny.
- 10:01But it is famous because it has inside it's got like cliff divers, like
- 10:07a giant pool, and they got this like it's a Caribbean island, you
- 10:13know, a theme where they have cliff divers and pirates and stuff. But
- 10:18I think it's more famous for having just horrible, horrible food. It's great
- 10:24for a restaurant, right, Oh my god, it's it's no, it's
- 10:26become super famous because it has such horrible food. But it got really,
- 10:31really famous back in twenty fourteen when South Park the cartoon. Since the creators
- 10:37of South Park are from Colorado, they know about Castabanita because again it's famous
- 10:43to the locals and it's famous all over the world. But they had they
- 10:46made an episode where the kids from South Park get to go to Castabanita,
- 10:50and Cartman wants to go at all costs. He doesn't care how he gets
- 10:54there, he just has to go. But they end up going. But
- 10:58it made Cassabonita even more famous. But then the pandemic hit the owners of
- 11:01Castabanita filed for bankruptcy, and then Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators
- 11:07of South Park, came along and said, we would actually like to buy
- 11:11Castabonita and turn it around and make it good. And so that's what they
- 11:15did. They purchased Castabanita. They spent the last three years renovating it,
- 11:20and they hired a Michelin Star chef to make the meals, and they're all
- 11:26still super simple, and it's still cafeteria style where you place your order at
- 11:30the front and then you walk through the line, you pick up a tray
- 11:31and your orders waiting for you. But they're saying that now the food is
- 11:35actually good, the drinks are actually good. They kept the decor inside pretty
- 11:41much the same. You still have the cliff divers, you still have black
- 11:45Bart's Cave, you know, the arcade, all that stuff, but it's
- 11:48got this whole new, refreshed field. So anyway, people I've been talking
- 11:52about this, like when is it going to open. They've passed all of
- 11:54their their licenses and their inspections, they've got the parking lot repaved and ready
- 11:58to go, and then people are like, well, wait up. In
- 12:01the show, Kyle, one of the characters, his birthday when they went
- 12:07to Cassabanita was May twenty sixth, So they were like, oh, it's
- 12:11gonna open on May twenty sixth, right, it didn't, so yeah,
- 12:18nobody knows. Nobody knows now that Okay, that time is coming past.
- 12:20Yeah, it could open any day. I say that when they do open,
- 12:24Sean, maybe if you get a couple of days, we could even
- 12:28go out. Should all go do a show from we should do a show
- 12:33from there? Or even First off, it's gonna be months, do you
- 12:37think so? You think they've already they've already they're already booked out eight months.
- 12:41I'll just call up my buddy Matt and Trey and have them come along
- 12:43and sit with us. A lot going on in the world attack. First
- 12:48off, we kind of touched upon this last week, Sean. The DJI
- 12:54drone for the professional DGI has a pro I call it prosumer line. They
- 13:01have a consumer line, they have a professional line, and then they've got
- 13:07it like an industry line, right right, And they just announced their new
- 13:11version of the Inspire, which is there and I would call it entry level
- 13:16professional grade drone right now? What makes it professional? I mean, oh
- 13:22man, so it does eight and a half k it does all the cinema
- 13:26d and g raw foremasts, pro resera. It does cinema D and G
- 13:31at eight and a half K, eight K, four K, five K,
- 13:33you know, all the way down to second it'll do four and a
- 13:37half K at sixty frames per second? Wow, what do you mean by
- 13:41sorry? But what do you mean by four and a half I've never heard
- 13:43of four and a half k? Four point one kse right, four point
- 13:46one? What does that mean? It's just a little bit. It's not
- 13:50sixty by nine. It's a different aspect ratio. Different aspect because you're getting
- 13:54into because it's got because it's got it's a full frame sensor, right,
- 13:58So it's a larger sensor size, and then you can pick kind of your
- 14:03resolution within that sensor. So you're maybe not using all of the sensor to
- 14:07get that because the resolution the sensor is larger than four K or as large.
- 14:11Okay, so it's got a full frame sensor on it. It's not
- 14:13for the average user, right, this is a you are going to be
- 14:18making feature films with this, right, You're going to be you are this
- 14:22is a line item in a feature film. Right. It's not a Sean's
- 14:26budget for his documentary. He's shooting the summer, right, So this would
- 14:31be something Sean like, um, you know, if your your name is
- 14:33Joe Rigglebotto, I just pulled that name out of the air. But your
- 14:37name is I think that's an actor, Joe Rigglebuto. Right, and you're
- 14:39known for being a drone cinematographer. If you know, Mission Impossible or another
- 14:46film projects coming along and they say we need a really good drone shot.
- 14:50They called Joe Rigglebotto and he bring his wriggle bottom, Yeah, riggle Bottom.
- 14:54They he would bring his his drone in and he would film it for
- 14:56them as as like a contract. Right. Could you just imagine being that
- 15:01guy, Like, yeah, you're talking about like you gotta film this like
- 15:05a massive explosion scene or something, and you get one chance and then you're
- 15:09drone like you don't get that shot, like because you're the one single guy
- 15:13that can capture it on cinema and you mess up your shot and you're like,
- 15:18well, sorry, guys, let just waste a ten million dollars.
- 15:20And you know, more than likely that has probably happened. Now when it
- 15:22comes to this the inspired drone and the camera system. Can you mount your
- 15:28own DSLR or mirrorist camera on this drone. This one actually has a camera
- 15:33on it. It's got a gamble camera on it. Oh this is not
- 15:37mount your own. Oh okay, say it's it's a full frame its Z
- 15:43Yeah. DGI has known for including I mean that's what they're known for.
- 15:46They're not known just for the flight. They're known for the onboard computer on
- 15:50the camera built a bit. Yeah. Yeah, so this is a zen
- 15:54Meuse zef. I think it's a Z five. Try to see what the
- 15:58actual Cameron model is on it. Now. It's because they have this is
- 16:03like the thirty year inspired three zenmuse x nine where they're inspired two was the
- 16:10zenmuse x seven, right, So um, yeah, they're they're they're touting
- 16:15it as their eight K full frame professional cinematography drone that now I do believe
- 16:21and I haven't seen it yet, that they have a YouTube channel highlighting the
- 16:26features of this drone as well as you know, like what they did with
- 16:29the TGI Mini three when they put that out that made me say I wanted
- 16:33Ji dot com. And then it's right out the front page. You click
- 16:36on it and you'll be able to get right into it. So yeah,
- 16:37they had one word. The camera was flying next to birds and it was
- 16:42like so amazing the footage that they got. I mean, so here's a
- 16:48question for you, Sean. Maybe you know this one now. A few
- 16:52years ago, I did photography and I do video videography of photography on the
- 16:57side, and I had a real to her that reached out to me and
- 17:00said, could you do video and take photos of this house that they had
- 17:04on the market. It was just a little over one point I think one
- 17:07point one and I said sure. So I went out there with a camera,
- 17:11took some great shots of this beautiful house that had a theater in it,
- 17:15the whole bit, and then took some great exterior shots, went back
- 17:19at night, took some shots of the fireplace out there, and I was
- 17:23really really pleased with them, and they used them. But then they reached
- 17:29out to me and say, do you have a drone because they wanted shots.
- 17:33They wanted shots from above showing the property, and I didn't at the
- 17:37time. I didn't have it. I said, iven if you did,
- 17:41you couldn't. Well, And that's my question is how does somebody then make
- 17:45that move like say I want to I'd like to do that again. Photography
- 17:49of homes and cars. But I would like to integrate the drone, which
- 17:52the drone I have takes great video and great stills. If you are looking
- 17:56into doing work that you make money for, right with your drone, you
- 18:03have to be a what they call a certified remote pilot. That is the
- 18:08Part one oh seven number. That that's the FAA s. It's through the
- 18:12FA, right, it's it's all through the FA's. It's an aircraft right
- 18:17government. Um. If you just go to the FA website and search for
- 18:21a Part one on seven, there's a there's a list, it's I'll link
- 18:23its ad you can put in the blog. But it's you just got to
- 18:26kind of learn the rules. You take test. It used to be really
- 18:33hard, right, used. Oh my goodness, So like flight school,
- 18:36right, yeah, you had to do ground school. You had to learn
- 18:38actual ground school. Right. So I got my Part one oh seven in
- 18:45two thousand and ten, all right, and I had to study and do
- 18:48a test, and I actually had to go to an airport m HM,
- 18:52take a test in front of it, in front of a certified instructor,
- 18:57and he had to sit there and watch me take the tests. But no
- 19:00fly, you just just edit it the fly. Yeah, I did the
- 19:03demonstration, but I then like it was like a big deal. They had
- 19:07to notarize it and everything. It was crazy, like it was through the
- 19:11airport and through the it was. It was like a lesser version of the
- 19:15actual pilot's exam, right like they was when it first came out. It
- 19:19was very difficult to get. Um so I got that in two thousand,
- 19:25But but it has gotten now. You got it more like twenty twelve,
- 19:27because remember I started at the TV station in twenty ten and and you had
- 19:33started in twenty eleven. You're right. I didn't get it until I went
- 19:36back to get rappage in twenty thirteen. Okay, yeah, that's what it
- 19:38was. Yeah, yeah, so I thought I got it before I went
- 19:41to San Diego. But anyway, but it got easier, right to get
- 19:42the almost seven andy, if you wanted to to cram for this and do
- 19:48it and you get your drone, you could probably do it in three or
- 19:52four days. Oh that's not bad. Oh wow, Yeah, that would
- 19:56be cool, because I think that would be that would be neat to be
- 19:56able to do. But that's the thing. If you're gonna if you're gonna
- 20:00say I'm gonna two photos of your house and you're gonna charge them, then
- 20:04you need to get that one oh seven right, First off, you got
- 20:07to get permission. Yea, I will do it. I will tell you
- 20:11this right now. The guy at the fa that I worked with because I
- 20:14managed all of the drones for Fox when I was there, Right right before
- 20:17I left, the guy at the FAA said, use common sense and you
- 20:22won't have a problem. Yeah. Yeah. So if you're out there and
- 20:26somebody says, well, you know, i'm a realtor, I want like
- 20:29two shots in my house, you know, don't fly over four you know,
- 20:33don't fly over four hundred feet, don't fly near an airport, don't
- 20:34fly over people, don't you know, don't be stupid. Yeah, you'll
- 20:38be fine. This is the problem that I had with my drone is like
- 20:42you remember, Sean, I asked you before I got that DGI. I
- 20:47had the Phantom four, right, the big old sucker. Yeah, And
- 20:51I asked you about it and I was like, well, my thing.
- 20:52My first question was is it hard to fly? And you're like, no,
- 20:55these things basically fly themselves. I mean yeah, and it's it's true.
- 20:57I mean everybody. They've got me that. Well, no, it
- 21:00really is true, because they have auto leveling, they have returned to home
- 21:04um, automatic takeoff and landing. I mean, it's it's it's they're really
- 21:08really simple to fly. But I remember asking Sean about that, and then
- 21:14once I got it, it was just I felt like I was breaking the
- 21:18law anytime I flew it, no matter where, because they made it so
- 21:22difficult for different places to fly, like, well, you can't fly in
- 21:26an open park because there's people there. Oh well, nope, nope,
- 21:29nope. You can't go and fly in the mountains because there's there's trees and
- 21:32stuff. Oh nope. You can't fly over neighborhoods because there's people in cars.
- 21:36Oh well, now you can't. Okay, okay, where can I
- 21:37fly like legally? And and you got to the point where you had to
- 21:41use this this FAA app that you would say, you'd have to go to
- 21:45this app which barely ever worked because it's a government app, and you would
- 21:49have to say I'm gonna be flying a drone at five hundred feet from this
- 21:53time to this time, and then you had to wait for approval or whatever
- 21:57before you would you know, be allowed because they had to check to make
- 22:00sure no other aircraft would. I mean, it was just ridiculous. And
- 22:03I got to the part I was like, I can't even fly anymore.
- 22:06It was very complicated. Did you go through a lot of hoops, especially
- 22:10if you worked for a legit news operation right right, a company that aired
- 22:14content live right. So in twenty twenty one they announced the new rule.
- 22:19They called it the Operations over People Rule. So as of April twenty one,
- 22:23twenty twenty one, drone pilots operating under Part one or seven, may
- 22:26fly at night, may fly over people, may fly over moving vehicles without
- 22:32a waiver, as long as they meet the requirements for the airspace. Got
- 22:36it? Okay? What's the requirements for the airspace? Don't fly by an
- 22:40airport, don't fly within five miles of a helicopter pad, you know like
- 22:44those landing zone. Yeah, yeah, you know. But can you fly
- 22:48downtown between buildings? Because you used to not be able to do that either,
- 22:51that's not that's a common sense. No. Right now, how are
- 22:53you going to get a shot of a downtown accident or something going on downtown?
- 22:57How are you gonna get a drone shot? You can't do that.
- 23:00Go stand on skyscrapers. We got skyscrapers there are a thousand feet tall.
- 23:03You can't go about a thousand feet like. So again, it's just like
- 23:06it's like when and where you know I fly. One of the things I
- 23:08noticed on the dj I Mini three Pro and I got the one with the
- 23:11remote control. I'm not using the phone for it, but I did notice
- 23:15that there is zones that will that will show you you're will actually check to
- 23:22see if you're an improved zone, that you're okay in that area, at
- 23:26least I guess maybe on the surface. I don't know. I have to
- 23:29look more into that. I am going to look into this one oh seven
- 23:32and Sean has provided a link for us, and I'll put it up on
- 23:34the website too for anybody else that's take it about doing. I honestly would
- 23:37love to have another drone and I would love to be part one oh seven
- 23:41just because then if I ever needed to, I could legally make money with
- 23:45it. But I just find it so intimidating and convoluting that I can't figure
- 23:52out when and where to fly. Well, it's probably a lot you need,
- 23:55I think I think you need to give it another go. Yeah,
- 23:56it's probably a lot thought that was several years ago and they have really refined
- 24:00to the process. Well, I've left a really bad taste in my mouth.
- 24:04I'm not joking when I said it would take any three or three or
- 24:07four days of studying getting the laces. No, I'm not talking about that.
- 24:11But the fact again, I can't just take my drone out and go
- 24:12fly around the neighborhood. Well, it's gonna be tougher for you, because
- 24:15you're in a big city in Denver. Right, you got Denver International not
- 24:21that far away? Right, No, I mean I would not. I'm
- 24:22nowhere near. First off, you have not been to Denver. If you
- 24:26don't know where Denver International is, it is like another city compared to Denver,
- 24:30Like it is that far away. But no, I mean, seriously,
- 24:33there's nothing around me. But yet I cannot fly in a neighborhood because
- 24:36it's a neighborhood residential area. Oh, I didn't know you couldn't do that,
- 24:38because I've done that many times in front of my hand, and it's
- 24:41illegal. I just told you about the rule. Right, as long as
- 24:44you have as long as the air, you're eligible to fly in the airspace,
- 24:47you can fly over the neighborhood. Yeah, if I'm a part one
- 24:49oh seven. No, I don't think you have to be a part one
- 24:52of the to be a part one oh seven. Yes, Oh there you
- 24:55go. Oh so I broke the law. Great, I'm gonna get a
- 24:59fine now. So so basically, if I give another shot, I have
- 25:03to well, first off, obviously buy a drone. Then I have to
- 25:06get my part one o seven. Then it kind of opens up the world
- 25:08to me. Right, is that what you're saying, Sean? I would
- 25:11say I would suggest if if you're interested in getting get drone, get the
- 25:15one on seven just because just get in all right. The other how long
- 25:18does that last? Good question? Yeah. The other The other thought is
- 25:22get a drone that doesn't weigh a certain weight because mine is actually below a
- 25:26weight class, so I don't have to get certification on it for something.
- 25:32So if it falls out of the sky and it hits a person, it
- 25:33doesn't kill them. It just causes brain damage. No, it's not what
- 25:37I mean. I just mean the legalities of where you where you can fly
- 25:41it. Yeah, from what I understand, Yeah, those are like the
- 25:45radio shack drones. It's not a shack drone. I'm sorry it Brookstone,
- 25:52give me Broostone, those gods Brookstone, the mall, the airport lounge,
- 25:59the ones Instagram for thirty nine dollars. Yeah. Yeah, We're stuck in
- 26:03a layover in Las Vegas and there's a Brookstone and I bought a drone there
- 26:07and I'm thinking this is gonna be good. Nope. At an airport,
- 26:10Yeah, I bought an air was stuck in a layover. Oh boy,
- 26:12all right, one oh seven. I'll put the link up on our website.
- 26:17Uh, some other things that you've been looking at, Sean, I
- 26:18know that. Oh wait, Chel, what are you showing us address clear
- 26:22for takeoff? Oh wow? He actually looked at my address because I gave
- 26:26it to him recently, and he put it into the app. And then
- 26:29okay, well, then I'll dig out my non existing drone and go fly.
- 26:33What did you do with your drone? Did you give it away?
- 26:36Or what I sold? It really wasn't well because I wasn't using it ever,
- 26:41and it was still worth money at the time, So get rid of
- 26:44it while I could. I have computers from nineteen eighty nine. I have
- 26:48not sold this is this is this is why you have a problem. Yeah,
- 26:52so justin like if you wanted to get like the Mavig Mini, like
- 26:55spend four hundred and five hundred dollars and get them little find your neighborhood,
- 26:59totally doable. Yeah I could do that. Now this tells you also,
- 27:02like there are some helicopter pads nearby, you know, say an Anthony snrm.
- 27:07Yeah, yeah, I know there's there's a fight common sense, right,
- 27:11but this thing, this tells you exactly where I'll take the lesson on
- 27:14this that. Yes, it's drastically improved since twenty seventeen when I last floated
- 27:19a drone. Now, look, I mean you're you can't fly much further
- 27:22sat Like there's the if you look at if you go to the before you
- 27:25fly, put can't fly in that big circle, right, those are the
- 27:27yeah basically all of Denver. Yeah those seriously, it's pretty much all of
- 27:33Denver. You can't fly. Can you fly a water world? No?
- 27:38What if? What if you did when they're closed, like to get footage,
- 27:42to get footage? Yeah, and watch what happens Then my drone crashes
- 27:45and I can't get in the park to get it. It's like a common
- 27:52sense Andy episode of the Goonies. Don't fly places where you can't retrieve your
- 27:56drone into a cactus. That would be by all right, now, obviously
- 28:03Calorado spragues is out. Oh yeah, all the Military Air Force Academy.
- 28:08Yeah, I kind of wonder at Davis month and two here we have that
- 28:11issue pretty much. That would be uh, that would be pretty funny.
- 28:15Um, all right, I wanted to tell you guys what I showed on
- 28:18Fox eleven this week. It's kind of cool. Um, got a chance
- 28:22to connect with my friends at Ruku. Uh. And I think every one
- 28:26of us has a Roku streaming stick. You have one, No, I
- 28:30have a Google Chrome Cast with Google TV, and I have an Amazon Fire
- 28:36TV stick. All right, I used to have. I used to have
- 28:37a Roku four k. Yeah right, that we don't have that anymore.
- 28:41We went to Apple TV and just the Apple TV. Our TV is smart
- 28:47enough now. So so I have two Rokus. I have the Roku and
- 28:52then the regular Roccu and then have Roccu four K and they send us over
- 28:56the four K plus to look at and it's like, you know, it's
- 28:59kind of cool. Has the voice control on the controller. If you lose
- 29:03the controller, it will make a sound. You can send a ping to
- 29:07it and it will ping, so you can find the controller, which is
- 29:10very nice. You can also tell it hey play classic rock or play oldies
- 29:15and it will find a music channel that will play that for you. And
- 29:19again I'll connects to your big TV. But what they're doing now, and
- 29:22we kind of saw this last year Sean where they partnered with Wise and basically
- 29:30branding Roku camps for security cameras. Now they're getting into home security monitoring.
- 29:37And so what they've got now, which is actually pretty cool, is they've
- 29:41got a home security monitoring kit called the se and it comes with a control
- 29:47hub, comes with two entry devices, so you could put it on a
- 29:52door, and it's got a little magnetic piece and if that magnetic is broken,
- 29:56like somebody opens a door or opens a window, can send an alert
- 30:00to your smartphone or your television if you're happy to be watching TV. Comes
- 30:06with two of those, comes with a control pad so you can disarm the
- 30:10alarm system. And it even comes with a sensor you can put in the
- 30:12corner. All for only ninety nine bucks, which is pretty good. Yeah,
- 30:18it's not bad if you've got a wired system, you know, and
- 30:22you're not using it. And if we talked with the company a few years
- 30:26ago, you remember, justin you actually turned us onto them and they take
- 30:30your old systems, like whether it be a Honeywell system or something like that,
- 30:34and they kind of work it so you could control the wiring on it
- 30:38and control the y and but this one is completely wireless. It's battery powered.
- 30:45They send all the batteries out with it. Then they also, you
- 30:48know, they'll integrate with a webcam. So if you not a webcam,
- 30:52but a you know the camera, the ROCU cam. So say you're sitting
- 30:56watching a TV you get a notification that your camera has somebody at the front
- 31:02door, or your camera sees movement in the backyard, depending on wherever you
- 31:07put you know, these cameras, or if you're in a TV room somewhere
- 31:11and you want to know if that front door opens, you get a notification
- 31:15that front door is opened. And again, it can all be installed quickly,
- 31:18very easy. It comes with all the tools. It's only ninety nine
- 31:22bucks. That's not bad. That's pretty good. Yeah, yeah, I'm
- 31:26not gonna say that's pretty good. Yeah, it's cool that Roku's doing that,
- 31:30and they said it's just a way to kind of bring all of the
- 31:33home stuff together. So like the whole segment was just featured on Roku smart
- 31:37bulbs and the wireless rope lights, which I won't be able to try.
- 31:41I wanted to hook them up and see, but I gotta send the stuff
- 31:45back. But it would be kind of cool to see how well they light
- 31:47up because I've been looking for a solution like something to go under the cabinet
- 31:51that would light up the cabinets. We have those motion ones right now and
- 31:55they'll light up and it's you know, it's kind of a kind of a
- 31:57pain. Yeah, I want to do more of and all speaking of that,
- 32:00I gotta reach back out to U. You know the guy that I've
- 32:04been talking with on he's on a YouTube. He's a smart homesolver. This
- 32:08guy is like, if you haven't been to YouTube and checked out smart Homesolver
- 32:13channel, really good. I mean, he just automates every single thing in
- 32:16his home. And I really want to get him on the show to talk
- 32:20about, you know, just some of his inspirations and things that he's done,
- 32:22because it's it's it's truly, it's it's his whole house is just it's
- 32:28my dream home. I mean, it's like so smart. You know everything
- 32:30about it is this smart? Has you got the new one where you come
- 32:32home and it has voice detection on the door. I think Ring is doing
- 32:37this one has it has basically detection so it will look and see who it
- 32:43is, and if it's somebody that recognizes like somebody that lives in the home,
- 32:45it'll say welcome home as you walk in the door. Yep, he
- 32:50has that, and he'll it'll turn on certain lights for him versus his wife,
- 32:53and it will play certain music for him versus his wife. I mean,
- 32:55it's like, yeah, the whole thing is just insanely automated. Did
- 32:59you it'll turn on his wife? Oh? Can we say that? I
- 33:05can't we say that? I don't know. Did I say that? No?
- 33:07I said turn on lights for his wife? I didn't, Wow,
- 33:10putting words in my mouth. Bro boy, that's great technology right there.
- 33:16All right, we're taking a break. We gotta take a break. We'll
- 33:20be back with the Moore of Tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 33:22shot the Weird and I'm justin Let me find us on the web at tech
- 33:27talk radio dot com. We'll be right back and Matt back to tech talk
- 33:31Radio. So I am extremely upset right now. You're very angry. Your
- 33:37ears were red. You were telling, well, well, that's just the
- 33:39sun. I've been getting a lot of sun lately, you know, working
- 33:42at water World and all you were telling but telling us about something that went
- 33:45wrong earlier this week. And it's still it's not gonna be available till Tuesday.
- 33:51But you paid some money. I definitely paid money. So I'm talking
- 33:55about Diablo four. It's a video game. It is a legendary video games
- 34:00series. The last time Diablo got released, Sean, correct me if I'm
- 34:04wrong, but it was twenty twelve, right, okay, twenty eleven,
- 34:13Yeah, so it put on long Blizzard Blizzard, Yeah, yes, Blizzard
- 34:16put this game out. And they're a huge company. I mean, Blizzard
- 34:20makes World of Warcraft, they make StarCraft, they make what else do they
- 34:23make, Sean? I mean StarCraft Overwatch? Overwatch. Yeah. Microsoft is
- 34:29trying to Yes, Microsoft is trying to buy them right now, you know,
- 34:32like their Activision Blizzard deal. Um. But anyway, so, so
- 34:37I paid one hundred and twenty bucks. I think it was to get Diablo
- 34:42for a pre release, which which was released on June first, for the
- 34:47pre pre release orders. It doesn't. It didn't become public until the sixth,
- 34:52right, so Tuesday. Yeah, yeah, so so it Yeah so
- 34:58I paid for this early act this and it got released at five pm my
- 35:04time on the first. Okay, And I jumped on my PlayStation because I
- 35:08want the reason I bought. Now. I'm a PC gamer at heart,
- 35:12but I can't play PC remote like I can with the PlayStation or even the
- 35:16Xbox. Now. I have an Xbox Series X the latest, you know,
- 35:21the top of the line console. I also have a PlayStation five.
- 35:23And with the Xbox remote play where I can go to like my local brewery,
- 35:29and I can bring my computer and bring an Xbox controller and play it.
- 35:34Xbox remote play is hit or miss. I mean, it'll work one
- 35:36day and it won't work the next. PlayStation remote play just works. It
- 35:40just works. And when you say computer, do you take like the whole
- 35:45you take the whole thing there, the whole place. And no, I
- 35:49don't have a surface. No, I have a surface pro my laptop,
- 35:52right, you know. And I and there's an app of the PlayStation remote
- 35:54app, and same with the Xbox. There's an Xbox app as well.
- 35:59Um but you just launched the app and you click connect and it connects to
- 36:02your PlayStation or Xbox from home wherever you're at, even or even in the
- 36:07world. I actually tested out the remote play of the Xbox, which my
- 36:14Xbox is in Denver, Colorado, and I tested it from Tokyo, Japan,
- 36:19and I was able to play. I was able to stream my Xbox
- 36:23from Tokyo. Now, granted it wasn't the greatest and the lag was a
- 36:28little bad, but it was it was playable. I was I could play
- 36:31some games. I couldn't play any games like Call of Duty or whatever because
- 36:36that, you know, it requires split second decision making and you can't really
- 36:39do that when you get that kind of lag. But anyway, anyway,
- 36:43I got the Diablo on PlayStation because I like their remote play much better.
- 36:51And I go to launch it and it's like que for I mean, you're
- 36:55in the queue for entry and it's like two minutes. I'm like, oh,
- 36:59okay, that's not bad. Two minutes, so two minutes passes.
- 37:01I'm waiting. More So, it's like it's like a total of five minutes,
- 37:05and then it says failed to find license and then already paid for it,
- 37:12Yes, after I've already paid one hundred and twenty dollars for early access,
- 37:15it says failed to find license, and then it kicks me back out
- 37:19to the main screen. And then I'm like, Okay, let me go
- 37:21back in the queue. Maybe that was a one off, Nope, over
- 37:23and over. So then I go to check Twitter. Twitter is blowing up,
- 37:28and of course the devs of the game, the guys that actually make
- 37:31the game, are posting screenshots of them playing Diablo four on Xbox or PC.
- 37:39It just kind of none of little assault in the wound, right,
- 37:43None of them are meant yeah, none of them are mentioning anything about the
- 37:47PlayStation having a problem. Not a single developer tweet that mentions anything about the
- 37:53play all the customers that are mentioning it like it's it's it's the number three
- 37:59trending top on that day was was the PlayStation Diablo for not a single word
- 38:06from Blizzard about it, And so I couldn't get in. I couldn't get
- 38:08in, and I'm like, I'm so livid because you think about this twenty
- 38:15some years of failed game launches. I mean, look at look at um
- 38:20uh no Man's sky, look at all the different call of duties. Look
- 38:22at Sean helped me out here with some of these a Star Citizen um uh
- 38:29where they have these elite dangerous Yeah. These all these online games, right,
- 38:37every single one of them failed and every single time it was the same
- 38:39thing, is is not enough server capacity. Okay, well, you know,
- 38:43after twenty years of you guys having these problems, don't you think you
- 38:47would learn from your mistakes and say, okay, we expect this many servers.
- 38:53And not Before I even continue with that thought, about two weeks to
- 39:00the launch of Diablo four, they had what they called a server slam where
- 39:04they invited everybody to play Diablo for forty eight hours and they said, here,
- 39:09come stress test our servers. Let's make this break so we can make
- 39:15it so way on launch day it's gonna work. Everybody streamed. I mean,
- 39:19there was millions of people playing that game, and yet on the day
- 39:22of launch nobody can play it. It's like, you guys, you gotta
- 39:27be kidding me. After this many failed launches, you guys can't get your
- 39:31heads out of your butt. Think think about how much money that they've generated
- 39:37with this? Now? Could this mean? I mean, obviously they're probably
- 39:43going to get it fixed. But here you are, with the time you
- 39:45have, this time, you've put it aside, you've got the nuggets that
- 39:49we're playing, you have this Diablo four, you've paid the extra money.
- 39:52Will they give them people a refund? I highly doubt it, But I'm
- 39:58I'm you know what, I honestly at this point, I would not surprise
- 40:00me. It would not surprise me. Excuse me if the people that had
- 40:06the pre order access that couldn't get in are going to file a class action
- 40:09lawsuit because we have paid extra money for that. I mean, somebody actually
- 40:15had a tweet earlier. It's like it's like, um, what they compared
- 40:19to you? They said, it's like paying for a seat on an airplane
- 40:22and then getting on board and being forced to stand, or worse, like
- 40:25sitting in the lavatory. Yeah. I mean, you're you're expecting to get
- 40:31something and then you don't get it. Get the red ring of death on
- 40:35your legs. Dude. But seriously, I mean, this is this is
- 40:40ridiculous. I mean, I can't believe after all this time, of all
- 40:45these failed games. They still can't figure it out. Now, I know
- 40:47Sean has been looking up some of the stories around it. And you know
- 40:50what really ticks me off justin is we started, you know, you told
- 40:52me about this situation. We started looking into it and there are a lot
- 40:57of publications. What they were doing, uh, these are online publications is
- 41:00getting stories and then they were putting on their fix solution. So you think,
- 41:07oh cool, this is a fix. You click on it, you
- 41:09read exactly what you've just said, every article the same thing, and then
- 41:14you get to the end it said, now it's just a matter of time
- 41:16for Sony or the PlayStation network to go ahead and get their system running.
- 41:22No fix, nothing that knows you're miraculously going to get through, except they
- 41:25just made a couple of bucks off. You go to all the ads.
- 41:28Yeah, and this is ridiculous. Yeah, it's really crazy. One of
- 41:31them said, you may trade try checking to see if their servers are up
- 41:36by clicking here, And it wasn't down detector. It was clicking another web
- 41:40page within their same the same company that was full of gain off clickbait.
- 41:45Because it ad is in your face. This is why, this is why
- 41:50I use piehole to like the DNS black hole, right, I use piehole
- 41:54and other ad blockers because ads have just gotten so ridiculous and and and and
- 42:00truly, you know, and this is going to go off on a whole
- 42:04other tangent and we don't really have to go dive into it. But this
- 42:07is why I got out of the media industry, because journalism as a whole
- 42:10is just all it is is just clickbait. There's a lot of that,
- 42:15and it's it's it frustrates me. There is a there's somebody else that does
- 42:17a radio show like we do a tech show, and it's a huge show.
- 42:22But you go to the website and I have gone to the website just
- 42:24to see, hey, what are they doing, and yeah, they're doing
- 42:27better, much better than this show when it comes to you know, the
- 42:30followers and stuff. But it's nothing but clickbait, like ads like everywhere on
- 42:36it. And yep, I'm just thinking, wow, this is like it's
- 42:39yeah, okay, she's making money or that show's making money. Oh,
- 42:45but yeah, there's so much clickbait and I you know, I guess maybe
- 42:49they're they're thinking what they're thinking. It's it's awful. I just went to
- 42:54it it is. Yeah, you're looking at it right now, right clickbait,
- 42:58clickbait, clickbait, clickbait. Yeah, big mistakes you're making cleaning your
- 43:01TV. Yeah, it's all that's that's that's not even a tech show.
- 43:07I mean well, I mean, yes, that's a tech show, but
- 43:08that's not even tech shows that do that. Everybody does that and not to
- 43:12mention, look, think about um. When you go to look for a
- 43:15recipe, Yeah right, you gotta go. You gotta sift through like seventeen
- 43:19novels of life stories about how your great grandmother used to make this thing before
- 43:25you can finally get to the bottom of the page. And then there's the
- 43:29recipe and it's like it's so full of ads. It's just dulous. Like
- 43:32one of my favorites on Snapchat is what the Fork and it's really well done.
- 43:37But again they'll start with the first thing with ingredients. You get about
- 43:42maybe two minutes in and boom, it's an ad and then you got how
- 43:44to watch the ad and then they go back to it, but they recap
- 43:47what they've done and then another ad and it's like, oh, come on,
- 43:52just give me the recipe. So if you were just following us.
- 43:55We just discussed this. We'll be right back, all right, So what
- 43:59what what's next for you? Justin? I mean, what can you do
- 44:01in this case? You can't do anything. I mean, honestly, I'm
- 44:04just gonna be waiting to see I'm gonna be searching Twitter for class action lawsuit
- 44:08hashtag class action lawsuit. In my quick search, it's found that apparently if
- 44:14you download a PlayStation Plus, oh and they've got a Diablo ad on the
- 44:17TV. So now what was that, Sean? If you download one,
- 44:22if you download one of the free PlayStation Plus games and then launch Diablo while
- 44:25that's downloading, apparently that's silly. Really no, no, there's no way.
- 44:34So now Sony wants you to go and buy another game. No,
- 44:37no, not buy one of the free ones, to buy one of the
- 44:39free PlayStation Plus games. All right, this is yeah. I'm hopefully by
- 44:45next week Justin will have had a shot, because he's not gonna do it
- 44:50for the end of the show, so we'll we'll have to see if he
- 44:52has been able to get in to Diablo for If I'm not here next week,
- 44:57it's probably because I had an aneurysm trying to get in. All right,
- 45:00take quick break, but come back. I've got something huge to show
- 45:04you from a company with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 45:07I'm Seanda Weird, and I'm Justin Lemmy. You can find us online and
- 45:12actually get to our website at tech talk radio dot com. No clickbait.
- 45:16Now back to tech talk Radio. When I lived down in San Diego with
- 45:21Justin, he introduced me to this website Reddit reddits. Oh yeah, I've
- 45:23read it. Oh yeah. For those of you who don't know what it
- 45:27is, Reddit is considered to be the front page of the Internet. It's
- 45:30basically just a collection of the Internet with different subcategories or subreddits that literally any
- 45:39topic you can think of exists. Right, So there's pretty much cats,
- 45:44dogs, cars, trucks, planes, uh, microphones, radios, amateur
- 45:50radio, hamburg. Yeah, if there's a there's a topic for everything.
- 45:52You can literally find anything on Reddit. Sometimes I notice you can do like
- 45:55a you know, a search, an online search, and you'll see Reddy
- 46:00show up as one of the you know, one of the fines where it
- 46:02will help you. Yeah, it's a it's a great it's a great place
- 46:05to find information on things you may not know about or if you're researching things
- 46:08like flashlights, Like there's a flashlights subreddit if you really interested in flashlights.
- 46:13I went on their research and found a flashlight that I liked and bought it.
- 46:15Anyways, there is a third party app called Apollo. Okay it is.
- 46:22It is hands down the best third party Reddit app that allows you to
- 46:25access Reddit using the application. Right. It's it's been voted number one app
- 46:30on the App Store. It's got millions and millions of downloads, it's got
- 46:34millions of users. Great, it's just it works. You can pay a
- 46:38subscription, you can pay Lifetime, Ultra, you can pay you know.
- 46:42It's it's really great. Do they have a free version of it too?
- 46:45Yeah, you can pay for a free version also. Yeah, there's things,
- 46:49there's there's tiers that you unlock obviously with the paid versions. But um,
- 46:54it's it's really great. And Reddit has decided they're going to start charging
- 47:01or their API access. Basically, what that is is an API is a
- 47:06is a a door for your app to access the content on Reddit. You
- 47:13say, all right, Reddit, I want to display this subreddit on my
- 47:15app. It opens the door. It gives you the subredd Reddit is going
- 47:20to start charging for that. Wow, And oh my god. The Reddit
- 47:23founder, Christian Selling, basically said, I'm not very happy with what they
- 47:29said. What they you know, he's had calls to them and he's just
- 47:30trying to work it out. But the new cost would be twelve thousand dollars
- 47:36per fifty million requests. Oh my god. Okay, that's that's a that's
- 47:40a that's a big number. Yeah, but you have to remember, it's
- 47:44like there's a lot of there's a lot of things happening on the back end,
- 47:46right, Okay, but Apollo again, is it's charging people to use
- 47:51their app to a certain extent. Yeah, but to a certain extent.
- 47:54But Reddit, you know, to give you an example of how many API
- 48:00requests Apollo does last month, it did seven billion. Oh lord, how
- 48:06much is that? Which would cost him one point seven million per month or
- 48:12twenty million a year. Oh my god, wow, to continue to do
- 48:17his app the way it is working now. And the Internet has blown up
- 48:22about it because a lot of people are just like, yo, Reddit,
- 48:25your website stinks, your main website stinks, your your app is atrocious.
- 48:32We use other apps because they work better, and we want to use your
- 48:36site. So figure it out. So it's just it's it's gonna be a
- 48:39bummer if if I can't use Apollo. I don't really know if I'm gonna
- 48:43be on Reddit anymore. But I like Reddit. So what is that going
- 48:45to do to the communities that I follow? What is that going to do
- 48:49to the people that use Reddit? What is that going to do to the
- 48:52ad revenue for Reddit? You know all that stuff. So it's it's gonna
- 48:54be interesting to see what happens. But so far it doesn't seem like third
- 48:59party apps are going to be the way to you Reddit. Wow, it's
- 49:00it's interesting. I just went ahead and downloaded the Apollo app. I did
- 49:05not have that. And first story I see there is now that Reddit is
- 49:08killing third party apps July first, what are great alternatives Reddit? So they're
- 49:14already looking there's gonna be something else out there that people can use. There's
- 49:17there's already been other apps that have coming on because Reddit has either bought them
- 49:22out or made their app a was identical to that. It was easier to
- 49:27just use the normal Redda app than it was to use the third party app.
- 49:30So this is just kind of a I don't want to say it's a
- 49:32bully tactic, but it's it's a way to force people to use the normal
- 49:37Reddit site to drive up their numbers the normal Reddit app to boost their their
- 49:42public IPO offering. Wow. Oh wow, Well yeah, that plays out
- 49:45July first is when they're gonna start charging them. So you're gonna see if
- 49:47Apollo sticks around or if they start charging for everything. Yeah, he said,
- 49:52even if he only kept the subscription users, those numbers would have to
- 49:55double to keep him the float. Yeah. Wow man. And will the
- 50:00quality of Reddit go down then? Because you know what I'm saying, this
- 50:05is going to be less people that are going to be able to use that.
- 50:08So it's gonna be less popular to do that because they're charging an exorbitant
- 50:13fee. Maybe they'll they'll work out their fee structure. Who knows. Um.
- 50:16I had a great question this week. Maybe you guys can help.
- 50:20And first, this came to us from one of the directors at Fox eleven
- 50:25that they have century Link, which is of course you know DSL basically right,
- 50:30it's not cable, it's DSLU. And they were asking me they wanted
- 50:35to get rid of their motem or they wanted to get rid of having to
- 50:37pay for modem rental because with Century Link you get a motem, you get
- 50:42a router all in one, and that's what you get, but you pay
- 50:45for it every month. So you want to know can people do that?
- 50:47And I know with Exfinity I've done that where I don't pay a monthly.
- 50:52I went out and I bought my own neck gear modem Docsis three three one
- 50:55or three three and you know, got my own linksis sixty router, which
- 51:00you know, I love. You know that it can be kind of pricey,
- 51:01but then you take away that monthly cost added to your cable bill that
- 51:06that makes it kind of nice. But now he's wondering can it be done
- 51:08with DSL? And I told him myself, I'm gonna have to look and
- 51:13see if there are any offerings. I know zyke Cell is one of the
- 51:15companies that offers a DSL type of modem, and then it depends if you
- 51:22have voice services and the whole bit. But I thought, I'm gonna ask
- 51:24the guys on tech talk radio to see if they have a solution. What
- 51:29would be the best way to go. Now I have Central Link not well,
- 51:37yeah, I was gonna say Central Link not so much. I have
- 51:38Central Link gig Internet and it's amazing. But yeah, DSL yeah, no,
- 51:44now are you? Are you? Is it considered like a DSL for
- 51:46you justin even though it's Central Link or it's fiber. Oh no, I
- 51:50got fiber. You have fiber. Central Link does both DSL and fiber,
- 51:53right, so obviously fiber is not available certain areas they'll have DSL lines,
- 51:58right, so it's unfort if they mean do they have other options? Right?
- 52:01Yeah, I don't have to stay. It was Injurylink. Now I'm
- 52:04gonna see them on Monday and I'm gonna have to talk to him. And
- 52:07speaking of that Monday, I will tell you Next week on the show Netgear,
- 52:12We're gonna have a representative from Netgear on talking about some of their products
- 52:16that might be good ideas for Father's Day that's coming up. You want to
- 52:20get down a new router or a new model, which is cool, but
- 52:22I want to show you something they sent. This is the new router from
- 52:28Netgear. Uh it's pretty big, dude. That's the size of like a
- 52:32movie poster. What are you trying to start like a forty eight port?
- 52:37Which, No, it's actually something new that they've got. It's called mural
- 52:42and I haven't unboxed it yet, but it's m e U R A L.
- 52:45You guys got to look at this, uh, and it is from
- 52:47Netgear. But what it is is imagine being able to put up a huge
- 52:52frame in the in your home that you can select whenever you want to.
- 52:58You pay a subscription for it. I want to have the Maybe I want
- 53:02to have a decal or I want to have Da Vinci, or I want
- 53:06to have Mona Lisa, or if you have this artwork that can then be
- 53:09put into this frame and it's all digital, you can have your fighting family
- 53:15photos on it and it's huge. I mean it's I mean, you guys
- 53:16see this box nor from from Hohogan Netgear. It's net Gear at muro Emmy
- 53:22you are a l it's it looks incredible on their website. Yeah, and
- 53:27they have three You download an app and you can set it up to pull
- 53:34stock art. You can have it pull uh. If you have a subscription,
- 53:38you can have it pull subscription art uh NFTs NFTs AI generated probably.
- 53:45Yeah, it's pretty amazing. Yeah, it looks pretty awesome. And they're
- 53:49and they're they look like they're digital displays built inside of a campus structure.
- 53:53Yeah, so how much does this go for? I'm don't even know that.
- 53:59Come, I am the There are three displays. They have a thirteen
- 54:05point thirteen by thirteen and a half by seven and a half, so like
- 54:08a normal desktop size one sixteen by twenty four or in nineteen by twenty nine.
- 54:15That's big. Yeah, so let's see the thirteen points. The thirteen
- 54:19by seven five is three hundred forty nine ninety nine. Right, mereal smart
- 54:23WiFi photo frame fifteen point six hten display for photos art NFT. That's three
- 54:29forty nine ninety nine. The other one is shop now. The sixteen by
- 54:36twenty four is doesn't say a price five ninety nine five ninety nine for that
- 54:42one, right, and then the larger size and knew. Oh you can
- 54:45even pick different color frames for it. Standard mounting swivel mounts. You can
- 54:52hid a safe behind it. Yeah, it's nineteen by twenty nine is sixty
- 54:57seven hundred dollars sixty nine six ninety nine ninety nine. Black. You can
- 55:02get it. Oh, I can get it tuesday. I can get it
- 55:05in a couple of days shipping. Well, we're gonna show it on TV
- 55:08on on Fox eleven on Monday. So for our listener, these are these
- 55:12look these look really cool? Yeah, so you'd be able to I just
- 55:15gotta figure out how to get to display it. But but how wait?
- 55:17Hold on holding by by by an artist easel? Yeah, an artists.
- 55:25We'll just rent one from the library or barn one from the library. No,
- 55:29an artist easel, that'd be good. I think I might even have
- 55:30one. But but here's the thing. Nobody's talking about this. Where does
- 55:35it get its power from? No? Oh good good, yeah it maybe
- 55:40look it's gonna look great on a wall chord for the power chord draping down
- 55:47from it. We're gonna have none of these. None of these pictures look
- 55:50like they have power. Maybe it's battery. Oh so you gotta take it
- 55:53off every couple days and charge it? Probably all right, I mean that's
- 55:59that's I will have that all figured out this weekend as well. So all
- 56:02right, we're gonna take come back. Just has got something to share with
- 56:07us, that'll be more with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm

- 56:28like live or semi live satellite imagery of weather. And it's not as accurate.
- 56:35It's not as detailed as like accu weather or Weather Underground or whatever.
- 56:39But what it does give you is it gives you real satellite imagery of Earth
- 56:44and the daytime, nighttime. You know where the sun position is, where
- 56:49the storms are coming, you know certain storms. It's actually really cool looking
- 56:53and you can it's really quick to load. You can zoom in and out
- 56:57zoom dot Earth or if that could be handy with a hurricane season coming now
- 57:00to you know, the eastern coast. That many good and it tracks the
- 57:04hurricanes. Absolutely it does, and it's it's pretty cool. I'm looking at
- 57:07it. It's this it's a cool like visual representation of the world and what
- 57:12the weather looks like all over the world. Zoom dot Earth is the website.
