- 0:57Speaker 2: How I'm going to start this one out is I'm
- 1:00Speaker 2: going to dive into a little bit of Matt Rule here.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And why I think Saturday's game especially falls directly on him.
- 1:08Speaker 2: First off, let's start with how this week started on Monday.
- 1:14Speaker 2: He comes out with the press conference all fired up
- 1:16Speaker 2: and all this bull crap and all this. Where was
- 1:20Speaker 2: that during the game first off? Why weren't you that
- 1:22Speaker 2: pissed off? During the game, ripping players' asses, doing all this. So,
- 1:29Speaker 2: the one that really got me was him saying that
- 1:33Speaker 2: he didn't want players dancing on the field and doing
- 1:38Speaker 2: all that. He's like, yeah, I'll never let that happen again.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I wanted to stop it when it happened, but I didn't.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's like, dude, you are the coach. They're your players.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Go tell them, hey, let's stop this. It's embarrassing. Now,
- 1:52Speaker 2: it wouldn't look as bad if they won the game,
- 1:53Speaker 2: but it just looks even worse when they are doing that,
- 2:00Speaker 2: especially Nebraska should not be the team that's doing that
- 2:03Speaker 2: right there. With how they've been the last 10, 15 years,
- 2:08Speaker 2: you can't be doing that, dancing and showing about and
- 2:12Speaker 2: all this. You have not beaten any really good teams
- 2:16Speaker 2: the last 10 years. Good teams, ranked teams, whatever. Until
- 2:22Speaker 2: they actually prove that they can win these games consistently,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you can't be troubling like that. I get hindsight's 20-20
- 2:31Speaker 2: if they win the game. No one's saying anything about it.
- 2:33Speaker 2: But still, it's like Matt Rule. You can go out
- 2:37Speaker 2: there and tell them to stop doing that if you
- 2:39Speaker 2: want them to. Another thing that got me was him
- 2:47Speaker 2: saying that He's not the players on the field when
- 2:52Speaker 2: they asked him, well, what's going on in the game, whatever,
- 2:55Speaker 2: why didn't you win this game with it? Basically, that's
- 2:57Speaker 2: what he said. He's like, well, I'm not the one
- 2:58Speaker 2: playing out there. Yeah, but you're the coach. Make some adjustments.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Find a way to win these close games in a
- 3:08Speaker 2: game situation like this. You can't just blame your players
- 3:12Speaker 2: on that. Eventually, I mean, yes, the players have a
- 3:16Speaker 2: lot to do with it, but When it's a consistent
- 3:19Speaker 2: team like this, it comes down to coaching. It's got
- 3:24Speaker 2: to be something. So then you think about it, think
- 3:26Speaker 2: about it. I think it falls back on Matt Rule especially.
- 3:30Speaker 2: What I've noticed a lot about him is, especially after
- 3:34Speaker 2: he's lost, on the sideline he's not, he just kind
- 3:36Speaker 2: of sits there and does nothing, kind of looks like
- 3:38Speaker 2: an idiot. And then he comes out on a Monday
- 3:40Speaker 2: press conference and is just all pissed off and all this.
- 3:43Speaker 2: It's happened many times like I've saw before. It's like, dude,
- 3:49Speaker 2: where is this during the game? Start winning this freaking game.
- 3:53Speaker 2: We're tired of it. It's been so long. You should
- 3:59Speaker 2: have beat Oregon. First off, I don't give a crap
- 4:02Speaker 2: when Ruella came in. That quarterback they started, I'm not
- 4:08Speaker 2: kidding with you. You could pick out probably a middle
- 4:14Speaker 2: schooler quarterback versus him. And I think middle schooler beat
- 4:18Speaker 2: him on the field right there. That quarterback was the
- 4:20Speaker 2: worst quarterback I have maybe watched all year. He was horrible.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's when you got to take the lead, go up
- 4:26Speaker 2: by 20 points plus on this guy. I get Oregon
- 4:28Speaker 2: defense is okay, decent, whatever. But they're not great. That's
- 4:34Speaker 2: why I think they lost the game. It wouldn't have
- 4:35Speaker 2: mattered if Viola came in. If you just go out
- 4:37Speaker 2: there and stop on the throat. That's what this team
- 4:39Speaker 2: doesn't have is stop on the throat mentality right there.
- 4:43Speaker 2: They can never... Just jump on a team when they
- 4:46Speaker 2: need to. Or get that feeling, hey, let's go up
- 4:48Speaker 2: here big time. Which comes into Holgerson. Dude, coach the
- 4:52Speaker 2: game like, let's get up good 20 points here. And
- 4:54Speaker 2: then you can start coaching like a little wimp. But
- 4:56Speaker 2: I think he starts... When they got 7, 10 points, whatever.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Is when he kind of backs off, it feels like
- 5:03Speaker 2: to me. But... And I do think Holgerson is hopefully...
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think he is still a D silence coordinator. I
- 5:17Speaker 2: think he works on stuff. Matt rule. I'm still not
- 5:20Speaker 2: sure as a good coach or good, good head coach here.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I don't know if he really knows what's going on
- 5:24Speaker 2: in the field, but I think all of a sudden
- 5:25Speaker 2: actually knows what's going on. I think there is by
- 5:27Speaker 2: the way, he's going to figure out a way to
- 5:28Speaker 2: get this run game going. Um, I've saw Holgerson can,
- 5:34Speaker 2: can make improvements and adjustments during the season. I think
- 5:37Speaker 2: he's going to figure out to get, how to get
- 5:39Speaker 2: this run game going. I think it falls back on
- 5:41Speaker 2: the old line. Now, if you need to, do a
- 5:44Speaker 2: little misdirections, do whatever. I don't know how he's going
- 5:48Speaker 2: to do it because of the O-lines. Not great again.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I think it's been masked a lot by Calandria's ability
- 5:56Speaker 2: to move. So, yeah, he's been working on that all week,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I hope. This bye week is going to be hopefully
- 6:06Speaker 2: hell for the rest of the players at practice. I
- 6:08Speaker 2: think Monday definitely was because Matt Rule was all fired up.
- 6:10Speaker 2: But then it could be Thursday, Friday where he's like,
- 6:13Speaker 2: all hippity-hoorah again, and nothing's wrong. No, this week needs
- 6:18Speaker 2: to be, we can't lose games like that. And just
- 6:23Speaker 2: absolute hell for the players after what they put on
- 6:27Speaker 2: the field there. That's, I thought Iowa beating us in
- 6:32Speaker 2: the lead eight last year, or sweet 16, was one
- 6:39Speaker 2: of the biggest nut kicks I've had as a fan. No,
- 6:42Speaker 2: Dylan Morello doing what he did, You couldn't have scripted
- 6:45Speaker 2: any worse. That guy coming in off the bench and
- 6:48Speaker 2: beating us, that was Nebraska fans' worst nightmare, and it happened. Embarrassing. Now,
- 6:55Speaker 2: Rob Orridge, I want to talk about you a little
- 6:58Speaker 2: bit here, and this comes down to rule, too, here
- 7:00Speaker 2: a little bit, but I'm not really that mad at
- 7:03Speaker 2: you because the defense has been so much better than
- 7:06Speaker 2: what I expected this year, but how do you not...
- 7:11Speaker 2: We know Ryola's just a big old Pillsbury Doughboy back there.
- 7:16Speaker 2: He can't run. How are you not just blitzing the
- 7:20Speaker 2: absolute crap out of this guy? If you give that time,
- 7:24Speaker 2: if you give that guy time, I think he's an
- 7:26Speaker 2: okay quarterback. Even, I'd say good quarterback. He can kind
- 7:31Speaker 2: of pick you apart if you give him time. If
- 7:33Speaker 2: you start blitzing him, rattling him, that's when he starts...
- 7:41Speaker 2: throwing just terrible passes and terrible picks like we saw
- 7:44Speaker 2: last year. If you give him time, he can pick
- 7:46Speaker 2: you apart a little bit, especially with the wide receivers
- 7:47Speaker 2: Oregon has. I mean, he was dropping dimes on that
- 7:50Speaker 2: fourth quarter there. I'm not going to rip on Orch
- 7:54Speaker 2: too much here, but that's because I think the three
- 7:59Speaker 2: quarters before that were on rule and holders and not
- 8:01Speaker 2: stop my throats and put him in that situation. But
- 8:05Speaker 2: why you don't blitz him? Beyond me. You just let
- 8:08Speaker 2: him sit back there and pick you apart? That's what
- 8:10Speaker 2: Ryla wanted, and that's what happened. They lost that game.
- 8:15Speaker 2: This also falls on Rule. How do you not go
- 8:17Speaker 2: up there and tell the dude, hey, I've coached this guy.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Because Orch wasn't here with Ryla. Matt Rule was the
- 8:28Speaker 2: last two years. How do you not take over everything
- 8:31Speaker 2: and say, hey, I've coached this guy. I know how
- 8:33Speaker 2: to defend him. Nope. You just let it sit back
- 8:35Speaker 2: and happen. Again, Matt Rule, I think you're kind of
- 8:37Speaker 2: a pussy. You just sit back and let it happen
- 8:39Speaker 2: is your theme. The theme of this podcast is we're
- 8:42Speaker 2: all tired of it. Let's prove it. These next three games,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I think, are huge. You have to beat Washington, Illinois,
- 8:52Speaker 2: and Rutgers to keep. Because I think we've proven that
- 8:56Speaker 2: we're better than these teams. And we can beat them.
- 8:59Speaker 2: And then we go right into going into Ohio State.
- 9:03Speaker 2: And Ohio State doesn't have a quarterback. Which is insane.
- 9:06Speaker 2: So he's out for the year. So then go beat
- 9:08Speaker 2: Ohio State. And then we all know what's going to
- 9:11Speaker 2: happen against Iowa. We're going to get our ass kicked
- 9:12Speaker 2: and everyone hopes we're going to get killed. But that's
- 9:14Speaker 2: all right. I think if anything less than eight wins
- 9:18Speaker 2: this year is a complete failure. I think it's... If
- 9:31Speaker 2: you can't beat these Washington-Illinois Rutgers teams yet with the
- 9:35Speaker 2: talent that Nebraska has shown so far, I think that's
- 9:39Speaker 2: more of an indictment on rule right there that he
- 9:41Speaker 2: just can't figure out how to win yet. Because Washington,
- 9:48Speaker 2: I thought was actually really good. They're horrible now. Illinois
- 9:51Speaker 2: is bad. Rutgers is bad. I get Illinois Rutgers on
- 9:54Speaker 2: the road. Go out there and win these freaking games.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Let's get tonight. wins for a season. You've got to
- 10:03Speaker 2: win these if you're Ruel. Talent-wise, we're way better than
- 10:07Speaker 2: these teams. Eventually, talent has to prove it. Go out
- 10:12Speaker 2: there and win these games is all I'm saying. Prove it.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Prove it, Ruel. Now I want to talk about the NBA.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I'm not going to because you know what? I'm still
- 10:21Speaker 2: pissed about the Celtics last night. Maybe next week I'll
- 10:24Speaker 2: talk about the NBA. I don't talk about it right now. Okay,
- 10:27Speaker 2: so my pick of the week is Ole Miss plus
- 10:32Speaker 2: three against Texas. I don't know what this line is.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Arch Manning, again, sucks. Terrible. He's horrible. They're going to
- 10:38Speaker 2: bench him. I hope they keep him in because that
- 10:40Speaker 2: means Texas is going to keep sucking. I think Steve
- 10:41Speaker 2: Garkeesian is a little pussy too. You think Rose is
- 10:46Speaker 2: a little pussy? Steve Garkeesian is an idiot. He doesn't
- 10:50Speaker 2: know what he's doing at Texas. Florida goes in and
- 10:53Speaker 2: beat him back spec here, which, how about that? Florida
- 10:56Speaker 2: beating Texas two years in a row. Wow, that's crazy.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Everyone's like, oh, Arch Mayne's still this, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:03Speaker 2: He's horrible. Whenever NFL team drafts him, good luck. So, yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Take Ole Miss plus three. You know what? Matt Rule,
- 11:12Speaker 2: be room for some asses by me. All right. Everyone
- 11:15Speaker 2: have a good wacky-dacky Wednesday.
