- 0:03Speaker 1: Day thirteen of training camp. Here, how are we feeling?
- 0:06Speaker 1: Two weeks in training camp?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Is great? The shade makes all the difference in the world.
- 0:11Speaker 3: That's great. It's over.
- 0:13Speaker 2: So I see you.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Welcome in to Jags. I'm presented by Field's Auto Group.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Happy to have you here today. I'm kind Annie Stevens,
- 0:37Speaker 1: Brian Text, and John Osier with us. As John mentioned,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we're at the end of training camp. If you can't tell,
- 0:42Speaker 1: we're a little we're a little tired, but we're excited.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Well, they added a day, right, did you say they
- 0:46Speaker 2: addited day?
- 0:46Speaker 1: They did add a day. Sorry, I should have mentioned
- 0:48Speaker 1: that for fans, they did add a day. Next Tuesday
- 0:50Speaker 1: will be an open practice, So if you do want
- 0:52Speaker 1: to get out here, that's your last chance. I don't
- 0:53Speaker 1: know if tickets are still available, but definitely go check
- 0:55Speaker 1: that out because I think they just added it recently,
- 0:57Speaker 1: so there should still be some spots left. So if
- 0:59Speaker 1: you want to see him in training camp, you got
- 1:00Speaker 1: one more day to do it if you're not coming today,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and we're just getting ready for the preseason, which is exciting.
- 1:06Speaker 1: At this point, we'll have a little bit of game
- 1:07Speaker 1: action to.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Talk about fighting. Yeah, and going to Dallas to take
- 1:10Speaker 2: on a team that last year was one of the
- 1:12Speaker 2: highest scoring teams in football, which is a good opportunity
- 1:15Speaker 2: for Mike Caldwell and his defense. In the same token,
- 1:18Speaker 2: they got after the passer and they've led the league
- 1:21Speaker 2: in takeaways the last two years, So it's good for
- 1:22Speaker 2: Press Taylor in the offense.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Be a nice tune up, it'll be. It'll be a
- 1:26Speaker 3: good little eight.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Or nine minutes.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Listen, there's some there's some to go to after that
- 1:31Speaker 1: as well, and that's we're gonna start with our big things.
- 1:32Speaker 1: We're starting with depth today because, as you mention, we're
- 1:35Speaker 1: probably gonna see the starters for maybe one drive or two,
- 1:38Speaker 1: but that means we get to finally see some of
- 1:40Speaker 1: these young players. They had a ton of draft picks,
- 1:42Speaker 1: they got a bunch of undrafted free agents here, and
- 1:44Speaker 1: Doug talked a little bit about building that depth in
- 1:46Speaker 1: the defense, especially with these young guys, is what they're
- 1:48Speaker 1: gonna have to do going forward for this team, and
- 1:50Speaker 1: they'll finally get a look at some of those young
- 1:52Speaker 1: guys in game action on Saturday.
- 1:54Speaker 5: You know, we're encouraged by the young guys. You know
- 1:56Speaker 5: that we've brought onto the team, and that even the
- 2:00Speaker 5: young guys from last year. You know, you look at
- 2:03Speaker 5: you know, Chad Mooma as a young second year linebacker
- 2:05Speaker 5: who's gonna get plenty of you know, plenty of time
- 2:09Speaker 5: not only in preseason but the regular season. You look
- 2:11Speaker 5: at the young secondary guys who are gonna get a
- 2:15Speaker 5: lot of opportunities this spring or this, uh, this this
- 2:19Speaker 5: training camp, and that's encouraging, and it gives you depth
- 2:23Speaker 5: on special teams, you know, and there's some there's some
- 2:25Speaker 5: key roles there that we can fill. So I think
- 2:28Speaker 5: we're in a better position than we were a year ago, uh,
- 2:31Speaker 5: depth wise, And it'll be you know, it'll be difficult
- 2:35Speaker 5: at the end to make some some challenging, you know decisions.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So the final score of this game is obviously not
- 2:40Speaker 1: going to matter. But what do you guys look for
- 2:42Speaker 1: in terms of seeing some of the younger players out there?
- 2:44Speaker 1: Is it just technique? Is it you know, picking up
- 2:46Speaker 1: the schemes or what do you kind of look for
- 2:48Speaker 1: in the preseason?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, can they do what they did on the practice field? Right? So,
- 2:51Speaker 2: Tyler Lacy the last couple of days has looked like
- 2:54Speaker 2: Kalais Campbell I'm exaggerating, but he's you know, he's tall,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and he's long, and he's strong, and he's gotten some
- 2:59Speaker 2: great rush. Okay, go do it against them, Ben tram
- 3:02Speaker 2: Miller has flashed, right, can you do it against the Cowboys?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Pick it up and take it to Dallas with you
- 3:08Speaker 2: and do it there. And that's kind of what I'm
- 3:10Speaker 2: looking for.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I've been talking about Garrett Prince for
- 3:14Speaker 4: a couple of months, and I think we all have
- 3:16Speaker 4: because we had a good feeling that they liked him
- 3:19Speaker 4: a lot.
- 3:21Speaker 3: He's been really.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Good in the red zone at times. He's been really
- 3:24Speaker 4: good on certain routes. I think he would love and
- 3:30Speaker 4: you would love to see him sort of back that
- 3:31Speaker 4: up with a few catches.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Look like he's doing it in games against things. I
- 3:35Speaker 3: have no dabt he will.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Some reason to think he won't, But that's what you
- 3:38Speaker 4: want to see guys who there is a little bit
- 3:41Speaker 4: of a difference. He used a cliche when the lights
- 3:43Speaker 4: come on. You want to see guys be able to
- 3:45Speaker 4: perform in the.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Lights are on.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And I'll give you one area specifically that I'm focused
- 3:49Speaker 2: on because I've been saying that I think it is
- 3:51Speaker 2: one of the deepest groups in the league is the
- 3:52Speaker 2: offensive line. Right, Let's see if Blake Hans can step
- 3:56Speaker 2: in there and play well and be a guy a
- 3:58Speaker 2: jar on the shelf, so to speak, a guy that
- 3:59Speaker 2: you can legitimately count on. There are a number of
- 4:03Speaker 2: young guys on that side of the ball. Let's see
- 4:06Speaker 2: if they can play well and be guys that you think, okay,
- 4:10Speaker 2: we can go ten on the offensive line.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I'm excited to see special teams a little bit too,
- 4:14Speaker 1: because obviously some of those people that may not start
- 4:16Speaker 1: on defense, they'll start out on special teams. And also
- 4:19Speaker 1: Parker Washington may be getting some punt returns, kick returns.
- 4:22Speaker 1: See what he's able to do. We've seen him take
- 4:24Speaker 1: que practice at that in training camp so far, so
- 4:28Speaker 1: hopefully see that a little bit of game action what
- 4:29Speaker 1: is available there. Our second big thing today is a
- 4:33Speaker 1: learning curve. So we heard from Anton Harrison yesterday, the
- 4:37Speaker 1: number one pick this year, and he will be playing.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Doug did tell us he will play with the starters
- 4:41Speaker 1: and maybe a little bit longer in the game on Saturday.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But during that availability he talked a little bit about
- 4:46Speaker 1: Brandon Sheriff. I think John you may have asked him
- 4:48Speaker 1: this question because he grew up in Washington, DC and
- 4:50Speaker 1: Sheriff played for the Commanders, and he said he really
- 4:54Speaker 1: has been appreciating that relationship with him and he's learned
- 4:56Speaker 1: so much from someone he watched growing up.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Definitely that was a guy.
- 5:02Speaker 6: Watching him growing up.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He played for my hometown team, So watching him growing
- 5:06Speaker 1: up all part of the year is now playing beside him.
- 5:09Speaker 6: This is great. Trying to learn from him every day
- 5:11Speaker 6: and just copy what he do every day to make
- 5:13Speaker 6: myself great.
- 5:14Speaker 2: John.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We know that's a great group on the offensive line,
- 5:16Speaker 1: but no doubt they're really helping him grow and just
- 5:19Speaker 1: kind of pick up what's going on with the team.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I think sometimes in the media we can sort of
- 5:25Speaker 4: overblow leadership. Sometimes leadership is, hey, if you're winning, everybody's
- 5:31Speaker 4: a leader because everybody's happy, right. But I think in
- 5:33Speaker 4: this case, a young player next to a guy who
- 5:37Speaker 4: not only has made five Pro Bowls, so his leadership
- 5:40Speaker 4: he doesn't have to say it, but the way he
- 5:43Speaker 4: carries himself every day, the professionalism, you're right next to him,
- 5:47Speaker 4: right next to him on the field. I think in
- 5:49Speaker 4: this case, my guess is when hopefully everything works out.
- 5:53Speaker 4: We're talking to Anton Harrison in eight years and he's
- 5:56Speaker 4: a pro bowler. He will still talk about lessons learning
- 5:59Speaker 4: from and Sheriff this year. It doesn't always happen in
- 6:03Speaker 4: the NFL that way, but boy, what an edge for
- 6:05Speaker 4: Anton Harrison.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Well, it's a good thing that Brandon Sheriff doesn't have
- 6:07Speaker 2: to say something for him to learn, because Brandon is
- 6:09Speaker 2: not a big talker. But he does set the tone,
- 6:12Speaker 2: he sets the tempo. He's a tough guy, and offensive
- 6:15Speaker 2: line requires those those sorts of players. And I think
- 6:19Speaker 2: that the way that he goes about preparing every day
- 6:21Speaker 2: to get ready. I mean, when you go to five
- 6:22Speaker 2: Pro Bowls, you've learned a lot. And so Harrison does
- 6:25Speaker 2: have that distinct opportunity we all do. There's someone in
- 6:29Speaker 2: your career and your career in mind that taught us
- 6:31Speaker 2: just by the way that they worked. And I think
- 6:33Speaker 2: that for Anton Harrison to have someone legitimately great next
- 6:36Speaker 2: to him, it's good for the Jacks.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I think Harrison's going about it the right way as well.
- 6:40Speaker 1: He also mentioned he's like, Oh, I'm one to ask
- 6:42Speaker 1: questions all the time, Like I'm not scared to ask
- 6:44Speaker 1: what's going on I'm bugging everybody and trying to, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: absorb information from everyone around him.
- 6:49Speaker 2: It's funny have the same feel about him that I
- 6:51Speaker 2: had about Juwan Taylor. Right when Juwan stepped out on
- 6:54Speaker 2: the field, you knew this guy could play. How good
- 6:56Speaker 2: he was going to be was up for debate, right,
- 7:00Speaker 2: but you could tell that he belonged. Feel the same
- 7:03Speaker 2: thing about Anton Harrison. And that says a lot because
- 7:06Speaker 2: Taylor is a twenty million dollars a year guy.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Now coaches love to use that awful phrase, Hey, a
- 7:10Speaker 4: guy's all about ball. You know, that's become a thing
- 7:12Speaker 4: in the last five or six years of people say.
- 7:15Speaker 4: But with Harrison, when I did the ozone podcast with
- 7:20Speaker 4: him and talked to him from maybe twenty minutes during that,
- 7:23Speaker 4: you get the idea that this guy really doesn't I
- 7:26Speaker 4: love the draft. I still say he didn't show up
- 7:28Speaker 4: in a tie and all the you know, he he
- 7:32Speaker 4: just likes to play football. He's a good kid who
- 7:35Speaker 4: wants one thing. He wants to be a good football player,
- 7:37Speaker 4: and he's enjoying it. In that sense, I think he's
- 7:41Speaker 4: kind of similar to Camp. You know, Cam's not very
- 7:44Speaker 4: big with the media, but teammates love Cams, he loves playing.
- 7:49Speaker 4: He's always the guy firing up. I think they're kind
- 7:51Speaker 4: of kindred spirits in that sense. Not that Walker Little
- 7:53Speaker 4: is not that guy, but you know, he reminds me
- 7:56Speaker 4: of that where people are going to gravitate to him
- 7:58Speaker 4: because he just loves what he's doing.
- 7:59Speaker 2: There's no phrase among Scouts top competitor, right. I mean
- 8:03Speaker 2: they're looking for guys who are at the very top
- 8:05Speaker 2: in terms of their competitive nature, and he is Cam
- 8:09Speaker 2: and perhaps Anton. When the lights go on and it's
- 8:13Speaker 2: time to play, they bring their best. Not everyone does.
- 8:16Speaker 1: That, that's true, so we know certainly you bring your
- 8:19Speaker 1: egg game every single Jags aam.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I think that's if I had one.
- 8:24Speaker 1: All right. Our final big thing is bright lights because
- 8:27Speaker 1: we're headed to Dallas on Saturday, and good or bad.
- 8:31Speaker 1: The Cowboys are always a topic of conversation, and obviously
- 8:34Speaker 1: the game against them last year, the Jags got the
- 8:36Speaker 1: upper hand at the end, which was great to see
- 8:38Speaker 1: and very fun. So what is it like when you
- 8:41Speaker 1: go to Dallas. I've never been, so just a little
- 8:43Speaker 1: bit of an explanation of just how much they are
- 8:47Speaker 1: the topic of conversation no matter what is going on.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Well, there's certainly that with the national media and there
- 8:54Speaker 4: it's still a very covered team in an era there's
- 9:00Speaker 4: not as much media that covers most teams day to day.
- 9:04Speaker 4: There's still a contingent and still high perch situation in
- 9:06Speaker 4: that it's a I think Jerry's world in AT and
- 9:10Speaker 4: T Stadium is sort of exactly what you'd expect it.
- 9:13Speaker 4: He built that, and the interest in the Cowboys is
- 9:16Speaker 4: such that there's a super Bowl feel. I'm exaggerating that,
- 9:20Speaker 4: but there's a super Bowl feel to every game. Everything
- 9:23Speaker 4: is glitz and glitter. It will not disappoint, and you
- 9:29Speaker 4: know it's I wouldn't put it with the traditional stadiums
- 9:34Speaker 4: of places to go. I prefer Lambeau or Soldier Field
- 9:37Speaker 4: or places with some history of when I was young,
- 9:40Speaker 4: which was a long time ago. But if you were
- 9:45Speaker 4: wanting to see a stadium, that's sort of the ultimate entertainment.
- 9:52Speaker 4: With apologies to SOFI, which is obviously more expensive, and
- 9:55Speaker 4: it's like it's like a huge spaceship. This is probably
- 10:00Speaker 4: the pinnacle in terms of just glitz.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Right you ever walked into the Cosmo Hotel on the
- 10:04Speaker 2: Strip in Las.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Vegas for going with Vegas comparisons. I already can imagine this.
- 10:08Speaker 2: It's like going in there. Yeah, it is elegant, it
- 10:13Speaker 2: is wild the scene because it is all about the glitz.
- 10:18Speaker 2: It is all about the Cowboys. And to his credit,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Jerry Jones doesn't care whether it's good news or bad news.
- 10:25Speaker 2: If it's news about the Dallas Cowboys, it's news. And
- 10:29Speaker 2: he has that sort of mentality. He's never been shy
- 10:32Speaker 2: to be controversial or if players who say things, He
- 10:35Speaker 2: is that, Hey, all the world is at the Cowboys,
- 10:40Speaker 2: you know, doorstep and let it come in. And I
- 10:42Speaker 2: love going there because I just think it's got a
- 10:44Speaker 2: distinct atmosphere, you know, not like Lambeau, but like Lambeau.
- 10:47Speaker 2: When you go to Lambea, there's nothing else like it.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Well, he didn't want to build Lambeau. He wanted to
- 10:51Speaker 4: build oh Okay Protects Cathedral to football and entertainment, and
- 10:56Speaker 4: that's really what it is.
- 10:57Speaker 2: He wanted to do something different and he did. The
- 11:00Speaker 2: Cowboys are They're their own side show, they are their
- 11:03Speaker 2: own circus.
- 11:04Speaker 1: All right, Well we're heading to the circus on Saturday,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and we're gonna get a little sneak peek. We're talking
- 11:09Speaker 1: going behind enemy lines, if you will, and talking to
- 11:11Speaker 1: see what the Cowboys are all about. Get you a
- 11:13Speaker 1: preview of Saturday's matchups. So stay with us and we'll
- 11:16Speaker 1: have a guest coming up. Welcome back to jag Zam.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It's Thursday, August tenth. We mentioned it's the twelfth day
- 11:28Speaker 1: of training camp. I'm losing track at this point, our
- 11:31Speaker 1: thirteenth day. I apologize, but we got a game coming
- 11:34Speaker 1: up and that's the best part. So finally preseason game one,
- 11:37Speaker 1: we're gonna get to see some of these young guys.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So we do want to talk a little bit about
- 11:40Speaker 1: the Cowboys because we haven't been necessarily game planning a
- 11:42Speaker 1: ton because it's the preseason. It's really about player development.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So Brian brought us from you know, Cowboys Insider one
- 11:49Speaker 1: O five three of the fan knows a little bit.
- 11:51Speaker 1: When I say Cowboys insider, I think I'm under selling
- 11:53Speaker 1: it because I.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Know you're way under selling.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I think you know a lot, Brian, and we appreciate
- 11:57Speaker 1: you joining us here today. Are you as excited as
- 11:59Speaker 1: we are for the pre season?
- 12:01Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 12:01Speaker 7: And I'm just just like you guys, and I'm forgetting what.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Day it is for training camp.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 12:07Speaker 6: So, yeah, it's kind of crazy that way, but great
- 12:11Speaker 6: to be with you guys.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us. What are you guys looking
- 12:15Speaker 1: for in training camp at this point? Are you going
- 12:17Speaker 1: to be trotting out any starters? We just heard that
- 12:19Speaker 1: the starters are going to get about one drive for us.
- 12:22Speaker 1: But are you kind of just trying to keep everybody
- 12:24Speaker 1: healthy at this point?
- 12:26Speaker 7: Well, I think what you need to do is take
- 12:29Speaker 7: the jags and points if you guys are playing sard
- 12:32Speaker 7: or so.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Yeah, that's Mike.
- 12:37Speaker 7: McCarthy's all about kind of take take taking care of
- 12:40Speaker 7: his players, and he's done that throughout through training camp
- 12:45Speaker 7: and he's going to continue to.
- 12:46Speaker 6: Do it in the preseason as well.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Brian, I got a note. First of all, good morning,
- 12:52Speaker 2: Good morning to you.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Brian.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Are you the guy who came up with the term
- 12:55Speaker 2: lionbacker to describe Michael Parkinsons? That sounds like you.
- 13:00Speaker 6: No, I'm not that creat that created Brian. You know that.
- 13:03Speaker 2: All right? So last year, you guys the Cowboys, oh
- 13:08Speaker 2: what sixty five sacks, lead the league in pressures, lead
- 13:12Speaker 2: the league in takeaways, offense scores twenty seven and a
- 13:15Speaker 2: half points a game. Quarterback has seven or eight really
- 13:18Speaker 2: good games in a row to put yourself in a
- 13:20Speaker 2: position to win the division and go to the playoffs.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And you went to the playoffs. What's the difference this year?
- 13:26Speaker 2: What has to happen this year for the Cowboys to
- 13:28Speaker 2: actualize all those incredible stats and win a championship.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Well, I'll tell you this, Brian.
- 13:37Speaker 7: This offensive line is a little bit of a mess
- 13:41Speaker 7: right now. And with the sack Martin to hold up,
- 13:45Speaker 7: it's made very difficult for the right side of the
- 13:48Speaker 7: offense offensive line to function, and they're trying to get
- 13:53Speaker 7: back Carrot's steel so he can can be part of
- 13:58Speaker 7: what they're doing. Coming off a knee injury, it's been
- 14:01Speaker 7: very tough on him.
- 14:02Speaker 6: He's had some good practice, he's had some bad practice.
- 14:06Speaker 6: But they really do miss Zack Martin, and they're only
- 14:11Speaker 6: going to be as good as this offensive line, and
- 14:14Speaker 6: right now it's not good enough.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Hey, Brian, John Oser here, good to talk to you again.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Hey John.
- 14:22Speaker 4: It seems like every year there's this incredible pressure, maybe
- 14:27Speaker 4: rightfully so, some created by expectations and even Jerry that
- 14:33Speaker 4: the Cowboys this should be the Cowboys year. You seem
- 14:37Speaker 4: like it seems like it's.
- 14:39Speaker 3: There every year.
- 14:42Speaker 4: What's different about this team? Is that there this year?
- 14:46Speaker 4: Is that realistic? Is there any feel like this is
- 14:49Speaker 4: the year? You know what I'm getting at. It just
- 14:51Speaker 4: seems like it's there every year and then something happens.
- 14:55Speaker 4: What's your assessment on that? On a bad question?
- 14:59Speaker 6: No, it's not a bad question.
- 15:01Speaker 7: With Cherry, You're always going to get that optimism.
- 15:07Speaker 6: And it has to do with his age.
- 15:11Speaker 7: He's eighty years old now, and it's he realizes he
- 15:15Speaker 7: doesn't have many more of these campaigns and so as
- 15:20Speaker 7: bad as that sounds, it's the truth.
- 15:24Speaker 6: So he has to do.
- 15:26Speaker 7: Everything in his power to try and sell out and
- 15:30Speaker 7: win that championship. But he also knows there's that pressure
- 15:35Speaker 7: from the fan base that they haven't been to an
- 15:39Speaker 7: NFC championship game or a super Bowl in almost thirty years,
- 15:45Speaker 7: and he feels like but he also understands that this
- 15:52Speaker 7: league doesn't give you, give you anything. But he feels
- 15:57Speaker 7: like he's built, like he's built a roster that can
- 16:00Speaker 7: compete with no Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.
- 16:06Speaker 6: The NFC conference.
- 16:09Speaker 7: Is a little bit open now because the quarterbacks, So
- 16:15Speaker 7: he feels like he's got a good enough team to
- 16:18Speaker 7: compete with San Francisco and Philadelphia.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Brian, I just want to kind of close things out
- 16:25Speaker 1: because we like to talk a little bit about how
- 16:28Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence is perceived nationally. I think last year maybe
- 16:31Speaker 1: people were questioning whether he was going to be what
- 16:34Speaker 1: he was going to be, and then the end of
- 16:35Speaker 1: last season, now he's getting a little more recognition, a
- 16:37Speaker 1: little more hype. What's your point of view, having, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: played the Jaguars last year and then seeing the end
- 16:43Speaker 1: of the season and now playing them again on Saturday.
- 16:47Speaker 6: I'll tell you what. My best friend, Doug Peterson.
- 16:51Speaker 7: Has been godsend to him and I love Doug like
- 16:56Speaker 7: a brother.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Every game, you guys guys won. I sent him a text.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Message and he was so happy how Trevor played, and
- 17:08Speaker 7: he's in. Doug's done a great job any quarterbacks he's
- 17:12Speaker 7: ever been with. And so I'm happy for Trevor and
- 17:18Speaker 7: I'm happy for Doug, and I'm happy for the folks
- 17:21Speaker 7: that folks in Jacksonville, because you guys got a winner
- 17:25Speaker 7: in the quarterback of the coach and that's going to
- 17:28Speaker 7: make all the all the difference in the world.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And I got to jump in here real quick. At
- 17:32Speaker 2: some point you've got to come back.
- 17:33Speaker 6: You know.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Brian was with us in nineteen ninety eight, lived out
- 17:36Speaker 2: near Sawgrass and fell in love with Jacksonville. Went home
- 17:39Speaker 2: to be with you know, his family in Dallas. But
- 17:42Speaker 2: we just opened the new Miller Electric Center here. I mean,
- 17:44Speaker 2: you remember the cave right the dungeon that we all
- 17:47Speaker 2: worked in, and I know that you go through the Star,
- 17:50Speaker 2: which is in and of itself like going into you know,
- 17:53Speaker 2: the Belagio. But you need to come back to Jacksonville,
- 17:56Speaker 2: see some old friends and see this place.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Tell you what I did. I love Jacksonville. There were
- 18:04Speaker 6: some great times. Tom Coughlin was difficult to work for.
- 18:09Speaker 6: Sometimes we all live there.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Don't say yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 6: But I'd love to come back and see see you guys.
- 18:17Speaker 6: It looks beautiful.
- 18:18Speaker 7: I watched your practice on on TV the other day.
- 18:22Speaker 3: So very nice, Brian.
- 18:24Speaker 4: I love the vintage pennants behind you. Is that a
- 18:27Speaker 4: picture of Sexton back there? And or or or where
- 18:32Speaker 4: is the picture.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Of Brian on your wall? Is it off camera?
- 18:35Speaker 6: It is off camera camera?
- 18:38Speaker 7: And it was he and I one night eating all
- 18:41Speaker 7: the crab legs you could eat.
- 18:43Speaker 6: I think we're there for four hours crab legs together.
- 18:49Speaker 2: There's a there's a picture of it.
- 18:51Speaker 6: There is there is a picture.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Brian, Thanks buddy, you're the best.
- 18:54Speaker 6: Bro.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Appreciate you appreciate it.
- 18:59Speaker 2: You know, Rerickquid, you and John will attest this and
- 19:02Speaker 2: you too. You make friends as you go through this business,
- 19:05Speaker 2: people that come through whatever organization you're working in or
- 19:08Speaker 2: in the media, when you're together, when your teams play,
- 19:11Speaker 2: and it's those memories that you know that make you rich.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That's that's that's that's the unspoken payment for us in
- 19:19Speaker 2: this game that go through it. You know, you you
- 19:22Speaker 2: rarely get rich in this game unless you're a coach
- 19:24Speaker 2: your player, but not on you do have the opportunity
- 19:27Speaker 2: to feel rich because of the people that you know.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And Bro, it's one of those guys for me.
- 19:32Speaker 1: People in the stories. That's what it's about.
- 19:33Speaker 4: For sure.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I have no friends, You have no friends.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You have stories, though you appreciate stories.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Of people not befriending me. So that's my side of it.
- 19:42Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna go to break for quick break
- 19:44Speaker 1: and we'll be right back previewing Saturday's matchup against Dallas
- 19:48Speaker 1: Training Camp Underway. Welcome back, to JAG's Am Today's dition
- 20:00Speaker 1: presented by Field's Auto Group Jacksonville Step up to Luxury
- 20:03Speaker 1: Fieldsauto dot Com got game day on Saturday. It's preseason.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I don't care. We're gonna act like it's real game
- 20:10Speaker 1: day because why not? He will? He won't, he might.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Let's bring back a little bit of segment as we
- 20:15Speaker 1: preview things. We do know we're going to see the
- 20:17Speaker 1: starters for a little bit, So Brian, I'll let you
- 20:19Speaker 1: go first.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Well, I went with Garrett Prince because I think he'll
- 20:22Speaker 2: probably make a finger tip catch in the back of
- 20:24Speaker 2: the end zone and electrify everybody. He's done that on
- 20:27Speaker 2: several occasions in this training camp so far. He's made
- 20:31Speaker 2: plays that make you go wow, and then you look
- 20:33Speaker 2: and see he's six five and two forty and long
- 20:36Speaker 2: arms and runs well, and I think you can go
- 20:38Speaker 2: out and play well. I mean, I don't think he's
- 20:40Speaker 2: gonna remind anybody of Evan Ingram. Evan is a guy
- 20:44Speaker 2: who came into the league as a first round pick
- 20:46Speaker 2: and has, as I've watched him over the last couple
- 20:49Speaker 2: of days of practice, really taken his game and polished
- 20:52Speaker 2: it with this quarterback. But I think there's a role
- 20:54Speaker 2: for him, and I think that's what we might see
- 20:56Speaker 2: how they want to use Garrett Prince in what has
- 20:59Speaker 2: become a relatively deep tight end up.
- 21:03Speaker 1: John, where are you going with yours?
- 21:05Speaker 4: I went with Brenton Strange and he will play a
- 21:10Speaker 4: lot because I think the rookies are all going to
- 21:13Speaker 4: play a lot. He won't play a lot with Trevor Lawrence.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Maybe a few snaps, but I think the rookies are
- 21:20Speaker 4: going to play deep into the second quarter and maybe
- 21:22Speaker 4: even into the third, because it sounded to me from
- 21:25Speaker 4: listening to Doug they can wants to get them reps.
- 21:29Speaker 3: This kid might be good.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I mean, there was criticism when he was drafted because
- 21:35Speaker 4: I think he wasn't one of the guys that people
- 21:37Speaker 4: expected Michael Bay and then he went in the second round.
- 21:41Speaker 4: But I keep watching him and I'm told that he's
- 21:44Speaker 4: a better blocker than a receiver. And then every day
- 21:48Speaker 4: during training camp he makes a intermediate to difficult catch
- 21:54Speaker 4: and he never seems to drop him. And then he
- 21:57Speaker 4: had the stiff arm the other day that sort of
- 21:59Speaker 4: set people. I just see this guy. Think about the
- 22:03Speaker 4: players on this roster right now, hadn't happened enough over
- 22:07Speaker 4: the last decade, Devon, Hamilton Walker, little guys draft of
- 22:12Speaker 4: what was Devon fourth or third round? Uh, he was
- 22:15Speaker 4: a fourth round picker Walker in this in the second Well,
- 22:20Speaker 4: all of a sudden, these guys look like they might
- 22:23Speaker 4: be core guys and weren't necessarily guys that you thought
- 22:27Speaker 4: about a whole lot of rookies. That hasn't happened around
- 22:30Speaker 4: here much. I'm not saying Strange won't be good as
- 22:33Speaker 4: a rookie, but he he looks to me like one
- 22:37Speaker 4: of those guys who has a chance to be really
- 22:39Speaker 4: really good if he's doing this now, once he learns
- 22:42Speaker 4: how to play the position in this league. You know,
- 22:47Speaker 4: I think between him and Bigsby, you may have had
- 22:49Speaker 4: a really good day.
- 22:49Speaker 2: To check that he was the seventy third pick in
- 22:52Speaker 2: the third round in twenty twenty, Devon was it's a
- 22:55Speaker 2: third Yeah, good round pick. It's a good player.
- 22:57Speaker 3: So yeah, that level of player.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Uh, didn't feel like that was developing into core for
- 23:04Speaker 4: a long long time round here. A lot didn't happen
- 23:06Speaker 4: for a long time around here. But this guy and
- 23:09Speaker 4: Bigsby feel like they're following in that pattern. I'm excited
- 23:14Speaker 4: about seeing strange this year. By the way, as strange
- 23:16Speaker 4: as that may sound, I knew you were going there.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Have you stood in front of him to do an interview.
- 23:20Speaker 2: He is bigger than his numbers would suggest. Yeah, he's
- 23:24Speaker 2: a big body.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Are you saying they lie on those numbers.
- 23:26Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying. You know, size looks different on
- 23:28Speaker 2: different people, right, I mean six ' five three point
- 23:30Speaker 2: thirty looks completely different on someone who's tall as opposed
- 23:33Speaker 2: to someone you know, who's longer as opposed to wider.
- 23:36Speaker 2: He's one of those guys who he's a big guy,
- 23:39Speaker 2: and you look at the numbers, you go, okay, good size,
- 23:42Speaker 2: and then you see him the person, You're like, he's
- 23:43Speaker 2: bigger than I thought.
- 23:44Speaker 1: All right, you guys both went tight ends. I'm going
- 23:46Speaker 1: with sixteen because why not. We know he's gonna be
- 23:48Speaker 1: out there. I'm gonna say he will touch the ball.
- 23:50Speaker 1: They will score on the first drive of the game tomorrow.
- 23:53Speaker 1: He won't touch the ball after that, And I think,
- 23:56Speaker 1: or I'm hoping that the touchdown pass goes to Calvin Ridley,
- 23:59Speaker 1: because why not. Let's start out. Let's start really, you know,
- 24:03Speaker 1: I like to win. I like to compactly. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:08Speaker 1: we're keeping track from going forward. Absolutely. If you think
- 24:10Speaker 1: I'm not keeping tollies on this, we are. So yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 1: that's where'm going. I mean, and we want it to happen.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Let's let's speak it into existing.
- 24:18Speaker 4: It's easy sometimes to overlook the storylines that matter. But
- 24:24Speaker 4: I do think Trevor Lawrence, you want to see him
- 24:27Speaker 4: for your Jaguars fan.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Look like we've all been talking.
- 24:30Speaker 2: About so, he's been that way on the practice field.
- 24:32Speaker 1: He makes it look simple, So let's do it.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Have you seen him have a bad day.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I'm not going to say that. No, he's never had
- 24:38Speaker 1: a bad hair day. I know that much.
- 24:40Speaker 2: All right, stay with us, humidity, that's just so unlikely, right.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I know. All right, Say with this, we're gonna talk
- 24:45Speaker 1: a little bit more about the game, what we got
- 24:46Speaker 1: coming up this week for you, and we'll see you
- 24:48Speaker 1: have to break Jags fans. If you want customized Jaguars

- 25:08Speaker 1: I'm still excited for us, and we're gonna do the broadcast.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I'm on the radio broadcast for us to seek What
- 25:12Speaker 1: are you doing? You're doing TV. I'm doing sideline, so
- 25:14Speaker 1: I'll be walking around doing things. I don't know, listening
- 25:18Speaker 1: have you you know you've just dropping on conversations.
- 25:20Speaker 2: You said that you had not been to to Dallas An.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Have you been to Ford Field?
- 25:26Speaker 1: I have not. I'm very excited for Detroit. Don't get
- 25:28Speaker 1: me going on that.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I feel it's cool.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really cool. They took an old warehouse and
- 25:33Speaker 2: they built all the suites on one side of the
- 25:35Speaker 2: stadium into that old brick facade warehouse and then build
- 25:39Speaker 2: the rest of the dome around it. It's distinct, very cool.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm excited for Joint training Camp. I feel like you
- 25:43Speaker 1: always get a little bit something extra out there with
- 25:45Speaker 1: the competition.
- 25:46Speaker 2: You know, they're they're practicing with the lines of this
- 25:48Speaker 2: or the lines. You're practicing with the giants this.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Week, right, and they're already gonna be amped up and
- 25:52Speaker 1: then we're gonna go in and it's gonna be god
- 25:53Speaker 1: knows what. So I'm very excited to see that as well.
- 25:56Speaker 1: But yeah, so check out the broadcast will be on John.
- 25:58Speaker 1: You're doing your.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Thing, just you know a thing right in sports stores.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Love in training camp as you do.
- 26:03Speaker 4: As kidding aside, I joke about training camp. Training camps
- 26:08Speaker 4: terrific once you get into the grind of it and you're.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Used to it.
- 26:12Speaker 4: But it's better for it to be over because the
- 26:13Speaker 4: season's close.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yes, so that's my only we're leading up to Christmas.
- 26:17Speaker 1: We're very excited for the seasons is starting.
