- 0:00Speaker 1: And welcome back to hard Prison. The great crowd on
- 0:03Speaker 1: hand for Jim Moora, it's only August, but we're playing
- 0:06Speaker 1: football in ten days. I can't wait.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm jacked up.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I got to tell you this. This team is new
- 0:13Speaker 1: every year now. We were just talking about it during
- 0:15Speaker 1: the break. It's not like you build teams anymore. So
- 0:18Speaker 1: is that exciting to you and to some degree or
- 0:21Speaker 1: is that trepidation You're like, I don't.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Know what we got. No, it's exciting and you build them,
- 0:25Speaker 2: but you build them really fast. You don't develop them necessarily. Right.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It's different than it used to be, and it is exciting,
- 0:33Speaker 2: you know. It's almost like you got some new toys
- 0:35Speaker 2: and you've got guys that The thing about the portal
- 0:38Speaker 2: that's so is a positive. I mean there's negatives, but
- 0:41Speaker 2: that's a positive is that you know, a team like us,
- 0:43Speaker 2: we're able to go get guys that have played at
- 0:45Speaker 2: a high level, that are physically mature, that have been
- 0:48Speaker 2: in pressure environments, that we've been able to evaluate on tape,
- 0:51Speaker 2: and we know what they can do, what they're capable of.
- 0:55Speaker 2: They're not freshmen, you know, they understand what a college
- 0:58Speaker 2: environment's like. They understand how to how to manage their time,
- 1:01Speaker 2: how to get ready for a game motionally, physically, mentally,
- 1:05Speaker 2: And I've seen enough out of the guys that we
- 1:08Speaker 2: brought in to be, you know, pretty optimistic about about
- 1:12Speaker 2: this group. You know, look that we got to go
- 1:15Speaker 2: play and win games, right, We've got to go perform.
- 1:18Speaker 2: But their level of commitment has been outstanding, their work
- 1:23Speaker 2: ethic has been outstanding. So I'm excited about it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: You got to start with that for sure. Quick thing
- 1:28Speaker 1: on the schedule. We're gonna have questions in a second.
- 1:30Speaker 1: You're seven at home. You got FAU and Buffalo and
- 1:34Speaker 1: Temple Wake Forest, Rice, Georgia State got five away Maryland Duke.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We talked about Syracuse, u Abu Mass two by weeks,
- 1:41Speaker 1: which is kind of different. And two night games Georgia
- 1:44Speaker 1: State and FAU. What about those night games. That's kind
- 1:46Speaker 1: of exciting.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you're telling me things I don't know.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I know that's great. I mean I know that we
- 1:53Speaker 2: play I know our first three games, okay, And really
- 1:56Speaker 2: I didn't even know who we played for until you
- 1:59Speaker 2: just said it. I didn't know we had two buys
- 2:02Speaker 2: and I didn't know we had two night games. I
- 2:05Speaker 2: for the ambiance and the environment. I love a night game. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 2: for the recovery. I don't necessarily like it because it
- 2:13Speaker 2: cuts down the player recovery on the backside. And for
- 2:18Speaker 2: the coaches it's tough, you know, the next day, because
- 2:20Speaker 2: it doesn't matter if the game's over at three or
- 2:23Speaker 2: or at seven, you're in at six the next morning.
- 2:25Speaker 2: So but I do love the fact that we have
- 2:28Speaker 2: seven home games, So I think that's a It can
- 2:31Speaker 2: be a huge advantage to us if we as a
- 2:34Speaker 2: team go ahead and earn our fans back, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 2: and play exciting football and win games and you know,
- 2:40Speaker 2: give them a reason to come out and get excited.
- 2:43Speaker 1: All right, Ben Darnell's out there with the audience.
- 2:45Speaker 2: We have a question.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, thanking coach Bessela this year.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Thank you. Can you comment about any.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I L and how that exfects affects you can and
- 2:59Speaker 3: you and the whole landscape. I think we know about
- 3:04Speaker 3: n AL a little bit more in basketball, but how
- 3:08Speaker 3: it is affects you guys.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's everything. It's everything. It's it's become everything. You cannot win,
- 3:15Speaker 2: You cannot get players unless you can pay them, and
- 3:17Speaker 2: that is just the brutal facts and it could change.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You know, there's there's new legislation where there's going to
- 3:25Speaker 2: be revenue sharing with athletes, but there's still going to be,
- 3:28Speaker 2: you know, the need for athletics departments to go out
- 3:32Speaker 2: and you know, raise money that they can revenue share
- 3:35Speaker 2: with the players. But without the nil, without being able
- 3:39Speaker 2: to play pay players, you cannot compete anymore. And it
- 3:43Speaker 2: had happened really really, really quick. You know, I think
- 3:46Speaker 2: that these players now understand their value. They understand that
- 3:50Speaker 2: they're brand. You know, I, for one, believe they deserve
- 3:54Speaker 2: to get paid. They generate billions and billions of dollars
- 3:57Speaker 2: in profits for other people every single year while putting
- 4:01Speaker 2: their bodies on the line, and they love doing it.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And everyone says, well, they get a free education. Yeah
- 4:05Speaker 2: they do. But I would invite anybody, I would challenge
- 4:09Speaker 2: anyone to come and spend one week and you don't
- 4:12Speaker 2: even have to go to you can come to practice,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you don't have to practice, but just do what our
- 4:16Speaker 2: players do for one week. Besides, you'd like go run
- 4:19Speaker 2: on the treadmill or something for the time they're practicing.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And it is I mean, it's it's a brutal, brutal schedule,
- 4:25Speaker 2: and so but yeah, it's got the nils A. It's
- 4:31Speaker 2: a moving target number one, and it's a beast number two,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and it's it's mandatory that you have money to pay
- 4:36Speaker 2: these guys. I mean, even Danny. I guy was talking
- 4:38Speaker 2: to Danny the other day, and I'm not going to
- 4:40Speaker 2: go into the depths of our conversation because I don't
- 4:42Speaker 2: know that he'd want me to. But you know, we've
- 4:44Speaker 2: won back to back national championships, and his dependence on
- 4:48Speaker 2: the NIL is as much as it's ever been. So
- 4:51Speaker 2: imagine you're a team that's won back to back national
- 4:54Speaker 2: championships and now you're a football team that hasn't had
- 4:58Speaker 2: a lot of success lately, and and we got to
- 5:00Speaker 2: you know, you got to pay these guys.
- 5:02Speaker 3: It seems like almost a full time job for someone.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Do you have a coordinate or yeah, just does that.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We have collectives. We have two collectives and Mike. We
- 5:14Speaker 2: have a lot of a lot of people that have
- 5:16Speaker 2: done a ton of work and been very very helpful.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You know a lot of them. I'll just point out one,
- 5:23Speaker 2: and that's Mike Burton because I work closest with him
- 5:26Speaker 2: and he's kind of assumed control over the football end
- 5:32Speaker 2: of the Bleeding Blue for Good Collective and and that's
- 5:35Speaker 2: a not not for profit collective. So he's out, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 2: getting donations and people are giving their hard earned money,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you know, to see these eighteen year old nineteen twenty
- 5:44Speaker 2: twenty one. They're getting old enough, you know, because of COVID.
- 5:46Speaker 2: But these guys, you know, go go play us have
- 5:49Speaker 2: a chance to compete for him. And then uh, and
- 5:52Speaker 2: then there's the Demilio Collective, which is for profit and
- 5:56Speaker 2: Mark's been great as well, but uh yeah, it's come
- 6:00Speaker 2: a full time deal and you're gonna see athletic departments
- 6:03Speaker 2: now have to put people in place that solely do that.
- 6:06Speaker 2: It's becoming mandatory. And like I said, it's just changed
- 6:09Speaker 2: so fast, and you can't fight it. You know, you
- 6:13Speaker 2: have to embrace it, whether you like it or not,
- 6:15Speaker 2: whether you believe it or not. If you want to
- 6:17Speaker 2: win and you want to have the best, it takes
- 6:19Speaker 2: players to win. Players win. They're they're there who win.
- 6:23Speaker 2: You know, you gotta have players, you know you get
- 6:26Speaker 2: and you gotta pay them all.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Right time for a couple of questions, what do we
- 6:29Speaker 1: have over here?
- 6:30Speaker 2: A question from Kelvin, how you doing, coach? Well? Thanks,
- 6:34Speaker 2: how are you good?
- 6:35Speaker 4: Good? So my question is kind of loaded, but it
- 6:37Speaker 4: kind of relates to what you just said. As a
- 6:40Speaker 4: head coach, I'm sure you're always measuring in x's and
- 6:42Speaker 4: o's inches and yards, but for this season, with ten
- 6:47Speaker 4: days to go, this is being your third year.
- 6:50Speaker 2: What does the word legacy mean for you? Well, legacy
- 6:54Speaker 2: take a long, long, long, long long time to build.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And uh, you know, yes, I don't know.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Love that question. I used to think about, you know,
- 7:03Speaker 2: what I want my legacy to be, but I haven't
- 7:06Speaker 2: really stayed anywhere long enough to build a legacy. So
- 7:09Speaker 2: you know, we'll see where it goes. We'll see where
- 7:11Speaker 2: it goes. He's living in the moment and we love it.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Coach. Thank you, We appreciate it. At Jim Moore Best
- 7:19Speaker 1: of the Block, Maryland at College Park, Merrimack at Home Thanks
- 7:26Speaker 1: to Jim Moore. I'm Mike Chrispin and thanks for all
- 7:28Speaker 1: of you for coming out live here in Hearts
