- 0:09Speaker 1: The great Mel kiper Jr. Is with us. He was
- 0:12Speaker 1: the star of the NFL Draft. He always is. We'll
- 0:15Speaker 1: get to the draft. At a second, I was trying
- 0:16Speaker 1: to log onto the internet. I felt like melkuiper Jr.
- 0:19Speaker 1: For just a minute there because I couldn't get connected.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But it's on me. It's not it's not on Mel,
- 0:25Speaker 1: but Mel, it makes me happy. How happy it makes
- 0:28Speaker 1: you to see me? I mean, this is a career highlight.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It really is.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it should well be. I got a lot of
- 0:34Speaker 2: words of describes to I said, Uplifting is the word,
- 0:37Speaker 2: because he's always a great mood. When are you ever
- 0:39Speaker 2: not happy about talking about sports or something related to it?
- 0:43Speaker 2: So it's it's to me when I know I'm coming
- 0:45Speaker 2: on with you guys, I know I'm gonna be feeling
- 0:47Speaker 2: good during it and thereafter. So it's something I really
- 0:50Speaker 2: look forward to.
- 0:50Speaker 1: To answer your question about when I'm not happy, it's
- 0:53Speaker 1: usually around three forty five every single Sunday during the
- 0:56Speaker 1: football season, watch watching the Jets. Yes, I thought.
- 1:01Speaker 2: You're gonna say about one fifteen after kicking, but it
- 1:07Speaker 2: goes awry, right, Yeah, it's amazing. You gotta wait till
- 1:10Speaker 2: three forty five hope this year you have to wait
- 1:14Speaker 2: till three forty five, when some of these games are decided,
- 1:16Speaker 2: you might give you a little little hope for the future.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So if you can at least get the quarter to
- 1:20Speaker 2: four Eastern time.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Perhaps he is so close to a boat, He is
- 1:23Speaker 1: so close to crab cakes, He is so close to
- 1:25Speaker 1: baseball season. He could smell You could smell it right now.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I mean orange crushes, old bays everywhere. Then I got
- 1:31Speaker 2: the old base season everywhere there. You put old Bay
- 1:34Speaker 2: on anything, you can put it on anything, It's gonna
- 1:36Speaker 2: taste great. So, yes, we got the crab cakes, we
- 1:39Speaker 2: got the old Bay, we got the orange crushes. We're
- 1:41Speaker 2: just ready to have a good time.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well, speaking of crab cakes, as I was trying to
- 1:45Speaker 1: connect to the internet in a radio studio, I heard
- 1:48Speaker 1: mikey A and you having some sort of argument about crabcakes.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Mikey A, What was the genesis of this argument? What
- 1:54Speaker 1: happened here?
- 1:55Speaker 3: So Mel is known for three things in his off season,
- 2:00Speaker 3: which is the summer, and that is crabcakes, orange crushes,
- 2:03Speaker 3: and the boat. Yes, and obviously put me on a
- 2:06Speaker 3: boat with Mel Kuiper, and I'm gonna have a great time.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I think orange crushes are some of the best cocktails
- 2:11Speaker 3: you can have all summer long. But I'm not a
- 2:14Speaker 3: crabcake guy.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And Mel was like, you probably just didn't have the
- 2:18Speaker 2: right one. I was a little offended, was the word?
- 2:22Speaker 2: A little offended? Here at the Land of Pleasant Living,
- 2:25Speaker 2: Mikey would have a problem crabcake. I just said, yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you gotta get for the right place. I said, when
- 2:30Speaker 2: you come whenever you decide you want to come to
- 2:32Speaker 2: the Maryland, like I said to the Land of Pleasant Living,
- 2:34Speaker 2: I will make sure, Mikey, we get you some crab
- 2:36Speaker 2: cakes from variety of places. And you can decide whether
- 2:39Speaker 2: you just don't like crab cakes in general, or you
- 2:41Speaker 2: didn't like crabcakes. Where the establishment was you got it
- 2:45Speaker 2: when you were here, what two three years ago? Whenever?
- 2:46Speaker 1: It was all right? So is this an invite to
- 2:48Speaker 1: your house or somewhere close to your house, which.
- 2:50Speaker 2: One anywhere in Maryland. I will meet up with you, guys.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But you and by the way, just so you know,
- 2:57Speaker 2: the dress in DC next year. So I expect you
- 2:59Speaker 2: guys to be somewhere close by. You're gonna have plenty
- 3:02Speaker 2: of crab cakes. Next year if you come you decided
- 3:04Speaker 2: to be part of the twenty twenty seven NFL draft.
- 3:07Speaker 1: A little home game from mel you get an extra
- 3:08Speaker 1: room for me or huh.
- 3:11Speaker 2: We could everybody welcome?
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yes? Well, I was outraged because mcshaye told us he's
- 3:17Speaker 1: been invited to uh to the Malkiper compound and I
- 3:20Speaker 1: have not been invited. But I told you.
- 3:23Speaker 2: By the way I invited. Heyt I invite all these guys.
- 3:27Speaker 2: McShay got about one hundred invites. And how many times
- 3:29Speaker 2: it's been here zero? Okay? Zero? You can't say because
- 3:33Speaker 2: of the lack of an invite right now, many times
- 3:35Speaker 2: mcshay's invited me up there to Boston?
- 3:37Speaker 1: How many does zero? Yeah?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Okay, So it's a one way street with McShay. That's
- 3:41Speaker 2: just the way it is. But I'm okay with that.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But in terms of moving forward, guys, yes, I expect
- 3:46Speaker 2: I expect you guys to be able to watch wedding
- 3:50Speaker 2: crashers and realize what the favorite food served at wedding
- 3:53Speaker 2: crashers was. Okay, like you know it was crabcakes. Who
- 3:57Speaker 2: who don't love crabcakes? Right?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yes? Tailor put it on the phone.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Who thought mikey A doesn't like crabcakes, but that's what
- 4:03Speaker 2: sort of fine. We're going to change that. That's my
- 4:05Speaker 2: goal was to change that in twenty twenty six.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Okay, he likes them if they have bacon on him.
- 4:09Speaker 1: All right, Mel, you're from Baltimore. You love all things Baltimore,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you love the Baltimore Ravens. And I know you don't
- 4:19Speaker 1: want to praise Pittsburgh, but I am wondering, from your standpoint,
- 4:22Speaker 1: how was Pittsburgh as a host city for the NFL Draft,
- 4:26Speaker 1: Because I have to tell you, Mel, it looked amazing.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I was a little nervous going in because I'm a
- 4:30Speaker 2: raven guy and a lot of everybody everybody in Pittsburgh
- 4:32Speaker 2: knows that from my I did the Late Great Myron
- 4:34Speaker 2: Coke Show back in the day. Everybody knew I was
- 4:37Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Colts before that. So when we
- 4:40Speaker 2: went there, it was amazing. Yeah. I thought Green Bay incredible.
- 4:45Speaker 2: The people that are so welcoming and so nice and
- 4:47Speaker 2: so respectful. Pittsburgh was equally what Green Bay was. And
- 4:51Speaker 2: I had my purple, had my purple one. Day one,
- 4:54Speaker 2: purple one, and day two didn't matter. I had nothing
- 4:56Speaker 2: thrown at me, nothing yelled at me, nothing to Raga,
- 5:00Speaker 2: Toy said. They were just happy to talk football. They
- 5:03Speaker 2: loved the rivalry of Baltimore and Pittsburgh. They embrace it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: They have fun with it, and it was great. It
- 5:09Speaker 2: was a tremendous venue of record setting amount of people
- 5:11Speaker 2: came out. Thanks to Pittsburgh Steel City for everything that
- 5:15Speaker 2: they meant for the whole year, just to build up
- 5:17Speaker 2: to the draft. You know, we think it's Draft Day,
- 5:19Speaker 2: three days. That's a build up and right now there's
- 5:22Speaker 2: signs up I'm sure over in DC. Hey, drafts coming
- 5:24Speaker 2: up in twenty twenty seven. Then we'll know this summer
- 5:26Speaker 2: address going be in twenty eight, twenty nine, Okay, moving
- 5:29Speaker 2: forward after that, So everybody's vying now, there's like ten
- 5:32Speaker 2: to twelve cities that are vying for drafts moving forward.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So it's amazing that somebody had said this week that
- 5:39Speaker 2: it feels like the super Bowl when you're at the draft.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It feels like that's the type of environment for Jets fans. Yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 2: well that's their super Bowl. Yea. Again, for a lot
- 5:48Speaker 2: of teams, keep in mind, there's twelve teams that have
- 5:50Speaker 2: never won a super Bowl. Guys, twelve teams have never
- 5:53Speaker 2: won a Super Bowl out of the thirty two. So
- 5:55Speaker 2: this notion at a just because you've been there doesn't
- 5:57Speaker 2: mean you won it. A lot of you know, twelve
- 5:59Speaker 2: have some of those twelve have been there, but they
- 6:01Speaker 2: never won it. So twelve teams are still trying to
- 6:03Speaker 2: get their first super Bowl win. So it's not just
- 6:06Speaker 2: you know, like I say, it's not just you know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: a fan base here, a fan base there. There's a
- 6:10Speaker 2: lot of fan bases that are just screaming, Hey, in Baltimore,
- 6:14Speaker 2: we had two. We had two. We had Trent Dilfer,
- 6:17Speaker 2: we had Joe Flacco, so you know, we had Brian Billock,
- 6:21Speaker 2: we had John Harball. So again, you know, people think
- 6:25Speaker 2: it's easy. It's not easy when twelve teams have yet
- 6:27Speaker 2: to win a super Bowl in NFL history.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Mel I'm glad you brought up the attendance because I
- 6:31Speaker 1: was thinking about this as I was watching you on
- 6:34Speaker 1: the draft coverage. You're a pioneer. You started this thing,
- 6:38Speaker 1: and to see over eight hundred thousand people flood to
- 6:41Speaker 1: a city to watch the NFL Draft something you believed
- 6:45Speaker 1: in when no one else did. You saw the market.
- 6:47Speaker 1: You knew the market for this thing, you knew how
- 6:49Speaker 1: popular it was. I was thinking, Wow, Mel must be
- 6:53Speaker 1: filled with pride just knowing that there were over eight
- 6:55Speaker 1: hundred thousand people attending this event.
- 6:58Speaker 2: It is amazing. You really lose sight of that's too,
- 7:01Speaker 2: and then when you bring it up, it brings back
- 7:03Speaker 2: memories because back in the day we were at the
- 7:05Speaker 2: Marriott Marquee, the Grand ballroom of the Marriot Marquis were
- 7:07Speaker 2: like five hundred people there, that's it. But you saw
- 7:10Speaker 2: the energy of those five hundred. You saw them wearing
- 7:13Speaker 2: a variety of jerseys representing just about every team in
- 7:16Speaker 2: the NFL. When we would walk to the draft when
- 7:19Speaker 2: it was at Radio City, say the Radio City prior
- 7:21Speaker 2: to leaving New York going to I believe Chicago. Yes, okay,
- 7:25Speaker 2: you would be walking to the draft at Radio City
- 7:28Speaker 2: and they'd be lined up and screaming, Hey, who's this
- 7:30Speaker 2: team that to take? Who's this team gonna take? And
- 7:33Speaker 2: I knew it from my own draft reports. I knew
- 7:35Speaker 2: that back in nineteen seventy nine, eighty eighty one. There
- 7:38Speaker 2: was so much interest in just my draft report, long
- 7:40Speaker 2: before people thought there'd be an interest in the NFL
- 7:43Speaker 2: Draft and the ratings would be through the roof and
- 7:44Speaker 2: people be lining up and have almost a million people
- 7:48Speaker 2: attending a draft. But to to say that I could
- 7:51Speaker 2: ever have seen it this get to this point, I
- 7:53Speaker 2: did see it getting this point. I really did. He
- 7:55Speaker 2: said in the draft, there's two things. There's two things
- 7:57Speaker 2: in my life I've been writing about, and Mikey knows
- 7:59Speaker 2: one of them. It's Kim Kaiper. I went one for
- 8:05Speaker 2: one in that department, right, and I h hit the
- 8:07Speaker 2: ball out of the park. I overachieved by miles. I said,
- 8:09Speaker 2: if you're ever going to go overachieve in life, overachieved marriage.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I did with Kim and then the draft. I did
- 8:14Speaker 2: predict this look before Kim came along. I was right
- 8:17Speaker 2: on the draft. Then Kim came along, and she used
- 8:19Speaker 2: to get me shrimp cocktail at the draft back in
- 8:21Speaker 2: nineteen eighty nine, which rat was picked. We were just
- 8:24Speaker 2: ready to We were not yet engaged. That was in April.
- 8:26Speaker 2: We got engaged in May. We got married in November.
- 8:29Speaker 2: So even prior to the engagement, Kim was at the
- 8:32Speaker 2: draft with Troy Aikman, having a great time and enjoying it.
- 8:35Speaker 2: But who at that point did you think it could
- 8:37Speaker 2: go on the road? I did. I was the one
- 8:40Speaker 2: thought it should have been on the road. Why are
- 8:42Speaker 2: we not tickets? Super Bowls are everywhere? Right? Why not?
- 8:46Speaker 2: Was at the NFL Draft everywhere. I envisioned it being
- 8:49Speaker 2: in stadiums, but that would have been a limitation to
- 8:51Speaker 2: only however many people. You can prefer to a stadium
- 8:54Speaker 2: now when you put it outside like this, Like I said,
- 8:57Speaker 2: Nashville was amazing. Every you we've been to has been amazing.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I would say Nashville was my number one. Green Bay
- 9:04Speaker 2: was extraordinary, Pittsburgh was right there. Yeah, I loved them all,
- 9:09Speaker 2: but I would say Nashville still was my number one.
- 9:12Speaker 2: But these every other city has been right there with them,
- 9:16Speaker 2: pretty dog going close. And Pittsburgh dide an incredible job.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And luckily guys I brought think about it, I brought
- 9:21Speaker 2: a big heavy overcoat with me to the draft and
- 9:25Speaker 2: not to the draft to Pittsburgh. That stayed in my
- 9:28Speaker 2: room the whole time, which was great. We were at
- 9:30Speaker 2: like sixty five degrees even at night. We need air
- 9:34Speaker 2: conditioning at our set. Can you believe at the first
- 9:36Speaker 2: two days air conditioning They three Cooperative didn't need anything.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Beautiful weather, probably the best weather we may have ever
- 9:42Speaker 2: had was in Pittsburgh.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Amazing, Mel, I want to get to some of the
- 9:46Speaker 3: picks from from this from this past draft, talking about
- 9:50Speaker 3: this where it should go and all that.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'm talking about being a pioneer. I mean, come on,
- 9:57Speaker 1: we get.
- 9:57Speaker 3: So much time with Mel and you're talking about Pittsburgh.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I got another hour and a.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Half and I'll take the full hour to half. I
- 10:03Speaker 1: will let me go ahead.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Well, nobody questions how much you watch these players and
- 10:10Speaker 3: how you are able to evaluate them. But after the
- 10:14Speaker 3: draft is over, I'm curious what player went to what
- 10:17Speaker 3: team that you said, that's a perfect fit for that guy.
- 10:22Speaker 2: McKay lemon to Philadelphia. Wow, just because of the Eagles
- 10:26Speaker 2: getting him, getting him the Pittsburgh try was talking to
- 10:30Speaker 2: McKay lemon. When Philadelphia, you and all this was going
- 10:33Speaker 2: on in Philadelphia, Win traded up with Dallas, if you
- 10:35Speaker 2: can believe it, Inner Division trade crazy with Dallas, allowing
- 10:38Speaker 2: Philadelphia to get mackay lemon right ahead of the Eagle.
- 10:41Speaker 2: The Steelers, who were ready to take it, looked like
- 10:43Speaker 2: McKay lemon. So it was an amazing turn of events there.
- 10:46Speaker 2: But to go to the Eagles with all that talent,
- 10:49Speaker 2: and Mikayle Lemon can can do everything. I mean you
- 10:52Speaker 2: talk about run after catch, he snatches the ball with
- 10:54Speaker 2: his hands plays as the word I use was fierce.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Love everything about him. The Caleb Down is going to
- 11:00Speaker 2: Dallas is exactly what they need. So I'll go offense
- 11:03Speaker 2: and defense. Answer your question, Mikey, Offense will be Lemon,
- 11:06Speaker 2: defense will be Downs, because what is what is? What
- 11:08Speaker 2: did the Dallas Cowboys have breakdowns everywhere? I'm sitting there,
- 11:12Speaker 2: if I'm Jerry Jones and I'm up in my in
- 11:14Speaker 2: my suite right and I'm watching my team back in friends,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I call to go down and get a touchdown? Oh
- 11:20Speaker 2: so happy, Give me my orange crush, Give me another
- 11:22Speaker 2: crab cake before I keep it. Take a bite of
- 11:24Speaker 2: that crab cake. The other team scored, right, okay, And
- 11:27Speaker 2: then I say, I got another touchdown. Okay, I'll try
- 11:29Speaker 2: to get another bite. Before I get my second bite,
- 11:31Speaker 2: the other team scored again. Then they scored again. They're
- 11:34Speaker 2: still scoring, right, So that's what Dallas had to do
- 11:36Speaker 2: was fix the defense. Five of their seven picks for
- 11:38Speaker 2: defense let off by Caleb Downs, who is the smartest
- 11:41Speaker 2: player Nick sabans ever coach. He's an alpha. He does
- 11:44Speaker 2: not telling to tolerate losing. He's not gonna tolerate mistakes.
- 11:48Speaker 2: He's gonna raise everybody's performance level up. Okay, and that's
- 11:51Speaker 2: what it does. I see what I say, stupid, there,
- 11:53Speaker 2: I get, and I get. I get fired up right
- 11:55Speaker 2: because I know you guys love talking about this stuff
- 11:57Speaker 2: and have fun with it. So it's an energizing ability
- 12:00Speaker 2: that Caleb has in addition to an expectation level to say,
- 12:04Speaker 2: you better not be the last man in the building,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you better not be the first guy off the practice field,
- 12:10Speaker 2: you better not make a mistake during mental error. He's
- 12:13Speaker 2: gonna demand excellence, Caleb Downs will, and I think that's
- 12:16Speaker 2: what Dallas needs and that's what they got. So that's
- 12:19Speaker 2: my offense, Makai Lemon, My defense is Caleb Downs.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Now, a lot of people have a hard time when
- 12:25Speaker 4: people say the Jets or the Browns won the draft
- 12:28Speaker 4: just because they're bad franchises and the picks really haven't
- 12:31Speaker 4: translated to wins. But what team would you say raise
- 12:34Speaker 4: their sealing the most with a strong draft.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Well, I do that to mention the Browns. I think
- 12:39Speaker 2: Andrew Berry. He did it last year by moving down.
- 12:42Speaker 2: He did it again this year and he ended up
- 12:43Speaker 2: with Spencer Fono when he could add any one of
- 12:45Speaker 2: the four offensive linemen. So what he's done is allow
- 12:50Speaker 2: I believe Shador Sanders, who played well last year as
- 12:53Speaker 2: a rookie despite people saying he did not. This is
- 12:55Speaker 2: the thing. There was an article written last year. I
- 12:57Speaker 2: get back from the draft guy and I see an
- 13:00Speaker 2: article and I just have to stumble upon it because
- 13:02Speaker 2: I'm not looking for this nonsense. But I stumbled upon it.
- 13:06Speaker 2: It said something to the effect of Kuiper had Patrick
- 13:09Speaker 2: Mahomes rated as the fifth best quarterback and the draft
- 13:12Speaker 2: the year he came out, and he had some guy
- 13:14Speaker 2: who went laid ahead of him. I said, wait, that's
- 13:19Speaker 2: not true. So I checked with my guys at the
- 13:20Speaker 2: ESPN to make sure I'm not out of my mind, right, Okay, Yes,
- 13:24Speaker 2: And it was obviously not true, and it was from
- 13:27Speaker 2: some rating a couple of years before or before the season.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It was I don't know where this guy grabs found
- 13:32Speaker 2: this to try to make me look bad. Patrick Mahomes
- 13:35Speaker 2: I was raving about on the draft the draft day
- 13:37Speaker 2: where they played the clip of pat when everybody else
- 13:39Speaker 2: was against Patrick Mahomes and negative one Patrick Mahomes will
- 13:42Speaker 2: So again I had to read that nonsense from this person.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And then this year there's an article written about me
- 13:50Speaker 2: saying that when am I ever going to shut up
- 13:52Speaker 2: about Shador Sanders and I not watch I always didn't
- 13:54Speaker 2: watch any of games last year. Well, I watched. Now
- 13:58Speaker 2: you can tell me I don't know what I'm looking,
- 14:00Speaker 2: but don't tell me I didn't watch it. Okay, I
- 14:02Speaker 2: get a look, I don't have a problem somebody out
- 14:03Speaker 2: you don't know what the hell you're looking at. Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 2: but don't tell me I didn't look at it, right, Okay,
- 14:08Speaker 2: So I watched every snap he took for this person
- 14:11Speaker 2: that said that obviously he looked at QBR and other
- 14:15Speaker 2: things that I don't care about and didn't watch the
- 14:18Speaker 2: games obviously, and said that I didn't watch the games.
- 14:22Speaker 2: So this is kind of crap you have to deal
- 14:23Speaker 2: with the day after drafting, you get home me thinking
- 14:25Speaker 2: way for an arche rush of Craft game. You hat
- 14:27Speaker 2: guys writing stuff that's just nonsensical. But hey, I'm not
- 14:30Speaker 2: even mentioned any names because these people don't deserve to
- 14:33Speaker 2: be credited to anything except the fact that they're they
- 14:35Speaker 2: don't know what the heck they're even writing. Yeah, and
- 14:38Speaker 2: to say that I never saw because I think Shandor
- 14:41Speaker 2: saying it I believe. In short, it means I didn't
- 14:42Speaker 2: watch him play. He went three and four with a
- 14:44Speaker 2: team that had players getting hurt every every time he
- 14:46Speaker 2: went out there. He played in the worst weather conditions.
- 14:48Speaker 2: He had a touchdown pass to Jerry Judy off his shoulder.
- 14:50Speaker 2: It was intercepted, but he probably thought that was an
- 14:52Speaker 2: interception that was bad for Chandor he watched it right.
- 14:54Speaker 2: So these guys that want to make write articles, and
- 14:57Speaker 2: everybody does these days, can you at least acomes at
- 15:00Speaker 2: least one percent accurate in this particular person's case last
- 15:03Speaker 2: year at mahomes this year with that article zero percent accurate?
- 15:06Speaker 1: So was the answer.
- 15:07Speaker 4: The Browns raised their.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Sealing Taylor, who's your question now?
- 15:14Speaker 1: Who raised their scene.
- 15:16Speaker 2: That we haven't talked with? Ray there raised their I'm
- 15:19Speaker 2: gonna go right to a team in my crab cake
- 15:22Speaker 2: land in Baltimore Ravens, Eric the Costa people are mentioned.
- 15:26Speaker 2: People have mentioned all these different gms, right, Eric, the
- 15:28Speaker 2: Costa is one of the top five GMS in the
- 15:30Speaker 2: NFL guarantee. So I'll stay here in the land of
- 15:33Speaker 2: pleasant living Tailor and I'll go to the Baltimore Ravens.
- 15:35Speaker 2: They got Ryan Eckley, who was a punter. Well, why
- 15:37Speaker 2: it is a punter important because it determines field position right,
- 15:40Speaker 2: determines short fields. Who did the Ravens rept Sam Cook
- 15:44Speaker 2: pretty good pick right back in the day coming out
- 15:45Speaker 2: of Nebraska, late rounder Jordan Stout pretty good fourth round pick,
- 15:48Speaker 2: not that long ago out of Penn State because John
- 15:50Speaker 2: Hardball took him to the Giants. Right now, we needed
- 15:52Speaker 2: a punter. We get Ryan Eckley who can boom them
- 15:54Speaker 2: out of Michigan State everything that they needed to get
- 15:57Speaker 2: from Venga Awana to Zion Young moving forward, and the
- 16:03Speaker 2: tight ends in the fourth round turned to gold like
- 16:06Speaker 2: Dennis Pitta, Isaiah Likely, Charlie Kohlar and go on and on.
- 16:10Speaker 2: The Baltimore Ravens did a really good job. So again,
- 16:13Speaker 2: and I'll mention Cleveland as well. I think Andrew Berry
- 16:15Speaker 2: did well. But in that afccene North, I think the
- 16:18Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, you know, did a heck
- 16:21Speaker 2: of a job. And I think that's gonna propel Baltimore
- 16:24Speaker 2: this year with obviously Jesse Mentor coming in, Declan Doyle
- 16:28Speaker 2: was the OC. A lot of changes, a lot of
- 16:30Speaker 2: positivity now. I thought the Ravens could be in the
- 16:32Speaker 2: super Bowl last year. I think this draft will go
- 16:34Speaker 2: a long way and getting in the right back in contention.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Whether it'll do it or not, who knows. But this
- 16:38Speaker 2: will be a draft that we look back on and say,
- 16:41Speaker 2: all the areas that they need to hit, they did.
- 16:43Speaker 2: And I thought those players, if they drafted, were right
- 16:45Speaker 2: in line with where we thought they would go based
- 16:47Speaker 2: on value.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Mel who else would be in your top five in
- 16:49Speaker 1: terms of GMS you said to cost of certain Howie
- 16:52Speaker 1: Roseman is in there.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Hallie Roseman would be right there. John schneid Er Howie
- 16:57Speaker 2: Roseman are kind of won in a Don't ask me
- 16:59Speaker 2: to separate rate those two.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You can't.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So Howie Roseman, John Schneider, Brett Beach with Kansas City, certainly.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But having Patrick Mahomes helps a GM, doesn't it. I
- 17:09Speaker 2: was Patrick Mahomes. I think I could even go to
- 17:12Speaker 2: an organization with Patrick Mahomes and that that guy that
- 17:14Speaker 2: wrote that article might even agree with me. On that
- 17:17Speaker 2: even I globally me he was always wrong about everything
- 17:20Speaker 2: could go and maybe be successful with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So I know he gets mentioned. Beach does as a
- 17:26Speaker 2: guy certainly in that NIXT Certainly Eric DaCosta is right there.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And I'll tell you what. The Dallas Cowboys, Yes, Barry Jones,
- 17:35Speaker 2: thank you McLay. They really do a good job. And
- 17:38Speaker 2: I used to there was a time and and Stu,
- 17:41Speaker 2: you'll love this. I'm like, I think about draft lull
- 17:44Speaker 2: from years going by, like there were five years ago,
- 17:46Speaker 2: and everybody reminded me, you know it was like twenty
- 17:48Speaker 2: five thirty years ago you were talking about. I don't
- 17:50Speaker 2: they seemed like yesterday and they're like thirty five years ago.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Big D. I used to get big D. Used to
- 17:55Speaker 2: get a big D. Remember those days when you're drafting
- 17:59Speaker 2: guys draft in the third round even though it's a
- 18:01Speaker 2: fifth rent because he could be a special team you
- 18:03Speaker 2: can't be. I said, what are you doing? And so
- 18:05Speaker 2: they were taking guys that I had a sex sixth
- 18:07Speaker 2: seventh round, greater one in the third round. Big D
- 18:09Speaker 2: had a big D. Now from I don't know how
- 18:12Speaker 2: many years has been, now they are drafting very well,
- 18:15Speaker 2: and they did again this year, and I gotta give
- 18:18Speaker 2: him a lot of credit. They can't just be back
- 18:20Speaker 2: in friends. It has to be a defense and hopefully
- 18:22Speaker 2: they pick it up on that side of the ball
- 18:24Speaker 2: to really be a team that can challenge. I think
- 18:26Speaker 2: when you look at what Adam Peters is doing with Washington,
- 18:28Speaker 2: he was out in San Francisco. You did a really
- 18:30Speaker 2: good job there as well. Less sneed to answer your
- 18:33Speaker 2: questions soon. Just to go back to the top five. Yeah, okay,
- 18:36Speaker 2: if you go, if you go, Hollie and John Schneider,
- 18:39Speaker 2: So Howie Roseman, John Schneider, and you can't separate down
- 18:43Speaker 2: and you got to go. Eric. The Costa belongs in
- 18:45Speaker 2: that group. Less Snead with the rams and remem there
- 18:48Speaker 2: was a time where remember less Steed was getting a
- 18:49Speaker 2: lot of heat. Yes, okay out in LA. Then everything
- 18:53Speaker 2: started to turn and again we're in a world now
- 18:56Speaker 2: where we kick quarterbacks to the curb halfway through their
- 18:59Speaker 2: rookie year. Right, look at the way Look at why
- 19:01Speaker 2: they're looking at these rookie quarterbacks and the way we
- 19:03Speaker 2: were value they better start. They make a mistake. It's like,
- 19:06Speaker 2: did you see that awful threat. Well, how do you
- 19:08Speaker 2: learn in life by making mistakes?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Right?
- 19:10Speaker 2: You guys all learn by being the one air doing
- 19:12Speaker 2: what you do. You learn by your mistakes. You don't
- 19:14Speaker 2: learn by doing anything perfectly. You learn, but you hope,
- 19:17Speaker 2: you hope young players make mistakes so they can learn
- 19:19Speaker 2: from them and they don't have to happen again. So
- 19:21Speaker 2: for me, we kick these quarterbacks that occur. We do everything.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Everything's got to be changed or coaches, general managers. Sometimes
- 19:27Speaker 2: you got to work through some rough moments if you
- 19:29Speaker 2: believe in that person's football. IQ. And I said this
- 19:32Speaker 2: to somebody at the drafted. It's a million articles written, No,
- 19:35Speaker 2: you like this guy and you like that guy. This
- 19:37Speaker 2: was a positive article, not a negative art. It was
- 19:39Speaker 2: probably too positive. But you hit this, you hit that.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I said, it's easy for me to be in the
- 19:44Speaker 2: cheap seeds and sitting here saying that I had this
- 19:48Speaker 2: guy and I like this guy. But what if you
- 19:49Speaker 2: were in a round where you only had one pick
- 19:51Speaker 2: in the second round, you only had one pick third.
- 19:53Speaker 2: You get through a draft and you only have seven players,
- 19:55Speaker 2: or you have maybe ten players, and you're looking at
- 19:57Speaker 2: and evaluating five hundred players a board of one hundred,
- 20:00Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty players, and when that picks up
- 20:03Speaker 2: in the third round, you're debating between two three guys
- 20:05Speaker 2: and I really like, Okay, it's almost like what do
- 20:08Speaker 2: I do? Do I have a crab cake?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:11Speaker 2: Do I have Trent cocktail? You know? Do I have
- 20:14Speaker 2: a file a? What do I do? You got to
- 20:16Speaker 2: pick one, right, So maybe the fill a was a
- 20:18Speaker 2: little well done for you, right, Maybe a crab cake
- 20:21Speaker 2: wasn't the Mikey's liking, right, So again, do you pick
- 20:24Speaker 2: the right one? Do you pick the right player? And
- 20:27Speaker 2: when a team gets three guys to choose from, all
- 20:30Speaker 2: three of those guys aren't gonna necessarily be really good.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Maybe one of them is and it might be the
- 20:36Speaker 2: one you pick. Yeah, but if you don't pick that guy,
- 20:38Speaker 2: and it's gonna work, so you'll look like an idiot
- 20:41Speaker 2: and they'll criticize your draft or you might even lose
- 20:44Speaker 2: your job when you really did like a lot of
- 20:46Speaker 2: guys have turned out really good, but just picked the
- 20:48Speaker 2: wrong one, yes, because you only had that one pick.
- 20:51Speaker 2: So again, it's like getting up to the plate and
- 20:53Speaker 2: you go one for four, right, Yeah, you could be
- 20:55Speaker 2: always say, you know, What's what's the difference between being
- 20:58Speaker 2: minor legs major legs? Right? So again that's where you
- 21:01Speaker 2: look at these drafts, these general managers to be able
- 21:04Speaker 2: to withstand all that survive the test of time and
- 21:08Speaker 2: be there for as long as these guys have been
- 21:10Speaker 2: there winning Super Bowls. Eric Tacosta, less Sneed, Howie Roseman,
- 21:15Speaker 2: John Schneider, Brett Veach, all Super Bowl winning general managers,
- 21:20Speaker 2: and to be able to survive as long as they
- 21:21Speaker 2: have Eric Takasta has been. This was his twenty second
- 21:24Speaker 2: draft with the Baltimore Ravens. Okay, where he's run the
- 21:26Speaker 2: draft room, run the room in addition to being behind
- 21:29Speaker 2: Ozzie Newsom. Give an example, I took this crew. I
- 21:32Speaker 2: took this Baltimore raven scouting department led by Ozzie Newsom,
- 21:35Speaker 2: and at the time Phil Savage was running it fills
- 21:38Speaker 2: now with the La Rams. By the way, Phil Savage,
- 21:41Speaker 2: we're walking off the field at the Senior Bowl. I
- 21:42Speaker 2: don't know if I ever told you this story, and
- 21:43Speaker 2: walking off the field of the Senior Bowl, and one
- 21:46Speaker 2: of their scouts yelled, tim me, no, what do you
- 21:48Speaker 2: think about Darren Howard, who's the defensive Lineman conact cant.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I say, its first round draft choice. You're crazy, You're nuts.
- 21:54Speaker 2: He's a fourth round pick. I said, we got a
- 21:58Speaker 2: wager here. Somebody said, well, we got wager. I said, okay,
- 22:01Speaker 2: a dinner one. I had to take them all to
- 22:04Speaker 2: dinner if I lost, and I don't know if I
- 22:05Speaker 2: was gonna get if they won. He ended up being
- 22:06Speaker 2: a first pick of the second round. I lost the bet.
- 22:08Speaker 2: He didn't go to the first first pick of the
- 22:10Speaker 2: second round turned to be a hell of a player,
- 22:12Speaker 2: Darren Howard did. So it was kind of poetic justice,
- 22:14Speaker 2: and he turned out good. I did to take all
- 22:16Speaker 2: these guys to dinner was like, I don't know. It
- 22:17Speaker 2: was well over one thousand dollars. I didn't eat because
- 22:19Speaker 2: I don't eat. Whenever i'd go with you, if you
- 22:21Speaker 2: guys took me to dinner, I would not eat. What
- 22:24Speaker 2: you guys invited me to a wedding. You guys invited
- 22:26Speaker 2: me to a wedding, I would not eat. Invite me
- 22:28Speaker 2: to a party, I would not eat. Okay, I don't
- 22:30Speaker 2: eat any that stuff. So I went to this dinner.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I had all these scouts, I had Oz, I had
- 22:36Speaker 2: Eric toa Costa, fill Savage and the whole crew there,
- 22:38Speaker 2: Terry McDonough, everybody, and I didn't eat one thing. Bill
- 22:41Speaker 2: was well over one thousand dollars. It was all crabcakes,
- 22:43Speaker 2: crack game, double crab cakes, take crap cakes home with you,
- 22:46Speaker 2: do anything you want, right, So we had a great time.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Eric to Costa was just a scout then and I
- 22:51Speaker 2: remember was the late nineties whatever it was, orly to it.
- 22:54Speaker 2: And now you see him doing the job. He did so.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And there's more that I could put to that list.
- 22:57Speaker 2: But that's the elite five right now.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I mean the answer. And by the way, the seat
- 23:04Speaker 1: you're sitting in it ain't cheap now, I mean I
- 23:06Speaker 1: would pay top time.
- 23:09Speaker 2: When I give it. It's good, you say, because when
- 23:10Speaker 2: I when you asked me a question, and Mikey knows
- 23:12Speaker 2: what with the old darn and melch, would you ask
- 23:14Speaker 2: me a question? I'll go in a million times we know,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and I was, I always have to ask you. Did
- 23:18Speaker 2: I answer your question.
- 23:19Speaker 1: In that I don't know.
- 23:22Speaker 2: There's something in there. I think I somewhere in there
- 23:25Speaker 2: answered the question right. And I went off and answered
- 23:27Speaker 2: by ten more questions. Why I answered your question?
- 23:29Speaker 1: That's why.
- 23:29Speaker 2: It's just the nature of what I do, who I am.
- 23:32Speaker 1: It's why you're the greatest. It's why we love having you.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I can't no, not the words, the great o, nop,
- 23:37Speaker 1: the nobody. I don't care what they are, Yeah they are. No,
- 23:41Speaker 1: I don't care what that nameless draft n it said
- 23:44Speaker 1: about you and Patrick Mahomes the greatest. I don't care.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And by the way, it was me who criticized Mahomes.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Mel didn't say anything, Okay, I blasted and read for
- 23:51Speaker 1: having the audacity to put Alex Smith uh to bench
- 23:54Speaker 1: Alex Smith for Patrick Mahomes. It worked out, I was wrong,
- 23:58Speaker 1: but it was me who criticized Patrick Mahoe. Mel helped
- 24:00Speaker 1: me out with this because I hate when this happens.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I hate when it happens. Okay, I love the Jets draft.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Tell me I'm wrong.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I liked I would have gone about it a
- 24:11Speaker 2: little differently, but hey, we're splitting hairs there, r VL
- 24:14Speaker 2: Reese David Bailey. I had Reese a little higher. Yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 2: you go to Makai Lemon. Would you want to try
- 24:20Speaker 2: to maneuver to get lemon after Sadik? Could you have
- 24:22Speaker 2: done something there? But Omar Cooper junior. This is really
- 24:25Speaker 2: the guy that we're going to be looking back when
- 24:26Speaker 2: it was Omar Cooper junior because I thought he was
- 24:28Speaker 2: a really good player. I didn't see an elite. They
- 24:31Speaker 2: probably did, so they had gotten him and Sadi could
- 24:34Speaker 2: be a really special, unique piece of the equation on offense.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I'm with you. And then did Angelo Ponds is a
- 24:40Speaker 2: just a pound for pound, probably one of the best players,
- 24:42Speaker 2: if not the best player in this draft. A guy
- 24:44Speaker 2: who just at JMU and Indiana when he was able
- 24:47Speaker 2: to accomplish Kurt Signetti, they say he was a favorite player.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Kurtz Signette should have a lot of favorite players have
- 24:51Speaker 2: brought from JMU to Indiana, like Elijah Surratt and all
- 24:54Speaker 2: those other guys. Kaylon Black, think about what JM you
- 24:58Speaker 2: meant Indiana. Wow, thirteen guys come from Jammu to Indiana
- 25:02Speaker 2: and the key what they did for the last two
- 25:04Speaker 2: years playoffs, lose the Notre Dame, win a national championship
- 25:07Speaker 2: this year. Obviously, Fernando Mendoza coming from cal it a
- 25:10Speaker 2: lot to do with that. But all those JMU kids
- 25:12Speaker 2: from Aiden Fisher to Elijah Surratt to kill and Black
- 25:15Speaker 2: to Mikael Kamara to all these guys D'Angelo pons being
- 25:19Speaker 2: right up there near the top of that list, you
- 25:21Speaker 2: get him in the second round. We said, Aaron Glenn
- 25:22Speaker 2: probably saw a lot of himself in the Angelo Pons.
- 25:25Speaker 2: It's interesting Aaron Glenn was an interceptor supreme and and
- 25:28Speaker 2: they'd have an interception last year. Now that should change
- 25:31Speaker 2: this year because of this draft.

- 27:35Speaker 5: made about this upcoming draft class. Everybody's talking about all
- 27:38Speaker 5: the quarterbacks, and a guy who's kind of in that
- 27:40Speaker 5: second tier is Brandon Sorosby, who now they're saying might
- 27:44Speaker 5: go in the supplemental draft this year. I'm curious, would
- 27:48Speaker 5: you would you go get him this year knowing what's
- 27:51Speaker 5: going to be available next year?
- 27:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Brandon soors Bates had a good year at Cincinnati.
- 27:56Speaker 2: He had some talent around him. Keep in mind, he
- 27:59Speaker 2: had Jeff Well, he had Cyrus Down, and he had
- 28:01Speaker 2: Joe Voyer. He had some really good pieces catching the
- 28:04Speaker 2: football around Brendan Sowersby. Uh. Then this unfortunate with the gambling.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Uh and went one there in the supplemental draft coming
- 28:11Speaker 2: if they have one in the summer and he's part
- 28:13Speaker 2: of it. I had going into the year, a second
- 28:15Speaker 2: round greade on Brendan Sowersby going from Cincinnati to Texas Tech.
- 28:19Speaker 2: This Texas Tech would have obviously they have the a
- 28:21Speaker 2: building now to go get players who saw that last
- 28:23Speaker 2: year they went and got guys right and who were
- 28:26Speaker 2: immediately stars at Texas Tech for the Red Raiders in Lubbock.
- 28:30Speaker 2: So he would have had talent around him. Uh. And
- 28:33Speaker 2: want to see how this all plays out. This is
- 28:35Speaker 2: a list guys see this, oh boy and written these
- 28:38Speaker 2: are next year's guys in position.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Oh my god, there it is, there, it is.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I'll give you one thousand dollars for that list right.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Up here with place kickers and punters, okay, and long
- 28:49Speaker 2: snappers and it's got it. You can say, I just
- 28:51Speaker 2: want to the end, guys. This is just the guys
- 28:53Speaker 2: that are really good. Yeah, many lists. How many guys
- 28:57Speaker 2: are on this list? How may you think?
- 28:59Speaker 1: Hm hmm, number seventy two, two.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Hundred and five. What two hundred and five guys on
- 29:05Speaker 2: that list?
- 29:06Speaker 1: Wow? Wow? Now, now some of.
- 29:09Speaker 2: These guys won't come out. These are draft eligible guys. Yes,
- 29:12Speaker 2: some of these guys will get paid a lot of
- 29:14Speaker 2: money to stay. Like Tyd Simpson was gonna get a
- 29:16Speaker 2: lot of money to go to Miami. If you want
- 29:17Speaker 2: to go to Miami, right, she decided to come out crazy.
- 29:20Speaker 2: A lot of these guys will stay because they're gonna
- 29:21Speaker 2: get a lot of money to stay. Maybe they feel like, Okay,
- 29:23Speaker 2: I want to be instead of being a late one,
- 29:24Speaker 2: I want to be an early one. So I'll get
- 29:25Speaker 2: a lot of money and I'll stay where I'll transfer
- 29:28Speaker 2: and I'll go somewhere else. Darien Menso is a good
- 29:30Speaker 2: example of that. He's going from Duke to Miami. He's
- 29:32Speaker 2: got a chance to be way up there, right, he
- 29:34Speaker 2: went from Tulane to Duke to Miami quarterback. We'll see,
- 29:38Speaker 2: we'll see how it goes this year. But the bottom
- 29:40Speaker 2: line is a lot of these kids, Oh no, I
- 29:41Speaker 2: don't know how many, but a decent amount of these
- 29:44Speaker 2: kids will go back so out of that. But that's
- 29:46Speaker 2: what I have at one hundred and eighty going into yesterday.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And I added twenty five last night that I wrote
- 29:52Speaker 2: down on this list. As I kept expanding, its expanding
- 29:54Speaker 2: to the point where edge rushers guys had to go
- 29:57Speaker 2: above where I had edge up into wide receivers. Oh wow,
- 30:01Speaker 2: not a lot of not a lot of guards and centers,
- 30:03Speaker 2: yet decent amount of offensive tackles, a ton of a
- 30:07Speaker 2: ton of safeties. Look, safety is even edged over into
- 30:09Speaker 2: Placekickers and punters. Quarterbacks go twenty deep with guys that
- 30:14Speaker 2: are twenty deep there. Wide receivers go very deep. But yeah,
- 30:18Speaker 2: that's this is the list, guys right here.
- 30:20Speaker 1: You use the back of that paper too.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Is the Yes, I'm gonna have to what I did
- 30:24Speaker 2: was I stretched it. So instead of stretching it into
- 30:27Speaker 2: another position, I'm gonna you know what I do, I'll
- 30:29Speaker 2: go in another today when I'm contidented, I'll go edge continued,
- 30:33Speaker 2: edge continuall be over here.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yes, the sheet did you go up?
- 30:37Speaker 2: It'll be next time we talk. It'll be filled up
- 30:39Speaker 2: on this side as well.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Oh my god, I hope that's tomorrow. Did you guys
- 30:42Speaker 1: hear what he said? The edges are bleeding into the
- 30:44Speaker 1: wide receivers. He has so many names on that page
- 30:47Speaker 1: piece of paper.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah. By the way, By the way, this is interesting.
- 30:51Speaker 2: They always said it's after our after arch Manning and
- 30:54Speaker 2: Dante Moore. Who do you have on your board? No,
- 30:57Speaker 2: you got guys ahead of arch Manning and Dante more
- 30:59Speaker 2: on that. Yeah. Yes, it's not arch Manning one and
- 31:03Speaker 2: Dante Moore two. It's Colin Simmons edge rusher out of Texas.
- 31:07Speaker 2: It's Dylan Storet edge rusher out of South Carolina. It's
- 31:10Speaker 2: Leonard Moore cornerback out of Notre Dame, and a guy
- 31:14Speaker 2: who could be number one, Jeremiah Smith, wide receiver out
- 31:17Speaker 2: of Ohio State. Right, we've been waiting now forever. It
- 31:20Speaker 2: seems like for Jeremiah Smith to be eligible for a draft.
- 31:22Speaker 2: He is eligible this year for the draft. He will
- 31:24Speaker 2: be in this draft. So those are the guys that
- 31:27Speaker 2: are with Jordan Seaton was with Dion at Colorado. He's
- 31:30Speaker 2: now at LSU. That incredibly comes out of central casting
- 31:33Speaker 2: for left tackle in the NFL. He's now at LSU.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Right cam Coleman was a great receiver coming to Auburn.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Now guess where cam Coleman is. Guys, he's gonna be
- 31:42Speaker 2: catching passes from Arch Manning at Texas. Cam Coleman's gonna
- 31:46Speaker 2: be really interesting to watch. So there's a lot of
- 31:47Speaker 2: guys that are in that mix, ahead of the quarterbacks,
- 31:51Speaker 2: at least from a grade standpoint. Now from positional value,
- 31:53Speaker 2: quarterbacks will sore up there, probably ahead of them. But
- 31:56Speaker 2: for Arch Manning and Dante Moore, for Arts has got
- 31:58Speaker 2: some things to fix. You can't be at forty eight
- 32:00Speaker 2: percent in some games, forty five percent in some games.
- 32:04Speaker 2: You can't finish the year at sixty sixty one percent.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So Arch has to work on consistency and accuracy and
- 32:10Speaker 2: precise passing. Dante Moore same type of thing where you
- 32:13Speaker 2: know he had that great game against Penn State late September,
- 32:16Speaker 2: then leveled off a bit. These guys need to pick
- 32:19Speaker 2: it up to be the number one, number two overall
- 32:21Speaker 2: picks because they got some competition at the top of
- 32:23Speaker 2: that board.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Guys, now you mentioned less Sneed, what'd you make of
- 32:26Speaker 1: the Rams less Sneed Sean McVay getting back into the
- 32:29Speaker 1: first round after getting McDuffie from the Chiefs and using
- 32:32Speaker 1: that first round pick on ty Simpson.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Well, it was really a bonus pick the way they
- 32:36Speaker 2: looked at it, and I agree it was that Atlanta
- 32:38Speaker 2: Falcons picked that they made that trade. That was old
- 32:40Speaker 2: James Pierce letting Atlanta get pierced. They ended up with
- 32:42Speaker 2: a first next year, that pick at thirteen was Atlanta's
- 32:45Speaker 2: became the Rams because of that trade. They had the
- 32:47Speaker 2: late first round picks they sent to Kansas City for McDuffie. Fine,
- 32:50Speaker 2: we thought, once that trade was made at twenty nine,
- 32:53Speaker 2: it's not the Rams anymore. That the Rams aren't taking
- 32:56Speaker 2: ty Simpson are certainly not taking him at thirteen, and
- 32:59Speaker 2: they did so again. Less had something going there with
- 33:03Speaker 2: ty Sen where he saw it. He saw something in
- 33:06Speaker 2: tie and we said this back going into mid November,
- 33:10Speaker 2: he was a twenty one touchdowns only one pick up
- 33:13Speaker 2: until mid November, which was about nine to ten games.
- 33:15Speaker 2: In nine games in exactly, he was a top ten
- 33:18Speaker 2: pick in the draft. The wheels came off late. He
- 33:21Speaker 2: had five fumbles over five straight games, five fumbles lost
- 33:24Speaker 2: in a six against Indiana when he was hit by
- 33:26Speaker 2: DeAngelo Pines. When he got that crack rib in the
- 33:28Speaker 2: playoff game, he said he was hurting. He was not
- 33:31Speaker 2: one hundred percent of He lost some weight, he had
- 33:33Speaker 2: some issues from a medical injury standpoint, So Ty said,
- 33:37Speaker 2: I wasn't tie. I was Ty Simpson prior to that.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I wasn't Tie Simpson after that. So if you look
- 33:42Speaker 2: at it the way Less did, let's need this said, Hey,
- 33:45Speaker 2: when Ty Simpson was healthy, and remember he didn't have
- 33:47Speaker 2: much a consistent offensive line, he didn't have receivers, even
- 33:50Speaker 2: though Jerremy Ynard was great. Ryan Williams had a disappointing
- 33:54Speaker 2: year based on what we expected from Ryan Williams, and
- 33:56Speaker 2: he'd have a running game, so he didn't have all
- 33:59Speaker 2: this going around him. Yet he was still a twenty
- 34:01Speaker 2: one to one until he felt like I'm not one
- 34:04Speaker 2: hundred percent or anywhere close to it. Anymore. So for them,
- 34:07Speaker 2: they hope he's heir apparent to Matthew Stafford. If McKayle
- 34:11Speaker 2: lemon ends up having a great year of Phildelpa who
- 34:12Speaker 2: they could have had at thirteen, they'll say, why didn't
- 34:14Speaker 2: you take mckaye lemon. You're built for now. You want
- 34:16Speaker 2: to get Matthew Stafford that second Super Bowl win. So
- 34:19Speaker 2: this is a nuanced situation with a lot of ways
- 34:22Speaker 2: you can attack it. All I'll say is when teams
- 34:25Speaker 2: and he said why not trade down? Adam Shefter said, well,
- 34:28Speaker 2: they thought they could make a deal with Detroit to
- 34:31Speaker 2: move to seventeen if if Cayden Proctor offensive tackle Alabama
- 34:34Speaker 2: was on the board, he went to Miami. Once he
- 34:36Speaker 2: went that was not gonna happen. So they didn't get
- 34:38Speaker 2: any calls to move down. They had to make a pick.
- 34:41Speaker 2: And most teams feel when they love a guy, everybody
- 34:44Speaker 2: loves that guy too. If I like him, why, I'm
- 34:47Speaker 2: sure other teams see what I see now. I think
- 34:49Speaker 2: there was always that feel that Arizona and Mike Lafleur,
- 34:51Speaker 2: who was with McVeigh with the Rams, with Seawan there Laflora.
- 34:55Speaker 2: It was all taught Laflora likes him. He's gonna jump
- 34:57Speaker 2: into the first round and get ty Simpson. That didn't happen.
- 35:00Speaker 2: The Rams took him. So at the end of the day,
- 35:01Speaker 2: three years down the road, maybe two years down the road,
- 35:03Speaker 2: we'll see if he is in fact the heir apparent
- 35:05Speaker 2: to Matthew Stafford.
- 35:06Speaker 1: If the Rams don't do that, does Tye Simpson go
- 35:08Speaker 1: in the first round?
- 35:09Speaker 2: Though Adam Schefter says that I'm not an I'm not
- 35:12Speaker 2: a draft insider per se. Adam and Peter Schrager are
- 35:17Speaker 2: in field, Yates is as well, you know, all those guys,
- 35:21Speaker 2: so they know they didn't feel like he would go
- 35:23Speaker 2: in the first round less Arizona traded back in to
- 35:25Speaker 2: get him. If Arizona would have made a move to
- 35:27Speaker 2: get ahead of the Jets, and there was talk the
- 35:28Speaker 2: Jets weren't going to take him at thirty three. So
- 35:31Speaker 2: you know, Frank Wright wanted a more physically imposing quarterback.
- 35:34Speaker 2: He took Drew Aller. Pittsburgh had said they wanted a
- 35:36Speaker 2: more physically imposing quarterback for the FC North, so they
- 35:39Speaker 2: looked at Drew Aller, right, and they took him there
- 35:42Speaker 2: to compete with Will Howard, So all all these teams
- 35:45Speaker 2: that you thought, and Arizona took Carson Beck. Arizona ended
- 35:49Speaker 2: up taking Carson Beck. You know, so when you think
- 35:51Speaker 2: about where we are right now with this whole draft
- 35:53Speaker 2: and how it would have played out, he probably would
- 35:56Speaker 2: have been there, maybe for Arizona at thirty four, maybe
- 35:58Speaker 2: even have to trade into the late first. But the
- 36:00Speaker 2: Rams obviously loved them, felt like there was somebody else
- 36:03Speaker 2: that out there like Arizona could have done it, and
- 36:05Speaker 2: they took him. So will he be a successful because
- 36:07Speaker 2: ony quarterback in the NFL? Will he be a quarterback
- 36:09Speaker 2: the Rams can get back into the playoffs and win
- 36:11Speaker 2: with after Matthew Stafford retires after his Hall of Fame career,
- 36:15Speaker 2: We'll say it's all going to play out. So the
- 36:17Speaker 2: answers will be determined down the road. Right now, we
- 36:19Speaker 2: can just have our opinions and we spew them and
- 36:22Speaker 2: we'll see what happens.
- 36:23Speaker 1: We'll get you out here. Two quick ideas. I think
- 36:25Speaker 1: they're good ideas because you're a charitable man. And then
- 36:28Speaker 1: just a quick question at the end here, what if
- 36:30Speaker 1: you signed that cheap seat that you sit in every year?
- 36:33Speaker 1: You signed it right after the draft and you sold
- 36:36Speaker 1: it to the highest bidder for charity. What do you think? Huh?
- 36:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Do you know how much that would go for? I mean, honestly,
- 36:45Speaker 1: get you.
- 36:46Speaker 2: It might get you. You know, an ice cream sandwich.
- 36:49Speaker 2: You know fact I love ice cream sandwiches, by the way,
- 36:51Speaker 2: that's one of my favorites. That's one of my favorites.
- 36:53Speaker 2: That's a Hall of Fame dessert is an ice cream samds.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Oh my god, you know that's well. You said, remember
- 36:59Speaker 2: the good humor man, I said, the good humor man
- 37:01Speaker 2: would come by. So you remember good humor man, course
- 37:04Speaker 2: hemor man, good humor man come by. The truck would
- 37:07Speaker 2: run out there, give me my ice cream sandwich? Right,
- 37:09Speaker 2: I get like three on them, right, he's three. So yeah,
- 37:12Speaker 2: so that's maybe what to say what my seat would
- 37:15Speaker 2: be worth? Maybe an ice cream sandwich.
- 37:17Speaker 1: To I have a first round grade on the ice
- 37:18Speaker 1: cream changwich? How about that?
- 37:20Speaker 2: I mean, yes, high for the number one pick on
- 37:23Speaker 2: ice cream sand But I don't know. Hey, I'd love
- 37:25Speaker 2: to do it. They just see that sit in here.
- 37:27Speaker 2: You can have this chair. I sitting in here. Squeaky podcast.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Every TV segment I do all you know, I guess
- 37:31Speaker 2: what I did. Hey, Mikey, what do I do to
- 37:33Speaker 2: my seats? I'm doing this. I'm rocking. We take a chair,
- 37:36Speaker 2: I take a chair Stu Taylor and Mikey and I
- 37:38Speaker 2: make it into a rock. Or even if it's not
- 37:40Speaker 2: a rock, right, there isn't better. There's a lazy boy
- 37:42Speaker 2: Barkert lounge, or this that or the other thing that
- 37:44Speaker 2: I even broken. I got a graveyard of chairs. I
- 37:46Speaker 2: can show you this chair that they got me. Right.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I broke the dagone thing. Tim out and talked to
- 37:52Speaker 2: Ryan Basteck. But he does great. Ryan's a miracle. He's
- 37:55Speaker 2: everything we have. Technical Ryan Bastech comes through and solves
- 37:57Speaker 2: the problem for us. Called Ryan Ryan the chair broke
- 38:00Speaker 2: the chair boom. A couple of days, got a chair.
- 38:03Speaker 2: These chairs aren't supposed to rock, but I'm constantly rocking.
- 38:07Speaker 2: So I actually broke a chair. It's in there. This
- 38:10Speaker 2: is a new chair. I'll probably break in another six months.
- 38:13Speaker 2: But yeah, any chairs you need me to science to
- 38:15Speaker 2: I'll be happy to do it.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Now.
- 38:16Speaker 2: For an ice cream sandwich for charity, I'm talking if
- 38:20Speaker 2: you think, if you think I'll get more than ice
- 38:21Speaker 2: cream sandwich too. If you believe in that and you're
- 38:24Speaker 2: my you should be my Kim's my agent. You should
- 38:26Speaker 2: be my co agent. You and Kim should be my agent. Done.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Done, you're right there. Yeah, I'm talking about the actual
- 38:33Speaker 1: chair that you sit in during the draft.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yes, I have no determination on that. That's the ESPN
- 38:39Speaker 2: deal that you have to talk to the to the
- 38:42Speaker 2: folks that yes, chair is available. I might have broken
- 38:45Speaker 2: it still, who knows it? Right now? After three days
- 38:49Speaker 2: of me sitting in there? Although I don't think I
- 38:51Speaker 2: sat in the same chair. I thinct I was on
- 38:52Speaker 2: the one end for the first two nights and they
- 38:54Speaker 2: flipped me to the other end for night three. Maybe
- 38:56Speaker 2: because I broke the chair, I don't know, but the
- 38:58Speaker 2: who knows? So I got two chairs I can signed
- 39:00Speaker 2: the one for day one and two and the one
- 39:02Speaker 2: for day three.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Right, and that laminated piece of paper too, That would
- 39:04Speaker 1: be great sign that.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Now this is this is worth his weight in gold.
- 39:08Speaker 1: All right, final question, we'll get you out of here. Okay,
- 39:11Speaker 1: how much do I have to pay mel kiper Junior
- 39:14Speaker 1: to start next week to do a weekly baseball show
- 39:17Speaker 1: with us? How much?
- 39:21Speaker 2: No weekly baseball? Baseball is my Baseball is my stew
- 39:25Speaker 2: my what is the word escape?
- 39:27Speaker 1: Yes, my escape from.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Football, my escape from everything else. I just like to escape.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I have, I have my I watch every game. I
- 39:35Speaker 2: flipped all the games in the evening. When I finally
- 39:37Speaker 2: settled aund around ten thirty a night. What's happening? The
- 39:39Speaker 2: West Coast is going strong, right, and I'm watching the
- 39:41Speaker 2: Seattle Mariners. I'm watching you know, everybody Padres, my brother
- 39:46Speaker 2: in laws, a big Padre fan. I'm always what Dodgers.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Grew up as a big Dodger fan with with Tommy
- 39:51Speaker 2: Lasorda and Albutquerque be in the Triple A that got
- 39:55Speaker 2: all those guys from Ron Say to Bill Russell to
- 39:57Speaker 2: Davey Lopes, Steve Garb to Steve Yeager. I was a
- 40:01Speaker 2: toy cannon Jimmy wyn fan when it was a toy cannon,
- 40:04Speaker 2: back when Walter Austin was managing. I was a big
- 40:06Speaker 2: Dodger fan, loved the Dodgers back in the day. So yes,
- 40:09Speaker 2: when I can watch it from Chevez Ravine and watch
- 40:11Speaker 2: all that, that's my escape. I do not want to
- 40:13Speaker 2: be forced to a podcast or talk about anything lay
- 40:16Speaker 2: to baseball. We gotta get Kyle Bradish going, right, mikey A.
- 40:20Speaker 2: We gotta get Tom Bradish going to get him going. Yeah,
- 40:24Speaker 2: we gotta get this picture. We gotta get things going
- 40:26Speaker 2: for the Ools. Get over to five hundred, could pass
- 40:28Speaker 2: five hundred, start rolling and get healthy, get some guys healthy,
- 40:31Speaker 2: get this full group of talent on the field, all
- 40:34Speaker 2: everybody available, get him out there. And let's we're not
- 40:37Speaker 2: in the May first yet, so let's see. Let's get
- 40:39Speaker 2: rolling when we get When the weather gets hot, right,
- 40:42Speaker 2: the great the good players become great players, and everything
- 40:45Speaker 2: gets rolling. I hate baseball and ice cold weather. Love
- 40:49Speaker 2: it when it gets hot. That's what it's meant to
- 40:50Speaker 2: be played in. So let's get some warm, hot weather
- 40:53Speaker 2: going and get the crab cakes, the Orange crushes, the
- 40:55Speaker 2: Old Bay, and the some Maryland crab soup, and let's
- 40:58Speaker 2: have a little fun this summer.
- 40:59Speaker 1: He is at the season for him, he is.
- 41:01Speaker 2: A right yeah, well deserved, he is there.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Taylor was saying, Alonzo under the Mendoza line. I mean,
- 41:07Speaker 1: he's got to be better, mel Yes.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Who's that? Oh gosh, you got a home run last night? Yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 2: but he's what's the what's one ninety five tailor?
- 41:18Speaker 1: Terrible terrible ninety eight.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, we'll get We'll get Pete Pete Alonso going.
- 41:22Speaker 2: We got you a little health. We gotta get Gunnered one. Yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 2: get Gunner one as well. What's Gunner's average right now?
- 41:27Speaker 1: Taylor to thirteen thirteen?
- 41:31Speaker 2: That's not cutting?
- 41:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah that.
- 41:33Speaker 2: So we got guys, got get started and go on here,
- 41:35Speaker 2: get some guys injured healthy, and get Kyle going and
- 41:39Speaker 2: uh and we'll be right there competing for a wild cord.
- 41:41Speaker 2: So I'll concede to your Yankees.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Okay, and I'll can see to you next weekend. Yes,
- 41:45Speaker 1: I can see to you. Not wanting to do a
- 41:47Speaker 1: baseball podcast. I'll never ask you that again. I understand.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Thank you, I appreciate it. Let me enjoy at least
- 41:52Speaker 2: by one escape with.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Sp check him out. Check out the pod first Draft
- 41:58Speaker 1: with him Greedy Field eight. He is the star of
- 42:01Speaker 1: the NFL draft every single year. Mel Thank you for
- 42:05Speaker 1: doing this. Thanks for making time for us, always during
- 42:07Speaker 1: the busiest time for you.
- 42:08Speaker 2: We're gonna go start add to my list right back
- 42:11Speaker 2: for another couple of days. Guys, I have a great one.
- 42:13Speaker 2: You guys are the best, all right.
- 42:14Speaker 1: We love you mail.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Thank you Okay, but I love you guys.
