- Lucas: Luna, ready for another tiny German lesson? Luna: Absolutely. I've been practicing my bakery phrases. But today I'm thinking of something else. Lucas: Oh yeah? What's on your mind? Luna: Well, what if I get sick in Germany? I want to know how to handle a pharmacy visit. Lucas: Great idea. The word for pharmacy is 'die Apotheke'. Luna: Die Apotheke. Got it. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, you might want to support us so we can keep making episodes. Luna: Yeah, it's a tiny thing that goes a long way. Lucas: Honestly, if today was worth a coffee to you, that's the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Totally. Alright, back to the Apotheke. Lucas: So, the first thing you might say is 'Ich brauche Medizin' — I need medicine. Luna: Ich brauche Medizin. Lucas: Exactly. Now if you have a headache, you say 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen'. Luna: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. That's a long word. Lucas: It is, but you can break it down: Kopf means head, Schmerzen means pain. So Kopfschmerzen. Luna: Kopfschmerzen. I think I can remember that. Lucas: Then you can ask 'Haben Sie etwas dagegen?' — Do you have something for it? Luna: Haben Sie etwas dagegen? That's useful. Lucas: The pharmacist might tell you 'Einmal täglich' — once a day. Luna: Einmal täglich. So if it's twice a day, would that be 'zweimal täglich'? Lucas: Exactly. You're learning fast. And finally, if you need to find a pharmacy, you can say 'Die Apotheke ist um die Ecke'. Luna: Die Apotheke ist um die Ecke. That means the pharmacy is around the corner. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you have a headache and you go to the pharmacy. Luna: Okay. Guten Tag. Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Haben Sie etwas dagegen? Lucas: Guten Tag. Ja, hier. Einmal täglich. Luna: Danke schön. That felt real. Lucas: You did great. Let's practice the phrases once more: Ich brauche Medizin. Luna: Ich brauche Medizin. Lucas: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen.
