- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast.
- 0:04Speaker 1: So Eminem didn't call ryn Fest the N word and
- 0:09Speaker 1: there is video receipts to prove it Outcasts and Salt
- 0:14Speaker 1: and Pepper make it into the Rock and Roll Hall
- 0:17Speaker 1: of Fame. Have some thoughts on that. And Lloyd Banks,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Benny the Butcher, and Jericho Jackson. I know you thinking
- 0:27Speaker 1: that's somebody like the Jackson Five. It's not drop new
- 0:32Speaker 1: projects and it's going to be a speed round of

- 1:30Speaker 1: any third party podcasting app. I like to use pocket cast.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I just prefer it. I'm just saying, and they're not
- 1:38Speaker 1: giving me a dime to say that. By the way. Also,
- 1:44Speaker 1: also if you are watching on the video side of things,
- 1:50Speaker 1: we have been on a mission that started last year
- 1:55Speaker 1: to get to one thousand subscribers by the end of
- 1:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. We want up hitting that right before
- 2:01Speaker 1: the new year. And then we kind of blasted off,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and so I was like, okay, well, let's go for
- 2:07Speaker 1: five thousand at the end of twenty twenty five. But
- 2:11Speaker 1: then before we can even hit the halfway point, because
- 2:14Speaker 1: we're not there yet. Within twenty twenty five, we hit
- 2:19Speaker 1: five thousand subscribers, and then you know, it was kind
- 2:22Speaker 1: of cool and steady, and it was more subscribers that
- 2:25Speaker 1: came through appreciate you, new, past, present, whatever. And then
- 2:31Speaker 1: I said, okay, well, let's go for it. Then by
- 2:35Speaker 1: the end of twenty twenty five Hip Hop Now Podcasts
- 2:39Speaker 1: and video form, we want to hit ten thousand subscribers,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and people are here to tell you we are not
- 2:47Speaker 1: at ten thousand yet, but we are at eight thousand.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And if you watch this show or you listen to
- 2:54Speaker 1: this show, you know, just a week ago, just a
- 2:58Speaker 1: week ago, on this podcast, we were at six thousand.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So that's two thousand in a week. My numbers are up. Okay,
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm up, all right. So I appreciate everybody who subscribes
- 3:10Speaker 1: to this channel again, whether you come here for this
- 3:13Speaker 1: weekly news program or some of my media stuff coming
- 3:19Speaker 1: out but the program podcast, or you come here for
- 3:24Speaker 1: you know, the shorts, you know, and for people who
- 3:29Speaker 1: don't know, who've probably been following for a while on
- 3:34Speaker 1: my ig, which you can follow me everywhere, but at
- 3:37Speaker 1: Vegas World, I NC in my stories. You know. I
- 3:41Speaker 1: like to like share dope hip hop content I see
- 3:45Speaker 1: coming from other individuals, whether that's a video, a freestyle
- 3:49Speaker 1: or rap battle. You know something about hip hop, I
- 3:53Speaker 1: like to reshare. So my whole vibe is to reshare
- 3:58Speaker 1: other people's content as well, because I think it's dope.
- 4:02Speaker 1: So I started doing the very same thing right here
- 4:05Speaker 1: on YouTube, and people appreciated and sparking conversation about artists
- 4:10Speaker 1: and things like that. But there are some people who
- 4:13Speaker 1: also subscribe to this channel because they like the historical
- 4:17Speaker 1: podcast that I do call that Time in Hip Hop
- 4:20Speaker 1: with the Homie Tony from Into the Dome podcast, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: we have like seventy something episodes talking about albums in
- 4:30Speaker 1: history moments in history, producers, labels, films, artists, obviously all
- 4:38Speaker 1: kinds of things right in hip hop. Seventy something episodes
- 4:42Speaker 1: and it's right here on this channel. But we just
- 4:44Speaker 1: did a new episode and this episode is dedicated to
- 4:51Speaker 1: Ruthless Records. We talk about the impact of Ruthless Records,
- 4:56Speaker 1: not only at that point in time in history in
- 4:59Speaker 1: the early nine or really I mean the late eighties,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but also the tree, the roots of the tree that
- 5:09Speaker 1: extend from Easy taking his straight money and funding Ruthless
- 5:18Speaker 1: Records to start UH and and have groups like n
- 5:21Speaker 1: w A and the d O C and even on
- 5:24Speaker 1: the R and B side Michelle a above the law
- 5:27Speaker 1: like obviously bone Thugs. Also so me and Tony. In
- 5:32Speaker 1: this podcast, we literally go from the beginning. We talk
- 5:36Speaker 1: about the impact of the label. We talk about how
- 5:39Speaker 1: the label doesn't get talked about enough. Obviously, we talk
- 5:42Speaker 1: about Easy, the whole thing with when Dre and sug
- 5:48Speaker 1: Knight and d OC left the story about you know
- 5:54Speaker 1: the story air quotes about you know, Easy being forced
- 6:01Speaker 1: to sign them over and we dispoke, We debunked that,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and it's pretty it's pretty simple. You don't even really
- 6:09Speaker 1: have to hear that much from the people back then.
- 6:13Speaker 1: It's just some logic. So again we talk about the label,
- 6:17Speaker 1: we go over everything, we talk about. You know where
- 6:19Speaker 1: it stopped obviously with easy E check that out. That's
- 6:23Speaker 1: on the channel that time and hip Hop the impact
- 6:28Speaker 1: of Ruthless Records and for you audio listeners is also available.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And I mean, if you're subscribed, you already know it's
- 6:35Speaker 1: in your feed. But if you're an audio listener who
- 6:38Speaker 1: came across this video and wants to go subscribe audio form,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you can also listen to it there. Those videos tend
- 6:45Speaker 1: to be longer form videos because we got it. You know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: we gotta say all the things. But I mean we
- 6:51Speaker 1: got to say all the things. You know what I'm saying.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So it is what it is. First of all. Next up,
- 6:57Speaker 1: okay Morgan say yousity as well. This is for all
- 7:01Speaker 1: the video people watching. This is sound dressed. And I
- 7:04Speaker 1: just said that for the audio people watching, So big
- 7:08Speaker 1: shout out to hip hop DX dot com, especially all
- 7:12Speaker 1: hip hop dot com coming through with the receipts in
- 7:16Speaker 1: some of the places where I get some of these
- 7:18Speaker 1: stories from. Let's get right to the business. So last
- 7:24Speaker 1: week I reported, well, first of all, if you're from
- 7:26Speaker 1: the future and it's already happened, and come on, dog,
- 7:29Speaker 1: get your ass out of here. You you every you
- 7:31Speaker 1: know everything already okay, But last week I reported on
- 7:36Speaker 1: Romfest talking about a rap battle that took place in
- 7:42Speaker 1: I think like ninety eight again, you know, with him
- 7:46Speaker 1: versus Eminem, And in this interview that he was in
- 7:50Speaker 1: he said that Eminem called him an N word, which
- 7:53Speaker 1: was like WHOA what to you to your face in
- 7:56Speaker 1: front of people, and nothing happened. It was almost unbelievable,
- 8:01Speaker 1: but we had no reason not to believe him unless
- 8:04Speaker 1: you were there, right, So it turns out that was
- 8:10Speaker 1: not true. That was not true. So as a hip
- 8:14Speaker 1: hop journalist in this sense, because that's what my podcast is,
- 8:19Speaker 1: you know, we were looking for the truth and shout
- 8:22Speaker 1: out to all hip hop dot com who received the
- 8:27Speaker 1: complete footage. Now I'm not trying to be that guy,
- 8:33Speaker 1: but we know in twenty twenty five things could be edited.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Of course, that could happen anytime, but you know, with
- 8:41Speaker 1: AI we can tweak things, right. You know, you can
- 8:45Speaker 1: watch a video that's blurry from ninety eight with Eminem's
- 8:48Speaker 1: back to you and you hear the rym and rom
- 8:51Speaker 1: could be edited right, But we're gonna go where the
- 8:55Speaker 1: story is because I don't think rom festus said anything
- 8:59Speaker 1: about out. Here's the story. We're being reported by hip
- 9:04Speaker 1: hop dx dot com. Ronfest claimed that he was called
- 9:08Speaker 1: the N word by Eminem during the rap battle in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the late nineteen nineties. However, it appears that was not
- 9:14Speaker 1: actually the case, according to All hip Hop, who received
- 9:19Speaker 1: complete footage of the rap battle in question from D
- 9:24Speaker 1: twelve's Kuneva. I didn't listen to D twelve. I don't
- 9:29Speaker 1: know what Timmy David said. Who are these niggas? I
- 9:33Speaker 1: just never listened to D twelve. I'm sorry. Eminem does
- 9:36Speaker 1: not say the racial slur at any point during the exchange.
- 9:40Speaker 1: The footage proofs that Romfest misremembered the line Eminem threw
- 9:47Speaker 1: at him, and you can go to All hip hop
- 9:50Speaker 1: dot COM's instagram. They have the video up there. I'm
- 9:55Speaker 1: just gonna warn people who probably like to listen to
- 9:59Speaker 1: this podcast and don't generally hear curse words, you might
- 10:03Speaker 1: hear a few when I play this video, so let's
- 10:06Speaker 1: play for the audience. So there was a lot of
- 10:10Speaker 1: cuss words, but I didn't hear the N word. So
- 10:16Speaker 1: let's see if he said anything else. Okay, I'll just
- 10:23Speaker 1: read the lyrics also if you couldn't hear that. However,
- 10:27Speaker 1: in the footage, Eminem can clearly be heard rapping, I'll
- 10:30Speaker 1: let my razors split you till they have to staple
- 10:33Speaker 1: stitch you, and everybody in this fing place will miss
- 10:36Speaker 1: you if you try to turn my facial tissue facial
- 10:40Speaker 1: issue into a racial issue. And at the end at
- 10:46Speaker 1: the end of this article, it says Rampest has yet
- 10:49Speaker 1: to comment on the development. While Eminem did not respond
- 10:52Speaker 1: to the initial accusation, bad Boys Moving silenced, twelve Guy
- 11:00Speaker 1: added back, So honestly, it was reported people reacted to
- 11:05Speaker 1: it because there was no reason to not trust ron Fest,
- 11:09Speaker 1: because I don't think he gave us a reason to
- 11:12Speaker 1: not trust him at any point. You know, but this,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and I watched the video when he talked about it,
- 11:21Speaker 1: hearing this, knowing what he was saying, watching his face
- 11:24Speaker 1: as he was saying it in the interview. He knew
- 11:28Speaker 1: he was lying because he had an interview and he
- 11:30Speaker 1: wanted to, you know, say something that would get some
- 11:34Speaker 1: traction with news media, and it did well hip hop media,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and it did. But Now this looks bad. This looks
- 11:43Speaker 1: bad because if ron Fest came out and be like,
- 11:45Speaker 1: hey man, I'm standing right there that video was edited,
- 11:49Speaker 1: then whatever, But clearly it was not said. So let's
- 11:55Speaker 1: move on. So this past week it was announced, well,
- 12:02Speaker 1: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced who was
- 12:05Speaker 1: going to be inducted into the twenty into the twenty
- 12:09Speaker 1: twenty five class. And they've been doing more than one
- 12:15Speaker 1: hip hop artist seems like each year, which I think
- 12:18Speaker 1: is dope, and this year is outcast in Salt and
- 12:22Speaker 1: Pepper getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I know cats have been saying this for years, and
- 12:28Speaker 1: maybe you are young hip hop head, you know, getting
- 12:32Speaker 1: your feet wet mouth full of similarc I guess pause
- 12:37Speaker 1: on that whatever bars also, but you may be saying,
- 12:45Speaker 1: but it's the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Who cares?
- 12:48Speaker 1: And why and why do they get in versus somebody else.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'll into both for you, shorty, okay, and don't call
- 12:56Speaker 1: me young. I'm not your uncle, okay, but you can
- 13:00Speaker 1: call me o G. That's cool. I kind of like that.
- 13:04Speaker 1: But I felt like, well, I feel like, on the
- 13:09Speaker 1: one hand, with the first question or whatever, is the
- 13:14Speaker 1: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as it relates to
- 13:16Speaker 1: rappers getting in. When you look at Outcasts and Salt
- 13:20Speaker 1: and Pepper, who are hip hop legends in the game,
- 13:24Speaker 1: They've done so much to represent hip hop in so
- 13:27Speaker 1: many different ways, especially being from two different regions. So
- 13:32Speaker 1: I kind of like that as well. This hip hop
- 13:34Speaker 1: is not one burrow. Hip hop is not one city
- 13:39Speaker 1: or coast or nothing. It's all of it. It's global now,
- 13:43Speaker 1: let's just keep it a buck. It's global now, okay.
- 13:47Speaker 1: But I kind of feel like when it comes to
- 13:51Speaker 1: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a rapper,
- 13:55Speaker 1: they do look at a certain level of success, right,
- 14:00Speaker 1: which is not exactly how we look at it, right,
- 14:04Speaker 1: Like they Outcasts have sold records, Salt and Pepper have
- 14:08Speaker 1: sold records. They have whether it was intentional or not,
- 14:13Speaker 1: they have crossover hits, right. They have fans that are
- 14:17Speaker 1: not just all hip hop fans. And I'm not saying
- 14:22Speaker 1: that's a bad thing. That's actually a good thing, right
- 14:26Speaker 1: because you spread what real hip hop is and some
- 14:30Speaker 1: have played with that and you know, kind of gone
- 14:33Speaker 1: off the deep end and lost a little integrity with
- 14:36Speaker 1: what they create. But at the end, of it all.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It's about the fact that this group is bigger than
- 14:46Speaker 1: just the hip hop category, right, and that's how they
- 14:51Speaker 1: get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And
- 14:53Speaker 1: it makes sense for that kind of criteria. But when
- 14:57Speaker 1: hip hop heads talk about, well, you know, like which
- 15:04Speaker 1: is gonna happen because there's the hip Hop Museum going up,
- 15:07Speaker 1: but we talk about our Hall of Fame, well, then
- 15:11Speaker 1: it's different because it's not just about sales. Sometimes it's
- 15:16Speaker 1: not even I mean, you have to have impact, Like
- 15:20Speaker 1: they're not letting anybody into a hip hop Hall of Fame.
- 15:23Speaker 1: You have to have some form of impact, but it
- 15:26Speaker 1: doesn't have to mean that you've sold you've went platinum. Right.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Rockhem is one of the greatest rappers of all time
- 15:36Speaker 1: Cougi rap. Also, they've fathered in style and cadence and
- 15:42Speaker 1: influence some of your favorite rappers to this day, some
- 15:48Speaker 1: of the people you feel comfortable calling to go. Those
- 15:51Speaker 1: are just two examples. Similar on the West Coast with
- 15:54Speaker 1: Ice Cube and Snoop. They've influenced so many, right. But
- 16:00Speaker 1: the thing I want to get back to with rock
- 16:02Speaker 1: Him and Kuchi raps specifically, they didn't sell a lot
- 16:06Speaker 1: of records now, the way you hear us talk about them,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you would think platinum was easy, especially for an album
- 16:16Speaker 1: like Everic being Rock. EM's paid it full. It's it's
- 16:21Speaker 1: a monument in hip hop because it was just so Uh.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I was gonna say Mount Rushmore, That's what I really meant, uh.
- 16:31Speaker 1: But it's just such a staple cornerstone within hip hop
- 16:36Speaker 1: that the minute you mentioned it for hip hop has
- 16:40Speaker 1: that's the thought like, and if it was an official
- 16:44Speaker 1: hall of Fame that hip hop has tried in the past,
- 16:47Speaker 1: it kind of failed and didn't have the I think
- 16:53Speaker 1: through the so and so so didn't have the staying
- 16:56Speaker 1: power of what the rock and roll rock and Roll
- 16:59Speaker 1: Hall of Fame is to feel like the official hip
- 17:02Speaker 1: hop in a hall rock him's getting in quick, He's
- 17:08Speaker 1: getting in before a lot of the people who are
- 17:11Speaker 1: in the rock and roll Hall of Fame, and I
- 17:14Speaker 1: don't believe rock is in the hip hop Hall of Fame.
- 17:18Speaker 1: And that's why that's the difference, right You, for one,
- 17:23Speaker 1: the people who are kind of running this and you
- 17:25Speaker 1: get to vote, because I voted myself for Outcasts and
- 17:29Speaker 1: Salt and Pepper, But the people who like at the
- 17:34Speaker 1: end of the day would probably decide this, And I'm
- 17:36Speaker 1: kind of loose on you know, how these things work,
- 17:42Speaker 1: because I doubt it's just to vote, because I think if,
- 17:45Speaker 1: for example, rock Him started to put Up started to
- 17:51Speaker 1: do a campaign to get into the Rock and Roll
- 17:53Speaker 1: Hall of Fame next year, and it was solely based
- 17:55Speaker 1: off of public voting, he getting in because hip hop
- 18:01Speaker 1: is gonna show up for Rocket. But that just makes
- 18:04Speaker 1: me think this is a different kind of hall where
- 18:10Speaker 1: you have to have some commercial success and he just doesn't, right,
- 18:15Speaker 1: he doesn't. He doesn't come close to having the type
- 18:17Speaker 1: of success that Salt and Pepper had with some of
- 18:21Speaker 1: the hit records in the nineties that you know people
- 18:24Speaker 1: love like Shoot and What a Man and all of
- 18:26Speaker 1: that and all the other work they did, but also
- 18:29Speaker 1: their foundation within hip hop, like I love Tramp to
- 18:32Speaker 1: this day. I love that record. It's probably my favorite
- 18:36Speaker 1: Salt and Pepper record. I'm not gonna lie. And then Outcasts,
- 18:41Speaker 1: what more can you say? Outcasts? Shout out to Tony
- 18:47Speaker 1: from Into the Dome podcast. He put it best on
- 18:51Speaker 1: on Twitter where he said Outcast doesn't have an album
- 18:56Speaker 1: that sounds the same, not one, not one our When
- 19:00Speaker 1: I think in total, they have what five or maybe
- 19:05Speaker 1: six counting Idlewild, Let's go through it, Southern playlistic at Aliens,
- 19:12Speaker 1: stink on the stink on Her. What's what's the other one?
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm forgetting Quemini and yeah, so it's six because Love
- 19:24Speaker 1: Below and speaker Box and then Idlewild soundtrack, which I love.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I don't know why people hate it it. I like it.
- 19:30Speaker 1: It's good. But none of them sound the same. All
- 19:33Speaker 1: of them are different. And you know what what Idlewold
- 19:35Speaker 1: the movie was whack. I agree with that, boss, but
- 19:40Speaker 1: the music was great. And when you think about all
- 19:43Speaker 1: this stuff about Delta Blues in the movie centers idle Whild,
- 19:49Speaker 1: it is kind of ahead of its time. You know,
- 19:52Speaker 1: my voice get high. You know, it's go back and
- 19:57Speaker 1: go back and watch the movie. It's terrible. Let's just
- 20:00Speaker 1: go back and watch it. There's no vampires, and it relaxed.
- 20:03Speaker 1: But when you listen to the music and those influences
- 20:07Speaker 1: and what they were going for, they were kind of
- 20:11Speaker 1: already putting the spot like on black music in that way,
- 20:16Speaker 1: or blues in general as far as influences back then
- 20:21Speaker 1: and Outcast has so many different albums like It's almost
- 20:24Speaker 1: like you can pick a version of Outcast that you like.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. So they've sold records, They're
- 20:31Speaker 1: a huge group. I would love for them to after
- 20:34Speaker 1: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announce, just do it,
- 20:37Speaker 1: right on stage, announce a shadow drop. Okay, I said
- 20:41Speaker 1: it like an old man. But that's because I listened
- 20:44Speaker 1: to the children. Okay, I listened to the kids when
- 20:46Speaker 1: they talk gay Vegas. Love the kids. A shadow shadow
- 20:50Speaker 1: drop for people who are older is basically like a
- 20:55Speaker 1: surprise drop of music, or that term is kind of
- 21:01Speaker 1: popular in the video game world. But right there on
- 21:04Speaker 1: the stage, you know, we want to think, we want
- 21:06Speaker 1: to think, we want to think, we want to thank South.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Got something to say out New Outcast albums dropping tonight
- 21:13Speaker 1: at midnight, boom. The frenzy that would ensue online on
- 21:20Speaker 1: social media anticipation would be crazy. And I ain't talking
- 21:26Speaker 1: about no EP. Also, don't want no thirty songs, right,
- 21:30Speaker 1: just a clean, maybe twelve song new album from Outcasts.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Here you go tour with whoever coming later. Man listen
- 21:41Speaker 1: first of all, Pauls. But man, listen, listen when I
- 21:46Speaker 1: tell you. Okay, that's how the old heads used to
- 21:49Speaker 1: talk to us and be like what it was just
- 21:53Speaker 1: it would just be dope, So we'll see. Congratulations to outcasts,
- 21:57Speaker 1: Congratulations to Salt Pepper, who don't always get mentioned when
- 22:01Speaker 1: we're talking about female mcs in a hip hop game.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Salt Pepper got something to say, all right. And lastly,
- 22:12Speaker 1: so this week we got a couple of new drops
- 22:15Speaker 1: of music or projects in general, and I was trying
- 22:20Speaker 1: to decide on which album EP I should review, and
- 22:28Speaker 1: then I kind of thought like, well, why don't I
- 22:30Speaker 1: just do a quick review of all three? Now I
- 22:34Speaker 1: do these reviews just to inform the hip hop heads
- 22:38Speaker 1: who might be looking for something new or want to know, like, yo,
- 22:41Speaker 1: is this still good? Is he still good at what
- 22:44Speaker 1: he does? What else is out? Blah blah blah. So
- 22:48Speaker 1: if you don't know, I rate albums and EPs and
- 22:52Speaker 1: projects by giving them three listens. The first listen is
- 22:55Speaker 1: just me kind of vibing and listening to what's being presented.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Can listen is now I'm gonna listen more intently to
- 23:04Speaker 1: the lyrics, connect the concepts, all these different things, like
- 23:09Speaker 1: really get a deep dive into the album, really pay
- 23:12Speaker 1: attention to what the artist is presented and the third
- 23:15Speaker 1: listen is just to confirm my thoughts. So first up,
- 23:19Speaker 1: we're gonna do three albums, real quick, three projects, real quick.
- 23:24Speaker 1: First up, brand new album from Lloyd Banks, who has
- 23:29Speaker 1: been feeding the hip hop public. It was like Lloyd
- 23:32Speaker 1: Banks disappeared for a while, even though some of us
- 23:35Speaker 1: who know, especially in that fifth days the Halloween, having
- 23:40Speaker 1: mixtapes crazy and I kept wondering, like why does he
- 23:43Speaker 1: make more music? Well, when the pandemic went down, Lloyd
- 23:46Speaker 1: Bank say, you know what, y'all're about to get a trilogy.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Upon trilogy, He's released probably like six albums and something
- 23:53Speaker 1: crazy and a couple I think like two or three mixtapes. Well,
- 23:58Speaker 1: his latest album AO and three, despite my mistakes, it
- 24:04Speaker 1: is eighteen songs. And when Lloyd Banks, he don't do
- 24:09Speaker 1: he doesn't do a skits. So he giving you eighteen songs.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And I'm not talking about two minutes here, one minute
- 24:19Speaker 1: and twenty one seconds. No, he old school. He giving
- 24:22Speaker 1: you a couple of five minute records and all at
- 24:25Speaker 1: eighteen of them joints. But it only clocks in at
- 24:28Speaker 1: one hour and five minutes, which is still fun. Guest
- 24:33Speaker 1: features include Ransom Styles p ghost Face. First of all
- 24:39Speaker 1: those three, they're versus on his album Chef's Kiss, perfect
- 24:46Speaker 1: collaborations on perfect songs. What do I feel about this album?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Just straight up on a rated I think it's definitely
- 24:56Speaker 1: one of the best of the year. I wouldn't put
- 24:59Speaker 1: it in my top five because I feel like he
- 25:02Speaker 1: could have even though the songs are dope, he could
- 25:07Speaker 1: have removed maybe four or five songs from it because
- 25:14Speaker 1: Lloyd Banks is very monitor his delivery. His inflections really
- 25:20Speaker 1: don't change that much. But he's dumb nice with the pen,
- 25:25Speaker 1: so that's why you pull up to listen to what
- 25:27Speaker 1: he got to say. And again, the guest appearances are great.
- 25:32Speaker 1: But what I like most about this album is sometimes
- 25:37Speaker 1: sometimes Lloyd Banks can put out a project and the
- 25:41Speaker 1: beats are so so right, Like the last Halloween Havoc,
- 25:45Speaker 1: it was like, oh, that's cool. My expectations were much higher,
- 25:48Speaker 1: but it's all right this one though. The beats of
- 25:52Speaker 1: fire and again, these songs are longer than you're used
- 25:58Speaker 1: to hearing. Hopefully I don't have to say pause after that,
- 26:04Speaker 1: but it's just like it's it's great. So I think
- 26:08Speaker 1: that was it for me, right, Like when I'm getting
- 26:10Speaker 1: to like the tenth song. I kept feeling like the
- 26:15Speaker 1: album was about to be over and I didn't. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: didn't realize, like, yo, there's mad songs left, you know
- 26:21Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So it's kind of it's kind of
- 26:24Speaker 1: like a gift in a curse, right, Like it's dope.
- 26:27Speaker 1: You should love it. I think if you don't listen
- 26:30Speaker 1: to a lot of hip hop, and you know, you
- 26:33Speaker 1: kind of like live with the one or two things
- 26:35Speaker 1: you like, and you like Lloyd Banks, you'll like this album.
- 26:40Speaker 1: It's enough there to keep going listening. You know, you
- 26:43Speaker 1: can recite the lyrics and all that. I really like
- 26:46Speaker 1: what he did with art of rap if you want
- 26:49Speaker 1: some real hip hop lyricism, wordplay, flipping, you know things,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you know, because it's about rap and he does a
- 26:59Speaker 1: lot of mentioning names of rappers. But you'll see just
- 27:04Speaker 1: listen to that record. It's the way he ties it together. Though, yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 1: I think it's a dope album. Won't be in my
- 27:12Speaker 1: top five because of what I said earlier about how
- 27:16Speaker 1: long the album is and with him kind of being monotone,
- 27:21Speaker 1: you know, you can My mind started to drift a
- 27:23Speaker 1: little bit as we got like past track twelve, So
- 27:27Speaker 1: but it's a it's a great album. Listen to it
- 27:29Speaker 1: for yourself, Decide for yourself. Another project that dropped. It's
- 27:35Speaker 1: being listened as an album. But dog, this is an
- 27:37Speaker 1: EP A need a Butcher released at EP called Excelsior
- 27:44Speaker 1: Right where did I hear that from? Like Back to
- 27:48Speaker 1: the Future or something like that. Whatever, But it's seven songs,
- 27:54Speaker 1: twenty minutes in twenty three seconds, so that is definitely
- 27:58Speaker 1: EP territory features. He has, Uh who else is on hand?
- 28:06Speaker 1: I can't see most of these people. I do not
- 28:08Speaker 1: know who they are, Okay, but Bodie James is on hand,
- 28:12Speaker 1: and y'all know, or maybe you don't know. I'm not
- 28:14Speaker 1: the biggest Bodie James fan because I'm not the biggest
- 28:18Speaker 1: fan of his style of rap, which is that disinterested,
- 28:23Speaker 1: you know, stupor kind of rap flow. But boldly showed
- 28:29Speaker 1: up on this record. He got a little energy on it.
- 28:31Speaker 1: It's called a duffel Bag Hotti's Revenge, and I think
- 28:36Speaker 1: I know when I said that he played like what
- 28:38Speaker 1: I think the idea was kind of like a real
- 28:41Speaker 1: laid back kind of joint. As far as the album,
- 28:44Speaker 1: stoles p is crazy on here on a song called
- 28:47Speaker 1: Toxic stoles P. I know he mentioned maybe a year
- 28:51Speaker 1: ago that he was going to record a final album.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I think that final album is going to be crazy
- 28:56Speaker 1: because Stiles. When I heard him rapping on it and
- 29:00Speaker 1: he's on the Lloyd Banks joint, I'm like, Oh, that
- 29:03Speaker 1: doesn't sound like a man who needs to retire. No,
- 29:08Speaker 1: that sounds like a man who needs to just don't
- 29:11Speaker 1: make albums all the time. At one point, Stoles People's
- 29:14Speaker 1: coming out with albums like it felt like every week.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And it was a lot because some albums were really dope.
- 29:20Speaker 1: He was never really whack, but some albums were just
- 29:23Speaker 1: kind of like yah, And I said, I'll do a
- 29:26Speaker 1: tear pist. A tear pist? Wow, what is a tear pist?
- 29:30Speaker 1: What is that? Blame it on the allergyes, y'all tearless?
- 29:36Speaker 1: Where I rank Styles Pie's catalog. I thought about doing
- 29:41Speaker 1: it for the Locks in general, but not just as
- 29:45Speaker 1: group albums, but just all the Locks solo joints. The
- 29:52Speaker 1: Jadakiss is the one where you can look at it
- 29:54Speaker 1: and say, oh, it's just a couple of albums. I'll
- 29:56Speaker 1: do that, But Styles and She have so many albums.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I don't if I could do it, I don't know,
- 30:02Speaker 1: So maybe I'll just do that tearless for Styles because
- 30:06Speaker 1: he's put it in a lot of work and I
- 30:07Speaker 1: think his catalog is step slept on. As far as
- 30:11Speaker 1: this Benny the Butcher project, I'm a big Benny the
- 30:16Speaker 1: Butcher fan, and I gotta watch my words because last
- 30:20Speaker 1: year I wasn't like too hyped about his album and
- 30:25Speaker 1: then I wind up not the summertime Benny joined the
- 30:30Speaker 1: one like Everybody Can't Go. I think that was the
- 30:34Speaker 1: name of the title. I'm the name of the title
- 30:36Speaker 1: name of the album. We're going to end this podcast
- 30:38Speaker 1: quick boy, because I am the meds got me going
- 30:42Speaker 1: crazy with this allergy. But I talked about that album
- 30:47Speaker 1: last year and I was like, yeah, I'm kind of disappointed,
- 30:49Speaker 1: but da da dah. And then the more I listened
- 30:51Speaker 1: to it, I was like, Okay, I like the album,
- 30:53Speaker 1: but what was I thinking? I think it's going to
- 30:57Speaker 1: be the same for this whereas I don't feel like
- 31:01Speaker 1: this is top notch. Benny the Butcher rhymen like his
- 31:04Speaker 1: best rhymen. Ever, I like the beats, I like some
- 31:10Speaker 1: of the rohms. You know, I think it's good. I
- 31:14Speaker 1: don't know if it's gonna make the Best of the
- 31:16Speaker 1: year because it's not extraordinary to me like the albums
- 31:20Speaker 1: that I would add to the best of the year
- 31:23Speaker 1: so far, at least right now. Maybe it would make
- 31:28Speaker 1: the list, but that's recentcy bias basically when it comes
- 31:32Speaker 1: to that. So that's that. If you like Benny the Butcher,
- 31:38Speaker 1: this may be hit a miss. I'm curious to see
- 31:40Speaker 1: what people think. Leave it comments in the comments section below.
- 31:44Speaker 1: And lastly, there was a new EP from Jericho Jackson. No,
- 31:49Speaker 1: that's not the other Jackson brother who was adopted. That's
- 31:53Speaker 1: a group featuring rapper l Zi and producer Crisis. They
- 32:00Speaker 1: did a project a while back that is really dope.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I think it was self titled Jericho Jackson. Yeah, Crisis
- 32:08Speaker 1: and Elzi are Jericho Jackson. I'm probably gonna spend that
- 32:11Speaker 1: again because it's been a while. They released that in
- 32:13Speaker 1: twenty eighteen. It was like critically acclaimed when it came
- 32:17Speaker 1: to the hip hop heads. I believe I had it
- 32:19Speaker 1: as one of the best of the year, maybe not
- 32:21Speaker 1: top five. They got a new EP called I Am Him.
- 32:27Speaker 1: But I will say this, it's cool, but it's really
- 32:32Speaker 1: only three songs, three short songs, and the other six tracks.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I mean the other three tracks are instrumentals of those songs,
- 32:42Speaker 1: So it's thirteen minutes total. And I'm a little disappointed.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm not gonna front. I kind of expected more. I
- 32:54Speaker 1: guess my I was hyped a little bit because I
- 32:58Speaker 1: thought we were getting an album, right, and maybe this
- 33:02Speaker 1: is to lead to an eventual album. And these are
- 33:06Speaker 1: the quote unquote throwaways from what we're going to get
- 33:11Speaker 1: to that I say you should have dropped the album,
- 33:15Speaker 1: because honestly, I'd rather you just go for it with
- 33:19Speaker 1: everything you've got than to give us three songs that
- 33:22Speaker 1: are not whack at all but just kind of like cool.
- 33:27Speaker 1: So again, if you're a person that don't listen to everything,
- 33:32Speaker 1: and you have the things you like and you like
- 33:34Speaker 1: that first album, this might be a nice little, you know,
- 33:37Speaker 1: sample size for what's to come. But I was just
- 33:40Speaker 1: disappointed because I expected a little bit more. And when
- 33:44Speaker 1: I say that, I mean just more songs. So I'm
- 33:48Speaker 1: definitely gonna be listening to it, but I don't even
- 33:50Speaker 1: feel like as an EP it's gonna make my top
- 33:54Speaker 1: of the year, because for me, I'm listening to a
- 33:58Speaker 1: ton of hip hop and and that competition is crazy.
- 34:04Speaker 1: You know, you gotta have something that's dope. And we
- 34:06Speaker 1: got so many albums that we know are coming this year.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I mean, I'm saying, so, there you have it. Have
- 34:15Speaker 1: you heard Roy Banks's new album, Benny de Busher's new EP,
- 34:20Speaker 1: Jericho Jackson's new VP. Leave your comments in a comments
