- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Welcome to a new work week. And as
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get going, I want to take us to the
- 0:10Speaker 1: scriptures and read a beautiful passage out of Jesus' teaching
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the book of Matthew in the Bible.
- 0:18Speaker 1: When we start our day listening to what God has
- 0:22Speaker 1: to say about life, it helps to shape the way
- 0:25Speaker 1: that we think about life, about why we are here,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and helps to also develop and deepen our personal relationship
- 0:35Speaker 1: with God.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And so this morning let's turn to Matthew 25 in
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Bible, and Jesus is in the middle of a
- 0:45Speaker 1: conversation telling His disciples to always remember that He's going
- 0:50Speaker 1: to return one day after he's ascended to be with
- 0:54Speaker 1: the Father. Life goes on in this world, and we
- 0:58Speaker 1: can get the idea that it's just going on indefinitely.
- 1:01Speaker 1: But Jesus says to them in verse 13 of Matthew 25,
- 1:06Speaker 1: Be on the alert then, for you do not know
- 1:09Speaker 1: the day nor the hour when Jesus will return and
- 1:14Speaker 1: our lives will be held accountable for how we've lived them.
- 1:18Speaker 1: He goes on to say, for it is just like
- 1:20Speaker 1: a man about to go on a journey who called
- 1:23Speaker 1: his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
- 1:28Speaker 1: To one he gave 5 talents. A talent was a
- 1:31Speaker 1: certain weight of gold.
- 1:34Speaker 1: To another 2 and to another 1, each according to
- 1:39Speaker 1: his own ability, so he knew how good they were
- 1:42Speaker 1: at handling money, and he left each of them this
- 1:44Speaker 1: large sum of money according to his own ability, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: he went on his journey.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Immediately the one who had received the 5 talents, the
- 1:53Speaker 1: biggest amount of money, went and traded with them and
- 1:56Speaker 1: gained 5 more talents in the same manner. The one
- 2:00Speaker 1: who had received the 2 talents gained 2 more.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But he who received the one talent went away and
- 2:08Speaker 1: dug in the ground and hid his master's money.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Now after a long time, the master of those slaves
- 2:17Speaker 1: came and settled accounts with them.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And the one who had received the 5 talents came
- 2:23Speaker 1: up and brought 5 more talents, saying, Master, you entrusted
- 2:27Speaker 1: 5 talents to me. See, I have gained 5 more talents.
- 2:31Speaker 1: His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant.
- 2:36Speaker 1: You were faithful with a few things. I will put
- 2:39Speaker 1: you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy
- 2:43Speaker 1: of your master.
- 2:45Speaker 1: The one also who had received the 2 talents came
- 2:47Speaker 1: up and said, Master, you entrusted to me 2 talents. See,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I have gained 2 more talents. His master said to him,
- 2:54Speaker 1: Well done, good and faithful servant.
- 2:58Speaker 1: You were faithful with a few things. I will put
- 3:01Speaker 1: you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy
- 3:04Speaker 1: of your master.
- 3:07Speaker 1: The one who had received the one talent came and said, Master,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where
- 3:15Speaker 1: you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and I was afraid and went away and hid your
- 3:21Speaker 1: talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I didn't lose any of it, he's saying.
- 3:28Speaker 1: But his master answered and said to him, You wicked,
- 3:31Speaker 1: lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did
- 3:34Speaker 1: not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. Then
- 3:37Speaker 1: you ought to have put my money in the bank,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and on my arrival I would have received my money
- 3:42Speaker 1: back with interest, at least.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Therefore, take away the talent from him and give it
- 3:48Speaker 1: to the one who has the 10 talents, for to
- 3:50Speaker 1: every one who has shall more be given, and he
- 3:53Speaker 1: shall have an abundance. But from the one who does
- 3:56Speaker 1: not have even what he does have will be taken
- 3:58Speaker 1: away and cast out the worthless slave into the outer darkness.
- 4:03Speaker 1: In that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Well, in this passage.
- 4:10Speaker 1: There's this awesome.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Commendation. These words that will be so wonderful to hear
- 4:17Speaker 1: for those who have used the life God has given
- 4:21Speaker 1: them well in a way that would please God and
- 4:25Speaker 1: bring Him glory.
- 4:27Speaker 1: These words well done, good and faithful servant.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so much is at stake about this life. It's
- 4:35Speaker 1: not just our own finances that are at stake or
- 4:39Speaker 1: our progression in our business. It's not just what happens
- 4:43Speaker 1: in this day.
- 4:45Speaker 1: It's the fact that I am here for God and
- 4:48Speaker 1: God is going to hold me accountable for how I
- 4:51Speaker 1: use my life.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm John North.
