- 0:00Another example of this idea of balance and 421 on the bottom,
- 0:06we said sometimes you have to rebuke someone, which feels like
- 0:08it's a tough thing and it's an aggressive item.
- 0:12But at times, if you're in the right position and you're right
- 0:14person, it's actually a better thing, will lead to more peace
- 0:19and more productivity if you rebuke rather than remaining
- 0:23silent. And then he says, how many
- 0:26times, however, did he have the opposite?
- 0:29Your people rebuke in times when they're not being listened and
- 0:33they only caused fights. The compa Mimi Canes Adam Locher
- 0:37hater in the Macomb. How many times you have people
- 0:40who are getting angry, they're getting frustrated.
- 0:41They start yelling about something Obis man a situation
- 0:45or a time was ineffective. Obis Manche and de Baranesh
- 0:49Mahima situation time where his words will not be heard.
- 0:53They got Emland late, but it's your Ted vision.
- 0:58What you trigger actually is more sinning with Khalil Hashem
- 1:03and Mohalil Hashem Lazif alhatatam pesha, the people,
- 1:08these people to create Mohali Hashem by aiding to the sin.
- 1:12So we know sometimes rebuking is is effective.
- 1:16Many, many times it backfires. Well, that seems to have the
- 1:20hatred or you. Can't hear from Jack.
- 1:23It'd be very pure when it comes to all aggressive means.
- 1:27That doesn't mean you don't have to be aggressive, but it does
- 1:29mean exactly, but it does mean. Now when you're being
- 1:34aggressive, recognize the fact that sometimes it's very
- 1:38necessary as he's telling you and sometimes it's she being
- 1:41effective. He never gives up his anal
- 1:43mental has to do with stalk in such type situations.
- 1:47As much as you're really want to say your point and you're
- 1:50watching something be done and not the way it was done years
- 1:54ago and those types of comments that we all have.
- 1:56Even so the best thing to do is to remain 7.
- 2:01Now how do you know? We discussed every how you know,
- 2:04but it's really something you have to deal with, which is to
- 2:07figure out that there's no one-size-fits-all.
- 2:10This is one of the reasons and when people ask advice, they
- 2:14need to be very honest with the person they're asking and honest
- 2:17with themselves. I've heard many, many times,
- 2:21ready many times where people came to me and say, you know,
- 2:25I'm doing this. And by the way, so and so told
- 2:27me to do it. It's a good thing.
- 2:29He told me I have to do it. He told me it's a mitzvah and
- 2:32they're quoted good people do it.
- 2:34Many times they're quoting good people.
- 2:37How do you explain when you know someone is doing something that
- 2:40seems wrong and they're quoting solid sources, great sources,
- 2:46whether it be laymen, rabbis get to a lean even, and you kind of
- 2:50have a sense that even though they're calling such people,
- 2:53they may not be doing the right thing.
- 2:55How's it possible, the way it's possible?
- 2:57It's not because the rappers are not Saints or they're not
- 3:00geniuses. They're not not.
- 3:01That's true. But still the rappers have a, a,
- 3:04a tadishmaya that gives them strength to their words.
- 3:07Great strength to the words. You have an example.
- 3:09I have examples on a mind I don't want to answer.
- 3:12It may answer your question if a guy has someone an opinion about
- 3:16a certain. There are many examples you can
- 3:18think of all sorts of types of whether it be a dispute or it's
- 3:23a marriage dispute, a business dispute, a family issue, a or
- 3:27job to take these types of things.
- 3:30They ask great people and often times at times I want to say
- 3:34often and at times their advice that they got.
- 3:37I'm a great person seems off. In fact, I was with my wife at
- 3:42Israel. This is an example.
- 3:44I'm answered all by a certain question.
- 3:46And the rabbi gave me an answer. He's a great man.
- 3:49And the rabbi gave me an answer. And my wife said, why'd you ask
- 3:52the question that way? OK, She said, because you led to
- 3:56an answer that she didn't like. And she's right.
- 3:58Actually. It wasn't the kind of answer
- 4:00that's appropriate for me. So what does that mean?
- 4:02That means don't ask. No, it means be honest to
- 4:06recognizing that you need to have a balance.
- 4:09And every person has a different answer and every person has a
- 4:13different situation. And unless you ask someone only,
- 4:17either explain to him the whole case or he knows you very well,
- 4:23or maybe he's trying to get a general to the opinion.
- 4:27Don't just go by the drive by answer.
- 4:30There's been much destruction out there from drive by answers.
- 4:34You need to have real thought out person by person literally
- 4:40tailor made for you question and answer.
- 4:43Why is that the case? Shouldn't the IT be A1 size fits
- 4:46all answer is no. This idea of balance pruning
- 4:48has. That in a rabbi
- 4:49one-size-fits-all Rabbi. You have to follow your rabbi
- 4:51and. Things like, that's something
- 4:52else, which means if you're going to you, you want to.
- 4:54It's a different concept. You know, when you're making a
- 4:57decision, it's more like which direction of life do you choose?
- 5:00Often times people go. Often that people go and they
- 5:05have a certain rabbit and that becomes their path in life, and
- 5:08very often they mirror their rabbi if they want to copy him a
- 5:11lot of ways easily is a whole thing.
- 5:14It becomes the whole world. That's a different concept.
- 5:15That's not deciding a specific case, case by case.
- 5:18The guy wants to know, take that job.
- 5:20Don't take that job. Rabbi, keep well.
- 5:23Does rabbi know your temperament as you know that he has to know
- 5:27everything 'cause there is a level of see a Titus mash and
- 5:30Hoffs as you know your temperament does you know?
- 5:32You shall go and buy it somewhat.
- 5:33Does he know what kind of money do you need?
- 5:36As you know your self esteem situation where maybe that job
- 5:39is not is demeaning for you. If he does know all that or if
- 5:42he does have a good picture on people, then you take their
- 5:45answer. But if you just simply ask him
- 5:47what's better, this or that and it's one of those, then often
- 5:51times an answer could be actually be not the answer for
- 5:54you. And why is it the case?
- 5:56Isn't that pure and perfect? It is, but it's also a concept
- 5:59of tailor made. Every person's got a different
- 6:02balance and a different situation.
- 6:04Shouldn't send back to these points, these examples he gave
- 6:06us over here. Should you protest something
- 6:08that's off or should you not? All depends.
- 6:12If your protest is going to make you look like a crazy person and
- 6:15people are just going to write you off and you can have no
- 6:17effect, there's no purpose in our protest.
- 6:19Even if you're standing on the right side, history doesn't make
- 6:23a difference. You're not doing anything on the
- 6:26other times, maybe that protest or display to the world that
- 6:30there's another side. And even if it's ineffective
- 6:33right now, maybe in history, over time that'll make a
- 6:36difference and every case is different.
- 6:38But every person needs to realize that.
- 6:40Does it balance your situation and balance your decision and it
- 6:43requires thinking through to a great degree.
- 6:46That's the point to that. It's great, it's true, it's
- 6:51real, and it has to develop by you as Taylor mate and every
- 6:55person, one person can have one ruling, another one can have
- 6:59another one. It's not simply is fact.
- 7:03Even then, there are times you take give a guy a loophole, you
- 7:06don't give another person a loophole.
- 7:07That's a little clear, but decisions, advice, wisdom, every
- 7:13person's got their own mold and both the rabbis need you
- 7:18understand that and the great ones do apply that.
- 7:20And at the same time, we need to understand that our own mold is
- 7:24unique and balanced. Now what do I do with this?
- 7:26How do I make any move in life? That is how it works.
- 7:29You have to wave the odds. You have to go back to those
- 7:31three steps because of this fact.
- 7:33You can't just read a rule book and say it says that over here.
- 7:37You take even people that say nowadays who talk about certain
- 7:41lines of work not getting more detailed, A, because some of
- 7:44this in the lines of work and B, because, you know, my opinion
- 7:49has changed a bit. Even people talk about lines of
- 7:51work happens to be very often. It's a very convenient opinion,
- 7:55which means you're not in the line of work, you know you your
- 7:58fault as a company, whatever it may be.
- 8:00You don't need to go there yet, one person or another.
- 8:04And that makes the opinion a bit more convenient.
- 8:06It doesn't mean you can't have a view, but I've seen so many
- 8:10times that people who stood on that soapbox and preach are now
- 8:16doing exactly what they preach. They preach against.
- 8:19How's the puzzle? Are they sketch?
- 8:22No, that's sketch. They just didn't know they
- 8:25weren't really facing life when they gave their opinions the
- 8:28same way people give opinions at often times against those who
- 8:32are not exactly that way. They never give opinions about
- 8:34their own way. I'm a big time, you know,
- 8:37follow, I told you all the time I follow, you know, these, these
- 8:42talk radio and these things, these different, all these
- 8:44different pundits. And you find over and over again
- 8:48that all they're doing is bashing the other side.
- 8:50And even as it seems, in fact, the only person who's actually
- 8:53better at this than most of these guys is the president.
- 8:57He actually has a part of them that knows I want to continue
- 9:00doing business. I can switch sides on a diet's
- 9:02marketing, though. He's smart.
- 9:04He knows what he's doing. These other guys are literally
- 9:07they bashing and bashing the other side.
- 9:09And oftentimes you don't realize the other side basically is
- 9:12carrying opinions they used to hold of, right.
- 9:14I mean, he could take, for example, not to get too
- 9:17political. You take immigration, used to be
- 9:20a while ago the Democrats, Democrats were pro deporting
- 9:24certain people. Then their opinion shifted right
- 9:28and now they're yelling and screaming and they're yelling
- 9:30and screaming and opinions that they themselves or at least
- 9:32their leaders held obviously. But that's one way and
- 9:35Republicans the other way. This is how things worked.
- 9:38But the idea is that president should realize why is that the
- 9:42case? That's because the whole point
- 9:44of these opinions were bashing the other side.
- 9:46They didn't realize that there is another side.
- 9:48Even these political opinions, there are still two sides.
- 9:50Everything has two sides. Every person is not realizing
- 9:54that everything requires a balance.
- 9:56Everything requires weighing both odds.
- 9:59They're going to make major mistakes.
- 10:01That's true with opinions. It's true with points of view,
- 10:05with protesting. It's true with rebuking.
- 10:09You know, how many times have you know you've seen someone,
- 10:15someone else's kid do something wrong and you feel like Katie's
- 10:20following his parents disaster, the whole thing, They don't know
- 10:23what they're doing. And then my own son does
- 10:27something a little similar, right?
- 10:29And here I'm thinking to myself, anyone ever says something like
- 10:32that to my son, I'll be very upset at him.
- 10:35But someone's old kid, they got me nervous right when they were
- 10:41acting that way. How do you explain that?
- 10:43How do you explain that? Their kid got me very nervous,
- 10:46but my own child and I was feeling like it's only because
- 10:49their parents are too passive on their children and they're
- 10:51allowing it to happen all day. I have a whole picture on my
- 10:53mind and then my own son does this exact same thing, No
- 10:58picture. I don't want anyone to say a
- 10:59word to him because the shoe was on the other foot and he
- 11:03realized it's not as simple. That's how it works with points
- 11:06of view. And that's the way to be a
- 11:07little more delicate, a little bit more work through.
- 11:11Let's even grow up. It's happening as the art.
- 11:13That's how it works. Has to be a little bit more
- 11:15worked out when it comes to your points of view and realizing
- 11:18that nothing is that simple. So that tells me not to say a
- 11:21word, never to have an opinion, right?
- 11:24Am I making you freeze? But it doesn't say that.
- 11:26What it says is think things through and they're not as cut
- 11:32and dry as they are when you're standing on the other side.
- 11:36That is the occasion, comes two points of view.
- 11:38It's the case when it comes to protesting something, to
- 11:41rebuking. It's the case as well when it
- 11:44comes to advice. So it's.
- 11:46Learning. Come out all day.
- 11:47You're doing that. You have two opinions.
- 11:49You're developing the topic. You're showing how.
- 11:51That's how life goes. Life is the exact same way.
- 11:54It's same way again what all people know and nothing.
- 11:57And by the way, and you notice, I happen to notice presently,
- 12:00those who learn a lot, their opinions are much more weave
- 12:06through and then those who just give blanket statements.
- 12:12I read books from advice, people who write things and I'm
- 12:16listening, I'm reading these books, I'm thinking to myself,
- 12:18even if they're, you know, total people, religious people.
- 12:21Have I said that that's a great point, but it's way too
- 12:25definitive. You're giving me a point.
- 12:27I understand self help books are tried to have a they're trying
- 12:30to carve a market. They're trying, they're trying
- 12:32to what self help books do is they're trying to make the
- 12:35entire world depending on that one idea, the one moment, the
- 12:39one decision, the one minute. All right, all the things, you
- 12:42know, the four, the four hour work week, whatever they give
- 12:44you as key, Lou, that is the definition of success.
- 12:48Fine, that's their book. That's the angle.
- 12:50But when someone is a Twitter person, they cannot be, in my
- 12:53humble opinion, so definitive in their statements because you
- 12:58know what, it's true for you. It's not true for me.
- 13:02If I would tell you this, how it works with every father's got to
- 13:07give his kids 10 minutes a day. And you know what?
- 13:09If you don't give your kids 10 minutes a day, each child,
- 13:11forget about it. Disaster that might be for that
- 13:14father. But the other father might be a
- 13:17beautiful job on Shabbat, might have a wonderful Friday night
- 13:20table and an amazing Shabbat morning meal.
- 13:24He might do a great job bringing his kids to school, or maybe
- 13:27even less than that. Maybe his Sundays are amazing.
- 13:29I don't know. Everyone's got their own ankle.
- 13:31It's not as cut and dry as people love to make it.
- 13:36I don't blame myself. All books written by non Jews or
- 13:40Jews of that matter doesn't matter.
- 13:41Written by people that are trying to give an angle to the
- 13:44world, I don't blame them. Happens to be that over time I
- 13:48got a little nervous on those books because every time I read
- 13:51one of those books that make it look at the whole world is
- 13:54dependent on that one point. As if everything boils down to
- 13:58that one angle. The entire world is not boiled
- 14:01down to your 4 hour workweek. Whatever they call that book.
- 14:05It doesn't boil down to, you know, your idea that I don't
- 14:07know, savor only those moments. Not that's not the entire life.
- 14:11So those cell phone books, personally, even though I I
- 14:15enjoy them and it's angles that are very interesting and not no
- 14:19one point is a be all handle. If you read them in a way of
- 14:22saying, let me try that, Let me try that.
- 14:26I apply that great if you read them as if you're buying into
- 14:29the concept. I know someone who has ups and
- 14:33downs in life and every once in a while it tells me about
- 14:35another book and another book, another book and being to
- 14:39myself. These books are not you know
- 14:41they're not your answer, not because they don't have tada
- 14:43involved in them. It's not the point.
- 14:45It's because it's not that simple.
- 14:48How that's what how you worked. How do you live life?
- 14:51The answer is really this is part of the reason why there's a
- 14:56concept called shimush. What's shimush?
- 14:59Shimush is following a person, watching an individual right on
- 15:04the way of life. Why is that more important than
- 15:07just their word? Because when you watch people,
- 15:10great people, over time you learn this idea exactly that
- 15:15they can in one scenario, give one, one angle.
- 15:19One person comes in and asks them what should I do in the
- 15:21situation? They rabbi tells them listen
- 15:24your wife for you. The way you have to respond to
- 15:27that situation is after a while, don't continue the conversation.
- 15:31Just stop it. Don't continue the conversation
- 15:34because it's going on a rabbit hole.
- 15:36I end up leading to more issues and the other husband, the rabbi
- 15:39is going to tell her, listen for your wife, you have to address
- 15:43the issues. You have to talk her, talk out
- 15:44with her. How could he give two different
- 15:46advice to the people? The answer is the whole makeup
- 15:49is different. The wife is different, the
- 15:50husband is different, the structure is different.
- 15:53Maybe one man is a very, you know, very sweet guy.
- 15:56And if he goes down that road, he'll be abused.
- 15:58And the other man is too much of A hotline person.
- 16:01If he goes down the road of not talking to her, he'll end up
- 16:04verbally abusing her. And the rabbi realizes there's a
- 16:08path that requires weaving. And we have to realize
- 16:12ourselves, well, those are shin cases, but ourselves as as well,
- 16:15every one of us has to recognize based on our experience and
- 16:19watching other great people for a long time, you learn about the
- 16:23path. And it's hard to explain how
- 16:25clear this is, but it's unbelievably clear that there
- 16:29are those who believe you just adapt the word.
- 16:33Someone says something, you take it to the bank.
- 16:35And then there are those who realize you adapt to the life
- 16:38you've witnessed and the lives and you can learn from a lot of
- 16:41people, thank God. And you watch and you learn, you
- 16:44listen and you develop and you're moulding and you realize
- 16:48it's not simply one size fits old.
- 16:51It has to be tailor made from that person and in fact has to
- 16:55be absorbed in a tailor made way as well.
- 16:58This is, in my opinion, all the most important things a person
- 17:01can realize. And suddenly you can develop and
- 17:03develop and develop. And eventually all the time
- 17:06you're going to be the source to other people 'cause they're
- 17:08going to watch. They're going to be watching a
- 17:10person who's living life the same way.
- 17:13You know, this boils down to one last point, then we'll stop.
- 17:16And that last point is the concept of being an original.
- 17:19Being an original is a fundamental thing in life.
- 17:23There are copycats and there are originals, and the difference
- 17:26between a copycat and original is not too noticeable
- 17:29originally. But over time you start
- 17:31noticing, oh geez, as they call them, original.
- 17:35People don't make the same mistakes that copycats make.
- 17:38Why do copycats make Morse mistakes?
- 17:40Because they think so and so do this.
- 17:42I'm going to do the same thing even though it's going down the
- 17:44wrong Rd. But I'm following my leader.
- 17:46I'm following what he told me. I'm following what he does.
- 17:49You have to follow with the recognition that you want to
- 17:52adopt his life, not adopt his one move.
- 17:55If you adopt his one move, then it's a dangerous zone.
- 17:58If you adopt his life, you end up creating your own original
- 18:03mold and you create your own tail and made like yourself.
- 18:06I was like.
