- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome aboard everyone to the first back to back basketball
- 0:04Speaker 1: coaches shows on this Monday night. And we start with
- 0:06Speaker 1: Gino Oriema and later Dan Hurley next hour and we'll
- 0:10Speaker 1: visit with Terras Reed Junior on the men's side. We'll
- 0:11Speaker 1: also have one of Gino's players later. And let's do
- 0:15Speaker 1: it over you. First of all, we're three games in
- 0:18Speaker 1: teams one and them all. Good battle at Greensboro on
- 0:21Speaker 1: Friday night, Gino, where your team figured out a way
- 0:24Speaker 1: to hang on and beat the tar Heels. But give
- 0:26Speaker 1: me your sense overall what you've seen first three games
- 0:29Speaker 1: from your team is the Huskies get ready to play
- 0:32Speaker 1: Wednesday and then head of the Bahamas.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Well, I would say that there's a little bit of
- 0:44Speaker 2: a early pattern, you know, to how we're playing.
- 0:51Speaker 3: When when we're struggling to to.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Make shots, you know, we.
- 1:05Speaker 3: We get a little bit standing around, a little stagnant,
- 1:10Speaker 3: and we lose our aggressiveness and and you know, I
- 1:16Speaker 3: attribute that some of that to you know, a lot
- 1:19Speaker 3: of young guys out there, a lot of different lineups
- 1:22Speaker 3: now that we have where you know, we maybe didn't.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Used to do that for a couple of years for
- 1:26Speaker 2: obvious reasons.
- 1:27Speaker 3: But so there's been that, and then there's been incredible
- 1:32Speaker 3: moments where we just run off ten, twelve, fifteen straight
- 1:36Speaker 3: points like we did against you know, South Florida. You
- 1:40Speaker 3: know we score thirty points in the third quarter, or
- 1:44Speaker 3: you know what we did in the first quarter against.
- 1:50Speaker 2: UNC.
- 1:51Speaker 3: So I like what I've what I've seen because it
- 1:57Speaker 3: allows us to teach a lot of different things from
- 2:00Speaker 3: the not so great and it's something to build on
- 2:05Speaker 3: for all the great stuff that we're doing. So I'm
- 2:10Speaker 3: I'm pretty optimistic, to be honest with you.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Paige went, I gave you sixty over twenty nine
- 2:16Speaker 1: in the first ten minutes Friday night, and it didn't
- 2:20Speaker 1: seem like it, or I should say it seemed like
- 2:23Speaker 1: it was in the floor of the offense. There really wasn't,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, any just Page taking things over on our own.
- 2:30Speaker 1: It just seemed like everything was going pretty well and
- 2:32Speaker 1: she just happened to have the ball in her.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Hands right right.
- 2:37Speaker 3: There's very few times when you know, Page just goes
- 2:42Speaker 3: off on the tangent and by herself to just try,
- 2:45Speaker 3: you know, try to get points on her.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Own that that that generally doesn't happen.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I think the the aggressiveness, the the way she's moving
- 3:03Speaker 4: without the ball.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Now, how the first thing on her mind isn't necessarily
- 3:10Speaker 3: to get other people involved.
- 3:14Speaker 2: So all that's been.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Really really good, and that's, you know, that's what we
- 3:17Speaker 3: need from her.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I have to figure out I have.
- 3:24Speaker 3: To do a better job and make sure I don't
- 3:25Speaker 3: play her that many minutes in a row. You know,
- 3:33Speaker 3: she may have even played almost the entire first quarter,
- 3:36Speaker 3: and so I may need to, you.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Know, give her a breather once in a while and
- 3:43Speaker 2: keep her fresh. And but.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Right now, she's she's the best out there. So I'm
- 3:53Speaker 3: I'm proud of her.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Gin know, has she fully embraced playing against contact, because
- 3:58Speaker 1: obviously if you're defending or that's how you play it, right.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, she's she's done a much better job with that.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I don't think I don't think the officials are on
- 4:09Speaker 2: her side.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I think there's a you know, I think there's a
- 4:13Speaker 3: lot going on, and you know, she doesn't get the
- 4:19Speaker 3: benefit of the doubt a lot of times. But for sure,
- 4:24Speaker 3: she's she's expecting to get a hit, she's expecting the contact,
- 4:30Speaker 3: and that's that's one more thing that that she's going
- 4:38Speaker 3: to eliminate from what the other team could do. And
- 4:45Speaker 3: she's not you know, she's not shying away from anything.
- 4:49Speaker 3: So I think that's a good thing.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Sarah Strong did not have the best shooting game,
- 4:55Speaker 1: particularly on the perimeter, but still finished with a double double.
- 4:58Speaker 1: She gave his six assists. She gave maybe five blocks.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I think of Eliah Edwards on
- 5:04Speaker 1: the perimeter, the way she defends. She has such quick hands.
- 5:08Speaker 1: She may be deceivingly quick. But this young this young
- 5:11Speaker 1: lady has shown me, shown us a lot of good
- 5:13Speaker 1: things so far.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Well, there's a there's a lot to her game.
- 5:20Speaker 3: You know, there's a uh, there's the defensive part on
- 5:24Speaker 3: the perimeter. There's the rebounding, there's the block shots on
- 5:30Speaker 3: the defensive end. You know, there's the pushing the ball
- 5:34Speaker 3: that transitions sometimes there's uh.
- 5:38Speaker 2: You know, her ability to pass and see the floor
- 5:41Speaker 2: is just spectacular for a big kid. Uh.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And she gets a lot of open shots, and she'll
- 5:51Speaker 3: continue to get those and those.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Are going to start going in.
- 5:54Speaker 3: And when that starts to happen, there's there's really not
- 5:59Speaker 3: much that that you could do because she just has
- 6:06Speaker 3: so many different ways to impact the game, and she's
- 6:12Speaker 3: only played three games, you know, in her career, so.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It should be it's gonna be fun to watch her.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Is there a part of her game? I mean, we've
- 6:21Speaker 1: only seen her for three games, and maybe if you're
- 6:23Speaker 1: lucky to go to a little bit of practice, but
- 6:24Speaker 1: you see her every day. Is there a deceptive part
- 6:28Speaker 1: of her game that doesn't get enough attention?
- 6:36Speaker 2: I would say the subtle ways that she.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Keeps the ball alive sometimes when she can't get the rebound.
- 6:46Speaker 2: A.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Catch that she'll make that someone else won't make, you know,
- 6:57Speaker 3: just little.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Things to save.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Your you know, your possession and you know, take a
- 7:04Speaker 3: possession that's going sideways that make it go right. So, yeah,
- 7:08Speaker 3: there's a lot of subtleties to her game. And then
- 7:10Speaker 3: obviously there's a lot of things that jump right out
- 7:13Speaker 3: at you.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, she made a great catch against USF and then
- 7:16Speaker 1: the tip where KK actually got the steal and then
- 7:19Speaker 1: Sarah went for the layup. Yeah, little things like that.
- 7:22Speaker 1: They all add up more with Gino on the Yukon
- 7:24Speaker 1: Women's Basketball Coach the Show here Onlearfield. When we continue
- 7:27Speaker 1: here in just a moment, stay with us
