- 0:05Okay, Hi, this is pauls Acle's Good News broadcast, Good News Planet
- 0:08and Pause the World for Peace. Actually, you started the Nature or A
- 0:11series on PBS, and I love this nature stuff with how We just did
- 0:16a show on ecology on Earth Day in Times Square in six hour live broadcasts.
- 0:22So now I've been here before and I'm here with Noel done, Noel,
- 0:26how are you? And I've been here and I had nice conversations with
- 0:32the owls and other animals and they taught me a lot because they're smart.
- 0:35Right, So tell us about your involvement here please. I'm the director of
- 0:40development, but I've only been doing that for now a little over a year.
- 0:46I started with Wildlife Rescue a while back doing wildlife we had out of
- 0:51my home. Wow. And then I got hired at the rescue center to
- 0:55work in the hospital with the animals. Wow. But I do have some
- 0:58fundraising backgrounds good. Our previous director of development left. I kind of slid
- 1:03into that position. So I've been doing this for a year. This is
- 1:07my second to get wild and people are getting wild. Yeah, I'm just
- 1:11doing Everyone enjoys and bids on our great auction items and every dollar goes to
- 1:18support our rescue center. So tell us about the rescue center. Where is
- 1:21it. It is in Hampton Base and it's been UM it's been in operation
- 1:26for twenty three years and was founded by Jinny Fratty and Jim Hunter, who
- 1:30wobe Jim Hunter is actually going to be honored tonight. And so yeah,
- 1:38it's been taking an animals injured, wildlife, jess wildlife, you know,
- 1:42domestic animals, UM for twenty three years. Wildlife. Wow. Wow,
- 1:47you started in your own home. Everybody who's happy about that? Oh?
- 1:51Oh yeah, so I still do wildlife you have in my home and UM.
- 1:56In fact, my daughter just moved out is in Illinois and her room
- 2:00now it's full of squirrels. I'm just talking about squirrels today. You convert
- 2:04their kids room to an office. I converted it into a squirrel room.
- 2:07So squirrels are like one of the few animals that somehow have made it right
- 2:15for everything. And they're very fast. They're very fast. But I know
- 2:20this is a vector of development. You need to speak with the people and
- 2:23I don't want to take up much of your time, and thank you.
- 2:27What is the website and how can people support you? Um? You can
- 2:31donate directly on our website. It's Wildlife Rescue Center dot org. Keep it
- 2:38very simple, and you can also follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Ah,
- 2:43all right, what is Facebook Live? Thanks so much? Have you?
- 2:46I'm crazy. If you let in nanty five for service and devotion,
- 2:53you would think that I would deserve their promotion along to move ahead. But
- 3:01the boss wont seem to let me. I swear sometimes that man is out
- 3:07to get me. Well, they lent to dream just to watch them shatter.
- 3:16You're just to step on the boss man's lighter. But you got dreams
- 3:21he'll never take away. We're in the same boat with a lot of your
- 3:27friends, waiting for the day the ship or come in. But the tide's
- 3:30gonna turn and it's all gonna roll you away, working nine two five water
- 3:38away to make a living therely get in by. It's all taking and no

- 4:08care what they call it. Any spend your life butting money and he's wanding
- 4:15nine two five, just working, working, working nine two five. They

- 4:36like naschool. Wow, I got to appreciate you. All right, I'm
- 4:46recording. I'm broadcasting, wife. Oh, did you want to say something?
- 4:49I love him? Ahead? Who's that? What's this meal? Next?
- 4:57Kalala? But it's a great one now. And her nickname breathing is
- 5:02Beef. And she we've had her said she was a baby, she was
- 5:05two days old. She fell out of a nest and she from both her
- 5:11wings in her pelvis. But she's fully flighted down and she's a little princess
- 5:16and she's a very happy, good life. Right, and she's she's an
- 5:20owl. She's a great corn owl, great great corn corn. She are
- 5:27in ow. You know what to grow her? A great corn owl?
- 5:31The history of that or whatever corn or somehow a great horned owl a corn
- 5:38Okay, well you would think that these are horns, but they're actually not
- 5:42horn. We are messing the swallow. But you know, now people remember
- 5:46it better than the obviously or horns. Great, Oh, because those Yeah,
- 5:53it makes sense. Yeah, well have a have a nice say there.
- 5:57You know they're all around this area because that right, yeah, oh
- 6:00my god, that's sorry. That's a beautiful bo fantastic all right, I
- 6:06think the gentleman watching U great horns? That's your girlfriend? Yes, all
- 6:12right, well sounds good to me. Okay, Hi, how are you?
- 6:21Can I get to some here? Tell me a little bit about who
- 6:27you're hanging out with you? Yeah, all right, yeah, we're live.
- 6:36I actually did it. H So this is Poe again, and uh
- 6:41I'm here. What your name is Chris Hunter? And yours Lindsay Hunter?
- 6:45Lindsay Hunter? Are these Hunters? Hunter? Girl? How does you mind
- 6:48a face you want? No? Yes? No, okay, all right,
- 6:54Oh you're got Except for those countries that don't allow Facebook can watch us.
- 7:00And it's amazing because I'm in making TV show fifty years and we'd have
- 7:03to bring trucks and trucks and satellite dissues and off the chart and spend one
- 7:10hundred thousand dollars to shoot this. I went back a life. I look
- 7:15at that. I taught my jaws oking. So now I heard something very
- 7:18nice that your dad was part of starting this organization to give me some background,
- 7:24and I said, I sent a prayer after your dad. Yeah.
- 7:29He and Jennie Freddie worked together in the county and they carpools and they would
- 7:33stop and help wild animals and there was no place really to help rehabilitate them.
- 7:39So they started the Genie's House and her husband audience, and with their
- 7:44connections with the county, they got involved in months Pond and Hampton Bees and
- 7:47they left them open up the first wildlife center on the island and it started
- 7:51one or twenty five years ago. And here we are today, and he'd
- 7:56be very proud of what's coriminating to Yeah, I'm sure he would, but
- 7:59let's make sure we have the whole family here this time, because we had
- 8:03a temporary malfunction in our service here. So and we're back. We're back.
- 8:11When I was younger, my dad brought who pets all the time,
- 8:15cats from the dog. We had a pet. He brought home the dog
- 8:18because someone was gonna put it down because it had a genetically neck in the
- 8:20eye. But he was always passionate about animals. Team hunted when he was
- 8:26younger because my grandfather loved it. But he never shot anything. He would
- 8:30walk in the woods and just watch the deer and the watch the animals,
- 8:33and you know he's passed it onto all of us, bros. All right,
- 8:37are you do you mind saying something good? This one? Animal lover?
- 8:43Animal love love animals, Like like, I don't know, do you
- 8:56have it? Yeah? Do you have a dog? A bird? What
- 9:03kind of bird? You have? A karake I need? Parakey talks to
- 9:07you. Baas I'm talking talk. He comes out of the cage all the
- 9:15time. And even when I'm as sleep, he like flies on the right.
- 9:18I keep his cage open so he can like fly around. It comes
- 9:22over to you. Yeah, you have to like put your and he like
- 9:26the rest on it. Yeah is that right? She rubs underneath his little
- 9:33neck and you know he d Yeah. Your name is Katherin Hi Katherine,
- 9:41and your name is Alexandra hi axandraw. So what is it about animal?
- 9:45You like animals? Also? I do? So my favorite animal I love
- 9:48turtles. Um so I feel like a lot of it did stem from my
- 9:54grandfather. Um. I don't know. They always just resonated with me,
- 9:58Like even today I saved the turtle he was crossing the street and yeah,
- 10:01he was writing in front. I'll tell you guys, he was right in
- 10:03front of our driveway and teen was going in one direction. And that's what
- 10:07they tell you is you're supposed to put it. Actually, Grandpa taught us
- 10:11that that if he's going in one direction, that's where you put him.
- 10:13You put him where he's crossing the street, not back to where he came
- 10:16from. So, um, yeah, I see him today. I just
- 10:20love turtles. They're like everything. Had my turtle ring on, I might
- 10:24usually had my turtle necklace samba to change it out today. Heard this reason,
- 10:28but yeah, that's like my thing. That's a nice, very interesting.
- 10:31I want to repeat that because it was so powerful that comment about if
- 10:35you found an animal in this situation, in a turtle, to bring it
- 10:41to where they're where they're going. You know, they're they're visiting somewhere.
- 10:45Yeah, and that's true. And it's also true all I had this too
- 10:48because it's very important too, especially living out in this way a rip current.
- 10:52I just learned that if you're in a rip current, you know,
- 10:54and it's pulling, you go with it. Yes, yeah, that it
- 11:00was news to me. I'm Eric, Hi, Eric, how are you
- 11:05all right? Good, Eric, what's your animal life? Well, I
- 11:09love nature like I pretty much. I like live at the beach, like
- 11:13I grew up in the beach. Um. I don't know. I go.
- 11:18I go fishing all the time. I go by by myself with my
- 11:22friends. Oh yeah, let me go. We went like it was probably
- 11:26like twenty miles out. It look like an hour to get out there.
- 11:30But it was cool and we didn't even catch anything. But you saw the
- 11:33whales jumping out of the water. The dolphins would ride right up next to
- 11:35the boat. I don't know. Pati is just amazing. Yeah, he's
- 11:39going outside and just looking around and I don't know, you can't be there.
- 11:43It's nothing like it. I agree with you. I agree. I
- 11:46love the woods and the nature. This is all good. Any other thought
- 11:50you'd like to share with us. I mean, it's very kind your parents,
- 11:54your father is looking nice here for you. It's nice and honoring here
- 12:00today, and you're very proud of what this has grown into from, you
- 12:03know, stopping and helping an animal on the side of the rulings when they
- 12:07were saying they get ten thousand goals a year and they're able to help,
- 12:11Yeah, they were like he loved the number series where they went into schools
- 12:16and two kids and he started that. Wow, absolutely love that. They
- 12:22loved that it was expanding. Ye I am, I must start with you,
- 12:26because Megan, that's how it started. You were such a you're such
- 12:30a good soul and such a concerned friend about an organization and you introduced me
- 12:37here. Why'd you do that? Since seriously you're a good soul? That's
- 12:46what is it? That? Evelyn Alexander is a fantastic work. All right?
- 12:54And you're here and I'm here and I love a volunteer for them,
- 12:58volunteer transporter okay, and they taken orphaned injured Wildlight all over the east end
- 13:05of Long Islands. Okay, Hampton's North Fork. Really important. We're all
- 13:11here today, don't You're not good? Meg? I'm not spontaneously contrition on
- 13:18the run and I make thousands of My name is mar Platts, and I
- 13:28am here tonight to support Evelyn Alexander Wild Lights. I love the work they
- 13:33do. Anytime I see your bone or an animal in distress, I immediately
- 13:37call Evelyn Alexander and they have a team of volunteers that respond. So I
- 13:41came here tonight because I'd like to get more involved with the organization my own
- 13:48rescue, and I do believe that rescues should work together because we're all sharing
- 13:52the mission of saving lives. And so I have my own event coming up
- 13:58or No Dog second line. We are a global organization and we rescue dogs
- 14:03from the most and get your back up perfectly, I think I started well,
- 14:09I am starting it like right now, and I don't edit, and
- 14:11we just kind of like, you know, see we have a bad,
- 14:15semi difficult reception here, but oh I could not move the camera all right,
- 14:20So we were right at a point where you were finding dogs in all
- 14:26different places. It's a national organization. Congratulations, And so when did you
- 14:31start your involvement with it? And actually how do people involve themselves with what
- 14:37you're doing? So I became involved with No Dogs Left Behind when I saw
- 14:41a beautiful labrador on news Swell Dog Day Friday that was in need of a
- 14:46rescue, and so I adopted that dog. And then the person who rescued
- 14:52that dog contacted me and said he wanted to meet me. Then get him,
- 14:56you know, make sure the dog was adjusting well to the new life.
- 15:00And so I met him and I found out the organization was fairly new.
- 15:03We're only we've only been around six years, and I said, I
- 15:05was love to help you spread awareness around the Hamptons. So that became my
- 15:11mission, helping to spread awareness. I adopted a second dog from No Dogs
- 15:16Up Behind, which is my dog's sister, so I now have two beautiful
- 15:20goldens from No Dog s uff Behind. And I started recruiting people around the
- 15:26village. And my amazing friend Myra Is has become a huge part of No
- 15:35Dogs Up Behind and recently adopted a dog from Ukraine. So we are friends
- 15:41and rescue and we are holding an amazing event the end of July, July
- 15:46twenty ninth to be exact, in sag Harbor. It's at the Breakwater Yacht
- 15:50Club. Yeah, so fantastic. Every dollar that we raise goes to the
- 15:58rescue you of of our dogs, and we have a brand new sheltering upstate,
- 16:04so we're raising money for that. Where's that New York, New York
- 16:08where we're hants in New York? Can? Yes? Where's that? All
- 16:15right? A lot of hills, all right, that's got Yeah, that's
- 16:19a beautiful thing. So tell me about anything else you want to share about
- 16:23the event. Your website. What's your website? Well, we have plenty
- 16:27of dogs up for adoption. If you cannot adopt, please foster. Um.
- 16:33We're on ww dot No Dog stuff behind dot com. Just look under
- 16:37survivors and you'll you'll view the dogs up for adoption. H all right,
- 16:44thanks so much. And the website. You have a website. How people
- 16:45know about you? It's ww dot No Dogs up behind dot com? One
- 16:51more times www dot No Dogs left behind. If you don't say things three
- 16:56times, no dogs left behind, no great. I will say a hundred
- 17:00times. We need to get these dogs adopted, whatever it takes in advertising
- 17:06and marketing, If you don't say something three times, people don't leave every
- 17:08remember. Okay, that's bottom line stuff, Ukraine. Jeffrey Barry, the
- 17:17founder of No Ducks Left Behind, was rescuing dogs that were stranded and left
- 17:21behind during the war and he found a little dog terrier mix chained up to
- 17:26a fence and he asked somebody would please adopt him? So I said I
- 17:30would. I'm on the board of No DUTs Left Behind and a volunteer,
- 17:33and he would put the dog he named you, and he put him in
- 17:37a shelter, and then he went back in December and rescued him and brought
- 17:40him back to New York's. Congratulations, thank you very much, and thank
- 17:48you for bringing us over here and meeting some wonderful people. Thank you so
- 17:53nice to meet
