- 0:00Speaker 1: Ran across this today to Mario Davis gave an interview
- 0:05Speaker 1: with Rich Somini of ESPN New York. I should say
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Jets reporter at ESPN dot com, and Davis is
- 0:14Speaker 1: heading into his fifteenth NFL season. You know how I
- 0:19Speaker 1: feel about this. I am. I'm devastated that the Man
- 0:25Speaker 1: of God is no longer a New Orleans Saint on
- 0:28Speaker 1: a personal level because I'm a giant fan of his,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and I also think it was a very bad roster
- 0:37Speaker 1: decision that the Saints made. Now time may prove me
- 0:43Speaker 1: to be wrong and the Saints right in letting to
- 0:48Speaker 1: Mario Walk in free agency, but we know what it
- 0:51Speaker 1: was to Mario got a multi year deal with guaranteed
- 0:54Speaker 1: money from the Jets. The Saints were not willing to
- 0:57Speaker 1: give a thirty seven year old linebacker a multi year
- 1:01Speaker 1: deal with that guarantees. It's the it's the old Seahn
- 1:04Speaker 1: Payton axiom. You'd rather pay, You'd rather get rid of
- 1:11Speaker 1: a player a year too early than a year too late.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And that's the decision they made. So they let to
- 1:17Speaker 1: Mario Davis walk and they brought in Ky Nellis. But
- 1:21Speaker 1: I saw this today in this interview to Mario Davis
- 1:24Speaker 1: did with Rich Simony of ESPN, where de Mario told
- 1:29Speaker 1: Rich Simoni he spends nearly one million dollars a year
- 1:36Speaker 1: keeping himself fit for the riggers of the NFL. Quote
- 1:46Speaker 1: I go from the field to the table, from the
- 1:48Speaker 1: table to the field. What I mean by that is
- 1:50Speaker 1: when I'm not training, I'm recovering. When I'm not recovering,
- 1:53Speaker 1: i'm training. Davis went on, quote, my body is my company,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and the brain and that comes from playing the game
- 2:02Speaker 1: is my company. If I don't reinvest in the engine
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the company and the brand of the company, I
- 2:09Speaker 1: just don't think that's wise. I just try to be
- 2:12Speaker 1: a good steward of what's been given. You wont know
- 2:17Speaker 1: why the Mario Davis has not regressed at thirty seven.
- 2:25Speaker 1: That's why why is the Mario Davis at thirty seven
- 2:33Speaker 1: able to do what most NFL players and most NFL
- 2:37Speaker 1: linebackers are not able to do. Because to Mario Davis
- 2:42Speaker 1: does what most NFL players and most NFL linebackers don't do,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and that's invest a million dollars a year into his body.
- 2:54Speaker 1: The list that Davis gave so many of what he
- 2:58Speaker 1: spends on acupuncture radio frequency, energy stimulation, naturopathic medicine, chiropractic hare,
- 3:09Speaker 1: muscle activation, cupping, scraping, dry needling therapy, red light therapy,
- 3:13Speaker 1: fascist stretching, hot and cold tubs, EPSOM, salt bats, active
- 3:16Speaker 1: release therapy. And he has a personal chef who makes
- 3:19Speaker 1: him a high protein diet with red meat and foods
- 3:22Speaker 1: that limit inflammation. Why is the Mario Davis at thirty
- 3:26Speaker 1: seven able to play like he's twenty seven because biologically
- 3:32Speaker 1: functionally he is, because he takes care of himself in
- 3:37Speaker 1: a maniacal way. This only for me further underscores the
- 3:45Speaker 1: mistake that New Orleans made and letting the Mario Davis walk.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And yes, my hand is in the air. I am
- 3:50Speaker 1: insanely biased, y'all. I sat there on radio row and
- 3:53Speaker 1: this man gave me two arm sleeves like that, this
- 3:57Speaker 1: one right here, this white and gold arm sleeve that
- 3:59Speaker 1: is where and this can you go full screen on
- 4:01Speaker 1: that one, Cassie, This arms leave right here that he's
- 4:03Speaker 1: watching that he's wearing that he gave me one of
- 4:05Speaker 1: them that Super Bowl, and he gave me a Man
- 4:07Speaker 1: of God armsleep. So I'm a fan, right, I'm telling
- 4:10Speaker 1: you candidly like I'm a fan, but I'm also not
- 4:14Speaker 1: blind to Mario Davis, the last two years of his
- 4:17Speaker 1: career has had the two most productive years of his
- 4:22Speaker 1: NFL career. Last year, he had one hundred and forty
- 4:25Speaker 1: three tackles, the most in his career. In twenty twenty four,
- 4:29Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty six tackles, the second most in
- 4:32Speaker 1: his career. In fourteen NFL seasons, he has missed one game.
- 4:37Speaker 1: He has missed one game in fourteen NFL seasons. I,
- 4:42Speaker 1: for the life of me, cannot understand why the New
- 4:47Speaker 1: Orleans Saints let him walk. I know their logic, but
- 4:50Speaker 1: sometimes you have to be able to look at so like,
- 4:55Speaker 1: take your remove yours. It's like the analytics world baseball.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Sometimes the analytics say steal on the next pitch, or
- 5:06Speaker 1: throw a breaking ball in this count. But if you're
- 5:09Speaker 1: watching the game, the breaking ball probably isn't the best pitch.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You should probably go fastball away or jam him on
- 5:15Speaker 1: the hands. Right, this feels like one of those where,
- 5:20Speaker 1: without context, you look at a thirty seven year old
- 5:23Speaker 1: linebacker and you go, man, you can pay that guy
- 5:25Speaker 1: a multi year contract with that much guaranteed money. Nah,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you can't do that. But then you actually look at
- 5:30Speaker 1: the nuance of this situation and you go, why wouldn't you. Now,
- 5:35Speaker 1: my hope is that Kate Nellis is awesome in coming
- 5:39Speaker 1: back to New Orleans. And Kate Nellis when you know
- 5:43Speaker 1: when he got re signed by the Saints. Of course
- 5:46Speaker 1: he was drafted by the saying signs a phe agent
- 5:47Speaker 1: with the Land and now is coming back. But Kate
- 5:49Speaker 1: Ellis was asked about replacing to Mario Davis, it'd be
- 5:52Speaker 1: very daunting.
- 5:53Speaker 2: He's a special player, special man, special leader.
- 5:56Speaker 1: That's not what it is.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I'm coming here to be Kate Ellis and being media
- 5:59Speaker 2: got people around me, great team meets, great coaches, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: the leadership will be dispersed about the team because Tomorrio's
- 6:05Speaker 2: got a special voice, and uh, that's that's not what
- 6:08Speaker 2: I'm here for.
- 6:09Speaker 1: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I think Kate Nellis could be very good, But Caden
- 6:13Speaker 1: and Ellis is not going to be to Mario Davis,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and they're going to try to replace the Mario Davis
- 6:16Speaker 1: and all things he brought with a multitude of people,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and I think that is easier said than done. Now
- 6:23Speaker 1: Ellis has had three straight hundred tackle seasons. It was
- 6:26Speaker 1: one twenty two and twenty three, then one fifty one,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and then this past year one oh seven UH seventeen
- 6:32Speaker 1: games in all the seasons, so he has been a
- 6:35Speaker 1: durable player. He's played in all seventeen games each of
- 6:37Speaker 1: the last four years during his UH his three seasons
- 6:40Speaker 1: in Atlanta as last season in New Orleans. So Kate
- 6:43Speaker 1: Nellis has been durable, which is is great to see,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but he's got a steep hill to climb. You know.
- 6:50Speaker 1: When Kellen Moore after de Mario Davis left, Kellen Moore
- 6:53Speaker 1: was asked if it was age, if it was to
- 6:56Speaker 1: Mario Davis's age, if that factored into the decision to
- 6:59Speaker 1: let them walk.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I don't want to go into like all the negotiating
- 7:02Speaker 2: aspects of these things, just because it's not fair to anyone.
- 7:05Speaker 2: But yeah, obviously we know we love to Mario, you know.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And so you know, this thing worked out, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: with with Kayden having the opportunity to come here, and
- 7:13Speaker 2: I'm really excited about it.
- 7:15Speaker 1: We'll see. All I gotta say is you better be right.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I get I get playing hardball with Cam Jordan because
- 7:30Speaker 1: he's a declining player last year, playing fifty percent of
- 7:35Speaker 1: the defensive snaps and having double digit sacks as an
- 7:37Speaker 1: outlier each of the previous three seasons. He was regressing.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And he's called out Todd Grantham and maybe that was it.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Maybe it's a change of the coaching staff helped in
- 7:46Speaker 1: Staley's defense. I hope that's the case. I hope it is.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Okam Goes says, another double digit sack season. I'm banking
- 7:52Speaker 1: on it. No, I'm not with to Mario Davis. It
- 7:55Speaker 1: doesn't matter who the coach is, who the defensive coordinator is.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Where he's been, he's been a durable, available, productive player,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and he's a great leader. So and he spends a
- 8:05Speaker 1: million dollars a year on his body. That's why you
- 8:07Speaker 1: have confidence he's going to stay performing at a high level.
- 8:09Speaker 2: So m
