- 0:08Speaker 1: And I invited you here. I thought I made myself
- 0:14Speaker 1: perfectly clear. When you're a guest to my home, you
- 0:21Speaker 1: gotta come to me empty. And I said, no, guests,
- 0:27Speaker 1: your own presences presence enough. And I already had too
- 0:33Speaker 1: much stuff.
- 0:35Speaker 2: So how do you dare to surbey me?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Welcome to I said, no. Gift temperature Wineger. We're here
- 0:55Speaker 3: in the studio, very early recording. I think maybe the
- 0:58Speaker 3: earliest recording of this podcast ever ten thirty Well it's
- 1:02Speaker 3: ten forty three, but that's seventeen minutes before our usual
- 1:06Speaker 3: early type of recording. So I'm in a mood. I'm
- 1:09Speaker 3: in a real mood. What's going on? Let's see, last
- 1:15Speaker 3: night I saw the new Frankenstein movie, and as you
- 1:20Speaker 3: might assume, the monster does go down a water slide,
- 1:23Speaker 3: you get to see the Frankenstein's monster go down a
- 1:27Speaker 3: water slide. I think we need to land on a
- 1:28Speaker 3: name for Frankenstein's Monster. I don't know there's enough, it's
- 1:32Speaker 3: enough with all the confusion. What else? I guess we're
- 1:36Speaker 3: kind of in the holidays now, so I hope you're
- 1:38Speaker 3: enjoying yourself. If you're the sort of person who enjoys themselves.
- 1:43Speaker 3: What else. I mean, speaking of big events, I spent
- 1:47Speaker 3: a good deal of the weekend dry heaving. I unfortunately,
- 1:52Speaker 3: our poor little Bonnie got sick, and I assume a
- 1:56Speaker 3: lot of people, you know, there's a chance you may
- 1:58Speaker 3: be eating right now, but there's only a few things
- 2:00Speaker 3: a sick dog can do. And she went all out
- 2:04Speaker 3: at three am. The level of dry heaving I was
- 2:07Speaker 3: doing was Olympic level. I dry heaved myself into another century.
- 2:11Speaker 3: But that's all in the past, and hopefully we'll leave
- 2:14Speaker 3: it in the past. And I think that's let's see,
- 2:18Speaker 3: document wise, Do I have any business, Let's see. No,
- 2:21Speaker 3: we have the Patreon. Just a reminder that there's the Patreon,
- 2:25Speaker 3: which you go to patreon dot com slash I said,
- 2:27Speaker 3: no gifts. I mean, just it's an ocean of content
- 2:32Speaker 3: over there. I've become a real producer of content. Bonus
- 2:36Speaker 3: episodes of the show, episodes of me recapping a variety
- 2:41Speaker 3: of reality televisions, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Secret
- 2:46Speaker 3: lives of Mormon wives. I do a little, you know,
- 2:49Speaker 3: I glance at Dancing with the Stars in order to
- 2:51Speaker 3: keep up with Whitney Levitt. But by the time this
- 2:53Speaker 3: comes out, that's probably over And I just have to say,
- 2:55Speaker 3: Whitney Levitt, Lever or hater what a dancer. The woman
- 3:00Speaker 3: can move. She's a star. They need to just put
- 3:04Speaker 3: her on that show. I had never seen the show before,
- 3:06Speaker 3: but I assume she's the best dancer they've ever had.
- 3:09Speaker 3: But go to patreon dot com slash I said no
- 3:11Speaker 3: gifts today. We just released the episode with my mom.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I mean, she's speaking of stars. Debbie Wineger can move.
- 3:19Speaker 3: As a podcast guest, she's really got it. Okay, I
- 3:22Speaker 3: think we've covered all of the business I've I mean,
- 3:26Speaker 3: I'm you know, I've sleep deprivation and coffee and ten
- 3:30Speaker 3: thirty record puts me in a new place. But I
- 3:32Speaker 3: think we should get into it. I love today's guest.
- 3:35Speaker 3: She's just fantastic. It's Amy Silverberg. Amy, welcome to I
- 3:38Speaker 3: said no gifts.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Thank you for having me. I'm so sorry about the heaving.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Oh when was the last time you were dry heaving?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well, I had bad chicken. Oh no, on a barbecue
- 3:50Speaker 2: chicken pizza. Oh, I was heaving. I was eaving all right.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Wow, it's that's kind of a hard for them to
- 3:57Speaker 3: get the raw chicken on the pizza.
- 3:59Speaker 2: What was tough to. It was a pizza party and
- 4:02Speaker 2: I was the only one to have ventured into that
- 4:04Speaker 2: particular pizza. So he was texting everybody the next day.
- 4:07Speaker 2: It was like a girl's birthday. It was like all
- 4:08Speaker 2: girl pizza party, right, And I was like, is anyone driving?
- 4:12Speaker 2: I didn't say driving. I was like, is anyone losing it?
- 4:15Speaker 3: You know?
- 4:16Speaker 2: And Everyone's like no, no, like which, And then I
- 4:18Speaker 2: thought to myself, I'm the only one who experimented with
- 4:21Speaker 2: the barbecue chicken.
- 4:22Speaker 3: The chicken on a barbecue chicken pizza should be cooked
- 4:25Speaker 3: before the pizza, then with the pizza.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And I don't know, maybe it had sat out for
- 4:29Speaker 2: too long, but I haven't had barbecue chicken pizza since then.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I might never.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Again before that experience. How did you feel about barbecue chicken?
- 4:38Speaker 3: Leave it? I can leave.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It's really kind of weird that I went for it
- 4:41Speaker 2: that day, because I feel like people are either they
- 4:43Speaker 2: absolutely hate or love a barbecue chicken pizza.
- 4:46Speaker 3: It's very divisive.
- 4:47Speaker 2: One other thing I didn't lead with is it was
- 4:49Speaker 2: my pizza party.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You said it was.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I don't know why, my pizza party birthday with all girls.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Wow, so you ordered the girls and the girl was me.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I don't know why I to separate myself.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I thought maybe that was the day you became a woman.
- 5:06Speaker 2: That's the day I became a woman.
- 5:07Speaker 3: You left. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So you ordered that pizza
- 5:12Speaker 3: for your for the party.
- 5:13Speaker 2: A friend did it, like ordered all the different pizza,
- 5:17Speaker 2: you know. I think that's why I sort of tried
- 5:19Speaker 2: to separate myself. It wasn't my pizza ordering. I don't
- 5:21Speaker 2: want anybody in the audience who wants to invite me
- 5:24Speaker 2: to a pizza party. I want them to know they
- 5:26Speaker 2: can trust me.
- 5:27Speaker 3: You're not going to give it away.
- 5:28Speaker 2: No, I'm not going to do anything weird.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Can you say where the pizza came from? We can
- 5:31Speaker 3: beep it out.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I don't know why. I know Culver City. A friend
- 5:35Speaker 2: ordered it. She said it was a good pizza. It
- 5:37Speaker 2: was also expensive.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Oh boy, wow, I'd like to put that place.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I'm putting all of Culver City on notice, the whole.
- 5:44Speaker 3: City until we narrow it down to this pizza parlor.
- 5:47Speaker 3: The whole city is should beware poison Central take pizza.
- 5:53Speaker 3: That's a long way to travel a pizza from Culver
- 5:56Speaker 3: City to wherever.
- 5:57Speaker 2: We did it in Culver City.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Oh you did it?
- 6:00Speaker 2: You know a friend lives in Clover City. I don't
- 6:03Speaker 2: have a big enough apartment. Let's have the pizza party
- 6:06Speaker 2: in Clover City. I feel that already I've established myself
- 6:09Speaker 2: as an unreliable narrator, and the whole crowd.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Is like, what what can we trust for this one?
- 6:14Speaker 2: Ten thirty is early to get to Burbank's.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Ten thirty is a hard time to have a conversation.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Let's be honest.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Everybody at home is like, fuck you, guys, I'm up
- 6:22Speaker 2: at work at eight am.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Well, even if I'm up at six am. From six
- 6:27Speaker 3: until eleven am, I'm not someone that should be approached.
- 6:29Speaker 2: What are you doing between six and eight am?
- 6:32Speaker 3: Disassociating, regretting my life, thinking, oh, I can't believe I
- 6:36Speaker 3: woke up at all, bickering with my boyfriend or telling
- 6:40Speaker 3: him to be quiet.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Are you a person who tries to like stay off
- 6:43Speaker 2: their phone in the morning?
- 6:45Speaker 3: A little bit? This is my morning. I wake up,
- 6:48Speaker 3: turn off the alarm, and now I turn off the
- 6:49Speaker 3: white noise or the dark noise I think is what
- 6:51Speaker 3: it is?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Noise? And because you're a demon, I'm a demon. You're
- 6:55Speaker 2: listening to dark noise.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I turn that off, get my phone, get my coffee
- 7:01Speaker 3: and protein bar, and go into the backyard and read.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Once I'm done with my coffee, I go in and
- 7:06Speaker 3: get my phone okay, and then go back out and
- 7:09Speaker 3: then just start ruining.
- 7:10Speaker 2: My day okay, because that's a healthy way to start
- 7:12Speaker 2: the day, I feel. But it doesn't prevent you from
- 7:15Speaker 2: So it doesn't prevent you from coming in and ruining things.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Right if I have if the phone is next to
- 7:22Speaker 3: my book that I'm just not reading the book.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you got to leave. I got one
- 7:27Speaker 2: of those apps that makes it hard to get on
- 7:28Speaker 2: social media. You have to. It's called screen Zen okay,
- 7:32Speaker 2: is the one that I'm using, and you have to
- 7:34Speaker 2: You're only allowed three times on ten minutes at a time, okay,
- 7:38Speaker 2: and then you have to wait a full minute for
- 7:40Speaker 2: it to let you on. But as it's I'm like, well,
- 7:43Speaker 2: just annoying when I have to wait them of course. Yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 2: but it has prevented me from like mindlessly sort of
- 7:50Speaker 2: scrolling because if I go to mindlessly scroll and then
- 7:53Speaker 2: I see that I have to wait a full minute,
- 7:55Speaker 2: I'm like fuck.
- 7:55Speaker 3: This, right, it just like snaps you out of it.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but is there's no.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Work around, I feel like I would get around the worker.
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm so bad at technology. If there is, I don't know.
- 8:05Speaker 3: So for a computer whiz like myself, I mean I.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Should be named Debbie or Nancy. Nancy is my mom's name,
- 8:11Speaker 2: Linda Kathy. I'm like I have a boomer level of technology.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like any of those things I would
- 8:19Speaker 3: just it has to physically be locked away from me,
- 8:22Speaker 3: which is unfortunate. How much longer do you think we're
- 8:24Speaker 3: all going to be trapped? And like, at some point
- 8:27Speaker 3: there has to be a breaking point when we start
- 8:30Speaker 3: leaving at least Instagram for another new thing. You know.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I'm teaching this semester, so I'm with gen Z and
- 8:35Speaker 2: how are they doing? And they are unwell but they're
- 8:41Speaker 2: kind of like funny, but yeah, they do they you
- 8:45Speaker 2: know how people talk about the gen Z stare and stuff. Yes,
- 8:48Speaker 2: they do have kind of like zombie eyes that I
- 8:50Speaker 2: think is from staring at their screen. Right, But I
- 8:55Speaker 2: also think everybody's been worried about the youth.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Since since the beginning of time.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I think they are like chillin you know, they make
- 9:01Speaker 2: me laugh. They talk about their like boyfriends, ex boyfriends,
- 9:04Speaker 2: facetiming them. In creative writing, we spend forty five minutes
- 9:07Speaker 2: out of the hour talking about people's ex boyfriends, facetiming them.
- 9:11Speaker 2: That's what creative writing is all about.
- 9:13Speaker 3: That's the beginning of a story.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Exactly so. But otherwise they seem pretty normal.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, they're shy. They seem really shy, at least the
- 9:22Speaker 2: students in my class like people like but once they
- 9:25Speaker 2: start talking, then they but they seem to have a
- 9:28Speaker 2: little bit more like no one. They're no like class
- 9:32Speaker 2: clowns that are like constantly interest kind of chatting. I'm
- 9:35Speaker 2: like begging them to talk, you know, I'm telling them
- 9:38Speaker 2: I'll injure myself in front of them if they don't speak.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I feel I feel like shy is a good place
- 9:44Speaker 3: to start.
- 9:44Speaker 2: I don't mind it. Yeah, shy teen better than the opposite.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, an annoying teen. I forget it.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Come on, nineteen twenty twenty one. You know, they're in college.
- 9:53Speaker 3: They're shy, and it feels like gen Z is now
- 9:55Speaker 3: getting to you know, Jen Alpha's now they in charge.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't, I don't can't tell the distinct.
- 10:03Speaker 3: How old is the oldest Gen Alpha at this point?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Is that like a I'm turning to the booth.
- 10:08Speaker 3: How old is like fifteen eighteen? Where are we with
- 10:11Speaker 3: Gen Alpha at this point?
- 10:13Speaker 4: They're born between twenty ten and twenty twenty four.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Okay, fifteen years old.
- 10:19Speaker 2: So they're just they're not yeah, they're still in there.
- 10:22Speaker 2: They haven't gotten to me yet.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Right, They're not driving, They're not They're not a yeah yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 3: but they're the advertisers are starting to turn the gaze
- 10:32Speaker 3: towards Jen Alpha and where the rest of us are
- 10:35Speaker 3: just continually losing power and sliding towards death. Wow. I
- 10:42Speaker 3: was going to ask you how you start your mornings.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Oh, I try to do the thing where I stay
- 10:45Speaker 2: off my phone and I also try to read. I
- 10:47Speaker 2: gotta get a coffee. Like the moment you know, I'm
- 10:51Speaker 2: I'm like crawling out of my I can't do anything
- 10:53Speaker 2: without I'm so addicted to kaffee. Right, I get a
- 10:55Speaker 2: migraine if I don't have coffee.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Coffee, are you doing a whole pot in the morning.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I open a can of cold brew, a can that
- 11:03Speaker 2: I get from bulk from Costco. Okay, well, huge, I
- 11:08Speaker 2: got to show you it. Okay, I think I have
- 11:10Speaker 2: early onset dementia. I can't pull it. Absolutely, I can't
- 11:13Speaker 2: pull anything from my brain.
- 11:14Speaker 3: It's so scary when someone else something.
- 11:17Speaker 2: This is something I look at every day in order.
- 11:19Speaker 2: But it's one of those that's it was the highest
- 11:21Speaker 2: milligrams of caffeine. I could find choice like three hundred and.
- 11:27Speaker 3: That's a good one.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's yeah, yeah, And I drink it, and I
- 11:30Speaker 2: feel that I feel the same, but I at least
- 11:32Speaker 2: don't have I'm not getting like a splitting headache, right,
- 11:35Speaker 2: and then as I drink it, I try to read
- 11:37Speaker 2: a book.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Okay, I think that's nice. I think I make my
- 11:41Speaker 3: own cold brew, but I'm even that the idea of
- 11:45Speaker 3: just being able to open a can.
- 11:46Speaker 2: You make your own cold brew, that's like trad husband
- 11:49Speaker 2: of you.
- 11:50Speaker 3: I am you make it.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I don't even know what that entails or is that
- 11:53Speaker 2: just like pouring concentrated and.
- 11:55Speaker 3: You get this thing called a cold brew toddy, which
- 11:58Speaker 3: is a plastic like thing, and then you put the
- 12:02Speaker 3: coffee grounds and then water, then coffee grounds in water.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Then you let it sit for twenty four hours.
- 12:06Speaker 2: All very sexy. I feel to hear that you're making
- 12:09Speaker 2: and do you make it for your husband boyfriend?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I make the.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Whole ring and I can't remember which rain goes on.
- 12:20Speaker 3: That's a good day. I forget all the time.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I was like, I'm going to go for it. It's
- 12:23Speaker 2: my husband. I'm going the tickets.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Wife excuses me.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes.
- 12:30Speaker 3: You make the concentrate and then it sits in the
- 12:32Speaker 3: fridge and then you make it in the morning. But
- 12:34Speaker 3: I make it for.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Both of us because he can't complain never.
- 12:37Speaker 3: But I mean the sky complains non stop.
- 12:40Speaker 2: You're making him cold brew.
- 12:41Speaker 3: The amount of complaints it's ridiculous, none of them too much.
- 12:45Speaker 2: That's like if I buy my boyfriend dinner, I'm like,
- 12:48Speaker 2: then for the next two weeks, I'm like, remember when
- 12:50Speaker 2: I got you dinner. It's so annoying.
- 12:52Speaker 3: I'm like, shut them over the same thing.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And I'm getting him like two for one. It'll poil
- 12:55Speaker 2: loco And I'm like remember that, I'll how good it was?
- 13:00Speaker 3: You usually go out to dinner? Do you just split? No?
- 13:02Speaker 2: He always pays for me.
- 13:03Speaker 3: He always pays.
- 13:04Speaker 2: That's what's so crazy for me to be like, remember,
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think it's me being like, you know, the one time.
- 13:10Speaker 2: But we have really different schedules because he works a
- 13:13Speaker 2: normal job and I'm, you know, a kookie, right working
- 13:17Speaker 2: ten working ten various jobs. So I'm often bringing over
- 13:21Speaker 2: like taco ball at like ten thirty d. That's very nice,
- 13:24Speaker 2: and we don't live that kind of I have some
- 13:27Speaker 2: kookie beliefs, like what like religious. No, my kookie beliefs
- 13:31Speaker 2: are that I need a lot of privacy. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I just I've never lived with anyone, and I have
- 13:37Speaker 2: a great apartment that I love, right, But I don't
- 13:41Speaker 2: want to tell you how long we've been dating because
- 13:43Speaker 2: then it seems really creepy.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Though we don't live I don't think that that's creepy
- 13:46Speaker 3: at all. I think that that's very healthy, get.
- 13:47Speaker 2: On great, right, And he keeps moving closer to me,
- 13:50Speaker 2: so I'm hoping that eventually he'll just live next door.
- 13:53Speaker 3: He's slowly creeping up.
- 13:54Speaker 2: He's creeping up on me because I won't leave my apartment.
- 13:58Speaker 3: You know. Oh, I think that that's totally fine, and
- 14:00Speaker 3: especially I think in a big city where it's just
- 14:01Speaker 3: like hard to find a good apartment. I'm like, we
- 14:03Speaker 3: don't fight, you know, of course, how could you possibly
- 14:06Speaker 3: your time is more valuable when you're together.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yes, And and I feel like a lot of the
- 14:09Speaker 2: things that people fight about are like someone breathing.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Of course, you know, hearing the other person.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they don't. And I'm just like, listen, am I
- 14:19Speaker 2: in therapy. Yeah, shout out to doctor Barbara.
- 14:22Speaker 3: She's doctor Barbara. Reach out. Yeah.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Oh she calls in. She's like, I'd like to talk
- 14:27Speaker 2: more about Amy's issues. Listen. I grew up in a
- 14:30Speaker 2: house where, like, my dad was talking to me through
- 14:32Speaker 2: the bathroom door. Not a lot of private too much.
- 14:36Speaker 3: You can't talk to someone in there.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Larry's Larry's calling me ten times a day. You know,
- 14:41Speaker 2: he's on the toilet, He's calling me. His name's Larry.
- 14:44Speaker 2: So I'm just like, I need I got to live alone,
- 14:46Speaker 2: got a alone.
- 14:47Speaker 3: No, I totally understand that we've started. We sleep in
- 14:50Speaker 3: separate beds almost every night of the week.
- 14:51Speaker 2: See that's and that sounds good to me.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Oh it's lovely.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And then do you sorry? I'm sorry to bring this
- 14:57Speaker 2: up on the pod. Whose bed do you have sex in?
- 15:01Speaker 3: Oh that's a great question.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I'm okay, And that's fair enough. I thought i'd take
- 15:05Speaker 2: a stab, you know, just sometimes I got to take
- 15:09Speaker 2: a big swing, and if it's a strikeout, I don't mind.
- 15:13Speaker 2: That's that's part of doing stand up comedy. Sometimes you
- 15:17Speaker 2: get on stage and you whiff.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You know, you didn't whiff, you just didn't get an.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Get an answer. That's like my crowd work. I'm like,
- 15:23Speaker 2: so what bed do you guys? Fucking I hate when
- 15:28Speaker 2: comedians ask people in the crowd like vulgar questions.
- 15:33Speaker 3: What I was going to say about calling is do
- 15:35Speaker 3: you forget this when you call somebody on speaker and
- 15:37Speaker 3: they ask, am I on speaker? But people get really
- 15:41Speaker 3: sensitive about being on speaker phone.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Like what they're really asking is can someone here?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Can someone else hear me?
- 15:48Speaker 3: I feel like I get a lot of the time.
- 15:49Speaker 3: It's just like, why don't you have Why are you
- 15:51Speaker 3: using your like some of your strengths to hold the phone?
- 15:54Speaker 2: I think that's weird. It's like, what do they care?
- 15:57Speaker 3: You know, I'm doing you a big favorite just by
- 15:58Speaker 3: even talking.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I always assumed it was is someone else in the
- 16:02Speaker 2: room and can hear me? You know?
- 16:03Speaker 3: Right that person's paranoid? Yeah? Yeah, and I will let
- 16:06Speaker 3: somebody know if there's somebody else in the room in
- 16:08Speaker 3: the car.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I would hope I'm not just gonna blurt out right
- 16:12Speaker 2: something private like I blurt out on this podcast.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Are you a big phone person?
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a big talk to my girlfriends every time
- 16:21Speaker 2: I get in the I drive a lot, as many
- 16:23Speaker 2: LA people do. But I got a lot of jobs
- 16:25Speaker 2: on every side of the city, right, but I'm crossing.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I'm in the car. I feel for four hours a day.
- 16:31Speaker 2: And so every time I get in the car, I
- 16:33Speaker 2: call a friend and I listen to her problems.
- 16:35Speaker 3: And do you just do you schedule the call or
- 16:37Speaker 3: you just randomly call?
- 16:38Speaker 2: I just randomly call. And I got a lot of
- 16:40Speaker 2: girlfriends with problems, and you're a girl thirties in LA,
- 16:46Speaker 2: and I'm somebody who doesn't mind hearing them. I find
- 16:48Speaker 2: people's problems to be and they're always problems with as
- 16:52Speaker 2: many girls problems are women's. There are problems with no solutions.
- 16:58Speaker 3: So you're just kind of just listening, but you're not
- 17:01Speaker 3: offering solutions.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I mean, the solution is like we have to get
- 17:05Speaker 2: you to like see yourself as lovable.
- 17:11Speaker 3: And I also think people don't want to hear solutions,
- 17:14Speaker 3: And what.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Sort of solution is you need to see yourself as lovable.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Yeah, they know right, you know, so when it becomes advice,
- 17:21Speaker 3: the people tune that out.
- 17:22Speaker 2: They just want to Sometimes the solution is like we
- 17:26Speaker 2: got to you gotta get a job, but like there
- 17:27Speaker 2: are no one wants to hear that either, or they're
- 17:29Speaker 2: already trying to get a job.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Of course they're trying to get a job.
- 17:32Speaker 2: That's not helpful, right exactly. Or like they're sad about
- 17:36Speaker 2: a breakup, and what are you going to say to that.
- 17:38Speaker 2: You're just like, yeah, I'm sad too that you had
- 17:41Speaker 2: that happen.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And you have to be careful about talking about a
- 17:42Speaker 3: breakup because if you insult the X too much, then
- 17:45Speaker 3: they get back together. That becomes you can't be fully honest.
- 17:49Speaker 3: There was a minute when I was doing surprise phone calls,
- 17:51Speaker 3: and I've kind of shied away from that. I think
- 17:53Speaker 3: I need to get back into that.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Why did you start trying away?
- 17:56Speaker 3: I don't know. I think that during the pandemic it
- 17:58Speaker 3: became a thing that felt good to just give somebody
- 17:59Speaker 3: a phone call, and then we all got kind of
- 18:02Speaker 3: back into our lives as much as you possibly could.
- 18:04Speaker 3: And now it feels a little bit like, am I
- 18:06Speaker 3: scaring people?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Like it? And I was doing a lot of surprise
- 18:09Speaker 2: face times, which I think, Yeah, that I've stopped. Now
- 18:13Speaker 2: I'm only doing surprise phone call.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I would text before, and I don't really care
- 18:17Speaker 3: to see a friend's face. Yeah, I don't need to
- 18:20Speaker 3: FaceTime a friend. I will. Uh, maybe I should start
- 18:23Speaker 3: randomly calling people again.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I get into habits with certain people where I'm talking
- 18:28Speaker 2: to them constantly, and then I've like one of my
- 18:31Speaker 2: best friends lives in Australia and I don't call her
- 18:34Speaker 2: because I feel like when I call her, we need
- 18:36Speaker 2: a lot of time to catch up.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:37Speaker 2: The people I'm calling are people who I really know
- 18:39Speaker 2: what's going on in their lives minute to minute too much,
- 18:42Speaker 2: I know.
- 18:42Speaker 3: You know. I was just wondering about this, Like, what's
- 18:46Speaker 3: the longest amount of time you haven't spoken to somebody,
- 18:49Speaker 3: like to a good friend, to a good friend that
- 18:51Speaker 3: you feel like you could still give them a phone call.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Let's say you haven't spoken to somebody in two years?
- 18:56Speaker 3: Is it? Do you need to text first?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Two years? That's tough.
- 19:01Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever gone alarming to get a
- 19:03Speaker 3: phone call from somebody you haven't heard from in two years.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I feel like it's either like a person from like
- 19:08Speaker 2: high school that is coming out of the blue, you know, right,
- 19:12Speaker 2: or a person Yeah it would be alarming to me,
- 19:14Speaker 2: would it be alarming to you?
- 19:15Speaker 3: I'm trying to decide. I mean, like, let's say that
- 19:17Speaker 3: you're kind of in contact through social media, so you're
- 19:20Speaker 3: aware of each other.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, that's different.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:23Speaker 2: You know, I'm an optimist and I always think someone
- 19:25Speaker 2: is calling to get give me something.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Does that happen?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Well, even if it's just like a like you know,
- 19:32Speaker 2: like we need you to do a Q and A
- 19:35Speaker 2: for twucks.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Right right, I don't know.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That's what I'm always. I'm always I'm like a person
- 19:39Speaker 2: who answers unknown numbers, thinking that it's going to be
- 19:43Speaker 2: someone like, hey, we read a short story of yours.
- 19:45Speaker 2: We want to turn it into a movie.
- 19:47Speaker 3: I used to ground down for me, that's totally filed.
- 19:51Speaker 2: It's just like my dad finding new numbers to call
- 19:53Speaker 2: me from.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Like for some reason, I now just think it's either
- 19:57Speaker 3: scam or medical call. Yeah, urgent care.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Call, cold calls. I'm getting a lot of I thought
- 20:03Speaker 2: I have health insurance from a certain company and I
- 20:07Speaker 2: keep getting phone calls being like, this is your health insurance,
- 20:09Speaker 2: but it's a different company. I never know if it's
- 20:11Speaker 2: a scame.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Got to be very careful.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I probably don't have health insurance now. I'm probably like, accidentally.
- 20:17Speaker 3: You have to I think, what did they say? If
- 20:18Speaker 3: you think that, if it seems like they're calling you
- 20:21Speaker 3: don't answer, then you call them from a different phone number.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It seems too good to be true.
- 20:27Speaker 3: If it seems too good. I know something about if
- 20:29Speaker 3: it seems too good to be true, if.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Someone's calling me being like, Hi, yeah, Steven Spielberg, can
- 20:34Speaker 2: you come over? Like we read a short story of
- 20:36Speaker 2: yours in the Indiana Review and we need to have you.
- 20:40Speaker 2: We want to make it into a movie. All my
- 20:43Speaker 2: short stories are like a girl walks into a bar
- 20:45Speaker 2: and has a conversation.
- 20:47Speaker 3: I'd like health insurance to call with an offer that's.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Too good to be and Hi, we have a kidney
- 20:52Speaker 2: in case you ever need one.
- 20:53Speaker 3: We're just gonna keep it on You're gonna put it
- 20:55Speaker 3: on ice.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Let us know if you ever need one. It's waiting
- 20:58Speaker 2: for you.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Well. Look, speaking of disappointment and things that were too
- 21:05Speaker 3: good to be true, I think that having you on
- 21:08Speaker 3: the podcast may have been too good to be true,
- 21:10Speaker 3: because I was looking forward to having you here.
- 21:12Speaker 2: It's something that can happen to me.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Something bad has happened to me, Amy. I was excited
- 21:18Speaker 3: to have you here. I thought, amy'l combie, we'll have
- 21:20Speaker 3: a nice time. We'll just chat, see what's up with
- 21:25Speaker 3: each other's lives that then move on with our days.
- 21:27Speaker 3: The podcast is called I said no gifts, so my
- 21:30Speaker 3: day was immediately ruined. And it's as I said, it's
- 21:33Speaker 3: very early. So now I have to live through the
- 21:34Speaker 3: rest of my day in a mood because you showed
- 21:38Speaker 3: up holding a gift. I'm sorry, doesn't seem like you are.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I just wanted to bring you a gift badly.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Okay, well should we open it here on the podcast?
- 21:50Speaker 2: I mean, I'm embarrassed for people to see, but I
- 21:53Speaker 2: guess I have no other choice.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Well, as long as you're embarrassed.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I know you like to embarrass me, of course.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Let's open it here. You've totally lost a kid. It's
- 22:06Speaker 3: in this beautiful brown bag. This is a yes, I'm
- 22:12Speaker 3: going to reach in here. Okay, Oh, it's an interesting feeling.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Let's pull this on I'm pulling something else.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Oh okay, I'm just making sure there's nothing else here.
- 22:22Speaker 3: It's a dense bag.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Sorry, by the way.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Wow, okay, oh this is whoa Oh wait did you
- 22:31Speaker 3: this is a van Go printed on it.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Where did you get this? This is my dad's paint
- 22:36Speaker 2: by number. My dad has become a painter, and uh,
- 22:41Speaker 2: every painting he does is worse than the last. This
- 22:44Speaker 2: one's actually one of his better ones.
- 22:46Speaker 3: This one's pretty good.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and I talked to you know. What I really
- 22:50Speaker 2: wanted to find, which I wasn't able to get, was
- 22:52Speaker 2: he did a portrait of me.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Oh, let's see this.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Can you show the camera that.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Put this on Instagram? If it's not great?
- 23:02Speaker 2: Has daughter Amy? You know, you can flip through. He's
- 23:05Speaker 2: got some other really kind of awful painting.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Who's this?
- 23:08Speaker 2: That's my mom at her at her birthday. That's pretty
- 23:10Speaker 2: I love this. The waiter in the background. This is
- 23:14Speaker 2: when he was still doing pain by numbers my dad.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Larry Silverberg, who read the caption on that.
- 23:20Speaker 3: One, says lots to criticize about this water color of
- 23:22Speaker 3: a girl swimmer assignment, especially the mouth. He's so he's
- 23:26Speaker 3: just getting ahead of the viewers of criticize.
- 23:29Speaker 2: When I read that caption on a painting lots to criticize,
- 23:32Speaker 2: I thought, this is this makes me understand myself and original.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so now he's no longer doing paint by numbers, but.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I think he's a good painter.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Don't lie.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Coy some coy with masking fluid, which I failed so
- 23:54Speaker 3: hard hard. Oh yeah, his daughter is here criticizing him
- 23:59Speaker 3: on see this.
- 24:00Speaker 2: He doesn't have Instagram. I thought, maybe you could do
- 24:03Speaker 2: something with that paint by number? Do you have any
- 24:05Speaker 2: interest in art or van go?
- 24:08Speaker 3: I do? I and in I'm a doodler. My mom's
- 24:12Speaker 3: a great painter.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Oh, really, really good letter letter, give it a critique.
- 24:17Speaker 3: I feel like if I didn't know this was paint
- 24:19Speaker 3: by numbers, I would just think it was a like
- 24:21Speaker 3: a you know print that you ordered online.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Okay, so you like it? Well, I think that's like
- 24:28Speaker 2: is a strong Will you put it up somewhere.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I'll put it up here in the studio. Okay, we'll
- 24:33Speaker 3: have a space so it'll be out of the camera.
- 24:37Speaker 2: My dad will feel honored. He is a painting.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Well, I'm not going to pay for a frame.
- 24:42Speaker 2: No, please, this could.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Probably dangle somewhere, or let it dangle. Yeah, we'll let
- 24:47Speaker 3: it dangle from a shell.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Honestly, you could put it on the ground as a mat,
- 24:53Speaker 2: as a doormat.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yeah, what's your problem with this thing? No?
- 24:56Speaker 2: I I just think actually that it's really beautiful to
- 25:01Speaker 2: start a hobby late in life.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yes, Oh so he started this how long ago?
- 25:06Speaker 2: He's about to turn eighty? Wow, he started it recently.
- 25:09Speaker 2: And it's all he does every day is and then
- 25:12Speaker 2: he calls me to tell me kind of about the paintings.
- 25:14Speaker 3: That's what I want you to know.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I also have a lot. He's got a lot of
- 25:17Speaker 2: paintings to give away, so he won't miss this.
- 25:20Speaker 3: You know. Does he mail these see or do you
- 25:23Speaker 3: get them when you go home?
- 25:24Speaker 2: No? When I go home. He's also trying to get
- 25:26Speaker 2: me to give them away to friends. He's like, please
- 25:28Speaker 2: give people my paintings.
- 25:30Speaker 3: You know. So when he gives you this one, for example,
- 25:32Speaker 3: what was your reaction.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I said, van go and he said, yeah, I fucked
- 25:38Speaker 2: it up. You know, immediately he was criticizing it.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Is he proud of any of his paintings.
- 25:44Speaker 2: One or two? But then he'll look at which I
- 25:46Speaker 2: also relate to, you know, as a writer a comedian.
- 25:48Speaker 2: The next day he'll look at it again and decide
- 25:50Speaker 2: he doesn't like it, right, And who among us is.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Is which ones was he kind of proud of?
- 25:56Speaker 2: Um, he likes the one that he did of my
- 25:59Speaker 2: mom do that?
- 26:00Speaker 3: Oh okay, that's a nice one, which is Yeah, he
- 26:02Speaker 3: captured the waiter who seems kind of frustrated.
- 26:04Speaker 2: He captures an essence and it even if he captures
- 26:07Speaker 2: sort of nothing else.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Does he have any goals? Does he want to be
- 26:10Speaker 3: shown in a gallery?
- 26:12Speaker 2: No, he just wants to have fun.
- 26:14Speaker 3: And did this come out of nowhere? He's like, well,
- 26:16Speaker 3: I got to do something with my time.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I think he wanted like an
- 26:19Speaker 2: artistic outlet, and honestly reminded me that I don't. I
- 26:22Speaker 2: don't really have a single hobby. Oh I have one hobby.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I actually almost brought you poker chips. I play poker.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Oh hobby.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a good hobby, but like I have
- 26:31Speaker 2: no I think if you're in the arts as a job.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Right, it kind of ruins that your hobbies.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, then you have no sort of artistic hobby. But poker,
- 26:39Speaker 2: you know, like and it's unhealthy.
- 26:41Speaker 3: How long have you been playing poker?
- 26:43Speaker 2: Probably like three or four years now?
- 26:45Speaker 3: And did you teach yourself or Christine Madrano? I bet
- 26:49Speaker 3: a friend of the poll former former guests at the post.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Okay, shout out to Christine Mitrano. She was sort of
- 26:54Speaker 2: my mentor.
- 26:54Speaker 3: She play excellent poker.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yes, and so we go to the casino together. We
- 26:58Speaker 2: don't even play. I play homegme. But where we really
- 27:01Speaker 2: shine is at the casino.
- 27:02Speaker 3: What casino do you go to?
- 27:03Speaker 2: You name it. I've been there commerce the bike Hollywood Park.
- 27:07Speaker 2: If you look in my wallet, I'm like trying to
- 27:10Speaker 2: take out a credit card. I have casino cards like
- 27:12Speaker 2: flying out.
- 27:13Speaker 3: You've been to the Marongo?
- 27:14Speaker 2: Oh that I haven't been.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You haven't been to the Mango.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I haven't been to the Marongo.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Wow, that's shocking.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I'm meeting a lot of weird old men at the
- 27:21Speaker 2: casino and they are close friends of mine. How much
- 27:26Speaker 2: It's so embarrassing how many people I recognize when I
- 27:28Speaker 2: go in all these Every Filipino older man is my
- 27:31Speaker 2: best friend.
- 27:32Speaker 3: That's great. What a community is a community? Have you
- 27:35Speaker 3: won big before?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yes, I've won big and I've lost big.
- 27:38Speaker 3: How much have you won.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Like seven hundred, that seems okay.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say that's big. I mean that would be.
- 27:46Speaker 2: For me low stakes, and I'm very we call it nitty.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I'm in nitty, meaning I'm like a conservative player. I'm
- 27:54Speaker 2: not going in. I'm not trying to gamble.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Or you're healthy, you're not a gambling addict.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yes, I'm not trying to gamble. I'm trying to play
- 28:00Speaker 2: sort of strategically.
- 28:02Speaker 3: What's the most you've lost.
- 28:05Speaker 2: In one sitting?
- 28:06Speaker 3: Yeah, like six.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Hundreds, See that would be you know, oh, and I
- 28:09Speaker 2: feel terrible about myself after, but it goes up and down,
- 28:12Speaker 2: so like overall, I'm pretty even, right, That's why it
- 28:14Speaker 2: is like a stupid hobby that's just sort of like
- 28:17Speaker 2: stress relief.
- 28:17Speaker 3: If I lost six hundred dollars, I would have to
- 28:19Speaker 3: get a second job.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I mean when I lose six hundred dollars, it's always
- 28:24Speaker 2: because I'm like really stressed out, and it's like healthy,
- 28:27Speaker 2: Like I got to play poker as a stress reliever.
- 28:31Speaker 2: So like my boyfriend would take a long walk and
- 28:33Speaker 2: I'm like going all in on pocket tooths. You know,
- 28:35Speaker 2: it's like not a good do.
- 28:38Speaker 3: You think you'll ever try competitive poker.
- 28:41Speaker 2: You mean like a tournament. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and you
- 28:43Speaker 2: need a lot of time for a tournament. I like
- 28:45Speaker 2: cash games because you can just go and cash games
- 28:47Speaker 2: are still competitive you're playing against the team, right, But
- 28:50Speaker 2: cash games just mean.
- 28:51Speaker 3: You go in and out a tournament. You have to
- 28:53Speaker 3: just and can anybody show up to a tournament?
- 28:54Speaker 2: I'd like to bring you.
- 28:56Speaker 3: I am the last person who will The idea of
- 28:59Speaker 3: even playing one game of poker is horrified.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I mean, I love it so much. I am smiling
- 29:03Speaker 2: minightly the entire time. I'm smiling even when I'm losing money.
- 29:07Speaker 3: That probably works in your favor, I think, so, yeah,
- 29:10Speaker 3: because no one, no one can really tell what's going
- 29:12Speaker 3: on in your mind.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, and I like I have like I think
- 29:15Speaker 2: one of my better qualities is I have a deep
- 29:18Speaker 2: curiosity about other people. Okay, sometimes you know, curiosity kills the.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Cat, right.
- 29:23Speaker 2: So I meet really sort of interesting people at the
- 29:28Speaker 2: poker table. And I met a guy whose job was
- 29:30Speaker 2: to clean up after dead get rid of.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Dead bodies, oh at crime scene clean.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Up or just if I were to pass away here.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Oh so he works for the morgue or something.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I guess he just he was like, if the cops come,
- 29:43Speaker 2: they're not the ones who come to take away the body, right.
- 29:46Speaker 3: They have some guy in a suit. And did you
- 29:49Speaker 3: learn anything about that whole situation? What did he have
- 29:51Speaker 3: any tips?
- 29:52Speaker 2: I asked him? You know, actually, I was like, do
- 29:54Speaker 2: you like the job? And he said something sort of
- 29:56Speaker 2: moving about like I like to treat, like really honor
- 30:02Speaker 2: a body's last moments on earth, like I treat it with.
- 30:05Speaker 3: A lot of care.
- 30:06Speaker 2: So it was and then I loved dream seventy dollars
- 30:09Speaker 2: and left.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Was he a good poker player?
- 30:12Speaker 2: No, not particularly. I think I was a little you know,
- 30:16Speaker 2: I've met some guys on parole. I'm meeting a lot
- 30:18Speaker 2: of interest. Wow.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I I don't mind black jack, but not playing
- 30:23Speaker 3: for money.
- 30:24Speaker 2: How do you play blackjack for no money?
- 30:26Speaker 3: Just like my boyfriend and I will just play, you know,
- 30:28Speaker 3: just this is very rare. But okay, okay, here's just
- 30:32Speaker 3: kind of a thrill. Yeah, no, I like, do you
- 30:35Speaker 3: play blackjack at all?
- 30:36Speaker 2: Yeah? I like blackjack. I like craps. I'm a gambler.
- 30:38Speaker 2: It's my worst quality in best quality.
- 30:41Speaker 3: What's your favorite casino?
- 30:43Speaker 2: Well, I love Vegas. Okay, and but if we're talking
- 30:46Speaker 2: about l A, well, this is when things are going
- 30:49Speaker 2: to get real freaky. Like I like the food at
- 30:54Speaker 2: the bicycle, I like the Kung pow chicken at Hollywood Park.
- 30:57Speaker 2: This is a much time I'm spending at these because
- 31:00Speaker 2: see those and in commerce, I like the action.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Oh interesting, that seems like the most important thing for
- 31:09Speaker 3: Are you eating kungkout chicken while playing poker? Yeah, so
- 31:14Speaker 3: there's like a plate of it.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Well yeah, and yeah, I'm eating it. I never eat
- 31:18Speaker 2: anything you got any for knife. You can't eat anything
- 31:20Speaker 2: with your hands, obviously because you're touching the carts chips.
- 31:23Speaker 3: I didn't know you were allowed to eat during poker.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's actually one of my favorite parts. It's like
- 31:28Speaker 2: getting the casino food and eat eating. People don't think
- 31:32Speaker 2: that I can be a degenerate gambler because I'm five
- 31:35Speaker 2: feet tall. They think something about that. I think I
- 31:37Speaker 2: can't see over the chips.
- 31:39Speaker 3: I feel like short people are more likely to be
- 31:41Speaker 3: degenerate gamblers. I feel like tall people don't need to
- 31:44Speaker 3: they've got it all. Tall people don't need to get
- 31:46Speaker 3: or short people are like, well maybe this.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Will fix everything to hell? Yeah, like close to the ground.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Do you like Las Vegas?
- 31:53Speaker 3: Uh? No, absolutely. I'm trying to be more careful about
- 31:59Speaker 3: how I talk about because I feel like, no, not
- 32:02Speaker 3: so much that I just feel like I grew up
- 32:03Speaker 3: in a city that was the butt of every joke,
- 32:06Speaker 3: you know, and I remember being like, well, there are
- 32:08Speaker 3: good things about the city. I will say, there's so
- 32:10Speaker 3: many awful things about Las Vegas that maybe maybe they're
- 32:14Speaker 3: for other people. It's not my cup of tea. I
- 32:15Speaker 3: will say, you do see the bottom of humanity there, sure.
- 32:18Speaker 2: And I only ever spend like two or three days
- 32:21Speaker 2: right time.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Anyone who's in Las Vegas for more than three days,
- 32:24Speaker 3: their life is ruined.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yah.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah, going there? And how long you were there?
- 32:29Speaker 4: For?
- 32:29Speaker 3: Three days?
- 32:30Speaker 2: Two days?
- 32:31Speaker 3: Two days?
- 32:31Speaker 2: And we went to a high end strip club, oh,
- 32:34Speaker 2: which I'd never been to disturbing. I thought that there
- 32:37Speaker 2: would be way more like joy and laughter. I don't
- 32:40Speaker 2: know what I like. I was thinking it was going
- 32:41Speaker 2: to be like maybe more burlesque type like room. But
- 32:45Speaker 2: I think because it was high end, the men were
- 32:48Speaker 2: so grimly horny. I didn't I was like I was
- 32:51Speaker 2: waiting for like some like, but they felt like.
- 32:54Speaker 3: They were owed something grim grimly.
- 32:58Speaker 2: But I did see a woman take off her thong
- 33:01Speaker 2: to reveal a smaller thong, and then she did of
- 33:04Speaker 2: that song and there was an even smaller thng, So
- 33:07Speaker 2: that made it all That made it all worth that
- 33:11Speaker 2: a thong on a thong.
- 33:14Speaker 3: No Vegas has there's an apocalyptic prison city feel to
- 33:19Speaker 3: it that just doesn't really work for me. Yeah, there's
- 33:22Speaker 3: a you know, there's a great Thai restaurant I like
- 33:24Speaker 3: there that Like I wish it wasn't in that city
- 33:27Speaker 3: because I would go there.
- 33:29Speaker 2: What do you ever think about what you how you
- 33:33Speaker 2: would do in an apocalypse?
- 33:36Speaker 3: I would kill myself immediately.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like that question. And some people really
- 33:40Speaker 2: take joy in being like, oh, I'll like grow cabbage
- 33:44Speaker 2: and all. Why I'm a Type one diabetic. I'm like
- 33:46Speaker 2: I need insulin, Like just eat me first.
- 33:48Speaker 3: The absolute nightmare for you.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not interested in Also the It's like
- 33:53Speaker 2: every boyfriend I've ever had is always like I'll get
- 33:56Speaker 2: you insulin. It's like, you know, like what are you
- 33:59Speaker 2: going to grind up the pain greass of a pig?
- 34:01Speaker 2: Like you're not confidence, You're not gonna be helpful to me,
- 34:04Speaker 2: Like eat me if I don't like to imagine the
- 34:06Speaker 2: in apocalypse. I know it's getting closer and closer.
- 34:08Speaker 3: But I'm no, I just feel like at that point,
- 34:12Speaker 3: why bother? I like to camp for one night Max.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not a big camper, so I'd rather be
- 34:18Speaker 2: in Vegas than on a campground.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Like on the downhill slide towards like the end of
- 34:23Speaker 3: the world. I would probably enjoy myself with some looting,
- 34:26Speaker 3: et cetera. You think you're gonna loot, I would loot, absolutely,
- 34:30Speaker 3: I would loot now, Okay.
- 34:32Speaker 2: See, and I think I would be like I would
- 34:34Speaker 2: be like, come, let's play a game. I'm dealing cards.
- 34:37Speaker 3: No, I would be throwing a cinder block through a
- 34:39Speaker 3: best By window, getting a new washing machine.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 34:45Speaker 3: I feel like that that level of freedom, that anarchy
- 34:48Speaker 3: would be fun for a minute. Yeah, one minute, and
- 34:50Speaker 3: then it's like, okay, now it's all over. Throw me
- 34:53Speaker 3: in a river.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I'm a bit of a minus the gambling, a bit
- 34:56Speaker 2: of a goodie two shoes.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Oh interesting, Well, but see that as am I'm a
- 35:00Speaker 3: I follow rules but like to suddenly be like, well
- 35:02Speaker 3: who cares?
- 35:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you might be turn out to be the most
- 35:07Speaker 2: evil man in the apocalypse, like after having followed all
- 35:10Speaker 2: these rules.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, it's all pent topic, like I'm the ruler
- 35:14Speaker 3: of Earth. Yeah yeah, yeah, I'm such an evil.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you've been demonic and no.
- 35:19Speaker 3: I'd love to be in the grocery store just eating
- 35:21Speaker 3: the food while I'm walking around.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that was my dream as a kid,
- 35:24Speaker 2: to be like left alone at like pavilions. What's sad?
- 35:30Speaker 3: There's something satisfying about the idea of like drinking a
- 35:34Speaker 3: drink before you get to the checkout and then just
- 35:36Speaker 3: paying for the ka something like that.
- 35:38Speaker 2: You know, they got mad at my grandma, my booboo.
- 35:41Speaker 2: May she rest in peace. She was like in her
- 35:44Speaker 2: eighties nineties for going through like the nuts and taking
- 35:47Speaker 2: a few break. The grocery store guy came over and said,
- 35:50Speaker 2: you can't do that. It's like this woman's like eighty eight.
- 35:53Speaker 2: You're not gonna let her eat a pistachio. Jordan Allman,
- 35:56Speaker 2: what your sample of cash? Who let her sample of cashew?
- 36:00Speaker 2: It was so crazy, Wow, that's really I think after
- 36:03Speaker 2: your hand in, she was like taking it out with
- 36:05Speaker 2: the even if she was putting her hand in come.
- 36:06Speaker 3: On out of the bulk bins.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Out of the bulk bins.
- 36:09Speaker 3: I think that's for anyone of any age. They should
- 36:12Speaker 3: be able to do that.
- 36:13Speaker 2: One little fresh.
- 36:15Speaker 3: It may have been there for a long time.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Everything if the TVs, you know, is under lock and key,
- 36:20Speaker 2: so you got to be like, excuse me, like I
- 36:24Speaker 2: need this dealready.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I mean, if the item is under seven dollars, they
- 36:28Speaker 3: should not be behind glass. Just let let people steal it.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Turns out we're ready to loot right now, you and I.
- 36:38Speaker 3: The CVS. I feel like that must cost them more
- 36:41Speaker 3: money than they have to hire more employees or something
- 36:44Speaker 3: to go let people into the glass, one would think.
- 36:47Speaker 3: And they have to pay for all of the glass. Yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 3: and it just makes it a missing It was already
- 36:52Speaker 3: such a miserable experience. Let us in charge pharmacy should
- 36:57Speaker 3: be doing something to make them more appealing. AE own
- 37:01Speaker 3: forget it. Well, do you have any other hobbies planned?
- 37:08Speaker 2: Do I have any other hobbies plan?
- 37:09Speaker 3: You know?
- 37:10Speaker 2: I used to paint grand Yeah, and I would like
- 37:13Speaker 2: to take it up again. I went to one pottery class,
- 37:17Speaker 2: but the instructor like did it all?
- 37:20Speaker 3: Oh?
- 37:20Speaker 2: So my bowl turned out so good that I was
- 37:23Speaker 2: to like the left of the instructor, and she kept
- 37:25Speaker 2: coming and putting her hands on my bowl. But people
- 37:28Speaker 2: get really into pottery.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Oh yeah, some people are very good at it. I'm not.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Do you have any hobbies?
- 37:33Speaker 3: No, I mean I guess video games is kind of
- 37:36Speaker 3: a hobby.
- 37:38Speaker 2: I'm like the worst kind of gamer because I played
- 37:40Speaker 2: games on my phone such a fucking's kind of gambling. Well, well,
- 37:46Speaker 2: I mean the games I'm playing are like Bubble Spinner.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I'm not like spending money on them, but I'm on
- 37:50Speaker 2: level three and fifty seven.
- 37:52Speaker 3: It's like so creepy and they're very slot machine coded.
- 37:56Speaker 2: They're just fun to like play. Well, Like, you know,
- 37:59Speaker 2: TLC poly Family is on in the background. I was
- 38:02Speaker 2: telling you, I.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Like, we were talking about TLC poly Family.
- 38:05Speaker 2: You haven't watched TLZ poll Family. I beg your listeners,
- 38:08Speaker 2: and I beg you.
- 38:09Speaker 3: I haven't watched it yet. TLC at some point there's
- 38:12Speaker 3: going to be a reckoning for their producers.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Oh. I think already they're having trouble sleeping at night.
- 38:18Speaker 3: I think that they are.
- 38:20Speaker 2: I haven't seen yet. They need it worse a dark.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Soul when you start pitching TLC reality shows they're at
- 38:26Speaker 3: Carnival Barkers.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Oh, I'm back on Marriati First Sight, which is also
- 38:31Speaker 2: kind of an interesting.
- 38:32Speaker 3: We we o died on ninety Day Fiance during the pandemic.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I was watching that during the pandemic and something happens
- 38:39Speaker 2: where it gets too dark.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah, and you've just had so much of it.
- 38:42Speaker 2: You're just like and then you're just like, the people
- 38:46Speaker 2: are coming over to America to be with the scariest,
- 38:51Speaker 2: ugliest man you've ever seen, and they have so much
- 38:55Speaker 2: to lose and so little to gain that it becomes
- 38:57Speaker 2: too difficult, too yeah to continue watching. But I like
- 39:00Speaker 2: when the women take advantage of the men.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Oh, of course. When I love when there's somebody coming
- 39:06Speaker 3: from another country and it's just some oaf uh of course, like, yeah,
- 39:10Speaker 3: you should be taking advantage.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yeah, I have the money.
- 39:13Speaker 3: She knows what she's doing.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Or like when it's like some dumb guy and
- 39:17Speaker 2: like a Russian woman is like, you have to give
- 39:19Speaker 2: me all my all your money.
- 39:20Speaker 3: I feel like we're probably talking about the same one,
- 39:22Speaker 3: and I feel like they lived in Park l Brea.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Do you remember that couple?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I think that guy Bobs I can't do
- 39:30Speaker 2: a Russian accent, but.
- 39:31Speaker 3: That was pretty good. Thank you boobs.
- 39:33Speaker 2: I need boos, I need more purse.
- 39:37Speaker 3: She absolutely juiced that.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Guy, and he was just kind of like is this
- 39:42Speaker 2: a normal relationship? Like you see him on Reddit being
- 39:45Speaker 2: like is this is it normal for your wife to
- 39:48Speaker 2: yell at you? I need boobs, I need persons.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I think he was eventually arrested for something else.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Uh oh well that makes it like fraud.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure it was fraud.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Fraud, something gonna vague fraud.
- 40:01Speaker 3: But I was. I was rooting for that mean Russian
- 40:03Speaker 3: the entire time.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Come on, It's like, yeah, he him, squish him.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I wonder where she is now.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I feel like I'm somebody who might accidentally commit fraud
- 40:15Speaker 2: just in my tax is really that's scary estimating and
- 40:19Speaker 2: my taxes are really confusing because I have to file
- 40:22Speaker 2: a thing for everywhere I've done stand up.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Oh if that's real, I've definitely.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Done some kind of fraud.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Hopefully no one's This show has a big IRS listenership,
- 40:32Speaker 3: so that sort of thing when you're freelancing is so scared.
- 40:39Speaker 3: My tax I'm just like, please be on top of this.
- 40:42Speaker 2: A mere tax guy, you know, he's in Chatsworth. He's like,
- 40:45Speaker 2: she gambles too much.
- 40:46Speaker 3: That's oh yeah, gambling. Do you have to report your
- 40:49Speaker 3: I don't know if I don't.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Do enough that I report it, like you know, and
- 40:53Speaker 2: I'm pretty kind of I.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Wonder how much you have to win gambling in order
- 40:57Speaker 3: to report it. I bet the casino tells you. You right,
- 41:01Speaker 3: they're probably kind of on the.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Watch me right now getting into trouble, like realizing that
- 41:05Speaker 2: I've been I'm supposed to be reporting and I haven't.
- 41:08Speaker 2: I yeah, definitely, if you win a big tournament, like
- 41:11Speaker 2: Christine placed in a big tournament and she won like
- 41:13Speaker 2: eight K, I assume, yes, that's a big Maybe it's
- 41:16Speaker 2: like ten.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Christine's going to eventually win the world.
- 41:19Speaker 2: We're going to bring you to the casino and see.
- 41:21Speaker 3: And I will be an absolute killed joy. You will be.
- 41:24Speaker 3: You will regret every second I'm there. I can guarantee
- 41:29Speaker 3: I was in the casino a couple of months ago
- 41:31Speaker 3: and it was a miserable experience for me. Which casino
- 41:34Speaker 3: the one in Palm Springs that it's not wrong? Yes, yes,
- 41:40Speaker 3: my boyfriend was playing black jack and he enjoys gambling,
- 41:43Speaker 3: and he since we had met, I think he had
- 41:45Speaker 3: gambled once, like ten years ago, and I said, never again.
- 41:49Speaker 3: And then this you want to go with him? The
- 41:52Speaker 3: cam that he could because I was like, you have
- 41:54Speaker 3: to stop throwing them up. Wait, and not that he
- 41:57Speaker 3: was like now that he had, Boyfriend's.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Just simply afraid of me too. I'm sure he wishes
- 42:02Speaker 2: he could say, I need you to.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Stop, but this time you convinced me. He gave me
- 42:06Speaker 3: twenty dollars and I went and used the slot machines
- 42:08Speaker 3: realized very quickly I don't even know how to use
- 42:10Speaker 3: a slot machine, and then lost off the money.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I told my boyfriend because he had lost money, and
- 42:16Speaker 2: he was like in a like he was upset about it, like,
- 42:19Speaker 2: and I got you can't be around me if you're
- 42:20Speaker 2: upset about losing money like this.
- 42:22Speaker 3: That vibe is not of course, so do not bring me. Yeah.
- 42:25Speaker 2: No, I'm like, I need I'm losing money. I'm smiling, Okay.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Because you're treating it as a game, not as a
- 42:30Speaker 3: money making sure. Sure, yeah, because I would go into
- 42:33Speaker 3: it thinking I have to make money. Now, this is
- 42:35Speaker 3: my job for the next two hours.
- 42:37Speaker 2: And have I occasionally told people I was going to
- 42:39Speaker 2: the library and then went to the casino instead. Yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 2: and that's something again, Doctor Barbara listening, we can circle
- 42:45Speaker 2: back to that. I don't think you're supposed to be
- 42:47Speaker 2: lying about where you are.
- 42:49Speaker 3: Wait, what's your favorite casino in Vegas?
- 42:52Speaker 2: I like where I like to play poker. Is the
- 42:54Speaker 2: Encore or the Win?
- 42:56Speaker 3: Never heard of the Core?
- 42:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's nicely familiar with the use a free drink,
- 43:00Speaker 2: So I like that.
- 43:01Speaker 3: You see that appeals to me, but a free drink appeal,
- 43:03Speaker 3: But for me, it's a diet coke. Just spend the
- 43:07Speaker 3: two dollars.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Fun though, you know that free diet coke. I'm like,
- 43:10Speaker 2: keep them coming, swell.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Should you have to gamble for them to start offering
- 43:13Speaker 3: you free drinks?
- 43:14Speaker 2: You if you just sit down at the table with
- 43:16Speaker 2: any money, they I noticed they kind of take a
- 43:18Speaker 2: long time to bring you a drink.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Oh, of course they want more money. I mean the
- 43:23Speaker 3: psychology that they're using. I bet they have a whole
- 43:25Speaker 3: team of psychologists working.
- 43:27Speaker 2: And the amount of verbal abuse that these women, I mean,
- 43:29Speaker 2: like sexual harassment. These women taken at the table were like, sweetie,
- 43:34Speaker 2: come on, sweetie, whatever I don't know why I made
- 43:36Speaker 2: them from like New Jersey. That's me too. When I
- 43:39Speaker 2: sit at the table, I'm like, sweetie, it's sweet sweetie.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Can you hurry up? That Bailey's on ice like ordering
- 43:48Speaker 2: the weirdest.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Oh that you are living my hell. I don't know
- 43:53Speaker 3: how you do it, but yeah, hobbies. I was rock
- 43:55Speaker 3: climbing for a minute. I need to get back into
- 43:57Speaker 3: that is that scary indoors? Not for me at least.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I think you have a cord.
- 44:04Speaker 3: No, I was bouldering, so you don't have a cord,
- 44:07Speaker 3: but you're only at max like twenty five feet in
- 44:10Speaker 3: the air. At one point, I was like I had
- 44:12Speaker 3: gotten to like a maybe mid to high level, and
- 44:15Speaker 3: I decided to film it on my phone and I
- 44:17Speaker 3: filmed it like me.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Getting to the top, like you put it on a
- 44:21Speaker 2: propped it.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Up against my water bottle. I filmed the whole thing
- 44:24Speaker 3: and it was difficult. I got to the top and
- 44:25Speaker 3: got down and then I watched out my phone. It's
- 44:27Speaker 3: like this is I can't I can never show anyone this.
- 44:29Speaker 3: This is so embarrassing.
- 44:31Speaker 2: What was embarrassing about it?
- 44:32Speaker 3: Because it's like I climbed like fifteen feet into the air,
- 44:36Speaker 3: you're it, You're like, yeah, while doing it, it's like,
- 44:39Speaker 3: this is so difficult, this is so impressive. And then
- 44:41Speaker 3: you watch it, You're like, this is maybe two and
- 44:44Speaker 3: a half times my height. If I were to fall
- 44:46Speaker 3: to the ground, I might be sore.
- 44:48Speaker 2: The next thing, No, I pull vaulted in high school. Wow, Yes,
- 44:52Speaker 2: And I was so bad at it. I was not
- 44:54Speaker 2: allowed to participate in any of the meats.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Who told you you weren't allowed to participate, they were
- 44:59Speaker 3: just like.
- 45:00Speaker 2: You're like, you're not even gonna make it. Like I
- 45:02Speaker 2: could only make it over the first thing, which is
- 45:05Speaker 2: five feet, so I could essentially vault over myself if
- 45:08Speaker 2: I was like coming to attack myself, and I had
- 45:10Speaker 2: a stick and au But I remember thinking when when
- 45:15Speaker 2: you're in the air flying over, you.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Feel like you're of course you're staring.
- 45:21Speaker 2: And then someone had taken a video of me, and
- 45:23Speaker 2: you're it looks so small compared to what other people
- 45:26Speaker 2: are doing, because they're vaulting over like six feet and
- 45:29Speaker 2: seven feet.
- 45:29Speaker 3: And eve, and how does that I've never really, I've
- 45:31Speaker 3: never tried it. You stick the thing in the grounder
- 45:33Speaker 3: than it kind of.
- 45:34Speaker 2: And then you but it really is like your form.
- 45:38Speaker 2: So like the best girl on the team was like
- 45:40Speaker 2: tiny and didn't have big upper body strike, but she
- 45:43Speaker 2: had the right form. But if you're like a strong guy,
- 45:45Speaker 2: you can kind of just vault yourself. I could do neither.
- 45:48Speaker 2: I was just like poking people in the butts with
- 45:50Speaker 2: the sticks, like having fun.
- 45:52Speaker 3: What drew you to it?
- 45:53Speaker 2: Then you didn't have to try out and I needed
- 45:56Speaker 2: to finish a pee credit.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I can't believe you didn't have to try out for that.
- 45:59Speaker 3: That's is like one that's kind of dangerous.
- 46:01Speaker 2: No track, they were like at my high school, they
- 46:04Speaker 2: were just kind of like what do you want to
- 46:05Speaker 2: do in track? Originally I wanted to throw the discus? Oh,
- 46:08Speaker 2: and they told me I was too weak. They were
- 46:12Speaker 2: like you got a way more than the discus, you know,
- 46:14Speaker 2: five five feet. So then I was like what else
- 46:16Speaker 2: can I do when I don't have to run? And
- 46:18Speaker 2: they were like, how wanted you try to pull vaulted?
- 46:20Speaker 3: Do you think you could pull vault now? At any level?
- 46:22Speaker 1: You know?
- 46:23Speaker 2: That's a friend just was like do you still pull vault?
- 46:25Speaker 2: And I was like, it's not only something you do
- 46:26Speaker 2: like as a leisure activity.
- 46:28Speaker 3: You have to go buy what is this thing called
- 46:29Speaker 3: a stick? The pole?
- 46:34Speaker 2: But yeah, like you get the pole, you need the
- 46:37Speaker 2: you need some pads, you need to find the Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 3: I feel like that would be a practical skill to
- 46:42Speaker 3: have in some regard if you're running away from someone
- 46:44Speaker 3: trying to Yeah, exactly pull vaulting away from like a
- 46:48Speaker 3: horde of people.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Should we take that up as a hobby.
- 46:51Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind trying.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Do you have any other hobbies besides rock climbing?
- 46:55Speaker 3: No, I play three chords on the guitar. I was
- 46:58Speaker 3: thinking about buying a bass guitar. I think I could
- 47:00Speaker 3: probably handle it.
- 47:00Speaker 2: The three chords that can get you far.
- 47:03Speaker 3: No, because I'm not good enough at even forming the chords.
- 47:06Speaker 3: I was trying to learn to play this song see
- 47:09Speaker 3: of Heartbreak. Do you know that song? But Don Gibson,
- 47:11Speaker 3: wonderful song. I believe you, and I think I kind
- 47:16Speaker 3: of began getting there, then got frustrated and gave it up.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I have a really stupid question. How many chords are there?
- 47:23Speaker 3: Oh? There? I mean there's so many chords. There's one
- 47:26Speaker 3: for each note. You know, each note has multiple chords
- 47:30Speaker 3: around it, Major, minor, all sorts of chords. So honestly,
- 47:33Speaker 3: you have any idea how many chords are?
- 47:34Speaker 2: I added this out I sound like.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Honestly, I think the limit does not exist because you
- 47:43Speaker 4: have like you not only have major and minor, you
- 47:46Speaker 4: also have like dominant and like sus telling me.
- 47:49Speaker 2: There's infinity chords, I mean as many.
- 47:52Speaker 4: I mean I'd have to look up one of those
- 47:54Speaker 4: like equations where you type in how many notes and
- 47:57Speaker 4: then how many because you can put seven notes in
- 48:00Speaker 4: a chord if you really wanted to, so like you
- 48:03Speaker 4: think about how many notes there are, and then you
- 48:06Speaker 4: combine those notes with other notes.
- 48:08Speaker 3: I don't know it just like it starts stacking who
- 48:10Speaker 3: the rainbow? Yes sound its.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Occurring to me. Now I've never known what a chord is.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Have you never played any music?
- 48:17Speaker 2: I played piano growing up, but not well.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Right, and sometimes you put more than two notes?
- 48:21Speaker 2: No, I know, I guess I knew that those are chords.
- 48:23Speaker 3: But chords, yeah, I can play three, and technically I
- 48:29Speaker 3: should be able to play a lot of songs. But
- 48:30Speaker 3: I'm just my finger. The finger strength isn't there.
- 48:33Speaker 2: We got to work out your fingers.
- 48:36Speaker 3: But I think with a bass, I think I could
- 48:37Speaker 3: probably figure that out. One note at a time.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Can you do you need to be in a band
- 48:41Speaker 2: to play the bass guitar or can you just kind
- 48:43Speaker 2: of do it alone?
- 48:44Speaker 3: You could play it alone. I think eventually you'd be like,
- 48:46Speaker 3: I need some other things going on here.
- 48:48Speaker 2: That's like drummers. I'm like a drummer's hard to like
- 48:51Speaker 2: drum alone.
- 48:52Speaker 3: But a drum solo, when done well is kind of fun.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Sure. But if you're like only ever drumming alone.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Just yeah, you're kind of there. Solitary guitar, I feel
- 49:01Speaker 3: like you can play a large chunk of a song.
- 49:04Speaker 2: I got a lot of questions about the drums, like.
- 49:07Speaker 3: What how do they decide how many are in a kit?
- 49:11Speaker 2: No, well, they decide like how to play it in
- 49:14Speaker 2: one way? To me, the drums seem really like you
- 49:18Speaker 2: get to improvise.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Yeah you can really, I mean make up your own beat.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I guess yeah.
- 49:23Speaker 2: I'm realizing now I dated a drummer for a while
- 49:25Speaker 2: and never really asked him a question about it. It's
- 49:27Speaker 2: occurring to me you had no interest in his life,
- 49:31Speaker 2: Like I better call him up and say, why don't
- 49:33Speaker 2: I ask you about how do you decide about the drumming?
- 49:36Speaker 3: I think eventually, if I gave it my all, I
- 49:38Speaker 3: could play the drums. But it requires a lot of
- 49:41Speaker 3: because you're as I think. I just listened to a
- 49:45Speaker 3: lot of music, and I think I have a decent
- 49:47Speaker 3: natural rhythm. Okay, but that could be wrong.
- 49:51Speaker 2: You have to be on a desert island with one
- 49:54Speaker 2: record that you were going to play over and over
- 49:57Speaker 2: and over again.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Oh that's a that's such a difficult question to answer.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Oh my god, I don't know.
- 50:04Speaker 2: I guess I'll let you think about it and text me.
- 50:06Speaker 3: Uh, I would like to. You have to have something
- 50:10Speaker 3: that won't get old too quickly, that.
- 50:13Speaker 2: You can listen to over and over and over again.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Do you know what an album that I think is
- 50:17Speaker 3: like between like a pop album and more experimental as
- 50:20Speaker 3: David Bowie's Low and it's like it's I think there's
- 50:24Speaker 3: enough there that it could probably sustain you for a
- 50:27Speaker 3: while on what about you?
- 50:30Speaker 2: I have such a terrible taste in music. I'm like,
- 50:33Speaker 2: that's fine. I only listened to like Joni Mitchell and.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Like not terrible rule. I guess natural combinations.
- 50:39Speaker 2: No, I'm like, I guess maybe I like a Lorn.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Hill mis Education. That's a good album.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Nineties and early two thousands, R and B and like
- 50:50Speaker 2: folk music. I'm all over the place.
- 50:53Speaker 3: I think that you could end up with a great
- 50:55Speaker 3: Joni Mitchell album. Would be good on a desert.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe I take like Joni Mitchell.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Give me a break. Yeah, come best of? I don't
- 51:03Speaker 3: think you could do best of.
- 51:04Speaker 2: I don't know. You tell me.
- 51:06Speaker 3: That's like saying you just want to like a compilation
- 51:08Speaker 3: of chapters from different books.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Okay, best of books, that's what I should have brought you.
- 51:16Speaker 3: Okay, I think we should play a game. We're going
- 51:18Speaker 3: to play a game called Gift to a Curse, but
- 51:20Speaker 3: I need a number between one and ten from you.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Six.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Okay. I have to do some light calculating to get
- 51:24Speaker 3: our game pieces. So right now you can promote, recommend,
- 51:27Speaker 3: do whatever you want. Tell me right back.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Okay. My debut novel is out at every bookstore. It's
- 51:32Speaker 2: called First Time Long Time through Grand Central Publishing. Slash
- 51:38Speaker 2: hashet First Time Long Time. It wasn't airports for a while.
- 51:43Speaker 2: It was on the airport bookshelves, but it's no longer
- 51:46Speaker 2: a new release. Now it's like a five month old release,
- 51:49Speaker 2: but you can still find it.
- 51:51Speaker 3: That's great. Everybody should get it.
- 51:52Speaker 2: I love that and Noble that's the bookstore, I say,
- 51:58Speaker 2: I don't know why I would say that. Support your
- 52:00Speaker 2: barns and notes, go to your local bookstore. I love
- 52:04Speaker 2: to see it in bookstores, So send me a picture.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Can you see it?
- 52:09Speaker 3: I think that's such a beautiful title.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm a radio It has a radio component,
- 52:15Speaker 2: so first time listener, first time that long time? Oh wow,
- 52:22Speaker 2: and here we are kind of on the radio.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Did it take you a long time to get to
- 52:25Speaker 3: that title? Yeah?
- 52:28Speaker 2: I like sent a bunch of titles to the editors
- 52:32Speaker 2: and my agents as we were trying to sell it,
- 52:34Speaker 2: and to my agents first before we sold it, and
- 52:39Speaker 2: this was the one we all liked the best. I
- 52:42Speaker 2: also said, you know what interesting is the cover? They
- 52:44Speaker 2: sent me a lot of really ugly covers.
- 52:46Speaker 3: It's got a great cover, and we said something kind
- 52:48Speaker 3: of fun and graupd stands out because there's a lot
- 52:51Speaker 3: of book cover design that kind of just blurs together.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I like. I like a graphic cover and uh,
- 52:59Speaker 2: you just hope that someone will walk by and like
- 53:01Speaker 2: pick it up.
- 53:01Speaker 3: All right, what's your favorite book?
- 53:03Speaker 2: Oh god, the book that made me want to be
- 53:05Speaker 2: a writer when I was in college. Middle March by Elliot.
- 53:09Speaker 3: I've never read it.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Really, it's long and it's sort of a study and
- 53:14Speaker 2: what it means to be alive. My favorite book of
- 53:17Speaker 2: the month, I would say, is Beauty Land. Okay, my
- 53:21Speaker 2: favorite book of this month.
- 53:23Speaker 3: That's been it, all right. This is how I play
- 53:25Speaker 3: Gift or a Curse. I'm going to name three things.
- 53:27Speaker 3: You're going to tell me if there're a gift or
- 53:28Speaker 3: a curse and why? Then I'll tell you if you're
- 53:31Speaker 3: right or wrong, because there are correct answers, and there's
- 53:33Speaker 3: a good chance you'll lose the game if you're not careful.
- 53:36Speaker 3: All right. This first one is from Patreon listener Caitlin
- 53:38Speaker 3: Gift or a Curse, posting a photo of all of
- 53:40Speaker 3: your Christmas gifts.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Curse Why because, like we've seen on so many reality
- 53:48Speaker 2: TV shows, if you show all the stuff you have,
- 53:51Speaker 2: someone will break in and steal them.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Does this happen on a reality show before?
- 53:55Speaker 2: I don't know, like Dori Et you know, we also
- 53:59Speaker 2: saw it recently on Selling Sunset someone broke into Mary's
- 54:03Speaker 2: house and store stuff. So you're you're asking for it
- 54:07Speaker 2: if you're showing like look at all this stuff I have.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Why not someone break in and take it? And it
- 54:12Speaker 2: might be you because you're a louter.
- 54:14Speaker 3: I am a future louder.
- 54:15Speaker 2: You're a future louter. Yeah wrong, Okay.
- 54:20Speaker 3: That's a gift. That's a and you're kind of illustrating
- 54:23Speaker 3: that by you should let me know what you have
- 54:26Speaker 3: in your house. Everyone should know what everyone has in
- 54:28Speaker 3: each other's houses in case you need to take it
- 54:31Speaker 3: or steal it. I don't want to break into a
- 54:34Speaker 3: house with no knowledge of what's in there. Sure, I'm
- 54:37Speaker 3: not just going to break into any strangers. I'm going
- 54:39Speaker 3: to find somebody that trusts me.
- 54:40Speaker 2: You break into my house, you see my dad's paint
- 54:42Speaker 2: by numbers.
- 54:43Speaker 3: No, I want to know what's in your house. I will.
- 54:50Speaker 3: It'll be a friend or a family member. I'll break
- 54:52Speaker 3: into their home. I've seen their Christmas hall on Instagram.
- 54:57Speaker 3: I've got my Santa's bag. We're reverse Santa.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I've never seen anyone post what they've gotten.
- 55:03Speaker 3: I have to imagine I have that feels like something
- 55:05Speaker 3: that's that's some of the someone.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I don't people posting like them and their whole family
- 55:11Speaker 2: all in the matching pajamas.
- 55:14Speaker 3: That's actually a very layered thing because I feel like
- 55:17Speaker 3: there was probably a point when it wasn't done ironically
- 55:20Speaker 3: m and that was fun to look at because it
- 55:22Speaker 3: was like, what's going on in this family?
- 55:24Speaker 2: Sure?
- 55:24Speaker 3: And now but now there's like family, every family trying
- 55:27Speaker 3: to go viral.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Do you remember the Pajama family that was like on YouTube?
- 55:31Speaker 2: I know, but it's so wild to be known as
- 55:34Speaker 2: the pajama family.
- 55:35Speaker 3: It was like this YouTube family that is everything they
- 55:37Speaker 3: ever produced was the worst, just worse and worse and worse.
- 55:40Speaker 3: They were like rapping about I think they did parody
- 55:42Speaker 3: songs about being in pajamas and the holidays. It was excruciated. Yea,
- 55:48Speaker 3: maybe I'll break into their house.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Okay, take their pajamas.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you've gotten one wrong so far, big deal. This
- 55:56Speaker 3: next one is from Patreon listener Alex Gift to a Curse,
- 55:59Speaker 3: low or any other all instrumental versions of hit songs.
- 56:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna say gift why I like that kind of
- 56:08Speaker 2: stuff to write too, Like I like no lyrics, and
- 56:14Speaker 2: now do I write to it? Maybe I've done it once,
- 56:17Speaker 2: but I like the idea of it of like a
- 56:19Speaker 2: low fi no lyrics thing. Is that means I'm realizing
- 56:22Speaker 2: I'd not that. I know.
- 56:24Speaker 3: I don't want to correct listener Alex, but I feel
- 56:26Speaker 3: like unless this is just kind of one of those
- 56:28Speaker 3: words that's now just taken on new meaning, lo Fi,
- 56:31Speaker 3: I would assume is just like the recording is not
- 56:35Speaker 3: as high quality, you know. But I think what Alex
- 56:38Speaker 3: is saying here is just purely instrumental.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Yes, that I like, but bad quality. No, I don't
- 56:44Speaker 2: like that. That's a curse.
- 56:47Speaker 3: But we have to choose one or the other. Okay,
- 56:51Speaker 3: I'll still go with gift. Okay, wrong, Okay, this is
- 56:54Speaker 3: a curse. This for me, I like to hear instrumental music,
- 56:57Speaker 3: but I don't. This is gonna drive me insane because
- 57:00Speaker 3: often it's just me thinking what song is this? What
- 57:03Speaker 3: is the lyric? It's it's something that just is taking
- 57:07Speaker 3: up brain power for me, and I think it's a
- 57:10Speaker 3: waste of everyone.
- 57:11Speaker 2: So you couldn't name that tune?
- 57:13Speaker 3: I'm pretty good at it.
- 57:14Speaker 2: That's a game I hate. And when I when someone
- 57:16Speaker 2: wants to play name that tune, I want to take
- 57:18Speaker 2: out a weapon, like I'm not going to be able
- 57:20Speaker 2: to name a single tune. So I do hear that
- 57:23Speaker 2: that's frustrating.
- 57:25Speaker 3: How do you play? Name that tune? Do you play?
- 57:26Speaker 3: Did they play the actual song or do they play
- 57:28Speaker 3: They did.
- 57:28Speaker 2: It like a wedding shower recently where they only played
- 57:31Speaker 2: a little bit of the instrumental and then everybody had
- 57:34Speaker 2: to kind of write down what the song was. And
- 57:37Speaker 2: I just eventually sat down my pen. I was like,
- 57:39Speaker 2: I'm not I'm like, I can't get a single one.
- 57:42Speaker 2: I don't seem to know what's going on.
- 57:46Speaker 3: I get so competitive, Okay, okay, and I well, I
- 57:50Speaker 3: haven't played it in a long time, but I think
- 57:51Speaker 3: I would be pretty good at it. They did the
- 57:53Speaker 3: whole Jane Krakowski was hosting something like they had it
- 57:56Speaker 3: but they like on the piano, and I don't think
- 57:58Speaker 3: I could do that that way.
- 57:58Speaker 2: I'm going to bring you to a cassine know where
- 58:00Speaker 2: they have named that not casino doesn't exist.
- 58:02Speaker 3: That casino will ruin me. All of my money will
- 58:05Speaker 3: be gone. Oh okay, so you've gone too wrong so
- 58:08Speaker 3: far everyone's rooting against you. This final one is from
- 58:12Speaker 3: Patreon listener Casey Gift or a Cursed Cake with black
- 58:15Speaker 3: slash Dark icing.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Gift Why I like chocolate and I think it'll make
- 58:23Speaker 2: me think that it's gonna be a chocolate cake. I
- 58:27Speaker 2: also I enjoyed the time on the internet that was
- 58:31Speaker 2: is it cake?
- 58:32Speaker 4: Oh?
- 58:32Speaker 3: Sure? Thirty five seconds?
- 58:34Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think it would be cool to wonder
- 58:37Speaker 2: like is this a block of coal or is it
- 58:39Speaker 2: like a cake? So I'm gonna go gift.
- 58:42Speaker 3: No HEMI you've completely lost the game. Wrong, No, no, no,
- 58:48Speaker 3: And this is purely I need a cake just to
- 58:50Speaker 3: be good. I don't need it to look good. I
- 58:53Speaker 3: don't need it to look stylish or interesting. Okay, what
- 58:55Speaker 3: is the black element doing? Just making it look dramatic?
- 58:59Speaker 3: Who cares? And it's like, what are we putting? Is
- 59:02Speaker 3: that ash? What is the thing you ask you question?
- 59:04Speaker 2: I've actually really been wondering what what is red velvet?
- 59:07Speaker 3: Red velvet is a waste of everyone's time. It's a
- 59:10Speaker 3: lot of coke. I mean, it's cocoa, but then a
- 59:12Speaker 3: ton of red dye.
- 59:13Speaker 2: But does it taste Is it supposed to taste like
- 59:14Speaker 2: chocolate cake?
- 59:15Speaker 3: Well?
- 59:16Speaker 2: Is it a different place?
- 59:17Speaker 3: That's a good question, because I think it doesn't taste
- 59:19Speaker 3: enough like chocolate, And yet does something weird to your
- 59:22Speaker 3: brain where you're like, I don't know what this is
- 59:23Speaker 3: supposed to taste like? Is this supposed to take tasting red? Yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 3: and then then it has cream cheese frosting, which I
- 59:29Speaker 3: think is more of the flavor. I'm glad we've put that.
- 59:33Speaker 3: Left that in twenty twelve.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and I haven't seen a lot of
- 59:36Speaker 2: red velvet.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Yeah. Sometime it took over for a period.
- 59:38Speaker 2: Of people were chomping down on red velvet and nobody
- 59:42Speaker 2: it was no one's favorite cake. No, no, it's not
- 59:45Speaker 2: just a ton.
- 59:46Speaker 3: Of red dye.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:47Speaker 3: It feels like something RFK would have a real issue.
- 59:50Speaker 2: I mean, if he could do one useful thing, it's
- 59:53Speaker 2: an outlaw red velvet cake because you and I don't
- 59:57Speaker 2: understand that do one thing that's nice for us.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Well, you got none, correct, and that's fine.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: And what will happen to me?
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: You're just gonna live with that shame? Okay, at it
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: to the pile.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Guilty as shamed, thoughtful talented. That's the acronym I say
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: to my therapist that I think about myself guilty as shamed,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: thoughtful talented. You can definitely take that gat.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Analise now has their own gift or a curse and
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: we're going to speak to this. Analise will name a
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: thing and we each have to say it and then
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: they have their answer. Analise gift or a curse.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: When someone replaces your toilet paper but puts it the
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: wrong side up?
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Do you want to go? Or should I go?
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: You go?
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: I think that's a gift. I don't understand this. I
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: truly don't understand that anyone has a preference about where
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: the toilet paper should which direction it should go. Yeah,
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: I have never noticed, oh this is the wrong way.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: It just doesn't. It's a role and I it can
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: go one or the other way. It's not that confusing. Yeah,
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: So I think it's a gift. I think, ever, anyone
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: that has an issue with this finds something else to
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: complain about.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you think they're all sort of walking curses everyone
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: who has a problem.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Yes, I just think this is it's an invented issue.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Okay, Well you said gift.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: I think it's a gift, and I think that people
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: need to.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Quit complain it the gift because they can find out
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: why they're so uptight. Yeah, and that's a gift to
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: take with them. Right, I'm have to go. Curse, So
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: I can say the opposite from my competitive spirit, and
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: I think it's a curse because how have we not
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five found just a different way of
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: toilet papering, like a different sort of maybe dispenser, a
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: different like less. I don't know. There have been a
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: lot of innovations in a lot of different industries, and
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: toilet paper is one of those that is really I
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: think stayed.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: It's a perfect product.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Oh you think it hasn't because it's perfect, and I
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: think it needs to evolve. I'm not sure what. I
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: don't have any suggestions, but I think some of the
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: greatest minds in our in our world can maybe think
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: about toilet paper. And I know in other countries they
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: do the bidet.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Oh yeah, every other country basically on the planet.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: So maybe that maybe kind of coming back.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Into the United States, I think coming back.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: I think it's used to occur in it.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Or maybe not coming back or finally, I read an
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: article about it recently, like why Americans have a problem
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: with bidets.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: And see, now that's kind of an issue with where
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: journalism is that someone's like I got to read an article.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: On a lease. What do you think it's a curse.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Okay, I'm sorry, it's a curse.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: Cut their mic.
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: Their no, I'm in control now, okay, cut your own mic. So,
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: first of all, there is a correct way. There is
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: a correct way, but that's not that That isn't the
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: issue here. The issue here for me is that if
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: you have the access to my toilet paper and you're
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: replacing it, either you've had to like walk out of
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: the bathroom without pants on and grab toilet paper from
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: my cupboard or something, right, you're like rifling through my thing. Sure,
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: or now you've replaced the toilet Maybe I had toilet
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: paper in the bathroom ready to go like backups, and
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: you've replaced it the wrong way. Now I have more
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: work to do.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: What is the correct way?
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Top?
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: It's on the top.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: Who cares?
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: Do you agree with me that there could be innovation?
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: There should be innovation?
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: I think that you know. I agree in the sense
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: that one. I think that you know it's one of
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: those untapped markets that clearly has more room to grow
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: and to I agree with you just so that I
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: can disagree with Bridger.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: We've got to get something for me to pull the
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: plug in here. Put that on your list anyway. Okay,
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: we need to answer a listener question people are writing
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: in to answer or sending voicemail voice notes to I
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: said no gifts at gmail dot com. The voice note
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: listener has to be sixty seconds or under and has
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: to be in a quiet place. I believe you can
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: do that. What are we going to do? On aali sore?
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: Were listening to a voice note?
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: Hello Bridger and disrespectful guest. My name is Sarah. I'm
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: hoping for some advice. My sibling and I both work
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: in professional theater across the country from each other, and
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: my sibling is about to embark on their first national
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: tour as part of the crew, and the whole family
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: is literally buzzing. I'm so excited for them. I work
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: as a local and wardrobe crew at a theater where
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: touring companies come through, so I know from meeting those
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: folks that most of them don't want to schlep an
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: unnecessary amount of stuff with them from city to city.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: My sibling show is going to be in my area
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: around Christmas, though, so I'm trying to come up with
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: the perfect tour appropriate gift for them. Bridger, I know
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: that Jim is a performer, so you might have some
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: insight into what kinds of experiences or things that a
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: person on tour might want or need. My best thoughts
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: so far is just to take them to a nice
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: dinner while they're in my area. But I'd love to
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: know if you have any better ideas, and I thank
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: you so much.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Love the show by Okay, but an interesting family that everyone's.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's in their genes, it's in the blood to tour.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: They're all running from something, not a not a great family.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: You know, they hate each other. They're all dodging cities
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: and they've got.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: To be on stage or behind the stage, something with
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: wardrobe and.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: Control issues or attention. Sure, sure, interesting And now they're
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: having this confrontation during the holiday.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Beth situation is not the one.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: Where one Macbeth is with the evil wife, right.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: You think about evil wives? Do you think all women
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: in theater are evil? I think women in general are
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: church sure, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: But lady Macbeth is very oh yeah, she's pulling the
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: strings little. But these two siblings are running into each
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: other during the holidays. They probably don't want to. And
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: now this sibling is saying, maybe I'll take the sibling
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: out to burger king, but might want some other ideas.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: What do you give someone who's traveling all the time,
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: who might have to pick up in the middle of
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: the night and.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: Go a boomerang because it always comes back.
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: Some sort of weapon, yes, I think, yeah, maybe the
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: siblings out on the road, the open road, and they
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: might have to defend themselves at some point, some sort
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: of knife, hunting knife, sure, switch blade they can hide
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: in their back pocket.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Actually, now I'm thinking one of those multi.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Tools, like a Swiss Army knife.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Swiss Army knife autho.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: They always have, like a nail clipper and.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: A knife is very gay, isn't it. I'm just getting
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: too that it's like a manicure kid.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Well, in the Boy Scouts in my neighborhood, Boy did
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: they love showing their manicured kids around.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Yeah, we're just we're getting into something there with the
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Swiss army knife. Interesting. You can aisle your nails, you
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: can clip your.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Nails, you can open your sprite.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: You can open your sprite.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, weapon would be nice. A canteen a canteen.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Interesting, you're really picturing this person kind of in a
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Mad Max situation.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: You're just like going like you go on tour, you
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: know when you have those like a stick and then
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: your pillowcase tied and that's.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: Where you'd a bindle.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: That's what that's called.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Somebody needs to disrupt the bindle industry.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, why have we not seen like purses
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: on the on the designer runways as bindle.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: That feels like something that that's an untapped cat.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: I just keep thinking of this, like they're they're touring
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: there on the open.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Road, right, They're like essentially on the back of a Harley. Yeah.
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: And therefore, you know.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: You ever try to run away when you're a kid,
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: and you always got just like down to the end
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: of the street.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah. I would get up the hill and then
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: I would open and then realize I had brought like
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: one cupcake.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: I had to open get to the top of thehill
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: waiting for someone to come find me.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Painting.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Yeah, So without a passive aggressive attention, instead of being
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: like you hurt my feelings, you didn't pay attention to.
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: Me, It's like I'll show, I'll show you.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: And I still do that in my day to day.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Several people think you're missing, right, there's a search party.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Looking for because my students won't answer questions. I'm like,
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: I'm leaving.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: They're like, good, well, yeah, I think a weapon and
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: a bindle that'll get this sibling on a new path certainly.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: Yeah, because you heard the competitive spirit between them, the
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: sibling rivalry, Like the two of us can't be touring
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: theater company people.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: So you're kind of suggesting a knife fight perhaps, interesting,
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: a Christmas knife fight perhaps, Yeah, a succession type sort of.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: I think I could bring them together ultimately. Yeah, Okay,
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: I think that's you've got your question. I don't know
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: what more you could ask for. Do not send any
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: more voice notes to me and tell your sibling they're welcome.
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: We answered the question perfectly.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Of course.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: I now have this gorgeous piece of art you are
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: just throwing away. Larry did such a great trip.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: I wish that he had signed it.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: I have a Larry Silverberg sort of original.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: And the next time I see you, I will be
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: giving you a book to read. Okay, I'll get a book,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: maybe two, maybe some poker chips.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: Poker chips. While you're enriching my life in a way
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: that no one else has ever done.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: I want you to be coming to Jenner Gambler.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: Good luck, yeah, yeah, well, thank you for being here,
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: thank you for having me listener. The podcast is over.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I have I think I've said everything I need to
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: say to you for today, So get moving. I love you, goodbye.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: I said, No Gifts is an exactly right production. Our
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: senior producer is on Alisa Nelson, and our episodes are
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: beautifully mixed by Ben Tolladay. The theme song is by
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: miracle Worker Amy Man, and we couldn't do it without
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: our booker, Patrick Cottner. You must follow the show on
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: Instagram at I said no Gifts, That's where you're going
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: to see pictures of all these wonderful gifts I'm getting.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: And don't you want to see the gifts?
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: The lie in why did you hear?
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Thought? I made myself perfectly clear. But you're a guest
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: to me. You gotta come to me empty, And I said,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: no guests, you're our presences, presents enough I already had
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: too much stuff, So how do you dare to surbey
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: me
