- 2:44Speaker 1: big shout out to hip Hop dx dot com, All
- 2:47Speaker 1: hip Hop dot com, Double XL mag and a couple
- 2:50Speaker 1: of places where I get my stories from. Let's get
- 2:52Speaker 1: right into the business. So, if you have been living
- 2:57Speaker 1: under a rock, Lil Wayne the super Bowl thing, we know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: he said he's not interested, we weren't interested. Let's just
- 3:05Speaker 1: keep it at that. But what we are interested in
- 3:08Speaker 1: is another sequel to Lil Wayne's Carter series. Now, honestly,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I feel like this should be the last one, because
- 3:17Speaker 1: there must be a reason why he is now up
- 3:20Speaker 1: to six installments within the Carter series, and honestly, they're
- 3:28Speaker 1: not all good, right, Like one to three is solid, right,
- 3:32Speaker 1: you know, even some would even call at least two
- 3:35Speaker 1: and three classics. Four was cool, but yeah, it felt
- 3:42Speaker 1: like things fell off a little bit. Five was also like,
- 3:46Speaker 1: probably less exciting. While Lil Wayne has released the track
- 3:51Speaker 1: listing for the Car to six, which I believe is
- 3:54Speaker 1: due out in June of twenty twenty five, that's this year.
- 3:58Speaker 1: If you're from the future, twenty twenty eight, he's probably
- 4:01Speaker 1: already on the Car at ten. Right, Relax, But with
- 4:06Speaker 1: that being said, let me just make sure. Hold up,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I don't even have the link available. What am I
- 4:14Speaker 1: doing with a minute? Something ain't right here. Let's do
- 4:17Speaker 1: this live on the spot. Because he released the track list,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but he also has the features that will appear on
- 4:28Speaker 1: the album, which kind of scares me a little bit.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna front because we just we're just
- 4:34Speaker 1: in an age of hip hop where features tend to
- 4:39Speaker 1: dominate every project and though sometimes I like the collaborations
- 4:44Speaker 1: and don't mind them, like are we just getting lazy
- 4:48Speaker 1: in hip hop? Like with multiple sequels, like with what
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm about to talk about now, as far as the feature,
- 4:57Speaker 1: So here's the track list and let's see if we
- 5:00Speaker 1: just get to that. He posted this on well, actually
- 5:06Speaker 1: this is Roland Stones. I guess he got the cover
- 5:09Speaker 1: the No, that's something else where the hell is the
- 5:14Speaker 1: track listing? This is? This is? This is not good.
- 5:19Speaker 1: This came via interview, I believe, but so he didn't
- 5:24Speaker 1: really reveal a straight up track listing, but he did
- 5:28Speaker 1: talk about some things. So this is coming from the
- 5:30Speaker 1: cover story of Rolling Stones and this is on hip
- 5:35Speaker 1: Hop dx dot com where I'm getting this. Weezy confirms
- 5:38Speaker 1: a number of high profile and in some cases unlikely
- 5:42Speaker 1: guessed on his next he card of six, including Miley Cyrus,
- 5:48Speaker 1: YouTube's Bono and opera singer Andrea Bocelli. I believe that's
- 5:54Speaker 1: how you pronounced that. The project, due out June six,
- 5:57Speaker 1: also features Machine Gun, Kelly Dance, Whole Legend, Elephant Man
- 6:02Speaker 1: or Word, and Wayne's fifteen year old son Cameron behind
- 6:07Speaker 1: the boards. The lineup of producers include Ye Cleft, Jean Weezy,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and possibly Kanye West. How y'all leave your comments in
- 6:20Speaker 1: a comments section below. How do y'all feel about that
- 6:23Speaker 1: lineup of performers and producers. I'll go first. I am
- 6:34Speaker 1: y'a'll usually use the term like cautiously optimistic. I am
- 6:38Speaker 1: not optimistic at all because I just don't know where
- 6:43Speaker 1: this can go now. Lil Wayne performing, as you have
- 6:48Speaker 1: seen has mostly been a disaster, right because he just
- 6:51Speaker 1: like the last thing we saw, he looked like he
- 6:53Speaker 1: was so high on stage. He was in the stupor,
- 6:56Speaker 1: which is crazy. But when when it comes to the
- 7:00Speaker 1: singles and the music he releases, they don't typically sound
- 7:04Speaker 1: bad to me. It's just funny that people don't really
- 7:08Speaker 1: flock to it. And maybe they'll do that this time
- 7:11Speaker 1: because people chose the side. Like you know, y'all'm riding
- 7:15Speaker 1: with Wayne. He should have had the Super Bowl, Okay,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I like Kendrick I like Wayne, I'm checking out both
- 7:23Speaker 1: and maybe he has something to prove. But at the
- 7:27Speaker 1: same time, let me just say this, and also, that
- 7:31Speaker 1: was advocate. I didn't think I would like jelly Roll
- 7:37Speaker 1: on the Snoop and Dre album that released not that
- 7:40Speaker 1: long ago. I was like, Uh, that sounds like it's
- 7:44Speaker 1: something I'm not going to like, And I was kind
- 7:47Speaker 1: of wrong. I enjoyed it. Right now, did I go crazy?
- 7:51Speaker 1: You know? Do I want to hear more from that collaboration.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I do not, But for what it was and the
- 7:57Speaker 1: collaboration it was, and I think it had a lot
- 7:59Speaker 1: to do with Doctor, I think it was cool, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: with Lil Wayne, I'm hoping, you know, Miley Cyrus is
- 8:07Speaker 1: used in a way that sounds dope. You know, Bono
- 8:11Speaker 1: from YouTube. I was gonna say YouTube from YouTube. I
- 8:16Speaker 1: feel like, I hope he's used in a way that's
- 8:19Speaker 1: beneficial to the track. Right But I just kind of
- 8:22Speaker 1: want Wayne to to go in lyrically, you know what
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm saying. Musically, I want the beats to be like
- 8:31Speaker 1: hardcore rapping. You know, I don't mind a couple of
- 8:34Speaker 1: songs for the radio as long as they're not so cheesy.
- 8:37Speaker 1: That stupid deduction Wise, I don't know what a y
- 8:43Speaker 1: cleft beat sounds like in twenty twenty five, and who knows.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Maybe I've heard songs where why Clef did the production,
- 8:50Speaker 1: but I didn't know he did the production, so I
- 8:54Speaker 1: don't know. And Kanye, I at least say this as long
- 8:57Speaker 1: as he's not rapping because of things he likes to
- 9:00Speaker 1: say in his raps to try to push people to
- 9:03Speaker 1: the edge of not liking him for whatever reason. But
- 9:07Speaker 1: production wise, he's still there. I'm sorry. Production Wise, every
- 9:12Speaker 1: time I hear a beat, I'll be like, well, I
- 9:15Speaker 1: like to beat, but then I usually don't like his versus,
- 9:19Speaker 1: so we'll see. And honestly, before I've read this, I
- 9:22Speaker 1: was assuming there would be more in line as far
- 9:27Speaker 1: as features in line of like more hip hop artists basically,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and not that everything has to be that, because unfortunately
- 9:37Speaker 1: that seems to be what everybody else does. So maybe
- 9:40Speaker 1: these features again are well placed and utilized in ways
- 9:44Speaker 1: that they compliment what he's already created. I'm just hoping
- 9:48Speaker 1: is dope and I will review it on his channel
- 9:51Speaker 1: and I'll let you know is one of the best
- 9:53Speaker 1: albums of the year, Yes, or no, we shall see.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So huge announcement happen this week for the old heads,
- 10:05Speaker 1: for the kids who respect the old school of hip hop.
- 10:11Speaker 1: We're mostly talking nineties and some eighties here. Also for
- 10:16Speaker 1: mass Appel Records announced campaign a rollout of seven albums
- 10:22Speaker 1: from seven hip hop legends now. One of those albums
- 10:26Speaker 1: includes the nas And premiere album, which is highly anticipated,
- 10:32Speaker 1: probably the most anticipated of this lineup. But this lineup
- 10:38Speaker 1: also includes Dayla Soul, a solo Ray Kuon album, a
- 10:43Speaker 1: solo ghost Face album, a Mob Deep album, a Dayla
- 10:50Speaker 1: Soul album, and an album from Big Al and what
- 10:58Speaker 1: they say and maybe it's out now, but as far
- 11:03Speaker 1: as the news is out now, if the album's out now,
- 11:05Speaker 1: that'd be great too. But a special guest, and I
- 11:09Speaker 1: think we've already figured it out that it was slick Rick.
- 11:12Speaker 1: At first, I got caught off guard because I was like, oh, well,
- 11:15Speaker 1: if they rolling out the red carpet after saying that
- 11:18Speaker 1: list of names, maybe it's rock Kim, because I knew
- 11:21Speaker 1: rock Kim had mentioned I think last year that he
- 11:25Speaker 1: had another, like a straight up real solo album dropping
- 11:30Speaker 1: like that he was working on. So I was assuming,
- 11:33Speaker 1: thinking like that would be crazy, but just as crazy.
- 11:37Speaker 1: The legend he's referring to is slick Rack, and slick
- 11:40Speaker 1: Rick hasn't had an album since the Art of Storytelling.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And if I'm not mistaken, that was nineteen ninety nine,
- 11:52Speaker 1: So that is a big announcement considering that's more than
- 11:59Speaker 1: twenty years I believe, right, Yeah, that's more than twenty
- 12:03Speaker 1: years ago. So I'll be curious and I'll say this,
- 12:07Speaker 1: slick Rick only has four official albums in his catalog.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think it's his debut, right, Great Adventures to slick Rick.
- 12:21Speaker 1: The second one, The Ruler's Back. I believe that's the
- 12:25Speaker 1: name of that one. Behind Bars. Now, those three albums
- 12:30Speaker 1: kind of came out around the time he was in jail,
- 12:32Speaker 1: but obviously his debut he worked on to a t.
- 12:36Speaker 1: The Ruler's Back was kind of like some album that
- 12:40Speaker 1: was being worked on, but he wasn't there for the
- 12:43Speaker 1: entire production of it, and Behind Bars was clearly he
- 12:47Speaker 1: just wasn't. We got some other songs and he's not here.
- 12:51Speaker 1: And then there's nineteen ninety Nine's The Art of Storytelling.
- 12:54Speaker 1: When he was free, he was out, and he got
- 12:56Speaker 1: a nice boost from collaborating with Outcast and it was
- 13:01Speaker 1: a pretty good album. And what I'm basically saying is
- 13:04Speaker 1: with those four albums, I really only feel like one
- 13:06Speaker 1: of them are whack, and it was the one he
- 13:09Speaker 1: was in jail, behind bars when they dropped. So I'm
- 13:13Speaker 1: kind of optimistic because some may say, well, what's the
- 13:18Speaker 1: last thing he'd done on the track to make you
- 13:20Speaker 1: think he's still that guy from even ninety nine. Well,
- 13:24Speaker 1: a couple of years ago he did a song with
- 13:28Speaker 1: Most Death aka I Sen Bay on his album I'm
- 13:33Speaker 1: blanking on the name, but the joint with the red
- 13:35Speaker 1: cover and I believe the name of the song was
- 13:39Speaker 1: Auditorium something like that. But Slick Rick's verse on that
- 13:43Speaker 1: Most Deaf album was a clear standout for me of
- 13:47Speaker 1: oh he still got it, and more than that, his
- 13:51Speaker 1: style of rapping and storytelling it's still worth listening to.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It doesn't sound dam They're like, oh, here he go,
- 14:01Speaker 1: he's still doing that thing. Like nah, it works today,
- 14:05Speaker 1: so we're hoping for more. Now, let me just really
- 14:10Speaker 1: quick go through my thoughts on some of those releases
- 14:15Speaker 1: and how I feel as a hip hop fan and
- 14:17Speaker 1: a fan of literally everybody they talked about. Na's the
- 14:22Speaker 1: premier obviously, highly anticipated, cautiously anticipating a very good project, right,
- 14:33Speaker 1: And that has more to do with the production, which
- 14:36Speaker 1: sounds weird. But Premier's production can sometimes be very predictable nowadays,
- 14:43Speaker 1: like he just goes for a certain mode. Some people say, hey,
- 14:47Speaker 1: but that's his signature sound. Maybe he wasn't here for
- 14:50Speaker 1: the game Star days. The only thing that was signature
- 14:54Speaker 1: for Premier on the beats was him scratching the name
- 14:58Speaker 1: of the song or scratch the name of the artists.
- 15:01Speaker 1: That was predictable. But you go listen to albums like
- 15:05Speaker 1: Hard to Earn a Moment of truth. He got a
- 15:09Speaker 1: variety of beats and they're all crazy. So I'm kind
- 15:12Speaker 1: of hoping for that variety to return as opposed to
- 15:17Speaker 1: the same things he's been doing when he's produced a
- 15:20Speaker 1: song here and there. So we'll see day La Soul now.
- 15:25Speaker 1: The rumor is the day Lat Soul album is an
- 15:28Speaker 1: album that day La Soul was working on in the
- 15:31Speaker 1: past that I believe was produced by Pete Rock and
- 15:36Speaker 1: large Professor. If it's that album, which does feature Rest
- 15:43Speaker 1: in Peace Dave truegoing from day La Soul on it,
- 15:49Speaker 1: this means this would be like a Lost Day Last
- 15:52Speaker 1: soul album that Mass Appeal is now bringing to the masses,
- 15:57Speaker 1: which would be crazy, especially if it's it would be crazy.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Mob Deep. We've talked about that Mob Deep album. We
- 16:06Speaker 1: know that havocs working on a production. Alchemist is helping
- 16:10Speaker 1: out with the production. We believe Nas is featured on
- 16:14Speaker 1: that album. Nos could potentially be featured on all these albums,
- 16:17Speaker 1: which would kind of be weird, you know, because it's
- 16:19Speaker 1: his label to have them on all of them, you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: but some of them it makes sense. And having talked
- 16:28Speaker 1: about having Prodigy versus that they could work with now,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I hope when he says this, these are complete verses,
- 16:38Speaker 1: and you know, I could if hooks need to be worked,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I get it. But I hope this is complete versus
- 16:45Speaker 1: from Prodigy lost versus from you know, the past, mixed
- 16:49Speaker 1: with some more current versus. I'm cautiously optimistic is an
- 16:58Speaker 1: understatement with that album, because I am not. I am
- 17:04Speaker 1: not very excited. I want to be and I want
- 17:07Speaker 1: it to happen, you know, as I guess the last
- 17:10Speaker 1: of my Deep albums. But I just don't know what
- 17:14Speaker 1: we're gonna get. And I believe they played a snippet
- 17:17Speaker 1: at a show, and it sounded cool, but I couldn't
- 17:23Speaker 1: really hear it, and I couldn't really get the vibe
- 17:26Speaker 1: of what was happening. So I don't know. We'll see.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We know for a fact it's coming out this year.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Who else Ray Kwan? Now I'm a little disappointed because
- 17:39Speaker 1: I remember he did an interview during the Lockdown with
- 17:43Speaker 1: ninety seven and he announced Cuban Links the only Built
- 17:49Speaker 1: for Cuban Links three is in the works. That was
- 17:52Speaker 1: twenty twenty five years ago. What makes me a little like,
- 18:00Speaker 1: come on, man is the fact that Ray Kwan himself
- 18:06Speaker 1: says this album is called like the Empress Close, which
- 18:10Speaker 1: means it is not Cuban Link three, which makes me
- 18:14Speaker 1: feel like I don't know, because I'll tell you about this.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I did a tearless on Ray Kwan's catalog, and he
- 18:21Speaker 1: has more dope albums than not, but he has kind
- 18:26Speaker 1: of this, He kind of developed this hot cold hot
- 18:30Speaker 1: cold hot cold thing with his albums, right like, obviously,
- 18:35Speaker 1: only Built for Cuban Links is a classic. He drops
- 18:39Speaker 1: a mobilarity, it's his whack album hands down in his catalog,
- 18:44Speaker 1: But then he comes back with like the Lex Diamond Story,
- 18:47Speaker 1: which I thought was a good album, and then he
- 18:49Speaker 1: came back with Cuban Links two, which I felt like
- 18:52Speaker 1: was a great album, and he was on a streak
- 18:55Speaker 1: after that with another dope album, but then it dropped
- 18:59Speaker 1: down again with Like Fly International. It just I don't
- 19:04Speaker 1: know what to expect from Ray Kwan, And though like
- 19:07Speaker 1: I said, he has mostly good albums, I'm assuming this
- 19:11Speaker 1: would be another good album, but I don't know. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: don't know who's doing the production. I don't know if
- 19:15Speaker 1: it's gonna be crazy. I don't know. Same goals for
- 19:19Speaker 1: ghost Face, who just released an album that most ghost
- 19:24Speaker 1: Face fans passed on because they just didn't like it.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Me I was in that same boat. Some of it
- 19:32Speaker 1: has to do with something that, you know, ghost Face
- 19:34Speaker 1: can't really he can't really help write. His voice is
- 19:40Speaker 1: a little bit more gruff, and I don't know if
- 19:42Speaker 1: that's a delivery choice, but it's not the ghost that
- 19:48Speaker 1: like automatically locks me in when I hear the ghost
- 19:51Speaker 1: for you know what I'm talking about, Seanda and she
- 19:53Speaker 1: in a barber shop looking for all the Blue like
- 19:56Speaker 1: that one. Like before there was West Side Gun, there
- 19:59Speaker 1: was ghost right, and even though his voice is not
- 20:03Speaker 1: similar it was more high pitched and hype, you know,
- 20:07Speaker 1: splatic gas like I like that Ghost, but the gruff
- 20:11Speaker 1: voice Ghost is just one that it just doesn't do
- 20:14Speaker 1: it for me. And ironically, Bars he performed like a
- 20:20Speaker 1: one of them freestyle joints. I forget where, but that
- 20:26Speaker 1: joint was like going viral and people were spreading everywhere
- 20:29Speaker 1: and they like, this's the Ghosts we want to hear.
- 20:31Speaker 1: But what's so crazy was he was performing a song
- 20:34Speaker 1: on his last album that sounds the same. That's what
- 20:39Speaker 1: he was doing there, but people were dismissive of it.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So is that last album on master pil secretly great?
- 20:45Speaker 1: It is not. The second half falls off a cliff.
- 20:51Speaker 1: But I'm optimistic because I think ghost Face knows that
- 20:55Speaker 1: he I think he knows people weren't big on that
- 20:59Speaker 1: album and considering and I would think this for everybody involved,
- 21:06Speaker 1: considering the lineup and everybody gets to take their shot
- 21:12Speaker 1: at releasing a dope album. You would think people want
- 21:16Speaker 1: to have one of the dopest albums, like ghost Faces
- 21:19Speaker 1: would want to be like, my joint's crazy? Who else?
- 21:23Speaker 1: So we don't stay too long on this, So we
- 21:26Speaker 1: said mob deep they are so obviously with that, I'm
- 21:32Speaker 1: excited for, like what it's going to be na as
- 21:37Speaker 1: the premier ghost ray. So Big L. Apparently I read
- 21:44Speaker 1: the description where they said the Big L album will feature,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you know, stuff he was working on, and they got
- 21:52Speaker 1: some other things like just they didn't get too into detail,
- 21:55Speaker 1: but stuff we never heard before along with and this
- 22:00Speaker 1: is what they said, re releasing a lot of rare
- 22:03Speaker 1: freestyles and projects, probably his debut and the joint the
- 22:09Speaker 1: Big Picture, probably in a bigger and better way with
- 22:12Speaker 1: some bonuses. So I think that's though Honestly, the fact
- 22:19Speaker 1: that they're saying a new Big L album probably scares
- 22:22Speaker 1: me more than just giving us a better sounding version
- 22:26Speaker 1: than the albums he did release with, you know, like
- 22:29Speaker 1: a deluxe version of that, like the deluxe of I
- 22:34Speaker 1: was gonna say, the Big L, what's the code again?
- 22:37Speaker 1: I forgot that quick. I'm getting old. Yeah, I'm sorry,
- 22:40Speaker 1: But the Bigger Picture, I wouldn't mind that, right, Like,
- 22:46Speaker 1: if you release a deluxe version and it's like ten
- 22:50Speaker 1: more tracks on it, I'll take it, you know, because
- 22:53Speaker 1: it's just the Bigger Picture is just if that's the title,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I think that's it. But it's just a dope variety
- 23:01Speaker 1: of big l stuff, and to me, when you do
- 23:05Speaker 1: posthumous albums that you gotta plug in features for the
- 23:09Speaker 1: bigger picture. Was one of the better ones that did
- 23:12Speaker 1: that because it was some unexpected guest features like Big
- 23:16Speaker 1: Daddy Came. But then Big Daddy Came's verse was kind
- 23:18Speaker 1: of crazy too, and I was like, this album is alright,
- 23:23Speaker 1: so we'll see. And the last one, like I said,
- 23:26Speaker 1: slick Rick all these years, I'm absolutely interested in what
- 23:33Speaker 1: that would sound like. Now. What I don't want. I
- 23:36Speaker 1: don't want slick Rick to collab with everybody. I also
- 23:42Speaker 1: don't want and this is no shade towards any legends.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I don't want him to pull out all stops for legends.
- 23:49Speaker 1: The only legend I request on this album is Dougie Fresh.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I don't care what y'all say. Let Dougie Fresh get
- 23:59Speaker 1: on the beat box or mixed the beatbox with another
- 24:02Speaker 1: beat Let them let the get Fresh crew reunite on
- 24:07Speaker 1: this album. Doesn't have to be the old album. But
- 24:10Speaker 1: I don't want to hear guys who I think are dope,
- 24:14Speaker 1: who I also think shouldn't be on a Slick Rick
- 24:16Speaker 1: album because they jump don't fit. Now Part of me
- 24:19Speaker 1: would say, I don't think I would have thought that
- 24:23Speaker 1: the outcast collab seem out of place, because I don't
- 24:27Speaker 1: really look at outcasts like ultimate storytellers. They told stories,
- 24:32Speaker 1: and they've told some dope stories. But it'd be different
- 24:35Speaker 1: if he was linking up with somebody who was also
- 24:39Speaker 1: a well known storyteller, right, Like I don't know, like
- 24:43Speaker 1: ice Cube, right, I know he's a older cat, but
- 24:47Speaker 1: he's known for telling stories, and it would be dope.
- 24:50Speaker 1: If they literally collaborated on a story but played characters
- 24:55Speaker 1: in slick rick fashion, that would be all how about this?
- 24:59Speaker 1: I am getting? How about this? Nas is pretty good
- 25:02Speaker 1: at that. Also, he got a couple of joints storytelling.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You get some of the at least four, let's say,
- 25:12Speaker 1: well known for having great stories in a catalog. I'm
- 25:16Speaker 1: not talking about the one time LF did it or
- 25:19Speaker 1: the one time this one did it. I mean, like
- 25:21Speaker 1: you know them for it, right, Like Devin, the dude
- 25:24Speaker 1: you could throw. You can put him a slick work
- 25:27Speaker 1: on the track and I will be ooh, I will
- 25:29Speaker 1: be happy because I know it's gonna be funny, you
- 25:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So I don't know, but that's
- 25:36Speaker 1: what I think. What do you think about this Master
- 25:38Speaker 1: Appeal rollout in twenty twenty five from seven legends. Are
- 25:43Speaker 1: you excited at the prospect of all of these being
- 25:47Speaker 1: dope or do you feel like it could be a
- 25:51Speaker 1: hit of this type situation. Leave your comments in a
- 25:54Speaker 1: comments section below. I read them, I like them, I
- 25:57Speaker 1: pin them, I respond to them. And lastly, so since
- 26:03Speaker 1: we've been talking about sequels on here, one of the
- 26:08Speaker 1: sequels that just dropped for what some would call a
- 26:14Speaker 1: younger generation, but there's a generation younger than them, to
- 26:17Speaker 1: be like, they ain't young, they old school, so you're
- 26:20Speaker 1: just older. I'm including myself and don't call me young.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I ain't your uncle, okay, but I like og I'm
- 26:29Speaker 1: not a gangster, but I like that old generation. I
- 26:32Speaker 1: don't know whis Khalifa dropped the sequel to his wildly popular,
- 26:42Speaker 1: celebrated probably close to fifteen years old, something like that,
- 26:51Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more cush In Orange Juice and
- 26:56Speaker 1: obviously this is cush In Orange Juice two. The album
- 27:01Speaker 1: in total has twenty three songs and the total runtime
- 27:06Speaker 1: is one hour and sixteen minutes. Features include Smoke, Dizzer,
- 27:13Speaker 1: of course, Don Tolliver rm R. I don't know who
- 27:18Speaker 1: that is. Chevy Woods, he's dope. Larry June of course,
- 27:21Speaker 1: ju CJ Max B. Now this is an interlude, but
- 27:27Speaker 1: that's crazy. L Russell's on here, Todd Dollason is on here,
- 27:33Speaker 1: Jason Martin gunna ot Genesis. I don't think oh, I
- 27:38Speaker 1: was looking for him. Terrace Martin's is on here, and
- 27:41Speaker 1: so is Currency. That's what I was looking for, like
- 27:43Speaker 1: he got to be on this joint. For those who
- 27:48Speaker 1: may be new to this podcast, reviews work like this.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Three listens. One time, just get full impressions, just no expectations,
- 27:59Speaker 1: just let it rock, just play it. Second listen now
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna listen more intently to what the goal was hit,
- 28:07Speaker 1: as far as the beats, the rhyms, the entire album aesthetic.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Sometimes the album cover, which I believe is cover of
- 28:15Speaker 1: Earth with like weed growing out of it, which is
- 28:18Speaker 1: like okay, And my third listen is just really to
- 28:22Speaker 1: confirm my thoughts. For those who don't like too much
- 28:27Speaker 1: detail and just kind of want to get to like
- 28:29Speaker 1: how you rate it, I'd say I like it. I
- 28:34Speaker 1: like it now as a sequel to the original, I
- 28:39Speaker 1: think it's a perfect sequel. And here's the thing. When
- 28:45Speaker 1: you are making a sequel to a highly regarded album,
- 28:50Speaker 1: right like Illmatic or Only Built for Cuba Links, you
- 28:53Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, And you're saying, this is part two,
- 28:55Speaker 1: Like Do or Die Too, It's a slippery slow because
- 29:01Speaker 1: expectations get high because of how people love that original release.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But I think what most rappers should do, and some
- 29:11Speaker 1: have to success is release a project that expands upon
- 29:18Speaker 1: that concept. It's not better than it's like getting more
- 29:24Speaker 1: songs based off of that original, right, So never look
- 29:29Speaker 1: at it as is it better? Is it the same? No,
- 29:33Speaker 1: it's just more right. That's when you really lock people in. Yo,
- 29:37Speaker 1: I like it for this time, and that's how I
- 29:39Speaker 1: feel with this album. I feel like the expectations for
- 29:44Speaker 1: you if you never heard the original, I definitely think
- 29:47Speaker 1: you should check it out first. Let it rock until
- 29:50Speaker 1: you know you've had your feel of it, because you
- 29:53Speaker 1: might love it and not like this, but it captures
- 29:58Speaker 1: the same exact vibe. Right, we talk mellow beats, chill stuff,
- 30:06Speaker 1: you know, jewelry, sun beaches, you know, palm trees, Like
- 30:13Speaker 1: just chilling is the perfect album to release in spring,
- 30:19Speaker 1: heading into summer, because a lot of people make playlists
- 30:23Speaker 1: in this day and age, and they kind of look
- 30:25Speaker 1: for certain vibes for when they're driving, or they're chilling
- 30:28Speaker 1: on a beach somewhere, or they're having a drink or
- 30:30Speaker 1: they throwing a party, and this album has a number
- 30:34Speaker 1: of songs that are perfect for that vibe. Now, some
- 30:37Speaker 1: people say, yo, I don't buy music to be like
- 30:42Speaker 1: ambient sound in my house while I'm having like a
- 30:44Speaker 1: dinner party. I want to listen to her. I want
- 30:48Speaker 1: to get into the lyrics. I want to vibe with it.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I want to relate to it. I think some people
- 30:56Speaker 1: take put it this way, people saying being relatable music
- 31:00Speaker 1: being relatable sometimes can be very overrated because your definition
- 31:06Speaker 1: of it is strictly a portion of it, which is,
- 31:10Speaker 1: you know, I've this is the type of music I like,
- 31:15Speaker 1: whereas relatable really means I can relate to doing that.
- 31:20Speaker 1: And there's a lot of people, for example, who may say, well,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I can't relate to Eminem's lyrics, but I don't think
- 31:28Speaker 1: Eminem's lyrics are made to be relatable unless you are
- 31:32Speaker 1: a psycho. But they're in the same breath. They'll say,
- 31:37Speaker 1: push your team but unless you sow the most coked
- 31:41Speaker 1: of all time, you can't relate to him either. So
- 31:45Speaker 1: it's more about preference. What do you want to hear
- 31:50Speaker 1: when it's time to sit down listen to hip hop?
- 31:52Speaker 1: Some people don't want to hear all that quirky stuff,
- 31:54Speaker 1: Eminem saying, some people don't want to hear nothing, but
- 31:57Speaker 1: we talk from somebody like whisky. But some people really
- 32:03Speaker 1: like the vibe of certain things, right, or they like
- 32:07Speaker 1: the variety in hip hop, and they say, hey, when
- 32:09Speaker 1: I want to laugh or be like damn, I might
- 32:13Speaker 1: listen to Eminem. Right. When I want to cool out,
- 32:17Speaker 1: smoke or eye, I'll listen to something like Whisker Leaf
- 32:20Speaker 1: or Currency. So I think this album in general, it
- 32:26Speaker 1: is a worthy sequel to the first Cush and Orange Juice.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I don't think it's better than it, but I think
- 32:34Speaker 1: this album is definitely one of the better albums of
- 32:38Speaker 1: the year so far because it's focused. It knows what
- 32:42Speaker 1: it is, and you should know what it is before
- 32:45Speaker 1: you go in and listen to it. Because again, a
- 32:48Speaker 1: lot of people want some new hip hop but don't
- 32:51Speaker 1: really take a step back as it relates to their
- 32:54Speaker 1: taste to say what exactly do I want to hear
- 32:58Speaker 1: like when I just want to hear like I just
- 33:00Speaker 1: want to hear gun bars all day. I'm Griselda to death.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I might get into some locks if I'm like, Yo,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I just want to hear somebody talk about coke and
- 33:10Speaker 1: lavish likes. Okay, I'm gonna listen to I'm gonna listen
- 33:14Speaker 1: to Push your Tea. I'm gonna listen to Rick Ross.
- 33:17Speaker 1: You know, if I want to hear somebody, you know,
- 33:19Speaker 1: I just want to hear some something cool currency Wits Khalifa,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and I believe this album. If you like that kind
- 33:28Speaker 1: of stuff, it's worth checking out. Now it's a long album,
- 33:32Speaker 1: like it's an hour and sixteen minutes, But if you
- 33:35Speaker 1: have the time, and you know who knows you cleaning
- 33:38Speaker 1: up your house, cleaning up the yard for the summertime,
- 33:41Speaker 1: you got a decent drive somewhere, it's worth checking out.
- 33:46Speaker 1: So what do you think about Wits khalif a sequel
- 33:50Speaker 1: to Cush and Orange Juice Cushing, Orange Juice, car Food.
