Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Football at Four: What are the Expectations for the Eagles Passing Game this Season?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher from the Inside of the Birds podcast is here.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I got a lot of Eagles stuff, with a lot
- 0:05Speaker 1: of football stuff today, got into a good conversation of
- 0:10Speaker 1: the Eagles. That's take on it. So I was bringing
- 0:13Speaker 1: up the conversation regarding Jalen Hurts and yesterday, you know,
- 0:18Speaker 1: we were talking about Adam Schefter saying that the Eagles
- 0:23Speaker 1: could be training AJ Brown and it's for a twenty
- 0:25Speaker 1: twenty eight first round pick. So that kind of was like, Okay,
- 0:29Speaker 1: you're getting to pick two years from now, So I
- 0:32Speaker 1: want to get your take on this. Jeff Moscher, one,
- 0:36Speaker 1: are they like using this year to analyze whether or
- 0:40Speaker 1: not Jalen Hurts is the right guy for this offense
- 0:46Speaker 1: and judging him based on this particular season to say, hey,
- 0:51Speaker 1: we're gonna make it. This year is about learning about
- 0:53Speaker 1: whether or not you are capable to run this offense.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Forget everything else that goes on. It's about finding out
- 1:00Speaker 1: about whether you're the right guy to run this offense.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I mean, I'll answer that independent of the AJ Brown
- 1:07Speaker 2: twenty twenty eight for because I get where you're going
- 1:10Speaker 2: with it.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But you're not getting anything help. You're not getting anything
- 1:13Speaker 1: to replace aj Brown. So this offense is basically this
- 1:16Speaker 1: is what our offense is, Jalen. We want to find
- 1:19Speaker 1: out whether or not you can run the offense or not.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I mean, wouldn't you say that that's yeah. I mean
- 1:25Speaker 2: you're bringing in a new offensive coordinator, You're ushering in
- 1:27Speaker 2: a new offense, You've changed the personnel offensively. You know,
- 1:31Speaker 2: Adam and I are knee deep into a great podcast
- 1:34Speaker 2: series right now on Inside the Birds looking at the
- 1:37Speaker 2: depth chart, and if you go look at the depth
- 1:39Speaker 2: chart at wide receiver, at tight end, there's gonna be
- 1:42Speaker 2: a lot of new names, which means a lot of
- 1:44Speaker 2: new packages, a lot of new formations, a lot of
- 1:47Speaker 2: different play calls because of it's a different style of offense.
- 1:51Speaker 2: So they've made their end of the bargain the Eagles
- 1:55Speaker 2: as far as saying no more of the old stuff.
- 1:58Speaker 2: We're gonna give this all defensive facelift. We're gonna get
- 2:01Speaker 2: the guy that we think can bring that facelift, and
- 2:03Speaker 2: then we're gonna get the personnel that can make these
- 2:07Speaker 2: plays happen, and then that fits what we want to
- 2:10Speaker 2: do offensively. And to your point, Jalen Hurts, does enter,
- 2:15Speaker 2: I don't want to say it doesn't enter the last
- 2:17Speaker 2: year of his contract, but after this year, the guaranteed
- 2:19Speaker 2: money on the contract is much more negligible than it
- 2:23Speaker 2: would be if it was entering last year or this year.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So yeah, there'll be a decision made in some form
- 2:29Speaker 2: or fashion about his contract after this year. And that's
- 2:32Speaker 2: either he's probably gonna get it ripped up and againt
- 2:34Speaker 2: a new one, or he's not, and then it might
- 2:36Speaker 2: be a change.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Right. So I asked the question in that capacity for
- 2:40Speaker 1: multitude of reasons, the first one being so a couple
- 2:44Speaker 1: of years ago they were able to pivot their philosophy.
- 2:50Speaker 1: We're gonna run the ball and use the offensive line. So,
- 2:54Speaker 1: in other words, if this offense doesn't work, do they
- 2:59Speaker 1: have a pivot? Is there? Because before they had Jeff
- 3:03Speaker 1: Statlin in this line and they ran the ball, so
- 3:07Speaker 1: they were able to pivot to that. They're putting all
- 3:09Speaker 1: their chips into this, and this is almost like you
- 3:11Speaker 1: better sink or swim, Jalen hurts, because we don't have
- 3:14Speaker 1: another way to kind of pivot if you do not succeed.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm laughing because I feel I understand the absolute
- 3:23Speaker 2: genesis of your question, and but I do feel like
- 3:26Speaker 2: you're baiting me into getting fans very mad at me.
- 3:28Speaker 2: But the obvious, the obvious, the obvious pivot is going
- 3:32Speaker 2: to Tanner McKee if the offense doesn't work really well
- 3:35Speaker 2: for you.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I didn't even know you were going to go there.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Well, I mean, where else would you go?
- 3:38Speaker 1: I mean, well, that's my That's my point is essentially
- 3:44Speaker 1: they are putting a lot of stock in the Jalen
- 3:46Speaker 1: Hurts is going to be able to run this the
- 3:48Speaker 1: way they want it done. And what if it doesn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: work out? What I mean, you're two and five after
- 3:54Speaker 1: seven games, then what.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I'm like to think that's one of those great we
- 3:58Speaker 2: have to get there to see what happens type of questions.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I mean, the pivot can't be We'll just go back
- 4:04Speaker 2: to running the ball because they want to run the
- 4:05Speaker 2: ball anyway. That's the whole idea of this offense was
- 4:08Speaker 2: to still be able to run the ball and marry
- 4:10Speaker 2: it to a play action pass game, and just that
- 4:13Speaker 2: it's not to make the passing game more voluminous. It's
- 4:17Speaker 2: just to make it more impactful as you continue to
- 4:21Speaker 2: run the ball. So that's the point. So there's no
- 4:24Speaker 2: pivot to if the pass offense isn't working, or if
- 4:27Speaker 2: the offense isn't working, it's not just keep running the
- 4:29Speaker 2: ball and get by. It would be a change at
- 4:31Speaker 2: the quarterback position. So I don't I'm not telling you
- 4:36Speaker 2: I think that's gonna happen. I'm just answering your question
- 4:38Speaker 2: of if they really go far south?
- 4:41Speaker 1: So right, Well, we were looking at because a lot
- 4:43Speaker 1: of it came up with the conversation about what we
- 4:45Speaker 1: had the other day about Lemon and the role that
- 4:48Speaker 1: we perceive him is do we look at him as
- 4:51Speaker 1: strictly a slot guy? No, and that they got this
- 4:54Speaker 1: particular guy to make the middle of the field more
- 4:59Speaker 1: attractive for Jalen Hurts. Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I mean I think that he is one of several
- 5:04Speaker 2: players that will make the middle of the field more
- 5:06Speaker 2: attractive for Jalen Hurts, and that includes having Dallas Goddard
- 5:10Speaker 2: come back and includes Eli Stowers at tight end.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Uh.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And for people who do listen to the next inside
- 5:16Speaker 2: the Birds, we talked about the wide receiver depth chart.
- 5:19Speaker 2: There are many players that they have that you might
- 5:22Speaker 2: think are X receivers, you know, because of height or weight,
- 5:27Speaker 2: but they have slot experience where can play in the
- 5:30Speaker 2: slot at times as well, and the offensive function itself.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Using bunch formations, trips formations, reduced formations where the receivers
- 5:38Speaker 2: line up tighter to the line of scrimmage are all
- 5:41Speaker 2: ways to capitalize on using space in the middle field
- 5:45Speaker 2: and creating mismatches there. So it's really not about one
- 5:48Speaker 2: or two guys to me, it's about your whole offensive
- 5:50Speaker 2: concept and the people you've added.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Right, So, you know, we were talking about Lemon. He
- 5:57Speaker 1: lined up premierly in the slot sixty percent of the time,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but I was surprised to see how much Devonte Smith
- 6:04Speaker 1: lined up in the slot last year. I was about
- 6:06Speaker 1: fifty percent of the time. Is that something that you
- 6:08Speaker 1: think they still want to do with Smith or is
- 6:12Speaker 1: Lemon here to keep Smith more primarily on the outside
- 6:16Speaker 1: or do they interchange those two?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there's things you want to do and
- 6:19Speaker 2: there's things you have to do. If you go back
- 6:21Speaker 2: to the last two years, the Egles didn't have a
- 6:25Speaker 2: traditional slot receiver. Johan Dotson haven't had one for a
- 6:29Speaker 2: while exactly. And it's funny because on this podcast that
- 6:32Speaker 2: Adam and I did that'll be out tomorrow if you
- 6:34Speaker 2: watch it on YouTube. You could see me jumping for
- 6:36Speaker 2: joy just talking about the Eagles actually having slot receivers
- 6:40Speaker 2: because I've actually been saying for years I felt they
- 6:42Speaker 2: really needed one, and now they have guys who can
- 6:45Speaker 2: play the slot and really excel there, especially Lemon. But
- 6:49Speaker 2: to your point, the fifty percent slot on DeVante Smith
- 6:52Speaker 2: wasn't oh, the Eagles really like to use DeVante Smith
- 6:55Speaker 2: as in the slot. It was you need to be
- 6:58Speaker 2: able to rotate them there because h. Dotson is not
- 7:01Speaker 2: necessarily a full time slot receiver either, So they had
- 7:05Speaker 2: to do everything they could well.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And the way that I, you know, looked at it,
- 7:08Speaker 1: Jeff Bosher Football four with us, is Dotson not a
- 7:12Speaker 1: true slot guy? How much did that prevent Hurts from
- 7:16Speaker 1: trusting that those guys because they weren't really there? And
- 7:21Speaker 1: and I go back to the article that Andrew wrote
- 7:24Speaker 1: very eloquently about how eloquent and precise the routes were
- 7:29Speaker 1: for Lemon. In other words, if I throw the ball
- 7:31Speaker 1: over the middle, I can trust that this guy's gonna
- 7:34Speaker 1: be where he says he's gonna be. I'm not sure
- 7:37Speaker 1: I could trust that Dotson was going to be there.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I don't know if it was a trust issue, I
- 7:41Speaker 2: think it's more of a comfortay, And that that leads
- 7:44Speaker 2: into your question about whether or not the offense really
- 7:46Speaker 2: will function this year, because we know that the quarterback
- 7:50Speaker 2: there are times where he just does not throw it
- 7:53Speaker 2: to open receivers over the middle of the field. That's
- 7:55Speaker 2: why I don't think it's a trust thing, because there
- 7:57Speaker 2: were plenty of times where you know, would do the
- 8:00Speaker 2: show inside the tape with Greg Cosel and we would
- 8:02Speaker 2: break down all the tape and we would show, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: depending on the game, three four or five times where
- 8:07Speaker 2: there's a guy wide open in the middle and he
- 8:09Speaker 2: just did not want to throw that ball there, even
- 8:12Speaker 2: though there wasn't really the window was pretty pretty wide
- 8:15Speaker 2: and only only Jalen Hurts. You have to be in
- 8:17Speaker 2: his head to know why he wouldn't, whether that was
- 8:20Speaker 2: trust or comfort. But if it's a trust thing, it
- 8:23Speaker 2: would be strange why you wouldn't trust somebody who's wide open.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I think it was just more of a comfort.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Thing, yeah, and I agree with I do agree with that,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and it's going to be interesting to see.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So I don't know if like to your point, like
- 8:36Speaker 2: just making Makay Lemon there and putting him there, does
- 8:39Speaker 2: that make Hurts throw the ball more?
- 8:41Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I think it's something that they have to work on
- 8:44Speaker 2: with Jalen, and Jalen has to be a little bit
- 8:47Speaker 2: more proactive with himself on is seeing those opportunities that
- 8:52Speaker 2: are what they call layups or schemed open plays where
- 8:58Speaker 2: the play is there to step on your back foot
- 9:01Speaker 2: or plant your black backfoot and fire it when it's there.
- 9:05Speaker 2: And he they got to get him. He needs to
- 9:07Speaker 2: get himself in position to do that more so that
- 9:10Speaker 2: they can move the chains. He'd make it easier on him.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, so is this a much more timing and
- 9:17Speaker 1: rhythm type of offense as opposed to what they were
- 9:20Speaker 1: what he's used to.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I gues timing and rhythm will be a big part.
- 9:24Speaker 2: It's always been a big part of the Shanahan McVeigh
- 9:28Speaker 2: Lafloor offenses. You don't have to be Drew Brees. I mean,
- 9:31Speaker 2: Jordan Love to me is a guy who in Green
- 9:34Speaker 2: Bay doesn't always have the quickest trigger trigger right. He'll
- 9:38Speaker 2: he'll kind of maneuver around the pocket times. He loves
- 9:41Speaker 2: to throw the ball deep, just like Jalen Hurts. He
- 9:44Speaker 2: does have I probably has a tick better of a
- 9:47Speaker 2: timing and anticipation type throw. But he's not necessarily someone
- 9:52Speaker 2: you would say surgical, right like Drew Brees. You don't
- 9:56Speaker 2: have to be I feel like like I'm just examining
- 9:59Speaker 2: other offense quarter this offense. I'm not hierarchying it. But
- 10:02Speaker 2: Brock Purdy can only play that way. He doesn't have
- 10:04Speaker 2: a very strong arm. He's not a not a big
- 10:06Speaker 2: guy like he's got to be able to make those quick,
- 10:08Speaker 2: decisive throws that are there over the middle because there
- 10:12Speaker 2: isn't a whole lot of special, elite traits to his
- 10:15Speaker 2: game that he can compensate with. If that makes sense.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Okay, this is the question is not to be a
- 10:21Speaker 1: disparaging answer. Okay, all right, I'll try. And I don't
- 10:27Speaker 1: know the answer to this question. I had a hard
- 10:29Speaker 1: time answering to myself. And I'm no Jalen Hurts hater
- 10:32Speaker 1: by any stretch. What would we say that Jalen does
- 10:37Speaker 1: really well?
- 10:39Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, he throws a deep ball as good
- 10:41Speaker 2: as anybody in the league. There's there's no question about it.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I okay, So that something is that something that will
- 10:48Speaker 1: be prominent in this offense.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I think in every offense he got a deep ball.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah. So yes, so he throws the deep ball really well.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he throws the deep ball really well. I think
- 10:57Speaker 2: he's a good pre snap reader in terms of he
- 11:01Speaker 2: knows what the defense is pre snap and where the
- 11:05Speaker 2: openings are going to be. He has a high completion percentage.
- 11:08Speaker 2: That's not an accident. That's being very smart before the
- 11:12Speaker 2: ball is snapped and knowing what you want to do
- 11:14Speaker 2: with the football. And I do feel like as long
- 11:17Speaker 2: as he's generally protected or generally has his feet set,
- 11:20Speaker 2: his ball placement is pretty good. It's in the upper
- 11:23Speaker 2: echelon of the league. It falls off when he's running
- 11:27Speaker 2: around the pocket or holding onto the ball a little
- 11:29Speaker 2: bit too long. But there are guys who I think
- 11:33Speaker 2: do have good protection and don't always have great ball placement.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So I think that's something he does really well.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Because, like you know, one of the things you kind
- 11:41Speaker 1: of I said, I don't know how to answer it,
- 11:43Speaker 1: but it's in eight. I don't know what it is,
- 11:45Speaker 1: but he's in eight. And one of the things when
- 11:48Speaker 1: they've won Super Bowl and made it to the Super Bowl,
- 11:50Speaker 1: when he's been at his best. I feel like in
- 11:55Speaker 1: those years, especially in twenty twenty two, when they ran
- 11:58Speaker 1: a lot of RPO, he made the right decision on
- 12:01Speaker 1: the RPO ninety five percent of the time. It felt
- 12:04Speaker 1: like he made the right decision every single time. And
- 12:09Speaker 1: then as it's gone on here, have they pealed it
- 12:12Speaker 1: into his head so much to not turn the ball over?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Has that made him too safe? Or is he a
- 12:18Speaker 1: good decision maker that he doesn't turn the ball over?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Which one is it?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Well? I think he is a very good decision maker,
- 12:24Speaker 2: and he seems to be very confident innately, as you said,
- 12:29Speaker 2: in his ability to take sacks without turning the ball over,
- 12:32Speaker 2: because clearly one of the weaknesses of his game is
- 12:35Speaker 2: holding onto the ball in the pocket a tad tooo long,
- 12:39Speaker 2: and he does get sacked. He has one of the
- 12:41Speaker 2: highest sack percentages over the last three years in the
- 12:45Speaker 2: NFL for starting quarterbacks, which is sort of weird because
- 12:48Speaker 2: for the most part, their offensive line has been very
- 12:50Speaker 2: good over the last three years. I know last year
- 12:52Speaker 2: wasn't as good, and they have a lot of good
- 12:54Speaker 2: weapons who you can get the ball too quickly, so
- 12:56Speaker 2: he shouldn't have that high of a sack percentage. But
- 12:59Speaker 2: for somebody who gets hit that much, he holds onto
- 13:02Speaker 2: the ball. He doesn't fumble very often. And because of that,
- 13:05Speaker 2: also he doesn't rush the throw and throw a pick
- 13:08Speaker 2: very often. So that's sort of the trade off with it.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and again, like I said, I wasn't you know,
- 13:13Speaker 1: we were talking about like what is it because when
- 13:18Speaker 1: people get like, you know, he's not in the top
- 13:20Speaker 1: five or why don't you have him in your top ten?
- 13:22Speaker 1: And it's like it's so hard to describe, like what
- 13:25Speaker 1: are the things that he does really well that would
- 13:27Speaker 1: put him in a category where like I said, the
- 13:30Speaker 1: guy won the Super Bowl, he's a Super Bowl MVP.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I don't know that there's any organization that's saying if
- 13:35Speaker 1: I'm starting my franchise, that's the guy I'm drafting.
- 13:38Speaker 2: No, And that's okay. You know, Joe Flacco won a
- 13:41Speaker 2: Super Bowl as MVP. Russell Wilson won a Super Bowl
- 13:44Speaker 2: went to Russell Wilson has the same career basically after
- 13:47Speaker 2: eight years as Jalen hurts Right went to two Super Bowls.
- 13:50Speaker 2: One one of them played really well and the one
- 13:52Speaker 2: that they lost just didn't make the last play at
- 13:54Speaker 2: the end. Of the game, but things fell off for Russell.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I'm not saying that that's going to happen to Jail.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And what I'm saying is it's not so absurd to
- 14:03Speaker 2: have a Super Bowl MVP who is not considered the
- 14:05Speaker 2: greatest player at.
- 14:06Speaker 1: His position, no question.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I just find wards a Super Bowl MVP great receiver.
- 14:11Speaker 2: It was never the best receiver in the.
- 14:13Speaker 1: League, right. I totally agree with what you're saying. I
- 14:15Speaker 1: just find it to be very interesting, probably trying to
- 14:21Speaker 1: think of another quarterback that has had the success, the
- 14:27Speaker 1: amount of wins and the success in accolades that Jalen
- 14:30Speaker 1: has where the team has said we're going to change
- 14:33Speaker 1: the whole offense after all the success.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I think it took a little bit longer. But I
- 14:39Speaker 2: think the Flacco example is pretty cood. I mean, they
- 14:41Speaker 2: were in the playoffs every single year, they went to
- 14:43Speaker 2: a Super Bowl, they won it. He was on fire,
- 14:46Speaker 2: he was the MVP. I think the year before that
- 14:48Speaker 2: or two years before that, they nearly beat New England
- 14:51Speaker 2: in New England the NFC Championship game and Lee Evans
- 14:53Speaker 2: dropped the pass from Flacco in the bottom of the
- 14:56Speaker 2: back of the end zone that would have sent them
- 14:57Speaker 2: to the Super Bowl, so it wasn't his fault. And
- 15:00Speaker 2: he had a really good career, but he was never
- 15:03Speaker 2: considered the greatest. He always had some flaws, and then
- 15:06Speaker 2: when he got a little older and things started to
- 15:09Speaker 2: go south a little bit. Then they eventually went onto
- 15:14Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson then completely changed up everything they did. You know.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Well, And it's funny you say that because I don't
- 15:21Speaker 1: know that anybody ever looked at Flacco as the reason, right.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I mean, it's kind of hard to if people remember
- 15:31Speaker 2: when they won the Super Bowl, he was freaking unbelievable, So.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Wasn't that like a surprise.
- 15:38Speaker 2: But I mean, don't you think it was a surprise
- 15:41Speaker 2: when Jalen Hurts dropped all that. I mean, let's be honest.
- 15:44Speaker 2: For most of the year, for most of twenty twenty four,
- 15:48Speaker 2: the offense was sporadic, It was not great. And then
- 15:51Speaker 2: but when it was time to turn it on, he
- 15:54Speaker 2: turned it on. And by the way, they had a
- 15:55Speaker 2: plus twelve turnover ratio. That really helps when your defense
- 15:58Speaker 2: is that good. But same thing with Baltimore. I mean,
- 16:00Speaker 2: Joe Flacco had a great defense that put the offense
- 16:03Speaker 2: in really good spots. A lot.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, it was fun.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I think the issue is that Philadelphia didn't have much
- 16:10Speaker 2: of a Super Bowl history, if any, obviously, only one
- 16:13Speaker 2: in fifty two years. And then along came Jalen Hurts
- 16:15Speaker 2: and they've been to two and they've had unprecedented success,
- 16:18Speaker 2: and he's the quarterback, and therefore there has to be
- 16:21Speaker 2: some kind of parallels run between that and sort of
- 16:23Speaker 2: him being like this ungodly type of player. No, it
- 16:28Speaker 2: was a great team. It's a very very good team.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's like he's already proven that he
- 16:32Speaker 1: can win the super Bowl. Well, it's like Kenny win two.
- 16:35Speaker 1: You know what I mean, Like you get that, so
- 16:36Speaker 1: you get like, you can't win a super Bowl with
- 16:38Speaker 1: Jayler Hurts. Well you've already won one. Well you can't
- 16:40Speaker 1: win another one. You know. It's almost like you become
- 16:43Speaker 1: so obtuse to the fact that because you won one,
- 16:47Speaker 1: now it's that you can't win again because you've already
- 16:50Speaker 1: won one with that guy. Right.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a it's an interesting dynamic.
- 16:57Speaker 1: By the way, one of any.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Other quarterbacks would fall in into that court category. But
- 17:01Speaker 2: you know, sometimes there are really great quarterbacks that don't
- 17:03Speaker 2: even make it to the Super Bowl, so and you
- 17:05Speaker 2: get the other end of the spectrum.
- 17:08Speaker 1: You guys talked about it on the inside of the
- 17:10Speaker 1: Birds podcast about the depth chart stuff, and one of
- 17:13Speaker 1: the areas was running back. I'm very intrigued by this
- 17:16Speaker 1: because of what we're saying, where do you pivot? And
- 17:19Speaker 1: you're saying, well, they still want to run the ball.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Can they still feature Barkley as much as they have
- 17:24Speaker 1: the last two years or do they have to mix
- 17:26Speaker 1: in someone a little bit more? Allah many of these
- 17:29Speaker 1: teams around the league, you know, you have many teams
- 17:31Speaker 1: split the carries. Very few teams go with one guy.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Philadelphia is one of them.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we were doing the show Adam and
- 17:39Speaker 2: I and it's I think that's the one that's up
- 17:41Speaker 2: today and listen. It's it's hard not to talk out
- 17:43Speaker 2: of both sides of your mouth when you're talking about it,
- 17:45Speaker 2: because on one hand, both of us feel like Tank
- 17:49Speaker 2: Bigsby showed you last year that he can bring I mean,
- 17:52Speaker 2: he average almost six yards of carry on over fifty carries.
- 17:54Speaker 2: That's pretty good. So that's like noteworthy to me. So
- 17:58Speaker 2: it would be nice to give them the ball a
- 17:59Speaker 2: little bit more and then with this new offense, it
- 18:02Speaker 2: would be nice to see if will Shipley's he's got
- 18:05Speaker 2: more of juice per se than Bigsby, especially to the corner,
- 18:09Speaker 2: and he can catch the ball. But on the other side, Mike,
- 18:12Speaker 2: it's just hard to take Saquon Barkley off the field.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I mean, he's paid a lot of money and he's good.
- 18:17Speaker 2: So it's nice to say and sit here and talk
- 18:20Speaker 2: about running backs two and three and how you get
- 18:22Speaker 2: them more involved. But yeah, you know, look at the
- 18:24Speaker 2: workload Christian McCaffrey had for the Niners last year. They
- 18:27Speaker 2: didn't want to take him off the field. No one
- 18:29Speaker 2: in their right mind could have predicted McCaffrey was gonna
- 18:32Speaker 2: get that kind of workload a year after he missed
- 18:34Speaker 2: almost the whole year with the calf injuries.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So you know what ends up happening to some of
- 18:38Speaker 1: these guys once they get paid. I now no longer
- 18:42Speaker 1: want to use you as much as I should because
- 18:45Speaker 1: I don't want you to get hurt because I now
- 18:47Speaker 1: paid you.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I appealed the Eagles to not get the memo
- 18:49Speaker 2: on that. They ran him into one brick wall after
- 18:53Speaker 2: another last year, and they didn't.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Stop football four, of course, each and every day four
- 18:57Speaker 1: o'clock right here on the Sports Match. Check out the
- 18:59Speaker 1: Inside the Birds podcast. We never stopped football. They never
- 19:03Speaker 1: stopped football. They got total offseason coverage at Inside the
- 19:07Speaker 1: Birds dot com, and so do we on football at
- 19:09Speaker 1: four here on the Sports Bash. I look forward to
- 19:14Speaker 1: a lot of stuff this offseason. One will be what
- 19:17Speaker 1: this offense, how it implements, and what it looks like
- 19:19Speaker 1: moving forward. That to me is going to be a
- 19:22Speaker 1: fascinating mini camp, all of it. The first mini camp,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I feel like it's going to be very interesting. Yes,
- 19:29Speaker 1: two weeks from now right, something like that.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Usually mini camps aren't, but this one will have a
- 19:32Speaker 2: little bit more of a flavor to it, and then
- 19:34Speaker 2: training camp will be fascinating all right.
- 19:36Speaker 1: By the way, it looks like the NFL is pushing
- 19:39Speaker 1: back the release of the schedule. I think in another
- 19:41Speaker 1: week or so. It's not quite ready yet.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I guess, right, great, because you know, gotta wait on
- 19:47Speaker 2: the schedule. I don't know why, so why they can
- 19:48Speaker 2: leak every single game that's going to be on Amazon
- 19:52Speaker 2: and ESPN and yeah, one day at a time.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Jeff Bosher Football for powered by the Inside of the
