- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talk ZB Follow
- 0:12Speaker 1: this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio together.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Do for c Allen nineteen past five. I'll get to
- 0:19Speaker 2: your texts in the tick. Lotto is getting its first
- 0:22Speaker 2: big revamp in twenty years. There will now be more
- 0:24Speaker 2: balls in the powerball machine. At the moment there are
- 0:26Speaker 2: ten is going to go up to fourteen, and they're
- 0:28Speaker 2: also adding an eighth division now. Jason Delamore is the
- 0:31Speaker 2: Loto chief executive. Hi, Jason, Hi, heither, why are you
- 0:35Speaker 2: making it harder to win the Big One?
- 0:37Speaker 3: We're not necessarily making it harder. There's certainly a change
- 0:41Speaker 3: to the number of balls that go into the powerball drawer,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and that enables us to increase the size of the prizes,
- 0:48Speaker 3: both the entry prize from four to five million, and
- 0:51Speaker 3: there must be one from fifty to sixty million. But
- 0:53Speaker 3: it also allows us to introduce a division eight, which
- 0:57Speaker 3: significantly increases the number of winners that enjoy with Lotto
- 1:01Speaker 3: every drawer.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Forgive me if I'm wrong, because my understanding was that
- 1:04Speaker 2: by through the changes that you're making, it does become
- 1:07Speaker 2: harder to win that big Powerbowl, which is now which
- 1:10Speaker 2: is now sixty million, up from fifty Am I wrong?
- 1:13Speaker 3: No, that is correct from a Odds perspective, and then
- 1:16Speaker 3: you put that into perspectives, so that means on average
- 1:20Speaker 3: winning a jackpot, the jackpot draw goes from every three
- 1:23Speaker 3: weeks to about every three and a half week, So
- 1:25Speaker 3: that probably puts into a bit more contexts that folks
- 1:27Speaker 3: can understand.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Will we winning it too much too often?
- 1:31Speaker 3: That is a consequence if you don't keep the game
- 1:34Speaker 3: up to speed. So one of the things that has
- 1:36Speaker 3: happened in New Zealand since who made the last change
- 1:39Speaker 3: is our population is actually increased by over a million people,
- 1:42Speaker 3: and so it's very normal for lotteries to tune their
- 1:45Speaker 3: powerball and their lottery games in keeping with the population.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Now, the new eighth division which you've added, which obviously,
- 1:51Speaker 2: as you say, will have more frequent little winners. What's
- 1:54Speaker 2: the prize? How small is it?
- 1:56Speaker 3: We've yet to announce that, Heather, so that will come
- 1:58Speaker 3: later on in a month or two. We're getting closer
- 2:00Speaker 3: to the full announcement, Like.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Give me, give me, because you know I need to know.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Are we dealing in hundreds of thousands, hundreds tens?
- 2:07Speaker 3: What are we dealing with here, it'll be a smaller
- 2:10Speaker 3: cash prize.
- 2:12Speaker 2: What's small to you?
- 2:13Speaker 3: It's when you get closer to the day you'll be
- 2:17Speaker 3: the first recall.
- 2:18Speaker 2: We had a discussion about this. Everybody has got completely
- 2:21Speaker 2: different different ideas of like, what does an acceptable lotto win.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I think you can have a lottery prize on what
- 2:28Speaker 3: it will be?
- 2:29Speaker 2: My I reckon anything short of five million. I'm not
- 2:32Speaker 2: happy about. What about you?
- 2:33Speaker 3: You're not happy? No, you're into the bigger drawers are yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 3: Well well we've interviewed a number of our wines, of course,
- 2:40Speaker 3: and people, even five million people just find that such
- 2:43Speaker 3: a life changing experience. So mm hmm.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Jason, thank you. I appreciate it. Jason Delamore, Loto, Chief.
