- 1:04Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:04Speaker 3: All right, Coop just gave me a thumbs up, So
- 1:06Speaker 3: all right, all right, here we go. All right, ladies
- 1:10Speaker 3: and gentlemen, This is Carl Lee and I have my
- 1:15Speaker 3: crew still in the well. I won't say I have
- 1:17Speaker 3: mall in the building. Hollis Lewis is in the building,
- 1:19Speaker 3: and the football Queen Lisa Odie, she is by phone.
- 1:23Speaker 4: How you doing, Lisa?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Good.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'm doing okay. So just so you know, I don't
- 1:30Speaker 3: know if you could hear when we were talking, I
- 1:32Speaker 3: had made a comment about I was gonna start with something, and.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Uh, Hollis overruled me.
- 1:39Speaker 3: So as a as a as a as a politician,
- 1:41Speaker 3: he wants to open. He got to start with the
- 1:44Speaker 3: hottest story in the sports world right now. And what
- 1:48Speaker 3: is tell us what that story is so we can
- 1:50Speaker 3: we'll just jump right into I'm gonna try to make
- 1:52Speaker 3: it sound dramatic. In the dead of nights, Dallas Mavericks
- 1:57Speaker 3: have moved possibly one of the maybe top three NBA players,
- 2:02Speaker 3: Luca Donnas, by trade to the Los Angeles Laker for
- 2:06Speaker 3: basically ad a one to one. This is sort of unprecedented,
- 2:11Speaker 3: at least in modern NBA because most superstars, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 3: they normally like demand the trade. There's a whole bunch
- 2:19Speaker 3: of friction leading up and then this drama played out,
- 2:22Speaker 3: similar to what's going on in Miami and with Jimmy Butler. However,
- 2:26Speaker 3: this is even more unprecedented than that, because again you
- 2:29Speaker 3: have Luca Donna's twenty five years old, not even just
- 2:33Speaker 3: approaching his peakness, a five time first team NBA player,
- 2:38Speaker 3: a twenty eight point a game average player. They were
- 2:42Speaker 3: in the NBA Finals last year and they basically moved
- 2:47Speaker 3: him for again eight. He is a great player, but
- 2:50Speaker 3: normally a guy like that, you're getting the Kings rants.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I'm with shock Lee was there were no drafts, there
- 2:59Speaker 3: was no picks. Well it was one in the future. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 3: it was just ancillary. Are how far back like next year?
- 3:06Speaker 3: I think it's at least he correct me from mom.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I want to say twenty It might be twenty sex.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I want to say twenty eight. Though I don't believe
- 3:12Speaker 3: it's you know, in the next coming see. I think see,
- 3:15Speaker 3: I would think that you'd want to get something like
- 3:17Speaker 3: in the next draft, you know. But Okay, I'm before
- 3:23Speaker 3: Lisa because because I know Lisa's going to have a
- 3:25Speaker 3: whole lot of information to to probably come at this
- 3:29Speaker 3: in a in a different way. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 3:32Speaker 3: go kind of rogue on this and say, here's my
- 3:36Speaker 3: issue with this. I don't understand. I don't understand the
- 3:42Speaker 3: players in the mix. One personally, to me, Lebron, look
- 3:48Speaker 3: as many games as Lebron has won, as many titles
- 3:51Speaker 3: and things that he is the best ever or has
- 3:55Speaker 3: this his his statistical numbers are as great as anybody ever,
- 4:01Speaker 3: right and again and because he has played so long,
- 4:05Speaker 3: which again speaks to the physicality of what.
- 4:08Speaker 4: He does in the off season to.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Maintain that kind of status, to play at the highest
- 4:14Speaker 3: level and be one of the greatest players ever. But
- 4:19Speaker 3: one of the things that I just don't care and
- 4:22Speaker 3: and and I and I just feel this. This is
- 4:24Speaker 3: just how I feel about him. Everywhere he goes, he
- 4:30Speaker 3: ends up being some some part of an issue, or
- 4:34Speaker 3: there's an expectation of bringing players in. And I know
- 4:37Speaker 3: that you're saying that that nobody knew this, this was
- 4:40Speaker 3: all in the darkness, just came up. But everywhere he goes,
- 4:44Speaker 3: he it's like he has to bring a championship team
- 4:48Speaker 3: with him, and and and and well that's just that's
- 4:53Speaker 3: just my that's just my take it. Again, I'm I
- 4:56Speaker 3: cannot consider myself an expert on this, but this is
- 4:59Speaker 3: how I feel and how I how I see it.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Y'all can y'all can try to change me in that,
- 5:05Speaker 3: but I don't know. I don't know how how deep
- 5:08Speaker 3: you can go to change it.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Lebron found out about this ever dinner, am I not correct,
- 5:13Speaker 5: You are correct, Like Laker's general manager, I think his
- 5:17Speaker 5: name is Rob Tlinka, if I'm not mistaken correct, He's
- 5:20Speaker 5: consult with him. Like this was a totally quiet trade
- 5:25Speaker 5: and it had to be that way. They wanted to
- 5:27Speaker 5: keep it under wraps because they didn't want to involve,
- 5:31Speaker 5: you know, the agent for Luca. They didn't want to
- 5:34Speaker 5: involve you know that the trade having that leverage part,
- 5:38Speaker 5: and then they knew the fan backlash from the Mavericks.
- 5:40Speaker 5: I mean, they're not happy. They're not happy in Dallas.
- 5:43Speaker 3: But I guess my point, and again I understand what
- 5:46Speaker 3: you're saying, Coachley, but the story is, again, why is
- 5:50Speaker 3: an organization who has been relatively successful with said player
- 5:56Speaker 3: player who's been successful. We haven't necessarily heard any disparaging
- 6:00Speaker 3: things about him off the court. We've heard issues like
- 6:04Speaker 3: maybe he's not in the best of shape. You know,
- 6:07Speaker 3: he does like the whining things to the reft, which
- 6:09Speaker 3: is kind of normal and modern NBA. So my question
- 6:12Speaker 3: is again, and I've kind of and I've looked at it,
- 6:15Speaker 3: I'm thinking two.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Things are at play here.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Number One, he was eligible for the Max deal, So essentially,
- 6:23Speaker 3: if he played for the Dallas matter bicks around September
- 6:27Speaker 3: October this year, he would have got what was tannam
- 6:30Speaker 3: out to about a three hundred to maybe four hundred
- 6:34Speaker 3: million dollar deal.
- 6:35Speaker 4: We're talking seventy eighty million per.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Year over the life of a contract wrote So maybe
- 6:41Speaker 3: the owners didn't want to pay that.
- 6:44Speaker 4: That's possible and again and that problem, and that may
- 6:47Speaker 4: be the reason.
- 6:48Speaker 3: But at the same token, I'm thinking, Okay, you don't
- 6:51Speaker 3: want to pay that fine, And I think Luca Dollars
- 6:55Speaker 3: had the potential to bring you multiple championships. He's an
- 6:58Speaker 3: international Superstar member, he's a fullborn player. Yeah, And if
- 7:02Speaker 3: it's not that pitting out aside, it has to they
- 7:06Speaker 3: have to know something that we just don't know. Is
- 7:10Speaker 3: is it a linger injury that nobody knows about? This
- 7:13Speaker 3: is some allegations it's going to come out the next
- 7:15Speaker 3: year or too, because this is not the normal motive
- 7:18Speaker 3: operantus to trade a twenty five year old top three,
- 7:23Speaker 3: top five NBA player.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Yeah, MVP, I mean, yeah, he's I don't know. I mean,
- 7:31Speaker 5: I think it's weird. I think I think you're probably
- 7:33Speaker 5: on the right trail when you're talking about the money issue.
- 7:38Speaker 5: You know, they're trying to veil it though with you know,
- 7:41Speaker 5: the conditioning and the way games. You know, the was
- 7:45Speaker 5: upset with that. And then they're also saying, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 5: I've heard I've seen on the internet head coach Jason Kidd.
- 7:53Speaker 5: You know, he's what you're touching on. What you just said, Hollis,
- 7:56Speaker 5: He's frequently expressed concerns about his arguing with officials that.
- 8:02Speaker 3: That that is definitely not enough that could be remedied, right, yes.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Right, So I don't I don't understand it. I know
- 8:10Speaker 5: it was the Quiet trade and I think I think
- 8:12Speaker 5: Nko Harrison and then the Lakers general manager of Pelinka.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I think they've had a relationship in the past of
- 8:17Speaker 5: trade so correct. Yeah, and they and they've done it
- 8:22Speaker 5: in a manner, tried to do it in a similar manner,
- 8:25Speaker 5: and they got busted. And I can't remember what the
- 8:27Speaker 5: trade was.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Was that the Chris Praul deal? Maybe ye was that
- 8:31Speaker 4: that deal?
- 8:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that's well, thank you, But but this time they
- 8:35Speaker 5: pulled it off. And they pulled it off well, no
- 8:38Speaker 5: one had any idea.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And it leads me to believe that I just outside
- 8:43Speaker 3: of the money. It leads me to believe that something
- 8:47Speaker 3: must have been going on, something it's transpired that we're
- 8:51Speaker 3: not made available to Because again, you picked Luka Donnas
- 8:56Speaker 3: on the open market, you will get a king's handsome.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Not only everybody ears you're gonna get draft picks. I
- 9:04Speaker 3: mean I think a team, you know, you take a
- 9:06Speaker 3: team I don't know, you take a team like Miami maybe,
- 9:08Speaker 3: or a team like Charlotte or someone like that, I
- 9:12Speaker 3: think they would probably leverage their immediate future for a
- 9:16Speaker 3: guy like Luca. I mean, you could have got draft picks,
- 9:18Speaker 3: you could have got cash options, you could have got players.
- 9:22Speaker 3: And basically what you just did, like Lisa mentioned this
- 9:26Speaker 3: quiet trade in the night, you basically just swapped Ad
- 9:29Speaker 3: for Luca. Ad is six years older, he's injury prone,
- 9:33Speaker 3: he doesn't play a similar style of Luca like Luca plays.
- 9:36Speaker 3: So it's just, again I think, just my personal opinion,
- 9:41Speaker 3: they know something that they're not releasing to the public.
- 9:45Speaker 4: What Okay, So what could that actually be?
- 9:50Speaker 3: And to your point, I think if there's a lingering
- 9:55Speaker 3: or a potential injury that we haven't heard about that
- 9:58Speaker 3: he's playing through that nobody's talked about, Okay, I'm not
- 10:01Speaker 3: even sure yet. If that would be justifiable. Yeah, because
- 10:04Speaker 3: you I mean, you got to take the physical Yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 3: so they would probably find out that, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 3: because you so if it's so bad that you want
- 10:12Speaker 3: to let him.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Go, why am I going to take him? Yeah? I
- 10:15Speaker 4: mean you're right about that when.
- 10:17Speaker 5: You think of it was, excuse me, some type of
- 10:19Speaker 5: a serious injury though it would have affected his style
- 10:23Speaker 5: of play already this season. Like he's exactly all.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I mean, you know, and I mean I don't and
- 10:32Speaker 3: I'm reaching, so don't get it right, right, I'm just
- 10:34Speaker 3: trying to figure it out.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And that's something and to your reach, to your reach.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Yeah, when you start talking about a player who's not
- 10:43Speaker 3: always in shape, you know, maybe six seven, eight, ten
- 10:47Speaker 3: pounds over what we're wantedy, he's thirty thirty over thirty
- 10:52Speaker 3: over what becomes what what you challet what you question
- 10:57Speaker 3: is his dedication to the game.
- 11:01Speaker 4: But but what is his What is his.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Performance weekend and week out and game in game out?
- 11:11Speaker 4: Twenty eight points a game. I'm getting he's not.
- 11:13Speaker 3: He doesn't play much d if you've seen his defensive
- 11:15Speaker 3: highlights or lack thereof, that ain't his game. I'm not
- 11:18Speaker 3: sure there's a whole lot of None of the superstars
- 11:21Speaker 3: really necessarily are playing a lot of defense.
- 11:23Speaker 6: I mean.
- 11:24Speaker 3: And then even if you say, even if you take
- 11:26Speaker 3: the like the d Shape comments, well, I mean, this guy,
- 11:28Speaker 3: y'all went to the Western confer defensive Finals, you went
- 11:31Speaker 3: to the NBA Championship.
- 11:33Speaker 4: You know, he's not a player that misses a whole
- 11:35Speaker 4: bunch of games.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I think a Kawhala Leonard where he's just missing game
- 11:38Speaker 3: after game after game. This is a guy who you
- 11:41Speaker 3: know is gonna play regularly and he's successful in his play.
- 11:45Speaker 4: So again, it just leads me to believe.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And again I could be wrong, and it could just
- 11:49Speaker 3: be a simply economic financial decision, but I just think
- 11:52Speaker 3: something else is at play here. I think it's actually personally,
- 11:56Speaker 3: I think it's if it's anything, it has to me
- 12:01Speaker 3: it would have to be a hidden injury somewhere, a
- 12:04Speaker 3: potential or it's just it's just a matter of fact
- 12:08Speaker 3: of we don't want to do the money.
- 12:11Speaker 5: From what I mean, from what I saw today on
- 12:13Speaker 5: the internet, guys, he wasn't very happy in Dallas. I mean,
- 12:16Speaker 5: I don't think he was happy. He had made some
- 12:18Speaker 5: comments about management, like I think they had replaced some
- 12:22Speaker 5: people on the staff, and he he had made like
- 12:24Speaker 5: a statement like, well, they get rid of everybody I
- 12:27Speaker 5: like down here, like not. He was not as content
- 12:32Speaker 5: as people think he was and probably maybe didn't like
- 12:36Speaker 5: put it out there, you know, like like some of
- 12:39Speaker 5: the players do that I'm not happy here. You know.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Maybe that's just on his style of play. But you know,
- 12:44Speaker 5: I mean, I'm like, you guys, something's going on.
- 12:46Speaker 3: So do you think do you think Dallas just made
- 12:50Speaker 3: a preemptive strike realizing that maybe they were going to
- 12:53Speaker 3: lose him uh in the next few years.
- 12:56Speaker 5: I mean that that's a good theory. That's a good
- 12:58Speaker 5: theory that would come second behind the money. I really
- 13:01Speaker 5: feel like it's the money. But but but to me,
- 13:04Speaker 5: I don't think it was all roses and unicorns in
- 13:07Speaker 5: Dallas for him. I don't think he was just happy
- 13:11Speaker 5: cause maybe his personality he just didn't put it out
- 13:14Speaker 5: there like some of those other players do.
- 13:16Speaker 4: But do you do you risk in this deal?
- 13:19Speaker 3: And more so, I think this this happens more so
- 13:22Speaker 3: in basketball than maybe football. How does this affect the
- 13:28Speaker 3: fan base? Your your hometown fan base. But the thing
- 13:35Speaker 3: is that I would say I would guess that they're
- 13:37Speaker 3: probably not happy if you're a Max fan. But at
- 13:40Speaker 3: the same time, you do got a d so it
- 13:43Speaker 3: ain't like you just lost Luca Donags and ain't getting nothing.
- 13:47Speaker 4: I mean, you do have another All Star. You do
- 13:49Speaker 4: have another a champion.
- 13:51Speaker 5: So he's not as young, he doesn't have as many.
- 13:54Speaker 4: You're right, but he's Tory one.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So could we make the case that this might have
- 13:59Speaker 3: been a tree raid for a championship?
- 14:05Speaker 4: No, I can't. You know, I don't.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I believe Again, if it conspiracy theories to the side,
- 14:12Speaker 3: I believe this was probably just a money saving because
- 14:15Speaker 3: I mean, if I could go with that, if Lucas
- 14:17Speaker 3: signs what he's turned him out to the max contract
- 14:19Speaker 3: with the Lakers, I believe he'll lose approximately like one
- 14:23Speaker 3: hundred and twenty million dollars, So the max contract he'll
- 14:26Speaker 3: end up getting, or he'll be available for him to
- 14:28Speaker 3: sign with the Lakers or whoever he goes to. If
- 14:30Speaker 3: he doesn't, say with the Lakers was going to be
- 14:31Speaker 3: about one hundred and twenty million dollars less. So again,
- 14:35Speaker 3: three hundred million dollars, we can give that up, or
- 14:39Speaker 3: we can just take a quote unquote lesser player.
- 14:42Speaker 5: Well, and it could be a combination of all those things.
- 14:45Speaker 5: You know, it could be a pation of the money,
- 14:47Speaker 5: the fact that he wasn't happy, the fact that Jason
- 14:50Speaker 5: Kidd had some concerns. I mean, it was probably just
- 14:52Speaker 5: a perfect storm of all these different factors playing in
- 14:55Speaker 5: to trade him to the Lakers.
- 14:57Speaker 3: But let me ask you this so again in the
- 15:00Speaker 3: NBA in particular, do you think this move sets a
- 15:04Speaker 3: new precedent that NBA teams and ownership is taking back
- 15:08Speaker 3: control of the reins Because NBA has been one, you know,
- 15:12Speaker 3: big organization where the players has of late, particularly in
- 15:16Speaker 3: the Lebron James era, the players have had the power.
- 15:19Speaker 3: The players have had control. Not only players demand you know, trades,
- 15:24Speaker 3: but they can also even demand trace who is to
- 15:26Speaker 3: where they want to go, and they do this publicly.
- 15:28Speaker 3: So do you think like this sets sort of a
- 15:30Speaker 3: new tone?
- 15:31Speaker 4: Oh?
- 15:32Speaker 5: I think it sends a clear message. I think it
- 15:35Speaker 5: sends a clear message that we're in control, we have
- 15:37Speaker 5: the money, and we're going to do what we want
- 15:39Speaker 5: to do and we don't have to involve you players.
- 15:42Speaker 5: I think that's totally the message.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Step Oh okay, so okay, So with Lucas and his
- 15:51Speaker 3: let's say, his personality, his willingness to and or his
- 15:56Speaker 3: inability to be quote in top shape and his ability
- 15:59Speaker 3: to be able to speak openly and whatever whatever.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:04Speaker 3: So now, because when when you start talking about that change,
- 16:09Speaker 3: the guys who are gonna be hit by that are
- 16:11Speaker 3: gonna be your top players, those top players who are
- 16:14Speaker 3: the best who who maybe they don't they don't practice
- 16:17Speaker 3: hard enough, you know, they talk too much, they say
- 16:20Speaker 3: the wrong things in the media.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Those are that bad apple that you want to get
- 16:26Speaker 4: rid of.
- 16:27Speaker 3: How many teams can afford to actually get a get
- 16:30Speaker 3: leave that guy, get rid of that guy and go
- 16:34Speaker 3: somewhere and get something forward.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Because I think Luca's.
- 16:39Speaker 3: A good take, but I'm gonna make the case everybody's
- 16:42Speaker 3: not gonna be a good take. But I guess I
- 16:46Speaker 3: guess that's how it happened. Yeah, I mean, I guess
- 16:48Speaker 3: that's why this is just so surprising to me. Because again,
- 16:51Speaker 3: last week we talked about Jimmy Butler from Miami, and
- 16:55Speaker 3: he's not what I would call like on those top
- 16:58Speaker 3: tier players, right He's he's not in that class of player.
- 17:01Speaker 3: He might be second tier, third period, third tier, you know,
- 17:04Speaker 3: far as you have a hierarchy of NBA players, and
- 17:08Speaker 3: I could see a move to somebody like that. But
- 17:12Speaker 3: when you have like what some consider Luca Donna's as
- 17:16Speaker 3: a generational talent, the best player in his class, with
- 17:19Speaker 3: guys like John Moran those you know and Mellow and
- 17:23Speaker 3: you know Mellow Ball and everybody in that of that
- 17:26Speaker 3: similar age, and this is the and this is the move,
- 17:30Speaker 3: you know, like like you know what I'm saying, Like
- 17:32Speaker 3: I expect that from like a third tier, second tier
- 17:34Speaker 3: pay player, but he's a top tier player.
- 17:36Speaker 4: And you just basically just sent him off for it.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I ain't go again.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I'm not saying nothing because ad is something, but you
- 17:44Speaker 3: could have really, as I said before, got a king's
- 17:46Speaker 3: ransom for him on the open market. So I'm confused
- 17:51Speaker 3: by it. Yeah, like you like you. It was almost
- 17:53Speaker 3: like it was we want to get rid of him, yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 3: you know, and that we'll just we'll just swap out
- 18:00Speaker 3: and call it even That's pretty much what happened. I mean,
- 18:03Speaker 3: they got some other players, but there's you know, those
- 18:05Speaker 3: are ancillary players. They might get cutting next week, right, No, right.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Well, And I think I think I think all the
- 18:13Speaker 5: sports news outlets are baffled, like it was just nobody
- 18:16Speaker 5: saw that coming.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Nobody and again and again, you know how that is.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Everybody talks, right, and everybody was super surprised. So to me,
- 18:25Speaker 3: I'm telling you, I'm going by, I'm gonna put my
- 18:27Speaker 3: ten foil coofie on and and my tenfoil had and
- 18:31Speaker 3: I'm saying I'm a conspiracy theory and something's going on.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I don't know. I think, like I said,
- 18:40Speaker 5: you could be right, Hallows, you're you know, it's a
- 18:42Speaker 5: good that's a good thing to put out there, a
- 18:44Speaker 5: good theory. But I really feel like, I don't know.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I just think these general managers maybe are putting a
- 18:50Speaker 5: message out there to the players. You know, we're the
- 18:52Speaker 5: ones that have the money, we are in charge.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I'm kind of like I'm with that too, I mean,
- 18:58Speaker 3: because I just feel like basketball is it's to me,
- 19:04Speaker 3: I think it's growing and and the and the salaries
- 19:09Speaker 3: are going up and up and up and up without
- 19:12Speaker 3: no hesitation.
- 19:13Speaker 4: You know, hundreds and hundreds of millions.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Of dollars to practically everybody, right, and with basketball, guys
- 19:21Speaker 3: they can play now for fifteen twenty. You know, Lebron
- 19:26Speaker 3: is what in year what twenty one, twenty two, and
- 19:28Speaker 3: he's and he's a top ten player right now. Yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, Steph Curry still going strong.
- 19:35Speaker 3: So now with the conditioning and how they take care
- 19:37Speaker 3: of their body and you know, science and and all
- 19:40Speaker 3: the things, guys are playing longer. So it might you
- 19:44Speaker 3: guys could be right. It could have been a move like, look, man,
- 19:46Speaker 3: we're not playing that no more. We're done doing that.
- 19:49Speaker 3: And if you ain't won a championship in the last
- 19:51Speaker 3: seven years, you ain't gonna win one by right, start over.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Because the question is.
- 19:56Speaker 3: How long can he and because how long can Ron
- 20:00Speaker 3: be the reason why we win the championship?
- 20:04Speaker 4: There's the question. He's a great player.
- 20:07Speaker 3: He and we can add people around him and that
- 20:09Speaker 3: even makes him better.
- 20:11Speaker 4: But having him on his own, can he can he
- 20:17Speaker 4: take you there?
- 20:18Speaker 3: I mean, nobody's taking you there on your not an
- 20:20Speaker 3: NBA nobody, well nobody, nobody's taking you on your own.
- 20:24Speaker 3: But my question okay, so let me post it more
- 20:27Speaker 3: as a question that with Lebron and any other say,
- 20:35Speaker 3: any other team, they know that you've got to have
- 20:38Speaker 3: at least two legitimate players. Yeah, I'm not one.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Hundred percent sure that that.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Lebron and that other superstar, I don't know if they
- 20:52Speaker 3: work together.
- 20:56Speaker 5: It's going to put that out there. This is a risk.
- 20:59Speaker 5: I mean, it really has a risk to who well
- 21:04Speaker 5: I mean about it.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I'm with you, Lisa, I keep talking because I'm right
- 21:12Speaker 4: there with you.
- 21:13Speaker 5: Well, I mean, we know how egos are on the
- 21:15Speaker 5: n Y and it might be breezed right now. You know,
- 21:18Speaker 5: he feels like he's the face of the Lakers, which
- 21:20Speaker 5: he is to a degree now to a degree, and
- 21:23Speaker 5: now they bring in this other superstar who you know,
- 21:26Speaker 5: rivals his name. I mean, we can't be sure whether
- 21:31Speaker 5: they're gonna gel on the on the court, or whether
- 21:33Speaker 5: they even have the right chemistry. I mean, it could be.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I'm not saying that it probably will be. It probably
- 21:38Speaker 5: will be a good news, but it could be a disaster.
- 21:41Speaker 5: I mean, I'm going to put that out there.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I mean, I see where you going with that.
- 21:47Speaker 3: But I think at at the at the best, Lebron
- 21:50Speaker 3: maybe has two more seasons left, and I think for
- 21:53Speaker 3: the Lakers, this was a play on their future. And
- 21:58Speaker 3: again and again and and and even to that point, Yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 3: even to that point, it's like just kind of going
- 22:06Speaker 3: back for me. I mean, why even just make the
- 22:08Speaker 3: trade to the Lakers. Why is it just the destination?
- 22:11Speaker 3: Why why is it just like Okay, in the in
- 22:14Speaker 3: the dead and night, we're just gonna hay trade. We're
- 22:16Speaker 3: gonna trade you to the premier franchise. It's just everything
- 22:20Speaker 3: about this. I mean, again, I'm a Laker fan, so
- 22:23Speaker 3: I'm happy he's with us, but it just thinks to
- 22:26Speaker 3: how like something to me is going on. I could
- 22:30Speaker 3: even make a case that the Lakers are saying, like,
- 22:33Speaker 3: where are we going next? Who's gonna be our guy?
- 22:35Speaker 3: Because at some point Lebron is not, you know, some
- 22:38Speaker 3: point soon, yes, he's gonna he's gonna he's gonna be
- 22:43Speaker 3: less the player than what he is. Still, now, we
- 22:48Speaker 3: need a face. We need somebody who can play. We
- 22:51Speaker 3: need somebody who's I'm gonna say Lebron like okay, yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 3: and and so let's get him already in the house already.
- 23:02Speaker 5: So but it is, I mean, it's just weird that
- 23:06Speaker 5: they did this. I mean, where did I mean, how
- 23:08Speaker 5: did they even start the conversation?
- 23:11Speaker 4: That's what I'm wondering.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Our best player? You want an MVP contender? I mean,
- 23:15Speaker 5: you know, and they only involve them.
- 23:17Speaker 3: This is gonna be like like twenty maybe fifteen, maybe
- 23:21Speaker 3: even ten years from now, maybe five. The way media goes,
- 23:24Speaker 3: it's gonna be like a thirty for thirty on this.
- 23:25Speaker 3: It's gonna be like a Netflix like documentary on this
- 23:30Speaker 3: whole thing, and then we're gonna be able to find
- 23:32Speaker 3: out all the you know, the nuances of it. But
- 23:35Speaker 3: I see, I think I don't think it'll take that long.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I think because people talk. Now, yeah, you know, people
- 23:41Speaker 3: get to the media people. But it's the thing though,
- 23:43Speaker 3: so nobody talk when this dealer is going. But it's happening.
- 23:47Speaker 3: But I'm not okay, so let's say, I'm not gonna
- 23:49Speaker 3: say it until it happened, right, but.
- 23:50Speaker 4: People never do that now.
- 23:52Speaker 3: But but now it happened and it's and it's big
- 23:55Speaker 3: news and everybody's talking about it. You know, I'm going
- 23:59Speaker 3: to esp in and whisper it to somebody. This is
- 24:03Speaker 3: what this is what they were saying. Why this is
- 24:06Speaker 3: the why? You know, and again the why could be
- 24:10Speaker 3: They're they're looking at Lebron being gone that maybe you
- 24:14Speaker 3: know that that could that very well could be the possibility.
- 24:17Speaker 4: And if and then and and because well, let me
- 24:19Speaker 4: ask this question to both of you.
- 24:23Speaker 3: If they let's say they, let's say they totally was
- 24:25Speaker 3: gonna give Lebron a total respect that he probably fought
- 24:29Speaker 3: and thinks he deserves, and maybe other people may think
- 24:32Speaker 3: he deserves, sit him down and said, hey, this is
- 24:36Speaker 3: this is this is our plan. What's Lebron saying? Does
- 24:40Speaker 3: he say yes or no? Is he willing to make
- 24:42Speaker 3: that player trade basically one for one because he ain't
- 24:46Speaker 3: gonna be those draft picks.
- 24:47Speaker 4: He ain't gonna be part of that.
- 24:49Speaker 3: He ain't gonna be he he he may not even
- 24:51Speaker 3: be there when they at that point.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Do you think Lebron is okay? That's what I'm saying.
- 24:56Speaker 3: I don't think they talked about talk to him, That's
- 24:58Speaker 3: what I'm saying. But I'm just saying I'm asking the question.
- 25:01Speaker 3: If they would have brought Lebron in, set him down,
- 25:04Speaker 3: ask him the question and say, hey, what about taking Luker?
- 25:08Speaker 3: What do you think about the trade for him? That's
- 25:11Speaker 3: actually a good question. I mean, I think, I mean,
- 25:15Speaker 3: I think he would have been for it. I mean,
- 25:18Speaker 3: and that's with the caveat that him and a d
- 25:20Speaker 3: are boys and they've had a great working relationship, and
- 25:22Speaker 3: they won a championship.
- 25:24Speaker 4: I think, on.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I don't that's a good question, because I mean, the
- 25:29Speaker 3: Lakers actually playing good right now. You know, we're in
- 25:32Speaker 3: contention to, you know, possibly be the number one contender
- 25:36Speaker 3: in the Western Conference. So we're actually things are going
- 25:38Speaker 3: well for the Lakers right now. So I don't know,
- 25:41Speaker 3: because I mean, he's not necessarily considering the future of
- 25:44Speaker 3: the franchise, So I mean, just to shake up things
- 25:47Speaker 3: for the sake of shaking it up, I probably think
- 25:49Speaker 3: he would have probably been against it, honestly, I think.
- 25:53Speaker 5: So I'm going to take a different angle. I'm gonna
- 25:56Speaker 5: look at it this way because I feel like if
- 26:00Speaker 5: they would have involved Lebron a little more with him
- 26:05Speaker 5: knowing what was coming down the pipe with Luca, that
- 26:08Speaker 5: maybe I mean, I'm not saying I don't know how
- 26:10Speaker 5: he's reacted to this. I mean, obviously no one knows yet,
- 26:13Speaker 5: but I'm just wondering if he would have felt more
- 26:17Speaker 5: involved in getting him there, that maybe he would be
- 26:21Speaker 5: more a little open and receptive. Maybe I'm totally off faith,
- 26:25Speaker 5: but I just feel like a lot of these guys
- 26:28Speaker 5: in the NBA it's all about them all the time,
- 26:30Speaker 5: and it's hard to bring in another superstar, especially if
- 26:33Speaker 5: you haven't been told they're coming. I mean to me
- 26:36Speaker 5: that that that could be a really bitter pill to
- 26:40Speaker 5: swallow for Lebron.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Well, but let me, well, let me just say, let
- 26:44Speaker 3: me let me just use an example quote back in
- 26:49Speaker 3: the day, there was no really, there was no reason
- 26:52Speaker 3: for me to con me as as as ownership general manager.
- 26:57Speaker 3: All of that I don't need and you as my
- 26:59Speaker 3: play Hollis, I don't need to talk to you about
- 27:01Speaker 3: the trade.
- 27:02Speaker 4: I don't need to talk to you about what I'm
- 27:03Speaker 4: about to do.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Okay, Well, I'm just saying, I'm just saying we got
- 27:12Speaker 3: we the trade for the trade that got us herschel Walker.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Okay mm hmm.
- 27:21Speaker 3: There's nobody on our football team prior to that that
- 27:25Speaker 3: any management coach could ask us and say, are you willing?
- 27:32Speaker 3: What do you think about a herschel Walker trade? David Howard,
- 27:36Speaker 3: Chris Martin, all these guys, Isaac Holt, all these guys
- 27:40Speaker 3: who are playing, who are starters, who are part of
- 27:43Speaker 3: a number one defense. You nobody's gonna be okay with that.
- 27:49Speaker 3: So you're doing this behind the back of the strategy
- 27:56Speaker 3: and or what players see. We were looking and thinking, man,
- 28:00Speaker 3: we you know we we just went to the NFC
- 28:02Speaker 3: Championship game.
- 28:03Speaker 4: We lost. We'll be back.
- 28:06Speaker 3: And he's sitting in his office and he's thinking, all
- 28:09Speaker 3: we need is a guy like herschel Walker.
- 28:12Speaker 4: And then Dallas says, Okay, we'll give him to you.
- 28:16Speaker 3: For this and all a whole host of draft picks
- 28:18Speaker 3: that they that they traded for people and they won
- 28:21Speaker 3: three super Bowls. Absolutely, they literally took the herschel Walker draft.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I'm thinking about that after the conversation last week. The
- 28:28Speaker 3: draft picks y'all gave up. They actually won a super
- 28:30Speaker 3: Bowl with those players. Yes, so you know what I'm saying,
- 28:34Speaker 3: so and making the point that players don't always get
- 28:38Speaker 3: that opportunity. Let's say back in the day, they didn't
- 28:42Speaker 3: get there, and nobody's nobody's caring about what you think.
- 28:47Speaker 4: That general manager's up there, he's cutting a deal.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think Lebron's there, Nobody it's over for Lebron.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I think him getting Bronni, him getting JJ Reddick. That's
- 28:59Speaker 3: it for that's your last hurrah. As far as constructing teams.
- 29:03Speaker 3: You got one two, maybe maybe three more years left
- 29:07Speaker 3: playing at a high level. Them days of you getting
- 29:10Speaker 3: to choose the team and we consulting with you, them
- 29:13Speaker 3: days are over for Lebron. You're you're a guy now?
- 29:16Speaker 4: So is that because of are we are?
- 29:19Speaker 3: Do you think that is part of what the deal was,
- 29:22Speaker 3: to show you that you don't have any I.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Don't think this had anything to do with Lebron.
- 29:27Speaker 3: This has nothing to do with Lebron in my book,
- 29:29Speaker 3: this far as the Lakers are concerned. Hell, you was
- 29:32Speaker 3: presented an opportunity and you took it.
- 29:35Speaker 4: That's it.
- 29:36Speaker 3: I mean, it's like somebody giving you free money. Hey,
- 29:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna take that. I'll take it. That's what it
- 29:40Speaker 3: sounds like, right, it sounds like again that's violent. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 3: we're just gonna this is the deal we got, it's
- 29:45Speaker 3: in front of our face. We ain't gonna pass this opportunity.
- 29:48Speaker 3: What you need from us. But again, the interesting point,
- 29:51Speaker 3: the interesting side is the Dallas side. Why did you
- 29:55Speaker 3: do this? And I can't wait to find out that part. Yeah,
- 29:59Speaker 3: because you're talking about trying to get something back. I mean,
- 30:04Speaker 3: we well, and that's just.
- 30:05Speaker 5: Amazed that they pulled it off. Guys without anything any leak.
- 30:11Speaker 5: I mean even even when I read an article today.
- 30:14Speaker 5: I read some article on the internet about it, and
- 30:17Speaker 5: it said that that the Rob Polenka actually flew to
- 30:22Speaker 5: Dallas and met Niko Harris's person at some coffee shopper.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Did nobody see them?
- 30:29Speaker 3: I mean, come on, but do you think, but do
- 30:32Speaker 3: you think people would like even if they saw them,
- 30:35Speaker 3: do you think people would even like get a hint
- 30:38Speaker 3: of that at least Nico.
- 30:41Speaker 5: I mean, he's there, He's part of the math community, right,
- 30:44Speaker 5: so I mean somebody would have recognized him. I don't know.
- 30:47Speaker 5: It's all strange. It's really it's a strange thing. It's
- 30:50Speaker 5: all strange facts.
- 30:52Speaker 4: It really is.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Well, let's let's take a quick break and then we'll

- 32:30Speaker 2: their conversation.
- 32:32Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are we are back,
- 32:35Speaker 3: and uh we are getting ready to lose the football queen.
- 32:39Speaker 3: She is out of town and has dinner arrangements and
- 32:43Speaker 3: she didn't she didn't include Hollison myself, so we won't
- 32:47Speaker 3: have anything to eat.
- 32:48Speaker 5: So next week, okay.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I'll take that. So we're gonna we're gonna go ahead
- 32:54Speaker 3: and take our Super Bowl picks. Yeah, before you before
- 33:01Speaker 3: you get out of there, and and let's let's see.
- 33:05Speaker 3: So I'm gonna start it just because I'm going to
- 33:08Speaker 3: kind of explain why I like Kansas City. I like
- 33:12Speaker 3: my homes, I like the defense there, I like like it.
- 33:16Speaker 3: I like it all right. But I have a tendency
- 33:21Speaker 3: to not like dynasties, people who keep winning over and
- 33:27Speaker 3: over and over. And I think a lot of people
- 33:29Speaker 3: have it, whether or not they know it or not.
- 33:32Speaker 3: You know people who are who rooted for Kansas City
- 33:35Speaker 3: before and and they won the championship and now it's
- 33:39Speaker 3: you know, now they're going into their third opportunity to win.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Now they're like, I don't really like them.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I'm I'm unfortunately I am in that group of people.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So I've got to go to Phil. I gotta go
- 33:51Speaker 3: with Philly, Philly, man, I gotta go for Phylicia.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Who you got?
- 33:54Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, well, I mean I thought about I've
- 33:58Speaker 5: gone back and forth because I really don't I have
- 34:00Speaker 5: I definitely have Chiefs fatigue. Like just like Carl just said,
- 34:04Speaker 5: I'm over it, I'm over my homes. I'm over But
- 34:06Speaker 5: you know what, I think the bottom line is it's
- 34:09Speaker 5: gonna come to coaching and whether the Eagles can can
- 34:13Speaker 5: strategically able to predict what Andrey Andy Reid has in store.
- 34:18Speaker 5: I mean, you know, he's elevating my homes play with
- 34:22Speaker 5: and I want the Eagles to win. I really like
- 34:26Speaker 5: I like I like hurt, you know, I like the
- 34:28Speaker 5: whole storyline, you know, with the running back that. But
- 34:31Speaker 5: I really feel like they're gonna do it. It's gonna
- 34:33Speaker 5: be a three.
- 34:33Speaker 4: P all right.
- 34:35Speaker 3: So you so you got the Chiefs, I got the Okay,
- 34:40Speaker 3: So again my heart is with Philly me, but my
- 34:47Speaker 3: mind is telling me the Chiefs is going to do
- 34:51Speaker 3: it again. And I just don't think that my homes
- 34:58Speaker 3: can be stopped. I don't think think that you can
- 35:01Speaker 3: put a defense out there that's going to adequately stop
- 35:05Speaker 3: what he's doing. I think he has. He doesn't have
- 35:08Speaker 3: like the best receivers in the game. I think actually
- 35:11Speaker 3: Philly has far as offensively, they have better weapons all around.
- 35:16Speaker 3: But I think he has adequate I mean, I'm thinking
- 35:19Speaker 3: back to the Super Bowl he lost with the Rams,
- 35:21Speaker 3: where you know, nobody can catch a football.
- 35:24Speaker 4: It's not like that this year with them teams.
- 35:26Speaker 3: I mean, they've got pretty short, haanded receivers who can
- 35:28Speaker 3: get open, who are fast and quick, and he has
- 35:31Speaker 3: an offensive line that can give him the adequate time
- 35:33Speaker 3: he needs to assess of what's going to downfield to
- 35:36Speaker 3: deliver the ball. So I mean, again, nobody's proven to
- 35:40Speaker 3: stop that this season. We know that, you know, the
- 35:44Speaker 3: ref love the Chiefs.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Bring that out.
- 35:49Speaker 3: That's part of Taylor. Swift gonna be there, Kate and
- 35:51Speaker 3: Carr gonna be there. So I mean, you know, again,
- 35:55Speaker 3: my heartest with Philly. I want Philly to win. You know,
- 35:58Speaker 3: I'm rooting for Philly, but I think that Chiefs is
- 36:00Speaker 3: probably gonna, uh, you know, pull off history. I think
- 36:03Speaker 3: I think I think this is going to be a
- 36:06Speaker 3: defensive game, regardless of how much they score. Okay, I
- 36:11Speaker 3: think it's gonna be a defensive game. And I think obviously,
- 36:16Speaker 3: maybe the quarterback who plays the best in this game
- 36:23Speaker 3: is gonna win this game.
- 36:24Speaker 4: I don't.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I don't think so. I think because again I think
- 36:27Speaker 3: Jalen Hurst can play great. But if you don't, but
- 36:30Speaker 3: if you stop, say Kawan Barkley because he's Jen Hurst
- 36:35Speaker 3: times again, No, but but again.
- 36:39Speaker 5: It's gonna come down to defenses and mistakes guts. I mean,
- 36:43Speaker 5: which ever defense can stop the other star players on
- 36:46Speaker 5: the offense and whoever doesn't turn the ball over.
- 36:50Speaker 3: The running the football, Running the football will forever be
- 36:56Speaker 3: the motive of winning football games. Yeah, particularly in deep play, Yes,
- 37:01Speaker 3: because what happens is and it's and and when you're
- 37:05Speaker 3: running the football and you're getting first downs, that's different
- 37:10Speaker 3: than trying to throw the ball and keep getting first
- 37:12Speaker 3: downs because you you're not You're it's just not you
- 37:15Speaker 3: just can't do that.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Everybody can't just do that.
- 37:18Speaker 3: But if you can control the football and keep if
- 37:21Speaker 3: they can keep the Chiefs defense out on the field,
- 37:24Speaker 3: but they're gonna wear them down, that in turn gives
- 37:28Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts way better opportunities because he's gonna get more
- 37:33Speaker 3: than what's gonna happen for Mahopes he's not gonna get
- 37:35Speaker 3: out on there.
- 37:36Speaker 4: He's not gonna be out on the field enough. That's
- 37:38Speaker 4: my thought.
- 37:39Speaker 3: I'm thinking if they come in, and I think if
- 37:42Speaker 3: they can run the ball, which I don't think.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Again, I don't think.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Defensive box are really very good at being out there
- 37:51Speaker 3: trying to actually make tackles.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I would agree with that.
- 37:53Speaker 3: And and and you're talking about the big board, Yes,
- 37:57Speaker 3: and we'll run at you.
- 38:00Speaker 5: I think we'll know the first quarter what Sekwon Barkley
- 38:03Speaker 5: is going to be able to do, don't you guys
- 38:04Speaker 5: think I.
- 38:09Speaker 4: Agree with that and disagree with that.
- 38:10Speaker 3: I think me too, it'd be a great you know,
- 38:13Speaker 3: far as like setting the tone. But I think it's
- 38:17Speaker 3: to Coachley's point. You know, when you talk about deep,
- 38:19Speaker 3: deep playoff runs, which obviously they they're they're in. You know,
- 38:24Speaker 3: running backs tend to get better as they go. As
- 38:26Speaker 3: they go, you know, that level of running back, particularly
- 38:29Speaker 3: like in a February game where everybody's tired, everybody's beat
- 38:34Speaker 3: up at this point, you know, And I could and
- 38:36Speaker 3: I could see them maybe even at even maybe even
- 38:41Speaker 3: at a fifty to fifty run past maybe somewhere early
- 38:45Speaker 3: in the first quartern't have to be that all game.
- 38:48Speaker 3: But then I'm looking at them Phillage, so yeah, it's
- 38:51Speaker 3: Philly's concerned. I'm then I'm looking at them getting somewhere
- 38:54Speaker 3: over into maybe a seventy to thirty run run if
- 39:00Speaker 3: they get up seven nothing.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Now we're gonna run the ball if you can.
- 39:03Speaker 3: If Philly can get a seventy run seventy to thirty
- 39:07Speaker 3: past to excuse me, run the pass ratio and they're
- 39:10Speaker 3: successful to moving the ball and winning, that's yeah, yes,
- 39:13Speaker 3: But that's just I don't know, because Mahomes can score
- 39:16Speaker 3: really really quick and from a lot of different angles.
- 39:19Speaker 3: So you cannot afford I mean, I don't think they
- 39:22Speaker 3: can afford to get down you know nothing. If you
- 39:25Speaker 3: get down I let's say fourteen seventeen points, it's gonna
- 39:29Speaker 3: be a long climb home.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Okay, to your point.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Okay, So let's say the Chiefs up seven or ten
- 39:36Speaker 3: to nothing to the Eagles.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Can the Eagles come back?
- 39:41Speaker 3: I think they could come back from there if we're
- 39:43Speaker 3: talking about a two score game, because I think, again,
- 39:46Speaker 3: what the Eagles have been able to proven that they
- 39:48Speaker 3: can do. They can score quick too. With say Kwan
- 39:50Speaker 3: Barkley right and jayalen Hurst. They make them big runs.
- 39:53Speaker 3: They make them sixty fifty yard runs.
- 39:54Speaker 4: You know.
- 39:55Speaker 3: But again, if you're talking three scores, because I think
- 39:57Speaker 3: what happens if you're down a three scores, It sort
- 40:00Speaker 3: of changes in the offensive coordinator's mind, how he's calling plays,
- 40:04Speaker 3: and it creates a sense of urgency where you actually
- 40:07Speaker 3: might start to get away from your game plan and
- 40:09Speaker 3: start to try to push the ball downfield instead of
- 40:12Speaker 3: doing playing to your strengths. So again, if you find
- 40:15Speaker 3: yourself being impatient, that really really is going to hurt
- 40:18Speaker 3: a team like Philly.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you're right. And also it's going to
- 40:22Speaker 5: cut down to coaching. I mean you've got to, you know,
- 40:25Speaker 5: really good head coaches out there, and you know it's
- 40:28Speaker 5: going to depend on who who's the most creative and
- 40:31Speaker 5: who has the most strategic play calling. I mean, Sirianni
- 40:35Speaker 5: is a good coach, but he's kind of fairly predictable.
- 40:38Speaker 5: I mean, you know what we're what the offense is
- 40:40Speaker 5: pretty much gonna do. But I'm telling you Andy Reid
- 40:43Speaker 5: and Mahomes, you just don't know what they've gotten their
- 40:45Speaker 5: in their pockets.
- 40:46Speaker 3: So but I think I'm I agree one hundred percent.
- 40:50Speaker 3: But what I will say is I think this game
- 40:53Speaker 3: may look like an old school football game.
- 40:56Speaker 4: I hope that more so than any other game.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Because even I mean Philly, even if if they can
- 41:04Speaker 3: substitute backs and still run the football, they got two backs,
- 41:10Speaker 3: so they're they're set up to rest one and go again.
- 41:15Speaker 3: So they're not saying we take him out. We got
- 41:17Speaker 3: to start throwing the ball. So now you can't. You
- 41:20Speaker 3: you have to defend. You have to defend the run.
- 41:24Speaker 3: If you're gonna beat Phillip.
- 41:25Speaker 4: It's gonna be interesting. It really, it really will be.
- 41:31Speaker 3: So all right, see you. You take care of be safe,
- 41:37Speaker 3: all right, coach, So I'll see you. So I want
- 41:41Speaker 3: to ask you about you know, obviously we had the
- 41:44Speaker 3: Pro Bowl this past weekend. You are a three time
- 41:47Speaker 3: Pro Bowler. What are just some of your highlights of
- 41:50Speaker 3: your Pro Bowl days? What are some things that come
- 41:54Speaker 3: to mind as you were playing in the game? And
- 41:56Speaker 3: I think you was it eighty seven, eighty eight, and
- 41:58Speaker 3: eighty nine, Yes, you may three consecutive, yes, correct? Okay,
- 42:02Speaker 3: so what are some of your highlights? What are the
- 42:03Speaker 3: some some of the things you remember about that time?
- 42:05Speaker 3: You know when people have asked me, like, you know what,
- 42:10Speaker 3: you know, which one was your favorite or whatever? Just
- 42:16Speaker 3: that first one, just the reality of that first one,
- 42:19Speaker 3: and you don't get. You don't get it doesn't become
- 42:22Speaker 3: a norm second and third year. You know what I'm saying,
- 42:25Speaker 3: It doesn't come norm You're still excited. But being in
- 42:29Speaker 3: being on that first one and being a starter in
- 42:31Speaker 3: each one of them, you know, that to me was
- 42:36Speaker 3: was special. And at that time, you're in you know,
- 42:40Speaker 3: it's the pro Bos in Hawaii. Yes, so was this
- 42:43Speaker 3: your first time? The first one was that's your first
- 42:45Speaker 3: time going to Hawaii? Yes, okay, so not only do
- 42:47Speaker 3: you get to play in the Pro Bow you know
- 42:49Speaker 3: you're all in Hawaii team, but you're in Hawaii as well.
- 42:51Speaker 3: And bro, I got fair, I got all kinds of
- 42:53Speaker 3: family there with me, family, everybody basically almost everybody came,
- 42:59Speaker 3: you know, and and again, and I think we I
- 43:03Speaker 3: think the winner, the winner got ten thousand and the yes,
- 43:08Speaker 3: that's that's that's it's totally different now. And then the
- 43:12Speaker 3: team that lost, I think got five thousand. So for me,
- 43:17Speaker 3: I was willing to forego my ten to make sure
- 43:20Speaker 3: all my things as many people who wanted to come,
- 43:23Speaker 3: was gonna come, and I'll pay that back on you know,
- 43:26Speaker 3: if we win, because I either got ten or five.
- 43:30Speaker 4: But man, it was, it was, it was.
- 43:32Speaker 3: It was just amazing just to see it, just to
- 43:34Speaker 3: be able to get out into town just walking around.
- 43:37Speaker 4: I mean, it was phenomenal.
- 43:39Speaker 3: But then the craziest thing is, like, you know, you're
- 43:45Speaker 3: playing like everybody you line up, you know, and fortunately
- 43:50Speaker 3: to be a starter in each one of them. You
- 43:53Speaker 3: start looking across the across the line, and everybody's a
- 43:59Speaker 3: name that you know. You look at the linebackers. You
- 44:03Speaker 3: got LT. I mean you got like everybody. You got
- 44:08Speaker 3: Ronnie for the first Well who did you?
- 44:10Speaker 4: Who was the name? So you play with l T?
- 44:12Speaker 4: Who else I had? There was h Ronnie Lott? Yes LT?
- 44:18Speaker 4: Your backer?
- 44:19Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, Chris Doleman, okay, Reggie White. Matter of fact,
- 44:25Speaker 3: I have Reggie White's helmet at home. We swapped helmets
- 44:29Speaker 3: because what they do is everybody swapped swapped helmets at
- 44:32Speaker 3: the Pro Bowl to try to get everybody's help. Now,
- 44:35Speaker 3: was that strategic you be lying the Reggie White? Or
- 44:37Speaker 3: you just happened to be near him? Trust me, he
- 44:39Speaker 3: ain't come to me and say I want no, Actually,
- 44:43Speaker 3: it just it just it just kind of happened.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Really.
- 44:48Speaker 3: He was looking and I was, you know, everybody was
- 44:50Speaker 3: trying to hang out, and he was like, you want
- 44:52Speaker 3: to swap Oh, let me think about that. Yeah, I
- 44:57Speaker 3: think I do, you know, and that kind of stuff
- 45:01Speaker 3: is just unbelievable, Like you can't. I'm starting on the
- 45:08Speaker 3: I think I was the left side corner and br you,
- 45:12Speaker 3: I'm looking down.
- 45:13Speaker 4: The line Bright, that's Reggie White.
- 45:16Speaker 3: I'm looking at the line back on the same side
- 45:19Speaker 3: and it's lt I'm looking at the safety and it's
- 45:22Speaker 3: Ronnie Lott. I'm like thinking, bro, I can tell you
- 45:26Speaker 3: the game plan for the AFC is going thirty nine
- 45:31Speaker 3: because everybody, I think I would almost make the case that.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Maybe everybody that started on and I.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Don't remember everybody's name, but I'm gonna say almost everybody
- 45:44Speaker 3: on that team, that first starting team.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Was a Hall of Fame player.
- 45:49Speaker 3: I mean, because when you look at the eighties during
- 45:52Speaker 3: that era, I mean, we had teams like the forty
- 45:55Speaker 3: nine ers, yeah, the Giants, they sort of ran the eighties. Yes,
- 45:58Speaker 3: those were the teas, So you know, it was it
- 46:01Speaker 3: was really about the NFC during the eighties.
- 46:03Speaker 4: It really was.
- 46:05Speaker 3: And again and I don't even know. I want to
- 46:08Speaker 3: I want to say, and I could be totally wrong.
- 46:10Speaker 3: So if somebody looks this up and says Carl was
- 46:12Speaker 3: lying on the show, I'm just I'm but I think
- 46:15Speaker 3: I don't think I lost a in those three years.
- 46:20Speaker 3: I think we won all three of my face Now,
- 46:23Speaker 3: how competitive were those games? Is this something like where
- 46:28Speaker 3: y'all fair, everybody you know had a couple of dreams,
- 46:31Speaker 3: and it's casual until the money, until you get like
- 46:35Speaker 3: it's it's it's everybody wants to play well, and everybody's
- 46:39Speaker 3: playing hard. But you know people are talking to you,
- 46:42Speaker 3: they're laughing at you know, they're laughing with you. And
- 46:44Speaker 3: that was Sterling's first I think that was Sterling's rookie season,
- 46:48Speaker 3: and he and he made the Pro Bowl, which is
- 46:50Speaker 3: where me and him kind of got together and became friends.
- 46:54Speaker 4: It's it's competitive game, but but.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Once you get down to the fourth quarter, the difference
- 47:00Speaker 3: between the ten and the five, if that game is
- 47:03Speaker 3: closed still now you're trying, you're trying to get to ten.
- 47:06Speaker 4: You don't want to fight. You didn't you didn't want
- 47:09Speaker 4: to five.
- 47:10Speaker 3: But and again, even though like you could sense the
- 47:14Speaker 3: temperature climbing toward the end of the game, you just can't.
- 47:20Speaker 3: You just can't look anywhere. There's nobody that's gonna come
- 47:25Speaker 3: out on my side as a receiver who's not great.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. And and and Brom.
- 47:33Speaker 3: I'm like I said, I'm sitting there thinking, man, they
- 47:35Speaker 3: gotta be throwing at me, you know, because so this
- 47:38Speaker 3: was a conscious thought, yes, because I'm like thinking, it's
- 47:41Speaker 3: my first Pro Bowl. Maybe they don't buy it, you know.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Darryl Green's on the other side. Okay, you know what
- 47:49Speaker 3: I'm saying, So I mean think about it. And on
- 47:52Speaker 3: the other side on the AFC, you had both of
- 47:55Speaker 3: the Chiefs corners, which are.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Both both of them were Pro Bowl, All Pro guys.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Two on the same team, and brother they on the
- 48:06Speaker 3: other side. But let's go to your defensive backfield one
- 48:09Speaker 3: secon because you just said something, So you had you
- 48:12Speaker 3: Darryl Green at the corners.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Joey Browner. Joey Browner was also in the Pro Bowl.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Okay, but who was your strong safety because Ronnie Lott
- 48:20Speaker 3: was free, Roddy was free, and Joey was strong.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Joey is strong.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Who was your so your Mike Becker would have been singletary, right? Yes,
- 48:28Speaker 3: so ye singletary of one backer? You had probably a
- 48:32Speaker 3: Lawrence Taylor at the strong Who was the weak side.
- 48:36Speaker 3: I'm trying to think who would have been? I mean
- 48:39Speaker 3: it's a plethoro. Yeah, yes, had you had Chris Doman
- 48:42Speaker 3: and Reggie White. Chris Doman, Reggie White, you know, I mean,
- 48:49Speaker 3: come on, just just those two.
- 48:50Speaker 4: Those were the sock masters of that era. It's wow.
- 48:55Speaker 3: So so so when we think about again, and I've
- 48:57Speaker 3: heard Kubbe Bryant, uh he said something about the NBA
- 49:02Speaker 3: like All Star Game and it's not competitive anymore. Obviously
- 49:06Speaker 3: said this before he passed away. So what are your
- 49:09Speaker 3: thoughts just kind of on the the the iteration of
- 49:12Speaker 3: it now where again, we've always had like the Pro
- 49:15Speaker 3: Bowl games as far as the competitions is, the races
- 49:18Speaker 3: who can throw the farthest? I think those are fun,
- 49:20Speaker 3: But now it's it's it's it's devolved into what now
- 49:24Speaker 3: is like a flag football game. So so what are
- 49:26Speaker 3: your thoughts just going to what it was and what
- 49:29Speaker 3: it is now. I can understand I can understand why
- 49:34Speaker 3: you you don't want to play a game.
- 49:38Speaker 4: I understand that.
- 49:39Speaker 3: And I'm not even talking about the players, but I'm
- 49:41Speaker 3: just talking about from a safety perspective. You know, you
- 49:43Speaker 3: got the best players in the league, and they're all
- 49:47Speaker 3: and they're they're out there playing. They don't want to
- 49:51Speaker 3: play hard because they don't want to risk getting an injury.
- 49:53Speaker 4: So then that game looks bad.
- 49:55Speaker 3: So now the league is like, okay, let's try to
- 49:57Speaker 3: figure out something else. But the worst thing, here's what
- 50:00Speaker 3: I hear. I don't buy into any of it. I
- 50:04Speaker 3: don't like any of it. As far as what like,
- 50:07Speaker 3: I don't. I don't like the flag. I don't like
- 50:09Speaker 3: the games because again it's not it's it's okay so me.
- 50:13Speaker 3: So if it's me and Darryl Green gonna be running in,
- 50:16Speaker 3: you know, for something, I don't care. Even if I
- 50:20Speaker 3: were to beat him, What am I getting like that?
- 50:23Speaker 3: That ain't that, that's nothing. That's not gonna be enough
- 50:25Speaker 3: for me to think I am the best player in
- 50:28Speaker 3: the league, you know, or I'm that best corner or whatever.
- 50:32Speaker 3: What I would prefer if you don't want to play flag,
- 50:36Speaker 3: if if flag should not.
- 50:38Speaker 4: Be the case, I would rather you just say this
- 50:43Speaker 4: list the all pro players. Just list them, just list them, and.
- 50:48Speaker 3: And and and and if you're not gonna play a game,
- 50:50Speaker 3: don't play.
- 50:51Speaker 4: So just do that. It's it's it's it's kind of
- 50:53Speaker 4: like All State, you.
- 50:55Speaker 3: Know, make it just like that, you know, and and
- 51:00Speaker 3: you could make it, you know, because there's All Pro
- 51:03Speaker 3: and then there's still the Pro Bowl, and that those
- 51:06Speaker 3: two things don't necessarily have to be the same. So
- 51:09Speaker 3: I would just make it all NFL teams, you know,
- 51:13Speaker 3: a f C, NFC and you and you risked them,
- 51:17Speaker 3: and you you list them.
- 51:18Speaker 4: And there is no game.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Now, if you want to do an actually all star game,
- 51:24Speaker 3: then you gotta you gotta then you then you got
- 51:26Speaker 3: to pick those players and they and you have to
- 51:28Speaker 3: have them play football. Now, I think, did you say
- 51:32Speaker 3: this to me or somebody said it? If anything, what
- 51:36Speaker 3: I would be okay with would be is, then Mike,
- 51:39Speaker 3: let's say that you you you took NBA All Stars,
- 51:44Speaker 3: NFL All Stars and had some kind of competition there.
- 51:50Speaker 3: I would be okay with that.
- 51:54Speaker 4: What did you do that? Though?
- 51:55Speaker 3: Well, I mean I think timing would probably be issue.
- 51:58Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's an interesting idea and it's not mine.
- 52:01Speaker 3: But somebody I was having this conversation with somebody, I
- 52:04Speaker 3: can't remember who it was, and when they brought it up,
- 52:06Speaker 3: I was like, you know, because you could even now
- 52:08Speaker 3: if you play flag football with the NFL All Stars,
- 52:13Speaker 3: NBA all the NBA. Yes, and then you go to
- 52:16Speaker 3: the court because we play basketball. Football player thinks they
- 52:20Speaker 3: can play basketball.
- 52:21Speaker 4: That's actually not a bad idea, you know, that.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Would be that would make sense to me. You know,
- 52:26Speaker 3: I play on your court, you play.
- 52:28Speaker 4: On my field. Yeah, that's not a bad idea. And
- 52:32Speaker 4: and and.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Then you know, and again we're playing flag for the football.
- 52:35Speaker 3: I would be okay with that because I'll make the
- 52:38Speaker 3: case that the NBA schurch there's gonna be some NBA
- 52:41Speaker 3: players man that can that can that that's gonna be
- 52:43Speaker 3: able to play. Yeah, I mean that that's actually not
- 52:47Speaker 3: a bad idea if I mean maybe huh yep, because
- 52:52Speaker 3: I mean, I guess would like because I know the
- 52:54Speaker 3: NBA All Stars coming up, so you can actually just
- 52:57Speaker 3: wait to.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Yeah, you can they can make that work. They can
- 52:59Speaker 4: make you.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Could play during the NBA All Star break and then
- 53:03Speaker 3: you can have it like that. That actually would be
- 53:04Speaker 3: kind of fun. I would think people would love watching it.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Do like a cross cross promotion between the two leagues
- 53:11Speaker 3: and can and and you're gonna have all kinds of
- 53:14Speaker 3: talking into that, which would make it even cooler, you
- 53:16Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, Like they're gonna talk smack, yeah,
- 53:19Speaker 3: you know. And and when you get on my field,
- 53:23Speaker 3: when you're in.
- 53:24Speaker 4: The football field.
- 53:24Speaker 3: So now I'm talking all this, you get on we
- 53:27Speaker 3: get on the basketball.
- 53:28Speaker 5: Bro.

- 53:30Speaker 4: you was talking. Let me see what you can.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Do now, you know. I think that would be That
- 53:36Speaker 3: would be the way to go. I'm with you on that.
- 53:40Speaker 3: I really might be the first time I'm with you
- 53:42Speaker 3: on that one. I think that would be fun. Yeah,
- 53:45Speaker 3: because I think it's better than what we've seen from
- 53:47Speaker 3: both you know, leagues, because none of the All Star
- 53:50Speaker 3: games are really you know, even if you look at
- 53:52Speaker 3: the NBA, you look at like, you know, it's fun
- 53:56Speaker 3: kind of when they pair it with the w NBA players,
- 53:59Speaker 3: But if you look like the Slam contest, even a
- 54:01Speaker 3: three point contest is eh, you know, and the game
- 54:04Speaker 3: is eh. So yeah, yeah, that would be fun. All right, Well,
