- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, hey angel fans, and welcome back to Halo Territory.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I am Mike D.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Giovanna, former Early Times Baseball writer and host of the show,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and in an effort to incorporate the perspective of fans
- 0:19Speaker 1: on Halo Territory, we brought back Breezy Nolan and Tyler Rios,
- 0:24Speaker 1: who have both been on the show before. Guys, welcome back.
- 0:28Speaker 1: How you guys doing today?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Doing great? Another beautiful.
- 0:35Speaker 2: So Breezy.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Breezy is a long time season ticket holder and fan.
- 0:39Speaker 1: They're both in their early to mid thirties, so that'll
- 0:42Speaker 1: give you sort of a time reference. Tyler is also
- 0:45Speaker 1: the assistant coach and assistant coach at Orange Coast College.
- 0:49Speaker 1: So let's get right into it, guys. A lot has
- 0:52Speaker 1: changed in the last two two and a half weeks.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Trade deadline came and jeez, it was seven big years went,
- 1:01Speaker 1: Seven Big leaders traded for nine prospects at the trade
- 1:04Speaker 1: deadline by interim GM John mosey Lock and a week
- 1:09Speaker 1: or so later, three all three pitching coaches, including highly
- 1:12Speaker 1: respected veteran Mike Maddox were fired. First question for both
- 1:16Speaker 1: of you, I will start with you, Breezy, on the
- 1:19Speaker 1: scale of optimism and pessimistic pessimism. What are you feeling
- 1:24Speaker 1: right now in terms of the short term and long
- 1:27Speaker 1: term future this franchise.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I think that this was a good strategic move on
- 1:36Speaker 4: Arty's part to give people like a little bit of
- 1:42Speaker 4: hope for the rest of the season. I think it
- 1:44Speaker 4: was more so just like a business move on his
- 1:47Speaker 4: part to somehow generate sales, because every game I've gone
- 1:51Speaker 4: to this past week, like unless there's a really big giveaway,
- 1:56Speaker 4: it is empty in the stands. And obviously I know
- 1:58Speaker 4: that already really cares about money, and so I think
- 2:03Speaker 4: it was like his his way of just trying to
- 2:05Speaker 4: get people in the seats. As far as like the
- 2:08Speaker 4: rest of the future of the Angels, like, I feel
- 2:12Speaker 4: pretty much the exact same. As long as Arti Marino
- 2:15Speaker 4: is still the owner of the Angels, We're in the
- 2:17Speaker 4: exact same position that we were before the trade deadline.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Wow, how about you, ty?
- 2:23Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, of course, you know, you see some
- 2:26Speaker 5: of the trades that happen, you know, it always starts
- 2:28Speaker 5: right down on the farm or with the youth of
- 2:31Speaker 5: the organization. So I mean it's it's of course nice
- 2:34Speaker 5: to see, you know. I think I may have said
- 2:36Speaker 5: it before, but you know it was different. So of
- 2:40Speaker 5: course different means change. Whether that's good or bad, it
- 2:44Speaker 5: really doesn't matter. I mean, it's been going bad, so
- 2:46Speaker 5: it is what it is. Uh But at the same time, yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 5: I mean with with Breezy for for sure. You know,
- 2:51Speaker 5: as long as as Artie's you know, the owner of
- 2:54Speaker 5: the of the Angels, I don't I don't know how
- 2:56Speaker 5: much better it it really is going to get.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:00Speaker 6: It's unfortunate, of.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Course, especially from the baseball standpoint, you know, but you know, realistically,
- 3:05Speaker 5: it is what it is.
- 3:07Speaker 6: We're gonna have to get back to.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I mean, some of the young guys I of course
- 3:11Speaker 5: follow all the Halos pages, but you know, some of
- 3:14Speaker 5: the young guys are playing, are playing pretty well down there,
- 3:16Speaker 5: you know, and it's kind of refreshing to see, you know,
- 3:19Speaker 5: so hopefully, you know, it's something that comes back and quickly,
- 3:23Speaker 5: of course, But at the same time, we've been rushing
- 3:25Speaker 5: our players up there and it's been taking some time
- 3:27Speaker 5: and people get, you know, upset because they don't perform
- 3:29Speaker 5: right away.
- 3:29Speaker 6: Well, you know, learn learning.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Baseball is hard, you know, in general, you know, trying
- 3:34Speaker 5: to do it at the big league level.
- 3:35Speaker 6: You know, I can't even imagine, right.
- 3:37Speaker 5: So realistically, you know, it's something to where Yeah, you know,
- 3:40Speaker 5: I'm it's definitely optimistic, but.
- 3:42Speaker 7: It's gonna be tough. And as long as I was
- 3:44Speaker 7: at the top.
- 3:45Speaker 1: What are our first impressions of the one guy who
- 3:47Speaker 1: did come right to the big leagues? Moiss Bilosteros, the Moballer.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I have to say, he's got a great nickname and
- 3:55Speaker 1: he's only twenty two years old. Tie of you from
- 3:58Speaker 1: what you've seen the five at the plate in the box?
- 4:03Speaker 2: Uh, what are you seeing there? Yeah?
- 4:06Speaker 5: You know, uh, very very baseball like stature, right, big
- 4:12Speaker 5: huge guy, No, not at all, but somewhere somewhere, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 5: I think if if you see him, see him in
- 4:19Speaker 5: the box, he you know, has a has a leg kick.
- 4:21Speaker 6: It's kind of big, kind of long.
- 4:23Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:24Speaker 6: I don't think it's amounted to so many struggles.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Of course he has, you know, tons of talent, but
- 4:29Speaker 5: but yeah, I think it's it's just from the short
- 4:32Speaker 5: sample size that I've been able to see. You know,
- 4:34Speaker 5: I try to watch as many games as possible. Uh,
- 4:37Speaker 5: sometimes it gets really tough, but realistically, yeah, you know,
- 4:40Speaker 5: just kind of kind of big there. I he has
- 4:42Speaker 5: thrown some guys off behind the plate, you know, I
- 4:45Speaker 5: like it, and I shortened compact their great arm. But yeah,
- 4:48Speaker 5: well we'll have to see how it goes. Like I said,
- 4:50Speaker 5: learning baseball is tough. I can't imagine at the big
- 4:53Speaker 5: league level to to try to get in there and then,
- 4:55Speaker 5: you know, prove something at the same time, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 5: show that you're you're supposed to be here, which you know,
- 5:00Speaker 5: we can get into a.
- 5:00Speaker 7: Whole spiral of that as well with the player, but realistic.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, yeah, I was surprised he's got a
- 5:06Speaker 1: really significant leg kick. The Cubs were in town earlier
- 5:10Speaker 1: this year and I did not remember that leg kick.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I remember him hitting a lot of balls hard, but
- 5:14Speaker 1: I didn't remember the leg kick for some reason. Doesn't
- 5:16Speaker 1: cut down on it with two strikes either, which was
- 5:18Speaker 1: a little surprised. Breezy, how you how are you feeling
- 5:21Speaker 1: about Moball or is he? Is he the Halo's Catcher
- 5:24Speaker 1: of the Future or d h of the Future or
- 5:26Speaker 1: maybe both.
- 5:29Speaker 4: I love him. He has good energy, definitely on the bandway,
- 5:36Speaker 4: kind of getting a hoppy out.
- 5:38Speaker 3: So the fact that we were able to.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Raise him with someone of you know, this amount of
- 5:46Speaker 4: talent I think is really really exciting. Like Tyler was saying, like,
- 5:51Speaker 4: I've seen him throw people out, which Logan had a
- 5:54Speaker 4: really hard time doing, so that automatically was a win.
- 5:59Speaker 4: And I've the games that I have seen him catching
- 6:03Speaker 4: the ABS system like when he he has like a
- 6:07Speaker 4: pretty good.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Read so far.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I don't know what his stats are, but I've been
- 6:10Speaker 4: to and I've seen that he's called he's he's been
- 6:15Speaker 4: right every time, and that I think is a really
- 6:18Speaker 4: big and impressive thing, all right.
- 6:20Speaker 8: And.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Which and yeah, yeah, yeah, he's a bad first catcher.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Mark Trumbull, my co hosts and I've talked on a
- 6:32Speaker 1: show last week about how his physique will affect him
- 6:36Speaker 1: moving forward. He's a big boy, There's no getting around that.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I do worry if I'm the Ames a little bit,
- 6:44Speaker 1: if he's, you know, not able to lose a few pounds,
- 6:47Speaker 1: that he might be limited to only catching fifty sixty
- 6:50Speaker 1: games a year. You'd like your catcher to at least
- 6:52Speaker 1: catch half, if not one hundred games. I don't think
- 6:55Speaker 1: you don't necessarily need to be cal rally last year
- 6:58Speaker 1: catching one hundred and twenty one hundred and thirty. It
- 7:00Speaker 1: seems a little crazy, but anytime you can have that
- 7:03Speaker 1: kind of bat behind the plate, I think as a
- 7:06Speaker 1: two way player, it's going to be a huge benefit
- 7:08Speaker 1: to the Angels. So we're gonna turn our attention to
- 7:11Speaker 1: John mozaylock the interim GM and John had a pretty
- 7:16Speaker 1: busy trade deadline, and I want to bring up this
- 7:18Speaker 1: tweet that Breezy actually wrote in the wake of the
- 7:24Speaker 1: trade deadline. Imagine if this is our GM when we
- 7:27Speaker 1: had Showy and she's referring obviously to twenty twenty three
- 7:33Speaker 1: when the Angel probably not probably they should have traded
- 7:37Speaker 1: Showy with tany man they could have. They could have
- 7:40Speaker 1: taken a giant lead forward on the rebuild that they
- 7:44Speaker 1: just started. What did you sort of what were you
- 7:47Speaker 1: what was behind that tweet?
- 7:50Speaker 2: Breezy?
- 7:50Speaker 1: And how do we feel about John? You know, mo
- 7:54Speaker 1: maybe staying here a long term. He's what I see
- 7:58Speaker 1: as a guy who's making a lot of moves, who
- 8:00Speaker 1: doesn't look like he's gonna leave in December. I don't know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: maybe it's just me, but would you like to see
- 8:05Speaker 1: him stay beyond December in some capacity?
- 8:08Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean I've heard that he was. That's why
- 8:13Speaker 4: he came like it wasn't. For just the rest of
- 8:16Speaker 4: the season, I've been hearing that, you know, he was
- 8:20Speaker 4: definitely the guy up next in line, and that Albert
- 8:26Speaker 4: Pooholds his name is getting tossed around to be the
- 8:30Speaker 4: GA or to be the manager, and you know, I
- 8:32Speaker 4: don't know. Everything is always talk, but as far as
- 8:36Speaker 4: the tweek goes, I was just trying to get aroused
- 8:38Speaker 4: out of everybody.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 8:41Speaker 4: There's no world in which anything would have changed as
- 8:45Speaker 4: long as Artie Marina was the owner. And it doesn't
- 8:49Speaker 4: matter who was sitting there telling him like no, you
- 8:52Speaker 4: need to trade show hey, Like he wasn't gonna get it.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I just you know, the.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Possibilities are obviously crazy to still think about today of
- 9:02Speaker 4: what our organization could be like today if show what
- 9:07Speaker 4: we would be in such a different place, and so
- 9:11Speaker 4: you know, it always gets a big rise out of
- 9:13Speaker 4: Twitter people when you bring It's just it was an
- 9:17Speaker 4: exciting day to see that we had a GM come
- 9:19Speaker 4: in and like.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Fully go full throttle.
- 9:23Speaker 4: I didn't get to see the interview with Mike Trout,
- 9:25Speaker 4: but I saw like little clips here and there where
- 9:27Speaker 4: he was like, you know, he came in and he
- 9:31Speaker 4: asked Trout what does he think? And I thought that
- 9:34Speaker 4: that was really cool. You know, go to Trout and
- 9:35Speaker 4: ask him. He's the only person that's really been there
- 9:38Speaker 4: through it all and knows since has seen what is
- 9:44Speaker 4: really going on, you know, so I really liked that.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I hope he stays all right.
- 9:49Speaker 1: We're gonna take a quick break for word from our sponsors,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and on the other side, we'll get Tyler's opinion about
- 9:54Speaker 1: the interim at least for now.
- 9:57Speaker 2: General manager.

- 11:00Speaker 1: And welcome back to Hitlo Territory with Breezy Nolan, Tyler
- 11:03Speaker 1: Rilis and Mike Di Giovanna. Wel tie, we will go
- 11:06Speaker 1: to you. How are you feeling about Mo as the GM?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Would you like to see him stay on in some
- 11:11Speaker 1: capacity after his contract expires in December.
- 11:17Speaker 5: I would definitely love to see him stay on, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 5: past the contract. I mean realistically, you know, you could
- 11:23Speaker 5: take a look at his you know, his resume, you know, again,
- 11:26Speaker 5: a baseball guy that understand what needs to be done
- 11:30Speaker 5: to succeed organizationally, realistically, you know, also being able to.
- 11:37Speaker 6: You know, have some relation with players.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Like I mean, being able to be the GM with
- 11:43Speaker 5: aubertpoolholtst there right through the prime of his career. And
- 11:46Speaker 5: then you know, obviously I don't want to say the
- 11:48Speaker 5: back end of Trout's you know, career, but later on
- 11:51Speaker 5: in Trout's career, you know, being able to be around
- 11:53Speaker 5: another player like that, that has meant so much to
- 11:56Speaker 5: that to the organization. You know, it's it's something where
- 12:01Speaker 5: if you get that type of mind in to the organization,
- 12:06Speaker 5: it you know, in a good way, infiltrates it and
- 12:09Speaker 5: starts to make it so that we can bring the
- 12:13Speaker 5: youth up, bring the prospects up, hopefully have some type
- 12:16Speaker 5: of standard. You know, I'm not saying that they don't now,
- 12:18Speaker 5: but you know, a different standard and how we do
- 12:20Speaker 5: it nowadays, and this is how it's going to be done.
- 12:23Speaker 6: You know. That's that's a huge thing when it.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Comes whether it's a program in college or like I said,
- 12:28Speaker 5: a professional organization to have some type of baseball mind
- 12:32Speaker 5: like that, you know, to to help say what what
- 12:34Speaker 5: needs to be done. I mean again, he has experience,
- 12:37Speaker 5: he has a resume, he knows what he's doing. So
- 12:39Speaker 5: you know, to have somebody that it's not a first
- 12:42Speaker 5: first year GM or first time job, you know, it's
- 12:44Speaker 5: kind of relieving it in terms of a fans perspective
- 12:47Speaker 5: for sure.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Well, speaking of first time ors Kurt Suzuki. We both
- 12:54Speaker 1: you both mentioned Albert Poolhols as a potential manager, and
- 12:56Speaker 1: we brought him up on the show as well. What
- 12:58Speaker 1: are your guys assessment and a Kurt this year? Does
- 13:01Speaker 1: he have the managerial chops to stick in the job
- 13:04Speaker 1: or do you guys think.
- 13:05Speaker 2: The Angels need a new manager next year?
- 13:07Speaker 1: Breezy shaking her head already.
- 13:14Speaker 4: No, I don't want to see Kurtzuzuki be a manager
- 13:18Speaker 4: for my team ever. Again, I think that he is
- 13:23Speaker 4: probably a really, really nice guy, and he just seems
- 13:26Speaker 4: like an absolute pushover. I've seen the Angels have so
- 13:32Speaker 4: many managers at this point, and like the ones who
- 13:35Speaker 4: are quiet and almost mouse like, like, the players just
- 13:38Speaker 4: seem like they don't really respect them.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I also think that.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Now that we're in a full rebuild, like we need
- 13:47Speaker 4: somebody who and as much as I think Albert Pooles's
- 13:52Speaker 4: name is getting thrown around, like I do believe that
- 13:55Speaker 4: we need somebody who has done this a lot. Like
- 13:59Speaker 4: I was excited about Ron Washington for a you know,
- 14:04Speaker 4: a lot of reasons, but he is so well respected
- 14:08Speaker 4: by players, Like That's what I think that this organization needs.
- 14:12Speaker 4: If we're going to be in a full rebuild, like
- 14:15Speaker 4: you need somebody that is going to be harsh yet
- 14:19Speaker 4: well respected. And I think that that's like a big
- 14:24Speaker 4: reason why Zach Netto has probably fallen off a lot.
- 14:27Speaker 4: You know, last year he was really good under Ron Washington,
- 14:33Speaker 4: who constantly was out there working with the guys, like
- 14:36Speaker 4: I personally do not see Kurtzuzuki doing that in any way,
- 14:40Speaker 4: shape or form. I think they maybe hired him on
- 14:43Speaker 4: to help Logan Ohoppy that clearly didn't help, didn't work.
- 14:48Speaker 4: So I would definitely like to see our manager be
- 14:51Speaker 4: someone who is much more focused on the infield. Again,
- 14:56Speaker 4: I think that it's such a young group of really
- 14:59Speaker 4: really to talented guys and they deserve it.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Tyler, what do you say?
- 15:05Speaker 5: Uh, you know, I completely agree. You know, I was
- 15:08Speaker 5: a huge fan of Ron Washington. Of course, I'm an
- 15:11Speaker 5: infield coach, so you know that is something where I
- 15:14Speaker 5: take a lot of pride in it most infield coaches,
- 15:16Speaker 5: do you know, just so to see that, Yeah, Breezy,
- 15:20Speaker 5: it is something where uh you know, now you're talking
- 15:22Speaker 5: about like relationship with players, right, Like you said, he's
- 15:26Speaker 5: Ron Washington's there. You see Zach Nettle kind of sprout
- 15:29Speaker 5: a little bit. Of course, Ron Washington is you know,
- 15:32Speaker 5: one of the if not the guru you know of
- 15:35Speaker 5: course for infield play. So you know, you do obviously
- 15:39Speaker 5: have that sense of all right now I'm really you know,
- 15:42Speaker 5: going to be able to learn and and it's as
- 15:45Speaker 5: I'm going through the coaching process and things like that.
- 15:48Speaker 6: It's it's about them understanding like what they really can do.
- 15:51Speaker 7: You know.
- 15:51Speaker 5: I mean, Zach Netto is still young, young kid too.
- 15:54Speaker 5: I know, you know, we're probably gonna get more into
- 15:56Speaker 5: him little bit later. But you know, like I said,
- 15:58Speaker 5: you're talking about the relatelationships that managers and coaches have
- 16:02Speaker 5: with their players that really, you know, changes the way
- 16:05Speaker 5: they go about things. You know, for sure, like you said,
- 16:08Speaker 5: if if there's guys that don't put in the work,
- 16:11Speaker 5: you know, coaches, players, then yeah, you kind of start
- 16:14Speaker 5: to you know, see yourself fall down into that that
- 16:17Speaker 5: you know, slippery slope realistically. But you know, once you
- 16:22Speaker 5: get a coach in there that kind of understands how
- 16:24Speaker 5: you do it, how you play, how to communicate with you.
- 16:27Speaker 5: You know, not everybody's the same either, so understanding how
- 16:30Speaker 5: to communicate with you and then understanding how to communicate
- 16:32Speaker 5: with your peers and teammates.
- 16:34Speaker 7: It really plays a huge factor, you know, into that
- 16:37Speaker 7: as well.
- 16:37Speaker 5: So, you know, I think that being a first year manager,
- 16:41Speaker 5: you know, it's hard to fully criticize. But at the
- 16:43Speaker 5: same time, there are baseball plays and things like that
- 16:47Speaker 5: that I I and moves that I personally believe if
- 16:50Speaker 5: you're you know, in the game and you know it,
- 16:51Speaker 5: which I know he does.
- 16:53Speaker 6: But you know, making the.
- 16:54Speaker 7: Decisions and choices is also hard.
- 16:56Speaker 5: So you know, at the same time, I would love
- 16:58Speaker 5: to see somebody a little bit more experienced that can
- 17:00Speaker 5: you know, guide these guys and the younger, you know,
- 17:02Speaker 5: youth through the organization and through the major league process.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I've made my feelings about Kurt very clear, and
- 17:09Speaker 1: for the record, Breezy, he's an extremely nice guy.
- 17:12Speaker 2: That is not an issue.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I feel he's sometimes too nice in terms of the
- 17:16Speaker 1: handling of some of the things we saw earlier, especially
- 17:19Speaker 1: earlier in the season. But I'm not sure he's the
- 17:22Speaker 1: right guy moving forward for this team. One guy we
- 17:26Speaker 1: haven't really brought up his name. You talked about the
- 17:29Speaker 1: importance of having a guy he's done it before. I
- 17:31Speaker 1: don't know if there's any way to get him out
- 17:33Speaker 1: of his contract. But skip Schumacher. The Rangers manager is
- 17:35Speaker 1: an Orange County guy, grew up here. I know he
- 17:38Speaker 1: loves it out here. He probably you know, he wouldn't
- 17:41Speaker 1: say this on the record. I talked to him when
- 17:44Speaker 1: the Rangers were in town last week, not about this specifically,
- 17:46Speaker 1: but it's pretty clear he loves Orange County. And if
- 17:49Speaker 1: this opportunity were to arise somehow, who knows, maybe the
- 17:52Speaker 1: Rangers will fall flat on their faces and he gets fired.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You just don't know what's gonna happen over these last
- 17:57Speaker 1: few weeks. But keep that name in the back of
- 17:59Speaker 1: your head.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Now.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You brought up zach Netto.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He's been a lightning rod uh for criticism and praise,
- 18:07Speaker 1: uh for criticism, for his inconsistent play. And then there's
- 18:12Speaker 1: plenty of people, UH who believe he's, you know, a
- 18:15Speaker 1: franchise type player, a guy you want to build around,
- 18:18Speaker 1: a perennial All star. Sometimes he's both of those things
- 18:21Speaker 1: in the same night. Where do you guys stand on
- 18:24Speaker 1: the mercurial shortstop? Should should the Angels build around him?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Or should they look to trade him? And you know,
- 18:32Speaker 1: continue a pretty significant rebuild by doing so this winter Wheelink.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Breezy, I wore my Neme Zach Meadow t shirt.
- 18:44Speaker 2: So you're as Zach Meto guy. Huh yeah, all right.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I Like I was just saying, uh, you know, when
- 18:54Speaker 4: I saw him under Ron Washington, it felt like a
- 18:57Speaker 4: completely different player. And and I also think that his
- 19:02Speaker 4: interviews have been really telling with how he's been feeling
- 19:05Speaker 4: about the coaching staff and also the trade deadline. Like
- 19:10Speaker 4: these things are and like what Tyler was saying with
- 19:13Speaker 4: the trade deadline and nobody really knowing you know, what's
- 19:17Speaker 4: what's gonna happen and where they're going to be. And
- 19:20Speaker 4: I understand, like you have to say like, oh you
- 19:22Speaker 4: need to be professional about it, blah blah blah blah blah.
- 19:24Speaker 3: But like these people got moved up so.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Fast, Nolan Shanawell, Zach Knata, Like I mean, so many
- 19:31Speaker 4: of our players have just completely skipped over, you know,
- 19:36Speaker 4: being in the minor league system. And I don't know,
- 19:41Speaker 4: Like I just I have a lot of I have
- 19:45Speaker 4: a lot of faith that if the right person came
- 19:47Speaker 4: in and actually worked with him the way Ron Washington
- 19:52Speaker 4: was working with him, I think he is someone that
- 19:56Speaker 4: we absolutely should not like go of no way. I
- 20:00Speaker 4: think that would be another big like show heyo tany moment.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Obviously I'm not saying he's like showyo Tony, but like
- 20:06Speaker 4: one of the or you he goes off, it's like
- 20:08Speaker 4: a Brandon marsh moment. There you go, that's a better
- 20:11Speaker 4: way of putting Brandon Marshcott moved over to the Phillies
- 20:15Speaker 4: and look at him now, like under the right coaching staff,
- 20:18Speaker 4: someone came in this season, saw what he was doing wrong,
- 20:21Speaker 4: corrected his swing, and he's crushing it, you know, Like
- 20:24Speaker 4: I think that's all Jack needs, and and some stability,
- 20:29Speaker 4: right like knowing that this organization is in a rebuild
- 20:33Speaker 4: around him, Like what a level of confidence that would
- 20:36Speaker 4: bring to somebody.
- 20:37Speaker 1: So should be noted that the Angels did acquire a
- 20:41Speaker 1: very good young shortstop prospect in the Soriano deal with
- 20:44Speaker 1: the Blue Jayson in the Mall. Yeah, had a pretty
- 20:47Speaker 1: good debut.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I guess he.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Got a cut on his hand or something and he's
- 20:51Speaker 1: been out for a little bit. But Tyler, are you
- 20:54Speaker 1: you team Zach Nettar or what where are you standing
- 20:58Speaker 1: on this?
- 20:58Speaker 5: Uh?
- 21:00Speaker 6: Yeah, so you know I don't wanted to get it twisted.
- 21:02Speaker 5: I know, the last time I was on the podcast,
- 21:04Speaker 5: it was a little bit more harsh. Uh, you know,
- 21:07Speaker 5: feel against Netto. That that is completely coming from a
- 21:11Speaker 5: guy who who loves Zach Netto in terms of the
- 21:13Speaker 5: way he plays, uh, you know, and what he can
- 21:15Speaker 5: bring to the Angels, what he has brought to the Angels. Realistically,
- 21:20Speaker 5: that's it, you know, It's it's more of we we
- 21:23Speaker 5: know what you can do. You know, there's a little
- 21:25Speaker 5: bit of flash there once in a while, which that's
- 21:27Speaker 5: totally fine, you know, but yeah, yeah, I think these
- 21:31Speaker 5: this past season and some of the struggles that he
- 21:34Speaker 5: has gone through, nothing too crazy. But you know, of
- 21:37Speaker 5: course we could bring up the one big number, right
- 21:40Speaker 5: the strikeouts. It is kind of tough because you know,
- 21:45Speaker 5: in I want to say, in the college level, at
- 21:48Speaker 5: the college level, like you were trying to teach guys
- 21:52Speaker 5: to to be as consistent as possible. Right, So again,
- 21:56Speaker 5: I know we're talking about major league level college level,
- 22:00Speaker 5: but realistically baseball is still done the same way and
- 22:05Speaker 5: if you're if you're really trying to to play your game,
- 22:08Speaker 5: you know, Zach Nett, I'm not going to say, like
- 22:10Speaker 5: take the power away.
- 22:11Speaker 6: He's he's for.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Sure a twenty twenty, twenty five, twenty five, you know,
- 22:16Speaker 5: even more than that. But realistically, those those come when
- 22:19Speaker 5: you have the correct mindset and the correct mentality. Yes,
- 22:23Speaker 5: it's probably been tough, more tough this year because he
- 22:26Speaker 5: did have a good, really good relationship with Ron Washington
- 22:29Speaker 5: and that's kind of gone. So now you're trying to
- 22:32Speaker 5: feel out a new coach, especially, you know, think about
- 22:34Speaker 5: this a manager that you actually played with, right and
- 22:38Speaker 5: now you're playing four. So that's also a different type
- 22:42Speaker 5: of dynamic as well. You know, who knows what the
- 22:45Speaker 5: how they've gone about it behind closed doors. You know,
- 22:47Speaker 5: it could be hey, man, you know, I'm your manager now,
- 22:50Speaker 5: so we were not this you know, same, or it
- 22:52Speaker 5: could be a total friend relationship to which may not
- 22:55Speaker 5: always benefit the player either, you know, So it just
- 22:58Speaker 5: all depends on on that. We obviously don't don't really
- 23:01Speaker 5: know much of that, but yeah, you know, I I
- 23:04Speaker 5: think that he'll look back at it. You know, he's
- 23:07Speaker 5: he wants to be the best at obviously his position,
- 23:11Speaker 5: what he does, but every time he steps on the field,
- 23:13Speaker 5: so he's gonna look back at it and probably make
- 23:15Speaker 5: some adjustments.
- 23:16Speaker 7: He's capable of it.
- 23:17Speaker 5: He came up with the lake kick, you know when
- 23:19Speaker 5: he first got here and obviously you know, was shortening
- 23:21Speaker 5: it up with two strikes, and then he ended up
- 23:24Speaker 5: figuring or getting onto something and was like, now you
- 23:27Speaker 5: know what, I'm gonna take it away totally now, you know.
- 23:30Speaker 6: So he's he's capable of making the adjustments.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Uh, you know, what feels comfortable and what ends up
- 23:35Speaker 5: happening is of course up to him, for sure.
- 23:37Speaker 1: We could take one more quick break for a word
- 23:39Speaker 1: from our sponsors and we come back. We'll talk a
- 23:41Speaker 1: little Nolan Shanoel and Mike Trout.

- 24:45Speaker 1: And welcome back to HLO territory with Breezy Noan, Tyler
- 24:48Speaker 1: Rios and Mike DG.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Vonna Well, I've gon.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Catch a little heat the last few days for my
- 24:53Speaker 1: take on Nolan Shana Well from last week. I basically said,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I think he's a really nice bat ball skills guy,
- 25:01Speaker 1: hits for average, you know, not very fast. He can't
- 25:05Speaker 1: be a leadoff guy, I thought, you know, I basically
- 25:07Speaker 1: said he'd be a really nice number seven hitter on
- 25:10Speaker 1: a good team that needs a first baseman. And then
- 25:16Speaker 1: Nolan goes and have what is a four RB night
- 25:18Speaker 1: four RBI night against the Royals on Friday, and then
- 25:22Speaker 1: he has a game winning hit on Saturday. It's like,
- 25:24Speaker 1: we need contact. We don't need all these launch angle guys.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And I'm not saying there's not a place for Nolan
- 25:30Speaker 1: Shallowell on this team, but I just feel like if
- 25:33Speaker 1: he's not going to hit for any power, they need
- 25:36Speaker 1: to be upgrade a little.
- 25:37Speaker 2: And I did get an.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Interesting comment from a fan on x and he said,
- 25:45Speaker 1: Nolan is Casey Kochman two point oh. Now, I don't
- 25:48Speaker 1: know if you guys were old enough to remember Casey Kachman.
- 25:51Speaker 1: He was a first baseman in the early two thousands.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Left handed as Nolan was decent defensive player, not a
- 25:58Speaker 1: goal glover, very little speed, very good contact skills, not
- 26:02Speaker 1: a lot of power. Cot Shit two seventy four with
- 26:05Speaker 1: a seven sixty two ops and about five seams with
- 26:08Speaker 1: the Angels averaged ten or twelve homers a year sixty
- 26:11Speaker 1: five to seventy five RBIs a year Nolan two sixty
- 26:16Speaker 1: four with a seven thirty ops in his three plus
- 26:19Speaker 1: years of the Angels averaging about you know, he is
- 26:23Speaker 1: like a ten to twelve homer guy with forty five
- 26:25Speaker 1: to fifty five are RBIs. So no one has a
- 26:28Speaker 1: better on base than Kachman. Did Kachman hit for a
- 26:30Speaker 1: little more power. But it's a pretty darn good comp
- 26:33Speaker 1: right now. And what happened with Casey Kouchman. The Angels
- 26:37Speaker 1: had a great team in two thousand and eight. They
- 26:39Speaker 1: knew they needed to get better to win a World Series.
- 26:41Speaker 1: They traded him for Mark to Schera, and you know,
- 26:44Speaker 1: Mark ended up leaving after that year for the Yankees.
- 26:47Speaker 1: But I personally thought the Angels won a World Series
- 26:50Speaker 1: in two two thousand and eight was their best team.
- 26:53Speaker 1: They just got cold at the wrong time. I think
- 26:55Speaker 1: that team was the best Angels team in history, and
- 26:58Speaker 1: they and they lost them to Division Series. Just happens.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Where do you guys stand on Nolan? Is that in
- 27:05Speaker 1: an area you feel like they need to upgrade or
- 27:09Speaker 1: if they can build a team around him, Is his.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Lack of power a little more acceptable?
- 27:15Speaker 4: Breezy once you start, okay, I was like, I've gone
- 27:19Speaker 4: first every time.
- 27:23Speaker 3: I like Nolan.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I don't think he's you know, I don't feel like
- 27:29Speaker 4: he's the player that any team is going to.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Write home about. You know, he's he's he is he
- 27:39Speaker 3: is who he is.
- 27:40Speaker 4: You know, he was exciting when he first he got
- 27:43Speaker 4: on base. What was that like twenty eight games something
- 27:46Speaker 4: like that, and there was a lot of excitement around him.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Do I wish that he would have stayed in the
- 27:52Speaker 4: minors a lot longer and developed a lot longer, Yes, absolutely,
- 27:59Speaker 4: But for not doing that, I think he's done a
- 28:02Speaker 4: great job. Yet again, I think if we get a
- 28:05Speaker 4: different manager in there who works with the in field,
- 28:08Speaker 4: I think he's going to be.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Even better.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Defensively, I think someone like Meckler right now is showing
- 28:16Speaker 4: us that, like, you don't necessarily need to hit for power.
- 28:18Speaker 4: But man, oh man, is it great that he is
- 28:20Speaker 4: so incredibly fast? You know that that is something that
- 28:24Speaker 4: I think that Nolan is really missing. You know, he
- 28:29Speaker 4: he has little bloopers, but then he doesn't get anywhere,
- 28:32Speaker 4: you know, so I don't know. I when it was
- 28:35Speaker 4: during the trade deal bline, it was kind of one
- 28:36Speaker 4: of those if we get something good for him, cool
- 28:39Speaker 4: if not cool, I don't know, I'm not Yeah, how.
- 28:44Speaker 2: About you tell.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Uh yeah, Mike when you when you had you know
- 28:49Speaker 5: said oh Casey Kotchman two point oh.
- 28:51Speaker 7: I was like, well they ended up flipping him from
- 28:53Speaker 7: Mark to Shara.
- 28:54Speaker 5: So you know that's that's one and then and then
- 28:57Speaker 5: obviously Mark Mark leaves and then you know, I think
- 29:00Speaker 5: Kendrick's Morales was next up realistically until the you know incident.
- 29:04Speaker 5: So I mean, I don't dislike Shawnawall. I I do
- 29:09Speaker 5: like the baseball that he does does play, uh you know,
- 29:13Speaker 5: every now and again. He has made some good game
- 29:16Speaker 5: saving defensive plays. I believe in one of the one
- 29:19Speaker 5: of his web gems was in in Minnesota, I believe, Yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 7: Line drive bas loaded.
- 29:24Speaker 5: I think it was line drive, you know, jumped up,
- 29:26Speaker 5: caught it, not like he yeah, he you know.
- 29:28Speaker 6: He plays some good baseball.
- 29:31Speaker 5: But realistically, you know, when you're constructing the lineup and
- 29:34Speaker 5: you're you're looking at where you're gonna put your first baseman,
- 29:36Speaker 5: it's usually right in the middle of the lineup because
- 29:38Speaker 5: he has some thumb.
- 29:40Speaker 6: But Shawnawall is a little bit different.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Now I'm not saying that other you know, types of
- 29:45Speaker 5: first baseman's uh you know, can't exist, but realistically.
- 29:48Speaker 6: More often than not, when you're looking at your one
- 29:50Speaker 6: b you're.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Probably going to be driving some guys in and putting
- 29:54Speaker 5: some balls over the fence, not saying that I ever
- 29:56Speaker 5: want to, you know, uh, ask for a bad B
- 30:00Speaker 5: average or low batting average, but at the same time,
- 30:03Speaker 5: some adequate defense, some thump in the bat is usually
- 30:07Speaker 5: what you're you know, you're looking for of course at
- 30:09Speaker 5: the one B. So it's I've said that to a
- 30:12Speaker 5: lot of my angel friends that since the day we
- 30:15Speaker 5: drafted him. Not that I was ever doubting them, but
- 30:17Speaker 5: it was like, Okay, we're either going to have to
- 30:19Speaker 5: get ready for a different type of one bee or
- 30:22Speaker 5: we end up going away and trying to.
- 30:24Speaker 7: Figure out what we really do need there, right.
- 30:27Speaker 5: So you know, I would love love some more power
- 30:29Speaker 5: there at that at that position.
- 30:31Speaker 7: But do like the way he plays baseball for sure?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah, some people were some fans were telling me always
- 30:36Speaker 1: like John Olerude or Mark Grace or even JT. Snow
- 30:39Speaker 1: And I actually looked it up. Those guys hit for
- 30:41Speaker 1: more power. They didn't hit five to ten homers a year.
- 30:44Speaker 1: They were up in the teams and close to twenty
- 30:46Speaker 1: so and JT was a Gold Glove first baseman. Moving
- 30:50Speaker 1: on to Mike Trout, another sort of polarizing player for
- 30:54Speaker 1: for not the wrong reasons or anything. It's just this
- 30:57Speaker 1: whole debate of whether you know, we as an Angel fan,
- 31:02Speaker 1: would you would you rather Trout finish his career in
- 31:06Speaker 1: Anaheim even if he never made the playoffs, or would
- 31:09Speaker 1: you rather see him go to a contender and see
- 31:12Speaker 1: would just like to see Mike Trout play in October
- 31:14Speaker 1: again because the first time back in twenty fourteen, he
- 31:16Speaker 1: was he was still a kid and is not a
- 31:19Speaker 1: good experience, and I'm sure it motivated him to get
- 31:22Speaker 1: back there and he has never gotten back there. So
- 31:24Speaker 1: ty Ty will start with you this time. Where do
- 31:27Speaker 1: you stand on that one?
- 31:29Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, I'm gonna be selfish and say I
- 31:31Speaker 5: say I want I want him to be here for
- 31:33Speaker 5: the you know, entirety of his career.
- 31:36Speaker 7: Would be awesome to see him in playoff baseball, sure,
- 31:39Speaker 7: but not for another team at all.
- 31:42Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:43Speaker 5: That's that's how I feel as the fan, right like
- 31:45Speaker 5: it's Mike Trout. Unfortunately, you know, it's gone the way
- 31:49Speaker 5: it's it's gone, you know, but hopefully again, Yeah, like
- 31:53Speaker 5: getting better right now may not be in the cards,
- 31:56Speaker 5: but yeah, I don't I do not want to see
- 31:58Speaker 5: him go anywhere. Of course, everybody talked about Philly, right,
- 32:02Speaker 5: and I get it. I totally understand it, right, but no, yeah,
- 32:06Speaker 5: I'm gonna be selfish on that one.
- 32:09Speaker 6: Say I wanted to be.
- 32:12Speaker 2: How about you, Breezy, I.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Feel the exact same way. I think that I have
- 32:20Speaker 4: those moments where I think Trout went like four for
- 32:23Speaker 4: four or not we went four for five the other night.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I think are watching, I'm.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Like, I can't wait till like I'm in you know,
- 32:36Speaker 4: my fifty sixty cent whatever, And I guess feel like
- 32:39Speaker 4: watch Mike Trout's entire career like that fan perspective is
- 32:45Speaker 4: going to be one of the coolest things that I
- 32:48Speaker 4: will get to say about the Angels, like sitting through
- 32:51Speaker 4: these horrific games like the silver Lining, always getting to
- 32:57Speaker 4: watch Mike Trout, you know yeah, And I will say, like,
- 33:02Speaker 4: you know, I was totally like just I don't want
- 33:07Speaker 4: to say I was hating on him, but like it
- 33:09Speaker 4: was frustrating with how many injuries he was getting over
- 33:12Speaker 4: the past five years.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Yeah, to be able to have a.
- 33:16Speaker 4: Relatively healthy year, Like, I'm absolutely now going to be
- 33:19Speaker 4: selfish and be like, no, I think he if he
- 33:22Speaker 4: wants to stay, why would we ever want him to go?
- 33:24Speaker 4: That doesn't even make.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Sense to me.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Fair enough, Yeah, all right, last question the tarts off guys.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Do any of you know any of these guys personally.
- 33:35Speaker 1: If so, what sort of I've been amazed and quite impressed.
- 33:40Speaker 1: It hasn't been as strong this last home stand, but
- 33:43Speaker 1: they were back. They've been, you know, some nights are
- 33:46Speaker 1: out there in full force. What has kept this movement going?
- 33:50Speaker 1: What are their objectives? And do you guys feel it's
- 33:53Speaker 1: having any impact. Let's start with you, Tyler.
- 33:59Speaker 5: I guess there's some type of impact. I mean, obviously
- 34:03Speaker 5: it's like it's seen. I was at the game they
- 34:07Speaker 5: were playing. It was a Tuesday night against the Cardinals,
- 34:09Speaker 5: and yeah, they were out there and they were going
- 34:12Speaker 5: strong for sure, But no, I don't know any of
- 34:16Speaker 5: them personally, at least if they're there, I don't know
- 34:19Speaker 5: that they're there.
- 34:20Speaker 7: But but yeah.
- 34:21Speaker 5: No, I mean, like I said, I think it's something
- 34:24Speaker 5: that's to be seen. Of course, we all want the
- 34:27Speaker 5: same thing. For sure, You're not going to catch me
- 34:30Speaker 5: with my T shirt off waving it out there, but
- 34:33Speaker 5: you know we all want the same thing. So if
- 34:36Speaker 5: if they're willing to go out there and try to
- 34:38Speaker 5: I guess rebel a little bit and make make a move,
- 34:42Speaker 5: then I'm cool with it.
- 34:43Speaker 7: Man, Definitely we.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Need some change, for sure.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I was gonna make a joke every time I go
- 34:52Speaker 4: to the game with one of my dad's friends, so
- 34:55Speaker 4: I was like, Oh, is that you know all your
- 34:56Speaker 4: boyfriends weren't out there?
- 35:00Speaker 3: Hilarious? But no, I don't know it.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Even personally, I do follow the main guy on Instagram
- 35:06Speaker 4: and Twitter.
- 35:08Speaker 3: I absolutely love what they have started.
- 35:11Speaker 4: I think if I can't even imagine going to the
- 35:14Speaker 4: games right now and they like they are the only
- 35:19Speaker 4: people cheering, it would be it would feel really eerie, honestly,
- 35:25Speaker 4: like they do a good energy. Yeah, Like I think
- 35:32Speaker 4: that for the first time in a long time, Angel
- 35:35Speaker 4: fansy like they have a little bit of oomph to it,
- 35:41Speaker 4: you know, because you always hear like, oh, you know,
- 35:43Speaker 4: we show up our favorite away stadium to go play
- 35:47Speaker 4: in as Angel Stadium because it's all of our fans.
- 35:49Speaker 3: You know, you hear that from me, And it's true.
- 35:52Speaker 3: It is.
- 35:54Speaker 4: In town next week or two weeks from now, whenever
- 35:57Speaker 4: it is. You know, like the whole stadium is going
- 35:59Speaker 4: to be Yankee States Yankee fans. So the fact that
- 36:02Speaker 4: we have some of our fans showing up and actually cheering.
- 36:06Speaker 4: I'm all here for it, so I hope they continue,
- 36:10Speaker 4: and I hope that it makes already feel a little uncomfortable.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I think that is their point.
- 36:18Speaker 4: I personally haven't seen him at a game since it started, so.
- 36:22Speaker 3: I think that's a good thing.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Hey, that's gonna do it for us today. On our
