- 0:00They're going to have a ton of money to spend.
- 0:01Why not put it in one of the top three offensive players in the
- 0:13league? We're going to be looking at
- 0:14Aaron judging and saying that he can't win the big game, Michael
- 0:17Jordan said. I played 82 games.
- 0:20You don't see LeBron doing that a game.
- 0:22Where you got to go? Before I told you, Giant fans

- 2:18It has been a crazy, crazy week and it's been on and off.
- 2:22We had a little bit of rain. We're supposed to get a lot of
- 2:25snow this weekend on Sunday and Monday into Monday we could be
- 2:29hit with five to seven inches of snow.
- 2:33I've been hearing how how is it over there in the one and only
- 2:37Nebraska We're we're. Actually we're, it was like 50°,
- 2:41but we're going to get like, I think the high that we're going
- 2:44to have on the weekend, I think is 16 on Saturday and like 22 on
- 2:52Sunday. But we we have no snow, which
- 2:55I'm I'm I will take and I don't like, I don't mind the snow.
- 3:01It's the ice that gets me. Like when we get that like black
- 3:04ice and stuff like that, Gosh that, I mean it just, it stinks.
- 3:08And especially like, so we're in like a new development like in
- 3:11in our neighborhood and they're the last like we're the last
- 3:15ones to like get anything. So it's like all the
- 3:19construction, like everybody's like coming to work and doing
- 3:22all their stuff, right. So they just like basically
- 3:24matted down. And then when the actual like
- 3:27people come through with the plows and everything, basically
- 3:30they're just pushing it down and it just it, it's, it's bad.
- 3:35It's rough. Like it's literally an ice
- 3:36skating rink. I was, I met, I was going to
- 3:39check the mail and I don't know how y'all do it in Long Island,
- 3:43but like we have to walk to the mailbox.
- 3:45They don't have them just out front and I saw my FedEx guy and
- 3:51he literally slid half a block and stopped like right in front
- 3:56of my driveway and he goes watch this.
- 3:58He put it in gear and just slid to the next house.
- 4:01So, so you guys have mailboxes at like really deep at the end
- 4:06of your driveway, is that where it is?
- 4:07Or like in, in no in like the in the development like there's the
- 4:13big box. See, we don't have long
- 4:17driveways because land is so expensive here in Long Island.
- 4:20It depends on the area. It could be a cul-de-sac.
- 4:23I actually live on a cul-de-sac. So everybody, yeah, very rich.
- 4:28So they're the houses are ridiculous over here where I'm
- 4:33from. And it's weird because you do
- 4:36have to go to the end of your driveway, but it.
- 4:40Sucks. And then two, it's like
- 4:42sometimes 2 and like you're walking to it.
- 4:44It's like you got to like do this to make sure you don't bust
- 4:48your ass. Get the middle.
- 4:50It does get bad and we haven't had snow.
- 4:54I think we've had one snowstorm every year and it, it doesn't
- 4:58really get that bad. I think last year we had a 10
- 5:00inch storm and it pretty much got washed away the next day.
- 5:03So we've haven't, we haven't had back-to-back storms in a while.
- 5:07And this might be the coldest fall we've ever had.
- 5:11I don't remember a fall that we hit in the teens over the last
- 5:15three or four years. It's, it's crazy.
- 5:17It last year at this time it was at some point it was 6570° and
- 5:23now it's like. But that's the that's the same
- 5:25thing here. Like we're so bipolar too, where
- 5:28it's like it's going to be 16 and 22° and then it's going to
- 5:32be 55 on Monday and Tuesday. That's crazy.
- 5:36I don't think we, I, we've been really, I think the hottest,
- 5:42the, the hottest it's ever been was about 4548.
- 5:46I it's to me and and I don't think that's cold at all,
- 5:49actually. No, I love them.
- 5:51I mean, Carter, catch you outside.
- 5:52I don't know if you guys saw it on this foot or whatever, but
- 5:54Carter and I, we went outside when it was, it was literally
- 5:57like 40°. Yeah, I like that weather.
- 5:59I it's cool. You could take once you sweat,
- 6:01you take off your shirt, you're not going to catch a pneumonia
- 6:04or a cold. But once it gets into the the
- 6:07the low 30s into the 20s, if you're wearing, if you're not
- 6:11wearing a. Sweatshirt or something it's
- 6:12different like, but even even even cartoons like so cart comes
- 6:17in and he had he had worked out in the morning and then came
- 6:21home and we played catch did all of our other stuff and then all
- 6:24of a sudden he comes in and he like comes upstairs out of his
- 6:27room and he's like dad, I lost an earring and.
- 6:30I'm like like. Did you check your room?
- 6:35Did you check anything? And probably went down the
- 6:39drain. So then of course, what does Dad
- 6:41do? Dad goes to the store and gets
- 6:43him freaking new pair of earrings and I'm like, I'm not
- 6:47getting you nice ones. Yeah, because this is exactly
- 6:50what happens. I you're gonna, you're gonna
- 6:53lose them or like something's gonna fall out.
- 6:55And I'm like, no, I'm not doing that.
- 6:57A lot of baseball today because the New York Mets look like a
- 7:01bunch of fools. The winter meetings that ended
- 7:05Wednesday could not have gone worse for the New York Mets
- 7:09before the conference in Orlando was done.
- 7:12They lost both star closer Edwin Diaz and All Star Silver Slugger
- 7:17first baseman Pete Alonso. ESP NS Jeff Passan reports that
- 7:22the Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Edwin Diaz to a
- 7:25three-year, $69 million deal. The deal is the largest ever
- 7:29foreclosure and was almost 5 million more per year than his
- 7:35previous deal with the New York Mets.
- 7:38Pasan added that the Mets never told Diaz that they were signing
- 7:43Devin Williams last week, and that frustrated him.
- 7:47Diaz had a 1.63 ERAA, 0.87 WHIP, 98 strikeouts and 28 saves last
- 7:56season. Pasano also reports that the
- 7:59Baltimore Orioles have signed Pete Alonso to A5 year and
- 8:03$155,000,000 deal. The deal is worth 31,000,000 per
- 8:08year, the largest average annual value in Orioles history.
- 8:13ESPN reports that the Mets never even gave Pete Alonzo an offer
- 8:18this offseason, simply allowing the polar bear to leave Queens
- 8:23for nothing. Alonzo had a 272 batting
- 8:27average, 38 home runs and 126 RB is last season for the New York
- 8:34Mets. You know, Mets fans are very
- 8:37upset. And who are they pointing
- 8:40fingers at? Are they pointing fingers at
- 8:43David Stearns? Are they pointing fingers at
- 8:47Uncle Stevie? Uncle Stevie, he's has a
- 8:50boatload of money. He's the richest owner in
- 8:52professional sports. The guys got money growing out
- 8:55of his ass and I believe that I and I honestly believe that
- 8:59because last year I think he made a billion dollars in his
- 9:02hedge fund. So we all know Uncle Stevie is
- 9:05not going to be shy when it comes to flashing his money and
- 9:09spending his money because he just gave Juan Soto last year
- 9:1368,000,000 a year. But the fact here is Peter
- 9:17Lonzo, the polar bear has been the face of the New York Mets.
- 9:21And ever since Jacob degrom decided to part ways and go to
- 9:24Texas, the Mets haven't had a home grown player of this
- 9:28magnitude, a guy that really stood for something, a guy that
- 9:32took away his social medias. He didn't want to be a part of
- 9:36the social media market because he wanted to show the Mets that
- 9:39he really, really cared. And he didn't want to get
- 9:41involved in the conversations that were going behind the
- 9:44scenes when it was when the Mets were being a laughing stock of
- 9:48the league. But when you think about it and
- 9:52you understand where the Mets are as an organization, they
- 9:55were promised, the fans were promised five years ago when
- 9:59Uncle Stevie took over for the Wilpons that they're going to be
- 10:02champions, that he will do anything to make this team a
- 10:06champion. And last year, really putting
- 10:09all his money, all his, what do they call it, his shekels into
- 10:14that basket. You would think that this
- 10:18wasn't, this wasn't Hanukkah, this wasn't Christmas, this was
- 10:22all out New York Mets wanting to win a championship.
- 10:27And going into this offseason, everybody said, where do they
- 10:30go? Do they sign Edwin Diaz and do
- 10:32they sign Pete Alonso and add a school bowl or a somebody of
- 10:37that magnitude to make this team better or maybe even bring in
- 10:40another player like Cody Bellinger to really make this
- 10:43team have the line up with the depth that they expect to win a
- 10:47championship? They traded Brandon, IMO.
- 10:50A lot of people like that move. And then when you thought about
- 10:53Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso, it was almost a shoe in after the
- 10:56after they traded Brandon, IMO. But it wasn't.
- 10:59It wasn't so. And Edwin Diaz, a lot of stories
- 11:02were coming out with the Dodgers that he wanted to play with his
- 11:05brother Alexis. And Alexis obviously came from
- 11:08the Cincinnati organization. He's now, I think he would, if
- 11:12I'm not mistaken, he signed or he was traded with the Dodgers
- 11:14last year. He played for the Dodgers last
- 11:16year. He's there again.
- 11:17And there were conversations that Edwin wanted to go and play
- 11:20with his brother. So a lot of people believe that
- 11:24was one of the things that persuaded him to go play for the
- 11:28Dodgers. But then you hear their story
- 11:29about Devin Williams, that the Mets did not go to Edwin Diaz
- 11:33and tell him that they're going to sign Devin Williams.
- 11:36That could have pissed him off. I don't know what is true and
- 11:39what is not. What I do know right now is the
- 11:42Mets and the organization looks really, really bad because the
- 11:46team as a whole and the Mets fans who think that they were
- 11:50all in on this season, that being that there's this is a
- 11:53strike year after this year there there could be a strike
- 11:57for baseball. You would think that the Mets
- 11:59are going to go all in to win a championship because we don't
- 12:02know what's going to happen with baseball the year after.
- 12:05But guess what? The Mets lose their star player,
- 12:07beat Alonso, they lose their star closer.
- 12:10They go to two different organizations, the Orioles who
- 12:13never spend money at all. As you see, this is the highest
- 12:16contract when it comes to deals per year that the Orioles have
- 12:21ever given a player. Think about the Orioles have
- 12:23been around forever. Pete Alonso is the biggest
- 12:27contract they've ever given to a player.
- 12:30And that to me tells me that the Mets do not know what they're
- 12:33doing. Because I was talking to a bunch
- 12:35of Mets fans and they were saying, what is it going to get?
- 12:38What's going to get done to get Pete Alonso to sign back with
- 12:40the Mets? And I said $200 million.
- 12:42That's where I see Pete Alonso. Because we all know Scott Boris
- 12:45is his own, is his agent. And we all know that the Mets
- 12:49are going to do what Pete Alonso and Scott Boris are going to do,
- 12:53whatever it takes to get as much money as they possibly can.
- 12:56But when you hear this contract, five years, 155,000,000, he only
- 13:00made $1,000,000 more than Kyle Schwarber, who took a little bit
- 13:04less after having a season that he had an MVP season last year.
- 13:08You would have thought that the Mets were all in on a contract
- 13:10like this. This is a slam dunk for the New
- 13:13York Mets, and the Mets just completely wash their hands with
- 13:18Pete Alonso that quick. The polar bear is gone.
- 13:20Sayonara, Rub his belly. Wash them out.
- 13:24Dry them out. I don't know what the hell the
- 13:25Mets are doing right now. The organization looks
- 13:28completely bad. And now what are the Mets going
- 13:30to do? Are they going to go all in on
- 13:32Cody Bellinger? Is he that much better than Pete
- 13:34Alonso, A homegrown player? Are you going to go all out on
- 13:38Kyle Tucker? Are you going to bet that Kyle
- 13:40Tucker is going to choose the Mets out of all the teams that
- 13:43including the Dodgers that are interested in bringing them in,
- 13:46or the Yankees? Why would he go to the Nets and
- 13:49then the the Tarek Scubal Scubal thing?
- 13:52Or are the Mets willing to give up all their prospects because
- 13:56you know Detroit is going to do whatever it takes to grab
- 13:59whatever they can from the New York Mets to get this deal done?
- 14:02And are they going to overpay to get Tarek?
- 14:06It doesn't make it as the Mets are in a bad spot right now.
- 14:09And the Yankees, with how Steinberger coming out like he
- 14:12did a couple of weeks ago and saying and pointing his finger
- 14:14at the Dodgers in the league and money this and money that, I
- 14:18think Uncle Stevie looks bad. You know why?
- 14:20Because Uncle Stevie's all about bringing in a casino.
- 14:23He's getting it approved. And is it?
- 14:26Is this the reason why he wanted to buy the Mets?
- 14:29Was this the reason why he wanted the Mets really strictly
- 14:33to get a casino into Queens and him to get even richer?
- 14:37Because to me, as much as he's invested billions and billions
- 14:41of dollars into this organization, it looks really,
- 14:43really bad when your face, your player, your homegrown player
- 14:48goes to another team. What I would say about 100 miles
- 14:52away from you, a team that doesn't like to spend, a team
- 14:56that is not expected to win next year because they don't have the
- 14:59pitching on their roster. He go.
- 15:02He decides to go there instead of staying with the Mets where
- 15:05he has a chance to win a World Series.
- 15:07It makes no sense. The Mets look really, really
- 15:10bad. And any Mets fan sitting here
- 15:12today that is going to make excuses for the Mets on this
- 15:15deal. David Stearns should be fired
- 15:18after this year if this doesn't work and he goes all in on Kyle
- 15:22Tucker or even bring in Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker and
- 15:26get Tarik Skubal. If if this goes to to crap, it
- 15:30goes that wherever it's going to go.
- 15:33I, I David Stearns should be absolutely fine.
- 15:35I don't care how close he is with the fact that he's Uncle
- 15:39Stevie's best friend. I don't care.
- 15:41This looks really, really bad because this guy grew up a Met
- 15:44fan and I'm talking about David Stearns.
- 15:46He wanted this job and now you're hearing that the
- 15:49Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Brewers, a lot of the players
- 15:52didn't like David Stearns. That David Stearns was really
- 15:55weighed out his welcome over there and he goes to the Mets
- 15:58and Mets fans were so excited. Oh, we got the best GM did it
- 16:02and the best GM just gave away. Gave away the best closer in
- 16:07baseball and arguably one of the best power hitters in baseball.
- 16:11Makes no sense. Yeah, David Stern was brought in
- 16:13to get the process kind of middled between what the Mets
- 16:17did previously with Billy and Eppler, as we, as we call them,
- 16:21get overpaying Max shares or overpaying Marte and Verlander
- 16:25and all those other guys that did not work out over here.
- 16:27And David Sterns is coming in with the process of we're going
- 16:30to develop like the Brewers. They need the middle ground to
- 16:33work and that's why they brought him in.
- 16:34But if this middle is knit, Picking over 3,000,000 for Edwin
- 16:38Diaz. But speedy, too speedy.
- 16:40When you say that, too, think about like, I retired with the
- 16:45Brewers, Yep. And got a little bit of
- 16:48experience. Like, do you think he tried to
- 16:51take that mentality from the Brewers to the Mets?
- 16:54When you have an owner that's going to spend like you, you
- 16:57can't take that mentality, can you?
- 16:59Well, that's what I'm saying. I think the middle ground of
- 17:01what that mentality was supposed to be with the Brewers, I don't
- 17:04really think has been adapted to from the pitching standpoint
- 17:06especially. And when you look at Edwin Diaz,
- 17:09yeah, David Stearns made a similar move with Josh Hader,
- 17:12traded Josh Hader to the Padres in 2022, and then obviously he
- 17:15signed a big contract with the Astros since then.
- 17:17Trust in the Brewers bullpen process to make that kind of
- 17:20thing work. The difference is the Brewers
- 17:22bullpen process even before Stearns got there was always
- 17:25good. They trade, they traded Josh
- 17:27Hader, Josh Hader, Corey Knable was the closer when Josh Hader
- 17:30came up and they had other good relievers in the past.
- 17:32Before that they brought in K Rod when they had John Axford
- 17:35there and it was a still a good system.
- 17:37The Mets have never had a good system of relief pitchers.
- 17:39The Mets on their World Series team finally got some good guys
- 17:42with Addison Reed, they traded for Tyler Clipper.
- 17:44They made that kind of thing work.
- 17:45Ever since then they have still been a mess in terms of getting
- 17:47relievers. Even with Diaz there.
- 17:49We always questioned, oh do the Mets have enough bullpen depth?
- 17:52They tried it the last year and look, look at the disaster
- 17:54turned into so that element. I cannot trust the process of
- 17:58and again, nitpicking over 5 million for Pete Alonso.
- 18:01Pete Alonso would have gotten five years, 150 in the market
- 18:03value from what was that was the rumor.
- 18:05And not even giving him an offer is just a sign of disrespect
- 18:08too, which is not something that you want to present yourself as
- 18:11an organization. And I'm not saying the Mets
- 18:13should adapt back to the Billy Eppler ways because those were
- 18:15terrible too. But if the Mets want to be
- 18:18respected as a good baseball culture, despite all the money
- 18:20that they have, they can't be treating their players like
- 18:22this. And that's where I think maybe
- 18:24the stingy of Sterns Brewers ways got to him a little bit.
- 18:27They just need to find a middle ground.
- 18:29And the other process I don't like that they haven't done yet.
- 18:31They haven't traded for a pitcher or signed a pitcher in
- 18:33their prime yet, which is really against their values.
- 18:36And they just tried to do what they did in two years ago and
- 18:38try to these dark throws of one year contracts and just not
- 18:40working. So do you think it's kind of
- 18:44both too and if you look at it too in the New York market per
- 18:48SE, right. Is it, do you think it's kind of
- 18:51in the same way of what like when George is doing it like,
- 18:54you know, making the Kevin Brown trade and like in signing those
- 18:58guys like trying to get that like the one year like see what
- 19:02they can do and if we can win? That's what they try to do with
- 19:05like Cantana and then they try to with Montana.
- 19:07George Stockbury would never have done this.
- 19:10No way in hell he would have lost Pete Alonzo.
- 19:13But no, no, not at that point, not at that point, but like, but
- 19:17he did do it. And exactly kind of what
- 19:19Speedy's saying is to like when they made those deals and like
- 19:24that's what George did too with like, you know, the Kevin Browns
- 19:27and the Randy Johnsons of of bringing them over and the Carl
- 19:30Vavanos and giving him his deal. Like of like when they were hot,
- 19:34like let's we're going to win now.
- 19:36But are are you really trying to win now or like what are you?
- 19:39What are you doing? Well, they're trying to win now
- 19:41because but I think what you're saying is.
- 19:43Valid to wait a second, you're saying that the Mets are trying
- 19:46to win now? And how are they trying to win
- 19:49now? They're bringing in Devin
- 19:50Williams, who had a bad season last year with the Yankees.
- 19:53And by the way, now, now on top of it, there is more weight now
- 19:59on Devin Williams now because he doesn't have Edwin Diaz.
- 20:02So now it's going to be and, and people have talked about it and
- 20:07his weight now has become tenfold.
- 20:09Yeah, he got his money, right? He got his back.
- 20:12But at the same time, it's like you've seen what he went through
- 20:15with the Yankees. Now you're the you're the end
- 20:18all that meets all for the back end of that bullpen, speedy like
- 20:20you're saying. And they haven't had that
- 20:22process of like having depth in the bullpen.
- 20:25What are you going to do if he shits the bed again?
- 20:28Yeah, and that's the process that they've been missing.
- 20:30Like, if you look at the rest of their bullpen too, Brooks Raley
- 20:33is literally the only other one I could trust in that bullpen
- 20:35right now. You had Reed Garrett, who had a
- 20:37good beginning of the year but fell off in the second-half.
- 20:39Obviously all the other relievers they didn't bring back
- 20:41yet because they were just a dead disaster in the
- 20:43second-half. And then same kind of thing with
- 20:45the starters too. Like I get the idea of not
- 20:47wanting to do what Eppler did, but at least go after somebody
- 20:50of quality, not freaking Frankie.
- 20:51Montes and one of our fans, Sam Kim, says that he doesn't
- 20:55believe and I'm reading what he said.
- 20:56He says it's not about the three million with the Mets, it was
- 21:00about giving him more than three years.
- 21:03And, and, and maybe that's true. Maybe Sam is right.
- 21:05Maybe the Mets didn't want to give him the five years or maybe
- 21:08not giving him the four years. Here's the problem.
- 21:10When you have a player of this magnitude, these guys don't grow
- 21:13on trees. You don't you don't find guys
- 21:16that are going to hit between 35 and 40 home runs and give you
- 21:19100 RBI's almost every single season.
- 21:21Who buys by the way, plays injured.
- 21:24If you look at Pete Alonzo's career, he plays the majority of
- 21:28the game. He was really only hurt two
- 21:29years ago. He's actually healthy.
- 21:32Every single year. So the Mets had a quality hitter
- 21:35in their lineup every single year and you're sitting back
- 21:39here and you're going to bet, hey, Cody Bellinger, Cody
- 21:41Bellinger can't stay healthy as back problems.
- 21:43So you're going to bet on Cody Bellinger or Kyle Tucker.
- 21:47Kyle Tucker has never played on an on a big stage like New York.
- 21:51I know Chicago and the Cubs, that's a big stage.
- 21:54But here in New York, it's a completely different ball game.
- 21:57There's too much pressure here. We've heard it and now you have
- 22:00guys like, you know, somebody who went to Boston who likes to
- 22:04take shots at the Yankees pitchers and, and we've seen
- 22:07hitters and, and all these other guys that have come to New York
- 22:10that haven't succeeded. And then you have guys like
- 22:12Jabba Chamberlain, who was brought up in the Yankees
- 22:14organization that succeeded here and when he went to different
- 22:18places, succeeded and won multiple World Series.
- 22:21I, I sit here today and I'm going to tell you this.
- 22:23I'm not a Mets fan, but I feel bad for the Mets fan because you
- 22:26sit here today and you're, you're trying to figure out what
- 22:29did the Mets do here? Did they make sense on not
- 22:33offering anything to beat Alonzo?
- 22:35They didn't offer him nothing. And Edwin Diaz sitting back and
- 22:39this is your best closure. This is your best relief picture
- 22:42you've ever had. If you really look back at all
- 22:44the times and all the relief pictures you had and you didn't
- 22:47go to him and tell him, hey, listen, Edwin, I just want to
- 22:50let you know we're. Going to bring he was probably
- 22:52the best one since Franco right? Speedy in my.
- 22:54Room better. He's better, way better.
- 22:56When you look at the analytics I've looked at I, I knew you
- 22:59were going to say John Franco because John Franco is very well
- 23:02known in the Yankees. The Yankees over the years have
- 23:05always taken shots at John Franco because he loves taking
- 23:08shots at the Yankee fans. I like John Franco, I like his
- 23:11personality. I met him a couple of times.
- 23:13He's he's as a long lasting Met and Saint Louis Cardinal.
- 23:17So anybody that knows John Franco, you know the type of
- 23:20personality he is, but John Franco never did the things that
- 23:24Edwin Diaz did and Edwin Diaz stood for something else for the
- 23:28New York met fans. One one thing is you're in
- 23:30Queens and that's A to me, when you when you look at Queens,
- 23:34it's very Dominican and Puerto Rican.
- 23:37It was everything over there. They built their team, They
- 23:39brought in Lindor, they brought in Soto.
- 23:41They're building their roster. They have a if I'm not mistaking
- 23:45their their their coach, their manager is Puerto Rican, right?
- 23:49So they built it that way. And you have the best closing
- 23:54relief pitcher in baseball, a Spanish Puerto Rican.
- 23:58I think he's Puerto Rican, right?
- 23:59Yeah, that that was where he got hurt, unfortunately.
- 24:01What I'm saying you, you had the best Spanish relief pitcher in
- 24:05all the baseball and you just said, you know what?
- 24:08We're we're just. Going to It's funny you bring
- 24:10that up too, because they've even said too when when he was
- 24:14in WBC and he blew out, they were like, our season was over.
- 24:19Yeah, like our season was over when we knew, like, obviously we
- 24:22weren't going to have. That literally a week after he
- 24:24signed his contract. Yeah, I got something that I
- 24:28don't think yet we've brought up yet.
- 24:30This feels like almost like a Michael Corleone, like hit job
- 24:34by Stearns here. Think about this for a second.
- 24:37Who were the clubhouse leaders on the Mets for the last couple
- 24:40of years? Brandon Nimmo Diaz, Pete Alonzo,
- 24:46Jacob degrom, Frankie Litt. Well, he's gone.
- 24:48Yeah. I'm saying Jacob, the ground.
- 24:50Yeah. Lindor is the only one left
- 24:52standing. And you know, it's very curious
- 24:54to me that these guys want to leave when we know that Steve
- 24:59Cohen makes families like Juan Soto's family feel really
- 25:02comfortable and safe at Citi Field.
- 25:05It's such a wonderful experience that they couldn't get a Yankee
- 25:08Stadium. I don't understand why anyone
- 25:09would want to leave after the top notch service that's being
- 25:12done for the families. I think it's so good that Juan
- 25:14Soto wouldn't want to play for the Yankees.
- 25:16He'd want to play for the Mets when guys like Diaz don't want
- 25:19to play for the Mets. Alonso if even if he did want to
- 25:22play for the Mets, for some reason Stearns is being cheap
- 25:25about it. And I listen, I used to play a
- 25:27lot of poker in college. If you have the chip stack in a
- 25:31tournament, you use it like that's the whole point.
- 25:34You bully people around when you have more chips and you get them
- 25:37out of hands and you end up taking down more hands and you
- 25:40win. But to your point, Fish, you're
- 25:42100% right. Exactly.
- 25:44It's chips in the chair, right? What did the Dodgers just do?
- 25:47Exactly. The Dodgers just won
- 25:50back-to-back and what did they do?
- 25:52Let's add on better. We're better now because that
- 25:55was our weakness. The Dodgers weren't playing
- 25:57poker. They were playing craps.
- 25:59The Dodgers are playing poker, but they rigged the deck.
- 26:01That's the problem. That's what's going on right now
- 26:04in baseball. Fish, do you play?
- 26:05Poker with deferred chips. Well, they just have more chips
- 26:09than everybody, right? Because nobody else is willing
- 26:11to pony up the future like that. Though.
- 26:13At the same time, like as as a player or like in in any
- 26:17position, if you know that that's what they're doing.
- 26:20And I know Air will go back this and call them the deferred
- 26:23dodgers. But at the same time, like,
- 26:28wouldn't you as a player if if you're going to be able to like
- 26:31know you're going to have a chance to win, like why wouldn't
- 26:35you go? And no, like, OK, yeah, my owner
- 26:39will spend a lot of money, but he didn't do anything.
- 26:42So why wouldn't I go over here? It's exactly what Glass now said
- 26:45when he was with the Rays and did whatever.
- 26:48Then he goes, he's like, you can't beat him, join him, right?
- 26:52And if you're going to do that, why would you not want to play?
- 26:54Like, why would you not want to play for a team that's going to
- 26:57like put you in the best position that you can?
- 27:01You know. To be able to win.
- 27:02You know who the Dodgers remind me of?
- 27:04The New England Patriots, those championship Patriots teams.
- 27:07Now, they didn't use deferred money, but what Bill Belichick
- 27:10and Tom Brady did and Robert Kraft did was they went to Tom
- 27:13Brady. He was the leader and he knew he
- 27:15was going to make money and endorsements and everything he
- 27:17would take. A But also, but also Errol, let
- 27:19me cut you off for a second, but he didn't use deferred money.
- 27:23But what did Tom Brady do? He didn't take as much money
- 27:26because he the dudes in front of him covered his butt to make
- 27:31sure that he didn't get hit so they could win.
- 27:33So he paid Carl Nix. He paid all those guys to cover
- 27:37his butt to make sure he didn't get hit.
- 27:40I I that was my. Deferred money, but not really.
- 27:45But that that's my take. The fact here is, is the
- 27:48Patriots did this. They they had ways of winning
- 27:52championships and their way was is they had a superstar
- 27:55quarterback that didn't care about the money.
- 27:57He cared about winning and, and The thing is, is it wasn't
- 28:01deferred money, but he took instead of taking 3540 million a
- 28:05year at the time and being the highest paid quarterback in all
- 28:08of the NFL, he took 18,000,017 million.
- 28:12Cut it down because hey, I'm going to get Gronk back or I'm
- 28:15going to do this back and I'm going to pay.
- 28:18You pay Edelman, you pay what bring in another tackle that's
- 28:21going to be able to protect me so I can win another 2 Super
- 28:24Bowls. And that's what they did.
- 28:25And that's, that was the the whole, to me, the, the whole
- 28:29grind of the New England Patriots of those times and that
- 28:32dominant period of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
- 28:34Now going back to this story and the New York Mets, I don't know
- 28:39what we can call the New York Mets right now.
- 28:41Do we? Do we call this we call the
- 28:43Wilpons, the coupons. Now, I'm not saying that Uncle
- 28:47Stevie hasn't spent a lot of money.
- 28:48If you look at Uncle Stevie and what he spent in the last five
- 28:51years, he spent a lot of money, but he put a billions and
- 28:53billions of dollars into the wrong players.
- 28:55You're bringing Marte. What has Marte done for him?
- 28:58I mean, you've done everything and anything to make the fans
- 29:02happy on investing into players that were not Mets.
- 29:06And then finally you have long lasting that's like Pete Alonso.
- 29:10And you know what, David Stearns didn't like him or they didn't
- 29:13like the analytics or they didn't put the analytics
- 29:16together in a way where they thought that a guy like Pete
- 29:19Alonso is important to the roster.
- 29:22So they say, you know what? We don't need Pete.
- 29:24We're not offering him anything. We're letting.
- 29:26Him go and that's something we talk about on the show a lot
- 29:29too. And you can talk about this two
- 29:32fishes as a coach, like what is that?
- 29:35What does that do for the culture of the team?
- 29:37If like if, if you're in a locker room, a clubhouse,
- 29:40whatever, Like when they're either not like giving these
- 29:45guys offers or not doing anything.
- 29:46Like what is it like as a coach? Like how does, how does that
- 29:50change like your perception or like how like, how do I get them
- 29:55on board to like, you know, want to win and like you don't want
- 29:59to compete for each other and everything when it's like these
- 30:03guys and, and Brandon and he's obviously made his money, but
- 30:07does that change the culture of like kind of what you'd want to
- 30:11do to win? I mean, I've been in as a
- 30:14teacher, not really as a coach, but as a teacher in some really
- 30:17toxic places where you literally have people that are trying to
- 30:24lead by example and they're being put out in front meeting
- 30:28do to do all the work in front of everybody.
- 30:30And then there's your do a bonus before Christmas.
- 30:34And I worked at this place only a few months and they let her go
- 30:36before she was supposed to get a 5 figure bonus and she was doing
- 30:41everything there. And if you don't think that's
- 30:43going to kill the culture of a place, then you don't know
- 30:46anything about it. You know, as it's, it doesn't
- 30:49matter what profession, if you're not going to respect the
- 30:51people that have put the work in at the place ahead of you, then
- 30:55people aren't going to like working there.
- 30:57There's no reason to like working there.
- 30:59And I think that's really the long story, you know, short of
- 31:01all of it, you know, it's just kind of a bummer for the Mets
- 31:05and your fans. I I feel bad for the met fans.
- 31:08I don't think it's a bummer for the the the organization.
- 31:11The organization stupid. They gave the reins to David
- 31:13Stearns and David Stearns is right now.
- 31:16Hey, you know what? We got Stone, we got soda, we
- 31:19got Lindor, we got all this other stuff.
- 31:22We're we're going into Christmas and we're, we're happy what we
- 31:24have. Can I ask you a question though,
- 31:26Errol? If you were, you were put in a
- 31:28vacuum at the start of this offseason where you're like, we
- 31:30got two guys we could choose to pay Devin Williams or Edwin
- 31:33Diaz. Edwin Diaz, how are you throwing
- 31:35that money at Devin Williams after last season?
- 31:37Devin Williams came to New York with the Yankees.
- 31:40He came to the American League East.
- 31:42It didn't work out. It was a lot of pressure on him.
- 31:44It was a different to me. It was in he was in a different
- 31:46position. He has been successful in the
- 31:48National League. He's been one of the best relief
- 31:50pitchers in baseball for like 5 years.
- 31:53He's been as dominant as any pitcher in the National and
- 31:56consistent. And then he goes to the Yankees
- 31:59and he wasn't. Now the Mets are thinking, hey,
- 32:01you know what, we bring in Devin Williams, we're not paying him
- 32:04as much as we're going to pay in Edwin Diaz.
- 32:07And they thought, I really thought that the Mets thought
- 32:10they were still going to get Edwin Diaz and they were going
- 32:13to get him and he they were still going to pay him what the
- 32:16the Dodgers were going to give him.
- 32:17And they were never bringing Pete Alonzo.
- 32:18I don't really believe the Mets were ever thinking about
- 32:22bringing Pete Alonzo back. It was Edwin Diaz and then Devin
- 32:25Williams and then they were going to go after a Cody
- 32:27Bellinger or Kyle Tucker or make a trade and add a big, you know,
- 32:30a big bat in the in the line do. You think they're going to make
- 32:33a huge swing right now, though? Yeah, because 100%, you know, I
- 32:36don't know if Uncle Stevie's going to be happy with it.
- 32:38I know George wouldn't have stood for it as the Yankees.
- 32:40Like he the first reaction Steinbrenner would have done to
- 32:43something like this would have been to trade for freaking Mike
- 32:45Trout or something like that. And then get and then get like,
- 32:49you know, oh, well, he's great, but we got him for nothing.
- 32:52You know, we're and then we're going to get three more guys
- 32:54that used to be MVP. Maybe we can get something out
- 32:57of them, but we're going to we're going to fire back.
- 32:59I wonder what's going to happen if I'm a Mets fan, I think I
- 33:02want to see some other tow job. You know, maybe it's you're
- 33:06getting that Tarek Scubal. Maybe that's the move.
- 33:09You give up the farm, you get Scubal, you pay Scubal, now you
- 33:13have the ace for the rest of the way.
- 33:15All. Right.
- 33:15All right. So you're saying the Mets will
- 33:17go after Tarek Scubal? That's fine.
- 33:18Hold on. But.
- 33:19But we're talking speedy. Tell us like from because you're
- 33:22a Mets guy. We're we're not Mets guys like
- 33:25speedy like is is what fish saying is, is that something
- 33:30that you would like a serial killing or would they do it?
- 33:34They they should be. I've always bashed the Mets
- 33:37front office before even Stearns got there for not either trading
- 33:40for or signing like a younger, either a younger pitcher or a
- 33:43pitcher in their prime type thing.
- 33:45And obviously school is probably the most extreme example of
- 33:47that. But that process has been really
- 33:49flawed for just the way the Mets have operated for not being able
- 33:53to grow their pitching. Now obviously they try to grow
- 33:54their homegrown pitching outside of the ground.
- 33:56None of them developed well. So maybe they got they got
- 33:59afraid and went to the other approach and then they went away
- 34:01from the not not Scherzer and Justin Verlander 40 year old men
- 34:05approach. And I just think they just don't
- 34:08really have a good system in place to do it.
- 34:09And I want to bring up that you brought up two job before that
- 34:12in addition to the Devin Williams being thrown into the
- 34:15fire, those young players, whoever's not traded, whoever
- 34:18Vientos will start at first, you know, possibly Carson Benz to
- 34:21come out and start in the outfield or you maybe Mauricio
- 34:23if he's not ready or something like that.
- 34:24You're throwing them into the fire for a lot bigger roles
- 34:26right away than they would have imagined.
- 34:27Sam Kim is saying that they're going to give him, they're going
- 34:31to give Stearns at least two more years and because he wants
- 34:34to mold and they believe he's going to mold the team the way
- 34:36he wants to mold it. And maybe he's right.
- 34:38Sam, you might be right. You very much might be right
- 34:42that the Mets say that the Organs organization might say we
- 34:45got to give Stearns a little bit more time to figure out how he
- 34:48sees this team and where he sees this team in the future.
- 34:51But you got all these young pitchers have McClain Tong and
- 34:53all these other guys. Now you're talking about Tarek
- 34:55Schuble. Now, if Tarek Schuble is the
- 34:57guy, you're going to have to give up a significant portion of
- 35:01your prospects to land a Tarek Schuble because there's no way
- 35:05in hell Detroit's going to say here, here's the best pitcher in
- 35:08baseball, the second best pitcher in baseball.
- 35:10Him and schemes you can argue are the two best.
- 35:12You're going to just hand them over over in, in the prime of
- 35:15his career, 2829 years old. There's no way in hell.
- 35:18And the Mets, after losing 2 superstar players, 2 important
- 35:22pieces to the puzzle, is that enough to get you over the hump
- 35:27to be able to compete with the Dodgers after them landing Edwin
- 35:30Diaz and they're not done. They could get Kyle Tucker.
- 35:33So I mean, as a Mets fan and I'm not, but as a Mets fan and I'm,
- 35:38I'm honest to God, but believing that the Mets fans should be
- 35:41pissed off. They shouldn't be happy about
- 35:43this. This is is not a good sign of
- 35:45where the organization is moving.
- 35:47The only thing I could say for the Mets fan is sit back and
- 35:51hope that David Stearns actually understands what he just did and
- 35:57what he just heard when it came to the fans and what the fans
- 36:01believed in a Pete Alonso whatever when Diaz was for the
- 36:04last couple of years. That's the only thing I could
- 36:06say. Anyways, that's it for a show.

- 37:51The Mountain Man the. Mountain Man didn't invite me to
- 37:54his wedding. He didn't invite me to, you
- 37:56know, be invited to that beautiful opportunity to see the
- 38:00baby for the first time. That sounds like Dodger.
- 38:03That's what it smells like anyways.
- 38:05Thank you to death. By the way, give a shout out to
- 38:07the Mountain family for another grandchild, Steve, Mr. Steve
