- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Welcome home, Hear Us Now, a podcast of the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, a space for all of us seeking what's real and sacred in a world that rushes past the soul.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: I'm Eric Engelman, a volunteer at UGMTC, and your co-host, Charles Wolford.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Well, good morning, Dr.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Charles.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Well, good morning, brother, uh, my friend and my brother Eric.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: It is so good to see you as always at the Welcome Home Podcast.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I am high in a happy, Eric, as we have some conversations today, specifically about what's going to be happening in September.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: September the twenty-third, twenty-fourth, and twenty-fifth, here at Union Gospel Mission of Terran County, we will be hosting the Raw High District Conference, and I wanted to give our listening audience an opportunity just to peek back through the curtain to see some of the amazing things that will be happening on September twenty-third, twenty-fourth, and twenty-fifth.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: But in doing that, Eric, I also want to share a little bit more about the City Gate Network and what's happening there and the amazing work that's happening across our country, but then around the world with missions.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And so that's going to be uh an opportunity just to hear and for us to dialogue about City Gate Network and uh the district conference that's going to happen.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: So let's jump in, my brother.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Let's talk a little bit about this City Gate Network and and what God is doing.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Sounds good to me.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Well, let's let's think it through this way.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: You know, what most people may not be aware of, Eric, is the City Gate Network and the makeup of almost 325 missions, we really are celebrating the 200th year anniversary of the missions movement.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: The Gospel Missions Movement started May 1826.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: It's just hard to imagine that 200 years later you have such an amazing movement.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So let me repeat that.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Started in Glasgow, Scotland, and I had the great benefit and the privilege of visiting the original mission this past May and a 200th year anniversary celebration.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: So here God has been doing something amazing over 200 years, and what's was created out of that, there are over five hundred gospel missions around the world.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: There are 325 in the United States.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: In the United States, and and now it's made up what's called the City Gate Network, and uh God is moving amazing and doing some amazing things, uniting it's a united movement of gospel-powered rescue missions, addiction recovery centers, prison outreach minors, day centers, traffic survivor programs, and God is just doing some amazing work.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And so I just want to talk a little bit about what God's doing there.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Okay, so just a quick history bug note that the 1826, that was when our country celebrated its 50th anniversary.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: And so while our country was doing that, God was doing something across the across the pond to help us meet some of the demands that we were going to face in the future.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And you know what's an interesting narrative is when you look at the gospel missions movement over 200 years ago, you also have to see the dotted line or the breadcrumbs that have been left behind because shortly after the gospel missions movement, you have the birth of what it was the Salvation Army, Charles Booth.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Same region, same area uh began, and and most people are not aware, Eric, that the Gospel Missions Movement is older than the Salvation Army, and it is older than the Goodwill.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Uh you you look at some of the genesis of the Salvation Army, it started around a discipleship and a movement with Charles Booth.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: He had a military background and took the Salvation Army on a different path, and today it's world-renowned, and it it it has some of the same genesis as the gospel missions movement.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Praise the Lord.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: That sounds like God was interested in extending the gospel to people in union gospel mission kind of need level.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: He really has.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: He really has.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Let me give you some data points.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Now, one, to our listening audience, the Citigate Network was established in 1906, but in doing so, leaders across the country started collaborating and sharing ideas, and now 325 plus missions across North America get together and we have an annual conference.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: This conference allows like-minded individuals to collaborate, to dream a little bit, and talk through what God has been up to.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: We recently, we just had the conference just recently in June in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and it was over 1,300 individuals from across uh the world who came together.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: But let me give you some context.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: With this 325 organizations, uh, we make up about eleven point eight million dollar nights of shelter, over two billion dollars in combined revenue, forty-eight point nine million dollars million meals served, about one point eight million people served, uh, and and and God is just doing some amazing work with these missions.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: But uh this is the great news of what's happening.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: There are four districts that make up the Citigate Conference and the Citigate Network.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And this September, Eric, September 23rd, 24th, and 25th, Union Gospel Mission of Tarrane County, we will be hosting what is the Rawhigh District.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: And with this Rawhide District, I just want to give our listening audience an opportunity to be a part of it, uh, to share with the Rawhide District.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: You have to be a part of this experience.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: So come and get a glimpse of what God's doing right here in our own district.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Uh the Rawhide District is made up of missions in Texas, missions in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and in Mexico.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: And man, let me tell you, this is gonna be a great time.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Uh we want to see God move at the Rawhide District.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Uh I want to just shout out some of the missions that um uh have been sharing a little bit of what they're doing.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna shout out Metro Relief, Union Gospel Mission of Dallas, Souls for Christ Ministry, Austin Street in Dallas, Highway 80 Rescue Mission in Longview, uh Beautiful Feet Ministries that's right here in Fort Worth, the Wichita Falls Faith Mission, Star of Hope, which is in Houston, our friend Doug there leads that ministry, Open Door, which is Brandon Anderson, who's the CEO there, San Antonio Rescue Mission, Faith Mission in uh Amarillo, uh, Door of Hope Mission in Odessa.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Uh we want to talk about John 316, which is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Man, there's so many missions who will come here to Fort Worth.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Glean from some great speakers, and I'll talk a little bit more about that, but just let's just just just praise God for that for how many missions.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, here it comes.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: We got we got some applause.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Three, two, one.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Thank you, God, for bringing people together in their name, in their love, in Jesus' name.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So let's talk a little bit about what's going to happen on September 23rd.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: That's that's the opening day of the Citigate Network uh or the Rawhide District Conference.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you, uh, it will be jam-packed with some activities.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: The welcome uh uh event will happen at 3 45.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: We're gonna gather at the stockyards here in Fort Worth.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: And if you've not had a chance to experience the stockyards, uh those who would come are going to be be in for a treat.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: It is infamous, uh, it has great history, uh, and so we invite everybody to come to the welcome event.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Uh every day at 4 o'clock, there's what's considered a longhorn cattle drive.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you, Eric, have you been to one of the longhorn cattle drives?
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: I have not.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I've seen longhorns, but they haven't been driven.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you something.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: If you've not seen it in person, it's something to behold these majestic animals come down the the cobbled stones of Fort Worth, and it's something to see.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: It it it it's a throwback to times of yesteryear, and you really get a chance to see uh in its full splendor these great longhorns coming down.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: It is a majestic parade of Texas Longhorns, so that starts at four o'clock, and we want everybody who can to come out to see that.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: It should be amazing.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Now, what I remember about Longhorns is that they have long horns.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, they have like uh a five foot or more span from tip to tip.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: They really do.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: And uh how they how they get along without starting a fight with each other, that's their business.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: But they're majestic, and you just are in awe of seeing these Longhorns um meander down the cobbled stones, and it's something to behold.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: So if you come at 345, we will gather in front of Tannehills, and then we'll see this amazing experience that's going to happen at four.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: At 430, there will be a reception at the Cattleman Steakhouse.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: If you've not been to the Cattleman Steakhouse, man, they have some of the best burgers, some brisket.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Uh it is absolutely a bison burger that's to Jedi for.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Oh my.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Uh I I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: It's it's an amazing experience.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: But that's where welcome reception will be.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: That's going to be hosted by RKD, uh, one of our partners, and it's just been an amazing time of gathering, fellowshipping for all who will come.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Please, uh, if you're listening to this and you're intending on coming to the Rawhigh District, the welcome event will be infamous.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: It will be epic.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: I'm inviting everyone to come to that.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Then Thursday morning we'll start off the conference day of activities where we're going to have uh Dr.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Steve Cuss, uh, who is an author and a speaker who's written books about leadership and opportunities to engage, and so we want to invite all who can to come out for that.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Uh but let me tell you, that will be an opportunity for us also to celebrate something that is amazing that happened right here at Union Gospel Mission of Terran County.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: You may be remember, you may be reminded of Ron Hall, who wrote an amazing book, the same kind of different as me.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: This is the 20th anniversary of that book.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And so Ron Hall will be our keynote speaker.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: We'll have lunch uh and and have a festive time and celebrating the 20th anniversary of the book.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: And then that afternoon, we have uh Eric Albert who will come and share with us a little bit about the uh a book, Be the Unicorn.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Steve Alvert is with an organization called Vanderblomen, and then we'll have some dialogue with some of the CEOs around the country and community to talk about what's happening in the missions movement, but about the empowerment of what God is doing there.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: And then Friday we'll have some great sessions with people like this president and CEO of Presbyterian Night Shelter, Toby Owens, is going to do some workforce stuff.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Michelle Alexander from Star of Hope will be here that Friday morning.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Uh we are looking forward to that.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And then Reverend O'Cilia Sprawl will come and share from her book, same kind of excuse me, her book, More Than Pretty.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: It's a discipleship book for women.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: They have to come and experience that.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And then uh certainly we're looking uh forward to having this session with uh Jeff Clewar, I think it's pronounced.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: I want to uh forgive me, Jeff, if I'm botching up your name, but AI for every mission, put your fundraising on autopilot.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: That will be a session that if you're a development person or if you're in fundraising, learning some of the new technology, uh I think this is going to be an amazing conference, and then we'll end our time with getting a chance just to visit and tour the campus.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: So I want to invite everybody uh who's listening to come and be a part of this conference.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: If you go to CityGateNetwork.org, you can log on and you can register.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: All of the information is on the website.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: I encourage everyone to go and be a part of that experience and just see what God's going to do the 23rd, 24th, and 25th.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Praise God.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Well, this and it's uh neat that that's in our backyard, so to speak.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: Actually, it's not in our backyard, it's in our facilities here.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's right here, and we will be hosting most of the experiences uh at the community outreach center, but there's be sessions and classes going around on our campus, and we're excited just to be able to host.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: And so again, for our Raw High district uh participants, please don't miss this opportunity to come and learn, to fellowship, uh, and meet with other partners around our district and just get connected, re-refueled.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: It will be a blessed time, and we're excited.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Let me talk about some of the experiences as well.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Uh on Thursday night, uh, if if you've not had a chance, Eric, to go to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, we have a VIP tour.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: Well, that'll we'll get an opportunity to see uh up close uh and and personal to see the amazing uh structure which is the the the stadium.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: If you've not been in it and and really walked around, we'll have a VIP tour, we'll have dinner there, it's gonna be an amazing event there as well.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: So we invite everybody to come.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: We look forward to seeing uh our friends and family members on September 23rd, 24th, and 25th for the Royal High District.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Now let's let's talk a little bit about uh Thursday when it starts.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: It looks like registration happens at 7 30 in the morning.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And there is worship and prayer uh for a half hour um starting at eight.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: And this that sounds like a good good way to start.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Man, it's you know, we're gonna praise the Lord.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Part of what we get to do at the City Gate Networks is really worship and praise the Lord.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So uh this will be no different.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: We're gonna worship and have songs of praise and and fellowship during this time.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Sounds excellent.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: One of our guests from the Citigate Network is gonna be here, and he's been on three of our episodes before.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Don Schisler himself is uh who's in charge of the Rawhide Division.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, Don is the regional coordinator of the Rawhide District, and so we're excited he will be here.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Uh for those of you who remember Don, the former CEO of Union Gospel Mission of Tan County, he's now taking on a rude new role with the Rawhide District, and the president of the Rawhide District is a gentleman by the name of Steve Whitaker.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: He's the president and CEO of the mission in Tulsa, John 316, and uh I have the benefit and the privilege of serving as the vice president of the Rawhide District.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna have some fun and district engagement.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: It this is gonna be a great time.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: I I get tickled whenever something uh goes into uh ancient history.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: And what I mean by that is that if you live in the 21st century and somebody says Vietnam War, they go, oh wow, that's old history.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: And and a lot of times they don't know what what life was like or what uh what the um the uh challenges to overcome.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: God is faithful even when we forget about how faithful he is.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: That's right, that's right.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: You know, um when you do research and study of organizations, the being able to go back to its genesis and see how things were birthed, it gives you a great appreciation for hard work that's been done way before we arrived.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: And when you get a chance to participate in these district conferences, you get a great feel of legacy and history.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: And so Rawhide District, September 23rd, 24th, and 25th.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: To our listening audience, if you've not registered, go to CityGateNetwork.org, go to the registration page, go to the Rawhide District.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: We would love to see many of our guests and neighbors coming, be a part of that.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: The fee is$125 if you're registered, so you can register right there online.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: All right, yep.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Let's pray.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Father in heaven in Jesus' name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Thank you, God, for breathing into the earth and breathing values, breathing a chance to share and grow in the different kinds of uh salvation that Jesus offers.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And some of that is one disciple talking to another and saying, you know, this worked and this didn't, and I had to go back to this scripture and and see a uh a new emphasis, and this is what the Spirit of God is t telling me.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Lord, thank you for your faithfulness over 200 years in the Union Gospel movement.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: And Lord, if you d please grant uh new eyes to see, new ears to hear, a new heart that understands.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Thank you for just the wide spectrum of uh organizations in the DFW area, let alone in Texas and and other parts of the Rawhide district.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: And Lord, your kingdom come, your will be done.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: May your love, joy, peace grow, and God thank you also for some of the guests that we're gonna have on this podcast.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: In Jesus' name.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Amen.
