- 0:04Speaker 1: A perk of a Game seven in the World Series.
- 0:08Speaker 1: There's basically no downtime Monday hits you recap it. We
- 0:15Speaker 1: have we still have manager openings. We had a one
- 0:18Speaker 1: filled yesterday and then it's opt in or opt out city,
- 0:22Speaker 1: which we're about to cover. So the MLB calendar is
- 0:27Speaker 1: really nice a jay for show purposes. For our kind
- 0:31Speaker 1: of show, MLB calendar is legit.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, just the the free agent period lasts forever, so
- 0:39Speaker 2: we always have something to talk about and we always
- 0:41Speaker 2: have songs that producer Lady can make about things that
- 0:45Speaker 2: you know take too longer than they should.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Actually, that's a good point real quick before we start.
- 0:51Speaker 1: If there's one big storyline to follow, like where will
- 0:54Speaker 1: want go from last year? What is it?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Where will Turk schooble next year? Mmm?
- 1:02Speaker 3: Mmm, that's a new one side side note B where
- 1:08Speaker 3: we'll top Tuck.
- 1:10Speaker 1: But like, is that does that have as much intrigue
- 1:13Speaker 1: as where we want to go?
- 1:14Speaker 2: He's been injured the last two years? I mean no, not.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's there's not a guy on this year's free agent
- 1:20Speaker 2: crop where you're like, man, this guy can like change
- 1:23Speaker 2: it because it was supposed to be Vladdie Vladdie Daddy.
- 1:26Speaker 2: But Vladdy Daddy instead decided to stay in Toronto for
- 1:30Speaker 2: only five hundred million. I don't know how he could
- 1:32Speaker 2: just you know, only five hundred million, but he decided
- 1:36Speaker 2: to stay, and good for him. But the free agent,
- 1:39Speaker 2: the rest of the free agent. Tucker's been hurt the
- 1:41Speaker 2: last couple of years. His production went down a little bit.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So yeah, bo, I guess bo has banged up though,
- 1:46Speaker 2: So who's who's the big name? Maybe that's what I
- 1:48Speaker 2: should ask you? Who's the biggest name? Tucker and Boba Schett?
- 1:52Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker is going to receive the most money. I
- 1:55Speaker 1: think Bobachett's name is just as, if not bigger than Kyle's.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And Kyle is super low key quiet.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But is Kyle? Is Kyle a franchise changing guy? Right?
- 2:06Speaker 3: Like?
- 2:06Speaker 2: Can he can? He single handedly? Because even Jim Bowden
- 2:09Speaker 2: yesterday when we had Jim Boden on, He's like, he
- 2:12Speaker 2: needs to go to a team where he's not the guy.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Well do you pay a guy four hundred million dollars
- 2:16Speaker 2: to not be the guy? Cory Seger?
- 2:19Speaker 3: Cory Seger ask I would put him in that in
- 2:21Speaker 3: that realm where you're like, man, you can pencil him
- 2:24Speaker 3: in if he's healthy for an ops plus of you
- 2:29Speaker 3: know one, So he's going to do his thing if healthy.
- 2:34Speaker 3: But yeah, you can pay four hundred million if Like,
- 2:37Speaker 3: I don't think every superstar is the leader of the team.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I'm trying to think. I didn't say the leader, but
- 2:45Speaker 2: I said somebody that you know. You don't have to
- 2:47Speaker 2: be the leader, but you have to be someone where
- 2:50Speaker 2: that can he is the team is the team is
- 2:55Speaker 2: in Cory Seger is that guy in Texas. I'm sorry.
- 2:57Speaker 2: The team goes as he goes. I think Tucker us
- 3:01Speaker 2: you think you think you think he's a guy, you
- 3:04Speaker 2: think he can be Batman and he's not a Robin
- 3:07Speaker 2: I do.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I think he can be. I think if you're looking
- 3:10Speaker 3: for that, I mean, I think we've seen it in
- 3:12Speaker 3: Corey Seeger. And besides the fact that Cory Seger plays
- 3:15Speaker 3: shortstop that that's so tough to have somebody that's not
- 3:18Speaker 3: the guy that's not playing a premium position. But I
- 3:21Speaker 3: think if you at court Kyle Tucker to a lineup,
- 3:25Speaker 3: that is a guy that you're always worried about every
- 3:28Speaker 3: time you're playing against him. He can come up with
- 3:30Speaker 3: the big hit he's always been. He's always been Robin
- 3:35Speaker 3: on the teams. But he's played better than Batman on
- 3:38Speaker 3: some of the teams. I guess not this year on
- 3:41Speaker 3: the Cubs. He wasn't This year on the Cubs. He
- 3:43Speaker 3: was supposed to be the guy, and early in the
- 3:45Speaker 3: season Pa was the one getting all the love. PCA
- 3:49Speaker 3: was like he was the don and then you know,
- 3:53Speaker 3: he still just did what he did, did what Tucker does. Yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 3: he didn't have a good year.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Kyle Tucker will not look at this year and say
- 4:04Speaker 2: I didn't have a good year because he missed a
- 4:06Speaker 2: lot of it.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Good game for game numbers, he didn't miss as much
- 4:09Speaker 1: as you think. He missed like three.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But the second half he was not good. But you're
- 4:15Speaker 2: paying for the whole season. I get it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: The second half he wasn't as good. But unless you're
- 4:19Speaker 3: gonna tell me he's on the decline, I'm not gonna
- 4:22Speaker 3: buy him at all. His second half wasn't as good.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I didn't say that. I'm just saying the last two
- 4:26Speaker 2: years he's been injured and the numbers have not been
- 4:30Speaker 2: I mean twenty two homer seventy three RBIs and five
- 4:34Speaker 2: hundred of bats is that four hundred and twenty two million.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I mean, I'm just asking. This is not an opinion
- 4:38Speaker 2: either way. I mean, he was a one forty three
- 4:39Speaker 2: OPS plus, which is a little bit higher than his average,
- 4:43Speaker 2: which is one forty. For his career. His OPS was
- 4:47Speaker 2: down a little bit eight forty one. I mean, I
- 4:50Speaker 2: don't know. I'm just I'm just asking, like this isn't
- 4:52Speaker 2: I don't have an opinion either way. I don't really
- 4:54Speaker 2: care to be honest with you. I hope he gets
- 4:55Speaker 2: every dollar. I'm just asking because, like Jim Boden said
- 4:58Speaker 2: the other day, is he the guy he needs to
- 5:02Speaker 2: be second? I'm not that Jim Boden's opinion. I'm not
- 5:04Speaker 2: saying either way. I don't care get seven hundred and
- 5:06Speaker 2: fifty million. I don't care, Kyle of whatever they'll pay
- 5:09Speaker 2: you take every cent because they're going to try to
- 5:11Speaker 2: limit your wages every chance they get.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's an all around player. That will change,
- 5:18Speaker 1: of course, five years. Right if he signs for ten
- 5:22Speaker 1: twelve years, he's not going to be known for his
- 5:24Speaker 1: defense in base running five to seven years from now.
- 5:28Speaker 1: My point is, right now, he's the middle of the
- 5:30Speaker 1: lineup superstar. When he's healthy. The last two years, he
- 5:34Speaker 1: has missed some pretty decent time. It was really two
- 5:37Speaker 1: years ago where he missed half the year, But before
- 5:39Speaker 1: that he had a really good run of durability. I mean,
- 5:41Speaker 1: you look at some of the injuries, I don't think
- 5:43Speaker 1: they're chronic. So I think that if you're buying into him,
- 5:47Speaker 1: he'll be a factor in terms of playing time. Like,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I don't think this is suddenly an injury prone player.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But he's super quiet, and so I wouldn't look at
- 5:56Speaker 1: him as the team leader galvanizing the boys. But like
- 6:00Speaker 1: krat said, the Rangers go as Corey Seeger goes. He's
- 6:03Speaker 1: not galvanizing the crew.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So Kevin, what did Kevin Pallara say about the Rangers?
- 6:13Speaker 1: But they want but they want.
- 6:17Speaker 2: No, I'm not. I'm not arguing that at all. Le
- 6:19Speaker 2: Tucker's won too, Kyle Tucker one in twenty two. That's right.
- 6:23Speaker 1: It's good debate. So we'll go over it to recap. Though,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I actually think where will bo Go would flow better
- 6:33Speaker 1: in terms of some type of fun animation. If producer
- 6:37Speaker 1: Lady is listening, I think that would be fun. Plus,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you're coming off the World series appearance for the Blue
- 6:42Speaker 1: Jays and they're so excited and it would be devastating
- 6:44Speaker 1: if he leaves. So where will bo go does stand
- 6:47Speaker 1: out to me more than where will Tuck tuck? And
- 6:50Speaker 1: something on terror trade rumors or something sounds intriguing. So
- 6:54Speaker 1: just some fun that could pop up. I would like
- 6:57Speaker 1: something annoying to.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Not a producer. Ladies listening. She's listening. I'm pretty sure
- 7:02Speaker 2: she does, making.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Sure whole lot in case she's checking in a guest
- 7:07Speaker 1: or something. You know, if there's some eighties music that
- 7:10Speaker 1: fits the vibe, we're just throwing it out there. All right,
- 7:14Speaker 1: let's charge let's charge out. There have been a ton
- 7:20Speaker 1: of opt outs. Most of them makes sense. There have
- 7:22Speaker 1: been some opt ins over the last twenty four hours.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Let's start with Jack Flaherty. He's gonna stay with the
- 7:27Speaker 1: Tigers for twenty twenty six. If he hit fifteen starts,
- 7:31Speaker 1: which he did this past season, it gave him the
- 7:33Speaker 1: ability to have a twenty twenty six to twenty million
- 7:36Speaker 1: dollar option. If he didn't take this, because I think
- 7:41Speaker 1: this is important, AJ the Tigers could have thrown a
- 7:44Speaker 1: qualifying offer at him because if you remember, he'd never
- 7:47Speaker 1: had the qualifying offer before that he was traded during
- 7:51Speaker 1: the twenty twenty four season to the Dodgers, so he
- 7:53Speaker 1: didn't have to deal with it at the time. I
- 7:55Speaker 1: don't think free agency went quite as he thought it
- 7:58Speaker 1: would last go round, and he has been vocal about
- 8:02Speaker 1: how it sucked. So thoughts on this decision.
- 8:05Speaker 2: For him, this is what he wanted to do. Twenty
- 8:09Speaker 2: million dollars is nothing to sneeze at. And this is
- 8:12Speaker 2: he listened. If you listen, look at his quotes, and
- 8:14Speaker 2: I've been through free agency. It's not the best time
- 8:16Speaker 2: in the world. I mean, is it great if you're
- 8:19Speaker 2: Wan Soto and if you're this guy and Cho Heeotani
- 8:22Speaker 2: and all these teams are whining and dining you. But
- 8:24Speaker 2: like his quotes make so much sense. He can make
- 8:26Speaker 2: twenty million dollars. What's the qualifying offer gonna be twenty
- 8:28Speaker 2: two million dollars, So he's gonna have to deal with
- 8:31Speaker 2: what do I take the qualifying offer? And then I
- 8:32Speaker 2: won't have as much value. Plus what he went through
- 8:34Speaker 2: last year wasn't fun for him. He had to wait, remember,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and then he ended up backing Detroit. He likes it
- 8:39Speaker 2: in Detroit. He thinks they have a chance again they're
- 8:42Speaker 2: giving him twenty million dollars. Good for you, Jack Flaherty. Listen,
- 8:46Speaker 2: everyone says, oh, you know, it's not always about the money.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Could he got more money by going on a one
- 8:50Speaker 2: year deal if they give him the qualifying offer? Sure,
- 8:53Speaker 2: but he's happy there, he likes it there. Good for you, bro, Like,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I have no problem with this. Like good if that's
- 8:59Speaker 2: what we want to be, do it, dude.
- 9:04Speaker 3: And he's going to be thirty one years old when
- 9:07Speaker 3: he's done this season. There's plenty of dudes that are
- 9:10Speaker 3: going to free agency at thirty two. He's still going
- 9:12Speaker 3: to be young. He I guess you know he has
- 9:15Speaker 3: to re up his value at fifteen losses, four to
- 9:18Speaker 3: six era, Like, Yes, he didn't have the best of years.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna deny that, So opt in, get your money.
- 9:29Speaker 3: He's gonna re He's gonna recoup his value here. And
- 9:34Speaker 3: I don't I don't know.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you can ever.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Put a dollar value outside of himself, putting a dollar
- 9:40Speaker 3: value on it, what it means to be at a
- 9:42Speaker 3: place that you like, I don't like. You can never
- 9:45Speaker 3: tell somebody, well, you know this is why, and this
- 9:48Speaker 3: is how much we feel like it's worth it. There's
- 9:51Speaker 3: you know, he's probably not going to get that much
- 9:52Speaker 3: more than the twenty one point seven qualifying offer anywhere else.
- 9:58Speaker 3: So then you're like, Okay, I don't know this place
- 10:00Speaker 3: that I'm going to go sign at. Yes, he could
- 10:03Speaker 3: get another two year deal, but to me, playing where
- 10:06Speaker 3: you're comfortable, they know him, he pitched there the last
- 10:09Speaker 3: two years and he can finish what they try to
- 10:12Speaker 3: do this year. Hopefully the team adds to that and
- 10:17Speaker 3: recoup his value and he can get three four year
- 10:20Speaker 3: deal till he's thirty five. Plenty of pitchers are being
- 10:23Speaker 3: paid till they're thirty five on very nice.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Contracts, and we have seen pitchers sign late and have
- 10:33Speaker 1: significant issues. That's part of this as well. If he
- 10:37Speaker 1: ends up having to take another one year contract and
- 10:39Speaker 1: he goes somewhere he doesn't want to go, and he
- 10:41Speaker 1: doesn't know where he's going right now, he knows where
- 10:43Speaker 1: he's going on November fourth, versus potentially February fourth, March fourth.
- 10:52Speaker 2: He can get his place in Lakeland, he can get
- 10:54Speaker 2: his place in Detroit already. I mean, he can have
- 10:56Speaker 2: everything ready to go again. There's something to be said
- 11:00Speaker 2: like krat said, for knowing where you're going, enjoying where
- 11:04Speaker 2: you're at. Listen to somebody that took less money multiple
- 11:07Speaker 2: times to stay with the with the White Sox, which
- 11:08Speaker 2: I look back on and I was like, man, I
- 11:10Speaker 2: should have got more money, But it was where I
- 11:12Speaker 2: was happy, is where my family was happy, and that's
- 11:14Speaker 2: where I liked and where I wanted to be. So
- 11:16Speaker 2: I mean because at the end, I mean, I wanted
- 11:18Speaker 2: to sign back there again after my last year there
- 11:20Speaker 2: and they wanted nothing to do with me. But I
- 11:22Speaker 2: was loyal all those years until you know, then I
- 11:24Speaker 2: was a free agent again and they didn't want anything
- 11:26Speaker 2: to do with me. So I mean, you know, but
- 11:28Speaker 2: for those eight years where I was there, it was great,
- 11:30Speaker 2: and I took less money to go there and stay
- 11:33Speaker 2: there because my family was happy. I was happy, I
- 11:35Speaker 2: had a place there. I knew what I was doing
- 11:37Speaker 2: for spring training, I knew the people there. It was
- 11:39Speaker 2: just a good place to be. So you can't put
- 11:41Speaker 2: a value on quality of life.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I'm sorry, enjoy but enjoying, but enjoying that place is
- 11:52Speaker 3: I think you play better. Maybe maybe I never got
- 11:54Speaker 3: to stay in one place, so maybe I can't speak
- 11:57Speaker 3: on this. But like if your family is taken care of,
- 12:01Speaker 3: if they enjoy where you're at, if there's a comfortability
- 12:03Speaker 3: there not a complacency comfortability, then you play. I assume
- 12:10Speaker 3: you play better. I never got to experience that, but
- 12:14Speaker 3: I would. That's what I hear AJ saying.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Real quick. From a statistical standpoint, Jack flaherty one hundred
- 12:23Speaker 1: and sixty one innings this year for six four R
- 12:26Speaker 1: Ray expected Era four O four a little bit better.
- 12:32Speaker 1: But the stackcast page does have a lot of blue
- 12:36Speaker 1: and gray. I mean, the strikeout percentage is twenty seven
- 12:39Speaker 1: point six, that's eighty second percentile. A lot of the
- 12:42Speaker 1: rest are not fantastic, so there's there's risk. I mean,
- 12:46Speaker 1: that is what front offices are looking at right. Jack
- 12:50Speaker 1: was not going to be a wind and dyed guy.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He was going to be.
- 12:52Speaker 4: A well, I say, a little blue and gray on
- 12:55Speaker 4: this part basketball VLO ninety two point eight, and often
- 13:00Speaker 4: you'll see you start where if he's whatever ninety three,
- 13:03Speaker 4: ninety four, ninety five, it's great. If it's a little
- 13:05Speaker 4: lower that day, it's not like they're going to point
- 13:07Speaker 4: out all the things, all the pimples, and he doesn't
- 13:10Speaker 4: have to deal with that now, so I.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Give him credit. Good for you, go back to a
- 13:14Speaker 1: place you like, focus on winning. You're getting plenty of money,
- 13:17Speaker 1: and his off season is now set. Hey subscribe to
- 13:21Speaker 1: foul Territory two hundred eighty one. I think thousand subs,
- 13:28Speaker 1: so we'd like to get to three hundred in the
- 13:31Speaker 1: next month or two. That'd be great. Give us a
- 13:34Speaker 1: little sup Thank you very much. Baseball the way it
- 13:36Speaker 1: should be covered. That's a T shirt fould Territory shop
- 13:39Speaker 1: dot com. Trevor Story staying with the Red Sox two years,
- 13:45Speaker 1: fifty five million dollars left on his contract. AJ to me,
- 13:49Speaker 1: this was a no brainer.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, And he had a good year of this
- 13:54Speaker 2: year too. Let's not forget so this was one of
- 13:57Speaker 2: those that was never going to opt outunless he went crazy.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But he had he had good years. Yeah, he had
- 14:02Speaker 2: a good year this year, so good for him.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Did a good year, but he had a lot of
- 14:09Speaker 1: injuries before that. So the question always is a do
- 14:13Speaker 1: you like where you are? And then B or really
- 14:16Speaker 1: it should be B do you like where you are?
- 14:18Speaker 1: A what would you get as a free agent? Krats
- 14:21Speaker 1: He's not getting to fifty five as a free agent.
- 14:25Speaker 3: No, he might get fifty five, but they would spread
- 14:29Speaker 3: it out. They would spread it out way more so,
- 14:33Speaker 3: just because the shortstop class and free agency I don't
- 14:36Speaker 3: think is very big.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I don't think my biggest fifty five total.
- 14:41Speaker 2: You don't think he would get that.
- 14:42Speaker 1: No, I think he would get maybe two, maybe two
- 14:47Speaker 1: years fifty five.
- 14:48Speaker 2: He's not getting to fifty five.
- 14:50Speaker 1: They said maybe he would get like three years or
- 14:53Speaker 1: four years fifty five. I don't think you would get
- 14:55Speaker 1: fifty plus guaranteed.
- 14:56Speaker 2: To just give him take the two fifty five and
- 14:58Speaker 2: then maybe try to sign for an other year or
- 15:00Speaker 2: two at a time. Yeah, that's this was This is.
- 15:03Speaker 1: A what do you get if he's a free agent? Though?
- 15:05Speaker 1: AJ right now?
- 15:06Speaker 2: Forty maybe two forty maybe.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say two in the thirties, two thirty two,
- 15:13Speaker 1: sixteen a year something like that, based on agent injury history.
- 15:18Speaker 1: What were you gonna say, A Crafts we got a minute?
- 15:20Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, I just I mean, I love the
- 15:23Speaker 3: fact that he came back from that shoulder injury and
- 15:26Speaker 3: he's throwing the ball. Well, I know he had a
- 15:27Speaker 3: stretch right at the end of the season where he
- 15:29Speaker 3: was really kicking the ball around a little bit, and
- 15:31Speaker 3: he said, maybe I'm getting a little tired, but I
- 15:35Speaker 3: think he adds I think he adds a swag to
- 15:37Speaker 3: that team that's needed. And if his defense stays like
- 15:41Speaker 3: it was all the way up until the very end
- 15:43Speaker 3: of the season, they need defense bad.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be good for Boston and they'll have depth.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Marcella Meyer's gonna come back this season. Two's rookie and
- 15:53Speaker 1: then got hurt. Hey may Day is part of the
- 15:56Speaker 1: FT Network. We're going to be shouting out more of
- 15:58Speaker 1: our shows just to make sure everyone knows because there
- 16:00Speaker 1: are many of them. Trevor may bringing it once a week.
- 16:05Speaker 1: You can catch Trevor Live, so same thing. If you
- 16:07Speaker 1: have questions for Trevor, go for it. Trevor's fantastic. He
- 16:11Speaker 1: does it kind of in a late night talk show style,
- 16:14Speaker 1: so if you've never seen the show, it's got a
- 16:16Speaker 1: lot of FT vibes with the way that he breaks
- 16:19Speaker 1: down the news. Chandler, rome part of Crush Shitty Territory,
- 16:24Speaker 1: said the astros have placed Chas McCormick on outright Waivers.
- 16:30Speaker 1: There were other tweets I think from Chandler about how
- 16:32Speaker 1: Chas was really a great success story Kratz. I think
- 16:35Speaker 1: he was from your neck of the woods. He's definitely
- 16:38Speaker 1: a Philly sports fan, and he was a late, late
- 16:41Speaker 1: round draft pick and they did a nice job developing him.
- 16:44Speaker 1: He's had tougher times the last couple of years, but
- 16:47Speaker 1: he had some really big moments for the Astros.
- 16:50Speaker 3: This is, you know, this is where you can get
- 16:52Speaker 3: extra value out of out of your organization. I think
- 16:56Speaker 3: some of the Astros have done really really well. Kind
- 16:58Speaker 3: of a unique right handed wing where what he does
- 17:02Speaker 3: is kind of scissors and he drives the ball the
- 17:04Speaker 3: opposite field with ridiculous power, and he's kind of he's
- 17:08Speaker 3: dealt with some injuries recently. It kind of played through him.
- 17:11Speaker 3: So you know, hopefully, hopefully a team sees his value
- 17:14Speaker 3: and experience and he can latch on somebody, maybe like
- 17:17Speaker 3: a nice little, small, one year big league deal.
- 17:23Speaker 2: It's just like a jose L Twove. That's what I mean.
- 17:25Speaker 2: That's basically what he tried to be. It was didn't
- 17:28Speaker 2: do it as well, but he tried and he listened.
- 17:30Speaker 2: He's he carved out a nice little niche for himself
- 17:33Speaker 2: in Houston, and sadly, the injuries started to affect him,
- 17:36Speaker 2: but you know, someone team will pick him up and
- 17:37Speaker 2: be like, hey, he can hit lefties, or he can
- 17:39Speaker 2: do this, he can do that, and he'll find a
- 17:41Speaker 2: job and hopefully continue to have a nice career.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Good dude, good interview too. And by the way, back
- 17:47Speaker 1: to what I was saying earlier, I was hyping may day.
- 17:50Speaker 1: May Day in fact is on today. I think give
- 17:52Speaker 1: out the time three o'clock Eastern literally right after FT. Hey,
- 18:00Speaker 1: we learned that about a week ago you Darvish had
- 18:04Speaker 1: surgery to repair his UCL and his elbow is pitching elbow.
- 18:08Speaker 1: He's gonna miss the twenty twenty six season. It does
- 18:11Speaker 1: sound like it involved the internal brace procedure. From what
- 18:15Speaker 1: I know, I only play a doctor on YouTube, podcast
- 18:19Speaker 1: and TV. That is usually a quicker recovery time. That
- 18:22Speaker 1: could be more along the lines of the twelve month
- 18:25Speaker 1: range versus the fifteen ish month range. No, aj, I
- 18:30Speaker 1: think it's like three four months. Yeah, so maybe he'll
- 18:33Speaker 1: be back for twenty seven. How old is darbish?
- 18:35Speaker 2: By the way, I was about to look at up
- 18:38Speaker 2: forty one, I think ninety thirty nine. Okay, there's going
- 18:41Speaker 2: to be forty this year. Yeah, I know, it was
- 18:43Speaker 2: something like that.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yep, so he's out. Let me just set this up.
- 18:47Speaker 1: AJ from a starting rotation perspective for San Diego right now,
- 18:52Speaker 1: they're coming in about twenty million dollars under last year's
- 18:55Speaker 1: payroll according to Cott's contracts, but that is taking away. Yes,
- 19:00Speaker 1: Michael King, both free agents. Now, let me set up
- 19:04Speaker 1: the current rotation for them. Nick Povetta still on for
- 19:07Speaker 1: next year, coming off a career year great. Joe Musgrove
- 19:10Speaker 1: will be back next season. JP Sears Trade Edition along
- 19:14Speaker 1: with Mason Miller. During the deadline, Randy Vozkaz had a
- 19:17Speaker 1: one to eleven ERA plus. It was his best year
- 19:20Speaker 1: and his velocity was up. Drake got to walk strike
- 19:23Speaker 1: cuts in general are very low, but back end guy
- 19:26Speaker 1: right now, mount Waldron's listed there, but they'll pick somebody up.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So AJ thoughts on the San Diego rotation in the
- 19:32Speaker 1: work that they have to do this offseason.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I hope they get a payroll bump because otherwise it's
- 19:38Speaker 2: going to be struggle city. I mean, I know they
- 19:39Speaker 2: have free agents, but man, you're talking about losing Dylan Cees.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Michael King, you Darvish, Yes, I know. Musgrove's come back.
- 19:45Speaker 2: What do they do with Mason Miller. Do they forgot
- 19:47Speaker 2: Robert Suarez is also gone too, So let's not forget
- 19:49Speaker 2: that he's gone. So they're gonna have to figure this
- 19:52Speaker 2: out on the fly. This is why A. J. Preller
- 19:55Speaker 2: Crawts kind of joked earlier that they would Probler would
- 19:57Speaker 2: trade all thirty of his prospects. Don't be surprised if
- 20:01Speaker 2: the Padre has made some more moves. And I mean,
- 20:03Speaker 2: I'm serious, like you joked about that, but man, I
- 20:07Speaker 2: could see this being being the year Repeller has to
- 20:09Speaker 2: trade everybody. He might be trading guys that he ain't
- 20:12Speaker 2: even drafted. You He's like, well, we have the twentieth pick.
- 20:14Speaker 2: We're gonna draft this guy, so we can trade him too.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Obviously I'm no good at making trade predictions, but just
- 20:24Speaker 3: scan what did the Tigers struggle at last year? And
- 20:28Speaker 3: maybe the Tigers they trade terror Scooble and they're like,
- 20:30Speaker 3: you know what, we're just not competing. We're just not
- 20:32Speaker 3: going to compete if they trade terror Scooble. But if
- 20:35Speaker 3: they are saying, okay, we want to compete, what would
- 20:39Speaker 3: the Padres have positionally to get Terrek Scooble because they
- 20:44Speaker 3: need some offense. I know, if they lose terror Scooble,
- 20:47Speaker 3: they need pitching. But maybe they could use that one
- 20:50Speaker 3: hundred and sixty million they offered Alex Bragman last year
- 20:53Speaker 3: and get a Ranger Suarez and get a Franbervaldez type
- 20:57Speaker 3: of pitcher, not as good as Arrek Scouble, but kind
- 21:00Speaker 3: of a replacement, and maybe you get a big league
- 21:02Speaker 3: bat out of that very nice starting lineup that I
- 21:07Speaker 3: think has pieces, just not a lot of power pieces
- 21:10Speaker 3: from last year.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Should Mason Miller consider going back to being a starter,
- 21:17Speaker 1: Remember he came up as a starter. He's a brilliant reliever.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I've asked him on this show about it, and so
- 21:23Speaker 1: far he's been like, no, not really thinking about that.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Media pundits, analytics nerds sometimes bring it up. I'm just
- 21:31Speaker 1: bringing it up. Here's an article from R. J. Anderson
- 21:33Speaker 1: on CVS. You Darvish's injury hurts Padres already thin rotation
- 21:36Speaker 1: makes it more likely Mason Miller starts in twenty twenty six. AJ,
- 21:41Speaker 1: that's a little clickbaity. I wouldn't say more likely. It's
- 21:44Speaker 1: not really become a thing yet. AJ. Prowler hasn't said no,
- 21:47Speaker 1: But this is going to be up to Mason Miller.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Would you risk this? Miller did have injury issues in
- 21:52Speaker 1: the past, and he's been pretty damn durable and top
- 21:56Speaker 1: three closer in baseball.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I'd be if I'm Mason Miller, I'd be like, oh,
- 22:00Speaker 2: we just lost Robert Soarez. Oh, I can be the closer,
- 22:03Speaker 2: and I can close forty, save forty plus games and
- 22:06Speaker 2: get extra paid again and make another All Star team.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Like their ability was an issue with Mason Miller as
- 22:11Speaker 2: a starter, I'd just like to see him stick with
- 22:14Speaker 2: what he is and go out and find someone else. Because, listen,
- 22:17Speaker 2: no player will not I shouldn't say that because we
- 22:18Speaker 2: saw the Rockey Devers this year, but most players aren't
- 22:21Speaker 2: going to say if the team comes and says, hey
- 22:22Speaker 2: want you to be a starter, they're not going to
- 22:24Speaker 2: say no, we want you to do this. Once you's
- 22:26Speaker 2: theither going to say yes, yes, whatever you want. I'm
- 22:27Speaker 2: here for the team. But if I'm Mason Miller, I'm like,
- 22:30Speaker 2: please don't ask me that question. Just let me stay
- 22:32Speaker 2: where I'm at and have the ninth inning and save
- 22:35Speaker 2: forty plus games and go on to next year.
- 22:38Speaker 3: I have to disagree. If I'm Mason Miller, what maximizes
- 22:44Speaker 3: your value as a player. And now again, I'm not
- 22:47Speaker 3: a pitcher and never worried about getting hurt. I never
- 22:50Speaker 3: was like should I do this or this in the
- 22:54Speaker 3: game because I could get hurt.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Now I got it.
- 22:56Speaker 3: It's different as a picture and closers are easily the
- 23:01Speaker 3: easiest to stay healthy because they are not worn out
- 23:04Speaker 3: like other bullpen guys. So to me, I'm washing away
- 23:08Speaker 3: like injury risk as a player. I'm just I'm not
- 23:11Speaker 3: thinking about that. What gets you the most money? I
- 23:14Speaker 3: think Josh Hater signed the largest free agent contract for
- 23:17Speaker 3: a reliever. I think he beat Edwin Diaz's contract and
- 23:21Speaker 3: he got just over.
- 23:22Speaker 2: One hundred million dollars.
- 23:24Speaker 3: You can name handfuls of starting pitchers that got over
- 23:28Speaker 3: one hundred million dollars. So to me, his max earning,
- 23:32Speaker 3: I mean, we got dudes getting eighteen a year as
- 23:35Speaker 3: starters that aren't very good starters. Mason Miller, if he
- 23:41Speaker 3: sees himself, if he thinks I can be a big
- 23:44Speaker 3: league starter because of how I feel, what I've learned
- 23:46Speaker 3: in my two plus years almost three years in the
- 23:49Speaker 3: big leagues, Yes, I can make the adjustment from what
- 23:52Speaker 3: I was before, and I will make.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Shoot in two years.
- 23:56Speaker 3: If he takes what he does doesn't depend over. Starting
- 24:01Speaker 3: in two years, he could be a nine figure, nine
- 24:05Speaker 3: figure contract. I don't see that happening if he stays
- 24:09Speaker 3: in his current role.
- 24:11Speaker 1: You guys, remember Homer Bailey in twenty fourteen, never made
- 24:14Speaker 1: an All Star game six years one oh five. That's
- 24:17Speaker 1: I think still more in net present value than any
- 24:21Speaker 1: closer has ever been paid.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Here's here's the thing about that. Though. Yeah you can say, yeah,
- 24:25Speaker 2: I'm not worried about it getting injured. I get that,
- 24:27Speaker 2: But they tried this and it didn't work. Also, like
- 24:29Speaker 2: the A's tried this, AS would have much rather have
- 24:31Speaker 2: Mason Miller to be a starter, you know, cause there
- 24:34Speaker 2: was control problems, whether it was injuries, whether whatever it was.
- 24:36Speaker 2: They were like, you know what, you're going to be
- 24:37Speaker 2: better suited. And I just think for the long term
- 24:41Speaker 2: of him, is he gonna make the same money? Probably not,
- 24:45Speaker 2: But is he going to make enough money where he's good?
- 24:47Speaker 2: I think so. I mean, you know, Plus I don't know,
- 24:51Speaker 2: I just think I think that if I'm Mason Miller,
- 24:53Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm very comfortable with my role. I want
- 24:55Speaker 2: to stay where I am. If they ask, He'll probably
- 24:57Speaker 2: do it. That's what I'm saying. He's probably going. Don't
- 24:59Speaker 2: ask these these just don't ask me.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I'm in between you, guys, because I don't know if
- 25:05Speaker 1: they tried long enough and if it was the right
- 25:08Speaker 1: organization to try it with him just throwing that out there,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and I even stand corrected on myself one time we
- 25:14Speaker 1: asked him, it was more shot down. The last time
- 25:17Speaker 1: it was asked on FT was when lance Lynn was
- 25:19Speaker 1: hosting an episode on August fourth, and he said, not
- 25:22Speaker 1: right now, but he said there are possibilities of that
- 25:25Speaker 1: in the future.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Six starts, six six big league starts. He had a
- 25:31Speaker 3: three three, seven eight era as a big league starter,
- 25:37Speaker 3: thirty eight innings, sixteen walks, So the walks were were problematic.
- 25:42Speaker 3: But again, guys learn. Guys learn, like you figure out
- 25:46Speaker 3: what your mechanics need to be, how you need to
- 25:49Speaker 3: do this to recover, and you look back two years.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Sometimes you even look back one year and be like, ah, man,
- 25:55Speaker 3: I wish I knew that. I wish I knew that
- 25:57Speaker 3: a year ago. It would have really helped to me
- 26:00Speaker 3: in this situation.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 26:03Speaker 3: I if I were his agent, duh, no, duh. If
- 26:07Speaker 3: I but if I were giving him advice, I would say,
- 26:10Speaker 3: how do you feel?
- 26:11Speaker 2: How do you recover?
- 26:12Speaker 3: He had the thing with the diabetes that he was
- 26:14Speaker 3: diagnosed in college and it really helped him understand his body.
- 26:19Speaker 3: So I think he's still on that journey. And I think, shoot,
- 26:22Speaker 3: if the Padres, if the Padres could turn him into
- 26:24Speaker 3: a starter, like that trade that they made to get him,
- 26:28Speaker 3: because they have a closer, Jeremiah Strona can step in
- 26:31Speaker 3: as a closer, so they're not afraid of the closer
- 26:35Speaker 3: position going down. It's just you're losing two elite closers
- 26:39Speaker 3: in one season.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Think it's a good topic. Maybe we can ask Mason
- 26:44Speaker 1: at some point this offseason if he's been asked, if
- 26:47Speaker 1: it's considered, and the questions that Kratz is going over. Hey,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I've got a quote from Walt Weiss during his press
- 26:52Speaker 1: conference yesterday. Asked about analytics, probably because he's over sixty
- 26:56Speaker 1: and people think he can't grasp them, that's insane, he said,
- 26:59Speaker 1: I've evolved with the game. I think if you don't,
- 27:01Speaker 1: you're fool. My philosophy is, why would anybody, especially in
- 27:04Speaker 1: a position of leadership turn their back on information. Alex
- 27:07Speaker 1: Anthopolis has done a great job. His team has done
- 27:09Speaker 1: a great job of blending the wisdom that comes from
- 27:11Speaker 1: being in uniform for a number of years and the
- 27:13Speaker 1: information that's available out to us today and the technology
- 27:17Speaker 1: that's available. You know, some fans AJ brought up how
- 27:21Speaker 1: Hammer Territory was a little more critical of this move.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I actually spoke to some of the hosts and Hammers,
- 27:25Speaker 1: so I gave him our perspective, and I think that's good.
- 27:29Speaker 1: That's why we have shows on the FT network that
- 27:32Speaker 1: completely disagree with us on topics all across the board.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It could be the CBA, it could be manager player decisions.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Whatever we're going one way, they didn't go totally the
- 27:41Speaker 1: other way. They were just a little more of like
- 27:43Speaker 1: a five, where I feel like our group was more
- 27:45Speaker 1: of like an eight, nine or ten on the higher.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I love it. I love what he said though, like
- 27:50Speaker 2: you have to evolve. You can't nobody stays the same.
- 27:53Speaker 2: If you stay the same and you're losing, Like you
- 27:55Speaker 2: have to evolve, you have to change. And if the
- 27:57Speaker 2: game changes a certain way, if you want to stick around,
- 27:59Speaker 2: you have to make some adjustments and I think Paul
- 28:02Speaker 2: Weiss has done that. He said he's done it, and listen.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I mean, I know people that were totally anti analytics
- 28:08Speaker 2: for a long time. And if you don't use the
- 28:10Speaker 2: information properly, then you're gonna fall behind. So you have
- 28:13Speaker 2: to be able to adapt and adjust.
- 28:16Speaker 3: I think the reason the old guys, as they're said,
- 28:19Speaker 3: or the guys who are like I'm gunst analytics, is
- 28:23Speaker 3: they feel like they're experienced. They feel like and I
- 28:26Speaker 3: had this argument with Willie Randolph. He's like, I don't
- 28:29Speaker 3: need to hear this stuff. He's like, and he's slowly
- 28:32Speaker 3: come around, and I said, how many games have you
- 28:35Speaker 3: watched managed played all that stuff? He's like, ah, five thousand.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I said, well, what if you had watched ten thousand.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I was like, would that person know more than you?
- 28:45Speaker 3: He's like, well yeah, I said, well that's what analytics is.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Analytics is all the games put all in there, and
- 28:51Speaker 3: it's giving you the information. And just like Walt said,
- 28:55Speaker 3: just a little nugget, I'm gonna take a little bit here,
- 28:57Speaker 3: because one game, one little thing can swing one game,
- 29:02Speaker 3: which can swing your entire season.
- 29:05Speaker 1: To me, it's a high floor, high ceiling higher I
- 29:07Speaker 1: like it also. By the way, remember Brent Strom has
- 29:10Speaker 1: been a pitching coach in baseball for so many years
- 29:13Speaker 1: as one of the older pitching coaches. Man, he was
- 29:16Speaker 1: frontline analytics way before it was Cool Kraft you probably know,
- 29:20Speaker 1: but man, he was spin Ray, fastball up, IVB all
- 29:25Speaker 1: that stuff way back.
- 29:28Speaker 2: He was sticky guy too.
- 29:31Speaker 1: That hey that worked. That was analytics in the weeds.
- 29:41Speaker 1: We covered this topic with Ken Rosenthal, so if you
- 29:43Speaker 1: want more from Ken, you can check out that clip
- 29:46Speaker 1: or that segment, but we are going to touch on
- 29:48Speaker 1: this ourselves. The most surprising opt in is Shane Bieber.
- 29:55Speaker 1: A couple days after the World Series, he decides, I'll
- 29:58Speaker 1: take that sixteen million dollars player option instead of the
- 30:01Speaker 1: four million dollars to buy out. So that means if
- 30:06Speaker 1: he had gotten twelve million bucks on the free agent market,
- 30:09Speaker 1: he would have been richer. He's also signing back with
- 30:12Speaker 1: the team that's going to take the biggest hit from
- 30:15Speaker 1: a tax perspective. That's a real thing. As we always
- 30:18Speaker 1: talk about in the off seasons. AJ, how shocked were
- 30:21Speaker 1: you that Shane Bieber opted to not hit free agency
- 30:24Speaker 1: and do this instead. There are some that thought he
- 30:27Speaker 1: would get significant money. Tim Britton does a whole deal
- 30:30Speaker 1: on the athletic and said three years sixty something mil
- 30:33Speaker 1: if he was in the free agent market. That doesn't
- 30:34Speaker 1: mean he's right, But that's a big difference between sixty
- 30:37Speaker 1: three million and sixteen.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but he's happy there. We talked, you kind of
- 30:43Speaker 2: hit on a little bit. Maybe he likes the medical
- 30:45Speaker 2: staff there, Maybe he likes his wife is happy there.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Just listen, guys make decisions for all different reasons. It's
- 30:52Speaker 2: not always. I know everyone says its always about the money,
- 30:54Speaker 2: It's really not sometimes about happiness. Shaan Bieber has made
- 30:57Speaker 2: a lot of money. Maybe he just is happy in Toronto.
- 31:00Speaker 2: He likes the trainer, he likes the clubhouse guy, he
- 31:02Speaker 2: likes the food, he likes the city. I don't know,
- 31:05Speaker 2: but he's happy there. He wants to try to run
- 31:07Speaker 2: it back. And all you heard from these Toronto guys
- 31:09Speaker 2: was how much they loved each other. So I can't.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I can't fault a guy for one to stay somewhere
- 31:13Speaker 2: like Jack Flaherty, I can't fault him. He likes it there,
- 31:16Speaker 2: he's happy. Good for you.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I gotta follow, I gotta I'll be happy. Question what
- 31:24Speaker 1: if he had contacted the Blue Jays and said, hey,
- 31:28Speaker 1: let's try and make something work, either short term or
- 31:30Speaker 1: long term before I even hit free agency. I liked
- 31:34Speaker 1: it that much. That gives leverage back to the organization.
- 31:37Speaker 1: They're going to get a quote discount compared to the market.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Why do you think he jumped it so quickly? He
- 31:44Speaker 1: was that excited coming off what he was. And I
- 31:46Speaker 1: know what you're saying, Aja, I'm just curious, like, why
- 31:49Speaker 1: doesn't a team reach out like his team reach out
- 31:53Speaker 1: and say, hey, we loved this so much, let's try
- 31:56Speaker 1: and work something out, whether it's one year deal.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Or maybe that's coming. Maybe that's the works. Maybe that's
- 32:01Speaker 2: in the works, and he had to make a decision. Now,
- 32:03Speaker 2: Maybe they do like Salvador Perez does, and he signs
- 32:05Speaker 2: a two year deal down the road, right, Maybe that's it.
- 32:08Speaker 2: We don't know, but I know this is you have
- 32:10Speaker 2: what seven days after the World Series ends to make
- 32:13Speaker 2: a decision as a player opt in or opt out
- 32:15Speaker 2: in clubs. I mean, the World Series ended on Saturday.
- 32:19Speaker 2: You don't have a lot of true time to make
- 32:20Speaker 2: a decision to try to negotiate a new deal. So
- 32:22Speaker 2: maybe they came to an agreement said hey, I'll take
- 32:24Speaker 2: this one year deal if you guys pick me up
- 32:27Speaker 2: for another year or two down the road. We don't
- 32:29Speaker 2: know that he could happen.
- 32:31Speaker 3: I feel like there's something else that we're not that
- 32:33Speaker 3: we don't know about this, Like just that he enjoyed
- 32:36Speaker 3: his time, that's awesome, but I mean guys, guys spend
- 32:42Speaker 3: a lot of time to try to get to free agency.
- 32:45Speaker 3: They try really hard. He wouldn't have gotten a qualifying
- 32:49Speaker 3: offer after this season. He technically would get a qualifying
- 32:52Speaker 3: offer if becomes becomes a free agent.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I feel like there's something something more that could come
- 32:58Speaker 2: out of us.
- 33:01Speaker 1: That's a good point on the qualifying offer, and that
- 33:02Speaker 1: is a significant hamper on pitchers like him. Now he
- 33:07Speaker 1: does get to pitch a full season if healthy, and
- 33:11Speaker 1: show his value and then hit the free agent market again.
- 33:14Speaker 1: But the biggest punishment in free agency is age. So
- 33:17Speaker 1: you're racking up another year before you're hitting free agency.
- 33:20Speaker 1: And I would say this is a okay free agent class.
- 33:24Speaker 1: This is not like a whole wow, there's just aces
- 33:27Speaker 1: left and right. This is one that he probably could
- 33:30Speaker 1: have capitalized on. And and AJ I think the starting
- 33:36Speaker 1: Pitcher was valued a little bit more this postseason, and
- 33:39Speaker 1: this is a copycat league, and teams would have been
- 33:41Speaker 1: like starters are pretty important.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, there's more to it. We don't know Scott.
- 33:48Speaker 2: He made his decision, but let's not criticize the guy
- 33:50Speaker 2: for making the decision that he had the opportunity to make,
- 33:53Speaker 2: and he made the decision that he felt was best
- 33:55Speaker 2: for him and his family. So congratulates. It's rare that
- 33:59Speaker 2: people put leave fifty million dollars on the table. That's
- 34:03Speaker 2: that's rare. If you're thinking, you don't know that, we
- 34:06Speaker 2: don't know that he could have got fifty million more.
- 34:08Speaker 3: I mean, we don't know the with with no qualifying offer.
- 34:12Speaker 3: He's thirty years old, coming off the year that he did.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Everybody knows that Tommy John's you know, six years you
- 34:18Speaker 3: get six years after your Tommy John. So it's not
- 34:21Speaker 3: like this next contract would be in it. So I
- 34:24Speaker 3: think it's commendable to him. Commendable to him, and eventually
- 34:27Speaker 3: I hope we get to ask him about it and
- 34:30Speaker 3: maybe the more information will come out. Just because fifty
- 34:35Speaker 3: millions a lot when you're not when you're talking like
- 34:38Speaker 3: five hundred to five hundred and fifty million. It's when
- 34:42Speaker 3: you're talking sixteen to sixty six million, that's that's significant.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yeah, not criticizing, just pointing out, as we do on
- 34:51Speaker 1: this show, that it was a surprise. It was a
- 34:53Speaker 1: surprise to many. That was big news, and I think
- 34:56Speaker 1: it's important to cap it off this way since we
- 34:59Speaker 1: do have a large Canadian audience. This is a banger
- 35:02Speaker 1: move for the Blue Jays. This is huge for them.
- 35:05Speaker 1: They gave up a pretty decent prospect for Shane Bieber
- 35:08Speaker 1: at the trade deadline. Clearly that was worth it based
- 35:11Speaker 1: on the postseason run. And guess what, now, it's even
- 35:14Speaker 1: more worth it because you didn't know what was going
- 35:16Speaker 1: to happen, but you anticipated that if he showed health
- 35:18Speaker 1: and effectiveness, he was going to hit the free agent market.
- 35:21Speaker 1: You just got even more value out of that trade,
- 35:24Speaker 1: and you secured one of your starting pitching spots in
- 35:26Speaker 1: the rotation for next year. Huge news for the Blue Jays.
- 35:30Speaker 1: They're going to do the best they can to bring
- 35:32Speaker 1: back as much of that group as possible. Many of
- 35:34Speaker 1: them are already locked up. There's not that many, but
- 35:36Speaker 1: this was one of the question marks boom Bieber's back.
- 35:46Speaker 1: We check out at MGM Futures and we'll do it
- 35:48Speaker 1: with a tweet. First, this news just came in. The
- 35:51Speaker 1: Braves had let go of some of their coaching staff.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Freddy Gonzalez, Tom Goodwin, Rick Kranitz, Jeremy Hefner is going
- 35:59Speaker 1: to be the new pitching coach going from the Mets
- 36:01Speaker 1: to the Braves. Guess who the first base coach is
- 36:04Speaker 1: going to be? Antoine Richardson going from the Mets to
- 36:06Speaker 1: the Braves. And also not the same connection, but still
- 36:12Speaker 1: Troy Snicker, who is Brian's son, a regarded hitting coach,
- 36:16Speaker 1: is now over at the hitting situation with the Mets.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I don't know if he's what the title is, but
- 36:21Speaker 1: he's among the mix there too. So we have a
- 36:24Speaker 1: lot of incest Braves and Mets action. That's not the
- 36:29Speaker 1: right word. What's the word poaching? Yes, poaching. It's not
- 36:35Speaker 1: even poaching though, because they were like that.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Yeah, nepotism. Nepotism is the word you're looking for. Nepotism
- 36:43Speaker 2: is where you hire people because they have a name,
- 36:46Speaker 2: You give people jobs because they have a name. I
- 36:48Speaker 2: think you're thinking of amphibious.
- 36:51Speaker 1: You're well, I think our grammar is on point. What
- 36:57Speaker 1: do you think though, I think it's a great move
- 37:00Speaker 1: for Atlanta if they're going to replace who they had
- 37:02Speaker 1: a jam. I'm a fan of Haffner. I think he
- 37:05Speaker 1: got a raw deal this past season based on what
- 37:07Speaker 1: he was given to work with. You know, you can't make.
- 37:09Speaker 2: He's been good though. In the past, he's been really good,
- 37:12Speaker 2: So I don't I don't mind this move at all
- 37:14Speaker 2: for the Braves. I mean, Rick Krantz was there forever
- 37:16Speaker 2: and now he's gone. They needed someone with some experience
- 37:18Speaker 2: they went out and got. And but my question is
- 37:20Speaker 2: how much did Walt Weis's having these hirings, because they
- 37:23Speaker 2: obviously got these done really fast after hiring him, So
- 37:26Speaker 2: how much say did he have in the hirings. That's
- 37:28Speaker 2: kind of kind of the next question that needs to
- 37:30Speaker 2: be asked, Right, was he the one behind the scenes saying, Hey,
- 37:33Speaker 2: I really like you know, Jeremy Hefner, I really like
- 37:37Speaker 2: Antoine Richardson, and so where was he at? But I mean,
- 37:40Speaker 2: I like these I like these hirings, their experience and
- 37:43Speaker 2: they know what they're doing Brave.
- 37:45Speaker 1: So the Mets running this year, Hey, Anton Richardson got
- 37:49Speaker 1: Juan Soto past thirty stolen bases. I'm telling you he
- 37:52Speaker 1: had something going there over at first base that was working.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Mets stole much more than their sprint speed said they should.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Antoine, he gets it. He understands there's there's a few
- 38:01Speaker 3: first base coaches that put all the other ones to shame.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Yep, hey, real quick, bet MGM players, get yourself a
- 38:09Speaker 1: no sweat token to apply to any bet on Pro football.
- 38:11Speaker 1: You're crying baseball seasons not here to use the token
- 38:14Speaker 1: for pro football. Add a bet to your bet, or
- 38:18Speaker 1: add an event from pro football to your bet. Slip
- 38:20Speaker 1: activate the token. Get bonus bets if the bet that
- 38:23Speaker 1: was made with those bonus tokens loses, gambling problem or
- 38:27Speaker 1: concern call when a hundred gambling corner Salvi's back. We
- 38:37Speaker 1: knew that they had a club option for him, talking
- 38:40Speaker 1: about Salvador Perez for the Kansas City Royals who plan
- 38:43Speaker 1: on contending next year, but then they also tack on
- 38:46Speaker 1: another year. I mean, I was looking back, Kratz. So
- 38:50Speaker 1: I'll give you the details on this one first and
- 38:51Speaker 1: then you'll enjoy the trivia question that I have for
- 38:54Speaker 1: you guys. But he signs a two year, twenty five
- 38:58Speaker 1: million dollar contract for twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven.
- 39:02Speaker 1: He had a thirteen and a half million dollar club option,
- 39:05Speaker 1: So it's a little bit less than twenty six to
- 39:07Speaker 1: add a whole another year in twenty seven for his
- 39:09Speaker 1: ages thirty six and thirty seven seasons. Seems like a
- 39:12Speaker 1: very fair situation. Do either of you guys remember what
- 39:16Speaker 1: his first contract was with Kansas City, Not like, oh,
- 39:21Speaker 1: the league minimum. I'm saying the first one that he signed.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Anyone remember what the initial number was.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Twenty million or something? It wasn't It was nothing. It
- 39:32Speaker 2: was thirteen and a half, wasn't it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: So it was five years, seven million, with three club options,
- 39:41Speaker 1: totaling fourteen point seven five million dollars yep. In baseball terms.
- 39:49Speaker 1: That's not And you would think, oh, what was that
- 39:50Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two? Now that was twenty twelve.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but he had just come up right when he
- 39:55Speaker 2: signed it. He was super young.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it was early, so you're including I get it,
- 39:58Speaker 1: you're including the league minimum years, the arm year's still
- 40:02Speaker 1: you don't hear of anything that low. We hadn't back
- 40:05Speaker 1: then back then.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Yeah, back then, I would say I would I'll fight
- 40:09Speaker 2: you on this one. I think I think back then
- 40:11Speaker 2: it was different because I mean, I know, listen, when
- 40:14Speaker 2: I went to arbitration as a first year catcher, what
- 40:17Speaker 2: I got, and if I would have been able to
- 40:19Speaker 2: sign a five year, seven and a half million, it
- 40:23Speaker 2: wouldn't have been that far off. I would have taken
- 40:25Speaker 2: that as a pretty good deal, especially back then. I mean,
- 40:27Speaker 2: catchers don't get paid. Until recently, catchers hadn't really gotten paid.
- 40:31Speaker 2: So I kind of disagree with you on this one.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Like two thousand, I mean, yeah, he could have gotten more, Yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 2: but I don't know, just first contract. He's from Venezuela,
- 40:41Speaker 2: you know. I mean, not that that should matter, but
- 40:44Speaker 2: it does matter, man, it does. It does. Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Of course your money situation definitely matters wherever you're coming from.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I mean really, yeah, eight years, fifteen mil. For most
- 40:53Speaker 1: people in life, it's like, hell, yeah, I'm rich. But
- 40:56Speaker 1: in baseball terms, it ended up working out. I mean,
- 40:59Speaker 1: five years, fifty two and a half from seventeen to
- 41:01Speaker 1: twenty one, and then he signed another extension twenty one
- 41:05Speaker 1: spring training for four years eighty two. Now he's rich, rich,
- 41:09Speaker 1: but he's also had a nice career at this point,
- 41:13Speaker 1: and a long one.
- 41:14Speaker 3: I played with him when he was on that contract,
- 41:16Speaker 3: and he just he randomly brought it up one time.
- 41:18Speaker 3: So I'm not even giving you my opinion. I'm telling
- 41:20Speaker 3: you exactly what he told me.
- 41:22Speaker 2: He said.
- 41:23Speaker 3: He said, you have to think about the fact that
- 41:26Speaker 3: seven million dollars in Venezuela. I forget how many bees.
- 41:31Speaker 3: I wish I remember. They're called bees. Is what their
- 41:33Speaker 3: money is called?
- 41:35Speaker 2: He said.
- 41:36Speaker 3: He said, that's whatever it is, forty nine million bees.
- 41:41Speaker 3: He said, my family will never have to worry about
- 41:43Speaker 3: money again. He didn't say, Ooh, I wonder where the
- 41:47Speaker 3: rest of my money's gonna come from. Ooh, I can't
- 41:49Speaker 3: wait till I get my next contract. He's like, why
- 41:52Speaker 3: would I not sign it? He was like, I never
- 41:56Speaker 3: have any idea if I'm going to have guaranteed or
- 42:00Speaker 3: not the rest of my life.
- 42:01Speaker 2: He said.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Now my family will never have to work again in
- 42:05Speaker 3: their entire life. That was with seven million dollars. Now
- 42:10Speaker 3: look at how how much he's made.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Hondo something, we'll probably close to one fifty career innings,
- 42:17Speaker 1: if not more so. It's a lot of beets.
- 42:19Speaker 3: And anybody, anybody that ever says, oh, he shouldn't take
- 42:23Speaker 3: that or you shouldn't take that money. That's you don't
- 42:27Speaker 3: don't tell someone else what their career could be or
- 42:31Speaker 3: should be worth, because that's life changing money no matter what.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Yep, good stuff. You could say that to me about
- 42:37Speaker 1: the last segment for bringing up Bieber, but just bringing
- 42:40Speaker 1: it up reporting the news. That's how the off season goes. Hey,
- 42:55Speaker 1: let's slap crats at you're up first.
- 42:59Speaker 3: I can't give one Chicago love without giving the other
- 43:01Speaker 3: Chicago love. That and we're probably not going to talk
- 43:04Speaker 3: about him much this offseason because they've already made their
- 43:06Speaker 3: one off season move twenty million. Luis Robert, enjoy your
- 43:10Speaker 3: time there, Boom, What do you mean Jerry said they're
- 43:14Speaker 3: going to spend They did?
- 43:16Speaker 2: Fuse. They just did.
- 43:18Speaker 1: They did. They activated a dude that they just won't
- 43:21Speaker 1: give up on because they feel like they should get
- 43:24Speaker 1: something for him. There were some quotes. Maybe we'll do
- 43:26Speaker 1: a segment on it soon. One other thing I wanted
- 43:29Speaker 1: to point out, No, you don't want to do a
- 43:31Speaker 1: segment on it. We'll see, Okay. We got fifty one
- 43:37Speaker 1: million total between US, Canada and Japan for World Series
- 43:43Speaker 1: Game seven. All the numbers are in largest global audience
- 43:47Speaker 1: since the Jack Morris game seven.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Ninety one.
- 43:51Speaker 1: That was a long time ago, ninety one, long time ago.
- 43:55Speaker 1: That's good.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Good for the gay baseball's dying, right, Yeah, some people
- 44:01Speaker 2: want you to think. That's what people want you to think.
- 44:04Speaker 2: It's not true.
- 44:06Speaker 1: So who's getting a desproyed and NBA numbers? MLB destroyed NBA.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Numbers, yes, for games set. Who's getting all that money
- 44:17Speaker 3: is that the players. The players are getting all that
- 44:19Speaker 3: money from all that viewership, right, that's who's getting all
- 44:23Speaker 3: that money.
- 44:23Speaker 1: That is an incredible number since nineteen ninety one. Of course,
- 44:28Speaker 1: we've talked about the fact that Canada was super involved
- 44:32Speaker 1: for this go round. Japan is super involved for this
- 44:35Speaker 1: go round. So next year, if we don't see these teams,
- 44:38Speaker 1: don't expect to get that global number thrown your way.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Perhaps they'll go with the domestic number at that point,
- 44:44Speaker 1: But it was necessary to throw that number out there.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I mean, that is a massive number, over fifty million
- 44:50Speaker 1: people tuning in. Now, I got a double check if
- 44:53Speaker 1: that was the average. Yeah, that's the average audience. I
- 44:56Speaker 1: always like to point that part out too. There are
- 44:59Speaker 1: more people that actually tuned in. That's the average concurrent audience,
- 45:03Speaker 1: as in at one period of time throughout the game.
- 45:05Speaker 1: That is the average that you would see on the screen,
- 45:08Speaker 1: Like if you were watching YouTube right, you would see
- 45:10Speaker 1: the average for the globe at fifty one million.
- 45:15Speaker 2: What was it last year?
- 45:17Speaker 3: Because it was Dodgers Yankees, Everyone's like, whoa media darling
- 45:21Speaker 3: Dodgers Yankees.
- 45:22Speaker 2: I got it. The series wasn't good. It wasn't that.
- 45:26Speaker 2: It wasn't that high.
- 45:27Speaker 1: It was Nope, it wasn't close to that high. From
- 45:32Speaker 1: what I recall, guess it.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Was good, but it wasn't that thirties. I wouldn't even
- 45:37Speaker 2: say it was that high. I bet.
- 45:41Speaker 1: This was like a dream world series.
- 45:43Speaker 2: People were into this. People were into this World series
- 45:46Speaker 2: for a lot of reasons. One, Toronto was a new
- 45:49Speaker 2: team that people hadn't seen a whole lot of. And two,
- 45:52Speaker 2: you had a lot of people that tuned in to
- 45:53Speaker 2: watch the Dodgers lose because they were ruining baseball. So
- 45:57Speaker 2: there was people that tuned in for hate, and there
- 45:59Speaker 2: was people that tuned in to watch another team win
- 46:01Speaker 2: that was new. So this was Yes, as much as
- 46:04Speaker 2: people don't want admit it, this was a really good
- 46:06Speaker 2: World series for a lot of reasons.
- 46:10Speaker 1: That's right, dominant, dominant, very cool. We'll let you know
- 46:15Speaker 1: any other numbers that come out, but I think that
- 46:17Speaker 1: was the last big one that we were waiting for
- 46:18Speaker 1: because we had gotten US and Canada, but there's Japan.
- 46:22Speaker 1: It felt like it, it felt like everyone was watching it.
- 46:26Speaker 1: You know. I had a lot of casuals that are
- 46:28Speaker 1: in my life that were like, oh I was watching
- 46:31Speaker 1: some even that were watching Game three, which I felt
- 46:34Speaker 1: like was nuts. My older sister just watches maybe a
- 46:39Speaker 1: few games all year, and she was like, I watched
- 46:42Speaker 1: all of Game three. I was like why. I was like, you,
- 46:45Speaker 1: you watched all of Game three to go to sleep?
- 46:47Speaker 1: She's like no, I was into it.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Maybe it'll come up.
- 46:51Speaker 3: When Trey Savage, this area was just on fire because
- 46:55Speaker 3: a kid from Boyertown was in the World Series, like
- 46:59Speaker 3: barbershops and salon. So when we get Trey Savage on
- 47:02Speaker 3: here one day, you know there was casual fans, fans
- 47:06Speaker 3: that would have completely shut down watching the World Series,
- 47:11Speaker 3: watching this World Series, and they got drawn in for
- 47:14Speaker 3: a great one.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Games in a good place, last comment here on the
- 47:20Speaker 1: way out, and then you can watch Trevor Mays May day.
- 47:23Speaker 1: We announced three new shows yesterday, and some comments were like, oh,
- 47:28Speaker 1: and baseball is dying yet Foul Territory is adding shows
- 47:33Speaker 1: left and right. We ain't doing it if nobody's watching
- 47:35Speaker 1: and listening. So thank you to everyone. We're here every
- 47:39Speaker 1: single day. See everyone tomorrow
