Transcript
- 0:02Did someone have a show this morning
- 0:04talking about conspiracy theories and say
- 0:06that CrossFit may not sell?
- 0:09Where'd I hear that before?
- 0:11We're going to discuss now, live,
- 0:14Lunch with the Clydesdales.
- 0:26I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:27and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:29I always take what I want,
- 0:30and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:32Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:34Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:35I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:36Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:38Now wake up!
- 0:40It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:42Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:44friend to me.
- 0:46What's going on everybody?
- 0:47It's Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:50I don't know if you guys noticed,
- 0:51that's a new opening.
- 0:53Same pictures, different audio.
- 0:56I remove the beeps for Jody Lynn.
- 1:00Jody Lynn listens on audio in her headset.
- 1:03She's been complaining about the beeps at
- 1:05the beginning for a long time.
- 1:07I thought, let's do something fun.
- 1:09Let's change it up.
- 1:11Took out the beeps.
- 1:13Took out the beeps.
- 1:17What's going on, Tranked Olive,
- 1:20Corey Leonard, Sean, Ken?
- 1:23What's going on?
- 1:24Sean, I cannot see what your emoji is.
- 1:29It is so small.
- 1:30I don't know.
- 1:34I don't know what that is.
- 1:38It's a Bruce, Plant Powered Fitness.
- 1:42Let's get it on, guys.
- 1:44It's funny.
- 1:45Like I, I,
- 1:46I tune in to coffee cup.
- 1:49Thank you, Bruce.
- 1:51Thank you, man.
- 1:53I'm getting old.
- 1:54The bottom of the bifocals there.
- 2:01Um, so yeah.
- 2:04Um, the conspiracy theory stuff.
- 2:07I tuned into Savan this morning,
- 2:09Matt Sousa and Caleb were running the
- 2:11show.
- 2:12They're talking about conspiracy theories
- 2:14and CrossFit.
- 2:15And all of a sudden they talk about
- 2:16the sale of CrossFit.
- 2:18Is it really happening or is it not?
- 2:21And, um,
- 2:22I don't know where I've heard that before,
- 2:24but I think last Sunday night,
- 2:26a show did a segment called Factor Fiction
- 2:31and said this.
- 2:35Fiction,
- 2:37there really is no sale of CrossFit.
- 2:39They've all been duping us.
- 2:41It sort of seems that way at this
- 2:43point, huh?
- 2:44I feel like we've been waiting for like
- 2:45six months, at least from the sale talk.
- 2:48I was like, Oh,
- 2:48is it going to be right after the
- 2:49open?
- 2:50Is it going to be right before the
- 2:52games?
- 2:52No, it's going to be right after the,
- 2:53it's like, keep pushing it.
- 2:55I don't know.
- 2:57You might be onto something here.
- 2:59Like maybe, maybe nothing's happening.
- 3:03Maybe they couldn't make anything work
- 3:04out.
- 3:04Hear me out.
- 3:05Now let's go full conspiracy theory.
- 3:10Because they said they're up for sale,
- 3:12we haven't been banging on them for all
- 3:14the stuff they do poorly.
- 3:16Yeah.
- 3:17And in that time,
- 3:18they've actually started to do stuff well.
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:21Right?
- 3:21And actually start moving in the right
- 3:23direction with better marketing campaigns.
- 3:26It was a pretty good CrossFit Games this
- 3:28year.
- 3:29All the old merchandise back.
- 3:31Social media is back up and running and
- 3:33thriving again.
- 3:35CrossFit podcast is up and running.
- 3:39And now they're like, hey,
- 3:40we've got it all rolling in the right
- 3:41track now.
- 3:42And we could actually maybe wait a couple
- 3:44of years and sell it for even more.
- 3:47Yeah.
- 3:49So that was said last week,
- 3:51last Sunday night, actually,
- 3:53on Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 3:56And to be honest with you,
- 3:57I threw it in there as a thought
- 3:59of we just haven't heard anything yet.
- 4:02And if I've ever made up anything in
- 4:05my life, it was that.
- 4:07It was just to get a talk about
- 4:10they keep pushing and pushing.
- 4:12We're going to be sold.
- 4:14It's in this direction.
- 4:15It's going in this direction.
- 4:16And we haven't heard anything forever.
- 4:19And now I'm of the belief that maybe
- 4:23they've looked at the numbers or maybe the
- 4:27people,
- 4:28they said it this morning with Matt and
- 4:30Caleb,
- 4:32Maybe they looked at the numbers and said,
- 4:33ooh,
- 4:34maybe we don't want to be a part
- 4:35of this.
- 4:37Or maybe Brookshire is saying, hey,
- 4:38maybe we went about this wrong.
- 4:40Now we're seeing we can actually make some
- 4:43difference in a trend and move the needle
- 4:46in the other direction and just wait to
- 4:48make more money.
- 4:51So it's an interesting concept.
- 4:54I don't know if there's a lot of
- 4:56validity to it.
- 4:57Maybe there is.
- 4:59But it just seems odd that we just
- 5:01can't seem to get any answers on where
- 5:04this is going.
- 5:05So, yeah.
- 5:09I'm anxious to see your thoughts.
- 5:16and here i thought you were on to
- 5:17something i don't know i don't know if
- 5:19i'm on on anything we're on to anything
- 5:22ken but um yeah i don't know uh
- 5:29bruce wayne they're trying to make more
- 5:31money that could be the possibility i see
- 5:34plant-powered fitness agrees with you uh
- 5:38if i wasn't part of the crossfit community
- 5:41why would anyone want to buy something
- 5:42with all the baggage it has
- 5:49I think on the affiliate side,
- 5:50there isn't as much baggage as we think
- 5:52there is.
- 5:53For us geeks that are into the sports
- 5:57side and follow the sports all day long
- 6:00and all the drama around it has made
- 6:04us...
- 6:06it made us not how to,
- 6:09we have clouded the look at the affiliate
- 6:12side of the house.
- 6:13And that's really where the money is,
- 6:17is on the affiliate education side of
- 6:19CrossFit.
- 6:21That's what people are buying it for.
- 6:23Not for the sport.
- 6:26So, yeah, I, uh,
- 6:35Aaron Frazier, it's in a place for growth,
- 6:37buy low, sell high.
- 6:39Yeah,
- 6:39but if they can't come to an agreement
- 6:41on the purchase price of low,
- 6:44maybe Brookshire is like,
- 6:45maybe we'll just try to figure this out
- 6:48moving forward rather than sell it off.
- 6:50So I think that there's a lot still
- 6:53on the table for all of this.
- 7:00Where did the rumors that it was even
- 7:02being sold even begin?
- 7:03Maybe CrossFit media have been chasing a
- 7:06wild goose the entire time.
- 7:08CrossFit came out and said it.
- 7:10Dawn Fall came out in a statement saying
- 7:14that CrossFit was up for sale,
- 7:16that they had hired a company to assist
- 7:19in the sale.
- 7:20So it's not a rumor.
- 7:22That was actually said by the CEO of
- 7:26CrossFit.
- 7:33If it doesn't sell right now,
- 7:34it's going to get really interesting on
- 7:36athletes and camps mayhem decisions.
- 7:39I actually thought about that this morning
- 7:40as well, Ken, like, you know,
- 7:42Rich has made these statements that if it
- 7:44doesn't sell to the right person with the
- 7:45right,
- 7:46giving the right people a seat at the
- 7:48table, you know,
- 7:49He was going to be out.
- 7:51What if it doesn't sell?
- 7:53He was posed with the question,
- 7:56what if Dave is put in the CEO
- 7:58position?
- 7:59And he said that they were still going
- 8:00to be out.
- 8:01So what happens now if they don't sell
- 8:04and everything remains the same?
- 8:10So I don't know.
- 8:14Bruce Wayne, I don't believe that.
- 8:16What part don't you believe?
- 8:24Yeah, so if nothing at all changes, Ken,
- 8:29I'm betting that Mayhem still makes the
- 8:31decision to not stay.
- 8:46So it'll be interesting.
- 8:47But maybe if they don't sell,
- 8:49maybe they do give someone from Mayhem's
- 8:52camp a seat at the table.
- 8:54Maybe they give someone from Proven's camp
- 8:57a seat at the table.
- 8:59Who knows?
- 9:04These camps and athletes making decisions
- 9:06based on sell or no sell.
- 9:10If you don't believe that,
- 9:12let me pose this to you.
- 9:14What about CrossFit right now and the way
- 9:19it's designed makes you as a camp or
- 9:23an affiliate want to stay?
- 9:30If it's anything other than loyalty,
- 9:33I don't know what it would be.
- 9:39Now, things have picked up.
- 9:41Marketing has gotten better.
- 9:43They're making a push to push people into
- 9:45the affiliates.
- 9:47That has changed,
- 9:47but that's only been like in four months.
- 9:50Like,
- 9:51that's going to have to go out a
- 9:52little bit longer for me to buy in
- 9:55if I'm an affiliate owner that you're
- 9:57going to continue on with this path.
- 10:00You're going to have to prove to me,
- 10:02after years of us banging on the drum
- 10:05since the media team was released and
- 10:07there hasn't been media released about
- 10:09going to the affiliates,
- 10:11that leaves the only thing left for the
- 10:14affiliate is a sense of loyalty to
- 10:18CrossFit HQ.
- 10:26So I think that...
- 10:28And on the athlete camp side,
- 10:30they can still compete in CrossFit and not
- 10:32be...
- 10:35And even Rich said they would probably
- 10:37remain an affiliate kind of secretly,
- 10:40take down CrossFit from all the signage,
- 10:43but remain an affiliate so that their
- 10:46athletes could do the workouts at the gym.
- 10:52But when you have someone like Mayhem that
- 10:54has so much media out there
- 10:58it's a huge mistake to lose them as
- 11:01an, as a recognized CrossFit affiliate.
- 11:08I agree, Larry.
- 11:08It's only been loyalty for a long time.
- 11:12I don't think CrossFit CrossFit HQ has
- 11:14provided the affiliates much in the last
- 11:18few years, probably the last seven years.
- 11:23Um,
- 11:24and because of that it is just loyalty
- 11:28to what that methodology is that has
- 11:32affiliates still there for sure so yeah i
- 11:43don't know it's going to be interesting to
- 11:45see what happens um i had high hopes
- 11:48for the sale i was hoping that maybe
- 11:50it would go back to an independently owned
- 11:53company where it would get back to kind
- 11:56of its grassroots beginnings because I
- 12:00think that is how it works the best.
- 12:10Gym members, not just affiliates,
- 12:11have loyalty too.
- 12:12I agree.
- 12:14I agree.
- 12:17But gym members have a loyalty to their
- 12:19gym.
- 12:20Most people in the gym setting do not
- 12:23know what's going on at CrossFit HQ.
- 12:26I've been the member of two different
- 12:27gyms.
- 12:28I would say more than fifty percent of
- 12:30the members have no clue what's going on
- 12:32at HQ or the sport or any of
- 12:35that stuff.
- 12:36And they have a loyalty to that that
- 12:39box community and its coach.
- 12:42Yeah.
- 12:45And I do think that that does mean
- 12:46something.
- 12:48Ken puts the number at ninety percent.
- 12:51One of my gyms was owned by Christy
- 12:53Aramo O'Connell.
- 12:54So I would say that one was at
- 12:56fifty percent only because there are
- 12:59pictures on the wall of her at the
- 13:00games.
- 13:04And it just because your owner is a
- 13:07CrossFit athlete,
- 13:08it made things different.
- 13:12their loyalty is to that gym not to
- 13:14some entity in santa cruz california or
- 13:18denver colorado or whatever it is uh larry
- 13:29young i think he's saying if it was
- 13:31reasonable to affiliate his garage he
- 13:33would do it like the old days um
- 13:36i think that
- 13:39know that's been talked about on days we
- 13:41can review a lot about making a a
- 13:44garage affiliation price point that was
- 13:48more affordable and i and i hope they
- 13:50do it because i do think that that
- 13:53a lot of people will affiliate their
- 13:55garage for sure arlene smith i agree with
- 14:03you scott no one has a clue
- 14:05Right.
- 14:06It's just us geeks that listen to podcasts
- 14:08all day and do podcasts that follow all
- 14:12this stuff and talk about it nonstop.
- 14:15And we are really a subset of a
- 14:19small group of people.
- 14:22So.
- 14:24With that being said,
- 14:26let's move on to some other stuff.
- 14:28It's Friday.
- 14:30I am ready to detox for at least
- 14:31twenty four hours from all the CrossFit
- 14:33stuff, but we're going to wrap it up.
- 14:35What happened this week?
- 14:37And then we'll move on and we'll start
- 14:39fresh with a new week next week.
- 14:42Um, I wanted to thank Chris Beasterfield.
- 14:45I was on his podcast yesterday.
- 14:47I had a great time.
- 14:48So easy to talk to, uh,
- 14:50so much fun to just sit back and
- 14:52chat with him and not have to come
- 14:54up with an agenda and, um,
- 14:58and just let him run the show.
- 15:00It was really cool to just kind of
- 15:02sit back and relax and just talk about
- 15:04life and remember how it all began and
- 15:08kind of things like that.
- 15:09So I want to thank Chris Beesterfield for
- 15:11that.
- 15:12I can, we have had Tia, Matt,
- 15:16Dan Bailey,
- 15:17and a loud and live crew workout at
- 15:19our box.
- 15:19When granite games were in Minneapolis and
- 15:22most members were like, who are they?
- 15:25Then the few groupies like me grab
- 15:27pictures.
- 15:29Yeah.
- 15:35So, yeah,
- 15:35thank you to Chris Beesterfield for all
- 15:37that.
- 15:38If you want to have really just fun,
- 15:43fifteen minutes and you just need a break
- 15:45from your day.
- 15:47You need to go watch the first fifteen
- 15:49minutes of the Glenton Things podcast with
- 15:54Ali Shiver.
- 15:57I could not stop laughing for fifteen
- 16:00minutes it is her telling the story of
- 16:05her husband getting scammed and I could
- 16:08not could not stop laughing if you need
- 16:11a break from your day fifteen minutes it's
- 16:14all it takes first fifteen minutes of
- 16:16glint and things with Allie Shiver and you
- 16:19need to laugh go do that I highly
- 16:23recommend it
- 16:24probably the best fifteen minutes of my
- 16:26day yesterday just so so funny so funny
- 16:35I also watched the Liz Wishart video
- 16:38yesterday that that Hiller put out I love
- 16:43those stories where people have to work
- 16:47for a living and chase a dream
- 16:50And there are so many idiosyncrasies with
- 16:54Liz and how she does things.
- 16:57They have a ton of footage of her
- 16:59and her boyfriend.
- 17:01She built a van herself just using YouTube
- 17:05to be a camper van, wired it up,
- 17:08did all the work herself.
- 17:11Um,
- 17:12And I loved how they brought in this
- 17:15like really hard test that Indiana
- 17:18provides for their firefighters and how
- 17:21very few people make it through this week
- 17:25long test.
- 17:26And then you're considered a smoke diver
- 17:28if you get through it.
- 17:30and um and liz was the first female
- 17:35to complete that test and he intertwines
- 17:39that and footage from um some people
- 17:43talking about that test all the way
- 17:46through the video it's awesome awesome so
- 17:52uh
- 17:54was just i love storytelling um i was
- 17:58talking to chris about this not on the
- 18:01podcast but kind of when we're off the
- 18:02air is you know what i love about
- 18:05this and what we do is the storytelling
- 18:08aspect of it and i just love hearing
- 18:11people's stories and and hearing where
- 18:14they came from why they do what they
- 18:16do just
- 18:19that's really what makes my day and uh
- 18:22and i thought hillary did a great job
- 18:23of storytelling in that video yesterday
- 18:31yeah jody i'm i'm with you uh the
- 18:33people that have to work all like a
- 18:35forty hour week or firefighting or police
- 18:39officer and then chase their dream to the
- 18:41crossfit games is uh it's it's really
- 18:45inspiring
- 18:48It's one thing to see someone work out,
- 18:51you know,
- 18:51forty hours a week and that's their job.
- 18:55But then to see someone actually being a
- 18:57firefighter
- 19:00And she talked about how she did this
- 19:02smoke diver test and it went from like
- 19:05Sunday or I think Sunday to Friday.
- 19:09And then did the, Oh,
- 19:12the quarterfinals that year.
- 19:15And because that she was so exhausted and
- 19:18she only finished seven seventieth and
- 19:20didn't get to go on to semis,
- 19:23but that is super impressive that she was
- 19:25even able to do it.
- 19:27It's crazy.
- 19:35That's the main difference between a
- 19:36professional and an amateur.
- 19:38The latter still needs another job.
- 19:42I know everybody's obsessed with this
- 19:43definition of professional.
- 19:45I don't care.
- 19:47Anybody who wants to call themselves a
- 19:48professional and they get even a dollar
- 19:50for what they do,
- 19:52call yourself a professional.
- 19:53It's no skin off my back.
- 19:58Um,
- 20:01i know it's been debated on other shows
- 20:03like what is a professional are
- 20:04crossfitters a professional i just don't i
- 20:07just don't care i don't care call yourself
- 20:11whatever you want to call yourself i love
- 20:14watching the sport it's what i you know
- 20:18whatever it is it is um
- 20:24also did the smoke diver because people
- 20:25said she couldn't do it there's a lot
- 20:27of people like that i i love people
- 20:30like that tell me i can't and hold
- 20:32my beer power five college athletes go
- 20:42through this all the time i agree corey
- 20:51You're oversimplifying what I said.
- 20:54I said,
- 20:54call yourself whatever you want to call
- 20:56yourself.
- 20:57If you won fifty bucks and you think
- 20:59you're a pro now, call yourself a pro.
- 21:01And it's no skin off my back.
- 21:03It doesn't change how my day goes.
- 21:08That's all I'm saying.
- 21:09I don't care.
- 21:11I don't care.
- 21:16Now,
- 21:16if you think that you shouldn't call
- 21:18yourself that,
- 21:18I don't care about that either.
- 21:21Just call yourself the Cajun cowboy.
- 21:23Don't care.
- 21:29That's all.
- 21:33So,
- 21:35that kind of brings me to one of
- 21:36the other things I wanted to talk about.
- 21:38And I wanted to talk about it yesterday,
- 21:40but...
- 21:41when I talk with Corey,
- 21:42I get a little heated sometimes and I
- 21:44forget some of the details I wanted to
- 21:46talk about.
- 21:47And it goes back to the Pat Vellner
- 21:48thing with coffee pods and wads.
- 21:51And it is like,
- 21:59he said something about people bashing the
- 22:02athletes for going after the money.
- 22:06And
- 22:08What I hated about that was nobody ever
- 22:11said anything about the athletes going
- 22:13after the money and how they shouldn't.
- 22:16In fact,
- 22:16I think everybody that I have listened to
- 22:18said,
- 22:19if I'm offered that money to go do
- 22:21what I love, I'm taking the money.
- 22:24If someone came to me,
- 22:25a startup came to me and said, hey,
- 22:27we're starting a podcast channel and we
- 22:29are going to offer you thirty thousand
- 22:31dollars to come.
- 22:33Hell, see you later.
- 22:35I'm going to take the thirty grand and
- 22:37we'll try to figure this out.
- 22:43So I don't I don't have any any
- 22:46problems with them taking the money,
- 22:50even if it was done in a way
- 22:52that offered exclusivity.
- 22:54It'd be a very tough thing to turn
- 22:57down guaranteed money.
- 23:00Unless you're the best of the best and
- 23:02you know you're Tia and you know that
- 23:04you can win three hundred grand at the
- 23:06CrossFit Games.
- 23:08Having guaranteed money is a very big
- 23:11incentive for any anybody,
- 23:12no matter what they do,
- 23:14whether they're a machinist,
- 23:16a podcaster or an athlete.
- 23:19When you're offered many times in life,
- 23:22people are offered more money to leave the
- 23:25one company and go to another company and
- 23:27they do it all day long.
- 23:32What's the difference between that and an
- 23:34athlete being offered money,
- 23:36more money than they've made ever before,
- 23:38and they decide to go do that?
- 23:40Now, is it sustainable?
- 23:42I don't know.
- 23:43But it may be worth the shot if
- 23:45you're getting guaranteed money.
- 23:51So... David Reed, Xevan said it best.
- 23:58The community is...
- 24:01community is talking about the situation
- 24:02and pat is in another room yelling about
- 24:04something else i just don't like i know
- 24:09i never i never dogged an athlete for
- 24:11going for the money because i would do
- 24:13the same thing if i was offered that
- 24:17money to do what i love i would
- 24:19take the money in a heartbeat
- 24:22I have worked at companies where another
- 24:24company has come in and offered me more
- 24:26money, and I've had to make that decision.
- 24:28Is it worth me going for the more
- 24:30money to do this over here or to
- 24:32stay here?
- 24:33It happens all day long for many people
- 24:36in this country.
- 24:39And I would never,
- 24:40ever criticize someone for going after a
- 24:44better way to support their family.
- 24:47Ever.
- 24:50So...
- 24:53again exactly trent olive show me the
- 25:03money uh aster serve you sure didn't but
- 25:08the whole savan sphere was going apeshit
- 25:11for the last eight months i i think
- 25:14that i listened to a lot of the
- 25:17savan sphere that you call
- 25:20I think there have been criticisms about
- 25:22how the WFP has gone about business,
- 25:25but I personally have not heard anybody
- 25:28criticize an athlete for taking the money.
- 25:34So I will defend them on that front
- 25:36for sure.
- 25:38And I have been critical about how the
- 25:40WFP have conducted business in ways.
- 25:43I try to always offer constructive
- 25:45criticism and offer a solution as to what
- 25:48I think the other side should be.
- 25:55And so I've never,
- 25:56ever heard them criticize the athletes for
- 25:59taking the money.
- 26:13Ask to serve, slander, libel,
- 26:15name-calling, the whole menu, up and down.
- 26:24I'm sorry,
- 26:25I cannot get on board with your comments
- 26:27here.
- 26:28I try to give everybody a voice,
- 26:30but I've never heard them go after the
- 26:33athletes just generally for going after
- 26:37money.
- 26:39the WFP for making promises they haven't
- 26:43kept or making statements that we have
- 26:46found out later not to be true.
- 26:51I think those have been said.
- 26:59So
- 27:10All right.
- 27:11Um, so anyway, I, uh,
- 27:17I just wanted to address that.
- 27:18I'm trying to just clean up the week.
- 27:21Um, I'm really, really dying for, um,
- 27:30for some action on the floor, man.
- 27:32I'm, I'm dying for crash to get here.
- 27:35Um,
- 27:37I saw they've added Chris Ibarra to the
- 27:40lineup.
- 27:40I'm just – I'm jonesing for some fitness
- 27:44to watch.
- 27:46And so I'm really,
- 27:48really excited for that to come.
- 27:51I can't wait until that comes and we
- 27:54get to watch some actual sports action
- 28:00with this.
- 28:02So the only thing that I am reluctant
- 28:05about the crash crucible is, um,
- 28:11is the Peace Corps comments.
- 28:15I hate talking Peace Corps.
- 28:18I'm not a big fan of Peace Corps,
- 28:20but I know that once Crash kicks off,
- 28:23that's going to be half of the discussion
- 28:25with Crash,
- 28:27but I guess I'll have to endure that
- 28:30to be able to watch some really cool
- 28:31programmed events done by some really fit
- 28:35people, and I'm super excited for that.
- 28:43Andrew Sten, MFC next weekend.
- 28:45That really crept up on me, dude.
- 28:48I did not realize it was coming next
- 28:50weekend.
- 28:51Do you know that they are,
- 28:53if they are streaming that at all?
- 28:57I know they have sort of in the
- 28:59past.
- 29:00Do you know if they're streaming it this
- 29:02week, this year at all?
- 29:04Or am I going to have to drive
- 29:05up there this weekend,
- 29:07next weekend and check some of it out?
- 29:15nice thing about msc it's only about two
- 29:18hour two and a half hours from my
- 29:20house so i could get there in a
- 29:22drive and back uh yes there will be
- 29:25a stream what uh eight events nine scores
- 29:32dang also tfx qualifier this morning was
- 29:38rough can i just say something
- 29:44I love I TFX is a really cool
- 29:45event.
- 29:48The old school TFX outside of Austin,
- 29:53like way outside of Austin,
- 29:55which I learned when I drove down there
- 29:56or got down there.
- 29:59Can we stop numbering the qualifiers and
- 30:02the event numbers that is reserved for the
- 30:06open and the CrossFit season?
- 30:09Everybody else that's doing it just
- 30:10confuses the numbers in my head.
- 30:14I'm a simple man.
- 30:17I don't know if I can't,
- 30:18I can't handle it all, but, but damn,
- 30:21like.
- 30:23Twenty four point three or twenty two
- 30:25point three.
- 30:26Those are reserved for like the CrossFit
- 30:28game season,
- 30:29which is is how I understand it.
- 30:33And now, like everybody else is adopting.
- 30:36I know legends.
- 30:38For the CrossFit Games Masters group,
- 30:42name things point whatever.
- 30:45Twenty-five point one through eight or
- 30:47whatever the events were for the games.
- 30:49Can't handle it.
- 30:51That's got to be reserved for the open
- 30:54season because I just can't handle it with
- 30:57other stuff.
- 31:03Tristan,
- 31:04nobody is creative enough to name the
- 31:05workouts.
- 31:06Yes.
- 31:18Train Olive, I agree.
- 31:19Thank you.
- 31:21Good gravy.
- 31:26Ken Walters,
- 31:27they adjusted one thing with P score this
- 31:29year at crash,
- 31:30not taking it to negative scores,
- 31:32just to zero.
- 31:33I understood Tyler on spin last week.
- 31:36So they did that two years ago.
- 31:40with the scoring they did not go to
- 31:41negative then last year they capped the
- 31:44negative and this year they're not doing
- 31:47the negative at all okay so again those
- 31:51are things that if you this has been
- 31:54my complaint about the wfp whenever you
- 31:57complicate things like this for people who
- 31:59don't watch sports or don't do statistics
- 32:02it just gets over complicated and they
- 32:04shut down when you're
- 32:08When you're doing P scoring,
- 32:10the explanation has to be simplified so
- 32:13people understand.
- 32:16And talking about negative points and
- 32:18talking about all of those variables makes
- 32:21it so cloudy.
- 32:25I worked as a statistician for four years
- 32:27in the state of Florida.
- 32:29And when Tyler gets into the weeds,
- 32:32like I'm kind of glazing over.
- 32:43Yeah, I don't think they,
- 32:44they don't need to name the qualifiers,
- 32:47Corey.
- 32:48Just name it like Qualifier One,
- 32:51Qualifier Two, Wadapalooza Qualifier One,
- 32:56TFX Qualifier Three.
- 33:04So,
- 33:07and Tristan volunteers to write a name for
- 33:09every qualifier because he does that for
- 33:12all of his programming.
- 33:23Lito, to be fair,
- 33:24they were quite fast last year with
- 33:26announcing the scores,
- 33:27and I don't feel like P score is
- 33:29that complicated if they explain it
- 33:30simply.
- 33:36I don't disagree with you.
- 33:37They were quick with the scoring,
- 33:39but on the shows after when we talked
- 33:41about it,
- 33:42there were a lot of questions as to
- 33:45why this or why that.
- 33:47Yeah.
- 33:56So I don't know.
- 34:04Frida isn't P score for the specialists.
- 34:06That would be the opposite of CrossFit.
- 34:09So like here now,
- 34:10this is the stuff we have to explain.
- 34:12So P score,
- 34:13if you're a specialist will favor your
- 34:15score for an event.
- 34:18So the best example is someone like Danny
- 34:21Spiegel.
- 34:22If there's a heavy lift,
- 34:23she's going to get mega points and a
- 34:25big difference between first and second
- 34:29because her lift is much greater than
- 34:33somebody else's.
- 34:34Or look at Guy.
- 34:36Guy can clean whatever it is.
- 34:40I don't know, four hundred, whatever.
- 34:43And the next person is at three fifty.
- 34:46He gets a big gap.
- 34:47But then you put a run in and
- 34:49it flips the table the exact opposite.
- 34:52So when you flip the exact opposite,
- 34:55then someone that's really good at running
- 34:57is going to get that big score.
- 35:00And Danny and Guy are going to get
- 35:02negative points or cap at zero,
- 35:05whatever they decide to do.
- 35:07And so they lose all that advantage they
- 35:09got on the one event by being really
- 35:11terrible at the next event.
- 35:14So it doesn't really favor the specialist.
- 35:18It only favors them in one event.
- 35:22It's really best for that overall fit
- 35:25athlete to kind of keep everything above
- 35:29the median or the mid-range score.
- 35:36You want to be... Because it takes the...
- 35:41It takes the middle score,
- 35:44and then everything above it gets
- 35:46positive.
- 35:48The best way to look at it,
- 35:49everything above it gets positive,
- 35:50everything gets negative,
- 35:51but it's not that way.
- 35:52Just the ones below that get really bad
- 35:55scores,
- 35:55and the ones above it get really good
- 35:57scores.
- 36:07And Jody Lynn,
- 36:08all I hear is Peace Corps.
- 36:11Yeah.
- 36:11Yeah.
- 36:12can you imagine being a baseball announcer
- 36:14or a sportscaster this morning and having
- 36:17to say the last name Schlittler,
- 36:19Schittler,
- 36:20Schlittler over and over again and not
- 36:23screw that up on, on FCC run TV,
- 36:28cam Schlittler all morning.
- 36:32I thought that was something different.
- 36:39Uh,
- 36:46I get that,
- 36:47but all we need to know is if
- 36:48you beat the field by a lot,
- 36:49you get a lot more points, period.
- 36:51We don't need the specific math.
- 36:54I know,
- 36:54but people want to dive into it,
- 36:55and then we as podcast people have to
- 37:01talk about it.
- 37:03I'm not saying it's a bad thing.
- 37:06I need to see it in a bigger
- 37:08field.
- 37:10really hard to judge at just one event
- 37:13a year to see how it really plays
- 37:16out um
- 37:37And the Kmart,
- 37:38I just shipped my pants commercial.
- 37:40Yep.
- 37:40Yeah.
- 37:44Corey brought up Cam Scatabo.
- 37:47Scataboo.
- 37:47Yeah,
- 37:50there's a lot of fun names out there.
- 37:52But Schlittler's a tough one.
- 37:55It's a tough one.
- 38:04All right.
- 38:06Going to see the new baby this weekend.
- 38:09Going over Sunday to see my nephew and
- 38:13the new baby, Olive,
- 38:16who was born last week.
- 38:18Super excited about that.
- 38:21What else are we going to talk about?
- 38:27I did watch a little bit of the
- 38:29girls last night.
- 38:30I actually watched the whole thing.
- 38:32They were talking about going to High
- 38:33Rocks Boston and that how many people were
- 38:37there and that they'd never seen that in
- 38:40a CrossFit event.
- 38:42And I was like, well, duh.
- 38:46You have people coming in doing one event
- 38:48that takes like, you know, like, you know,
- 38:48like, you know, like, you know, like,
- 38:49you know, like, you know, like, you know,
- 38:50like, you know, like, you know, like,
- 38:51you know, like,
- 38:51and so you can kind of move them
- 38:52through the process of that pretty
- 38:55quickly.
- 38:57And... And then...
- 39:01A CrossFit event,
- 39:02you have people coming in for whatever you
- 39:05scheduled that event for, one, two,
- 39:07three days,
- 39:08and they're doing multiple events
- 39:10You don't have the space or the time
- 39:13for like a ton of athletes like that.
- 39:16And so I just found that like weird.
- 39:21Like we have a five miler that goes
- 39:23around the Ohio State.
- 39:25It starts at the stadium,
- 39:27ends on the field at the stadium,
- 39:30and they get like fifteen thousand people
- 39:33through that.
- 39:34It's because it's one event.
- 39:37One thing that happens,
- 39:38you just kind of cycle people through it.
- 39:41Where CrossFit, it's very, very different.
- 39:44It's a different style.
- 39:49So I didn't understand what they were
- 39:51comparing it to.
- 39:52It didn't make any damn sense to me
- 39:54at all.
- 40:02Dense Jenny says they gas up anything that
- 40:05isn't CrossFit game season.
- 40:07That's they stick.
- 40:08Yeah, I know.
- 40:11noticed they have been talking crossfit
- 40:13more in the last couple weeks and they
- 40:16they actually talked up crash which was
- 40:20pretty surprising to me the lower bar of
- 40:27entry the more participants you get
- 40:29exactly
- 40:37Shanna,
- 40:38High Rocks is a well-oiled machine,
- 40:40turning five thousand athletes through a
- 40:41weekend.
- 40:42Nice moneymaker, to be honest.
- 40:43It is.
- 40:44And I would say the same about any
- 40:45five K five miler.
- 40:49Even like the Columbus Marathon,
- 40:51thousands and thousands of people through
- 40:53that.
- 40:54But it's just an easier format to do
- 40:56that with.
- 41:00So.
- 41:10right um they also say said kyra isn't
- 41:15good at rope climbs so they definitely
- 41:16have no clue what they're saying just
- 41:19talking to talk yeah uh ken walters people
- 41:27committed three to five straight weeks uh
- 41:30hundreds of thousands uh the numbers were
- 41:33hundreds of thousands is more impressive
- 41:37Yeah, but that's multiple locations.
- 41:38We got to be fair about the assessment
- 41:40of everything.
- 41:43Where High Rocks is one event,
- 41:47one location,
- 41:48and they're turning people through.
- 41:52I'm not hating on...
- 41:53I don't hate on High Rocks.
- 41:55I don't think their reps are always good.
- 41:57But the people that do it well...
- 42:02It is what it is.
- 42:03It's not ever going to be something for
- 42:05me.
- 42:06I don't want to go run that much.
- 42:09But it's interesting.
- 42:10I don't know what its sustainability is,
- 42:13doing the same workout over and over and
- 42:15over again.
- 42:18But more power to them.
- 42:22Crank the people through.
- 42:24It's a fun event to go to,
- 42:25I'm sure, for people.
- 42:29But just like I wouldn't do a marathon,
- 42:31and there are thousands of people that do
- 42:33that,
- 42:33doesn't mean I hate on marathons being
- 42:35run.
- 42:36It's not something I want to do
- 42:38personally.
- 42:41That's all.
- 42:48Let's be fair, Trent Olive.
- 42:51She says it's because they don't see they
- 42:53have to do full reps at High Rocks.
- 42:55There are people at High Rocks that do
- 42:57do full reps.
- 43:00You can find people that don't do full
- 43:01reps.
- 43:02Just like I would argue,
- 43:05you could go into any CrossFit gym.
- 43:07Well, not any.
- 43:09You could go into some CrossFit gyms
- 43:10around this country and see some really
- 43:13piss-poor reps.
- 43:16So...
- 43:25Um, I agree.
- 43:26Jenny high rocks is a CrossFit workout.
- 43:29It is just not the one that I
- 43:31want to do.
- 43:45Uh, high rocks is like Ironman.
- 43:47You train for the exact same rate,
- 43:49the same exact race over and over.
- 43:50It's not taking over the CrossFit space.
- 43:52Never.
- 43:54Yeah.
- 43:57Tristan Patrick,
- 43:58there's no gym where every person moves to
- 43:59the standard,
- 44:01even if you harp on them constantly.
- 44:03I would agree.
- 44:17Sean in Oregon,
- 44:18I did Karen today and fifteen reps in
- 44:21the wall ball hit my face.
- 44:22So that's how my day started.
- 44:24I hate that.
- 44:26I hate that.
- 44:28there's nothing worse than missing the
- 44:31catch and,
- 44:33and that hitting you in the face.
- 44:34We, when I first started,
- 44:36we only had X number of the soft
- 44:39medicine balls.
- 44:40And then we had some really hard,
- 44:42I don't even know what they were,
- 44:45but like occasionally you get stuck with
- 44:47it and it,
- 44:48it didn't like give at all.
- 44:51And man,
- 44:52one time I missed and it just bopped
- 44:54me right in the nose, blood everywhere.
- 44:57Oh man.
- 45:00it was horrible horrible uh jenny tristan
- 45:08is correct we harp hard at our gym
- 45:10and fools still get it wrong
- 45:15Both gyms I've been a part of were
- 45:18very,
- 45:18very much standard holders of everyone.
- 45:24And you can yell at them all you
- 45:25want and still some of them are not
- 45:27going to hit depth.
- 45:28Some of them are still not going to
- 45:30hit the front of the wall ball target
- 45:32and so on and so forth.
- 45:34So, but, and that's,
- 45:41it is what it is.
- 45:49um uh-huh is a conversation about high
- 45:51rocks hamburg that is about to start elite
- 45:54men are at the start line eight k
- 45:57watching just popped in uh no it was
- 45:59not about that but thank you for the
- 46:01update um i know there is some high
- 46:03rocks going on this was about um some
- 46:06comments made about high rocks boston
- 46:16If they can't hit depth,
- 46:18we aren't encouraging them to do a comp
- 46:19or high rocks.
- 46:21Amen.
- 46:22It's the whole MCI, right?
- 46:24Mechanics first, consistency second,
- 46:27then intensity.
- 46:29If you can't get either the M or
- 46:31the C, you shouldn't be doing the I.
- 46:33And the I means comps.
- 46:36So, I mean,
- 46:38that's basic L-one stuff right there.
- 46:48So yeah, I'm in agreement with,
- 46:50with all of that.
- 46:53I don't know what anybody else's plans are
- 46:55this weekend.
- 46:56None of my teams.
- 46:57I mean, Penn State plays tomorrow at UCLA.
- 47:02Probably watch a little bit of that.
- 47:05But my Bears are off this weekend.
- 47:07My wife's Steelers are off this weekend.
- 47:09So we're going to go see the baby.
- 47:11And then I'm going to watch Superman.
- 47:13Finally,
- 47:13I've been dying to see that movie.
- 47:16And I just watched an interview with
- 47:17Charlie Sheen.
- 47:19And now I'm really interested to see his
- 47:21documentary on Netflix.
- 47:23So I think I'm going to check that
- 47:26out.
- 47:28It was,
- 47:29Charlie Sheen was a big part of my,
- 47:32my childhood, I guess.
- 47:34And to see him in this interview be
- 47:37pretty healthy was really refreshing to
- 47:41see because he,
- 47:44Watching the dumpster fire happen in his
- 47:47life over my life was really tough to
- 47:50see.
- 47:51And so I'm anxious to see where he
- 47:56is today.
- 47:58and uh and i'm excited to see that
- 48:00he was on rich eisen this week and
- 48:03he was funny again he was telling stories
- 48:07um he was telling stories about rob lowe
- 48:09uh because they kind of grew up together
- 48:12um and that whole brat pack group uh
- 48:15i'm really really really excited and now i
- 48:18really want to dive into that for sure
- 48:21But I'm going to watch Superman.
- 48:22And then I saw The Naked Gun came
- 48:24out on Peacock or Paramount, one of those.
- 48:28And I loved Airplane.
- 48:30Airplane was one of my favorite movies of
- 48:32all time.
- 48:34Naked Guns I liked but didn't love like
- 48:38Airplane.
- 48:38But I want to see how either A,
- 48:41they pay homage to all those types of
- 48:43movies or B,
- 48:45the dumpster fire that they have made it
- 48:47after all these years.
- 48:49with Liam Neeson playing the buffoon for a
- 48:53change.
- 48:53So I'm interested in seeing that.
- 48:57So we'll go ahead and see what's going
- 48:59on this week.
- 49:04Two and a half men is a mirror
- 49:05of his real life.
- 49:06It's crazy.
- 49:07Okay.
- 49:10Joseph Ramirez,
- 49:11Charlie Sheen lets a lot out of the
- 49:13bag.
- 49:14That's going to be crazy.
- 49:17He talked about on this interview,
- 49:19he used to collect baseballs.
- 49:20And I think he tried to get either
- 49:25McGuire's home run ball or Sosa's home run
- 49:27ball back when I was younger.
- 49:31And he talked about he went to a
- 49:33game with Cecil Fielder.
- 49:35He wanted a Cecil Fielder home run ball,
- 49:38and he bought out the right field seats,
- 49:42like all of them.
- 49:44So that if there was a home run
- 49:45hit into right field,
- 49:47he would have the whole right field seats
- 49:50to get that ball.
- 49:52And Cecil Fielder went over for that
- 49:54night.
- 49:57Crazy.
- 50:01What do you think about that?
- 50:02Ken Walters?
- 50:03Is that worth the investment?
- 50:07He said he paid,
- 50:07I think it was like eight grand,
- 50:10eight grand for the entire right field
- 50:12seats.
- 50:17He said if he tried to do that
- 50:18today for like Shohei Otani or something,
- 50:23it'd be like twenty five, thirty grand.
- 50:28That was in the interview we did with
- 50:30Rich Eisen.
- 50:30Ken,
- 50:31I don't know if it's in the documentary.
- 50:32I have not even started the documentary
- 50:34yet.
- 50:38But one,
- 50:39to have that much money that you want
- 50:41to just catch a home run ball.
- 50:43And so you just buy out the bleachers.
- 50:46I can't even imagine having that kind of
- 50:48money to,
- 50:49to even follow through with that.
- 50:52And then the reasoning behind it,
- 50:53like what the man.
- 50:56So anyway,
- 50:57all of those stories have led me to
- 50:59want to see his documentary, um,
- 51:01on Netflix.
- 51:02And I guess the second episode's out now.
- 51:04So hopefully I can binge through those
- 51:06two.
- 51:07Um,
- 51:13Not for a fielder home run ball,
- 51:15but definitely a Sosa home run ball.
- 51:17It would be.
- 51:26If he tried to do that at the
- 51:27Nat Stadium,
- 51:28he could buy out the entire stadium for
- 51:30five hundred bucks.
- 51:31They suck.
- 51:31Yeah.
- 51:32Yeah.
- 51:37Anyway.
- 51:38Well, on that note,
- 51:40we're going to go ahead and leave with
- 51:41that.
- 51:42Uh,
- 51:43I am going to change up some things
- 51:44with the show.
- 51:46Occasionally I'm going to bring somebody
- 51:47on, uh,
- 51:49from the CrossFit world to have lunch with
- 51:51me and just hang out.
- 51:53It's not going to be an interview.
- 51:54It's just going to be an, uh,
- 51:55like a hangout talk about the stuff around
- 51:57the space.
- 51:58That's my vision for that.
- 52:01Um,
- 52:04So again,
- 52:05we're going to start with Josh Hicks on
- 52:07Tuesday,
- 52:08who has been the lead medical person for
- 52:11CrossFit for many, many years.
- 52:14he was also hired by WFP.
- 52:16He actually works for both right now.
- 52:20And he's putting together a detailed
- 52:22safety plans for people and different
- 52:24competitions around the world.
- 52:27And he's also trying to train other people
- 52:30to do what he does so that there,
- 52:34there are other people that can do what
- 52:36he's been doing over the past few years
- 52:38with that.
- 52:40check that out on Tuesday,
- 52:42but until then we have Sunday night,
- 52:44CrossFit talk, Carolyn, Jamie,
