Transcript
- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the ASPY world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism Ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19Are you autistic? In this video I'm discussing how
- 0:22you can tell someone that you think you may be autistic.
- 0:25This is very important. All that's coming up.
- 0:28Hey guys, welcome back to the as we will.

- 0:32dyslexia and I make quick videos all about this stuff.

- 0:42Guys, what's going on? This is very interesting because
- 0:45I get asked a lot of times like people saying, hey, I think I'm
- 0:48on the autism spectrum or I've done a test online which you can
- 0:51get at the aspyworld.com. You can go and take the test on
- 0:54that. I think I'm autistic.
- 0:55How do I tell this to somebody, Like how do I place my mother or
- 0:57my friend or my spouse or whatever?
- 0:59And one of the things I would say to him is that you know
- 1:01there are ways in which you can basically talk to somebody about
- 1:05it, but we kind of need to clarify what is it that you're
- 1:09kind of seeking A diagnosis for and you have autism, Does it
- 1:13seem that way? So we're going to get into all
- 1:14that right now. But first upward from today's
- 1:16sponsor guys, today's video is sponsored by a Beryllian and
- 1:20brilliant is a non no prescription homeopathic, no
- 1:23nasties, non addictive little kind of medication that you can
- 1:28take for ADHD and autism related traits.
- 1:33Now this is an interesting because it helps, it helps
- 1:35enhance the clarity, improve concentration and attention,
- 1:37reduce feelings of things like impulsivity, restlessness,
- 1:40irritability and impulsivity, which is kind of perfect for
- 1:43ADHD right when it comes in these little tabs and you just
- 1:47pop on out and put it in your tongue and it dissolves.
- 1:49You take like 3 to 4 a day, maybe more depending on what
- 1:53dosage you want to take and after about two or three weeks
- 1:55taking it notice a mega difference.
- 1:57Now a lot of my community know I'm an ambassador for brilliant
- 2:00and I have some really good feedback from saying that.
- 2:01It's absolutely amazing. Now the cool thing about brillia
- 2:04is you can get it for adults and for children.
- 2:06So you can definitely try it out see if it works for you.
- 2:08But I do highly recommend you know checking your doctor first
- 2:10before taking any type of medication, no matter how
- 2:12homeopathic it is. Now if you're interested in
- 2:15trying brillia, I have a 15% off discount code with the link down
- 2:18below using SP15 as a discount code.
- 2:21Pop it in the link down below and you can try it yourself with
- 2:2515% off. Super awesome.
- 2:27I highly recommend it, but it is awesome.
- 2:28Thanks as well from the video guys.
- 2:30Let's get on with it. So the first thing to kind of
- 2:32think about when you're thinking about autism is, you know, am I
- 2:35autistic? Well, why do I come to that
- 2:37conclusion? How about taking the test?
- 2:39Well, you know there are some kind of basic traits of autism
- 2:42that are very characterized The in things that you can see quite
- 2:46clearly in people know one of them is a lack of eye contact or
- 2:49a lack of true eye contact. So autistic people will maybe
- 2:52avert eye contact and look away from looking directly into your
- 2:56eyes while looking past you. So they're kind of just looking
- 2:58past your ear or above your head a little bit.
- 3:01And all of this is, is because looking into somebody's eyes for
- 3:04an autistic person is quite an intense feeling or an emotion,
- 3:07right. And if you're an autistic person
- 3:08watching these, you don't know exactly what I mean.
- 3:09Or if you're potential undiagnosed with self diagnosed
- 3:12autistic then you'll know what I mean.
- 3:14Now, issues with social interaction plentiful in autism.
- 3:18You know, social cues, then the social conventions, small talk,
- 3:22all the good stuff. OK, it's not really good.
- 3:25It's all kind of like really difficult stuff to learn.
- 3:27But those things are triggering and behaviors that are quite
- 3:30difficult for autistic people to kind of inherently just know
- 3:34from growing up in that situation.
- 3:35You know, you have to really understand those things to kind
- 3:39of be good at them. And neurotypical people or
- 3:41normal autistic people will get these things naturally just
- 3:44happen. But autistic people will take
- 3:46extra amount of time to kind of learn these things if it's all
- 3:48because it is quite a difficult thing to understand.
- 3:50So other bits of things like you know rigid, strict, strict
- 3:53routine, obsessive interest like obsessing over something like
- 3:57completely like you know if you like books or something in
- 4:00obsessible books or you just will like the Titanic or Marilyn
- 4:02Monroe or something like that. And the other is a sensory
- 4:04processing disorder. Now sensory processing disorder
- 4:07or SPD comes come orbit meaning to occurring with autism almost
- 4:11100%. As I'm I'm, I'm not really
- 4:13coming across many asistic individuals who don't have some
- 4:16sort of sensory processing issue.
- 4:18Now that being said, OK you have all these things then what do
- 4:22you do you suspect this criteria that you've kind of come up with
- 4:26where do you go from there? Now you can go and do an AQ test
- 4:30online, which is an autism culture test which you can get
- 4:32from the aspyworld.com/autism test.
- 4:35I will leave a link down below for that and then you can see
- 4:37what you score. Now scoring on this test is
- 4:41anywhere between 30, I think it's 30% and 50%.
- 4:46Scoring between 33 and 50 of this point scoring process would
- 4:51say that you're autistic or potentially autistic, but
- 4:54scoring lower than 33. We kind of say that you just
- 4:57have maybe some autistic behavioral traits that you could
- 4:59have picked up all their behavior from social kind of
- 5:02constructs. But it's not a complete accurate
- 5:04test, It's just a first stepping stuzzle.
- 5:05Bear that in mind, guys, when you're thinking about, do them
- 5:07like this. Now, what do you do if you want
- 5:09to tell somebody you're artistic?
- 5:10So you've done all these things you got attached, you got the
- 5:13results, and then you want to speak to somebody.
- 5:14Now this the most simplest, honest, easiest way if you
- 5:18wanted to talk your friends about it.
- 5:19Pick the friend that you have most affinity for.
- 5:22Affinity. A likeness for, you know, a
- 5:24friend that you feel you're right with.
- 5:25Really. Well, speak to them and tell
- 5:27them your concerns. Say, look, I feel like this, I
- 5:29think I might be autistic. What do I do to think?
- 5:30Issue a secret diagnosis, blah blah blah.
- 5:33Now if they are genuine friends, if they care about you and love
- 5:35you, they will be supportive every single way and they won't
- 5:39give you their opinion. They'll just be like, hey okay,
- 5:40yeah, let's let's sort it out, Let's see what you want to do
- 5:42and I'll support you. And the same goes for family
- 5:44members. If you want to tell somebody,
- 5:46somebody in your family, which isn't always easy because other
- 5:48people who know you the best and they may be sometimes in denial
- 5:52that there may be a newer neuro developmental condition going on
- 5:55rather than just you being you. Because they know you want a
- 5:57life to being like that. And I've had this experience as
- 5:59well. And I would just speak to them
- 6:00honestly and say, hey, I think I'm autistic, I want to go for a
- 6:03diagnosis and just be completely honest.
- 6:05When you're honest with people, when you're, when you, when you
- 6:08say it as it is, they can't really go back on it because you
- 6:11can't improve upon the truth. That's that's what it is.
- 6:14And if they are your true family members and friends and the
- 6:16people who love you, they will support you every step of the
- 6:19way. Now there are many different
- 6:20things you can do with the process to actually get
- 6:22diagnosed. And I did a video which I'll
- 6:24link at the end of this video where you can go and watch how
- 6:29you know what are the three kind of pathways to get an awesome
- 6:31diagnosis. And.
- 6:33And some of the ways you can do that.
- 6:34I have some free PDF downloads as well which will be in that
- 6:37video. So definitely check that out.
- 6:38Now in terms of telling other people, if you do have an
- 6:41autistic diagnosis and you're wanting to kind of, you know,
- 6:46your friends don't know yet and you're wanting to tell them,
- 6:48it's like a newly diagnosed thing.
- 6:49Like when I was 26, I was diagnosed.
- 6:50So now my whole life kind of changes a little bit.
- 6:52I go off to tell people different things, right.
- 6:55So I basically was wondering what I should do.
- 6:57And I had a very big rule for this.
- 6:59If you're a close family member or a friend, I will tell you
- 7:01directly off message. You would say, hey, I've just
- 7:03had a diagnosis, this is what is going on with me.
- 7:05This is what, what and who I am and everybody else had a need to
- 7:09know basis. So when I was in work, if
- 7:11something happened and it was causing me issues because of my
- 7:14neurological difference, I speak to my work about it.
- 7:16Or if I got into a discussion and I didn't understand
- 7:18something and people thought I was a bit odd or they thought I
- 7:20would be rude or narcissistic, I'd be like, look, it's not
- 7:23narcissism, it's not reading this.
- 7:24I'm actually unable to the spectrum.
- 7:25Kind of very similar to the 2018 or 2017 Power Rangers movie
- 7:31where Billy the Blue Ranger, he's dragging like something
- 7:35across this kind of like a quarry outlet where they found
- 7:38all the Power Rangers stuff and he says, oh, sorry, I'm on the,
- 7:42I'm on the autism spectrum. And the guy's like, OK, cool.
- 7:44So it's kind of like a need to know basis.
- 7:46And this is super important. When you keep people on a need
- 7:48to know basis, you protect your privacy, you protect your
- 7:51validation and you protect the need for other people to just be
- 7:55spying on you for no reason. You know your diagnosis is
- 7:57personal to you. Now, if you are thinking about
- 7:59having an autism diagnosis, drop me a comment down below.
- 8:02I could probably point in the direction of some other things
- 8:04that may actually help. Now if you're watching this and
- 8:06you are an autistic person and you're wanting to know more
- 8:08about talking to other people, drop your comment.
- 8:11Say I want to stick. What up I'd Let's read your
- 8:13comment. I read every single one.
- 8:14Now I highly recommend you checking out this next video
- 8:17that I recommend in here because this will be kind of like the
- 8:19next step in this journey for you.
