- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans, welcome in to Dove All Daily, presented by GenJag.com, and fueled by Brass Tax Coffee right now.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: We were talking Jaguar's training camp practice number five, stand out from today, five stand out players, and just kind of the vibes from today's practice, kind of takeaways at the end.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: So excited to get into it.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in, supporting the channel.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's all jags all the time, so if you're about that life, please like and subscribe, and also hit that high button, and we're covering Jack's training camp, we're covering the jacks whole season we're covering.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's basically two episodes a day, every day, all year long, outside of maybe some weekends, right?
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: But do really appreciate you.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'll love talking Jack's football with you.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: And five standouts today.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: One of these players really, really stood out during one-on-one's.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Really, a couple of them did.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about offensive line defensive line.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: The pads came on for the first time today, and so there's more physicality once the pad comes on in a big way.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: and several of these guys stood out in one-on-ones but also in the team portion of practice and they did do a mamba period today which they call their periods of best-on-best mamba periods 11-11 and so you saw one versus one's a little bit more today than you normally do.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't abbreviated practice right?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: come out onto the practice field in terms of like the outdoor field for like actual practice until closer to nine.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Practice wrapped up around ten.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a little abbreviated with the first day of pads.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they wanted to push it too hard.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: They've got time to ramp this thing up a little bit and continue moving forward.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: But there was definitely some good work done
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: highlight of the day is a player who has been consistent throughout training camp and has not let the ball hit the ground once.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: And that's Brian Thomas Jr. And on the play he made today outside the numbers down the field.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's posted on their socials.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: You can go check it out, Twitter or whatever.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm only on Twitter, so I don't really know if it's on Instagram or Facebook or whatever, but definitely on Twitter.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: I can tell you that much.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: They put it out there.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: B.T.J.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: one-on-one with Buster Brown and Buster had good coverage.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Very good coverage.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was right on him.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: Right in his grill.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes when you've got a player like Brian Thomas Jr. and a quarterback like Trevor Lawrence, that can put the ball up over the outside shoulder and B.T.J.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: can come down with it with one hand.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: The offense wins.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: offense beats great offense beats great defense usually especially in this league but yeah that was something else really really impressive throw in catch by by Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas Jr and BTJ he's running routes all over the field and you heard it was funny the three players that
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: actually four of the five players that came to mind for me when I was thinking about camp standouts after the practice actually got brought up in the press conference and so Liam Cohen talked about all of them too but Liam's been impressed with BTJ's ability all over the field and the consistency he's playing with and
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's getting open on a lot of the routes he's running, even if he's not targeted.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: Again, hasn't had any troubles at the catch point so far?
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, you could say like, there's one play where maybe he could have caught it through the ground and the defender had a hand in there and stuff like that.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: But no real drops to speak of, no hesitation going over the middle, of course you're not getting hit.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: It is, without question, the most consistent Brian Thomas Jr. has looked through an offseason program, you know, OTAs, many camp training camp since he has been in Jacksonville, his rookie training camp and offseason was very inconsistent.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: Last year's offseason and training camp was, you know,
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: definitely inconsistent, but like more consistently just not great than inconsistent, honestly.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it wasn't good.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: And this year, it's been the opposite of that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's been very good, very consistent.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you're really happy to see that out of BTJ.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: You got to continue that.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he will with his maturity and his level of talent.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: maturity that he's been showing this year, but he's got to continue that when the pads come on against opposing teams.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's really the biggest test, but the confidence is high, he's playing well, and I think that's a very good thing for the Jack Wars.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: Next up is Chris Rodriguez.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about him a little bit, but the pads came on today, and you saw him just running through some tackles, running some guys over.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: He is a big physical runner.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: He plays with good pace and patience and vision in the backfield, meaning when it comes to pace,
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: a guy who knows when to hit the hole, like you don't just get the ball and run full speed, you know when to kind of time things out based on the blocking in front of you, how things are developing.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Some of that's a little bit innate, but some of it is practiced as well.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then the vision to get to the right hole, find the right lane, find the right crease, and then the the toughness
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, poor Caleb Ransal was the recipient of one today, and Caleb Ransal, I mean, throughout his obviously hasn't played in the NFL yet, but Ransal's college career, that was a tough son of a gun and a really good tackler, and so I don't think Caleb Ransal is going to be getting run over a ton, but that's exactly what happened on that play.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: Ants on Harrison, playing right tackle earlier in camp, playing left tackle, the last three
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: I would not be sharing that information if it wasn't talked about in the press conference because they don't really like all that, but I feel like I'm following rules, Liam Cohen's talking about it, so I'm gonna be talking about it here.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Anton Harrison has been playing left tackle and they kind of tried to downplay it and say, they did this last year, they're cross-training guys, all that stuff, and that may be.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Anton Harrison, I think is a star level player.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's showing that in one-on-ones, where he's still made it against Josh Allen twice.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: He absolutely got the better of Danny Striggout, both times they went up against each other.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: And he's not allowing anything in 11.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: And team drills.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, he's doing a good job.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: He has all the talent in the world, physical ability.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think that this coaching staff challenged him last off season to kind of bring it more consistently from a mental and work ethic and all that.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: And he did.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: And he's continuing to take strides.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't care if he's playing left tackle or right tackle, whatever is best for the team.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: But it looks like he's doing a good job at left tackle.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: I know people have been like, a little worried, a little bit scared about the Jaguars off into tackle situation, which if Walker, yeah, if Walker little has to play one of the tackle spots, that is a little worrisome for me.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: But if you have Cole Van Lannon out there and he's healthy and Anton here is an out there and he's healthy, I'm not super concerned, I'm really in hot.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: good stuff from him.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: And Liam Cohen said as much like he's had five good practices.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: They've had five practices.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's got five good ones.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Rook Aurora Rowe, a player who stood out a lot to me both and won on one today and 11 on 11 making plays.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: And Liam Cohen specifically said after practice, he had a good day probably better than some of his other practices.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: I would say he's flashed every single practice.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: He has made plays in the backfield every single practice.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's a guy to me that is on the rise.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: And it shouldn't be a shock.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: He was a second-round pick a couple years ago.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: He is extremely talented from a physical standpoint.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was young when he came into the league.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's still a young player.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: And despite being played somewhat out of position last year in Atlanta,
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's still produced.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the guy had 30 plus pressures, not that many defensive tackles have 30 plus pressures.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that in this role with the Jaguar's defense plan more of like a three-tech, behind-air crumbs dead, maybe getting on the field in clear passing situations with air crumbs dead in the rest of the starting pass rush, that could be a good spot.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: It could be a really good situation for sure.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, Rook, Aurora, Rowe, doing a good job.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then my final guy, Devon Hamilton.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Hamilton, you don't run the ball in his rush lanes.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: If he's in the A gap, I mean, he can do anything you're asking them to do in the wrong game.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he probably not asking them to set the edge, but in the middle of that defense, he can do it in the wrong game.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: And then, in one on one today,
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: There was not a single interior offensive lineman that was holding him from pushing that that lineman back into the quarterback's lap.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: And it wasn't like he was winning with swim moves and things of that nature, but like you're just not going to keep him in front of you one-on-one.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something to keep him up like, maybe Josh Heinz Allen talked about it last week.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: If they can get divine a little bit more one-on-one.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: He could potentially be a more productive Russia than what we've seen recently in his career, pass Russia.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: Great interior defense alignment in terms of the run defense, anchor of the best run defense in football.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: We know these things.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: They could get a little bit more pass Russia out of him.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: That would be awesome.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying they need to.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, I talked about trading for VivaVa, and that certainly would be bad news bears for Devon Hamilton.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still not against trading for VivaVa.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's an absolute star, but Devon's a good player in his own right.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I said that when I talked about trading for Viva2.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like you're taking bad and making it great.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you're going from a really good player if a little bit specific to a star all around player.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: If you ended up doing that,
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: engaging in potential trade discussion regarding V2V.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but Devon Hamilton, having a good training camp, very good practice today, and I'm excited to see what these guys have in store for pads on day two tomorrow.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Tuesday, August 4th, really appreciate y'all be in here.
