- speaker-0: I find it's actually easier for newer believers to help their kids because they know what they don't know. Right. And they're like, we're gonna together we're gonna go through this, we're gonna learn how to pray. And together we're gonna learn how to have a quiet time and we're gonna learn how to look at a piece of scripture. speaker-1: For the parent maybe who is maybe they're a new Christian or maybe they've been a Christian for some time, but they've never really gotten into Bible study, how would you encourage that parent to walk alongside their kids and teach them how to study the Bible? speaker-0: Yeah. So I wouldn't really encourage that parent the same way I would encourage anybody. And that's because of what you just said a second ago. And that is, ⁓ as adults, a lot of times people didn't even tell us how to study the Bible. ⁓ you know, they say things like, ⁓ a good Christian reads the Bible, but there's no there's nothing after that. There's no like, well, let me show you what that means. Let me talk to you about what a quiet time is. Let me tell you like why that's important. You know, like we just don't do that. We don't talk about those things at all. And and I I still see it nowhere, even in today's culture. And I feel like it's so missing that you know, we don't have that time to sit down and talk about that. It is a skill that everyone learns. By the way, so is prayer. Same thing. Like ⁓ it you you don't just know how to pray for to a new Christian, it's like, how do you know this? Well, you don't just know. It takes a lot of practice, it takes a lot of time, it takes like people, you know, you listening to people pray and you know, things like that. I mean, like ⁓ I could pray about that, right? Right. But we forget, you know, a lot of times we we've grown up in the faith, maybe, and you know, we forget that we our kids don't know that. So I find it's actually easier for newer believers to help their kids because they know what they don't know. Right. And they're like, we're gonna together, we're gonna go through this, we're gonna learn how to pray. And together, we're gonna learn how to have a quiet time, and we're gonna learn how to look at a piece of scripture, and we're gonna learn how, you know, to do all of these things. And When you've been in the faith a long time, grew up in church, a lot of times you just think, Wait, like we know these things. Like we don't even we don't even we don't like speaker-1: Just second nature to us. Yeah. Yeah. And what you're talking about really is discipleship. And so we're discipling the hearts of our children. And if we are not at a place where we're where we really know how to disciple their hearts, hopefully there's someone in our lives and in our world, even as adults, who can help disciple us so that we can help disciple them. And we've talked about this so many times, but you know, discipleship is not throwing your kids in Sunday school or to youth group and expecting that children's pastor or the youth pastor to disciple your kids and teach them the word of God. That's our job as parents, which is why most of us, many of us at least, home educate our kids, because we want to be the ones in charge of discipling their hearts and teaching them the ways of God.
