Speaker 1: Free news radio 570 wkbn youngstown.
• 0:16
Speaker 2: Well tough left-hander coming on for new york after a
• 0:19
Speaker 2: superb outing for carlos rodan game tied at one seventh
• 0:24
Speaker 2: inning brent hedrick a lefty to face stewart fairchild who's
• 0:29
Speaker 2: walked and singled in Cleveland's only run, his first hit
• 0:32
Speaker 2: in a Cleveland uniform. He shows bunt, does an offer
• 0:36
Speaker 2: in the pitch, missing ball one. Carlos Rodon made 96 pitches,
• 0:41
Speaker 2: went six innings, gave up a run on two hits,
• 0:44
Speaker 2: struck out seven, walked three. Hedrick, fastball, slider, split. Fairchild
• 0:55
Speaker 2: fouling it straight back to even the count. Hedrick, Worked
• 1:00
Speaker 2: in the ballgame Monday night and ending in two-thirds of
• 1:05
  Speaker 2: scoreless relief. Appearance number 30. He's 3-1 with a 188 ERA.
• 1:14
Speaker 2: The pitch, and it's fouled back again. 1-2 on Fairchild.
• 1:21
Speaker 2: Guardians and Yankees next Monday through Wednesday. Night games Monday, Tuesday.
• 1:26
Speaker 2: And a fun day game. With school out next Wednesday,
• 1:30
Speaker 2: that ought to be a big crowd in Cleveland. Tickets
• 1:32
Speaker 2: begin at $ 20. CLEGuardians.com. Tigers come to town next weekend.
• 1:39
Speaker 2: Now the 1-2 pitch. Swing and a foul tip. It's
• 1:43
Speaker 2: one of the better homestands of the year, Yankees-Tigers.
• 1:47
  Speaker 3: Absolutely.
• 1:48
Speaker 2: First visit of the year for Detroit. Starting to play
• 1:53
Speaker 2: a little bit better. Hedrick is a really good matchup.
• 2:00
Speaker 2: The pitch. And he got him swinging. Stuart Fairchild out
• 2:03
  Speaker 2: number one. Here's Stephen Kwan 0 for 2. 2 for
• 2:08
Speaker 2: 10 in the series. He's really been kept at bay
• 2:12
Speaker 2: by this Yankee pitching staff. Big thing today is Cleveland's
• 2:17
Speaker 2: not been able to hit the long ball. They hit
• 2:19
Speaker 2: four homers in the first two games. Conversely, Cleveland Hasn't
• 2:28
Speaker 2: given up any homers today either. Kwon popping it up
• 2:32
Speaker 2: into the home plate seating area. Foul for strike one.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: Stephen Kwon still trying to get on a hot stretch.
• 2:44
Speaker 2: Batting average at 207. Outfield shallow a bit toward left
• 2:53
Speaker 2: the pitch. And he lines one toward center but right
• 2:57
Speaker 2: at Grisham. two down. That'll bring up Austin Hedges. And again,
• 3:06
Speaker 2: for Stephen Kwan, if he hits the ball in the air,
• 3:09
Speaker 2: either to left or to center, that's exactly where the
• 3:15
Speaker 2: opposition wants him to hit it. He can do damage
• 3:20
Speaker 2: in the air, but only on the pull side for
• 3:22
Speaker 2: the most part. Here's catcher Austin Hedges. He's 0 for 2.
• 3:27
  Speaker 2: 2 down, nobody on. 7th inning. 1-1 game, a swing
• 3:31
Speaker 2: and a miss. Strength 1. Pretty remarkable what Cleveland's done offensively.
• 3:43
Speaker 2: Because you've got to believe Stephen Kwan is going to
• 3:46
Speaker 2: get hot here sooner rather than later. Kyle Manzardo started
• 3:51
Speaker 2: to heat up. What a series Jose Ramirez has had.
• 3:56
Speaker 2: Now the 0-1 is outside 1-1, but those are the
• 3:59
Speaker 2: three guys that Cleveland really leaned on a year ago.
• 4:03
Speaker 2: This year, guys like Chase DeLauder, Travis Pazana, Brian Arrocchio,
• 4:08
Speaker 2: and Angel Martinez have been huge. The 1-1, down and in,
• 4:14
Speaker 2: ball two, 2-1. The pitch. That misses. Three balls and
• 4:38
Speaker 2: a strike on Austin Hedges. You get a feeling one
• 4:48
Speaker 2: mistake might decide this one today. 1-1 game in the seventh.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: The 3-1. And he missed. Ball four with the Yankees challenge.
• 4:58
Speaker 2: Hedrick thought he had a strike. No challenge. Austin Hedges
• 5:03
Speaker 2: with a two-out walk, bringing up Ryan Rocchio. Runner on,
• 5:07
Speaker 2: two down in the seventh. Cleveland's only had the two
• 5:09
Speaker 2: hits in the fourth inning. A 1-1 game, Rocchio batting right-handed.
• 5:17
Speaker 2: His at-bat is going to be held off for a
• 5:21
Speaker 2: moment because manager Aaron Boone is marching out to the mound.
• 5:40
Speaker 2: This is interesting. Discussion continues to go on. A little
• 5:48
Speaker 2: stalling tactic there to get the bullpen ready. Or was it?
• 5:52
  Speaker 3: No?
• 5:59
Speaker 2: That's Matt Blake, the pitching coach, coming back. A little
• 6:03
Speaker 2: chatter with the home plate umpire on his way back
• 6:05
Speaker 2: to the duck out, too. Yeah. At least they walked
• 6:11
Speaker 2: off the mound, arms around each other. 1-1 game. Two down,
• 6:17
Speaker 2: runner at first. Roquio fouling it back, strike one. I mean,
• 6:22
Speaker 2: the Yankees have a challenge left. They didn't use it, though. Maybe,
• 6:26
Speaker 2: and every team is different. Some teams may feel like
• 6:30
Speaker 2: when they're down to one challenge, we're not using it
• 6:32
Speaker 2: until the ninth inning. Every club a little different. The
• 6:38
Speaker 2: pitch waved at. And an 0-2 count on Rocchio. He's
• 6:42
Speaker 2: 1-4-8 this series. So, edges certainly not a threat to Steele.
• 6:50
Speaker 2: At first with two down in the seventh game. Deadlocked
• 6:53
Speaker 2: at a run. The pitch. And it's fouled out of
• 6:56
Speaker 2: play to the right. Still an 0-2 count. The next delivery,
• 7:14
Speaker 2: way high and outside. One ball, two strikes. Well, it
• 7:21
Speaker 2: looks like today is over for Slade Ciccone. I believe
• 7:25
Speaker 2: that's right-hander Cody Hoyer up in the Cleveland pen. Now
• 7:32
Speaker 2: the 1-2. Rocio checks swing. He didn't go on the appeal.
• 7:36
Speaker 2: Pitch in the dirt, 2-2. So Hedrick got two quick outs,
• 7:46
Speaker 2: then a walk of the number eight hitter. Now 2-2
• 7:50
Speaker 2: count on the number nine hitter. Hedrick's pitch, swung on,
• 7:57
Speaker 2: skied in the air to right, twisting down the line, foul,
• 8:01
Speaker 2: and this will nestle into the seats. And the count
• 8:04
Speaker 2: stays 2-2. The new sixth generation Toyota 4Runner. Most technologically
• 8:12
Speaker 2: advanced four-runner ever. Toyota, let's go places. 1-1 game, seventh inning.
• 8:25
Speaker 2: Runner at first, two down, the 2-2. Swung on, hit
• 8:29
Speaker 2: pretty well to right. Schumann back, track near the wall,
• 8:33
Speaker 2: jumps and made the catch. Not sure he had to jump,
• 8:37
Speaker 2: but he did. Still a little bit further to go
• 8:41
Speaker 2: as he got close to the wall. Rocchio hit it hard.
• 8:45
Speaker 2: Anytime you hit it to right field in this park,
• 8:47
Speaker 2: you feel like, eh, maybe it'll get out of here.
• 8:50
Speaker 2: But a nice play by Schumann. Whether he had to
• 8:54
Speaker 2: jump or not, he was going to make sure of
• 8:56
Speaker 2: it as he was well in front of the wall
• 8:59
Speaker 2: when he jumped up, snagged it. It is stretch time

• 11:15
Speaker 2: Cody Hoyer on the pitch for Cleveland, and one of
• 11:18
Speaker 2: the best outings that we have seen in Slade Ciccone's
• 11:23
Speaker 2: time in a Cleveland uniform when you consider against this
• 11:27
Speaker 2: lineup in this ballpark, Slade Ciccone went six strong, gave
• 11:33
Speaker 2: up a run on four hits, struck out four, walked one,
• 11:36
Speaker 2: made 82 pitches, and gave Cleveland its longest start in
• 11:42
Speaker 2: this series. And the bullpen, which is without Hunter Gaddis,
• 11:51
Speaker 2: Colin Holderman, Tim Herron, they all pitched the first two games.
• 11:56
Speaker 2: You're not bringing them back not only a third straight day,
• 12:00
Speaker 2: but a day game following a night game. So Cody
• 12:04
Speaker 2: Hoyer gets the shot, and Cody Hoyer makes appearance number six,
• 12:10
Speaker 2: an ERA of 284, and he was saying, man, I'm
• 12:14
Speaker 2: finally having fun again. 38 months of rehab. 38 months consecutively.
• 12:25
Speaker 2: He had had Tommy John surgery and then he said
• 12:27
Speaker 2: he was back getting ready to pitch again. Threw a
• 12:32
Speaker 2: pitch and fractured his elbow. He has five screws down
• 12:36
Speaker 2: that pitching elbow. I mean, that is over three years
• 12:42
Speaker 2: of constant daily rehab. The mental toll that can take.
• 12:50
Speaker 2: Back throwing it well. Cody Bellinger facing Cody Hoyer. The
• 12:55
Speaker 2: right hander's pitch. In there a strike. Hoyer fastball slider change.
• 13:08
Speaker 2: Now the 0-1. Little wide on a changeup. Cody Hoyer
• 13:13
Speaker 2: did not pitch in a major league game from September
• 13:17
Speaker 2: of 2021 until June of 2025. Bellinger, skies one, shallow center.
• 13:26
Speaker 2: Stuart Fairchild fighting that sun with the catch. One down.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: He said, you can't believe how much fun it is
• 13:35
Speaker 2: to get back out on a mound until you go
• 13:39
Speaker 2: through something like that and you wonder, will I ever...
• 13:43
Speaker 2: ever be able to pitch again. Tommy John is one thing.
• 13:46
Speaker 2: You're recovered from that and you fracture your elbow? That's
• 13:52
Speaker 2: usually career ending. Here's Jazz Chisholm, a strikeout, a sack fly.
• 13:58
Speaker 2: Left-handed hitting second baseman, and he takes outside a ball.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: The problem with this Yankee lineup, even without Judge, so
• 14:08
Speaker 2: many guys are able to take you deep, including the
• 14:11
Speaker 2: guy at the plate. The 1-0 outside 2-0. Today, Chisholm,
• 14:19
Speaker 2: a strikeout. His sack fly in the fourth, driving in
• 14:22
Speaker 2: the Yankees' only run. 1-1 game, seventh inning. Now the
• 14:29
Speaker 2: 2-0 pitch. And it's in there, a strike. Kind of
• 14:33
Speaker 2: a delayed call by James Jean and Chisholm. Kind of
• 14:37
Speaker 2: jumping up and down in the batter's box. Again, you wondered,
• 14:39
Speaker 2: might he challenge? But he didn't. Yankees down to one challenge.
• 14:47
Speaker 2: Now the 2-1. Outside 3-1. You have to be careful here.
• 14:54
Speaker 2: Chisholm is looking to do damage middle, middle end. The
• 14:59
Speaker 2: 3-1 delivery. Down and in. He walked him. And now
• 15:08
Speaker 2: the danger is Chisholm is such a good base stealer.
• 15:11
Speaker 2: He has 14 on the year. which is fifth best
• 15:15
Speaker 2: in the American League. And again, Cleveland pitchers have had
• 15:19
Speaker 2: a hard time slowing down the run game. Here's Jose Caballero.
• 15:24
  Speaker 2: He's 0 for 2 today. Righty-righty matchup. Go ahead, run
• 15:31
Speaker 2: at first. One out, seventh inning. Big lead for Chisholm.
• 15:36
Speaker 2: And the pitch in there, a strike. Caballero was going
• 15:38
Speaker 2: to let him try to steal. It looked like Chisholm
• 15:41
Speaker 2: was going. He was dancing off first, had a mammoth lead,
• 15:46
Speaker 2: and then didn't go. He's got a good lead again.
• 15:50
Speaker 2: Hoyer hands brought up the pitch. Outside again, and again
• 15:56
Speaker 2: it looked like Caballero was trying to give Chisholm a
• 15:59
Speaker 2: chance to steal. One and one to count. Yankees second
• 16:09
Speaker 2: only to Cleveland in stolen bases in the American League.
• 16:12
Speaker 2: Good lead for Chisholm. Draws the throw, back with the dive.
• 16:20
Speaker 2: Cody Hoyer pitched at Wichita State University. Then with the
• 16:26
Speaker 2: White Sox, Cubs, Texas, Detroit. Most of last year in Triple-A.
• 16:36
Speaker 2: Another throw over, that's the second one. So now, Chisholm
• 16:41
Speaker 2: knows he can go a little bit further. Because if
• 16:44
Speaker 2: there's another pick off attempt, if he's out, it's one thing,
• 16:49
Speaker 2: but if he is safe, it's a balk, he goes
• 16:51
Speaker 2: to second. He's got a good lead. Boyer's ready. The one-one,
• 16:57
Speaker 2: way outside, Hedges throw back, they almost got him on
• 17:00
Speaker 2: the back pick. Head first dive, got Chisholm back safely. Boy,
• 17:06
Speaker 2: and again, it looked like he was taking off. Now
• 17:11
Speaker 2: let's see if the Yankees do something with a 2-1 count.
• 17:16
Speaker 2: One out, runner at first, seventh inning. This ballgame deadlocked
• 17:21
Speaker 2: at a run apiece. With these two guys, you can
• 17:28
Speaker 2: do a lot of things. Steal, hit and run. The 2-1.
• 17:34
Speaker 2: Inside corner, a called strike on a slider. 2-2. Literally
• 17:41
Speaker 2: every pitch, it looks like Jazz Chisholm's taking off, but
• 17:45
Speaker 2: has not yet. 2-2 the count on Caballero. And now
• 17:52
Speaker 2: he steps away. Marathon's here to keep you and your
• 17:56
Speaker 2: team fueled all summer long. Marathon driven together. Yankees have
• 18:01
  Speaker 2: out-hit the Guardians 4-2. It's a 1-1 game in the seventh.
• 18:06
Speaker 2: Runner at first, one down. A 2-2 count on Caballero.
• 18:13
Speaker 2: Hoyer's ready. The pitch, runner goes, pitch sliced foul off
• 18:17
Speaker 2: to the right. Will do it again at 2-2, and man,
• 18:20
Speaker 2: Chisholm's getting some great jumps. Chisholm at first was born
• 18:32
Speaker 2: in the Bahamas. Caballero at the plate was born in Panama.
• 18:39
Speaker 2: They're trying to put the Yankees up in the seventh.
• 18:44
Speaker 2: The pitch, a swing and a liner to right. Towards
• 18:48
Speaker 2: right center, reaching up to snag it is the right fielder, Martinez.
• 18:52
Speaker 2: Two down. Here's Ryan McMahon, the left-handed hitting third baseman.
• 18:59
Speaker 2: And Cleveland doesn't really have that matchup lefty in the
• 19:02
Speaker 2: pen today. The only lefty available today is Will Dion,
• 19:06
Speaker 2: and he is not going to be put into this situation.
• 19:11
Speaker 2: He's a long man. So two down for the left-handed
• 19:16
Speaker 2: hitting McMahon. 1-1 game. Toss over and back with a
• 19:22
Speaker 2: dive is Chisholm. Now because it's a new batter, Boyer
• 19:27
Speaker 2: can pick over there three times, but if he doesn't
• 19:30
Speaker 2: pick him off on the third one, then it's that balk. Boy,
• 19:40
Speaker 2: he's got a huge jump. There he goes. Pitch to strike.
• 19:43
Speaker 2: No need to throw.
• 19:43
  Speaker 3: Wow.
• 19:45
Speaker 2: If Boyer had turned and thrown to first, they have
• 19:49
Speaker 2: just chiseled. by 20 feet. So Jazz Chisholm now with
• 19:53
  Speaker 2: 15 steals. And that's a big one because it's got
• 19:58
Speaker 2: the go-ahead run and scoring position with two down in
• 20:01
Speaker 2: the seventh. 1-1 game. The pitch. Down and in. Got
• 20:07
Speaker 2: away from Hedges. To third goes Chisholm. We'll see how
• 20:15
Speaker 2: that is scored. It's going to be called a wild pitch.
• 20:21
Speaker 2: And indeed it was. So, now the Yankees have a
• 20:27
Speaker 2: runner 90 feet from home with two down. 1-1 in
• 20:31
Speaker 2: the seventh. The 1-1 pitch to McMahon. And it's down
• 20:36
Speaker 2: and in. Ball two. Two and one. Again this is
• 20:40
Speaker 2: what happens now when you've had to use your key
• 20:43
Speaker 2: late inning guys. Other guys now are put in roles.
• 20:46
Speaker 2: Maybe they haven't been put in much this year. The
• 20:50
Speaker 2: case for Cody Hoyer here in the seventh. He fires. Strike.
• 20:55
Speaker 2: Paint at the outside corner with a slider. Two and two.
• 21:01
Speaker 2: But Cody Hoyer's been in this role in the past.
• 21:04
Speaker 2: Especially in His early days with the White Sox. Now
• 21:13
Speaker 2: the 2-2. Swing and a foul at the plate. We'll
• 21:20
Speaker 2: do it again at 2-2. Go ahead, run at third,
• 21:34
Speaker 2: and Chaz Chisholm, two down in the seventh, 2-2 pitch
• 21:38
Speaker 2: to McMahon. Way outside, full count. Cody Hoyer. Trying to
• 21:48
Speaker 2: keep the game tied at one. He'll make his 21st
• 21:52
Speaker 2: pitch in the inning. He's thrown 10 balls, 10 strikes.
• 21:56
Speaker 2: Here it comes. Swung on, chopper in the hole, face hit,
• 22:00
Speaker 2: right field. Yankees take the lead. Ryan McMahon. And a
• 22:05
Speaker 2: walk here, followed by a steal and a wild pitch.
• 22:09
  Speaker 2: And New York's on top, 2-1 in the 7th, McMahon's
• 22:13
  Speaker 2: 20th RBI. Yeah, those late-ending walks, a killer. Here's J.C. Escarra,
• 22:23
  Speaker 2: the left-handed hitting catcher. 0 for 2. Escara. What a
• 22:33
Speaker 2: story he is. The pitch to Escara. Down and in
• 22:39
Speaker 2: a ball. He played independent ball in 2022 and 2023.
• 22:43
Speaker 2: To make ends meet, he was the substitute teacher. Drove taxi.
• 22:55
Speaker 2: The pitch. And he fouls it back and out of play.
• 22:58
Speaker 2: One and one. Then he decided that his only shot
• 23:09
Speaker 2: to ever make it would be if he became a catcher.
• 23:13
Speaker 2: He learned how to catch watching videos. The pitch. Down
• 23:17
Speaker 2: and in. Ball two, two and one. J.C. Ascara played it. FIU,
• 23:26
Speaker 2: Florida International University down in Miami. Now the 2-1. Just
• 23:36
Speaker 2: missed wide, 3-1. Yankees on top, 2-1. We're in the seventh.
• 23:45
Speaker 2: Runner at first, two down. Cody Hoyer's ready. Here it comes.
• 23:53
Speaker 2: And it's fouled out of play. Have a 3-2 pitch forthcoming,
• 24:01
Speaker 2: so McMahon will be off at first. This will be
• 24:09
Speaker 2: the 27th pitch of the inning for Cody Hoyer. Here
• 24:13
Speaker 2: it comes. Got him swinging. Good changeup, but the Yankees
• 24:19
Speaker 2: have taken the lead. 2-1 New York. Eighth inning next
• 24:23
Speaker 2: here in the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
• 24:28
Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN, Youngstown.
• 24:43
Speaker 2: Well, we saw a lot of this guy this series.
• 24:45
Speaker 2: Fernando Cruz is on the pitch with a 2-1 lead.
• 24:50
Speaker 2: As we go to the 8th inning, he'll throw a ton,
• 24:55
Speaker 2: and I mean a ton, of split fingers. Cruz worked
• 25:02
Speaker 2: an inning and a third last night and struck out
• 25:05
Speaker 2: three with that splitter. Top of the order, David Frye
• 25:09
Speaker 2: lifted for a pinch hitter. Kyle Manzardo, who's already hit
• 25:13
Speaker 2: two pinch hit home runs this year, takes a called strike.
• 25:19
Speaker 2: David Frye struck out three times today as he was
• 25:23
Speaker 2: the leadoff hitter in DH. Now Kyle Manzardo. The pitch.
• 25:30
Speaker 2: Down and in. One and one they count. Yankees haven't
• 25:35
Speaker 2: had this opportunity to turn it over to their bullpen
• 25:39
Speaker 2: with a lead late. The pitch. And Manzardo takes outside
• 25:50
Speaker 2: a split. Two balls and a strike. Crews this year.
• 25:57
Speaker 2: 30th appearance, three wins, a. 208 ERA,. 196 batting average against.
• 26:07
Speaker 2: Now the 2-1 to Manzardo. And he dropped one in there,
• 26:12
Speaker 2: called strike on the slider. Cruz doesn't throw that hard,
• 26:15
Speaker 2: low 90s. Just a ton of split fingers, as well
• 26:21
Speaker 2: as the sliders. Now the 2-2. Down low, a splitter.
• 26:42
Speaker 2: And the count full. Boy, the third baseman, Ryan McMahon,
• 26:47
Speaker 2: is playing like a shortstop, maybe 20 feet away from
• 26:52
Speaker 2: the shortstop, Jose Caballero. McMahon at third is probably 75
• 26:59
Speaker 2: feet from the foul line. The pitch. Swung on line
• 27:03
Speaker 2: to second. Caught by Chisholm. Hard hit, but Manzardo out
• 27:08
Speaker 2: number one. Here's Jose Ramirez. Switch hitter batting. Left-handed. One
• 27:15
Speaker 2: for three today with a single. First at bat, left-handed.
• 27:22
Speaker 2: What a series for Jose. Going seven for 12. 2-1
• 27:31
Speaker 2: Cleveland on the short end. Eighth inning. The pitch. And
• 27:37
Speaker 2: it's in there called strike. Boy, he hung that splitter. Again,
• 27:45
Speaker 2: infield pull to the right. Outfield deep and around toward
• 27:48
Speaker 2: the right a bit. The 0-1. Waved at. Another good split.
• 27:54
  Speaker 5: 0-2.
• 28:09
Speaker 2: Cruz is ready. Here it comes. Swing and a pop-up foul.
• 28:14
Speaker 2: Third base side. It's staying in the yard. It'll be
• 28:17
Speaker 2: caught in foul territory by McMahon, the third baseman. Two
• 28:23
Speaker 2: down for Reese Hoskins. He's 0-1 with a couple of walks.
• 28:28
Speaker 2: Right-hander against right-hander. Talked about Fernando Cruz last night. What
• 28:46
Speaker 2: a journey to give back to the big leagues. The pitch,
• 28:51
Speaker 2: and it's swung on, popped him up. The shortstop Caballero,
• 28:55
Speaker 2: midway between second and third, makes the catch and a
• 28:59
Speaker 2: quiet eighth inning off Cruz. Boy, has he been a
• 29:02
Speaker 2: weapon for the Yankees this year. Two to one, New
• 29:05
Speaker 2: York has the lead in the middle of the eighth
• 29:07
  Speaker 2: from the Bronx.

Speaker 2: Swing and a miss. Back foot slider ate him up.
• 30:49
Speaker 2: What a job by Tanner Bybee. This is Tanner Bybee.

Speaker 7: You're listening to the Cleveland Clinic Guardians Radio Network.
• 30:56
Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown.
• 31:07
Speaker 2: Matt Vesta from Stanton Island. is going to be doing
• 31:11
Speaker 2: the pitching now for Cleveland. It's a 2-1 ball game.
• 31:17
Speaker 2: Yankees have the lead. Matt Festa. Facing the number nine hitter,
• 31:27
Speaker 2: right fielder, Max Schumann. And the pitch down and away,
• 31:31
  Speaker 2: a ball. Festa this year, 26 appearances, a win, a save, a.
• 31:38
Speaker 2: 450 ERA. He's ready. Here it comes. And it's waved at.
• 31:45
Speaker 2: Dropping to a knee. Swinging so hard with Schumann. And
• 31:50
Speaker 2: the count down. And one and one. Festus ready. And
• 32:01
Speaker 2: now Schumann backs away. Boy, Yankee hitters have stepped away
• 32:06
Speaker 2: a lot this series. Seems like we're seeing that granted
• 32:11
Speaker 2: more and more by umpires to hitters. Now the 1-1.
• 32:19
Speaker 2: Swing and a little bloop job foul. Right side, lower deck.
• 32:24
Speaker 2: One ball, two strikes.
• 32:25
  Speaker 10: 1-1.
• 32:43
Speaker 2: The next pitch missing down, 2-2. Festus ready. Here it comes.
• 32:58
Speaker 2: And it's fouled back. Schumann played collegiately at Eastern Michigan University.
• 33:06
Speaker 2: Played the last two years with the Athletics. And then
• 33:10
Speaker 2: right before spring training, Got traded to New York. Right
• 33:16
Speaker 2: hand to batter. Awaits the 2-2. Here it comes. And
• 33:19
Speaker 2: he waves at it. Fastball that was elevated. Festo with
• 33:23
Speaker 2: a strikeout. Top of the order. Here's Trent Grisham. Double
• 33:27
Speaker 2: and a single. And a line out. Two for three.
• 33:38
Speaker 2: Gorgeous day, and it's been a great week weather-wise here
• 33:42
Speaker 2: in New York. It's that time of summer where the pitch,
• 33:48
Speaker 2: outside a ball that hasn't been a hot two, three
• 33:51
Speaker 2: months where the city is sweltering like it can be
• 33:55
Speaker 2: if you come here in August. Perfect time of the
• 34:00
Speaker 2: year to be in the Big Apple. The 1-0 pitch,
• 34:04
Speaker 2: swung on, banged right side, backhanded at first. Hoskins, the
• 34:08
Speaker 2: underhand flip to Festa covering, two down. Here's Ben Rice,
• 34:12
  Speaker 2: 0 for 2 of the walk. We're a little north
• 34:20
Speaker 2: of Central Park. 843 acres of some of the most
• 34:33
Speaker 2: valuable land in the world. Central Park, two and a
• 34:39
Speaker 2: half miles from the north end to the south end
• 34:43
Speaker 2: and a half mile wide. The pitch. In there, a strike.
• 34:50
Speaker 2: And it is massively populated each and every day by
• 34:57
Speaker 2: folks taking advantage of Central Park in Manhattan. The 0-1.
• 35:02
Speaker 2: Swung on, hammered to right, down the line, foul. And
• 35:06
Speaker 2: the count... No balls, two strikes. Talked about it before, but...
• 35:16
Speaker 2: I don't know if you could put a price on
• 35:19
Speaker 2: what that land would cost. It costs... Here's the set
• 35:28
Speaker 2: and the 0-2 pitch. Foul back. It costs $ 80 million
• 35:32
Speaker 2: a year. $ 80 million a year. for maintenance of Central Park.
• 35:47
Speaker 2: About $ 30 million to follow the animals. The 0-2. Swing
• 35:52
Speaker 2: and a foul down the left side. Still an 0-2 count.
• 35:56
Speaker 8: I believe it with the amount of lawns they need
• 35:58
Speaker 8: to cut and just shrubbery and all that. But then
• 36:01
Speaker 8: there's the ice rink and some other facilities that they
• 36:04
  Speaker 8: have in there.
• 36:05
Speaker 2: You can see it. The lakes, the ponds, the softball fields,
• 36:09
Speaker 2: pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts. Now the 0-2. Swing
• 36:15
Speaker 2: and a foul back and out of play. It's the
• 36:18
Speaker 2: home of a great zoo. And it's been an iconic
• 36:25
Speaker 2: setting for so many movies. It's a pretty incredible piece
• 36:32
Speaker 2: of property. 2-1 Yankees, eighth inning, D.O. 2. Check swing,
• 36:38
Speaker 2: did he go? No on the appeal at third. One ball,
• 36:41
Speaker 2: two strikes on Ben Rice. Two down, nominee on Rice.
• 36:47
Speaker 2: Two for ten in the series. Festa's ready. Here it comes. Inside, 2-2.
• 37:00
Speaker 2: And it's a challenge by Austin Hedges. Innings over. Austin
• 37:10
Speaker 2: Hedges was correct. Rice out looking. Cleveland's got one more shot. 2-1,
• 37:16
Speaker 2: New York has the lead. The ninth inning's next from
• 37:18
Speaker 2: the Bronx on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network. David Bednar,
• 37:37
Speaker 2: the Yankee closer, has not worked since Sunday. He inherits
• 37:42
Speaker 2: a 2-1 lead. Travis Pazana leading off the top of
• 37:46
Speaker 2: the ninth for Cleveland. Fernando Cruz had a 1-2-3-8. Bednar,
• 37:50
Speaker 2: fastball split curve. The pitch, and he went outside and
• 37:55
Speaker 2: missed with a splitter. Well, as much success as Cruz
• 37:59
Speaker 2: had last night and today with a split finger, Will
• 38:05
Speaker 2: that rub off on Bednar? The 1-0. A wave job.
• 38:11
Speaker 2: Threw him another splitter down and in. 1-1. Bednar, 12
• 38:16
Speaker 2: for 14 in saves. He has a record of 1-3. ERA, 450.
• 38:21
Speaker 2: He's been hit pretty hard. against the pitch. Swing and
• 38:28
Speaker 2: a miss. Nothing but splitters. Well, he has seen how
• 38:32
Speaker 2: good Cruz... was for two straight days against Cleveland, throwing
• 38:37
Speaker 2: the split, and that's all he's throwing. Travis Bozzano, who
• 38:41
Speaker 2: today has grounded out, struck out, flied out. 1-4-11 in
• 38:45
Speaker 2: the series. Cleveland had their one run and two hits
• 38:50
Speaker 2: in the fourth, nothing other than that. Now the 1-2. Outside, 2-2.
• 38:58
Speaker 2: That might have been a show-me fastball. Bednar throws mid-90s.
• 39:08
Speaker 2: Then with San Diego, Pittsburgh, now New York. The pitch.
• 39:15
Speaker 2: And a swing and a chopper off the plate near
• 39:18
Speaker 2: the foul line at first. Bednar gloves and fires overhand
• 39:21
Speaker 2: to get Mazzana at first. One down. Here's Angel Martinez 0-3.
• 39:26
Speaker 2: He'll bat left-handed. Bednar. Last year with the Pirates and
• 39:34
Speaker 2: Yankees had 27 saves. He had a 39-save season three
• 39:44
Speaker 2: years ago in Pittsburgh. Chase DeLauder on deck to bat
• 39:47
Speaker 2: for Stuart Fairchild. We're in the ninth. Cleveland's down 2-1.
• 39:52
Speaker 2: Now the pitch. And it's fouled at the plate. He
• 39:59
Speaker 2: is just going after Cleveland with a split-fingered fastball. Cleveland
• 40:08
Speaker 2: got its only run in the fourth inning. Jose Ramirez singled.
• 40:13
Speaker 2: Reese Hoskins walked. And eventually Stuart Fairchild, an RBI single.
• 40:19
Speaker 2: The pitch fouled at the plate off the leg of
• 40:22
Speaker 2: Martinez who's hobbling. Another splitter. The Yankees, they got a
• 40:30
Speaker 2: run in the fourth on a jazz chism sack fly
• 40:34
Speaker 2: and then took the lead on a two-out RBI single
• 40:37
Speaker 2: in the seventh by Ryan McMahon. Two to one, Yankees
• 40:42
Speaker 2: lead trying to avoid being swept by Cleveland. 0-2 the
• 40:50
Speaker 2: count on Martinez. Bednar's pitch. Swung on. Grounded to second.
• 40:56
Speaker 2: Routine for Chisholm. Fires it over. And Cleveland's down to
• 41:00
Speaker 2: its last outage. Chase DeLauder batting with two down. Base
• 41:05
Speaker 2: is empty. DeLauder pinch hitting. He's one for two as
• 41:10
Speaker 2: a major league pinch hitter.
• 41:11
Speaker 3: On the air batting 258.
• 41:13
Speaker 2: Seven homers. 32 runs batted in. New York 2, Cleveland 1.
• 41:23
Speaker 2: Two down, top of the ninth. David Bednar looking for
• 41:27
Speaker 2: save number 13. He fires. De Lauder takes a strike.
• 41:34
Speaker 2: That may be the last fastball chase De Lauder sees. Outfield.
• 41:41
Speaker 2: A touch the other way toward left. Medium deep. The
• 41:48
Speaker 2: next offering. And it's a little bit low, a split finger,
• 41:54
Speaker 2: challenged by the Yankees. Well, the video board hasn't been working,
• 42:00
Speaker 2: but now it's working for the challenge, and the result
• 42:03
Speaker 2: is Cleveland wins. Yankees out of challenges. So Chase DeLauder,
• 42:12
Speaker 2: with two down bases empty and Cleveland down a run,
• 42:16
Speaker 2: has a 1-1 count. Bednar's next pitch. Outside, ball two,
• 42:26
Speaker 2: two and one. The rookie out of James Madison University
• 42:32
Speaker 2: and a former first-round pick by Cleveland. De Lauder in
• 42:39
  Speaker 2: a hitter's count. Here's the 2-1 offering. Swung on, grounded
• 42:45
Speaker 2: to second. Chisholm gobbles, throws, and the Yankees win the
• 42:48
  Speaker 2: finale 2-1.
• 42:52
