Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Kevin Putt: Former Springbok previews the first clash between the All Blacks and Springboks
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Big showdown at Johannesburg this weekend. The All Blacks take
- 0:02Speaker 1: on South Africa at Alice Park three am our time
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sunday morning. Savia back as captain, Roy Guard back at
- 0:08Speaker 1: half back, Ruben Love at number ten, Will Jordan on
- 0:10Speaker 1: the wing, Mackenzie starting at full back. Injury seems to
- 0:13Speaker 1: have been recovered. Kevin part form of Springbok with me
- 0:15Speaker 1: this morning, Kevin, good morning, I'm here right. Oh there
- 0:18Speaker 1: you are? Hey are you excited?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Oh? Mouth watering? Absolutely brilliant, spiritual home of South African rugby.
- 0:25Speaker 1: What do you make of this team?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Oh? Well, the All Black teams as good as we
- 0:30Speaker 2: can put out. There's still questions, you know, positionally about
- 0:33Speaker 2: whether we're good enough to play a Springbok team with
- 0:36Speaker 2: basically World Cup holders in every position on the field.
- 0:39Speaker 2: But we couldn't do any better. Really buzz for it.
- 0:43Speaker 1: What about Fabian Holland, No.
- 0:46Speaker 2: No, that's he's sort of been spoken about for a
- 0:49Speaker 2: long time as the incumbent coming through. I think that
- 0:54Speaker 2: they're going for someone that can stay on the field
- 0:56Speaker 2: for a decent period of time and that lad's got
- 0:58Speaker 2: a massive engine.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Now the injuries aside, it's going to be a massively
- 1:03Speaker 1: physical game for the All Blacks, isn't it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Oh you've got your bomb squad again. And I know
- 1:09Speaker 2: that becomes a bit of a catchphrase, but you've got
- 1:11Speaker 2: your bomb squad. But you've also got guys like Malcolm
- 1:13Speaker 2: Marx starting who has seen as the best hooker in
- 1:16Speaker 2: the world. So you're talking physicality to a new level.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It'll really come down though, about how the spring Boks play.
- 1:22Speaker 2: If they decide to beat us up rather than just
- 1:24Speaker 2: beat us, it could be a long day at the
- 1:28Speaker 2: office in terms of that physicality and risk to injury.
- 1:32Speaker 1: They don't want to slow the game down. We want
- 1:33Speaker 1: to plant faster. The ref's going to be crucial, isn't it.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Isn't heat?
- 1:37Speaker 2: Oh they always in South Africa, but yes, yes they are.
- 1:43Speaker 2: The thing that will be our biggest challenge will be
- 1:46Speaker 2: the aerial game, where at altitude the ball stays up
- 1:49Speaker 2: a bit longer, so that everything will be a contest.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It'll be mouth watering, but it will also be nerve wracking.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I would imagine edge of the seat stuff.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Kevin, what is your for the score?
- 2:02Speaker 2: Look on the basis of World Cup medals that are
- 2:05Speaker 2: in it, that've got to go in his favorites the
- 2:07Speaker 2: spring Box for this. But that said, there is no
- 2:10Speaker 2: reason if we can sort of kick on from where
- 2:13Speaker 2: we played Ireland, that magnificent game that we had, we
- 2:17Speaker 2: could definitely challenge just a few areas of midfield and
- 2:22Speaker 2: aerial contests that would be putting this on the back foot.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I would suggest you.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Didn't answer the question, Kevin, who's going to run the box?
- 2:32Speaker 2: The box? I sect?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Okay, all right, good stuff, Kevin part with us former
- 2:36Speaker 1: springbok for.
- 2:37Speaker 2: More from early edition with Ryan Bridge. Listen live to
