- 0:09Speaker 2: The world's of Vigeon podcasts. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: That's how I saw it. I mean, he has like
- 0:21Speaker 3: incredibly soft hands.
- 0:22Speaker 4: James Pettigrew wants to know for his zone, Paul might
- 0:24Speaker 4: be watching the.
- 0:25Speaker 2: World Cup of the background.
- 0:27Speaker 5: That's hilarious because he's been pooping on the world for weeks,
- 0:31Speaker 5: so now now he's watching it.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Oh, it just shows you that I'm a monkey. To
- 0:35Speaker 3: forty two into the World Cup. Well, the first fake
- 0:38Speaker 3: injury credit. I just want to speak on behalf of
- 0:41Speaker 3: Evan and I. We want to welcome Mike the Talent
- 0:44Speaker 3: to the talent portion of the show.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Well, what sports market could you live in that you
- 0:48Speaker 4: would actually like?
- 0:49Speaker 2: The hometown of Boston but you don't. I do hate
- 0:52Speaker 2: them all.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I get frustrated with my teams because I'm a good fan.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I could go live in Polukaville and just say, yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 3: two thousand and four was one of the greatest sports
- 1:00Speaker 3: almost in my life.
- 1:01Speaker 4: I think that's back when you still had some innocence.
- 1:03Speaker 3: This is Patriots Unfiltered. Presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:07Speaker 3: deals by a Toyota dot com.
- 1:11Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:13Speaker 4: It is Wednesday here at Jillette Stadium, a special Wednesday
- 1:18Speaker 4: edition just for FIFA.
- 1:20Speaker 2: We did this just for the World Cup.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yes, we are doing a Wednesday show because yesterday, of
- 1:26Speaker 4: course it was Norway against Iraq here at Boston Stadium.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Let me get it all right.
- 1:35Speaker 4: And this Holland guy, that guy, Yeah, well this Holland.
- 1:42Speaker 3: They can't see them.
- 1:43Speaker 2: No, it really is incredible.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Like I knew he was a good goal scorer, but
- 1:47Speaker 4: when this guy is coming at you because one of
- 1:50Speaker 4: the goals they had the angle of him coming toward
- 1:52Speaker 4: the goal, he's intimidating like like, and he gets from
- 1:57Speaker 4: zero to sixty like that. It's an he's a he's
- 2:00Speaker 4: a locomotive, that this guy. Anyway, So we are truly
- 2:05Speaker 4: into the down days of the NFL. The all the
- 2:08Speaker 4: team is gone. Rookies are here but just for this week,
- 2:13Speaker 4: but you know coaches will be gone.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Uh, and so this is.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Really whatever you want to talk about Wednesday show. We
- 2:21Speaker 4: can talk about World Cup, we can talk about the Celtics,
- 2:26Speaker 4: maybe copying the Patriots and making a big trade. You know,
- 2:30Speaker 4: we they got pressured by the Patriots, like.
- 2:35Speaker 5: We got a Jon now he plays basket. Nope, it's
- 2:40Speaker 5: like a soft jack.
- 2:41Speaker 4: We can talk about Patriots if you want. I don't
- 2:43Speaker 4: know what right now there is to talk about, but
- 2:47Speaker 4: we can. We can get into that. First public practice
- 2:51Speaker 4: will be July twenty fifth. It's a saturdayday, and so
- 2:57Speaker 4: we're looking forward to that. Not really, I'm not really
- 2:59Speaker 4: looking forward to that. I'm looking forward to it, but
- 3:01Speaker 4: I don't want it to come fast, you know. I
- 3:04Speaker 4: want to savor the days before the summer is essentially
- 3:08Speaker 4: over for us.
- 3:09Speaker 6: Michael Scott, you know, Yeah, it's been good there now.
- 3:14Speaker 6: It's been great weather the last couple of days. So
- 3:15Speaker 6: that's why I'm like, yeah, let's you know, a little dryer,
- 3:17Speaker 6: a little but not quite as muggy and hot as
- 3:20Speaker 6: it was last week. So yeah, I enjoy this time
- 3:22Speaker 6: before training camp. But we started recording some training camp
- 3:25Speaker 6: positional preview things, so it's kind of a nice way
- 3:27Speaker 6: to just put kind of a period on the off
- 3:29Speaker 6: season and reassess kind of where everything stands right now.
- 3:33Speaker 6: And I think this the two biggest pieces are just
- 3:35Speaker 6: the Gonzales contract situation and the overall health status at
- 3:39Speaker 6: the edge position. We're two big areas that, you know,
- 3:42Speaker 6: probably most interested once we get to camp. What's that
- 3:45Speaker 6: PP list look like, Harol Landry Akis, what's their availability?
- 3:49Speaker 2: Right? Yeah?
- 3:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. The accus thing, it seems like uncertain is
- 3:56Speaker 5: the word. I guess, like, I don't really know if
- 3:58Speaker 5: anybody fully knows what's going on. He's posting videos on
- 4:01Speaker 5: his social media of him doing workouts away from the
- 4:03Speaker 5: facility over the weekend, and he had a he did
- 4:07Speaker 5: have a sleeve on his right or left leg and
- 4:11Speaker 5: I can't remember one of the two. Yeah, I'm trying
- 4:14Speaker 5: to think, but he had a sleeve on his on
- 4:17Speaker 5: his knee, but looked like he was moving pretty well
- 4:20Speaker 5: to me. But you know, he's going through cones and
- 4:22Speaker 5: stuff like, it's not like it's football football. But he
- 4:25Speaker 5: did post that, and you know, Mike Ree said some
- 4:28Speaker 5: reporting on it where it was like to some teams
- 4:31Speaker 5: it was this, but to some teams it was that.
- 4:33Speaker 5: So who knows, Like who knows?
- 4:36Speaker 3: So I'm going to use that as sort of a
- 4:38Speaker 3: jumping off point of why I'm a little concerned about this.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Whole situation is now it's been over a week. It
- 4:44Speaker 3: was last Tuesday. I believe that Mike had that his
- 4:48Speaker 3: first press conference in mini camp right last Tuesday. Yep,
- 4:51Speaker 3: I'm not mistaken, correct, And he sort of talked about quote,
- 4:56Speaker 3: the procedure that he wasn't there, lack on tract, all
- 5:00Speaker 3: that stuff. So that's a that's a good amount of
- 5:03Speaker 3: time for the Beat writers to sort of figure out
- 5:08Speaker 3: what the situation is, and no one has really been
- 5:10Speaker 3: able to do it yet, you know, and Mike was
- 5:12Speaker 3: the only one that really had any information. But even
- 5:15Speaker 3: that as like Greece, yes, as Evan just said, he
- 5:19Speaker 3: had sort of some some vagaries. This is kind of
- 5:25Speaker 3: part of the reason why I'm concerned about this. I
- 5:27Speaker 3: told you I didn't really love the wave Rabel sounded
- 5:31Speaker 3: and appeared. I thought he sounded like he was frustrated
- 5:34Speaker 3: with it when he was telling us about it. The
- 5:36Speaker 3: fact that no one's been able to call Mike or
- 5:39Speaker 3: call somebody and find out specifically what it is tells
- 5:42Speaker 3: me there's some uncertainty as to what they want to say,
- 5:49Speaker 3: which tells me that this isn't just the run of
- 5:51Speaker 3: the mill, like this is. He wasn't not on the
- 5:54Speaker 3: practice field at mini camp because he didn't have a
- 5:56Speaker 3: practice agreement in place even though he wasn't signed. So
- 6:00Speaker 3: the I it's one thing to say like, well, he's
- 6:03Speaker 3: not signed, so he's not at mini camp. I think
- 6:05Speaker 3: he's I think it's the other way around. Why I
- 6:09Speaker 3: think that's why he's not signed is because I think
- 6:11Speaker 3: there's some confusion as to what the situation is. And
- 6:14Speaker 3: otherwise I think we'd know more after a whole more
- 6:18Speaker 3: than a week, eight days, I.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Think we'd know more than we know. Yeah, I mean
- 6:22Speaker 1: that's why I'm a little now.
- 6:23Speaker 6: We're all just kind of crossing our fingers and see
- 6:25Speaker 6: what happens when you get to that handful of days
- 6:27Speaker 6: before camp opens and that's when the pewp list comes
- 6:30Speaker 6: out and all that kind of stuff. Or as we
- 6:32Speaker 6: said last week, maybe there's suddenly announcement that he got
- 6:35Speaker 6: signed to a contract and that would be a good
- 6:36Speaker 6: indicator that things are had.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Let's let's hope that that that's what happens. Is you know,
- 6:40Speaker 3: they can, they can you know, maybe his health is
- 6:43Speaker 3: a little bit better. As Evan said, he's posting some
- 6:45Speaker 3: videos of himself working out. Maybe he's on the mend.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Maybe he doesn't need to start training camp on any
- 6:52Speaker 3: kind of a list, and they can get his contract signed.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That would be the best. Obviously, the best case.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Sleeve on the left leg looked at left.
- 6:59Speaker 4: So also another thing that came across my time, when
- 7:03Speaker 4: did you hear and I don't know if it's true
- 7:05Speaker 4: that Gonzalez is looking to buy a house in the
- 7:07Speaker 4: area like he was my favorite.
- 7:10Speaker 5: This guy's selling his house, this guy's buying a house.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I did see that a lot of people yesterday were
- 7:15Speaker 3: saying he bought a house in Walpole. I don't know
- 7:17Speaker 3: if that's true. I don't know. I mean, I don't
- 7:21Speaker 3: want to say I don't care because I'm not can
- 7:23Speaker 3: I just those kinds of things don't really move the
- 7:25Speaker 3: needle for me on.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Well, if he actually did buy a house in Walpole
- 7:29Speaker 4: just recently, that's a good sign.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Right if you say so, I would don't know. I've
- 7:34Speaker 3: seen I've seen a million. I've seen a million of
- 7:37Speaker 3: these buy a house, guy's gone the next year, like
- 7:40Speaker 3: I've seen that happen a million times. And I think
- 7:42Speaker 3: he's going to play this year. I don't think he's
- 7:45Speaker 3: gonna like hold out and not play. He's under contract.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I think he's going to play this year.
- 7:49Speaker 4: No, but doesn't doesn't it kind of tell you that
- 7:52Speaker 4: maybe he is expecting to get some money soon.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I me.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I mean, I've seen this go a million different ways.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Like I think he's going to resign, So I think
- 8:04Speaker 3: it's going to be a moot point.
- 8:05Speaker 6: But I would have waited for the new money that
- 8:08Speaker 6: I might have been able to splurt into one of
- 8:10Speaker 6: the now will be able.
- 8:11Speaker 5: To just assume the money is coming in his case,
- 8:16Speaker 5: I think.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And now he'll be able to sign.
- 8:19Speaker 5: I think there's also the discussion with the Gonzales thing
- 8:24Speaker 5: about you know, the fact that Drake May is coming
- 8:27Speaker 5: up to and you know there have a lot of
- 8:29Speaker 5: expenses on this team, and uh, you know, I just
- 8:33Speaker 5: I feel like I think the big talking point that
- 8:36Speaker 5: was circling I think might have been one of our
- 8:37Speaker 5: friends Giardi or Andrew Callahan was saying, well, they'd have
- 8:41Speaker 5: three players if you include a J. Brown making top
- 8:45Speaker 5: of the market kind of money. You know, Drake May
- 8:48Speaker 5: eventually Gonzalez and Brown, and that would be a departure
- 8:52Speaker 5: from what you know they've seen. And I would just
- 8:54Speaker 5: say you know, ideally, like you stagger those contracts so
- 8:59Speaker 5: that you're not really paying Gonzales and Drake May the
- 9:04Speaker 5: full boat until twenty twenty eight at the same time.
- 9:09Speaker 5: And at twenty twenty eight, at that point, are we
- 9:12Speaker 5: one hundred percent sure that AJ Brown is going to
- 9:14Speaker 5: be a Patriot three years from now?
- 9:16Speaker 3: You know, like, you know, I.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Think that that's they're in this window right now where
- 9:22Speaker 5: they can afford to do this. Once they both get
- 9:25Speaker 5: expensive at the same time, then I think that that
- 9:27Speaker 5: changes things. But at least for the next two years,
- 9:30Speaker 5: they have this flexibility to to play with some money,
- 9:34Speaker 5: to trade for AJ Brown and make some of these
- 9:36Speaker 5: splashes that they've made. We'll find out in two years,
- 9:40Speaker 5: you know, in twenty twenty eight, if it changes the
- 9:42Speaker 5: way that they do business once those guys are both making,
- 9:46Speaker 5: you know, big time money. If I thought that was
- 9:48Speaker 5: interesting that, you know, just the the whole planning of it,
- 9:51Speaker 5: and Elliott Wolf saying it too, that you know, we
- 9:54Speaker 5: got we got a little bit of a of a
- 9:58Speaker 5: window here. But then the window is going to close
- 10:00Speaker 5: and Drake May is going to be making sixty five million,
- 10:03Speaker 5: and Gonzo's given me making thirty five million, and it's
- 10:06Speaker 5: gonna be a lot.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yep.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Then what do you do?
- 10:08Speaker 3: And to your point, Fred, when you open the show,
- 10:10Speaker 3: just kind of like the downtime now, you know, as
- 10:13Speaker 3: we're waiting, you know, training camps coming and this is
- 10:15Speaker 3: the time. You know a lot of a lot of
- 10:18Speaker 3: these kinds of things get done between the end of
- 10:21Speaker 3: mini camp and the start of training camp. So, I mean,
- 10:23Speaker 3: I I think that's what the direction that we're going.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised to hear soon about some kind
- 10:29Speaker 3: of a an agreement with Gonzales. You know, we'll see
- 10:34Speaker 3: if it's the you know, the full bore, you know,
- 10:36Speaker 3: the full extension and you know, highest paid corner and
- 10:40Speaker 3: all that stuff. But I'd be surprised if nothing happens
- 10:43Speaker 3: between now in training camp.
- 10:45Speaker 6: Yeah not oh really, I mean you don't think maybe
- 10:47Speaker 6: get back into training camp and then I'd be surprised
- 10:49Speaker 6: happens that would start to drag into it a little.
- 10:51Speaker 3: If it drags into training camp, it's not good. Yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 3: it's not good. Hopefully it doesn't and hopefully if it
- 10:56Speaker 3: does drag into camp training camp. To your point, Mike,
- 10:59Speaker 3: it's immediate, you know, first couple of days we get
- 11:01Speaker 3: it done. We're just you know, crossing the t's and
- 11:04Speaker 3: dot in the eyes and stuff like that. But I
- 11:06Speaker 3: think once they start lingering into actual time when you're
- 11:09Speaker 3: supposed to be playing, it's not good. Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 5: I think that, you know, maybe it's rose colored glasses
- 11:15Speaker 5: a little bit. But the fact that he was at
- 11:18Speaker 5: mini camp and even lightly participated in in mini camp,
- 11:23Speaker 5: to me, that was maybe a little bit of an
- 11:25Speaker 5: olive branch of like we're not worlds apart here, Like
- 11:28Speaker 5: if they were truly worlds apart, then you know, you
- 11:31Speaker 5: do the whole thing, right, Like even if you're holding in.
- 11:34Speaker 5: You know, we've seen guys hold in and you know,
- 11:36Speaker 5: Matthew Judahon's sitting on the on the sideline like you know,
- 11:40Speaker 5: or Stefan Gilmour is like off on the hill like
- 11:43Speaker 5: doing conditioning completely away from the team. He's here, but
- 11:47Speaker 5: he's not doing anything. Gonzales even doing individual drills and
- 11:51Speaker 5: the walk through periods tells me that he is at
- 11:54Speaker 5: least the relationship is in the negotiation is at least
- 11:58Speaker 5: going somewhere. I think if it was go nowhere, he
- 12:01Speaker 5: he would have been sitting out completely.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, do you think I had a retort to that.
- 12:07Speaker 4: No, I just thought, are you disappointed that you think
- 12:10Speaker 4: it's going to get done?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Well, why do you do that? Like, why do you
- 12:16Speaker 3: do that? I don't gut you know me, I'm very consistent.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I'm what for a pessimist, No, I'm for the player
- 12:24Speaker 3: right in this league with such little guaranteed money and
- 12:28Speaker 3: just the willingness, you know, like everyone was talking about
- 12:31Speaker 3: A J. Brown. I don't know if I don't know
- 12:33Speaker 3: if A J. Brown is going to be here in
- 12:34Speaker 3: twenty seven, let alone twenty eight. They have no power
- 12:38Speaker 3: the players in that league, the vast majority of them. Yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 3: so I'm not I'm you know, I'm for the player
- 12:44Speaker 3: almost all the time in these situation.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Player from you know, it's a business, so for them too.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, all right, So those are some things. I
- 12:54Speaker 4: don't know if there's anything else that you want to
- 12:55Speaker 4: throw out there.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Yeah, no, No, this is the time to kind of
- 13:01Speaker 6: focus on what they need and you know, with tight
- 13:04Speaker 6: end positions, you know, maybe somewhere we see a signing
- 13:06Speaker 6: a saw, you know, Taylor cous throwing Farrell Brown out
- 13:09Speaker 6: there for you know, good reason, that's he's been here
- 13:10Speaker 6: and he can block and all that, But I think
- 13:13Speaker 6: this team's pretty well set as we get through the previews.
- 13:17Speaker 6: It's just you're always, I felt, especially on the defensive
- 13:19Speaker 6: side of the ball, you're saying the top of the
- 13:22Speaker 6: depth chart looks pretty good, you know. I mean, could
- 13:24Speaker 6: they be better in a couple of spots maybe, but overall.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I think the state of the team is in good shape.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I think they're in you know, in good shape.
- 13:31Speaker 6: They definitely have some questions, but you know, in regards
- 13:34Speaker 6: to all the contract talk, I would just, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 6: i'd wonder if guys don't develop, you know, if if
- 13:38Speaker 6: everybody kind of develops, and you know, you don't have
- 13:41Speaker 6: a lot of holes. Really, I mean, obviously it's whack
- 13:44Speaker 6: a mole with some of these positions, but uh, you know,
- 13:48Speaker 6: if you don't have to go back and look for
- 13:49Speaker 6: another left tackle, if Acis develops and you don't have to,
- 13:53Speaker 6: you know, I could see a world where next year
- 13:54Speaker 6: you're saying, they got to go find some juice off
- 13:57Speaker 6: the edge.
- 13:57Speaker 1: You know, I could see that being something that you know,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Landry's kind of fallen off.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Acus didn't quite bring the pass rush like we wanted.
- 14:04Speaker 6: Whatever it might be, But you know, but if he
- 14:06Speaker 6: does develop, you can focus the funds on the guys
- 14:10Speaker 6: like Drake May and you know.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And that it just goes back to the lull that
- 14:13Speaker 1: they hit.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Where they were missing on their draft picks. And you know,
- 14:16Speaker 6: we'll see how this class kind of plays out. I mean,
- 14:19Speaker 6: it's not a lot of optimism that people pass the
- 14:23Speaker 6: fourth round are going to come in and be able
- 14:25Speaker 6: to really carve out significant roles. But it'll be an
- 14:27Speaker 6: ongoing kind of thing trying to fill that depth out.
- 14:30Speaker 6: But if they if they the people that they've drafted
- 14:32Speaker 6: and earn those positions develop, I don't think that they're
- 14:35Speaker 6: going to be stretched so thin because of a Gonzales
- 14:37Speaker 6: in May contract. If now, if aj Brown flames out
- 14:41Speaker 6: and they have to go back and find somebody like that,
- 14:43Speaker 6: if you know, if the pass rusher.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Them, then those are premium positions they're going to.
- 14:48Speaker 6: Have to pay for and go look for maybe in
- 14:49Speaker 6: free agency, and that might complicate things.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I just look at like, you know, we always
- 14:54Speaker 5: bring up Kansas City, like Kansas City is paying the
- 14:57Speaker 5: quarterback now, and what have they done? They traded Tyreek,
- 15:00Speaker 5: They traded Trent McDuffie. You know, they they're getting out
- 15:03Speaker 5: of these other really big contracts, you know, so, and
- 15:07Speaker 5: what happened they their roster talent has depreciated because when
- 15:13Speaker 5: you're picking thirtieth and then you're jettison guys that because
- 15:18Speaker 5: they're big money players, you know, it's harder to get
- 15:21Speaker 5: that premium talent. You know, at some point like that
- 15:25Speaker 5: that it becomes, you know, a difficult thing to maneuver.
- 15:29Speaker 5: And I just I think we're getting ahead of ourselves
- 15:31Speaker 5: worrying about all that to an extent. But at the
- 15:35Speaker 5: same time, you know, you mentioned tight end, like, is
- 15:38Speaker 5: Eli Riden ready to be a snap right guy as
- 15:43Speaker 5: a rookie right out of the gate, or you know,
- 15:46Speaker 5: are they going to go out and sign a veteran
- 15:48Speaker 5: tight end to bring into camp, because I think that's
- 15:51Speaker 5: asking a lot. I think that's asking a lot of
- 15:53Speaker 5: a guy that.
- 15:54Speaker 3: That's a good question. So obviously they probably need to
- 15:59Speaker 3: go out signed someone anyway. But could you see them
- 16:03Speaker 3: playing the vast majority of the year with just Hunter Henry?
- 16:07Speaker 5: You know, no, I can't.
- 16:10Speaker 4: I can't see Hunter Henry playing the majority if it's
- 16:13Speaker 4: all going to be him.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Like your depth chart at tight end is going to
- 16:16Speaker 5: be Henry Arden and then like Tanner Arkin or c. J.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Dupree or no, even if you're you know, but if
- 16:21Speaker 3: you're throwing Farrell Brown, to me, it doesn't really change
- 16:24Speaker 3: the no, yeah, you know, like it's it's still whether
- 16:27Speaker 3: or not you think Ridan is ready to be a
- 16:30Speaker 3: forty five or fifty percent guy. So to me, when
- 16:33Speaker 3: you have a tight end on the on the field,
- 16:34Speaker 3: it's going to be Henry and I just wonder if
- 16:37Speaker 3: they go in a different direction, you know, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 3: it's going to be you know, a lot of three
- 16:45Speaker 3: receiver sets with just one tight end, the full bat
- 16:49Speaker 3: you know, yeah, the full back helps, the full back helps.
- 16:52Speaker 5: But you know, last year Austin Hooper was a forty
- 16:55Speaker 5: five forty eight percent snap guy.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I don't, but that's that's my point.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I don't.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I kind of agree with where you're going. I'm not
- 17:01Speaker 3: sure that they look at Raredent now. Maybe by the
- 17:04Speaker 3: end of the year he can be something like that,
- 17:05Speaker 3: but I don't think you're going to get a full
- 17:07Speaker 3: year of Austin Hooper like LOWD for Eli Raredan and
- 17:11Speaker 3: I don't expect that out of him, like as a as.
- 17:13Speaker 5: A third round pick, late third round pick. I don't
- 17:16Speaker 5: expect him to to be an impact player out of
- 17:19Speaker 5: the shoot, especially at that position. But you know, is
- 17:22Speaker 5: it a guy like Pharaoh Brown, who I think is
- 17:25Speaker 5: more you know, just adding bodies to that room and
- 17:28Speaker 5: adding you know, some depth, or is it you know,
- 17:31Speaker 5: Johnny Smith is still a free agent. You know, Will
- 17:33Speaker 5: Disley is still a free agent. Is it a trade
- 17:36Speaker 5: you know for somebody that you know a lot of
- 17:38Speaker 5: people bring up like Cole Comet, you know, from the Bears,
- 17:41Speaker 5: because they have like seventeen tight ends, Like you know,
- 17:43Speaker 5: do you.
- 17:44Speaker 3: That would change the equation in my in my or.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Do you count on Reggie Gilliam just being sort of
- 17:50Speaker 5: a Swiss army knife and a major part of it
- 17:52Speaker 5: that you know, kind of mitigates the need for like
- 17:54Speaker 5: a true backup tight end.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Just puts so much on Hunter Henry and I think
- 17:58Speaker 6: he's such an important part that was reinforced me watching
- 18:01Speaker 6: OTAs of you know, how comfortable Drake is throwing to him.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Clearly, you know, we'll see.
- 18:06Speaker 6: He didn't have a great end to last season, felt
- 18:08Speaker 6: like he was kind of tapering off. Maybe he was
- 18:10Speaker 6: a little banged up, but that's why, like John new
- 18:12Speaker 6: Smith I know it's John hu Smith and we kicked
- 18:14Speaker 6: him around plenty when he was here, But Faraol Brown
- 18:17Speaker 6: isn't going to really what they had like the one
- 18:19Speaker 6: trick play.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I remember they ran to him when he was here. Yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 1: right right, that was like there only.
- 18:26Speaker 6: But at least, like I can talk myself into if
- 18:29Speaker 6: Hunter Henry went down that John Smith could maybe contribute
- 18:31Speaker 6: a little something in the offense.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I you know, I don't know what.
- 18:34Speaker 6: It will look like with I mean Josh was here
- 18:36Speaker 6: with him, right, so, I mean he knows him a
- 18:37Speaker 6: little bit. But it's just such a drop off between
- 18:41Speaker 6: Hunter Henry reliable veteran that you know, Drake trust to
- 18:45Speaker 6: you know, now if Farrell Brown is your number one
- 18:47Speaker 6: because Veritance not ready, Like that's that's a big, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 6: big black hole there at the time.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Said they're gonna get another Yeah, what direction do you go?
- 18:58Speaker 5: Like is it a body they are they adding a
- 19:01Speaker 5: camp body or are they going out and making an addition.
- 19:04Speaker 6: That's why I'm like, if you're gonna get Peryl Brown
- 19:06Speaker 6: just the block, It's like, well, was that really the
- 19:07Speaker 6: best use of resin of what Julian Hill did?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what he.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Was saying for he wasn't going to do much more
- 19:13Speaker 3: than that, Yeah, but I think probably better.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Than yeah, right, and like more dynamic, like Farah Brown
- 19:19Speaker 5: is gonna put his hand in the dirt and block,
- 19:21Speaker 5: you know, as an inline tight end they're hoping. I
- 19:23Speaker 5: think that Julian Hill was going to bring sort of
- 19:25Speaker 5: a unique flavor to that. I I just look at
- 19:29Speaker 5: that spot in the edge spot as the two spots
- 19:31Speaker 5: where they had a plan, and now it seems like
- 19:34Speaker 5: the plan is maybe there's some cracks in the plan that.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That happens every year somewhere, right, And.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Obviously Hill's injury, but at least with Hill and with
- 19:42Speaker 5: tight end, like somebody got hurt. It's like you know,
- 19:46Speaker 5: you knew, you know, going into training camp that that
- 19:49Speaker 5: spot is missing a guy you were planning on having.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Whereas that edge, like you don't you don't necessarily one
- 19:55Speaker 5: hundred percent know if Landry and Akis are going to
- 19:58Speaker 5: be the guys you want them to be, but you
- 20:00Speaker 5: can you can find an answer for the fact that
- 20:03Speaker 5: Pharaoh or that Julian Hill got hurt. Yeah, you know,
- 20:07Speaker 5: like you see that like it's just the.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Fear of Hunter Henry getting hurt.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I feel like, is you know what I mean, Like,
- 20:12Speaker 6: if Hunter Henry doesn't get hurt, they'll be fine.
- 20:14Speaker 1: They can figure they're gonna.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Go four wide, deuce y Maat, Collin's gonna play tight
- 20:18Speaker 5: end right problems.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Like you know, they got enough.
- 20:21Speaker 6: Lomu can play a little if they need to make
- 20:23Speaker 6: him the you know, the third tackle, that kind of
- 20:25Speaker 6: thing with Gillian.
- 20:26Speaker 1: They have some options.
- 20:27Speaker 6: Westover has been in the mix, but it's just there's
- 20:29Speaker 6: a lot on Hunter Henry I feel like. And that
- 20:31Speaker 6: speaks to the overall team of going back to the
- 20:34Speaker 6: point of if they stay as healthy as they stayed
- 20:36Speaker 6: last year, they'll be great. But I don't think it's realistic.
- 20:39Speaker 6: I think that they're gonna stay that already aren't and
- 20:41Speaker 6: they're gonna be really tested in some of their death
- 20:43Speaker 6: and in some ways I'm wondering because I remember last
- 20:45Speaker 6: year the conversation was they didn't really have much depth.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I kind of feel the same way.
- 20:49Speaker 6: I mean, maybe an offensive line, you know, with with
- 20:51Speaker 6: the tackles, you're building a little depth there, but.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Like running back, not a lot of depth.
- 20:56Speaker 6: You know, on the defensive side, linebacker, cornerback, not a
- 20:59Speaker 6: lot of proven depth behind the top two safeties if
- 21:01Speaker 6: one of those two guys gets hurt, you know, And
- 21:03Speaker 6: so I just they got to be better in the
- 21:05Speaker 6: draft in these coming years and rounding out that depth.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I give them a lot of credit
- 21:10Speaker 3: for doing it as quickly as they have. So now
- 21:12Speaker 3: we're sort of getting greedy because I agree with everything.
- 21:14Speaker 3: You don't have a number three tight end, Yeah, I
- 21:16Speaker 3: mean I agree with everything you said. Like I think
- 21:18Speaker 3: the offensive line to me is a house of cards.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I mean, you have a guy who's played half of
- 21:21Speaker 3: the games that he's been eligible for, and you are
- 21:24Speaker 3: completely relying on him to solidify that area in Vera
- 21:29Speaker 3: Tucker Vera Tucka. You know that that's supposed you know,
- 21:35Speaker 3: that's also supposing Jared Wilson's better at center, you know,
- 21:38Speaker 3: so it can easily pull a thread and unravel on you. Yes,
- 21:43Speaker 3: you are much more equipped with a rookie first round
- 21:46Speaker 3: pick to serve as your your third guy there somewhere.
- 21:50Speaker 3: And I think you could play guard too. I mean
- 21:51Speaker 3: we've seeing him trying to cross train him a little
- 21:54Speaker 3: bit during mini camp, so maybe he can fill in
- 21:57Speaker 3: at left guard just as well as as Ben Brown.
- 22:00Speaker 3: You know, but you can see where you know, not
- 22:03Speaker 3: a lot has to happen for you to feel differently
- 22:05Speaker 3: about the state of your team.
- 22:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and I mean and maybe maybe to not defend them,
- 22:10Speaker 6: but you know, just the other side of the corner
- 22:12Speaker 6: being a little optimistic about it is that you know,
- 22:14Speaker 6: they did lose Mill Williams last year, they did lose
- 22:16Speaker 6: Roberts Splain for a little bit and it wasn't as good,
- 22:18Speaker 6: but they still found a way to piece it together
- 22:21Speaker 6: and you know, guys stepped up like a Jack Gibbons
- 22:24Speaker 6: or you know this. So that gives me some encouragement
- 22:26Speaker 6: because last year they got some solid performances from death
- 22:30Speaker 6: guys that you know, you weren't really expecting, defensive.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Line Gibbons being one, you know, uh, Chucky Trees.
- 22:35Speaker 6: You know, like they did get some contributions from some
- 22:37Speaker 6: death guys. I just want to see how those guys
- 22:40Speaker 6: develop and what kind of noise they make in training
- 22:42Speaker 6: camp to say, is there you know, is there anything
- 22:44Speaker 6: in any of these guys that they've you know, the
- 22:47Speaker 6: cornerbacks that they've drafted in the late day three, anybody,
- 22:50Speaker 6: is anybody going to emerge and you.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Know, show us something that that's surprising and exciting.
- 22:54Speaker 5: But that part of the like because I do feel
- 22:56Speaker 5: like we're being a little bit pessimistic, like that part
- 22:58Speaker 5: of the roster is like this is conversations of whether
- 23:02Speaker 5: or not they're gonna win the super Bowl, Like this
- 23:03Speaker 5: isn't like conversations you're not gonna win ten games Like
- 23:07Speaker 5: this is like you know, if they don't have a
- 23:09Speaker 5: good second tight end, then like you know, maybe a
- 23:12Speaker 5: matchup in the playoffs is going to be right back
- 23:14Speaker 5: to like yeah, you know because they come because O'Brien
- 23:18Speaker 5: would make fun of me and Andy Hart at the combine.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know how you guys do it, but they.
- 23:24Speaker 6: Like a little bit like I'm sure Ellie Wolf is
- 23:26Speaker 6: sitting in his office right now looking up at the
- 23:27Speaker 6: depth chart on his board, thinking the exact same things
- 23:30Speaker 6: that we're talking about, wondering.
- 23:31Speaker 1: How can we get better at this position? What kind
- 23:33Speaker 1: of player do we need? Do we have enough?
- 23:35Speaker 7: You know?
- 23:35Speaker 6: And that's you know, you're always thinking in that way
- 23:37Speaker 6: of how do they get better?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Where are the holes? Where is the depth?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Always building?
- 23:42Speaker 1: Always?
- 23:43Speaker 5: I mean me and do stay up and I thinking
- 23:44Speaker 5: about these things. Guy probably never sleeps.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I'm pretty depth charts out. You know, I don't sleep.
- 23:51Speaker 3: It's just not because of that.
- 23:53Speaker 4: All right, So there's some football talk for you. Any
- 23:57Speaker 4: summer movies that.
- 23:57Speaker 3: You're looking forward to, A nice little segue.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Going to any anything who goes still goes to the movies.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I went to well, I went, we saw Star Wars,
- 24:07Speaker 1: went to that. I see that one.
- 24:09Speaker 2: You don't go.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Fine, there's like a couple of ones just not a
- 24:13Speaker 5: big movie goer person, but there's a couple.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Of movie going like, yeah, she doesn't really like.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 24:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm interested. I I love Christopher Nolane, love all
- 24:29Speaker 6: his stuff. I'm a little bit I don't know. I'm
- 24:32Speaker 6: a little scared that this is that this is gonna
- 24:34Speaker 6: not really But you like Christopher.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Nolan, Yeah, yeah, no, it should be Goodopher Nolan doesn't no,
- 24:43Speaker 3: I know, right, I mean I find as an Iliad
- 24:47Speaker 3: and yeah, yeah, yeah, no interest.
- 24:49Speaker 2: But his movies.
- 24:50Speaker 4: You don't like the historical recreations even in their mythology.
- 24:54Speaker 3: No, I just don't have much interest in that one.
- 24:56Speaker 3: That was long, Matt Damon long stuff.
- 24:59Speaker 5: I think it is going to be long.
- 25:00Speaker 2: It's supposed to be like three plus hours, really three.
- 25:03Speaker 5: Plus hours you can, you know, versions it's we're not
- 25:08Speaker 5: doing it day by day, you know, maybe it's home
- 25:11Speaker 5: or I have to like I have to save, like
- 25:15Speaker 5: you know, our movie theater experiences for something that's really
- 25:18Speaker 5: important about disclosure. Yeah, I've heard good things about that.
- 25:22Speaker 5: I don't I'll probably watch that sometime and streaming. I'm
- 25:24Speaker 5: interested disclosure.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Is this front was Disclosure Day?
- 25:31Speaker 2: Spiel Day?
- 25:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so I heard of that one. No, I
- 25:34Speaker 3: don't apply.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'm gathering.
- 25:37Speaker 4: I guess it's the day that they disclosed to the
- 25:38Speaker 4: public that yes, we're not alone.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I probably wait on that one. I am
- 25:43Speaker 6: excited to see this new theater though, that they're putting
- 25:45Speaker 6: in next door to us. They get a lot of matinees,
- 25:48Speaker 6: they got a lot of recliners and all that, you know,
- 25:51Speaker 6: drinks and everything.
- 25:52Speaker 3: It's the news. Go to the movies.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I do once in a while.
- 25:55Speaker 4: There's a little place down the street called Heritage Theaters,
- 25:59Speaker 4: which I called the Alex from the Seinfeld episode. You know,
- 26:03Speaker 4: when Kramer was involved with that little theater that they
- 26:06Speaker 4: were storing the Alex Theater, I remember, and I had
- 26:10Speaker 4: a museum on the second floor.
- 26:12Speaker 2: You don't remember.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I don't remember that one.
- 26:13Speaker 4: And Kramer ate the hot dog and got sick. They'd
- 26:17Speaker 4: been sitting there for like decades. You don't remember that
- 26:20Speaker 4: one Helene lost her button and she had her thing open.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Oh I do remember that. Yeah, I remember that that.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I'm trying to think the last movie. I don't even
- 26:34Speaker 3: gone to the movies very often, probably like Top Gun Maverick.
- 26:38Speaker 3: It was the last time I went.
- 26:39Speaker 2: To Well that was the first movie everyone went to
- 26:42Speaker 2: after COVID.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but it was the last time I was actually
- 26:46Speaker 3: at the movie theater.
- 26:47Speaker 6: I think, if it's visually exciting, like I saw Star
- 26:50Speaker 6: Wars and three D went to see you know, Top
- 26:52Speaker 6: Gun Maverick, Like you know what I mean, if there's
- 26:54Speaker 6: a reason I feel like I need to see it
- 26:55Speaker 6: on a big screen and have that kind of experience,
- 26:57Speaker 6: then I'll do.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I still like going to the theater.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I do enjoy the experience. I just
- 27:01Speaker 1: don't do it.
- 27:02Speaker 5: I feel like that, you know, I didn't go to
- 27:05Speaker 5: the theater to see Oppenheimer and I watched it on
- 27:07Speaker 5: my iPad on the plane and like it definitely the same.
- 27:10Speaker 5: I was like, yeah, like I probably this is probably
- 27:13Speaker 5: a mistake, Like I was a.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Too dramatically, Like I'm sure if you were home on
- 27:18Speaker 3: a sixty inch screen, maybe I don't know, you got it,
- 27:22Speaker 3: like that's its cave. It will be fine, but you
- 27:24Speaker 3: watch it.
- 27:26Speaker 5: Most of my on the plane, Yeah, most of my
- 27:28Speaker 5: movie watching happens on just not a big movie person,
- 27:31Speaker 5: So most of my movie watching things happen on the plane.
- 27:35Speaker 3: You got to watch silly movies on planes that you
- 27:36Speaker 3: don't have to necessarily hear every single line of dialogue
- 27:40Speaker 3: to understand what's going on.
- 27:41Speaker 5: Well, that's a big problem. Is really more like the
- 27:44Speaker 5: new Like you can't watch a movie that like that's
- 27:46Speaker 5: really you know, shows too much, so I gotta be
- 27:49Speaker 5: careful of which ones I pick.
- 27:51Speaker 2: You know, you see the earth Winded Fire doc yet
- 27:53Speaker 2: I did?
- 27:54Speaker 3: Did you like it? It was okay? Just okay, it
- 27:57Speaker 3: was okay. I thought our colleague a show a little
- 28:00Speaker 3: bit higher on the overall. I love earth winding Fires,
- 28:02Speaker 3: you know, and I enjoyed the documentary. I think he
- 28:05Speaker 3: was a little higher on the dock than I was.
- 28:07Speaker 3: But I was a little disappointed just to see how
- 28:10Speaker 3: how much of a jerk Maurice White it was. Rest
- 28:14Speaker 3: in Peace, Yeah, like.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Is what's his name, the guy that used to call
- 28:23Speaker 4: all the time. Was he involved with Maurice White or
- 28:26Speaker 4: was that Murice Starr.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Murray Starr, Mury Starr, Yeah, okay, yeah, baby love ye Yeah, yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 3: it was. It was good. I mean, if like it's
- 28:37Speaker 3: that's right in my wheelhouse. I was very interested. I'm
- 28:39Speaker 3: I'm always when I watched those kinds of documentaries of
- 28:42Speaker 3: like like Billy Joel the Eagles, like this a handful
- 28:45Speaker 3: of Beg's was a really good one. I'm always interested
- 28:49Speaker 3: in sort of the chronology of the creativity, you know,
- 28:54Speaker 3: what leads to what and how it all comes about.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Like Let's Groove is I've Said to You a Million
- 28:59Speaker 3: Times is my favorite song of all time. It was
- 29:01Speaker 3: kind of an accident, like they got it from the
- 29:05Speaker 3: husband of one of the women that were in the
- 29:08Speaker 3: emotions and the emotions you know best of my love
- 29:11Speaker 3: Oh I know the song. Yeah. So like one of
- 29:14Speaker 3: those guys they wrote, he gave them like four songs
- 29:16Speaker 3: and Let's Group was one of them, and it kind
- 29:19Speaker 3: of bridged the gap for them from like the seventies
- 29:22Speaker 3: like funk disco kind of you know into the eighties
- 29:26Speaker 3: with a lot it was you know, more like drum machine,
- 29:29Speaker 3: you know, you know that kind of stuff.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Do you like hearing song coming together?
- 29:33Speaker 6: Like?
- 29:33Speaker 1: Is that they had that kind of footage?
- 29:34Speaker 3: No, And that's why I was got a little disappointed
- 29:36Speaker 3: with the documentary in general. This was more of a
- 29:38Speaker 3: just kind of a character piece on Maurice White than
- 29:41Speaker 3: it was about like the actual making of the music.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I love that stuff.
- 29:44Speaker 6: That's what I loved about that Beatles Dock was when
- 29:46Speaker 6: you see them sitting around like trying to figure out
- 29:48Speaker 6: the song.
- 29:49Speaker 1: You're like, that's not it, Paul, come on, like you
- 29:50Speaker 1: know that, you.
- 29:51Speaker 6: Know, coming up with the lyrics and pitching different things,
- 29:53Speaker 6: and it's like songs you already know, but.
- 29:55Speaker 3: That that you'd really like. Mike, did you ever watch
- 29:57Speaker 3: the yacht Rock documentary? Yeah, so some of the stories
- 30:00Speaker 3: with Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald Christopher Cross are just
- 30:05Speaker 3: mind blowing, Like how they came up with some of
- 30:07Speaker 3: those You.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Can hear it doesn't sound quite right yet, you know,
- 30:10Speaker 1: I love it. I love that stuff, but.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Yeah, the creative process. All right, thanks for bringing that up. Fred,
- 30:16Speaker 3: You like I did enjoy that? Uh? It was? It
- 30:19Speaker 3: was good, I would say good, not great.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Okay, eight five five past five hundred is the Hotline
- 30:25Speaker 4: podcast at Patriots dot Com. Is the email, so you
- 30:29Speaker 4: can use either one to get in touch with us.
- 30:32Speaker 4: It's whatever you want to talk about today because the
- 30:35Speaker 4: team is off, but we keep working so we have
- 30:38Speaker 4: to keep bringing it always. But we need your help.
- 30:42Speaker 4: So let's go to the forest brought. Let's go to
- 30:45Speaker 4: the phones. We'll see what Sam in North Carolina, what's
- 30:48Speaker 4: on your mind?
- 30:48Speaker 2: Sam?
- 30:50Speaker 8: What's going on?
- 30:51Speaker 2: Hey?
- 30:56Speaker 8: Hey Evan, I know, I know you've been keeping up
- 30:58Speaker 8: with it. I prefer Isaiah Evans selfishly. How to do
- 31:04Speaker 8: you know what I'm saying? The dude the flamethrower. I
- 31:06Speaker 8: think it'd be great in the system that ju miszooa
- 31:08Speaker 8: left the room. I don't know how long jum mazoo
- 31:10Speaker 8: is going to be in Boston, But who who, who
- 31:14Speaker 8: do you want out of the draft?
- 31:15Speaker 4: Would have suit it?
- 31:16Speaker 6: And I appreciate it.
- 31:18Speaker 2: All right, thanks Sam.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Celtics pick late. They're trying to trade up in the draft,
- 31:22Speaker 5: I think, but they picked like twenty seventh or something
- 31:25Speaker 5: like this, So it's pretty hard to say without knowing
- 31:29Speaker 5: who's gonna go.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Well, aren't they if they get Giannis. Aren't they going
- 31:32Speaker 2: to lose that pick.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Probably if they trade the pick? Yeah, yeah, yeah so
- 31:36Speaker 5: but they right now they I think as it goes
- 31:39Speaker 5: by a regular season record for some reason.
- 31:41Speaker 4: It's somebody upstairs who's really tuned into the NBA that
- 31:44Speaker 4: says he thinks it's it's gonna happen.
- 31:47Speaker 5: I know who you're talking about, and I really tuned
- 31:49Speaker 5: into the NBA as a stretch.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Wow wow wow wow.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Okay, all right, yeah, I should have witnessed seven. Talking
- 31:59Speaker 6: to Browley today, was you know, Bradley.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Bradley Bradley is our resident Nick fan.
- 32:04Speaker 5: I gave I said congratulations to him. That was big
- 32:06Speaker 5: of me.
- 32:07Speaker 3: That was congratulated him on the title, and then spent
- 32:09Speaker 3: the next ten minutes telling them why that that was meaningless.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I just thought it was great, it was vintage.
- 32:15Speaker 5: They waited fifty three years, and then like, it's not
- 32:17Speaker 5: even the most important sporting event that's going on right now.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Wow, you really are?
- 32:22Speaker 5: So they just like, yeah, they just got totally upstaged.
- 32:25Speaker 5: It was like, Oh, everybody's celebrating the Knicks, but there's
- 32:28Speaker 5: also just all these like meanwhile, Bill's.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Still celebrating the easy path championship that the Celtics had.
- 32:35Speaker 4: I haven't heard that one before, I know, but like
- 32:39Speaker 4: you know, that's what happens when you is what it is.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, thank you Sam. Let's go to d
- 32:45Speaker 2: C herms there. What's up, herm?
- 32:49Speaker 9: What's going on?
- 32:50Speaker 5: Then?
- 32:50Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 32:51Speaker 10: Hi?
- 32:52Speaker 11: I'm doing well.
- 32:53Speaker 12: I'm enjoying the weather.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 9: So two quick questions. My first question is about gave
- 33:01Speaker 9: Agis and given the position he plays, but obviously it's
- 33:06Speaker 9: not ideal for any young guy to miss any type
- 33:09Speaker 9: of time, right, especially not when it comes to manetar
- 33:12Speaker 9: mini camp. So if he happens to miss a little
- 33:16Speaker 9: bit of training, camp is maybe less punitive for him
- 33:19Speaker 9: given a positioned place, right, Because I think Mike alluded
- 33:23Speaker 9: to the next last time, I think last week, because
- 33:27Speaker 9: ultimately he's probably told listen, stand right here, beat your
- 33:31Speaker 9: man and get to the quarterback, right. So maybe I'm
- 33:35Speaker 9: thinking about it too simplicit, but I guess my first
- 33:39Speaker 9: question is is it best punitive for an edge Russia
- 33:43Speaker 9: to miss time compared to like, obviously any other position.
- 33:46Speaker 9: And my second question is, in the spirit of the
- 33:50Speaker 9: World Cup, if you guys were to be tasked to
- 33:55Speaker 9: fix soccer in America? Right, how would you go about it?
- 34:00Speaker 13: Because I think overall there's more like a pay to.
- 34:05Speaker 9: Play system in place that sort of eliminates really people
- 34:10Speaker 9: who can't really for the sport, but not necessarily the best.
- 34:14Speaker 9: The best athlete, right obviously play a sport. So those
- 34:19Speaker 9: are the two questions that have taken off the air.
- 34:21Speaker 9: Go black Stars.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Okay, So what exactly was the question with soccer?
- 34:27Speaker 3: How do you fix?
- 34:28Speaker 1: How to fix it?
- 34:29Speaker 4: So very qualified to be so if we're saying it's broken,
- 34:33Speaker 4: it's it's because they're not getting enough people watching.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Is that why it's broken?
- 34:38Speaker 3: He's talking about developing? Why is the United States what
- 34:41Speaker 3: we borderline Top twenty instead of like among the powers
- 34:45Speaker 3: in the world developing?
- 34:46Speaker 4: You because I think that our kids play more sports,
- 34:51Speaker 4: and it's the talent is split up more. I think
- 34:54Speaker 4: in other countries there's like maybe three major sports that
- 34:59Speaker 4: if you're in athlete, you play one of those three sports.
- 35:02Speaker 3: The vast majority of the world, it's soccer, soccer, soccer, soccer, soccer,
- 35:07Speaker 3: maybe basketball, Like that's how it goes virtually everywhere in Europe,
- 35:12Speaker 3: well virtually everywhere in Latin America.
- 35:14Speaker 4: It depends in the country. Like if you're in India,
- 35:16Speaker 4: it's cricket, you know. If you're in Switzerland it's skiing,
- 35:19Speaker 4: you know. So each country has their other sport. But
- 35:22Speaker 4: in soccer, yeah you know what I mean.
- 35:24Speaker 3: But soccer is one.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Yeah, World Soccer's won and then there are another.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Best it's four. But I also don't know, probably lower.
- 35:32Speaker 5: I don't know if we.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Have no I know, I'm saying at best it's it's
- 35:37Speaker 3: more popular than hockey. Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:39Speaker 5: Have the knowledge from a coaching and development standpoint, uh,
- 35:44Speaker 5: to properly develop the kids that do want to play
- 35:47Speaker 5: soccer in this country that do want to focus on
- 35:49Speaker 5: that sport, whereas these other countries they're like kind of
- 35:53Speaker 5: saying the same thing, but like they're they're born into
- 35:56Speaker 5: it where they like they know how, Like we know
- 35:58Speaker 5: how to coach baseball, we know how to coach basketball,
- 36:01Speaker 5: we know how to coach hockey players, we know how
- 36:03Speaker 5: to coach football players. I don't think that we have
- 36:07Speaker 5: yet the youth and like sort of coaching chops to
- 36:11Speaker 5: properly do that.
- 36:13Speaker 3: That's why they are overseas. I think that's part of it. Yeah,
- 36:18Speaker 3: I think it's chicken or the.
- 36:21Speaker 14: Like the countries, it's very necessary. Like the only way
- 36:23Speaker 14: you're getting out of the country is to be a
- 36:24Speaker 14: pro athlete.
- 36:25Speaker 5: So you but like if you're if you even if
- 36:28Speaker 5: you said that, Like I understand what you guys are
- 36:31Speaker 5: saying that we break up our athletes even more, but
- 36:33Speaker 5: even if our if we had like a really athletic
- 36:36Speaker 5: I don't. I guess what I'm getting at is, I
- 36:38Speaker 5: don't think our issue in the United States and the
- 36:40Speaker 5: top level is that we don't have good enough athletes.
- 36:43Speaker 5: We don't have good enough soccer players. Right, those are
- 36:46Speaker 5: two different things. Yeah, Like I don't think.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Think if like Tyreek Hill was one of those better players,
- 36:52Speaker 3: I don't like, if you had that caliber of an athlete,
- 36:55Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think.
- 36:57Speaker 6: I just don't think it's part of.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Author he'd be great.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if you would. That's but that's
- 37:03Speaker 3: not because we don't coach it. We don't teach it.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Well, Okay, I see what you're saying. He wouldn't get
- 37:08Speaker 4: the competition in the coaching.
- 37:10Speaker 5: I don't think that the issue for the current uns
- 37:13Speaker 5: US men's national team is that the guys aren't athletic enough.
- 37:16Speaker 5: They're not fast enough, they're not strong enough, they're not
- 37:18Speaker 5: big enough. That's not the issue. The issue is they're
- 37:20Speaker 5: not talented enough.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Well, he's not going to have enough.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Thing.
- 37:22Speaker 2: But here's what's changing a little bit.
- 37:24Speaker 4: Manchester, United has an academy here in the United States.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Real Madrid has an academy in the United States right now.
- 37:33Speaker 5: Right But I think, you know a lot of that
- 37:35Speaker 5: is maybe US bringing in foreign people to run those things.
- 37:39Speaker 4: It doesn't matter who's running, And my point is it does.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Maybe maybe the next generation of kids are going to
- 37:45Speaker 4: get that.
- 37:45Speaker 5: I hope so. But I just think that that's the difference.
- 37:48Speaker 5: Like I don't think that like you know, Chris Richard
- 37:51Speaker 5: or Christian Polisic or Weston McKinney or any of these
- 37:54Speaker 5: guys are less physically gifted in terms of athletic raw
- 37:59Speaker 5: athleticism then the other players in the world. They just
- 38:03Speaker 5: don't have the touch, they don't have the accuracy, they
- 38:05Speaker 5: don't have the skill, the precision, Right, So how do
- 38:08Speaker 5: you kind of go out and develop that? Now, this
- 38:11Speaker 5: US men's national team is probably the most skilled team
- 38:13Speaker 5: I've ever seen in my lifetime, but even still, like
- 38:17Speaker 5: we make the quarterfinals, we're going to be happy. So
- 38:20Speaker 5: like we're still and that's just the top team, that's
- 38:23Speaker 5: not the you know, everybody underneath it too. So I
- 38:25Speaker 5: think it's a little bit of a chicken or the
- 38:27Speaker 5: egg thing. But like the way we develop talent, like
- 38:31Speaker 5: we're we're really really good at developing basketball players, Like
- 38:35Speaker 5: we know how to shot mechanics, passing, seeing the floor, dribbling,
- 38:41Speaker 5: all the skills that go into playing basketball. Do we
- 38:43Speaker 5: know how to do that in soccer the way the
- 38:46Speaker 5: Europeans do or the South Americans do.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Probably.
- 38:48Speaker 6: I just think there needs to be a want, and
- 38:50Speaker 6: it's there's no want from the majority of the population
- 38:52Speaker 6: in the United States to you know, in the town
- 38:55Speaker 6: in Europe where you're going to go and everyone's playing
- 38:57Speaker 6: soccer and it's the most competitive sport and everyone is
- 39:00Speaker 6: trying to be better than everyone else. Here, there's a
- 39:02Speaker 6: lot of different options. It's just not a part of
- 39:04Speaker 6: our fabric. And I don't think there's an answer to
- 39:07Speaker 6: this question. How do you make soccer part of the
- 39:09Speaker 6: fabric of America.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I don't think you can.
- 39:11Speaker 2: It's just too many other things.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's my point.
- 39:14Speaker 6: You know, hockey is part of the fabric of Canada.
- 39:18Speaker 6: And you look at you know, our our you know,
- 39:20Speaker 6: other countries across the pond looking and saying, well, how
- 39:22Speaker 6: do we get to be like Canada?
- 39:23Speaker 1: How do we make get good at hockey? You can't.
- 39:26Speaker 1: This is part of who their country is.
- 39:27Speaker 6: Everyone wants to play hockey, kids out on the farm
- 39:30Speaker 6: in Saskatoon, to you know, people in Toronto and Montreal.
- 39:34Speaker 6: Everybody wants to play hockey and that makes everybody better
- 39:36Speaker 6: and it feeds everything.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Everything saying the same thing though, because like the fabric,
- 39:41Speaker 5: and part of that is knowing how to coach it
- 39:43Speaker 5: and knowing how to develop it and knowing how to fight.
- 39:46Speaker 4: But look at baseball, why are these small countries in
- 39:49Speaker 4: South America? Why, you know, relatively speaking, the percentage of
- 39:54Speaker 4: people coming out of there is much greater than in
- 39:56Speaker 4: America because they all play.
- 39:59Speaker 2: It's what they do.
- 40:00Speaker 4: The kids play baseball all day long on dirt, but
- 40:05Speaker 4: they get good.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 5: I think a lot of kids around in the United
- 40:08Speaker 5: States do play soccer. In fact, probably too much, like
- 40:11Speaker 5: a lot of these like the U Soccer now, like they're.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Playing, but they're not getting coaching.
- 40:17Speaker 3: And then that's what I'm saying that's what I'm saying.
- 40:19Speaker 3: I don't think it's that, but I do. I think
- 40:22Speaker 3: they they had an academy in the nineties, Like did
- 40:25Speaker 3: they talk about Like Mike just brought up hockey with
- 40:27Speaker 3: the like the US development you know, national development team,
- 40:31Speaker 3: which I think is kind of coincidental that we won
- 40:34Speaker 3: the gold medal. Like, I don't think it's because of that,
- 40:36Speaker 3: but you know, if you could convince me otherwise, maybe
- 40:40Speaker 3: you're right. I think they've tried these things. I think
- 40:44Speaker 3: unless you get I think Mike hit it like the fabric.
- 40:48Speaker 3: I'm not talking about strict athleticism. I'm talking about the
- 40:51Speaker 3: caliber of player you are. And I'm sorry. We don't
- 40:55Speaker 3: send our best. We send the best that want to
- 40:58Speaker 3: play soccer. And in this country, that's a very like
- 41:01Speaker 3: you're well down the list of of your athletes, whatever
- 41:05Speaker 3: they're in, you're well down the list of soccer players,
- 41:09Speaker 3: and around the rest of the world, the vast majority
- 41:11Speaker 3: of the world, you're sending your very best. So that's
- 41:14Speaker 3: bridging the gap in terms of the population differences in
- 41:17Speaker 3: some of these countries, because that's all they want to do.
- 41:20Speaker 3: But but even then, I think if that's all we
- 41:22Speaker 3: wanted to do. Give us ten years and we would
- 41:24Speaker 3: be we'd be a.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Top five team, the Tyreek Hills of the world.
- 41:27Speaker 6: Playing throughout his youth and playing against people who are
- 41:31Speaker 6: just as fast as him.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Maybe you know, and now he becomes.
- 41:34Speaker 6: And for me, it all starts with the desire of
- 41:37Speaker 6: the people who want to play at the ball desire.
- 41:39Speaker 3: I think it's a great world, and.
- 41:40Speaker 1: There are there are handfuls and pockets.
- 41:43Speaker 3: I think that's all.
- 41:43Speaker 2: I think that's all true.
- 41:44Speaker 5: But I think saying that Tyreek Killers would just automatically be better.
- 41:48Speaker 3: That's using him.
- 41:50Speaker 5: That was just a one off example. No, I'm not
- 41:52Speaker 5: saying him individually. I just hear that a lot.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Like as for example, Kobe Bryant was thought to be
- 41:56Speaker 3: one of the greatest youth soccer players when he was
- 41:59Speaker 3: growing up with his day in Italy. Imagine if he
- 42:02Speaker 3: played soccer, if he was that good, if he and
- 42:04Speaker 3: if he kept playing soccer, yeah, I mean he might
- 42:06Speaker 3: be talking about one of the all timers, like the
- 42:08Speaker 3: way we talk about MESSI and.
- 42:10Speaker 5: I mean we we knew, we would know. There's no
- 42:12Speaker 5: way to prove you wrong or right. So like I
- 42:14Speaker 5: can't argue with That's why I said, Mike, I just
- 42:16Speaker 5: think't feel like we get I hear that a lot
- 42:18Speaker 5: from people around here that like, well, if like we
- 42:22Speaker 5: took every athlete from that was you know, because soccer
- 42:25Speaker 5: is not really typically a sport where the taller is
- 42:28Speaker 5: not a tall people sport.
- 42:29Speaker 4: Like basketball, except yeah, tell that to Holland.
- 42:33Speaker 5: But but like Holland and slots on and those guys
- 42:36Speaker 5: are all tall.
- 42:37Speaker 2: But here's the thing.
- 42:38Speaker 4: We have three hundred and fifty million people in our
- 42:40Speaker 4: country and we're not as good as countries who have
- 42:43Speaker 4: a tenth of what we have. Yeah, there's a reason why,
- 42:46Speaker 4: because the best athletes play soccer.
- 42:49Speaker 2: And it's that's not the case.
- 42:50Speaker 3: That's like everybody, it's like everything else. I think that's
- 42:53Speaker 3: part of it. I think what Evan's talking about is
- 42:55Speaker 3: part of it. What Mike's talking about. It's it's there's
- 42:57Speaker 3: never one thing, no, never one thing.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Point is in those countries, Soccer is it.
- 43:03Speaker 2: It's soccer is life.
- 43:05Speaker 5: But if you look at it, but you look and
- 43:07Speaker 5: it's not here and I know it's only one game,
- 43:08Speaker 5: but if you look at the way that they played
- 43:12Speaker 5: on Friday night against Paraguay, you know, poach their coaches
- 43:16Speaker 5: is really really good. And he gave them organization, he
- 43:19Speaker 5: gave them structure, he gave them a way to play,
- 43:21Speaker 5: like a system to play in. And that's the best
- 43:24Speaker 5: game the US men's national team has ever played at
- 43:26Speaker 5: the World Cup. And all it took was one really
- 43:29Speaker 5: really good coach putting together a team that actually made
- 43:33Speaker 5: sense on paper, in a system that actually made sense
- 43:36Speaker 5: for their skill set, and they played one of the
- 43:38Speaker 5: best games they've ever played in a hundred years. So like,
- 43:41Speaker 5: if you'd done that, you know, he's just one guy.
- 43:44Speaker 5: He can't go and coach every single kid in America.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Like he's only coaching the national team. But like, I
- 43:49Speaker 5: think that we have enough talent that if it was
- 43:52Speaker 5: you developed and used correctly, we would be competed and.
- 43:54Speaker 2: To to kind of play your side of the street.
- 43:58Speaker 2: You know, you have a you have kids.
- 44:00Speaker 4: I had a kid, You have kids, And you see
- 44:04Speaker 4: as they grew up, they gravitated to the things that
- 44:07Speaker 4: they had the most success with, the things that they
- 44:10Speaker 4: found their own aptitude, and those are the things that
- 44:13Speaker 4: they they were willing to practice because they were seeing success,
- 44:17Speaker 4: whether it's a musical instrument or sports or whatever. And
- 44:21Speaker 4: so you can make the argument that the best soccer
- 44:24Speaker 4: players in America are playing soccer because at an early
- 44:28Speaker 4: age they were exposed to different sports and they decided,
- 44:31Speaker 4: I'm best at soccer. I'm going to keep playing it. Yeah,
- 44:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna keep playing I'm gonna.
- 44:35Speaker 5: Choose so and more like this team that they put
- 44:38Speaker 5: together for this World Cup is supposed to be the
- 44:42Speaker 5: best that we've ever had.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Well, but to finish my point, so you can make
- 44:47Speaker 4: the argument we are we do have the best soccer
- 44:50Speaker 4: players playing soccer, but they're not as good as across
- 44:54Speaker 4: the sea's because they're not getting the right coaching and
- 44:59Speaker 4: they don't get the type a competition that these other
- 45:02Speaker 4: kids get when they play.
- 45:03Speaker 2: And we know that competition makes you better, rising makes
- 45:06Speaker 2: you better.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think a lot of it's you know,
- 45:09Speaker 5: it's the same lines is just like they just know
- 45:12Speaker 5: how to play the sport. It's in the it's it's
- 45:14Speaker 5: ingrained in them, the natural instinct.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Of how to play this sport.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Yes, and you know to the fabric thing, I don't
- 45:20Speaker 5: think that that the IQ.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Yeah, like I think we'd be better, Like you only
- 45:24Speaker 3: need to score a goal.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Right, It's not We're not great, but we are getting better.
- 45:32Speaker 6: From you know, from my perspective being you know, an
- 45:35Speaker 6: official with USA Hockey and having done that now for
- 45:37Speaker 6: almost you know, ten years, you get training every year
- 45:41Speaker 6: and you see the direction that USA Hockey is going. Now,
- 45:44Speaker 6: it's not the complete same decision thing because hockey is
- 45:48Speaker 6: more popular here and there is, especially in the Northeastern
- 45:51Speaker 6: and you know, Minnesota, Michigan, there's a large percentage of
- 45:54Speaker 6: kids who that want to play hockey. And it does exist,
- 45:56Speaker 6: like I said, where everybody's playing hockey. They're playing all
- 45:59Speaker 6: these leagues there making each other better. But it's been
- 46:01Speaker 6: interesting to see how USA Hockey from that perspective, is
- 46:04Speaker 6: trying over the last few years to change their style
- 46:08Speaker 6: and to you know, to get rid of the dump
- 46:10Speaker 6: it back in and you know, tag up off side
- 46:12Speaker 6: so that teams have to regroup and they have to
- 46:14Speaker 6: move the puck more and you know, playing more into
- 46:16Speaker 6: the skill and trying to foster that. I agree with
- 46:18Speaker 6: Paul's point of yeah, just because America one doesn't necessarily
- 46:21Speaker 6: mean like these are all the policies starting.
- 46:22Speaker 1: To pay off.
- 46:23Speaker 6: But it's a little bit of a higher level conversation
- 46:25Speaker 6: where You're not like America where you're like in the
- 46:27Speaker 6: bottom trying to get up. You're you know, you're a
- 46:29Speaker 6: good team already, but you're trying to really get to
- 46:31Speaker 6: that elite.
- 46:32Speaker 3: My point was like, basically, when when you were saying,
- 46:34Speaker 3: like Canada they grew up and that's all everybody, you know,
- 46:39Speaker 3: there's no way you could be that just because the
- 46:42Speaker 3: US beat Canada doesn't mean that you're now better than them. No,
- 46:45Speaker 3: Like it's you know, no, and it's and it's.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Been even hockey is like a niche sport.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Though, Yeah, I'd be willing to say that there's there's
- 46:55Speaker 3: a lot of people that probably think soccer is higher
- 46:58Speaker 3: rank to than hockey. That's why I said it could be.
- 47:01Speaker 3: It could be for no, I'm talking about the US. Yeah,
- 47:03Speaker 3: like it's you know, it's certainly football, basketball, baseball, one, two, three. Sure,
- 47:08Speaker 3: I would say in popularity with with you know, the
- 47:10Speaker 3: athletes and the kids and whatnot. But there's probably an
- 47:14Speaker 3: argument that you could say soccer is even more popular.
- 47:16Speaker 4: So let me ask you this question, because I was
- 47:18Speaker 4: having this conversation with somebody about soccer. NFL is playing
- 47:24Speaker 4: more games internationally overseas. What would happen if the Premier
- 47:28Speaker 4: League decided to do the same thing and said and said,
- 47:31Speaker 4: we're gonna start playing not just friendlies, We're gonna play
- 47:34Speaker 4: our regular season games in the United States.
- 47:37Speaker 5: Because we because we they they play friendlies here. Yeah,
- 47:41Speaker 5: I know frequently, But it's the games that count.
- 47:43Speaker 2: The games that count, real games, I suppose for I.
- 47:46Speaker 6: Just the thing that's like getting to me is we're
- 47:48Speaker 6: now in year whatever since the MLS started, and people
- 47:50Speaker 6: are still talking about grassroots and trying to get people
- 47:53Speaker 6: get it into the fabric of the society.
- 47:55Speaker 1: At one point you say.
- 47:56Speaker 6: It's just something, it's a leap you can't make right now,
- 47:59Speaker 6: it's you know, I don't know.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I don't know what.
- 48:00Speaker 4: I'm not saying that Premier League would kill MLS if
- 48:04Speaker 4: they did that.
- 48:05Speaker 2: It's what I'm saying.
- 48:06Speaker 6: What are you saying, though, that getting a chance to
- 48:08Speaker 6: watch watch Premier League will get kids?
- 48:12Speaker 4: In other words, the hope that the NFL has by
- 48:15Speaker 4: doing what they're doing overseas the Premier League does here.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Do they care though? Does the Premier League Premier League
- 48:21Speaker 1: care about Maybe I don't.
- 48:23Speaker 4: They pay NBC on Peacock to have Saturday Mornings Like
- 48:27Speaker 4: I said, Manchester United has an academy over here.
- 48:31Speaker 2: They literally have an office in New York City.
- 48:34Speaker 1: So that's it's a thing for FIFA, as it is
- 48:36Speaker 1: for the NFL to get in.
- 48:38Speaker 4: For these brands, these teams to do to get our audience.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Of course it is. We're the richest economy in the world.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Why wouldn't they want to penetrate.
- 48:45Speaker 5: I think the biggest problem is that there's all every
- 48:49Speaker 5: four years, there's always a lot of excitement about the
- 48:53Speaker 5: World Cup here and international soccer in the US, but
- 48:57Speaker 5: there's no club like equivalent. So this was right now,
- 49:02Speaker 5: the Boston has got FIFA fever, man. I mean it is.
- 49:05Speaker 5: You go downtown right now and between the dudes in
- 49:09Speaker 5: kilts and the Norway fans now and the US fans,
- 49:12Speaker 5: and it's it's crazy. It's it's really fun. But it's
- 49:16Speaker 5: gonna go away. Yeah, And there's none events, there's nothing
- 49:19Speaker 5: to fill the spectacle, right and and so once the
- 49:22Speaker 5: World Cup is over, it's not like we're all going
- 49:24Speaker 5: to at no offense, going to be starting to go
- 49:26Speaker 5: to MLS games and like all of a sudden be
- 49:28Speaker 5: super into it. No, it just this is lightning in
- 49:31Speaker 5: a bottle, like, this is a very unique situation where
- 49:33Speaker 5: a lot of things are happening, where a host city,
- 49:36Speaker 5: the US team is competitive, Like, it's a lot of
- 49:38Speaker 5: things that are happening at the same time that are
- 49:41Speaker 5: allowing this to kind of take off.
- 49:42Speaker 3: That very last thing that Evan just said too, I
- 49:44Speaker 3: think is really important for how it's It's kind of
- 49:47Speaker 3: like World Cup fever right now. Don't discount the fact
- 49:50Speaker 3: that they played that game Friday night and it was
- 49:52Speaker 3: all my snark aside. It was a very atypical soccer game.
- 49:57Speaker 3: They come out and score three goals in the first half,
- 49:59Speaker 3: and they look like the They looked like a bunch
- 50:01Speaker 3: of peleys out there. It's like the greatest spectacle ever.
- 50:04Speaker 3: But that doesn't usually you get games like the game
- 50:08Speaker 3: that Spain had the draw with Cape verd And you know,
- 50:11Speaker 3: Spain is one of the greatest teams in the world.
- 50:14Speaker 3: They completely and totally dominated the game and they tie
- 50:19Speaker 3: zero zero. Sorry, nil nil.
- 50:21Speaker 5: It was one of the best zero zero.
- 50:25Speaker 3: But I'm saying, if that's what happened to the US,
- 50:28Speaker 3: if they got killed and couldn't generate any offense and
- 50:31Speaker 3: couldn't you know, they didn't I mean, Cape Verd didn't
- 50:34Speaker 3: even have possession of the ball the vast majority of
- 50:36Speaker 3: the game, let alone get any chances to score, and
- 50:40Speaker 3: it ends in a nil nil tie. You're not getting
- 50:42Speaker 3: this like everybody saw that. Everybody saw the US play
- 50:47Speaker 3: remarkably well, and they're like, wow, we can win this.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Now you get like the portnoise on board, like you know,
- 50:53Speaker 3: we're going to be the next World Cup champ and
- 50:55Speaker 3: this that. You know, they're all getting excited because they
- 50:58Speaker 3: saw that the impact it can have when you play
- 51:00Speaker 3: like that. A lot of people were watching. I think
- 51:02Speaker 3: it had like twenty seven million viewers. Perfect time. It
- 51:05Speaker 3: was nine o'clock on a Friday night. You know, it's
- 51:08Speaker 3: really good time slot. I think a lot of confluence
- 51:12Speaker 3: of events in a positive direction for US soccer happened,
- 51:16Speaker 3: you know.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Over the the question is is like what do you
- 51:18Speaker 5: how do you continue the momentum once the World Cup
- 51:21Speaker 5: goes away? Right, because it's really hard, Like I am
- 51:24Speaker 5: not invested in any other team like I am with
- 51:27Speaker 5: the US men's team, but the US men's team only
- 51:29Speaker 5: plays every couple of years like they so like, you know,
- 51:33Speaker 5: I don't know how you feel that void domestically in
- 51:36Speaker 5: terms of club team level to like give people the
- 51:39Speaker 5: same sort of feeling that they have right now. I mean,
- 51:42Speaker 5: you know that that game was like as somebody that
- 51:45Speaker 5: has followed it for a while now, like that was
- 51:48Speaker 5: like that was euphoric, Like I've never seen a US
- 51:50Speaker 5: team play that well before ever, and like they it
- 51:54Speaker 5: was incredible, Like it was incredible that to see them
- 51:57Speaker 5: do that at the World Cup and to do it here,
- 52:00Speaker 5: like to have it to do it on home.
- 52:01Speaker 4: So I think this is the first year that they
- 52:03Speaker 4: had forty eight teams.
- 52:06Speaker 3: It's helped, but it's also worked.
- 52:08Speaker 5: It's helped, it's helped in hurt, and it's hurt in
- 52:12Speaker 5: the fact that I think draws the.
- 52:14Speaker 4: Groups are some of them, but the group seven of
- 52:16Speaker 4: them Germany one seven to one Germany. Yeah, Germany big
- 52:21Speaker 4: teams are dominating Spain.
- 52:23Speaker 5: The groups are watered down a little bit, which I
- 52:25Speaker 5: don't like because it's it's it should be semi hard
- 52:29Speaker 5: to get out of the group, like not as like
- 52:31Speaker 5: a power, but like as a team like the US
- 52:33Speaker 5: usually has to scrap to get out of the group.
- 52:35Speaker 5: Now like they you know, they probably are going to
- 52:37Speaker 5: get out of the group pretty easily, so that it's
- 52:40Speaker 5: hurt that. But I think that we also are unique
- 52:43Speaker 5: in United States. It's a melting pot of different cultures
- 52:45Speaker 5: and different backgrounds and ethnicities, and allowing forty eight teams
- 52:50Speaker 5: in has allowed all of those people.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not saying, you know.
- 52:53Speaker 4: From that point, but I'm just saying from a strictly
- 52:56Speaker 4: results basis, you're seeing you know, the Argentinas and even
- 53:02Speaker 4: the US dominating because there's a lot of lower end
- 53:06Speaker 4: competition in this tournament right now that I.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Think there shouldn't be three first timers. Yeah, I think
- 53:13Speaker 3: there were three nations that are qualified for the first time.
- 53:16Speaker 5: And a bunch of one like you know, like Scotland
- 53:18Speaker 5: hadn't been in it since ninety eight. I don't think,
- 53:21Speaker 5: you know, Norway similar, So there's some of that going
- 53:24Speaker 5: on for sure. But uh, you know, they Paraguay I
- 53:27Speaker 5: think would have qualified probably anyway because they played really
- 53:29Speaker 5: well in the qualifiers. They actually beat Brazil and Argentina
- 53:32Speaker 5: in the qualifiers. Uh so out of South America. But
- 53:36Speaker 5: you know, I know, is Iraq in the World Cup
- 53:39Speaker 5: if there's not forty eight teams?
- 53:40Speaker 15: Like?
- 53:41Speaker 5: No?
- 53:41Speaker 4: Right, no, All, right, back to the phones, let's see
- 53:45Speaker 4: who is Oh this he's been hanging on the longest,
- 53:48Speaker 4: So I guess I have to go to Christian in La.
- 53:50Speaker 2: What's up Christian?
- 53:52Speaker 7: And you guys and you guys and you got three
- 53:55Speaker 7: quick things. But my second point I really want to
- 53:58Speaker 7: dial dial in on. Firstly, soccer. The way to fix
- 54:01Speaker 7: soccer is understanding this country and this culture. America is
- 54:04Speaker 7: an image based society, culture based society. So unlesson until
- 54:08Speaker 7: you create soccer heroes in this country that kids want
- 54:12Speaker 7: to be like and grow up to play like, you're
- 54:14Speaker 7: not going to have any significant investment or interest in
- 54:16Speaker 7: growing the game of soccer in this country, just because
- 54:19Speaker 7: we're all about image and you know, in this country,
- 54:22Speaker 7: it would help if we had a hero.
- 54:23Speaker 12: Yep, It's definitely the key to development, right.
- 54:26Speaker 7: We are a hero worshiping society in this country, especially
- 54:28Speaker 7: off sports heroes. Secondly, and this one, I want to
- 54:32Speaker 7: really dial on it because I've been thinking about this
- 54:33Speaker 7: for several days, but I didn't just want to come
- 54:35Speaker 7: out and stop something. But this is this is the
- 54:38Speaker 7: hard truth. Mike Rabel's job and Elliott Well's primary job
- 54:43Speaker 7: is to make this team better year by year. Mike
- 54:47Speaker 7: Rabel's job, especially with the draft. Even though you have
- 54:50Speaker 7: Elliott Wolf putting together things and making decisions, the buck
- 54:52Speaker 7: stops with Mike Brabel, and his job is to make
- 54:55Speaker 7: sure that the draft produces players that are going to
- 54:58Speaker 7: make this team better upcoming season. Mike Rabel blew this
- 55:03Speaker 7: draft because of his lack of focused distractions and his
- 55:07Speaker 7: bad decision and bad character for what he did. He
- 55:09Speaker 7: was not downs in on the draft. We wound up
- 55:12Speaker 7: in the draft getting a player with our number one
- 55:14Speaker 7: choice who primarily and possibly won't even play this year.
- 55:18Speaker 7: Our second round player is hurt and probably and primarily
- 55:22Speaker 7: won't play this year. Now, there is no way stand
- 55:25Speaker 7: up there and tell me that he did not blow
- 55:28Speaker 7: this draft.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Bau Rage.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Those guys turn out to be really good players, but
- 55:33Speaker 3: they just don't do it this year.
- 55:36Speaker 7: Looking from the outside end, and that's not the job
- 55:38Speaker 7: of the coach or the general managers. Their job is
- 55:41Speaker 7: to make the.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Team better this year with the That's not the job
- 55:45Speaker 3: of the draft. The job of the draft is draft
- 55:48Speaker 3: good player.
- 55:49Speaker 4: Everybody says you can't judge a draft until three years later.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I mean, so was Tom Brady bad draft pick because
- 55:54Speaker 3: he didn't do anything his rookie year, Tom.
- 55:57Speaker 7: Brady was not needed to make the team better.
- 56:00Speaker 3: But you're saying that these guys are not good draft
- 56:03Speaker 3: picks because they're not projected to play well this year.
- 56:06Speaker 3: I would push back on that. If they're good now,
- 56:09Speaker 3: you might be right. They might have blown the draft. Christian,
- 56:11Speaker 3: I don't know. You could be absolutely right, But I
- 56:15Speaker 3: don't think that Caleb Lovo is a bad pick because
- 56:18Speaker 3: he's not scheduled to start this year. Now, if he
- 56:21Speaker 3: never starts or he never becomes a really good player,
- 56:23Speaker 3: then they blew the pick like it is what it is.
- 56:27Speaker 3: But I don't think there's anything wrong with picking a
- 56:29Speaker 3: guy in the first round that you think is going
- 56:31Speaker 3: to be a starter, maybe in year two when your
- 56:34Speaker 3: veteran right tackle in Morgan Moses is probably going to retire.
- 56:38Speaker 3: I don't think there's anything wrong with that mindset, especially
- 56:40Speaker 3: at twenty eight. Yeah, I mean, I think I think
- 56:43Speaker 3: the Patriots have done that in the past with guys
- 56:45Speaker 3: like Nate Solder, and I don't think there's anything wrong
- 56:49Speaker 3: with that. I don't think that means that they blew
- 56:52Speaker 3: the draft.
- 56:54Speaker 7: The problem Tom Bradley was not a first round picks
- 56:58Speaker 7: out us.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Why I use k Lomo. He was the first round plick,
- 57:01Speaker 3: So if does well, I don't think that's a bad pick.
- 57:04Speaker 3: If he ends up being a good player, just because
- 57:06Speaker 3: he doesn't play in his rookie year doesn't mean they
- 57:08Speaker 3: blew the draft.
- 57:10Speaker 7: From the outside end, looking at on a draft, everybody's
- 57:14Speaker 7: primary focus of the draft is to try and get
- 57:16Speaker 7: better in the season coming. I know that there's continued season.
- 57:19Speaker 7: Maybe this guy's going to retire next year, and they
- 57:21Speaker 7: possibly won't be another lineman next year in the draft
- 57:24Speaker 7: that could possibly replace the right tackle.
- 57:27Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 57:27Speaker 4: It sounds a little bit, I know, but you know,
- 57:29Speaker 4: everybody hopes that every draft pick contributes like they did
- 57:32Speaker 4: last year.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think that's the goal that rarely happened.
- 57:37Speaker 2: That it rarely happens.
- 57:38Speaker 4: And like they needed they needed to tackle and they
- 57:41Speaker 4: were picking thirty one, you know, so like they also needed.
- 57:46Speaker 7: An edge player, they also needed a linebacker. They also
- 57:49Speaker 7: needed someone that could have contributed this year. Your second
- 57:52Speaker 7: round draft.
- 57:53Speaker 5: Piction, you can't player.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, all right, I love you. You have
- 57:58Speaker 2: one more point.
- 57:59Speaker 4: You said you had three points yet Soccer and Mike
- 58:01Speaker 4: Rabel what's your third point?
- 58:06Speaker 7: Point is that last point is that everybody was talking
- 58:10Speaker 7: about how the Spurs blew that twenty nine point lead,
- 58:12Speaker 7: and they were comparing it to the Patriots twenty eight
- 58:14Speaker 7: to six, and a lot of people came out and said,
- 58:16Speaker 7: there's no comparison, there was nothing in life. I think
- 58:18Speaker 7: what they were thinking was this, when the Spurs came
- 58:21Speaker 7: out with a twenty nine point league and for the
- 58:23Speaker 7: second half just continued to chuck up three point shots,
- 58:26Speaker 7: that was akin to the Falcons coming out with a
- 58:29Speaker 7: huge lead in the second half and deciding to keep
- 58:31Speaker 7: passing the ball instead. Is heavily committed to the run.
- 58:34Speaker 7: That's what people are talking about when they see the
- 58:36Speaker 7: comparison of twenty eight to three.
- 58:38Speaker 4: And also, well, I think you're right in the anytime
- 58:42Speaker 4: you have a huge comeback like that, both teams have
- 58:46Speaker 4: to contribute, right, Like you know, one team has to
- 58:48Speaker 4: start playing out of their heads and the other team
- 58:50Speaker 4: has to make some mistakes to help them. And I
- 58:53Speaker 4: think in both games, you're right that the Spurs did
- 58:56Speaker 4: things to contribute to that.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Loss, no doubt.
- 58:58Speaker 3: I don't have Aaron Fox.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Thanks Christian.
- 59:01Speaker 3: When Benyama missing two free toes in the last minute
- 59:04Speaker 3: of the game. Like, the Falcons didn't do anything that
- 59:07Speaker 3: approached that level of choke that when Benyama did in
- 59:10Speaker 3: that game.
- 59:11Speaker 4: They had a couple of bad decisions the Falcons which
- 59:13Speaker 4: were catastrophic.
- 59:15Speaker 3: They made some bad choice catastropholi and the Spurs made
- 59:17Speaker 3: bad choices throughout the second half, taking quick threes and whatnot.
- 59:22Speaker 3: But the absolutely like at the end of the game,
- 59:25Speaker 3: the execution at the end of the game, the Spurs
- 59:29Speaker 3: were way worse than the Felons.
- 59:30Speaker 4: And I would say, but if you're talking about the achievement,
- 59:33Speaker 4: I think the Patriots achievement to do what they did
- 59:36Speaker 4: was a tougher achievement than what the Knicks did.
- 59:39Speaker 5: Well, I mean the Patriots was a one game situation,
- 59:43Speaker 5: Like the Knicks could have lost that game and still
- 59:45Speaker 5: won the series.
- 59:46Speaker 2: I'm just talking about that one game.
- 59:47Speaker 3: That's what I think people have said. It's not the same.
- 59:49Speaker 3: It wasn't a winner take all situation. Right in terms
- 59:52Speaker 3: of the game itself, there was a million similarities, and
- 59:56Speaker 3: I think they were equally impressive. I don't know, I'm
- 59:59Speaker 3: back from twenty down that late Ah in basketball, you
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: know that guy. No, it doesn't happen. It never happened before.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: They were twenty nine in the first half.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: In the second half, yeah, they were up by like
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: twenty going in the fourth.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: The fourth quarter, they're still up by twenty. But it's
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: the biggest comeback in the history of the NBA playoffs
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: and the play It's never happened.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: But I've seen teams come from much further down in
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: regular season.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: I've seen teams come from more than twenty eight to
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: three in the regular season in the NFL.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: It's rare.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Yes, it is rare.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: It's very rare. It is very rare.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: But that's the only time it's ever happened in the
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: playoffs in the NFL, and it's the only time that
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: ever happened in the NBA playoffs.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the Patriots are a bigger tougher thing
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: to do tough. I don't know that could that could
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: be you know, achievement forget about. But in terms of
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: how tough is it, I.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: Think the Patriots had to do more things than the
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Knicks had to do. I think the Spurs game, I
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: think the Spurs gave them more help.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Yeaheah, Yeah, absolutely, I think.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: The Patriots did more to earn it than than the
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: Knicks did.
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: The narrow path they had, everything had, everything had to
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: go right, right.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: I mean, there's so many If you don't make this play,
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: it's over. And they kept making those mills.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I mean, I'm just thinking there's a million points, the
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: plays that you don't even remember in the game, like
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: third and ten from like their own ten yard line,
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: Like Brady throws an out to Hogan. That's just like ridiculous.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: You're always pumping up Chris Hogan branch out.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: No, that was that was pumping up Brady because it
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: was one of the sickest throws.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: In the corner, was trapping it to and he just
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: even the last Super Bowl that they had to run,
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: beating Kansas City in Kansas City for the AFC Championship,
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: so many things had to go the Patriots way in
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: order to win those down that category, you know, guys
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: being off side for Kansas City. But but but plays
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: that Brady made on third down, you know, you know
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: that was like you miss one of those and it's done,
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: it's over.
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: You know, I just, uh, I can't believe that Christian
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: is We're still doing the thing about Rabel, Like it's
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: like three months, dude.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: But like he his he's obviously got he's really mad
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: at Raabel for what he did, and that's he's like
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: that dude on Twitter. I just don't think that that's
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: the goal of every team in the NFL draft every year.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: We need to get better right now, right and if
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: we don't get better right now, we blew the draft. Now.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: That isn't the draft about the future.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: I think I think that teams that do it that
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: way are the teams that get themselves into trouble because
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: they're constantly drafting for immediate need and immediate impact, and
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: they often reach on players because you know, we really
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: need the uh wide receiver, we really need to tackle,
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: and you know, even though there's better players we're gonna
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: draft that.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: Wouldn't it stand the reason that you needed so much
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: help last year, so you drafted all those guys that
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: played right away and played well. Wouldn't it just be
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: natural to think I'm not going to need that many
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: guys to to do that the next year. That means
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: that means we blew it.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the dream, right, That's the dream, and the
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: dream is that you know we're drafting.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Because The Patriots blew a lot of drafts in the
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: Belichick era before he started really actually blowing.
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: In the height of the dynasty, there was a period where,
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: you know, the Patriots were drafting or bringing a gun
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: and it was tough to make the team. You know,
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: it was hard for a draft pick to contribute right
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: away because it was a loaded roster. Yeah, and we're
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: not quite there yet, but we're getting closer to that,
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: you know. So like last year, there were a lot
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: of opportunities for guys to contribute right away and a
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: need for them to do so. It's getting hopefully as
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: you get along here in this regime, that becomes less
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: and less.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: Yes, Now to the depth, if like Gabe Actors turns
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: out to be a bust, that's a bad pick. Yeah,
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: but not because like he's not ready to be like
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: a fifteen sack guy in his rookie year and make
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: a huge impact. But if he's not a very good player,
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: If Caleb Lomu is never a starting caliber tackle in
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: the NFL, there's a bad pick. You've blown the draft. Yeah,
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: Fish and will be right.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Aaron's in Louisiana. What's up, Aaron? Aaron And Louisiana going gone.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: How about uh, Sully in Connecticut? What's up, Sully?
- 1:04:03Speaker 13: Hey guys, what's going on? I listen for a long time,
- 1:04:06Speaker 13: I've never called in.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: All right, welcome.
- 1:04:11Speaker 13: So I will say this that I you know, I
- 1:04:13Speaker 13: was going to ask as a different question.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I will.
- 1:04:15Speaker 13: But on the soccer front, my wife and I both
- 1:04:18Speaker 13: coach soccer. We've been doing it for ten years. The
- 1:04:22Speaker 13: difference is that in the United States we have just
- 1:04:25Speaker 13: a different mentality of how that's all done. We are volunteers.
- 1:04:30Speaker 13: So if parents and you know, coaches being the volunteers
- 1:04:33Speaker 13: of their kids, we're Internationally, it's really structured where those
- 1:04:37Speaker 13: guys have multi year certifications and programs. So when you
- 1:04:41Speaker 13: look at the skill level and how these kids are
- 1:04:43Speaker 13: brought up, that's really the philosophical change between what we
- 1:04:47Speaker 13: see overseeing Sully.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Can I ask you, and this is asking because I
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: don't know my kids didn't play, you know, any of
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: the tra you know, like that kind of level of soccer.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: But club, yes, that was the word I was looking with.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Thank you. Club soccer programs are not like real coaches,
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: but people pay to be in a club and they're
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: not coached by actual coaches. They're just like volunteers.
- 1:05:12Speaker 13: Want to play in a club sport, that's you know,
- 1:05:16Speaker 13: club soccer, You're going to be spending a lot of money.
- 1:05:18Speaker 13: You have to try out for specific programs, and by
- 1:05:21Speaker 13: the time that that actually happens, you are already established
- 1:05:24Speaker 13: as a good soccer player within your community programs. It's
- 1:05:28Speaker 13: not something that you just push your kids into automatically, right.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: But I think you're talking about youth soccer in the
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: United States. They're just volunteers and parents and whatnot, as
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: opposed to what they do overseas, and I don't think
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: that's apples to apples. I think those are different programs.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Like youth soccer anybody of.
- 1:05:45Speaker 13: The United States model is really heavily relyingt on volunteer
- 1:05:48Speaker 13: parent coaches.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so, but I don't think that that's true. But well,
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: I think I think. I think there's a lot of programs.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: You know, again, I'm not familiar with them, but there's
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: a lot of programs up in our area that some
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: of my son's friends have been part of. I can't
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: imagine that they were coached by volunteers.
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: No. I think what he's saying though, is the little
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: town teams.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: Aren't you have a talent teams but I think don't
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: exist a lot in the rest of the world.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: You have to pay a lot of money to play
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: on those teams, whereas like a lot of these academies
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: in Europe, they actually recruit talent and a young age
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: at a young.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Age of yourself, jeez. They there's a lot of recruiting
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: that goes right.
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: But but they're recruiting them all to develop them into
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: Premier league players or to develop them.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: That's that's different. I'm just saying. I there's a lot
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: of travel basketball, there's a lot of club basketball, hockey
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: that Mike knows a lot about. But there's a lot
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: of plays. But there's a lot of recruiting that goes on.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: And if you're there, but we don't have your playing.
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: But we don't have we don't have the build like
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: we like. So like you know, you see kids like
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: overseas that at like ten twelve years old are signing
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: contracts with Arsenal or Manchester United or man City and
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: they developed them from twelve years old in hopes that
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: they are going to eventually play for Arsenal.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: We're arguing with two different things. You're arguing why the
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: US isn't as good as they should be. I'm saying
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: that there's no way that those teams that are recruiting
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: the players those programs, and I wish I knew all
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: the names of them. I don't, but like I can
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: tell you in baseball, there's a million programs and they're
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: not coached by someone's father some volunteer. They're coaches that
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: actually work for these programs and they get paid by
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: the programs. Oh yeah, Like it's not the way it works.
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: No, I understand what you're saying.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Now you can argue that they're not enough to what end. Yeah, right, Like.
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: We're developing our baseball players and our hockey players to
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: get into college, to go to D one, which they
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: could get you into the MLB or the NHL. Like here,
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: we're developing these soccer kids to go to college and
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: play D one college in the United States. That stinks.
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: It's not like, relatively speaking, compared to what the leagues
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: the kids are playing in Europe is not very good.
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: You're like, it's crazy, Like they taking these kids that
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: like they bring them to boarding school basically at like
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: ten twelve years old. And they live there and they
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: just like play soccer every like year round and they
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: train them.
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: And that's like what the hockey model is too with
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: the National Development Team. Same thing, Like they're taking kids
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: now that are going to live there and plan that
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: program and now that they're going to a cat they're
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: they're going out of these academies now academies.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Where it's actually accredited so they can go to school
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: there as well, which you know, go to school, but
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: they're there to play sports.
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, they're building out the hockey version of
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: this right now where it's not just going to be
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: the National Development Team. There's going to be a whole
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: league now that offers an opportunity. So I mean, I
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: just it's a great comp because I see with hockey,
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: hockey's closer to it in America, and you see how
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: top to bottom, you know, and not to get into
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: the coaching debate, but every coach from Mites on up,
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: you're going to a coaching seminar. You're you know, every
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: year you're getting resources to improve as a coach. I mean,
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: the Bruins do a thing, so you know, it's it's
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: the way hockey's doing it. You can see that's how
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: you get to the top. But it's just that's it's hard.
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: Cody's and Fresno.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: What's up, Cody, Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call.
- 1:09:11Speaker 12: So great offseason show so far. I'd love to get
- 1:09:14Speaker 12: on all these points. A couple of things I want
- 1:09:17Speaker 12: to talk on, and then a point I can bring up.
- 1:09:19Speaker 12: I have a young boy. We started off with soccer.
- 1:09:22Speaker 12: I feel like the barrier to entry is low. You
- 1:09:24Speaker 12: just get a ball and kick it around. But that
- 1:09:26Speaker 12: quickly got overshadowed by football, baseball, basketball, you know, the
- 1:09:30Speaker 12: great US sports here.
- 1:09:31Speaker 16: So I mean, I didn't even play baseball growing up,
- 1:09:35Speaker 16: but my son is. We got him a bat and
- 1:09:37Speaker 16: a glove and we took him out to the diamond
- 1:09:39Speaker 16: just this weekend and he had a great time, and
- 1:09:41Speaker 16: his interest is going there. But soccer's kind of left
- 1:09:44Speaker 16: by the wayside.
- 1:09:45Speaker 15: He sees his sports athletes, and he sees the culture
- 1:09:48Speaker 15: and everything that's on TV, and he wants.
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: To do what he sees.
- 1:09:51Speaker 12: So I think it's as simple as that.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: That's right, Yep.
- 1:09:55Speaker 12: The other thing I wanted to say is movies sant
- 1:09:57Speaker 12: to have young kids. I don't really see many.
- 1:10:00Speaker 16: Movies that aren't kids movies probably go to the Toy
- 1:10:02Speaker 16: Story five this weekend, which should be good.
- 1:10:05Speaker 12: Hope don't cryin yeah, I'll try not to.
- 1:10:10Speaker 13: Uh.
- 1:10:13Speaker 12: And the other thing I wanted to point to point
- 1:10:15Speaker 12: out or bring up, how do you guys feel about
- 1:10:19Speaker 12: names when it comes to sports players. Do you think
- 1:10:23Speaker 12: the greatest players their names are elevated obviously because of
- 1:10:27Speaker 12: what they've accomplished, or do you feel like people with
- 1:10:31Speaker 12: the great names, if you will go on to achieve
- 1:10:35Speaker 12: great things.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: What comes first the name or the player? I think yeah,
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: I think I think the player earns their names.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: So, like, who's the greatest Michael player?
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Well time, Yeah, Michael Jordan was Michael Jordans in Carolina,
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: but he became Jordan in Chicago.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: But I'm just saying that that's as like playing of
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: a name as you can get. He's the greatest player
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: we've ever played. Now, Like I think he's talking about
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: like first Lebron James, Like Lebron James. Is it like
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: he was probably destined for greatness with that name? You
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: know what Michael Jordan's I mean, come on, if you're
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: the average jove An, you can get I mean, if
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: you want to be with Carolina name your kids Jack.
- 1:11:11Speaker 15: Right, Yeah, if you look at all the greats, like
- 1:11:14Speaker 15: let's say Tom Brady, you know, obviously a simple name
- 1:11:18Speaker 15: if you will, but.
- 1:11:19Speaker 12: It's not a bad name.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: He turned his last name.
- 1:11:21Speaker 15: You think of Tom Brady, you know, he elevated that
- 1:11:24Speaker 15: name to gren Yes, Lebron James and Muhammad Ali's. And
- 1:11:27Speaker 15: then if you think about some great names on our
- 1:11:29Speaker 15: team currently, I think Drake Ma it's a solid name.
- 1:11:31Speaker 12: I think it's catchy.
- 1:11:32Speaker 15: I think it's rolls off the tongue, and I think
- 1:11:35Speaker 15: you could definitely see that, you know, elevating.
- 1:11:38Speaker 12: It's one of the great the greats.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think there's some great names of kids,
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: never good athletes too. I think it's you know, it's
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: just coincidence for the most part.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: I would agree that Polstone is a good name. I
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:11:52Speaker 12: But about our current draft class, any good names. Let's
- 1:11:55Speaker 12: stick out is a great name for Rugged his situation. Yeah,
- 1:12:01Speaker 12: I think his name is great. Probably you know, might
- 1:12:04Speaker 12: be hearing that more soon.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: All right, thanks, Cody, appreciate it. All Right, We're going

- 1:14:24Speaker 4: to play it right.
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: DraftKings is all about responsible game. It's more fun when
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: it's for fun.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: So played responsibly. DraftKings the Crown is.
- 1:14:31Speaker 10: Your scambling problem called one hundred twenty one plus.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Agent eligibility varies by jurisdiction.
- 1:14:36Speaker 11: Feels great.
- 1:14:36Speaker 19: Uh, I'm glad the weekend came because I settled down
- 1:14:40Speaker 19: and I got some resks, and you know, things are
- 1:14:42Speaker 19: starting to pick up for me really fast. And you know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 19: learn the playbook and I think I'm I'm in a
- 1:14:47Speaker 19: good spot going into the break what I learned about them.
- 1:14:54Speaker 19: The talent speaks for usself. You know, he can make
- 1:14:56Speaker 19: any throw. But I think what's more impressive to me
- 1:14:59Speaker 19: is that he knows what he's doing. And to to
- 1:15:02Speaker 19: be that young and to understand the defense and to
- 1:15:05Speaker 19: understand every little check that the hots, the bliss and
- 1:15:07Speaker 19: all those things so young and so fast, it's it's
- 1:15:10Speaker 19: very impressive. And so I really admire that he knows
- 1:15:12Speaker 19: what he's talking about. He demands everybody else to uh,
- 1:15:16Speaker 19: to know as well. You know, and he's a true leader.
- 1:15:18Speaker 19: It's a true leader of men. And it's and it's
- 1:15:20Speaker 19: crazy to see at a young age. You know, he's
- 1:15:23Speaker 19: he's a true leader of men.
- 1:15:24Speaker 11: So question about motivation, We'll ask him what's my motivation?
- 1:15:32Speaker 19: My motivation just come out here and just be the
- 1:15:34Speaker 19: best I can every single day, as simple as that.
- 1:15:37Speaker 11: How do you feel like the early connection is between
- 1:15:39Speaker 11: you and drink? And what are you find most effective
- 1:15:40Speaker 11: when it comes.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: To further development?
- 1:15:42Speaker 19: Now, it's just spending more and more time getting get
- 1:15:45Speaker 19: getting getting more reps. You know, we're still growing, you know,
- 1:15:49Speaker 19: I think things are off to a great start.
- 1:15:51Speaker 11: Do you feel at home?
- 1:15:53Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:15:53Speaker 11: Do I feel at home? Yeah?
- 1:15:56Speaker 19: I'm surrounded by a lot of Tennessee coaches and a
- 1:15:58Speaker 19: couple of Tennessee players, So yeah, you know, walking in
- 1:16:01Speaker 19: the building feels feels pretty good.
- 1:16:03Speaker 11: Yeah, kind of looks like you got a smile on
- 1:16:08Speaker 11: your Why not right? Yeah? To do this means everything.
- 1:16:13Speaker 19: Man, I get to do this, I'm I'm extremely blessed,
- 1:16:17Speaker 19: you know, and coming in the building each and every day,
- 1:16:19Speaker 19: you know, coming to to to try to be better
- 1:16:22Speaker 19: each and every day.
- 1:16:23Speaker 11: That's the only thing that's my only focus.
- 1:16:25Speaker 19: But you know, to playing for my favorite team, to
- 1:16:27Speaker 19: you know, being here around coach Brave and around other
- 1:16:30Speaker 19: teammates that I know, you know, it feels great.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: So you know, the.
- 1:16:36Speaker 19: Man, the talent is stacked. The talent is stacked, and
- 1:16:39Speaker 19: that's what you want. You want guys to push each other,
- 1:16:41Speaker 19: you know. Uh, we we talk about all the time
- 1:16:43Speaker 19: raising that standard, pushing each other, you know, and holding
- 1:16:46Speaker 19: each and everybody accountable.
- 1:16:49Speaker 11: The change that you.
- 1:16:52Speaker 19: They kept on, They just kept on, kept on asking
- 1:16:55Speaker 19: Pop just like come on, come on, And I'm like,
- 1:16:57Speaker 19: all right, man.
- 1:16:58Speaker 11: So I just walk in j.
- 1:17:01Speaker 20: From Philly about something that you signed on the wall. Yeah,
- 1:17:06Speaker 20: what the message was there? I'm not gonna getting into that.
- 1:17:09Speaker 20: You know, I appreciated my time in Philly. You know,
- 1:17:11Speaker 20: I'm where my feet are, so uh, that's the only
- 1:17:15Speaker 20: thing that matters, the most important.
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: To get squirted away, moving over, maybe even over these
- 1:17:20Speaker 9: next forty games.
- 1:17:22Speaker 19: Just continue to stop in that playbook more and more,
- 1:17:24Speaker 19: you know, getting comfortable moving around all different spots, you know,
- 1:17:27Speaker 19: so I could be available familiarity cross before you know,
- 1:17:36Speaker 19: being the league, you know, eight years now, some some
- 1:17:39Speaker 19: words and some rap concepts are you know, are the
- 1:17:42Speaker 19: general rape concepts. But you know, it's a lot of
- 1:17:44Speaker 19: unlearning things because some some words are the same. And
- 1:17:46Speaker 19: so I'm just trying to unlearned rules and relearn the
- 1:17:49Speaker 19: new rules. So you know, I think I think that's
- 1:17:51Speaker 19: the biggest housle, you know, and just being building that
- 1:17:53Speaker 19: uh those mental real teaching every day.
- 1:17:59Speaker 11: What are your room off the field?
- 1:18:02Speaker 19: Off the field, Yeah, it's it's it's hot and cold
- 1:18:08Speaker 19: in that room. You know, it's a lot of different personalities.
- 1:18:10Speaker 11: You know.
- 1:18:10Speaker 19: We have a great room, great chemistry already, you know,
- 1:18:13Speaker 19: and the guys just kind of feeding off each other
- 1:18:15Speaker 19: and joining each other and pushing each other, you know,
- 1:18:16Speaker 19: and most importantly, you know, we holding each and everybody accountable.
- 1:18:19Speaker 11: So that's all you really could care about.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 1:18:23Speaker 19: Uh, you can say that you know, it's still time,
- 1:18:27Speaker 19: still time for me to do so you know, Uh,
- 1:18:30Speaker 19: I'm just trying to be the best version of myself
- 1:18:32Speaker 19: each and every day.
- 1:18:33Speaker 11: You know, if I grow into that leadership role and
- 1:18:35Speaker 11: so be it. But I'm just trying to be myself.
- 1:18:37Speaker 11: And that's all.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: But you get together, break and all uh.
- 1:18:43Speaker 10: Things.
- 1:18:44Speaker 19: So passing, Yeah, that's the plan to try to find
- 1:18:47Speaker 19: some time to to try to build more and more.
- 1:18:50Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:18:51Speaker 19: Obviously we're gonna talk and uh do all those things,
- 1:18:54Speaker 19: but you know, most importantly, we gotta.
- 1:18:56Speaker 11: Continue to try to perfect that craft.
- 1:18:57Speaker 19: So here, Yeah, so I think Drake started on the
- 1:19:05Speaker 19: right side, but you know, he came back to me
- 1:19:07Speaker 19: a little late, and uh, he threw the balls the
- 1:19:10Speaker 19: back shoulders, a great, great ball, back shoulder, and I
- 1:19:12Speaker 19: just kind of turned my head, you know, obviously the
- 1:19:15Speaker 19: dB doesn't know where the ball is. So and my background,
- 1:19:17Speaker 19: you know, playing baseball and center field, you know, turned
- 1:19:19Speaker 19: over shoulder, looking over the shoulder. That's and it's a
- 1:19:22Speaker 19: tough catching. I'm just glad I got my feet down. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:19:27Speaker 19: uh huh No, it's not easy, but it's something that
- 1:19:31Speaker 19: we try to We try to drill, you know, at
- 1:19:33Speaker 19: least I try to drill as much as I can,
- 1:19:35Speaker 19: you know.
- 1:19:36Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:19:36Speaker 11: And like I said, I'm just glad I got my
- 1:19:38Speaker 11: feet down, you know, so shoulder since skateboard. What it
- 1:19:43Speaker 11: building that connection so important? What's important.
- 1:19:48Speaker 19: It's just building that time, having that time together, building
- 1:19:50Speaker 19: those reps, you know, thinking how you're thinking, playing, seeing
- 1:19:53Speaker 19: different looks, you know, most importantly, and just how you're
- 1:19:55Speaker 19: throwing the ball and where I need to be.
- 1:19:57Speaker 11: And I'm just trying to be where he wants me
- 1:19:58Speaker 11: to be. That's all schedule practice. Yeah, I don't know
- 1:20:03Speaker 11: if you can see the break in the background. Oh no, no,
- 1:20:06Speaker 11: he whoa, No, that's not okay. Nobody. Nobody should be
- 1:20:10Speaker 11: on the ground and practice. That's my rule.
- 1:20:11Speaker 19: If anybody is on the ground, that's a bad practice.
- 1:20:15Speaker 19: It doesn't matter who it is. Nobody should be on
- 1:20:18Speaker 19: the ground. But he delivered a great past. So that's
- 1:20:21Speaker 19: how I was excited. So I'm glad he's okay.
- 1:20:23Speaker 20: After having worked with him for three days or at
- 1:20:25Speaker 20: minimp because he you know what you what you bought
- 1:20:28Speaker 20: before you got here.
- 1:20:30Speaker 19: Yeah, he's most definitely man like. I was just bragging
- 1:20:33Speaker 19: on and talking, you know, talking to them up. I say, hey, man,
- 1:20:35Speaker 19: you like that. You know you can make any throat,
- 1:20:37Speaker 19: you know. I just want him to be confident, you know.
- 1:20:39Speaker 19: I was kind of pushing him today, you know. I
- 1:20:41Speaker 19: told him, I want you to be perfect today. He
- 1:20:43Speaker 19: was like, let's be perfect. I said, don't don't worry
- 1:20:45Speaker 19: about anybody else, just focus on yourself.
- 1:20:47Speaker 11: You'd be perfect.
- 1:20:47Speaker 19: You're gonna raise that stundard and everybody else will follow.
- 1:20:50Speaker 19: So just trying to just poke at them a little
- 1:20:52Speaker 19: bit and see how far you go, you know.
- 1:20:54Speaker 11: But uh, he's a great player, you know, and I'm
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: excited for the season. How'd you feel the offensive today?
- 1:21:00Speaker 11: If you're chasing perfection today, Uh, it was some good
- 1:21:04Speaker 11: and bad.
- 1:21:04Speaker 19: There's always some improvement, always, there always room for improvement,
- 1:21:07Speaker 19: you know, and that's what you want. You don't want
- 1:21:08Speaker 19: to come out here and just completely dominating and then
- 1:21:10Speaker 19: you have to worry about the defense.
- 1:21:12Speaker 11: So so hass off to them for making players as well.
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: So there's a lot of talking out there.
- 1:21:17Speaker 19: That's what you want, Yeah, that's what you want, because
- 1:21:19Speaker 19: then you know, the real dogs come out. Yeah, real
- 1:21:22Speaker 19: dogs come out of play. But all the talking is
- 1:21:24Speaker 19: just talking. You gotta play at the end of the day.
- 1:21:26Speaker 11: So if you can back it up, I don't care, Bart,
- 1:21:29Speaker 11: do what you gotta do, you know.
- 1:21:31Speaker 19: Always, always I'm gonna get the last live against Christian Guns.
- 1:21:38Speaker 19: Oh yeah, yeah, Guns o, man a great player. You know,
- 1:21:41Speaker 19: hopefully everything works out. You know, I'm excited to get
- 1:21:44Speaker 19: some work between him and c D and the other guys,
- 1:21:46Speaker 19: but Guns most definitely.
- 1:21:47Speaker 11: Man, I'm ready to go.
- 1:21:50Speaker 19: Against them so we can push each other, you know,
- 1:21:52Speaker 19: get in the live together, because obviously that's that's good
- 1:21:54Speaker 19: on good, you know, and it's very small for very
- 1:21:57Speaker 19: little room for a mistake, So you know, I love
- 1:21:59Speaker 19: going against I was like that, you know, because those
- 1:22:01Speaker 19: are my matchups.
- 1:22:02Speaker 11: Those are my matchups, and I'll shut away from those.
- 1:22:03Speaker 11: So get the practice against him and CD. That's what
- 1:22:06Speaker 11: you want, you know.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: And now, great moments in.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: History, but that's my point. They didn't.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: I think Levy was cut the wave there. He had
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: a great team, great person you know, great players. They were.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Who sorry who unnecessary one forever that came out of nowhere.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: They were, they were loaded.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: We get that on post on post.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: All right back here in Patriots and filtered eight five
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: five pasts, five hundred podcasts at Patriots dot com is
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: the email address. Lots of calls, lots of emails. Uh
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: Nicks in Boston. Sorry to say, Paul's very wrong about soccer.
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: Having our best athletes play the sport is not why
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: we aren't great.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: Evan is right.
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: We need kids to be developed and coached better the
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: best soccer players of all time, as Messi, who was
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: five to seven and needed medications when he grew up
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: to even get to five seven. Having the ball at
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: your feet from a young age, street soccer every day
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: after school, et cetera, is the difference.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the people might be right.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: I'm not. I'm not going to tell soccer experts their
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: their business could be right.
- 1:23:25Speaker 5: You cannot you coach Messi's first touch though, man like
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: that ball gets to his feet and.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: I look at that guy and I see an exceptional athlete.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: That might be I might be crazy when I say that,
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: but I don't really care how tall he is. I
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: see an exceptional athlete.
- 1:23:38Speaker 11: But you have to like that.
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: You have to admit, with the number of kids in
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: this country, if soccer was our number one sport, we
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: would dominate with the number of people, just people.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: In this country.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Why do we say things like no, if our culture.
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: What I'm saying is if our because because of just
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: the numbers game. If our was the same as as
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: Europe in terms of our attitude towards soccer and the
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: coaching that they got, because we have more people, we
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: would be better.
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: Maybe. I don't know.
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: I hate when people what you're you're the analytics guy, right,
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: it's the odds are But like there's such a like
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: we would be the best we want to.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, just because of numbers, not because we're better humans.
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: It's going to be you're going to find out just
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: because of.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Number we have three hundred and fifty million people.
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: I agree, I understand that, but I think that other
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: countries hear us say stuff like that and they want
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: to punch us squarely in the jaw.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: They want anyway we start making more babies. I mean
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: they know they Yeah. Now the counter argument the best
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: at everything.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: Now, the counter argument is China should then be that
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: was my thing is why you know, the Asian country,
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: but they got a lot of other things going against
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: them over there.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: I do think that, like slowly but sure, because you
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: know part we had to call her call in and say,
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: like the athletes that you know you watch on TV,
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: that's what and that's one hundred percent true. I think slowly,
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: like social media has shrunk the world a little bit,
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: so it's easier for kids to see Arling Harlan play
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: for Manchester City because they're seeing him on TikTok and
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: stuff like that. Like he's like his uh social media
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: presence is gigantic. He's super famous on the apps, you know,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: and like literally like that you know I have or
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: like man City are like Killiammbape, like like you heard
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: him like these guys that like now they're everywhere, like,
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: so you know, that could help because you're not gonna
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: maybe like people will look up to like Christian polistic
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: maybe but like they're not going to look up to.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: Him, you know other people.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: But and the other thing Christian said, which you know,
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: like growing up, what's the payoff to be a great
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: soccer player in this country? There's a big payoff to
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: be football, basketball, all hockey, baseball.
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: But there's That's why I side with Mike's points. Yeah
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: about the fabric, Yeah, I mean the fabric here. If
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: you want to be a star, you want to be rich,
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: like people play soccer here with the goal of probably
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: getting some money to go to college. Right, I can
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: get a scholarship if I'm really good the Southern Connecticut Yeah,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: I mean, I know, I mean scholarship, like real scholarship.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: You know, people, I mean this this good college soccer
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: and the sound, but pales in comparison to academies around
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: the world.
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: What they're playing in to my my cousin's husband, Miles Joseph,
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: he's the one who coaches for the Charlotte Football Club
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: and the MLS. He played in the MLS. He has
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: been a lifelong MLS coach. Both his kids went on
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: to play at Rutgers in Indiana college soccer.
- 1:26:42Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: So it's like to me, it's a small example of
- 1:26:44Speaker 6: like in a contained setting where soccer is really important
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: to this family and the dad played and everything, like
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: the kids went on to play college soccer, and you know,
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: so it's no different than really any other sport when
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: you know, when people are.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: Invested in right, you know, and love it and their life,
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: you know and love.
- 1:26:59Speaker 6: I just think the biggest element to me is you've
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: got to be surrounded by people who do that. And
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: you know, I feel like growing up playing hockey in
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: Massachusetts or people who aw up playing hockey in Minnesota.
- 1:27:08Speaker 6: You're surrounded by people who are awesome and talking about
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: NHL and it makes you want to be better and
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: you want to play the summer leagues against those good
- 1:27:16Speaker 6: players so you can be you know. So it's just
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: I think it's a it's like one of those snowball
- 1:27:19Speaker 6: things where once you get going, everybody that's chick totally.
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: Like the fabric thing to me is a really good
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: point like that. I feel like for our kid kids,
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: you know, in America, like things like throwing a football,
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: shooting a basketball, like those are just like instinctive natural
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: things that were taught at such a young age. I
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: don't know if like soccer, yeah, like I don't know
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: if that that's the same for that sport you know,
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: you know, shooting a puck you know at a net,
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: and for hockey plays like that stuff that you're doing
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: at like as like a todd.
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: What's what's the first sport that you play, not organizationally,
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: but like even with your friends.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: What's the do you remember what the free.
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: Hockey you play?
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: Backyard baseball? I mean I learned to play baseball in
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: the backyard. That was in street hockey. I like, I
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: said a tip tooth from it.
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: But that was one thing I said to Paul was
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: seeing my kids play youth baseball, and I'm like, does
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: anyone know how to catch a freaking pop fly? Like
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: all these things, like these little rules that we learned
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: just playing in.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: The backyard together. I feel like my kids, least some.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: Kids and this and this is why, like I think
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: the email is right to like call me out because
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: I'm using a very simplistic reason. Now I believe in it,
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: and I'm not just making it up. I'm not trying
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: to be controversial. I believe in my reason, but it's
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: a very simplistic answer. It's way more complicated from the
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: stuff that Evan's talking about with the grassroots and the
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: training and the coaching and the level of competition to
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: the fabric. But like you just hit on a fundamental
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: thing that Fred and I talk about all the time.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: Kids do not play sports anymore unless it's an organized sport.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: Like I can't tell you how many times, like I would,
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: I've like little league baseball practice. When was the last
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: time you played, well, Saturday, Well, I was that last game?
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: Like you haven't played since then?
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: I played everything instantly every day. Whatever we were playing,
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: we played it every day. I'm not telling you I
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: played baseball every day, because some days we played basketball
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: or street hockey or whatever.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: They just in the backyard, like learn how to run
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: the bases playing pickles.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: Do not play. They don't play, they don't practice, they
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: don't play. And it's not because we did that. But
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: it's not because we were better. I'm not This is
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: not a like oh, but there's a lot of different
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: sociological factors that come into play as to why that
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: doesn't happen anymore. Like Fred and I grew up in
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: an era where you went out at eight o'clock in
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: the morning and your parents were lucky if they saw
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: you by six or seven o'clock that night, and it
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: was okay because the world was a lot different then.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: You can't do I wouldn't let my kids do that
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: when they were eight, nine, ten years old. I literally
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: left the house on a Saturday, and I would get
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: in trouble all the time because I didn't hear it
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: from you all day. Where were you. I was playing baseball.
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: I'm the stadium.
- 1:30:07Speaker 11: Good for you.
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: I think I remember the exact moment I quit soccer, though,
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: is I because I played a lot of soccer growing up,
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: youth hockey. Youth soccer in Holliston's huge. They always have
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: a huge tournament there when I would meet people. But
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: I remember I had a hockey game in the morning
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: and it was like late spring, and you know, played
- 1:30:22Speaker 6: a hockey game.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: Was like when I was really good at hockey in
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: youth hockey.
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: And then we got to.
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: Soccer and it was outside and it's hot, and I'm
- 1:30:29Speaker 6: running around and I'm just like this.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: Hot this sock. He's always been preoccupied with the weather.
- 1:30:35Speaker 6: Well, you go from the rink, you know, and you're like,
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: because I always love how you're in a cold rink
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: but you're sweating, you know, so like you have a
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: quick you.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: Know what I mean.
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: Like you're always in a good opportunity your area, and
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: you know it's like a kid thing where you're playing
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: multiple games in the day and I just remember being
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: on the soccer field being like, I think I'm done
- 1:30:50Speaker 6: with this, Like I'm all set with running.
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: I stopped from soccer because I had no like hand
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: eye coordination, decent.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: With the foot not I never played ilayed.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I played a lot my sisters played through high school.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: They were both like on you know the state team
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: that you know, all that stuff, But you know, it.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: Wasn't you know, it wasn't a big youth sport when
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: I I don't even know if we had youth when
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: I was in New Jersey.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: I was in the first team when they started the
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: league in our town and by the time wasn't because
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: Pele well he was years later. I played an all
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: Star game at Randall's Island where Pale was so but anyway,
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: By the time I left New Jersey and after seventh grade,
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: soccer was booming. But I was literally in second grade.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: That was the first year that they had a league
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: or teams in the whole area, not just our town.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Yeah, in my town too. I mean, it's probably just
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: more of a suburbs thing, but it was, Yeah, it was.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: It was a huge deal growing up.
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: Justin a deuce is probably the best answer out of
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: all the arguments. Americans are tuned into the four major sports,
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: and that's been part of our fabric for generations. If
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: you want to build a widespread American interest in soccer,
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: then you're going to need to build up that interest
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: in the culture for generations, and that's not going to
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: be easy.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: So I think it could happen.
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: I think it's happening, and slowly.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: Oh I don't think. I think Fred and I have
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: been talking about Fred and I have been if we
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: could tell you the same thing that you just said,
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: we had the conversation in nineteen seventy three. It's happening.
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: It's happening. On board, it's happening. But what I would
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: say is, if the ground swell continues to get rid
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: of the contact sports, if they succeed. If football goes
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: away and hockey goes away because of the concussions and
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: all everything else that goes Yeah, I'm telling you you're
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: going to start to see a change because they're going
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: to be They're going to look for other sports.
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: Yeah. I don't think that it's coming in the sense
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: of like popularity. I think this is the most talent
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: that we've had at the national level on the US side,
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: and I think that's a pretty overwhelming consensus that that's
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: that this team.
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: I couldn't possibly argue with you.
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: I know that they are fielding this cycle is the
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: most talented from top to bottom that we've ever had.
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: I mean, I hear what you're saying, because, like to
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: Fred's point, we're a big enough country that even if
- 1:33:25Speaker 6: it's not part of the fabric that there should still
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: be enough athletes that you're able.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: To grow if you have the right system in place
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: and coaching.
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: And that's you know, the point I'm making about USA
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: hockey is that there's a you know, there's a full
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: vision from the top down of how do we get
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: our team to win Olympic gold medals and World Cups
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: and all that stuff. I don't know if soccer has that,
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: and from the color, it doesn't sound like it's certainly
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: not to like the basic town youth soccer, which I
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: don't know if all that needs to be under an
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: umbrella where we're trying like desperately to develop every because
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: there should be there should be fun sports.
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: There should be fun you perfect fun school.
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: I think that that's a like in other countries soccer
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: is the fun sport because they just play it in
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: the streets.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: They don't they don't, but I don't play. I think
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: what ever, I mean, what Mike's talking about is like
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: you shouldn't just have it be like, if you want
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: to play soccer, you got to be serious about it.
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: You gotta sign up. There should be youth soccer where
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: people just want to play. Like I think one of
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: the best basketball leagues that my kids played in it
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: was just like the local youth pbody basketball league. It
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: was the PBA they used to call it, and they
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: had You know, my older son was a pretty good
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: basketball player and he played in all kinds of travel teams,
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: all kinds of AAU teams, and he played in high school.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: He liked it, yeah, but he loved playing in the PBA.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: It's just a different and there should always be those
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: avenues for anybody who wants to play.
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: And that's where I go back to not liking that
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: part of what hockey's at right now. There's it's impossible.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: You know, my son when he was like eight nine
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: years old and we moved back here and he hadn't
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: had that youth hockey, It's like you're already behind. There
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: isn't just a league where it's okay to stink, It's
- 1:34:58Speaker 6: okay to go out there if you don't know how
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: to skate backwards. We're just going to pick up hockey
- 1:35:01Speaker 6: and play. And that's you know, goes back to your
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: point of house. But you know, we used to meet
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: on half days after school and go play hockey on
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: the lake, you know where we'd play street hockey and
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: we had a we made our own Stanley Cup and
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: we you know, so it's just I think there needs
- 1:35:14Speaker 6: to be a balance between having kids sports leagues that
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: are just for fun and to learn and be part
- 1:35:20Speaker 6: of a team and learn how to lose versus all right,
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: this is part of the system, and now you're going
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: to be on a trajectory that you better be going
- 1:35:26Speaker 6: to the Olympics.
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: I think that's probably like what the caller I think
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: called in and mentioned like that. That's a lot of
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: the criticism of US soccer is that is that the
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: only way to.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Play it to you're all in.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: You're all in. It's year round.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: It's thousands of dollars and like entry fees and stuff
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: like that for club teams, and it's like your life
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: and that's it's either that or it's nothing. So and
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: there's no there's no.
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: Get the money, because that's a huge thing. Yeah, but
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: isn't it like that around the world, Like, if you're
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: going to be in that, don't you have to be
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: immersed in it. I don't think around.
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: Because I think that around the world there's a lot
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: like they just play in the streets in the field.
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: They just have one person has a ball and they
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: show they all show up to the field and they
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: play soccer all day long like that.
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: But the elite that's how they put they all that.
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: But that's eventually those kids get noticed and then those
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: kids get pulled out and they get put into these
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: academy and.
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: They don't have to pay for that.
- 1:36:22Speaker 10: No.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: No, that's why I said take the money out of
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: him because I obviously, you know, I understand like a
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: lot of the travel stuff, a lot of the club
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: stuff here it's pay you know, And I'm sure it's
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: not like that worldwide, right.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: And those elite kids, they it's all paid for them.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Yeah, But then it becomes it's corrupt.
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: I mean there's things like in hockey where you know,
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: I'm reffing a showcase and you're like, I don't know
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: who you're showcasing. Any of these crappy players too. You
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: know they're all paying, but like five hundred bucks a game.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: You know, Lebron James didn't pay to play for the
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: AAU team, So you know, when you're elite, like so
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: I think that we're like sort of confusing, like see
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: with Mike orso.
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: You know, well, but all these people that were seeing
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: on these teams, they were the elite.
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: They were the elite, right.
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: And those guys don't have to pay, no, no.
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: But like here in the US, like you know, Lebron
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: James played for Saint Vincent Saint Mary High School in Cleveland,
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: and he was the number one pick in the NBA
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: Draft and that was good enough that that his high
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: school was good enough to get him directly to the NBA,
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: Whereas like in soccer, we don't have that, Like our
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: high school is not good.
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: Like our high school, we don't have level. We don't
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: have that level of soccer.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: And once you're in college, it's too late, you're too old.
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: Like you know, Messi's in his sixth World Cup because
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: he played in his first one as a teenager. So
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: like you know, once you are in your twenties in college,
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: you're too.
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: Old, right, you know. It's whatever happened to Freddy Ado?
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: Yeah he flamed out.
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he was supposed to be the next big
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: thing for the MRS at fourteen.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: Yeah, that's they do a lot of That's how they
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: do it over there, Like could guys make their debuts sixteen, seventeen,
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: eighteen years old? Sometimes younger?
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: Like, yep, crazy, let's see back to basketball. Anthony says,
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: I'm a diehard Patriots and Knicks fan. Wow, and Evan
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: is crazy, except thanks for chiming in, Brad.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: Evan is crazy.
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: To say the Knicks win wasn't even as important as
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: the World Cup is outrageous. The entire kidding, the entire
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: state of New York is in jubilation and unified in
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: a way I've never seen it. You can hate the Knicks,
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: it's understandable, but you should be objective about the win.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: It's the most, if not the most dominant runs in
- 1:38:40Speaker 4: NBA playoff is.
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: Okay, it's a very dominant ru It was a dominant
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: sixteen ths in.
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: The history of the NBA. We name a better one,
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: the Lakers and the like two thousand. I think when
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: sixteen and O did they Okay, no one ever did,
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: like sixteen and one or something like that.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: Okay, so two more wins and it was closed.
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: Yeah, But like they also, like, we have to compare
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: competition level competition, sixteen and three is sixteen.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: And they had a great run.
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: And what more do you want me to say?
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: I was obviously say that.
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: I was kidding about the world, all right, I'm so sensitive.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: Jeff and Canada has a hodge Podge of sports thoughts,
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: three of them.
- 1:39:19Speaker 21: One.
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: I don't follow soccer all the time, but the World
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: Cup is pretty dawn entertaining, okay, two wall defending twenty
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: eight three is way harder than what the Knicks did.
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: From what I've seen. That is the popular opinion of
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: sports fans three. Brady and Messi are very similar in careers,
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: both of established goats who seem never dropped off their
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: entire career. Yeah, okay, who's a bigger goat? Messi or Brady?
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: I'd say Messy.
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: It's because worldwide, it is a more international sport.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: So you're talking about popularity popularity. Who's the biggest Messie?
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: I mean I would say Brady's a bigger goat? Why
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: because football?
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Because it's football contact. But considering that didn't even get
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: it out.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: But considering soccer has been played for as long as
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: it's been played, and it's played all over the world,
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: isn't it harder to be the goat in soccer than.
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: It is in football? Yeah?
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: You could probably make that argument. I mean, but I
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: mean if you could just score like, say, twenty goals
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: like you're there, I.
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Mean, i'diculous.
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: The first time I saw Messi play though, and now
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: you guys make fun of me for my limited soccers.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: But it was like, oh my god, this guy, can
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: you with a ball like you have never seen before?
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: Like even someone like me like I am such a
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: like neo fight when it comes to watching the game
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: when you watch and you're just look and you're like, oh, okay,
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: that's him. You can tell he just said whoever it
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: is like messy, you know, like we're watching Portugal play
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: right now, and obviously what did you say. I don't
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: want to I don't want to repeat.
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: Washed Okay, he was ready to stay it on air,
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: but they like Messi's thing though. I mean he was,
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: but he's fast now, but he was even faster in
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: his peak. But like the way that it's like the
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: ball has a magnet.
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: It almost like almost like he's an elite athlete. It's
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: absolutely unbelievable.
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: How like it's not it is not supposed to be
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: that easy to keep the ball on your foot like that.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: It's amazing what he can do.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: Yeah, And like one of the goals I think it
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: was might have been the ones that got called back,
- 1:41:30Speaker 5: like the guy like drilled the pass into his feet
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: and it just stuck, like it just stopped and you
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: know us player that would have been like ten ft
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: away from yeah.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: Right, and it's like I don't have skills like you
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: see the guys with soft hands and hockey with tape
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: to tape.
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: Yeah, bo, same thing, and that comes from thousands, tens
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: of thousands of repetitions and just the feel for the ball.
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: But I think that's why he aged the street is
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: because like he had, like because of how skillt he is,
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: whereas like Ronaldo is always the raw athletic player of
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: the two, but like now that he's gotten older, he's
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: lost a step and so he hasn't aged as gracefully.
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: Like Ronaldo is a couple of years older, but not
- 1:42:10Speaker 5: not like world not a ton years, you know. I
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: think Messi's like thirty eight, thirty nine, Ronaldo's forty, but
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: like Rinaldo's aged a little bit worse because he's he's
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: not the best athlete on the field anymore, whereas Messi
- 1:42:21Speaker 5: is just you don't you don't lose that skill like
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: that doesn't know.
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: Yeah, That's what I've liked about watching some of the
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: some of the World Cup is to finally see somebody
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: like I don't wake up and watch the Premier League,
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: but to finally see some of these players that you
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: guys talk about that are you know, when we talk.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: About the MLS, it's like, yeah, they don't really have
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: the stars.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: But then to see you know, like Norway last night,
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: and be like, so this is what these really elite players,
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: you know, especially in their prime, somebody in their mid twenties.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: Yeah, six'.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: Five my, God so was that guy really that? Good oh,
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: yeah he's probably was it because they were playing a Rock.
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: Now he's probably a top five.
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: Player he's got he's got fifty seven goals in fifty one.
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: GAME i was more than one goal a game just by.
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: HIM i Was, oscar just By oscar BECAUSE i HONESTLY
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: i never heard that name until Last.
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: But they think about think about that. Stat you know
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: how hard it is to score in? Soccer, yeah fifty
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: seven goals in fifty one game?
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: Goals, now what are the? Games his?
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: Pro Premier?
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: League it puts in The Premier, League Manchester, city it's
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: The premier.
- 1:43:20Speaker 5: Leagu, yeah he's pretty. Good, yesterday if you're a soccer
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: fan and bop let it off And Erling harlan played
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: and Then messi, played.
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: It was, like this is, Unbelievable like it was a
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: good night of. SONG i did not realize that that
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: guy From norway was in that.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Class, yeah, no that that's the REALIZATION i am to
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: last Night.
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: Messi, obviously some people.
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: Are calling the greatest goal scorer of all.
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: TIME i, mean he looks the.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: PART i didn't even.
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: NEED i he's the bossy of soccer because we had
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: an email that came out and was, like you, know
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: saying that there you, Know norway was going to be
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: in the building and you, know be careful around players
- 1:43:53Speaker 6: because you know all this kind Of i'm, like who's
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: this big player they're talking, about.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: You, Know AND i literally flipped THE tv on and,
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: there you, know they were already up like four to.
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: ONE i didn't know the, name and then, oh it's
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: the big blonde.
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: Guy knew who that. Was he's got like the pony.
- 1:44:08Speaker 5: LAUGHING i was, like these people don't know Who Earling harland.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: Is you got to tell everybody what his name.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: Is there's some tall blond guy out.
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: THERE i don't, know.
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: But he's. Impressive you can just.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: TELL i, mean he's like one of those, guys like
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: some of these guys like H. A brown kind of
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: just has that swag to. Him you, know you could
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: tell just walking that he's probably.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Good same.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: Way the thing About holland.
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: Is it's it's when he starts running that you're, like
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: oh my. GOD i kind of like bent over a
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: little bit of his, size like it's just the.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Speed it's.
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: Incredible he has a great motor like he.
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: Does he's like going about one goal where they made
- 1:44:46Speaker 6: a lazy pass and, yeah and he started bearing down
- 1:44:49Speaker 6: on that goal.
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: And the goal pooped his.
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: Pants, vikings if Your viking nightmare towards the, ball you
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: don't want to wait for. It it's same in, football
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: like if if a quarterback throws you a, pass you
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: don't want to wait for the. Ball you want to go.
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: Attack the fact the catch point you can't pass back.
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: To the goalie and then that's not gonna.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: Work, Karen, christian you all are incredibly. Patient christian From
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: la doesn't have anything positive to say or any questions to.
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: Ask i'm curious how much longer you'll tolerate. HIM i
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: hope he doesn't make the rest of us fans From
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: california look.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: Bad keep up the great.
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: Work so he is really holding on to the.
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: Brings some controversy to a.

- 1:45:39Speaker 3: here the censor what people, say like if they have differing.
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: Views i'm not asking him to.
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: Censor he's just made his, Point like we keep beating
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: a dead horse here.
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: A Little george, Says, paul you broke my. HEART i
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: can't believe you don't know the episode With kramer in The.

- 1:45:57Speaker 4: from my show quote seinfeldt LIKE i do at a high.
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: Level and then you forget all the jewels from that.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: Episode you Got Lord, Braun jerry in the glasses buying
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: one hundred dollars worth of gum From Bronze.
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: Connect that's a lot of.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: Gum georgie boy walking around in that outfit from the
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: theater looking like a seven thirty, Patient elaine bothering the
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: man with the, hose and on and on and.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: On, yeah it was a good. Episode it was a lot.
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: Tough some of Those seinfeld episodes are so all over
- 1:46:23Speaker 6: the math THAT i also remember that they weren't the same.
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: One, yeah absolutely. RIGHT i find out all the, time, Right,
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: Yeah BUT i also haven't seen a lot of them
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: in a long. TIME i. HAVEN'T i did see they're
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: real and they're. Spectacular the other day, though that's a
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: Good Erry, hatcher Congratulations david on The knicks like in her.
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: Prime Terry, Hatcher oh, yeah, YEAH i think that was
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: even before she was like really really. Famous, YEAH i
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: think it was For lewis and been Around lewis And clark.
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: Time, yeah let's See david about. Ocus don't like the
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: down wind drift.
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: Here didn't do combine because of him, string torn laboram
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: stress and, foot but nothing about the. Knee so did
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: he conceal his injury or was it just a post DRAFT?
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: NFI i lean that's the. Question, YEAH i leaned towards
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: a long developing injury that was not, disclosed or did
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: scouts goof hard to conceal a chronic condition but looks
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: like he. Did what are the odds OF irf or?
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: Pup what are costs If patriots signed him and he's
- 1:47:23Speaker 4: too hurt to?
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: Play? WELL i would just say that just because, like
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: it doesn't necessarily mean that they missed. IT i know
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: That rabel's like demeanor probably came off some, frustration but
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: they might have known that he had it and need
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: to have a knee drain or, something you, know something like,
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: that and they might have known. That it doesn't necessarily
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: guarantee that they.
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: Missed, no there's no guarantees because we don't know what
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: the answer is, right but it's SOMETHING i think there's
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: a lot of people that have put a lot of
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: different things out, there and one of them is, Right
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: if that makes. Sense, YEAH i think a lot of
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: the stuff in that email there's probably some.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: TRUTH i just started it a little bit last.
- 1:48:02Speaker 6: WEEK i feel like with the contract, situation and you,
- 1:48:05Speaker 6: know they want to protect themselves and so THERE'S i
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: just just don't.
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: Know we don't.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Know the first thing to fall will hopefully be sometime
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: in the next.
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: The guaranteed money will be the big, question you, know
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: like that the emailers question how much depends on how
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: much the money they?
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: Get AND i Know Mike reese's report didn't really shed
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: any real light on what the situation, is but it
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: kind of gave me a little. Hope, yeah like if
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: he had indications that this IS i think it would
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: the report would have been a little bit slanted to the.
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: Negative right about, Me, yeah BECAUSE i went to the opposite,
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: way went the opposite.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: Way so, YEAH i, THOUGHT i, thought, yeah this is
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: all kind of weird right, now but it's all going
- 1:48:44Speaker 4: to play out and he's going to be here for.
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: Trail BUT i looked at it as like a sort
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: of a validation that there's something going.
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: On, Yeah, oh there's definitely something going. On BUT i
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: got the sense from his thing that it's going to be. Fine,
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: YEAH i mean that's that's the SENSE i got.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: To i'm an.
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: Optimist steven in passives on the hot. Line what's, Up Stephen.
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: Steven.
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: Pasadena oh, okay Uh sabah From North? Carolina what's?
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: Up are you back From?
- 1:49:13Speaker 21: MIDALY i just Get we just got back. Yesterday oh my,
- 1:49:18Speaker 21: goodness that was the great TRIP i walked ABOUT i
- 1:49:20Speaker 21: think maybe twenty thousand one, time thirty thousand steps of
- 1:49:23Speaker 21: the day was so. Polite, yeah we Did, Rome florence
- 1:49:27Speaker 21: And i'm off the. Coast it was, awesome AND i
- 1:49:31Speaker 21: was afraid of the first. TRIP i was thinking about.
- 1:49:33Speaker 21: THAT i wasn't looking forward to coming.
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: Home oh really it was really.
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: Good that's a good.
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: Trip, yeah that's a good.
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: Trip yeah.
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 1:49:41Speaker 21: Yeah the bank account needs to be replenished, Though but
- 1:49:43Speaker 21: other than, that everything was great and the food was.
- 1:49:46Speaker 21: Wonderful now you'all time out. SPORTS i grew up with
- 1:49:50Speaker 21: to older, brothers twin, brothers AND i always wanted to
- 1:49:53Speaker 21: play with them all the, time so we were like
- 1:49:55Speaker 21: always out in the street playing. FOOTBALL i would be
- 1:49:57Speaker 21: the all time. Quarterback we would do like a thick
- 1:50:00Speaker 21: it between two, trees AND i kicked so many field
- 1:50:02Speaker 21: goals that had foot throughped for a. Week and then
- 1:50:04Speaker 21: we used to act like we were like Evil caneveld
- 1:50:06Speaker 21: set up like ramps and there'll be like will. Barrels
- 1:50:09Speaker 21: we'd jump over them or jump over. DITCHES i used
- 1:50:11Speaker 21: to play a baseball all the boys in the. Park
- 1:50:15Speaker 21: we just go there And i'd be all the. Picture
- 1:50:17Speaker 21: even the little league team came to my parents and
- 1:50:19Speaker 21: asked me to be on the, team a girl on
- 1:50:21Speaker 21: the boys, team but of course they said no because
- 1:50:23Speaker 21: they said it'll be too, dangerous so they wouldn't let me.
- 1:50:26Speaker 21: Play and we love. Basketball always went out to the.
- 1:50:29Speaker 21: Park now he was much older than, us but we
- 1:50:31Speaker 21: actually bumped into. Occasionally Phil ford playing in the park
- 1:50:36Speaker 21: And Rock, Mound North. Carolina so he's an all time.
- 1:50:40Speaker 21: Great you know In. Carolina he played back in the
- 1:50:43Speaker 21: step you played.
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: Basketball, yeah he was a great college point guard At North,
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: carolina played in THE.
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: Nba At hall Of.
- 1:50:51Speaker 21: Fame you, know he would have done good in the,
- 1:50:53Speaker 21: league but he kind of got the Drugs but the
- 1:50:56Speaker 21: point is, nowadays the kids they can't get off the.
- 1:50:59Speaker 21: Computer we used to always go outside because we were.
- 1:51:02Speaker 12: Bored was nothing to do in the.
- 1:51:03Speaker 21: House you had three, channels.
- 1:51:04Speaker 9: So you left and you went and you did.
- 1:51:06Speaker 21: Things you didn't come home till. Dark, NOW i, mean you,
- 1:51:08Speaker 21: know my kids are like in their twenties and they're
- 1:51:10Speaker 21: on the. Computer i'm, like go and go, outside do,
- 1:51:12Speaker 21: Something go hit the, ball do you? Know and, uh
- 1:51:15Speaker 21: it's just. DIFFERENT i. Think, well the way we had,
- 1:51:18Speaker 21: IT i think is better because you get the personal
- 1:51:21Speaker 21: interaction and you get exercise and. Fitness but you, know
- 1:51:25Speaker 21: that's how it. Is and BUT i just wanted to
- 1:51:27Speaker 21: comment about. That and, okay you, know AND i played
- 1:51:29Speaker 21: three sports in high. School so, anyway, guys thanks of.
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: All, YEAH i mean the kids are Spending when you
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: think about back in my, day there were no, computers
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: so there was zero percent of my time spent on a.
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: Computer.
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: ZERO i didn't spend any time on a, computer, obviously
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: BUT i spent my entire childhood on video games AND
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: i don't even do. THAT i still had time to
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: go out and play.
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: Baseball those were Like i'm going to Play centipede FOR
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: i can maybe make it a half an hour.
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Before oh, no we.
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: Know we would have fun leagues of intelevision. FOOTBALL i
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: mean we would Do we worked it up Like. DEVIN i,
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: mean we kept, Stats we had. Trends you. Know evan
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: would have been, like you run the ball a little
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: bit too much to the, right but we. Did we
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: had full leagues of Like atari in, television whatever the,
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: whatever the. Car everybody had a million. Games we played.
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: Constantly i'm too, old but like my, cousins like, THEY
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: i don't think the issue is that they're on their
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: phones or their computers too. Much it's that everything's organized.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: Like every like they don't just think that's the way they.
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: Like they their whole day schedule is scheduled from like
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: eight to. Six their whole day is. Scheduled And i'm,
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: like don't you guys ever just like play for.

- 1:53:16Speaker 1: Just kind of happy you guys are outside doing stuff
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: instead of Being.
