- 0:03Second Samuel chapter five, meet me there.
- 0:06And as you come to this chapter meet me in verse 6.
- 0:14Second Samuel. Chapter 5 verse verse 6.
- 0:29And the King and his men went to Jerusalem against the jebusites,
- 0:33the inhabitants of the land who said to David, you will not come
- 0:36in here but the Blind and the lame will Ward you off thinking,
- 0:41David cannot come in here. Nevertheless, David took the
- 0:45stronghold of Zion that is the city of David and David said on
- 0:49that day, whoever would strike the jebusites.
- 0:53Let him get up the water shaft, to attack the lame and the
- 0:57blind. Who are hated by David Soul.
- 1:02Therefore, it is said the blind and the lame shall not come into
- 1:06the house and David lived in the stronghold and called it.
- 1:09The city of David and David built the city all around the
- 1:14Milo, Inward and David became greater and greater for the
- 1:18Lord. The god of hosts was with him.
- 1:23Lord, this is your precious word.
- 1:26We want to savor it tonight. We want to be nourished by it
- 1:31tonight and father, we are excited to be in your house
- 1:35tonight. Lord, open our minds disarm our
- 1:40hearts and let the implanted word save our souls, save it
- 1:47from sin, save it from Fear, save it from discouragement say,
- 1:53From deception. We pray that there would be a
- 1:56special touch on this Bible. Study Lord, we long to
- 2:00fellowship with you and you have given us the means through your
- 2:04word. Now let this word wash over us
- 2:08cleanse us. Polish us, whatever needs to be
- 2:13done for us to have a greater reflection of the person of
- 2:17Jesus Christ. Oh, we are we are so honored.
- 2:20Father to be in this place in your presence with your people
- 2:25in Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
- 2:29In a brief five versus if you were here last week you and I
- 2:32read the Fulfillment of Samuel's prophetic word and God's promise
- 2:38to David because he was finally inaugurated as the king over all
- 2:43of Israel not just Judah but overall the tribes and in our
- 2:48study tonight we will quickly note how David proved to be
- 2:53God's chosen man. For the assignment because
- 2:57almost Idiot Lee. He is going to make great
- 3:00advancements for the nation. And when we see this, what we
- 3:07also recognize is that in the following chapters, it will
- 3:10really be just like a series of conquests and campaigns that
- 3:14David is able to achieve and it will be a direct result of his
- 3:19gifted leadership and his love for God.
- 3:22And for God's people, and each story will give us the necessary
- 3:26instructions to understand who God is and his ways with man,
- 3:31but even with that General observations of this new action
- 3:34in our study of the life of David as the king of Israel, we
- 3:38already have something to consider and meditate, and it is
- 3:42this and the same way that David brought about immediate
- 3:46blessing, the moment, Israel recognize and elected him as the
- 3:50king So it is with the person who submits to the lordship of
- 3:56Jesus Christ, there is sudden reward, there is immediate
- 4:03blessing, and if you're a follower of Jesus Christ, you
- 4:07know, you know, that the moment you have truly repented and
- 4:11believed on his name, there is this infusion of Peace.
- 4:15This overwhelming Joy, this burden of sin that rolled off of
- 4:20your back. And as a follower of Christ, You
- 4:23know that that is just the beginning.
- 4:24That is just the Genesis of the rewards that will follow us who
- 4:29chose to follow him. And here's what's amazing in
- 4:33this in this study, the way we're going to frame our
- 4:35application is that in the same way, we see unique features that
- 4:40are attributed to the kingship of David.
- 4:42It will point to the ultimate fulfillment of the
- 4:46characteristics that are found in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ,
- 4:50when he takes up ownership of a life and when he will ultimately
- 4:53take ownership of our world, And so we read it.
- 4:58What was the first thing that King David sought to do as the
- 5:01newly established leader? He, he thought it necessary to
- 5:07create a headquarters, a political capital for Israel.
- 5:11And the choice was Jerusalem. Any idea why Jerusalem?
- 5:18Not many reasons, but there are some reasons.
- 5:21Has anybody been to Jerusalem other than our Elder you've been
- 5:26anything unique about Jerusalem? That would make this a good
- 5:29choice for a capital. Very good.
- 5:35Did you hear it? This was a strategic move
- 5:38geographically. Speaking Jerusalem is a
- 5:40mountainous region. It is hilly.
- 5:43It is Rocky. And so it provides natural
- 5:46fortification. And this is what David saw to do
- 5:49to create his Citadel in a place where any enemy Invasion will be
- 5:52much more difficult to accomplish.
- 5:56And so he goes and there are other reasons.
- 5:57There are other political reasons, but here is one to
- 5:59consider that, this is a great move in terms of me.
- 6:04A Terry genius. But as we read, David would not
- 6:09plant his flag so easily in Jerusalem because it was already
- 6:12occupied by the jebusites. And in case we have forgotten,
- 6:16the jebusites are just one of the people groups who were the
- 6:20inhabitants of the land of Canaan before Joshua LED Israel
- 6:24into the promised land to overtake it and apparently we
- 6:28read it. The jebusites resided with the
- 6:31Israelites for centuries. And the main reason, why is
- 6:35because there was a lack of ability or rather, a lack of
- 6:39willingness, a lack of faith, from a particular tribe of
- 6:43Israel, to remove the jebusites from the scene so that they can
- 6:47have all that. God, purchased for them in the
- 6:49promised land. Can you guess which tribe it was
- 6:52that failed at the assignment of removing the jebusites.
- 7:01Very good. The tribe of go to Judges
- 7:05chapter one so you can see it. Judges one rewind a little bit
- 7:10and look at judges one 1:21 and you'll see the answer our
- 7:14brother said it but it's good to see it.
- 7:16In our Bibles here is the tribe that failed. judges 121, but the
- 7:23people of Benjamin did not drive out the jebusites who lived in
- 7:29Jerusalem. So the jebusites have lived with
- 7:31the people of Benjamin and Jerusalem to this day and
- 7:35hundreds of years have passed from that moment and up to
- 7:38David's Dynasty. Starting, we see the jebusites
- 7:41are still there. Now, we went through judges to
- 7:46see why this was the case, it was a lack of faith, ultimately
- 7:49because God promised them that every single one of the enemies
- 7:52can be overthrown and because of their own human wisdom or their
- 7:55fears, they allowed some of these inhabitants to remain as
- 7:59Neighbours when that was not, the will of God.
- 8:01It would have generational consequences as we see here in
- 8:04our study. But isn't this?
- 8:06Isn't this something? Telling about someone from
- 8:10Benjamin who was one of the main characters that we study who is
- 8:14from Benjamin again, Saul and Saul was the king of Israel for
- 8:18forty years. And isn't it strange that he did
- 8:21not take it upon himself to do? What Benjamin was supposed to do
- 8:26and that was overthrow the jebusites?
- 8:29I mean, just add that to the list of failures that he
- 8:31already. You already.
- 8:33Did you already failed to do? he failed to overtake the
- 8:38Philistines, he fare to defend the people from outside forces
- 8:41and he ultimately failed here doing what was originally
- 8:44Commander for this tribe and that was to ransack the enemy
- 8:47from within But here's what significant Benjamin as we heard
- 8:52last week. A portion of them, at least they
- 8:56humble themselves. And they looked at David, and
- 8:58they said, this is God's choice. This is, this is the king, the
- 9:01true, king knots all not his descendants, this man has truly
- 9:05been anointed of the Lord and the moment that they chose to
- 9:09submit to the will of God, David could deliver, what Saul could
- 9:13never provide That's Jesus. When you and I stubbornly, try
- 9:21to govern our own lives, our dreams, our passions, our flesh,
- 9:26our sin thinking, that we can rule ourselves well and refuse
- 9:32to Bow before the anointed one of the Lord, then you will
- 9:36never. When I mean never, I mean never
- 9:38you will never know triumph over that which seeks to have
- 9:42dominion over you. And you have people who are not
- 9:47even Christian who can confess that there are certain habits
- 9:50and decisions that are self destructive destructive to
- 9:52others. They may not label it as Sin but
- 9:54it is sin and you might even have professing Christians.
- 9:57Not truly born again, but they profess to be Christians and
- 10:00they can never seem to overcome certain things in their lives.
- 10:05And I want to tell you, the reason is, is because you have
- 10:08refused to give yourself to the lordship of Christ in totality.
- 10:15And in the truest sense of the word, you have not arrived there
- 10:20because the only solution for you to know.
- 10:22Genuine freedom is to genuinely submit to Christ as Lord And if
- 10:29not, then you will be like many people and just like The Tribe
- 10:34of Benjamin, you will resolve that, you know, I guess I cannot
- 10:37overcome this. And I will just live comfortably
- 10:39and tolerate these ungodly habits in my life that are
- 10:42eating up my soul and destroying me and others.
- 10:46That's what people do. They just, they just live with
- 10:49their sin. When there is one who can
- 10:51conquer. As we sang, every sin, every
- 10:54sin, And some might objectives say well I do profess that Jesus
- 10:59Christ has, he's my king, he is my king.
- 11:03And yet at the same time you are a slave to lust a slave to Pride
- 11:08a slave to greet a slave to Envy.
- 11:12I encourage you to be honest with yourself and ask this
- 11:15question is Christ. King of all remember David
- 11:21before he was king of Israel was king of One Tribe tribe of
- 11:24Judah. And what's interesting is that
- 11:26Was a neighboring tribe to Benjamin.
- 11:29Meaning David as king of Hebron was very close.
- 11:33Physically, speaking to The Tribe of Benjamin and yet they
- 11:37still never knew victory over the jebusites.
- 11:40And so you have some people who think Jesus is close to me, he's
- 11:44close, he takes up my Sunday afternoon.
- 11:46He takes up my my conversations with my Godly mother who tries
- 11:52to remind me of what it means to be a true follower of Christ.
- 11:55Yeah, he takes up my One of my apps out of my Hundred apps.
- 11:58I get a verse of the day. He's close.
- 12:01But you haven't crowned him yet. You haven't truly crowned him as
- 12:06Lord. And so he's somebody that Trails
- 12:11behind you that you take a peek at some times, but he doesn't
- 12:14rule over you. And so you will never know
- 12:18victory in this way, no matter how close Jesus until you remove
- 12:23yourself from the Throne of your will and take the crown of your
- 12:26life and place it on his blessed brow, you will remain defeated,
- 12:31you will not know the maximum force of God's promises that
- 12:36have been purchased in Jesus Christ.
- 12:38But can only be unlocked and access through surrender to his
- 12:42lordship. So look at this example and
- 12:45never forget it. This happens in so many ways.
- 12:49I remember speaking to somebody who have never met.
- 12:51It was through a friend who said please, there's somebody in this
- 12:54person was was successful on YouTube.
- 12:58And this person said I suffer with anxiety.
- 13:00I suffer with. I just talked over the phone
- 13:02with, with a lack of assurance of my future.
- 13:05Can you give me any Biblical verses or truths?
- 13:08That can help me and what came to mind was Philippians 4:7,
- 13:11right? That the, the peace of God, the
- 13:16peace of God can provide such a healing and guard your minds in
- 13:20your hearts in Christ Jesus. And here's the thing, you can
- 13:24give that to somebody who's unregenerate, you could Point
- 13:27them to that truth, but if you read on in verse 9 of the same
- 13:30text, Paul speaks not about the peace of God, but about the God
- 13:34of Peace. In other words, you can't have
- 13:38the peace of God until you first have the God of Peace.
- 13:42You can't have the blessings and the benefits and less you,
- 13:45crowned him as Lord. And lets you determine when your
- 13:48heart everything and all that I have belongs to you and some of
- 13:53the the best ways of evaluating whether this is true in our
- 13:57lives. I mean, you know, in your heart
- 13:58of hearts if he's truly Lord but cut up the segments of your life
- 14:02and ask yourself business belong to Christ.
- 14:05Does this belong to Price. Does this belong to Christ?
- 14:08Do I submit to Jesus lordship here?
- 14:10Do I submit to Jesus of lordship here?
- 14:13See David was. Lord of One Tribe but not all
- 14:16tribes. So the tribes would not know
- 14:18total blessing. And in the same way, if you give
- 14:21Christ part of your life, you will not know all of his
- 14:23Blessing. In fact, you will know none of
- 14:26it is either Lord of all or not Lord at all.
- 14:32And so, we see that David here. Finally becoming king of all the
- 14:36tribes. Namely, and more specifically
- 14:38Benjamin, Benjamin can finally know after centuries of bondage,
- 14:42after centuries of bondage, the moment David was crowned, their
- 14:47freedom came. I believe, listen, I believe
- 14:50this gospel is more powerful than a thousand years of
- 14:55counseling. A thousand years of it.
- 14:59It's better than any rehab program.
- 15:02It's better than, and I'm not against those things.
- 15:04I'm just saying if they're not lace with Biblical truth, and
- 15:06empowered by the spirit, you will not know true, Freedom.
- 15:09True freedom is in Christ, is in this gospel.
- 15:12The wisdom of God's word, receive by faith.
- 15:16I've seen in my own life, I've seen in other people's lives and
- 15:18I will believe it for those who need Freedom.
- 15:21Did you notice the taunt of the jebusites and the second part of
- 15:24verse 6, they said to David, you will not come in here but the
- 15:29Blind and the lame will Ward. You off thinking, David cannot
- 15:32come in here. Unfortunately this is an ugly
- 15:37picture of Pride and this Pride was bread because of this
- 15:42undefeated resistance against the Israelites the jebusites new
- 15:46a history of strength. So to speak and success because
- 15:49of the uniqueness of the fortification.
- 15:51And so now when David comes as a challenge like If we put blind
- 15:56and deaf people on these walls, they can defend against you.
- 16:01And so there's scorned here, there's mockery here, there's
- 16:04belittlement here. And this is prophetically.
- 16:06A picture of the wicked today, who mocked Jesus, who think they
- 16:13can resist against the sovereignty of Jesus who can
- 16:16thwart Jesus, who can ward of Jesus, and what was true here
- 16:20with David will be true one day, when Christ himself will invade,
- 16:26not just the world Jerusalem and set up his headquarters.
- 16:31For a thousand years and no matter what anybody says, or
- 16:35thinks they will not be able to stop him, he will have his way,
- 16:42he will conquer. The nation's, he will rule and
- 16:44Reign, and the Kings, and the president.
- 16:47And the prime minister's will have to accept it.
- 16:51They will have to, I love that in verse 7, the first word
- 16:54nevertheless, despite the mocking and the blaspheming and
- 16:58the hating is Jesus will ultimately have his will and he
- 17:04will conquer. What seems to be on conquerable.
- 17:07He will make his presence and power known and everybody will
- 17:12be able to realize it and here's what's so encouraging.
- 17:15Because like I said, nevertheless right?
- 17:17David took the stronghold of Zion that is the city of David.
- 17:20Now, let me relate that back to sin, no matter how strong that
- 17:23sin has been in your life. No matter how pesky it's been,
- 17:28no matter how stubborn it's been no matter how Relentless.
- 17:30It's been Christ can overcome it.
- 17:34He really can break bondages. He really can break chains and
- 17:38so don't believe the lies of sin, don't believe that the
- 17:41Temptations don't give up, give yourself to Christ over and over
- 17:46again and watch him. Create a true synodal as he
- 17:51brings down strongholds by his power.
- 17:54Nevertheless We see you that there's a prophetic picture, but
- 17:57here's the Practical picture. What a dangerous illustration
- 18:01for the proud. Here's the lesson that the fate
- 18:07of The Proud is ultimately a downfall for any kind of person
- 18:11for any, kind of individual for any kind of project for any kind
- 18:15of ministry. Anything that is done with
- 18:18arrogance or anything. That is that produces a sense of
- 18:23strength and self-glory will result in God, finding a way to
- 18:29bring it to the dust every single time.
- 18:32And they seem so confident right?
- 18:36The Holy Spirit could have could have hidden this thing about how
- 18:39these jebusites were flaunting their strength in the face of
- 18:42David. And God, he could have hidden
- 18:44it, but he wants to surface it to teaches a valuable lesson.
- 18:47The proud cannot get away with their pride.
- 18:51And God takes into consideration.
- 18:52Every Bose every high and lofty thought and he will indeed do
- 18:56something about it. In fact, what do you see here in
- 18:59verse 8 and David said on that day, whoever would strike the
- 19:03Zeb jebusites, let him get up the water shaft to attack the
- 19:06lame and the blind who are hated by David Soul, hated by David
- 19:12Soul. Well, what did he hate you hate,
- 19:14he hated the pride that was spewing out of their mouths.
- 19:18The stench of conceit and arrogance, that's what he hated.
- 19:23And like our Lord. Jesus has a special hatred for
- 19:28Pride, he does. I know that might conflict with
- 19:33the Sunday school version of Jesus, who would not dare blush
- 19:38with righteous indignation. But as always, happy and glad
- 19:43Meek and Mild he hates with a perfect hatred.
- 19:49And one of the things that arouses his judgment Is pride.
- 19:56Is pride. In fact, there is a prophecy
- 19:59about what Jesus will do, like David in a grander way when
- 20:05Jesus, the son of David, the descendant of David will come
- 20:08and establish his worldwide Empire.
- 20:13And the prophecy which is really encouraging to me, is in a book
- 20:17that perhaps many people don't read, Zephaniah.
- 20:20Have you heard of him? He's in there, Zephaniah, find
- 20:25him if you can't find them. There's a table of contents.
- 20:29That's there for the humble. To say, I will go there to find
- 20:33Zephaniah. when you go to Zephaniah, go to chapter 3 and I
- 20:37want you to see prophecy about what the King of Kings will do
- 20:44when he invades. The nation's Zephaniah 311.
- 20:50Are you there? Yes.
- 20:54You brought your textbook to school.
- 20:56Zephaniah. 311 on that day, on that day.
- 21:01You shall not be put to shame. He speaking to the nation of
- 21:04Israel, you shall not be put to shame because of the Deeds by
- 21:07which you have rebelled against me.
- 21:09Pause, there is not wonderful. We will not be put to shame.
- 21:14We will not be put to shame because of the redeeming blood
- 21:16of Jesus as we stand before him. He will not rub, our Deeds of
- 21:20rebellion against us or in our faces.
- 21:22I praise God for that. But look at this for then.
- 21:26I will remove from your midst. You're proudly.
- 21:30Exalted ones. And you shall no longer be
- 21:34haughty in my Holy Mountain. One of the first things that
- 21:41Jesus Christ will prioritize in his return, is that he will rid
- 21:47the Earth of those who are proud.
- 21:51He will cleanse the lands from those who have a sense of
- 21:57Independence. Defiance against God, who glory
- 22:01in their positions, who boast in their possessions, who think?
- 22:04They are not accountable to anybody who have no thought or
- 22:08regard. Were the one who created him.
- 22:10One of the first things on Jesus To Do List when he returns is.
- 22:14Let's get rid of the lands from those who exalt n't.
- 22:19And who believe they are something apart from me.
- 22:25And it will be a successful campaign.
- 22:28No matter what these proud men have accomplished, no matter
- 22:31what kind of strength or resources, they have behind
- 22:33their name. They will be removed, but not
- 22:38just that they will be replaced. In other words, there will be a
- 22:42Remnant left and that's in verse 12.
- 22:45But look what the Lord says, I will leave in your midst of
- 22:48people humble. Humble and lowly.
- 22:53They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord.
- 22:56Those who are left in Israel. They shall do no Injustice and
- 23:00speak, no lies. Nor shall there.
- 23:02Be found in their mouth? Deceitful tongue for?
- 23:04They shall graze and lie down and None Shall make them afraid.
- 23:09So, here's what you have in contrast to the wicked who will
- 23:11be judged and the millennial Reign.
- 23:14The citizens of God's kingdom will be characterized by
- 23:17humbleness and lowliness. And although, this is a future
- 23:22promise, understand something, as Believers, we believe and a
- 23:25present, and future reality of God's Kingdom.
- 23:29So we believe that we are citizens of God's kingdom.
- 23:32Now, that Christ rules in the heavens triumphantly that he
- 23:37abides in our hearts, that we have been commissioned as
- 23:40ambassadors, from a Heavenly Embassy, and to these worldly
- 23:44embassies. And as we Faithfully represent
- 23:47him, we await the physical manifestation of His worldwide
- 23:51domain. So there is a present and not
- 23:54yet aspect of God's kingdom. Why do I bring that up?
- 23:58I bring that up because if Christ truly rules over a life
- 24:04in the now that I am under the conviction that the realities of
- 24:08the future Kingdom will be present in the heart of the
- 24:12believer today. In other words, if Christ will
- 24:16be king will cause Pride to be removed and replaced with
- 24:21humility, then Christ who rules in the heart.
- 24:25Now will have the same effect will have the same work will
- 24:29have the same result. And this is what I want to
- 24:33present to you because if you want to know whether or not the
- 24:38rule of crisis in affecting your life, then here's just one
- 24:42example. Among many, if Christ is really
- 24:45my king, then you will know something of a work, a removal
- 24:51of self-regulation, and a replacement of Integrity that
- 24:55reflects the lowliness of Jesus Christ.
- 25:00And if we desire to know that, then all you have to do is see
- 25:03how Zephaniah describes, what humility looks like, what
- 25:07humbleness looks like. If you really, if you really
- 25:09want, to be honest before God, and before yourself Lord, are
- 25:13you really the king of my life? Because I see that one day, you
- 25:18will become king and when you do become king, you will do
- 25:21something of a work. Of a removal of Pride and a
- 25:27replacement of humility. Is that true of me?
- 25:31We'll look at the effects, look at the features of the humble
- 25:35and lowly, who will be citizens of God's kingdom.
- 25:37What do you see there in verse 12, what's the first thing?
- 25:43What will the humble and lowly do?
- 25:47They will. Seek refuge in the name of the
- 25:51Lord. That's how you know, there's
- 25:55there's a work of Christ kingship in a heart.
- 25:59You now have this new understanding that God himself
- 26:04is the source of your strength that he is the source of your
- 26:08power. He is your provider, he is your
- 26:10protector and he is the one that receives all the credit for any
- 26:16good that you enjoy Here. And Now, And so, there is this
- 26:21realization. I cannot depend on myself
- 26:24anymore. I do not find anything within
- 26:27myself, all that I need and all that I have comes from my refuge
- 26:32who is God himself. And so that's an inward
- 26:35acknowledgement that comes to life.
- 26:37When Jesus, Jesus lovingly takes his place in your heart and it
- 26:42becomes an outward acknowledgement as well.
- 26:45There is this boasting. So to speak in Christ, he is the
- 26:49one who is My All In All He is the one who has control, he is
- 26:53the one who determines all things.
- 26:55My hope is in him, not just for my salvation, but in everything,
- 27:01in all things, he is my refuge. This is where I live Under The
- 27:05Canopy under the banner of God is my fill in the blank.
- 27:11And so the first thing that you can expect from somebody who has
- 27:14truly made Jesus king is that they know that from him and
- 27:20through him and to him are all things.
- 27:24The David believe that when he became king he did, I don't want
- 27:27you to turn there, but but we read it later on in the very
- 27:30same text that we're studying when he actually overtakes the
- 27:33jebusites. We have a, we have an awesome
- 27:36commentary about David's attitude.
- 27:37Here it is and chapter 5 of second, Samuel verse Listen to
- 27:42this, just listen to this, and David knew that the Lord had
- 27:48established him King over Israel.
- 27:51And that he had exalted his kingdom for his sake.
- 27:55No, for the sake of his people, Israel?
- 27:58What a frame of mind that even after success, over an enemy,
- 28:03that could not be taken down for hundreds of years.
- 28:07David knew as a response, this is God.
- 28:11This is him, not only is it him but I know that I bring brought
- 28:15to this prominent position, not not for my ego.
- 28:19Not because I have some special favor in God's eyes so that I
- 28:23can enjoy Authority and enjoy access to whatever I want.
- 28:28No. But for the sake of God's
- 28:29people, can you imagine that? I mean no wonder this man is a
- 28:33man after God's heart. He realized that whatever he had
- 28:37came from him. We studied that at Maranatha.
- 28:40And so it is with Those who have Christ ruling in their hearts.
- 28:43They have that recognition brimming in their souls.
- 28:48But look at verse 13 and Zephaniah, you're still there,
- 28:50right? What else has mentioned about
- 28:53those who are humble and lowly? What are the characteristics
- 28:55that describe such such people? What is he saying?
- 29:08Yes. Yes.
- 29:11First thing They shall do no Injustice. one of the main
- 29:17reasons you want to know one of the main reasons why there is
- 29:19Injustice in like our legal system, for example, selfish
- 29:24gain selfish gain. There's a Personal Agenda,
- 29:29though. They have a duty for the common,
- 29:32good of the people, they will step on anything and anyone in
- 29:36order to protect and provide for themselves.
- 29:38Even if it's corrupt, even if it's evil, they don't care.
- 29:41And the reason why I say that is the main reason is because that
- 29:44is a main thing that the Lord himself brings up whenever he
- 29:46deals with leaders who are unjust.
- 29:49He tends to always point to bribery as the cause Right.
- 29:54Self-preservation. Then being the top of the list.
- 30:00And in terms of prioritization, that is the reason you can
- 30:04replace Injustice with unfairness.
- 30:08And the reason that there is unfairness is not because I'm
- 30:12talking from a leadership standpoint is because not
- 30:15because of a lack of competence per se, but because of self
- 30:20self. And so I bring that up because
- 30:24those who have Christ ruling in their hearts will not be unjust.
- 30:28Which also means will not be selfish will not be unfair.
- 30:33So let's break that down true citizens of the kingdom of God.
- 30:38Under the administration of the humble leader of the nation's
- 30:43leader of the universe. They're not going to show
- 30:46favoritism. Right.
- 30:48They're not going to, they're not going to manipulate others
- 30:52and slander their neighbors so that they can promote self.
- 30:56They're not going to allow themselves to be guided by
- 30:59emotions or or by human wisdom, the standard of their judgment
- 31:04the standard of their decisions, out of the fear of the Lord will
- 31:07be God's word supremely. It will be God's will no matter
- 31:11what it costs them. And so, you have to understand
- 31:15that there is a a work that is done.
- 31:18In terms of how we deal with others, we do not become
- 31:22priority number one. We see that the good of others,
- 31:26the glory of God takes place of us.
- 31:28We're in the backseat of this whole thing.
- 31:31We're in the back seat. That's what Jesus does when he
- 31:35becomes king of a life. There's this the sphere of us,
- 31:40elevating ourselves in a holy way fear of of bringing
- 31:44ourselves to a place where everything revolves around us
- 31:47and there is this conscious awareness.
- 31:49Yes, our flesh gets strong sometimes, but there is an
- 31:51awareness that this is not not what we're made for.
- 31:54This is not what it means to be a Christian.
- 31:56And we try to imitate the servanthood of the one who is
- 32:00also King. Our brother mentioned that
- 32:02there's a third thing, Zephaniah highlights, the work of Christ
- 32:06when he sets up his Millennial Reign, not just in the fact that
- 32:09those who are humble and lowly will be what taking the Refuge
- 32:13in the name of God, or will refuse to do Injustice, but
- 32:17there's another thing they will speak, no lies, nor shall there.
- 32:22Be in their mouth, a deceitful tongue.
- 32:26I'm going to be very bold and my statement here, okay.
- 32:29If a person can comfortably deceive if a person can bend the
- 32:34truth, without a sense of conviction, I know one thing
- 32:37about that person, Jesus Christ is not their King.
- 32:42Because he is truth and we are people who have been saved by
- 32:45truth and we prize the truth. We are Sanctified by the truth
- 32:49and so we are of Truth and about truth.
- 32:54And so people who can, who can live in a habitual state of
- 32:59lying and twisting and even exaggerating have some serious
- 33:04questions to ask of whether or not the truth is really their
- 33:08King. And God Because I see that when
- 33:14Jesus becomes king his his population, his people will have
- 33:19pure speech. They will have pure speech, they
- 33:23will be honest, they will be forthright, they will not seek
- 33:26to imitate. Any kind of manipulation, but
- 33:31they will seek to instead imitate the character of their
- 33:33King, their testimonies will be reliable.
- 33:37You don't have to question their yes, or their know, anything,
- 33:41that would even resemble a shade of questionable Integrity will
- 33:47be, will be expelled by the strength of the spirit.
- 33:49And so I'm just, I'm just giving this to you to help you read the
- 33:53Bible with a deeper lens, right? If Christ will become king one
- 33:58day and we Have to talk about the end times, right?
- 34:01We love to talk about what Jesus will do it.
- 34:03And out of curiosity, we talked about how a lion will lie with a
- 34:07little puppy and, and the Wolf will be with the snake.
- 34:10Okay? That's, that's all wonderful.
- 34:11But but look at the implication what happens when Jesus becomes
- 34:15king? And if it's going to happen,
- 34:18then should have not how happen now to some degree.
- 34:21Yes, it should. And so the same way, David comes
- 34:25in and removes the proud and exalting ones in the It's that's
- 34:30what Christ will do when he invades your heart, all those
- 34:34voices and all those, those justifications that try to make
- 34:38this whole thing about you and me, they died.
- 34:42Jesus Christ, died on the cross for my sins.
- 34:44Amen. Hallelujah.
- 34:45But Jesus Christ also wants to crucify you and me, he does not
- 34:50for our salvation but so that he can live through us Pop quiz.
- 34:56Yeah. David when he announced that he
- 35:01would invade the jebusites, did not say he would do it but he
- 35:04offered it up as an assignment. As a challenge, he invited his
- 35:09men to take it upon themselves to go in and to lead the attack
- 35:15and presumably if they would do that, if one would do that, then
- 35:18he would offer them some kind of reward.
- 35:20And we learned later on that it was actually promotion to a
- 35:22certain position. So here's my question, who did
- 35:25it? Any idea.
- 35:31Who accepted it and who achieved it?
- 35:35And who was promoted any ideas? I'm going to give you the answer
- 35:40in a few seconds, but it's going to be in a reference.
- 35:42You have to turn there. You got you guys understand what
- 35:47I'm saying, right? Okay, good.
- 35:51Because the teacher always wants to make sure they're clear.
- 35:53You guys understand that read verse 8 to see what I'm saying?
- 35:56Whoever would strike the jebusites so he is not, he is
- 36:00not leading the charge. She is trying to test the
- 36:04loyalty and the strength of his men by making this an
- 36:07opportunity for them to prove themselves.
- 36:09So who said yes and who received it any idea?
- 36:16Another lesson of how we need to know other portions of the Bible
- 36:21to comprehend, whatever, we're reading in the moment, okay?
- 36:25If you want to know the answer, I'm not going to give it to you.
- 36:28You can have to turn to First Chronicles, First Chronicles,
- 36:31chapter 11. You have it.
- 36:33Well, let me give the reference and I'll ask you and First
- 36:35Chronicles 11:6, do you have it Vivian?
- 36:39What is it? Did you hear the answer?
- 36:43Well, let's find out if you're right first Chronicles, chapter
- 36:4511 verse 6, Sometimes that beats people to their Bible.
- 36:56So David said, whoever strikes the jebusites.
- 37:01First shall be Chief and Commander.
- 37:03That's the reward. And Joe had the son of Zechariah
- 37:07went up first so he became chief joab job.
- 37:12Succeeded I learned something from this.
- 37:19Job was very gifted. He was very gifted, he could
- 37:26strategize. And then you couple that with
- 37:28this fearlessness, and he was top-tier Soldier, he would, he
- 37:35was somebody that you wanted on your team.
- 37:38But here's what I take out of it because we already have a
- 37:40background on job to know something.
- 37:43About this achievement. And is this, that it is, it is
- 37:46possible to be To be overwhelmingly talented or have
- 37:51great ability and at the same time, walk and poor character.
- 37:57If we were introduced to job at this point we would think he was
- 38:00a man of Faith. A man of Courage, a man who
- 38:02trusted in God's power and intervention but we already have
- 38:07been introduced to job and he has been brought to us in a
- 38:10negative light because job although he was a military
- 38:13genius was a cold-blooded murderer.
- 38:18And what's what's amazing? Here is that when you read on in
- 38:22second Samuel, we come to the end of David's, Rule and Reign.
- 38:26And there is a portion of this book that gives us a list of
- 38:30David's, mighty, men. Have you read that chapter?
- 38:33It's just one named after the next and sometimes with that
- 38:36name comes with the very thing that made them stand out in
- 38:41David's ranks as they were recognized for their
- 38:43faithfulness to his his government. here's the thing,
- 38:48we'll get there when we go there, but when you go to that
- 38:51list of men in chapter 23, of second Samuel, you know what
- 38:54you'll realize somebody's not mentioned guess who Joab is not
- 39:01mentioned, hold on the chief and the commander of David's Army is
- 39:08not even once recognized for his faithfulness and Fidelity to
- 39:15David. How can that be?
- 39:19In fact, you want to see something even more shocking?
- 39:22I'm not going to tell you. You gotta turn the leaves of
- 39:26sacred scripture and go to chapter 23.
- 39:28I want you to see this with your own eyes and look here in verse
- 39:3137 of chapter 23. This is near the end of the list
- 39:34of the Mighty Men Who served alongside David and the Holy
- 39:38Spirit honors. These men there's great great
- 39:40great instruction in this but notice second Samuel chapter 23
- 39:45verse 37 and this might have found you zoellick the ammonite.
- 39:52Nah, hirai of beer off, the armor bearer of Joy, the son of
- 39:58Zechariah. So, you're telling me.
- 40:06That the guy secretary. His assistant.
- 40:13Was named among the Mighty Men of David and joab was excluded.
- 40:24Jesus. On the last and final day.
- 40:29I will exalt and esteem those that we did not think he would
- 40:35and will not recognize those that we thought he should.
- 40:41If you're, if you're shocked by this, you're in for your
- 40:46enforce, a shot that might last hundreds of years in eternity.
- 40:51When you see who the Lord will promote and lavish with reward
- 40:57and who he will not even identify as a servant despite
- 41:03their history or their Ministry on Earth.
- 41:10That's that's how much character means to the Lord.
- 41:13Jesus. That's how much Holiness means
- 41:16not. Our Achievements, not are
- 41:18accomplished, not accolades, not what we have on our walls and
- 41:21Frames. Not how many people love us and
- 41:23share our stuff. None of that.
- 41:25What he will esteem. The most is faithfulness done in
- 41:29humility. And running this race.
- 41:33As Timothy says, with the rules that he is established.
- 41:40And so I see something here for myself, Lord I don't care if I'm
- 41:45an armored beer on Earth, if you will.
- 41:48Praise and commend what I was able to offer you from my
- 41:51redeemed status, not for my Redemption but from my forgiving
- 41:55place I'd rather be an armor Bearer than take over cities and
- 41:59Nations. Give me a local church somewhere
- 42:06tucked in some rural area. Instead of preaching Crusades
- 42:12with thousands of people, if it means that at the end of the
- 42:15day, you will look at me and smile.
- 42:20I hope you have the same heart. Let's come back to 2nd Samuel.
- 42:29Let's look at verse 9 and David lived in the stronghold and
- 42:33called at the city of David. That's not an arrogant thing.
- 42:36That's just a way of identifying, his headquarters
- 42:39and David built the city, right all around from the Mellow and
- 42:42word, and David became greater and greater for the Lord.
- 42:47The god of hosts was with him. Now, in the next few verses,
- 42:53what you and I are going to be hold is really just like a
- 42:56snapshot highlight reel of all these good things that happen,
- 42:59right? So almost as if you saw it on
- 43:01film it be that time where you see just like just b-roll shots
- 43:05with like dramatic music. We're just one good thing is
- 43:08happening after the next but here's the issue.
- 43:12If you read this too fast, you might lose sight of something
- 43:16that actually is a hint of another spiritual.
- 43:19Lesson that is instrumental in our own sanctification, and so
- 43:22let's just read it. So we see here that he takes
- 43:25over the city. Not only does he take over the
- 43:27city but he builds a city. He expands the city and it goes
- 43:30beyond those borders, verse 11 and Haram king of Tyre, sent
- 43:33Messengers to David and cedar trees.
- 43:35Also carpenters, and Mason's, who built David, a house and
- 43:39David knew that the Lord had established him King over Israel
- 43:43and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his
- 43:45people Israel. So, now what he had next, you
- 43:48have a form Pagan King Who realizes this this King.
- 43:52David is is somebody special and so he wants to have some kind of
- 43:57Allegiance with him. And so he sends a gift and what
- 44:00does he do? He sends resources and Sons
- 44:01work. Many says, let me build you a
- 44:03palace in the city of David. And on top of that, more
- 44:07importantly, despite the fact that there's great success here,
- 44:10he maintains the health of his soul, how we see here that in
- 44:14verse 12, as we heard he acknowledges God as the source
- 44:17of all his success. God is the one who did this for
- 44:20me and God brought me here to serve others and not serve
- 44:24myself. And so this is great, this is
- 44:26wonderful. And then we read on verse 13.
- 44:30And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem after
- 44:35he came from Hebron and more Sons.
- 44:37And Daughters were born to David.
- 44:38And these are the names of those who are born to him in
- 44:40Jerusalem. Chamois show, Bob Nathan
- 44:43Solomon. If har Eli schewe, Neff, egg
- 44:47yaffa, Eli shama Elida and Ellie fella that I do, okay, The
- 44:54hebrew-speaking, man. So now we see that not only is
- 45:00his kingdom expanding, we see that his family is expanding its
- 45:03growing. Good thing or a bad thing.
- 45:10Bad, thank you, red flag. Not a good sign.
- 45:14If you get caught up in the hype of the Highlight Reel.
- 45:17You think? Yeah?
- 45:17What. Look at this, look, the
- 45:19building. The city's becoming beautiful is
- 45:21becoming stronger than whatever the jebusites could do.
- 45:23We see that? Even now, there's a line says
- 45:25outside, we see that there's there's International
- 45:28recognition and look at David. He's as family is growing too.
- 45:32Red flag red flag because you and I know her Bible is enough
- 45:37to realize that David having more wives and more kids with
- 45:41those wise is a direct violation of Deuteronomy 17, which
- 45:45instructs the nation of Israel, that no King should have more
- 45:49than one wife. What's Happening Here?
- 45:56Everything was so good up to this point.
- 45:58And if we're not familiar with that context, we would think
- 46:00that this is harmless. This is okay, this is, this is
- 46:05just part of the success. This is a warning.
- 46:12This is a warning and here's the warning.
- 46:14When we see how much God is doing to us.
- 46:20And through us, we become strangely confident if we're not
- 46:24careful that there are certain compromises that God will not
- 46:29take into consideration. When we see how much God is
- 46:35doing to us, I can use the word for ice and how much is doing
- 46:41through us. Strange suggestions.
- 46:45Begin to surface? That attempt to convince us that
- 46:50there are certain doors that we can open.
- 46:54And God will wink at it. and, This is the Temptation, not for
- 47:02the suffering but for the successful you know, you have
- 47:05many people who think that when you're suffering you're the most
- 47:07vulnerable to sin and I say it is equally true if not more true
- 47:12that when you're walking in success.
- 47:16That's strange suggestions. Begin to surface in our hearts.
- 47:25That caused us to entertain certain things that don't seem
- 47:28to disturb us though. They are clearly wrong according
- 47:32to God's heart. I remember I don't remember the
- 47:38details of it but I remember reading it and it making an
- 47:40impression on me years ago. Of a study of different pastors
- 47:46who have morally failed. And when they sought to dig in
- 47:51to see why, this was the case, one of the reasons was that some
- 47:56of these men thought that because they were serving the
- 48:00lord for so long that they can please themselves because they
- 48:06thought that in doing. So they would receive relief and
- 48:10God would understand because they have worked so hard for his
- 48:15kingdom. This is what I'm trying to say.
- 48:19Strange suggestions begin to surface and the place of
- 48:24consistent service to the Lord especially when there is
- 48:27promotion and more Effectiveness being realized And what happens
- 48:34really is, people begin to think that rules don't apply or that.
- 48:37God obviously is using me to the degree that he cannot remove me.
- 48:45and so well-known minister in the 80s, and I won't mention his
- 48:49name was Was exposed for a moral failure.
- 48:54And one of the Back stories behind that was that God had
- 48:57sent many warnings to this man. And one of those warning said,
- 49:02you have, you have clearly neglected, your personal time
- 49:05and prayer, your personal time in the word of God.
- 49:08And you're neglecting your time with your wife and if you need
- 49:12to shut down all the Ministries so that you can get back to the
- 49:15basics to the very thing that will anchor, you and your
- 49:17sanctification. And the response of this man who
- 49:20did fall was something along the lines of we're bringing in a
- 49:24million dollars, either a day or a week, we're reaching this many
- 49:30people. I've been anointed by God and
- 49:34you think I'm going to shut this all down.
- 49:40And he dismissed the warning, and not only that, but with
- 49:44arrogance, he responded to his accountability and within a few
- 49:49months he was caught with a prostitute. and so what we see
- 49:55here are our seeds of sin that will later on bring about sorrow
- 50:03to David and the Very Kingdom that he thought would not be
- 50:07affected by these decisions initially, And so let me make
- 50:13that point. Again, we often think that we
- 50:15are most vulnerable to send when we are suffering.
- 50:19When in fact, we are more vulnerable when we are
- 50:21succeeding. and so David at this concluding point, Had a
- 50:31foothold. There was a foothold there that
- 50:33as we will find out later on, would come back to bite him.
- 50:38So we have to be careful. We have to be on watch.
- 50:41We have to be on watch, especially when the fruit of Our
- 50:43Lives seems to just falling everywhere and so many people
- 50:46are benefiting from our lives and being blessed by our lives.
- 50:49Let's look at a Ministry content.
- 50:51A Ministry context here. If God.
- 50:53So chooses to overwhelm us, with greater success in Greater
- 50:58influence, in Greater reach, it is in those.
- 51:00That we need to be peripheral. All the more look, I'll be
- 51:03honest the the times, where we feel like we don't need to pray
- 51:06or the times when we feel like everything's going.
- 51:07Right. It's amazing what chaos and
- 51:09Havoc. Does it throws us on our knees
- 51:12but we must be a people who know early on that not just when
- 51:16things are Troublesome but especially when all is well that
- 51:21we would be even more vigilant. That we would be even more
- 51:26desperate and more careful. Then if things were not going
- 51:32our way, this is the kind of caliber that that we need to
- 51:36reach as Servants of the Lord. Jesus Christ, right?
- 51:40This is why stories like this are given to us so that we
- 51:43ourselves would be equipped to know how to endure, not just
- 51:46suffering. But success, Success.
- 51:52I'll conclude with this, I'll conclude with the gospel.
- 51:56Truth, making a full circle, perhaps you're in this place.
- 52:01You've heard of Jesus Christ. You've heard of the essence of
- 52:05the Christian message, right? You could talk to heathens and
- 52:08I've talked to them, I've talked to them on the streets.
- 52:10I've talked to them, not knowingly at the moment,
- 52:12intoxicated talk them when they stumbled out of clubs and you
- 52:15ask them what Jesus did for Sinners and they'll say he
- 52:18forgave us on the cross, God sent it to die for Since I was
- 52:22their stumbling over their own, their own breath.
- 52:27And so you might have that general knowledge but I have a
- 52:30question for you and it is this is he king of your life?
- 52:35Is he King? Have you declared that?
- 52:38He is the owner. He is the savior and he is the
- 52:43master of your soul. And there's this prophecy.
- 52:49Remember, I've been pointing to a lot of Prophecies of what is
- 52:52yet to come, but there is a well-known prophecy that.
- 52:55Has anybody ever memorized Isaiah 9:6?
- 52:57We usually bring it up at Christmas time.
- 53:01Does anybody know Isaiah 9:6 by heart?
- 53:07Yes, for unto us. A child is born.
- 53:09Child is given right? Yes.
- 53:11Anybody know by heart. Go for it.
- 53:15If, you know it. Okay, that's Isaiah 9:7.
- 53:21So many of us know, Isaiah 9:6 but we don't continue to see
- 53:25Isaiah 9:7 and its implications there.
- 53:28Isaiah 9:7 tells us something concerning the second coming of
- 53:32Christ. The first coming is in Isaiah
- 53:339:6 and the second coming is I Nee 97 Isaiah 9:7 tells and
- 53:37reads of the increase of his government and of Peace.
- 53:41There will be no end. So, when it actually sets up,
- 53:45his government with his government will be unending,
- 53:49peace. That's what this world is
- 53:51looking for, right? But here's the thing, the theme
- 53:54of unending peace will not be known until Christ.
- 53:58Is made king without rival. Only when Christ is unrivaled
- 54:04King. Well, we know unending, peace,
- 54:07and listen. What is true?
- 54:08Globally is true individually. I've been trying to make that
- 54:11case all night that. If you want to know a piece,
- 54:16that doesn't make sense. If you want to know resolve and
- 54:20rest and wholeness in your soul, then you must make him King.
- 54:27Today. And only then will you know, the
- 54:30benefits of his kingship. Is your soul at peace with God?
- 54:38Or are you, are you concerned about your Eternal Faith?
- 54:42Your Eternal destination is your soul at rest to know that you
- 54:47are living in the very purpose and design that you were created
- 54:50for. And that is fellowship with God.
- 54:55Is your sin under the blood of Jesus?
- 54:59Or do you have this concern that as you stand before the Living
- 55:04God? Which we all will and the
- 55:06account of your life is brought forth.
- 55:09That you have, no substitute, you have no payment, it will be,
- 55:13it will be on your shoulders. I present to you the King.
- 55:18Jesus Christ. Who is here to rescue you.
- 55:21He is he wants to save you from your sin.
- 55:24He wants to save you from that. Hollowness in your soul.
- 55:27He wants to fill it with himself.
- 55:29He wants to give you the assurance that you are safe for
- 55:32all of eternity and he wants you to know the blessings that will
- 55:36be in full fruition when he actually physically Returns on
- 55:40this Earth today and day by day. He is a good King.
- 55:48There's no one like him. He's a better King than you are
- 55:52of your own life. You showed up in this world he
- 55:58made you and determined. When you would come into this
- 56:01world, I think he will be a better King than you.
- 56:06And here's the thing, he is not a king who comes with an iron
- 56:09fist. He is a king who comes to die
- 56:13and he did to make that bridge between you and him so that you
- 56:17can enjoy his presence forever and how do you do that?
- 56:20You repent and believe you realize how good he is and has
- 56:24goodness brought himself to the cross for your name and for your
- 56:27sake and for your soul and then you acknowledge that by saying,
- 56:31I don't want this. Send that put him on the cross.
- 56:33I don't want the sin. That condemns me.
- 56:35I want Be rescued by this this man who is the king of all
- 56:40things, and he will save you. Lord.
- 56:43We thank you for this study. And we ask Lord that in this
- 56:47time. There would be a renewed Found
- 56:50Love. For the realities that you've
- 56:54purchased for us. When you become king and we
- 56:57pray. And we ask that for those who
- 57:00might who might not know you in this place that today, they will
- 57:04bow the knee at your throne and they will say, Lord Jesus, I
- 57:09confess you as my savior. I confess that God raise you
- 57:14from the dead. I confess that you are the
- 57:17living Christ and that you have come to rescue.
- 57:20Sinners. I am a sinner saved my soul.
- 57:23I long to be a citizen of your kingdom.
- 57:25I long to live with you for all of eternity and Lord made this
- 57:30may this night be a turning point for someone.
- 57:34And may your kingdom grow through the ministry of
- 57:39Maranatha, Bible Church. Help us be faithful ambassadors
- 57:46of your kingdom and Jesus name we pray.
- 57:49Amen. Let's stand and worship this
- 57:52King together.
