- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff Legwall brought to you by the International Brotherhood of
- 0:02Speaker 1: Electrical Workers IBEW Local sixty eight. You start with the job,
- 0:06Speaker 1: you end with a career, Legy forty four to twenty
- 0:10Speaker 1: four of the Broncos just beat the doors off the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys yesterday. As impressive a four quarter showing as
- 0:19Speaker 1: we have seen out of this team, dominated in the
- 0:22Speaker 1: trenches on both sides of the football. When a team
- 0:26Speaker 1: plays as well as the Broncos did in almost every phase,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and you went back and looked at it and started
- 0:33Speaker 1: diving into the film. What jumped out at you from
- 0:36Speaker 1: that performance by the Broncos, Well, you.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Know it's it's at the risk of banging the drum again.
- 0:44Speaker 2: You know, I go back to what bo Nick said
- 0:46Speaker 2: earlier this season, and it kind of went under the radar,
- 0:50Speaker 2: you know from all of us. Maybe he said, and
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm quoting him, when we run, we score, And I
- 0:59Speaker 2: think that's what you saw is when there is a
- 1:03Speaker 2: committe and again I'm not talking about the fifty to
- 1:06Speaker 2: fifty balance of your but in their three best rushing.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Ball though they did get it yesterday, Leggy, yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 2: No, then their three best rushing games this year they're
- 1:16Speaker 2: far closer to you know, sixty forty, you know, fifty
- 1:21Speaker 2: seven forty three. I mean, they're right in that realm.
- 1:24Speaker 2: In the three games they've they've rushed for at least
- 1:27Speaker 2: one fifty Now, granted it's against three of the of
- 1:31Speaker 2: the poorer defenses they've faced, but I do think it
- 1:35Speaker 2: sets their tempo and it helps Nicks over which, if
- 1:40Speaker 2: you know, if I'm the Broncos, I want to do
- 1:42Speaker 2: anything and everything to help Bo Nicks, you know, be better,
- 1:47Speaker 2: be more comfortable, to keep advancing his career. And you know,
- 1:53Speaker 2: they run the ball well. He throws four touchdown passes.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I mean, and I think coming off the the frantic,
- 2:02Speaker 2: you know, absolutely frantic fourth quarter against the Giants, I
- 2:05Speaker 2: thought that was a good way for them to sort
- 2:07Speaker 2: of regain their balance and move through the game.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Jeff. One of the numbers that really jumped out of me.
- 2:13Speaker 1: They averaged six point four yards per carry yesterday. The
- 2:16Speaker 1: backs averaged four yards to carry before contact. I mean,
- 2:20Speaker 1: that's dominance in the trenches yesterday for the Broncos. The RJ.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Harvey forty yard touchdown run, Jeff, isn't humanly possible to
- 2:31Speaker 1: block on a play better than the Broncos did, and
- 2:36Speaker 1: I mean block at every level, at multiple positions. Like
- 2:41Speaker 1: I went back and rewatched it, like everybody just stuck
- 2:45Speaker 1: their block. In the case of Quinn Minors, he did
- 2:48Speaker 1: it twice on that play. But I have to imagine
- 2:52Speaker 1: Jeff Legwold, appreciator of good fundamental football, you had to
- 2:56Speaker 1: have liked that one.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I did. And I mean that's what they're good. That
- 3:00Speaker 2: this is a big, physical offensive line. It was constructed
- 3:05Speaker 2: to be a big, physical, movement worthy offensive line. And
- 3:11Speaker 2: you know, I have a scout friend who calls what
- 3:16Speaker 2: Minords did on that play chalk outline plays where you
- 3:20Speaker 2: just obliterated defender and he obliterated you know, two of
- 3:25Speaker 2: the poor first guy. You know, I'm not sure when
- 3:29Speaker 2: he got up after that play, he must have felt like,
- 3:33Speaker 2: you know, I was on I was six yards away
- 3:36Speaker 2: from here when I when I last was standing. So
- 3:40Speaker 2: but no, that's I think it's what they do well.
- 3:43Speaker 2: And I know it isn't vogue now and all of
- 3:46Speaker 2: those things, but I do think there is a balance
- 3:50Speaker 2: for them to find and I think, you know, if
- 3:54Speaker 2: Sean Payton can see more and more of the success
- 3:56Speaker 2: with it, maybe they're willing to go through some of
- 3:59Speaker 2: the two yard carries and the one yard carries because
- 4:02Speaker 2: they they had those yesterday, but we don't remember them
- 4:05Speaker 2: because everything else was so good. But Dobbins had a
- 4:09Speaker 2: few one yard carries. He had two carries for negative yardage.
- 4:14Speaker 2: You know, Harvey had a carry for negative yardage, but
- 4:17Speaker 2: you don't remember it because they just sort of stuck
- 4:20Speaker 2: with it. And I think the other stat that jumps
- 4:25Speaker 2: out to me that's important because I believe the draft
- 4:28Speaker 2: is foundational for a team is six touchdowns from first
- 4:33Speaker 2: or second year players that are all their own draft picks.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I think that is you know, you want to be
- 4:39Speaker 2: good over the long haul. That's the kind of thing
- 4:41Speaker 2: you want to see.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Jeff, do they need to Nate Haates's take? At what
- 4:47Speaker 3: point do you think about having a conversation with Dobbins
- 4:50Speaker 3: about next year or beyond? Before you know it gets
- 4:53Speaker 3: even pricier.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Andy, I think with a running back,
- 4:59Speaker 2: I think most teams are going to like hang back
- 5:01Speaker 2: and wait a few moments on that. But no, there's
- 5:04Speaker 2: no question you want to talk about getting good value
- 5:07Speaker 2: for a signing. I mean, he didn't signed to a
- 5:09Speaker 2: mini camp. It was a mandatory mini camp. That's the
- 5:12Speaker 2: last organized on field activity of the off season, and
- 5:17Speaker 2: he signed during that, So that's about as late in
- 5:21Speaker 2: the game as you can get somebody before training camp,
- 5:24Speaker 2: so they're getting spectacular value. I know he wants to
- 5:29Speaker 2: be here, and they certainly like him in the locker
- 5:32Speaker 2: room as much as they do on the field, So
- 5:34Speaker 2: I think I think they will address it. But you know,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I'm not sure I get a sense right now that
- 5:40Speaker 2: they're thinking of an addressing it, you know, right at
- 5:43Speaker 2: this moment. But I think both sides would want to
- 5:46Speaker 2: see something beyond this year.
- 5:47Speaker 1: To rally House Football Monday here on Altitude Sports Radio
- 5:50Speaker 1: ninety two to five, rally House shop every team in
- 5:52Speaker 1: town or next keyword coming up at twenty minutes after
- 5:55Speaker 1: four o'clock for you to be entered to win a
- 5:57Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty dollars gift card to rally House. Jeff,
- 6:02Speaker 1: let's get to the caveat of all the excitement, the
- 6:05Speaker 1: injury stuff. What do we know right now about Patcertan
- 6:09Speaker 1: and Marvin Mimes.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Well, it's pretty quiet on the certain front, which always
- 6:13Speaker 2: makes me wonder because you know, even people I speak
- 6:16Speaker 2: to on a regular basis are not you know, out
- 6:23Speaker 2: in that realm right now. So I I you know,
- 6:26Speaker 2: I know he was, he was going to go through
- 6:29Speaker 2: all the evaluations and the tests. Uh, if it's the shoulder,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know, I've seen guys including Champ Bailey play with
- 6:38Speaker 2: a harness, you know, and and do it that way.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Champ actually played with a harness on for much of
- 6:45Speaker 2: the last many years of his career. So, uh, that
- 6:50Speaker 2: is possible and still played an elite level. You know.
- 6:53Speaker 2: If it's a if it's a peck injury or something
- 6:56Speaker 2: like that, it's it's different. I was told it's a shoulder,
- 6:59Speaker 2: but he again that's not guaranteed, not verified, not you know,
- 7:03Speaker 2: don't take that to the bank or any of that.
- 7:05Speaker 2: But he was being evaluated, you know, last night and
- 7:09Speaker 2: this morning. So I think that's where they're at. They
- 7:12Speaker 2: they will likely have MRI results in hand and making
- 7:15Speaker 2: decisions at that point. You know. The other concern is
- 7:19Speaker 2: they're a little light at tight end now if Atkinson's
- 7:22Speaker 2: knee injury is going to be an issue, so they
- 7:26Speaker 2: may be looking to to to get another tight end
- 7:30Speaker 2: in here as well.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And then this is just a protocol thing.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Now, well he is in the protocol, and now it's
- 7:37Speaker 2: just how you progress us brute. It was interesting today
- 7:41Speaker 2: that Sean and some of us had thought this was
- 7:44Speaker 2: the case watching it happen live, but they were really
- 7:48Speaker 2: trying to get him off the field before that kickoff return,
- 7:52Speaker 2: and they sent Tyler Beday on, and Beday somehow he
- 7:57Speaker 2: and Harvey made the switch and Harvey came out instead
- 8:02Speaker 2: of Mims, and the day went in and Mims actually
- 8:06Speaker 2: ended up getting injured on that kickoff. But I'm also
- 8:11Speaker 2: curious Mimes took a huge helmet to helmet Git earlier
- 8:15Speaker 2: in the game, and I think the kickoff return was
- 8:18Speaker 2: probably more residual after that earlier.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I was gonna say, did you guys notice the next
- 8:25Speaker 1: past to Mimes? He dropped it and it was thrown
- 8:27Speaker 1: directly to him. And as soon as I saw that,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I was like, oh, all right, okay, I did just
- 8:32Speaker 1: my enough.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I was really surprised the spotter didn't stop play. It
- 8:37Speaker 2: was a big enormous helmet to helmet hit right on
- 8:42Speaker 2: the Broncos sideline.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Uh, Jeff, who else if you were to give us
- 8:46Speaker 3: some of the unsung heroes of yesterday, who'd be a
- 8:48Speaker 3: couple people that you maybe single out. I mean, there
- 8:51Speaker 3: it just feels like the most well it is not
- 8:54Speaker 3: feels it's the most complete game they played in quite
- 8:56Speaker 3: a while, probably the most complete game of the Sean
- 8:58Speaker 3: Payton era. I'm pretty u ready to say, but who
- 9:01Speaker 3: would you single out of some unsung heroes?
- 9:03Speaker 2: Well, you got to give Abram Strain some love, because
- 9:07Speaker 2: that ain't easy. Hey go in for certain, and you know,
- 9:11Speaker 2: they didn't change the defensive game plan much after he
- 9:14Speaker 2: went in there. They dialed it back a smidge, but
- 9:18Speaker 2: he was basically tossed in there and and and played
- 9:22Speaker 2: like he did in training camp in the preseason. So
- 9:26Speaker 2: I think he fared really well. I think Justin Sternod
- 9:30Speaker 2: needs to get a little shout out for how he's
- 9:33Speaker 2: He's he's a much better, more well rounded player than
- 9:36Speaker 2: when he's been asked to do as much of what
- 9:41Speaker 2: he's being asked to do right now before and he's
- 9:43Speaker 2: actually carved out a sort of a nice niche as
- 9:47Speaker 2: a pass rusher blitzer, but he's playing the run great.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I think he and Singleton had a really good game
- 9:53Speaker 2: as a group as a pair yesterday, and just you know,
- 9:58Speaker 2: Paulchesky filling in the way he is. I'm just telling
- 10:03Speaker 2: you that guy may be a guard for a long
- 10:04Speaker 2: time now, whether he knows it or not, but he
- 10:08Speaker 2: he is. He is playing really well. But I think
- 10:10Speaker 2: I think those would be the guys I think off
- 10:12Speaker 2: right right, off.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Hand, bon nigs Back.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Allen, bt Allen. It just consistently. You know, he doesn't
- 10:19Speaker 2: get the sort of a flamboyance of Benito and Cooper.
- 10:23Speaker 2: But much like Derek Wolf in the in the twenty
- 10:26Speaker 2: fifteen group, not much good happens if you don't have
- 10:29Speaker 2: that guy in the middle.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Jeff bow was nineteen to twenty nine two forty seven,
- 10:35Speaker 1: four touchdowns yesterday, did have the early interception, but boy
- 10:38Speaker 1: did he ever bounce back from that. As the sample
- 10:42Speaker 1: size grows larger, the more you watch this guy play football,
- 10:47Speaker 1: what are the keys that tells for you the difference
- 10:50Speaker 1: between good Bow and erratic Bow.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I go from the ground up, Nate. You know, when
- 10:55Speaker 2: his footwork is right, he's exponential, a better quarterback. When
- 11:01Speaker 2: his footwork is wrong, you get the first interception. And
- 11:05Speaker 2: even you know, Sean Payton even said after the game
- 11:08Speaker 2: his feet got away from him a little bit, and
- 11:11Speaker 2: that you know, look, that's true for every quarterback. I
- 11:14Speaker 2: just think we've in this era, we've become so infatuated
- 11:18Speaker 2: with the off platform throw that we forget over the
- 11:22Speaker 2: long haul, you're still going to need that footwork, and
- 11:25Speaker 2: the off platform stuff has to be like your you know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: the the dessert you need once in a while. You
- 11:32Speaker 2: know that play you got to make once in a while.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It can't be your your foundational But when his footwork
- 11:38Speaker 2: is right, that's when he's at his best. And I
- 11:41Speaker 2: think he's getting better at understanding what defenses are trying
- 11:45Speaker 2: to do to him. And that tells me he spends
- 11:48Speaker 2: an awful lot of time breaking it down and that
- 11:51Speaker 2: he's a he's a pretty accountable player and and sort
- 11:55Speaker 2: of learning what what are people trying to do to
- 11:57Speaker 2: me to make my life difficult?
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah? Well yeah, yesterday nobody made his life difficulty. Barely
- 12:02Speaker 1: got breathed on h He's Jefflegwalld. Everybody, ESPN dot Com
- 12:06Speaker 1: re leggy stuff right now. We'll talk to him again
- 12:09Speaker 1: on Friday ahead of the Texans game. Jeff, great stuff
- 12:12Speaker 1: as always, man, Thank you, thanks fellows.
- 12:14Speaker 2: We'll see it
