Speaker 5: we have a Democrat who's running for state Senate. His
• 2:23
Speaker 5: name is Michael Carr. He's going to join us now.
• 2:25
Speaker 5: We want to introduce you to a Republican candidate for
• 2:28
Speaker 5: State Senate District seven, and she's the person currently sitting
• 2:32
Speaker 5: in that seat. She's Anne Sharon I and she joins
• 2:33
Speaker 5: us now in the junior construction studio. This good morning,
• 2:36
Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
• 2:37
Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, thanks for having me.
• 2:38
  Speaker 6: Ben.
• 2:39
Speaker 2: I'm in the seventeenth I sis I left my one off.
• 2:42
Speaker 5: I apologie. What district did I just put you in?
• 2:45
Speaker 2: You put me in Logan, Southern Kenak County and Lincoln.
• 2:48
  Speaker 5: Okay, I have perfect I apologize numbers they're hard. I
• 2:53
Speaker 5: do all these notes, and I leave one little letter.
• 2:55
Speaker 5: Math was never my strong suit. Seventeenth I apologize for that.
• 2:58
Speaker 5: Thank you very much. Let's start over. Welcome in, Sharna,
• 3:01
  Speaker 5: carry you.
• 3:02
  Speaker 2: I'm doing well.
• 3:03
Speaker 5: Thank you all right, So give us the bio on
• 3:06
Speaker 5: Ann Charnock. Tell us all about yourself.
• 3:09
Speaker 2: I'm Anne Sharnock. I'm a lifelong resident of Kanall County.
• 3:13
  Speaker 2: I'm a graduate of West Virginia University. I'm a lawyer
• 3:16
Speaker 2: and I've practiced law at the family firm for well
• 3:19
Speaker 2: more years than I want. A state and I was
• 3:22
Speaker 2: appointed to the State Senate by the governor two sessions ago,
• 3:26
Speaker 2: in February of twenty twenty five, and I'm seeking to
• 3:30
Speaker 2: fill the unexpired term.
• 3:32
Speaker 5: So with that background, of course, you were appointed in
• 3:34
Speaker 5: that seat. As you said, why did you decide to
• 3:37
Speaker 5: allow yourself to be appointed to that or get into
• 3:40
Speaker 5: politics in general? Because you've run for other things. So
• 3:42
Speaker 5: tell me about why a foray into politics.
• 3:44
  Speaker 7: At some point.
• 3:47
Speaker 2: I come from a family that has been involved in
• 3:51
Speaker 2: politics for a long time, and I have always been
• 3:54
Speaker 2: interested in politics. I tell friends, I'm just an old
• 3:58
Speaker 2: polysym major from w and serving in the State Senate
• 4:04
Speaker 2: is everything I learned in four years of political signs,
• 4:08
Speaker 2: and the next time, when I live this again, I'll
• 4:12
Speaker 2: take a few more psychology classes.
• 4:14
Speaker 5: You probably couldn't heard, kiddings. Was when you made it
• 4:17
Speaker 5: and you were appointed to the state Senate seat? Was
• 4:19
Speaker 5: it everything you thought it would be? There are always
• 4:22
Speaker 5: surprises coming in. Just talk about your experience.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: I had served. I had served as a lawyer for
• 4:31
Speaker 2: the House Judiciary Committee a couple of years before, so
• 4:34
Speaker 2: I had an understanding of the rhythm the process. Now,
• 4:38
Speaker 2: please don't think that the House and the Senator are alike.
• 4:41
Speaker 2: They're not. They're completely different, but the process is very,
• 4:46
Speaker 2: very similar. So I had that going into that. Has
• 4:50
Speaker 2: it been everything I thought it was? I'm not sure
• 4:52
Speaker 2: I knew what I thought it was, but it certainly
• 4:55
Speaker 2: has been interesting. There's a lot of work, there are
• 4:58
Speaker 2: a lot of people, lots of listening, lots of reading,
• 5:03
Speaker 2: and that's exactly what I expected.
• 5:07
Speaker 5: What's what's left undone if the voters decide to re
• 5:12
Speaker 5: elect you to the Senate? And what is what are
• 5:14
Speaker 5: some things that are on your your wish or want
• 5:16
Speaker 5: list for future sessions if you're re elected?
• 5:19
Speaker 2: Well, I think the number one thing is We've got
• 5:21
Speaker 2: to continue doing the work to make the economy in
• 5:24
Speaker 2: this state better. There are and that that covers a facet.
• 5:29
Speaker 2: Strength and education. We work on child welfare, We protect
• 5:33
Speaker 2: the vulnerable, we protect the elderly. Law and order. It's
• 5:38
Speaker 2: such a big thing these you know, in this day
• 5:41
Speaker 2: and age. So there's infrastructure, there's so much more to do.
• 5:45
Speaker 2: But we're on the right path and I'd like to
• 5:49
Speaker 2: continue working on that path.
• 5:51
Speaker 5: Also campaign for you, Ben.
• 5:54
  Speaker 2: It's been good. It's been busy. It's interesting. I that
• 6:00
Speaker 2: is something I didn't really know what to expect. Yes,
• 6:04
Speaker 2: I have run for office before, but legislative offices are
• 6:08
Speaker 2: a different breedock hat as we say. And it's been
• 6:12
Speaker 2: but it's been good. I've enjoyed it, you know.
• 6:15
Speaker 5: And it's it's changed a lot the the the campaigning
• 6:18
Speaker 5: over the last couple of years, because it used to
• 6:20
Speaker 5: be in campaigns, you know, you always you always do
• 6:24
Speaker 5: door to door and you always do sign waving, candidate forums,
• 6:27
Speaker 5: things of that nature, by your radio ads, which we
• 6:29
Speaker 5: hope you do by radio ads, do television, newspaper billboards,
• 6:32
Speaker 5: you know, signs whatever. But now with social media, it's
• 6:36
Speaker 5: become a totally totally not saying good or bad. I'm
• 6:40
Speaker 5: just saying's totally different.
• 6:40
Speaker 2: Senator, No, absolutely it has. I mean, gone are the
• 6:44
Speaker 2: days where you know your major source was newspaper ads.
• 6:51
Speaker 2: I don't know that you see that anymore. Gone or that?
• 6:54
Speaker 2: And gone are the days, well, I shouldn't say gone
• 6:57
  Speaker 2: are the days.
• 6:58
Speaker 5: Here are the days.
• 6:59
Speaker 2: We're social media. It's just done everything. I mean there
• 7:03
Speaker 2: you get on there and there's just stuff going all
• 7:06
Speaker 2: the time. And that wasn't That was different the text
• 7:09
Speaker 2: messages that you're getting people didn't goodness, gracious, we didn't
• 7:13
Speaker 2: do that. So it is different. But it's all the
• 7:16
Speaker 2: point is to be able to communicate your message to
• 7:19
Speaker 2: the voter. They're just different ways of communications. When you
• 7:22
Speaker 2: sell potato chips, you do it differently now than you
• 7:25
Speaker 2: did thirty years ago. So yeah, it has changed.
• 7:28
Speaker 5: Souk to Senator in Sharnock nine point fifteen. If you
• 7:31

• 7:50
Speaker 5: wv metronews dot com. Again, the application deadline is May third,
• 7:53
Speaker 5: which is this Sunday. Talking about the campaign, a lot
• 7:57
Speaker 5: of folks have said that among the because this is
• 7:59
Speaker 5: a very very hotly contested Republican primary across the state
• 8:03
Speaker 5: of West Virginia, all races, I mean something that we
• 8:07
Speaker 5: didn't we didn't see years ago. I mean, because the
• 8:11
Speaker 5: tide is kind of turned, you know, back in the
• 8:12
Speaker 5: days I can remember when in certain counties in southern
• 8:15
Speaker 5: West Virginia we may as well not have even had
• 8:17
Speaker 5: a Republican party because everybody was on the other side.
• 8:20
Speaker 5: Now it's starting to starting to switch. What do you
• 8:23
Speaker 5: what do you make of some of the negativity that's
• 8:25
Speaker 5: come out in some some of the races.
• 8:30
Speaker 2: Well, it certainly has changed. As a Republican I was,
• 8:34
Speaker 2: I've been a Republican since I was old enough to
• 8:36
Speaker 2: register to vote. And yes, there were not many candidates,
• 8:40
Speaker 2: but I believed in those Republican principles. Nobody likes negative stuff.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: But that's where we are today. That is our right.
• 8:51
Speaker 2: That's our right to express that's our right expressing what
• 8:54
Speaker 2: we what we want or what we don't want. It's there, yea.
• 9:01
Speaker 2: And most and much of it is not candidate involved.
• 9:07
Speaker 2: If there's a group out there saying something or another
• 9:11
Speaker 2: proer for proer against me, I can't coordinate with them.
• 9:16
Speaker 2: They can't coordinate with me. There have been times you
• 9:19
Speaker 2: open the mailbox and you see something I did not
• 9:24
Speaker 2: know about that, but that But that's the law, and
• 9:27
  Speaker 2: that's what's allowed.
• 9:28
Speaker 5: A lot of people don't realize that. Yeah, do you
• 9:30
Speaker 5: have a website or social media?
• 9:32
  Speaker 8: I do.
• 9:33
Speaker 2: It is Sharknock four as an fo.

Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm Ann Sharnock, and I am seeking I

Speaker 2: lifelong Republican, lifetime resident of Kenall County. My conservative voting
• 10:06
Speaker 2: record will show my commitment to conservative values. I want
• 10:10
Speaker 2: to lower taxes, I want to improve law and order.
• 10:15
Speaker 2: I want to make strengthen our education system, funder infrastructure,
• 10:22
Speaker 2: and all of these go to the greater goal of
• 10:24
Speaker 2: making West Virginia the place that one wants to live.
• 10:28
Speaker 2: One wants to raise a family, one wants to worship,
• 10:31
Speaker 2: one wants to work, one wants to go to school.
• 10:35
Speaker 2: These conservative values are going to make West Virginia a

Speaker 2: better place, and that's why I'm asking for your support.
• 10:43
Speaker 2: My name is Anne Sharnock, and I'm running for the

• 13:51
Speaker 11: Good morning Dave. How you doing.
• 13:53
Speaker 5: I am doing fine. Thank you for being here. Senator.
• 13:55
Speaker 5: I want to start off on a serious note. We
• 13:57
Speaker 5: were all stunned Saturday night when we saw the scene
• 14:01
Speaker 5: at the White House Correspondence dinner when someone stormed the proceedings.
• 14:05
Speaker 5: I thought I'd give you a chance to speak on that.
• 14:07
  Speaker 3: Well.
• 14:08
Speaker 11: I think it was a terrifying evening. I was not there,
• 14:11
Speaker 11: and I had a couple of people ask me if
• 14:14
Speaker 11: I was there. I have attended it before and it's
• 14:16
Speaker 11: a very widely attend you know, festive kind of evening.
• 14:19
Speaker 11: And I think the a couple things. First of all,
• 14:23
Speaker 11: the violence that we're seeing in the and the attempt
• 14:27
Speaker 11: at assassinations of President Trump are rather stunning. I think
• 14:31
Speaker 11: he you know, he rode this one out pretty well,
• 14:33
Speaker 11: but I think it obviously shook up the first lady
• 14:36
Speaker 11: and others who were in the room. I think that
• 14:40
Speaker 11: they are assessing, now, you know, the perimeter and and
• 14:43
Speaker 11: how close did he get Apparently got pretty close to
• 14:46
Speaker 11: actually getting into the ballroom. I'm familiar with the area,
• 14:50
Speaker 11: and so I think they're looking at the you know,
• 14:53
Speaker 11: the Secret Service and Homeland Security to tighten it up
• 14:57
Speaker 11: even more. And you know, if you've ever been to
• 15:00
Speaker 11: a big event like this, it's kind of difficult to
• 15:02
Speaker 11: get in anyway. There's long lines. But I'm just thankful
• 15:06
Speaker 11: that the Secret Service, the Washington DC Police, the Capitol Police,
• 15:10
Speaker 11: and others reacted as quickly as they did and were
• 15:13
Speaker 11: able to take him down.
• 15:14
Speaker 5: Senator I will say I think the Wall Street Journal
• 15:16
Speaker 5: did a very good piece on this Monday when they
• 15:19
Speaker 5: described the whole thing, and it was definitely a breakdown
• 15:22
Speaker 5: of some sort, because, as you said, it should be
• 15:24
Speaker 5: and has been in the past, very difficult to get in.
• 15:27
Speaker 5: But there was one quote from someone that said all
• 15:29
Speaker 5: they apparently needed was to check into the hotel and
• 15:31
  Speaker 5: that there wouldn't be a problem. So I think something's
• 15:34
Speaker 5: got to be addressed.
• 15:35
Speaker 11: Yeah, I don't think that's going to be happening again.
• 15:37
Speaker 11: I mean, you think about yeah, that's an easy thing.
• 15:40
Speaker 11: I'm sure some of the video are the cameras that
• 15:42
Speaker 11: they're probably combing through from the day before, probably has
• 15:45
Speaker 11: this guy case in the joint measuring his steps and
• 15:48
Speaker 11: all those kinds of things. Yeah, and so there were
• 15:52
Speaker 11: some breakdowns, but I think all in all, you know,
• 15:54
Speaker 11: nobody was hurt. The Secret Service agent that was hit
• 15:57
Speaker 11: as fine, And so I think that it's scary and
• 16:04
Speaker 11: it's frightening and it shouldn't be happening.
• 16:07
Speaker 5: Talking to Senator Shelley Moore, Capito also, I didn't want
• 16:09
Speaker 5: to mention early voting begins to day across the state
• 16:11
Speaker 5: to West Virginia. So I'm sure you want to take
• 16:12
Speaker 5: time to encourage people to get out and vote.
• 16:15
Speaker 11: Yes, I think you know, when early voting first came about,
• 16:18
Speaker 11: I thought, oh, this really won't you know a lot
• 16:20
Speaker 11: of people. Some people will do it, but you know
• 16:23
Speaker 11: it won't be taken up in the measures that everybody thought.
• 16:26
Speaker 11: And I was wrong on that. I mean, I think
• 16:28
Speaker 11: that's over forty percent of the actual vote is expected
• 16:31
Speaker 11: to be early voting. So I've voted early many times
• 16:35
Speaker 11: in Kanawk County. I encourage everybody to vote with early voting.
• 16:38
Speaker 11: That alleviates your excuses on election day, and so get
• 16:43
Speaker 11: yourself and your family down there to vote. It's a
• 16:45
Speaker 11: great American habit. This is our two hundred and fiftieth anniversary.
• 16:49
Speaker 11: We should celebrate our right to vote.
• 16:51
Speaker 5: And I'm going to go over those lists a little
• 16:53
Speaker 5: bit later on the show. Senator Capitol of the places
• 16:55
Speaker 5: in Kanawak County and Putnam County that you can early vote.
• 16:57
Speaker 5: I want to ask you about the goings on with
• 17:00
Speaker 5: the Department of Education. Now, you chaired a sub committee
• 17:03
Speaker 5: on the budget for the Department of Education.
• 17:05
Speaker 11: Your takeaway from that, Well, Secretary of McMahon is the
• 17:09
Speaker 11: Secretary of Education, and she's been tasked with and I
• 17:12
Speaker 11: just think is very has been very successful in making
• 17:16
Speaker 11: sure that education dollars really get as close as possible
• 17:20
Speaker 11: to the students. So that means states, localities, counties, teachers, parents,
• 17:24
Speaker 11: school boards in West Virginia are the ones who are
• 17:27
Speaker 11: making the decisions for the education of our students. I mean,
• 17:31
Speaker 11: we see the national test scores in West Virginia's in
• 17:33
Speaker 11: this category where the students haven't really they've fallen way
• 17:38
Speaker 11: behind after COVID and they still haven't recovered. And you know,
• 17:41
Speaker 11: I think it's over half of our fourth graders can't
• 17:43
Speaker 11: read on a fourth grade level. And that is and
• 17:47
Speaker 11: not you know, terrible statistics, not just that, but we
• 17:50
Speaker 11: have to find solutions for it. And I think the
• 17:52
Speaker 11: solutions are at the localities. I think the West Virginia
• 17:55
Speaker 11: legislature did a good job to devote more dollars to
• 17:58
Speaker 11: early learning and reading and numerology and adding and subtracting
• 18:03
Speaker 11: phonics and all the basics. And I think you see
• 18:06
Speaker 11: our test scores moving up slightly, and it's because of
• 18:09
Speaker 11: that concentration that our local folks made to how to educate.
• 18:14
Speaker 11: So she's been moving, for instance, the Career and Technical
• 18:17
Speaker 11: dollars over the Department of Labor, where there's a lot
• 18:20
Speaker 11: of workforce. She's been overseeing making sure that the student
• 18:26
Speaker 11: loan program gets back on track, where we have over
• 18:28
Speaker 11: trillion dollars of unpaid Some people haven't paid anything on
• 18:32
Speaker 11: their student loan for five or six years because of
• 18:34
Speaker 11: all the confusion during the Biden administration. So she covered
• 18:38
Speaker 11: a lot of grounds. She I think is working to
• 18:41
Speaker 11: dismantle a large bureaucracy that in the end doesn't help
• 18:45
Speaker 11: educate our students, and the money goes, you know, more
• 18:48
Speaker 11: block branding down to the states, which I agree with.
• 18:51
Speaker 11: For West Virginia's to be able to make our own decision.
• 18:54
Speaker 5: Senator Capitol, you posted on X a couple of days ago,
• 18:57
Speaker 5: and this is quote now more than ever, we must
• 18:59
Speaker 5: find the seek Service along with the entirety of the HS.
• 19:03
  Speaker 5: Expound upon that.
• 19:05
Speaker 11: Well, I mean, I'm very frustrated by this. I mean,
• 19:07
Speaker 11: we have voted sixteen seventeen times to fund the whole
• 19:10
Speaker 11: entire Department of Homeland Security, which includes a Secret Service,
• 19:14
Speaker 11: Coast Guard, and others besides border patrol and the Internal Enforcement,
• 19:20
Speaker 11: the ICE and so the You know, honestly, the Democrats
• 19:22
Speaker 11: will not vote for this. They voted against funding our
• 19:26
Speaker 11: secret Service. We sent a bill over to the House
• 19:30
Speaker 11: two or three weeks ago that would fund all of
• 19:32
Speaker 11: the functions except for ice and border patrol. And we
• 19:36
Speaker 11: said we will come in with a funding mechanism that
• 19:39
Speaker 11: would be a what's called reconciliation, which we did last week.
• 19:44
Speaker 11: But now everybody kept saying something's going to happen. Well,
• 19:47
Speaker 11: you know what, something did happen, and a lot of
• 19:49
Speaker 11: those agents, some of them are being paid, some of
• 19:52
Speaker 11: them are not. Some of their equipment or the folks
• 19:55
Speaker 11: that help them with their expenses. You know that are
• 19:58
Speaker 11: contractors with the Secret Service have not been paid. People
• 20:02
Speaker 11: can't take this for very long, and they've had to
• 20:05
Speaker 11: take it way too long, and it's time to join
• 20:07
Speaker 11: together and fund not just the Secret Service, but the
• 20:10
Speaker 11: entirety of homeland security.
• 20:13
Speaker 5: You in one of your quotes on X and I'm
• 20:16
Speaker 5: going to kind of paraphrase this, you basically accused the
• 20:19
Speaker 5: Democrats of turning their backs on our nation's law enforcement officers.
• 20:22
Speaker 5: I think that was a direct quote. It was a
• 20:24
  Speaker 5: pretty harsh word.
• 20:25
Speaker 11: Senator Well, I think you know when you when you're saying,
• 20:28
Speaker 11: and I think Senator Schumer is quoted as saying, nobody
• 20:31
Speaker 11: has respect for border patrol or ice enforcement. Excuse me,
• 20:36
Speaker 11: During the last administration, ten million people were allowed to
• 20:40
Speaker 11: come through the open doors of our border, and our
• 20:45
Speaker 11: border agents were really having to manage a situation that
• 20:50
Speaker 11: was unmanageable. This President, and with the help of Congress
• 20:53
Speaker 11: and others such as myself, have said no, we're not
• 20:56
Speaker 11: going to have an open border. We're going to have
• 20:58
Speaker 11: an orderly process. But we need border agents for that,
• 21:01
Speaker 11: and I have high respect for that. They're disrupting drug trafficking,
• 21:04
Speaker 11: which is down fifty three percent, the drug trafficking of
• 21:07
Speaker 11: fentanyl is down fifty three percent. But when you see
• 21:10
Speaker 11: that the Democrats and the leader of the Democrat Party
• 21:13
Speaker 11: here in the Senate basically saying no one has respect.
• 21:16
Speaker 11: These guys are putting their lives on the line every
• 21:18
Speaker 11: day with dangerous people. I don't think that's harsh language
• 21:23
Speaker 11: to say they're turning their back. That's what their verbiage is,
• 21:26
Speaker 11: that's what their conversation is, and they think they're scoring
• 21:29
Speaker 11: political points. And I'm a very pro law enforcement. I
• 21:34
Speaker 11: want to see our lawful lives be restored, and I'm
• 21:41
Speaker 11: going to help however I can and be appreciative for
• 21:44
Speaker 11: those people that do this very difficult work.
• 21:47
Speaker 5: Sender Capitot what's on your agenda today?
• 21:50
Speaker 11: Well, today I'm going to have Secretary or the administrator
• 21:54
Speaker 11: from the EPA and my EPA Environmental Public Works Committee.
• 21:59
Speaker 11: We'll talk about a lot of good work that he's
• 22:01
Speaker 11: done on deregulation, on making sure that our energy production
• 22:06
Speaker 11: is as good as it is and better than it
• 22:08
Speaker 11: can be, just common sense regulation. We'll have him today,
• 22:13
Speaker 11: and you know so it'll be a busy day.
• 22:16
Speaker 5: Senator Shelley Moore, Capitol. It's always a pleasure for you
• 22:18
  Speaker 5: to take time.
• 22:18
Speaker 11: Wait a minute, I got to meet the King of England. Yes, okay,
• 22:21
Speaker 11: that was a big highlight.
• 22:23
Speaker 5: Oh there was that that little thing, So tell me
• 22:25
Speaker 5: how was how was the King of England?
• 22:27
Speaker 11: Well, my fifteen seconds with the King of England and
• 22:31
Speaker 11: the Queen he refers to as the Queen, we're pretty cool.
• 22:35
Speaker 11: It's one of those like little girl things you think. Man,
• 22:37
Speaker 11: if I could ever meet the King of England, well,
• 22:39
Speaker 11: I got to meet him and he very nice. I said, hello,
• 22:42
Speaker 11: I hope you give a barn burning speech and he said, oh,
• 22:46
Speaker 11: I'm not so suched about that, and I moved on.
• 22:49
Speaker 11: But I enjoyed his speech a lot. It was very
• 22:52
Speaker 11: utifying but it was. It was kind of neat to
• 22:53
Speaker 11: meet a king and to meet the queen.
• 22:55
Speaker 5: You should invite him back to Knaw County some point.
• 22:58
Speaker 5: We'll put him on a four wheeler of cabin creek
• 23:00
Speaker 5: or somewhere. Senator, I mean we just he can just
• 23:02
Speaker 5: be one of us.
• 23:03
Speaker 11: He could be one of us. I'm not sure that's
• 23:06
  Speaker 11: quite right.
• 23:06
Speaker 5: We could sender Shelley Moore Cabinet. Appreciate you being on
• 23:10
  Speaker 5: the show.
• 23:10
Speaker 2: Thanks a lot, all right, Dave, thank you, all right.

• 29:26
  Speaker 7: You know?
• 29:27
Speaker 4: I thought about that when I was listening to some
• 29:28
Speaker 4: of the interviews on here, and initially it was about
• 29:32
Speaker 4: my daughter. You know, I want her to have a
• 29:35
Speaker 4: future here is really what's important to me. And but
• 29:42
Speaker 4: I think there are a lot of important issues here,
• 29:45
Speaker 4: so I actually wrote. I wrote a lot of them
• 29:48
  Speaker 4: down so ahead I wouldn't even your time. I wouldn't
• 29:51
Speaker 4: want to forget them. But water was a big one
• 29:57
Speaker 4: for me because there's a lot of people in my
• 29:59
Speaker 4: day district that don't have access to clean water. And uh,
• 30:04
Speaker 4: I thought, well that's kind of important. You know, people
• 30:08
  Speaker 4: die without water.
• 30:09
Speaker 5: I want to make sure people realize about the district
• 30:11
Speaker 5: that you're in, because you said that you're you're out

Speaker 4: Boone County, Lincoln County, and Logan County. And there are
• 30:28
Speaker 4: people there that don't have water, I mean, no access
• 30:31
Speaker 4: to clean water. It's a in this day and age,
• 30:34
  Speaker 4: it's just a it's a horrible shame. But I wanted
• 30:38
Speaker 4: to grow. I wanted to I wanted to run because
• 30:40
Speaker 4: of my daughter. I want to ensure that she's got
• 30:44
Speaker 4: a place here in West Virginia. I mean, you know,
• 30:46
Speaker 4: if she's got to have water, we've got to have power,
• 30:49
Speaker 4: We've got to have all those things.
• 30:51
Speaker 7: So that's why I decided to run.
• 30:54
Speaker 5: What are some of the other issues that are important
• 30:56
Speaker 5: to you or that you think would be important to voters?
• 30:59
  Speaker 7: Uh?
• 31:00
Speaker 4: Uh, well, it seems to me, you know, with all
• 31:02
Speaker 4: the meetings I've been having that, uh, these data centers
• 31:07
Speaker 4: are a big problem for some people. But I've been
• 31:11
Speaker 4: thinking for a long time that just the corporations themselves.
• 31:16
Speaker 4: I mean they're so huge that the corporations themselves have
• 31:19
Speaker 4: been the problem. And I think that's been our problem
• 31:22
Speaker 4: for a long time in West Virginia. You know, a
• 31:24
Speaker 4: big coal company might come in and say, hey, I
• 31:27
Speaker 4: want to buy your mountain, but I'll tell you what.
• 31:29
Speaker 4: We'll give you a job. We'll give your whole family
• 31:31
Speaker 4: a job. You know, really, my whole family gets a job,
• 31:35
Speaker 4: and you pay me for my mountain, and then you know,
• 31:38
Speaker 4: before we know it, there's you know, you've got eighty
• 31:42
Speaker 4: hour work weeks, and everybody's trying to figure out how
• 31:45
Speaker 4: to buy a blanket, a blanket with company script. You know,
• 31:50
Speaker 4: we just we've been sold down the river our by
• 31:53
Speaker 4: our leaders and uh and and bought out and taken in.
• 31:57
Speaker 4: And I think what we need to do is all
• 32:00
Speaker 4: back control of our own state. I think we've got
• 32:06
Speaker 4: to get the people back their power. That's what's important
• 32:10
Speaker 4: to me. I think we need to empower West Virginians.
• 32:13
Speaker 4: That sounds corny, and I'm sorry, but it's on your heart, man.
• 32:17
Speaker 4: We just need to we need to empower West Virginians
• 32:20
Speaker 4: because you know, to have what happened with that data center,
• 32:24
Speaker 4: and and I don't like the idea that they get,
• 32:26
Speaker 4: you know, tax breaks and that kind of thing. And
• 32:29
Speaker 4: you know where they're building the data center, for instance,
• 32:31
Speaker 4: there's people there. They're building this huge fiber data center
• 32:36
Speaker 4: for everybody on the Internet to come down. There's people
• 32:39
Speaker 4: out there in Robertsburg where they're building this thing who
• 32:41
Speaker 4: don't have access to internet. Up Manilla Creek, they don't
• 32:44
Speaker 4: have access to the Internet. You know that they get
• 32:48
Speaker 4: to wave with the people going by on the internet
• 32:50
Speaker 4: on the fiber, but they don't have access.
• 32:53
  Speaker 7: Seems weird.
• 32:54
Speaker 5: Talking to Michael Carr again, who is running for State
• 32:58
Speaker 5: Senate in District seven. Campaign been so far and as
• 33:01
Speaker 5: you've been out and about either you know, knocking doors,
• 33:04
Speaker 5: sign waving, Canada Form, whatever you've been doing. What has
• 33:07
Speaker 5: the response been. What are you hearing from prospective voters.
• 33:12
Speaker 4: Well, I'm a Democrat, so what I'm hearing is that
• 33:16
Speaker 4: it's an uphill battle. We've got, you know, a lot
• 33:21
Speaker 4: of issues in West Virginia, and you know, we can't
• 33:24
Speaker 4: really attack all of them. Some people right now, the
• 33:28
Speaker 4: person in charge of in the Senate representing our district
• 33:33
Speaker 4: was appointed by Governor Morrissey.
• 33:35
Speaker 7: Now, I don't know how you feel about carpetbaggers.
• 33:37
Speaker 4: I personally don't like them, but you know, when they
• 33:41
Speaker 4: appoint someone, it doesn't seem fair. So I'm hearing that
• 33:46
  Speaker 4: they're glad I'm running. There's a lot more Democrats on
• 33:49
Speaker 4: the ballot this year and there have been in recent.
• 33:53
  Speaker 7: Years, So.
• 33:55
Speaker 4: We'd like to claw a little bit in the power
• 33:57
Speaker 4: back and start seeding it back to the people of
• 33:59
  Speaker 4: West Virginia.
• 34:00
Speaker 5: You alluded to the fact that it is kind of
• 34:03
Speaker 5: difficult for Democrats right now in West Virginia, just as
• 34:06
Speaker 5: fifty years ago it was difficult for Republicans in West Virginia.
• 34:09
Speaker 5: Is that that's something that you really got Any Democrat,
• 34:12
Speaker 5: not just you, has to really try to fight to
• 34:14
Speaker 5: overcome in a crowded field of Republicans and a super
• 34:19
  Speaker 5: duper majority.
• 34:19
Speaker 4: It's tough fight, yeah, it is, and but family is
• 34:25
Speaker 4: important to me. I couldn't sit around. The worm seems
• 34:28
Speaker 4: to be turning though. I mean, you know a lot
• 34:31
Speaker 4: of people are disillusioned with what's going on in Washington
• 34:34
Speaker 4: right now. So I think, you know, you've got these
• 34:38
Speaker 4: enablers here and in other places that are saying, yeah, okay,
• 34:42
Speaker 4: go for it. But I think it's it's important for
• 34:45
Speaker 4: us to make our own way. You know, West Virginians
• 34:49
Speaker 4: are strong, We're robust people were in you know, industrious
• 34:55
Speaker 4: and ingenious. We've got you know, that's I think that
• 35:03
Speaker 4: if you've got if the deck is stacked against you,
• 35:06
  Speaker 4: it's it's it's a tough road to hoe.
• 35:08
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 35:10
Speaker 5: Well, And a lot of the area that you were
• 35:12
Speaker 5: talking about that you would be serving in sor if
• 35:14
Speaker 5: elected in District seven. You know, there's a lot of
• 35:17
Speaker 5: red voters in there, a lot.
• 35:18
Speaker 4: Of Trump supporters there are, yes, but you know, traditionally
• 35:22
Speaker 4: it was it was a Democrat area.
• 35:24
Speaker 7: It was a stronghold. You know.
• 35:25
Speaker 4: I've been in labor unions working on the radio, working
• 35:32
Speaker 4: part of su the uh I forget what it is
• 35:36
Speaker 4: now because it was twenty years ago, but doing voiceovers
• 35:39
Speaker 4: at Nickelodeon and that kind of thing.
• 35:41
Speaker 5: I can't we have we never met each other with
• 35:44
Speaker 5: you being in radio.
• 35:45
Speaker 7: How's this never happened? You know, I don't know.
• 35:47
Speaker 5: Maybe we haven't. We just don't remember.
• 35:48
  Speaker 7: It could be.
• 35:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, so you know we were we used to work
• 35:52
Speaker 4: down here at doing West Virginia Capital Report down here,
• 35:54
Speaker 4: you know, you know Tommy Seiner, Yes, I was working
• 35:57
Speaker 4: with Tommy very lot.
• 35:59
Speaker 7: Well. Yeah, and uh so I'm sure.
• 36:02
Speaker 5: Okay, probably probably cross paths. There's not that many of.
• 36:04
Speaker 7: Us left, so no, there certainly aren't so.
• 36:10
Speaker 5: And I understand what you're saying about that area being
• 36:13
Speaker 5: traditionally Democrat, because look, I'm originally from Logan County and
• 36:17
Speaker 5: we didn't and I told the story before. We didn't
• 36:19
Speaker 5: have enough I was read Republican. We didn't have enough
• 36:22
Speaker 5: Republicans to serve as poll workers. We had to get
• 36:24
Speaker 5: Democrats to serve in the Republicans. Possibly we didn't have enough.
• 36:27
Speaker 4: You know, I just heard that problem down in Lincoln
• 36:30
Speaker 4: County at one of the last meetings. They said, well,
• 36:32
Speaker 4: what if we what do we do if we don't
• 36:33
Speaker 4: have enough poll workers? And said, well, we'll make some calls.
• 36:36
Speaker 5: And yeah, and that's what we had to do. It
• 36:38
Speaker 5: basically to call Secretary of State's office. Then say what
• 36:40
Speaker 5: do we do. Do you have a website or social media?
• 36:43
Speaker 5: People go on more I do.
• 36:44
  Speaker 4: It's car for Senate car with the k K A
• 36:48
Speaker 4: R R for Senate dot com and you can find
• 36:52
Speaker 4: all the information about you know, water issues, ways in
• 36:56
Speaker 4: which we can start going after the corporations. I think
• 37:00
Speaker 4: that would be I think that would be a big
• 37:02
Speaker 4: step in the right direction.
• 37:04
Speaker 5: I do a thing with every candidate, Michael, we call
• 37:06
Speaker 5: the Final thirty. It's not timed final thirty. Why should
• 37:09
Speaker 5: someone vote for Michael Carr Democratics run for State Senate
• 37:12
  Speaker 5: in districts.
• 37:13
  Speaker 4: Out Well, I think it's because I've got a plan.
• 37:18
Speaker 4: I've got a plan to move us forward, to start
• 37:22
Speaker 4: getting back, at least in some small measure, clawing back
• 37:26
Speaker 4: some of the powers that have been given away, to
• 37:29
Speaker 4: take back some of the you know, tax incentives are
• 37:33
Speaker 4: kind of silly. If you have a good business, then
• 37:37
Speaker 4: you're going to thrive. If you don't and you need
• 37:39
Speaker 4: tax incentives or you know, corporate subsidies, it's just why
• 37:45
Speaker 4: do we have to do that, you know. So I
• 37:49
Speaker 4: think I've got some good ideas on how we can
• 37:51
Speaker 4: attack those big, huge corporations and claw back some of
• 37:54
Speaker 4: our power back from them.
• 37:57
Speaker 5: Michael Carr, Democrat, running for Westerviginia State Senate District seven.

• 42:27

• 42:52
Speaker 5: Tex says, I'll be voting a straight blue tickets for
• 42:57
Speaker 5: the first time. Mentioned earlier. Early voting is underway in
• 43:00
Speaker 5: West Virginia ten total days, including two Saturdays in Gnaw County.
• 43:03
Speaker 5: The locations are, of course at the Voters Building Courier
• 43:06
Speaker 5: Street downtown, also the Girls Scouts of Black Diamond Council
• 43:09
Speaker 5: on the west end, the Belltown Hall, Elk View Community Center,
• 43:12
Speaker 5: the Sheriff's Office and Cross Lanes, the Marmette Town Hall,
• 43:15
Speaker 5: the Cistonville Library, Saint Albans City Hall, and the West
• 43:18
Speaker 5: Sax Community Center in Nitro that's located at two thirty
• 43:22
Speaker 5: four Lee Avenue in Nitro. Election day is Tuesday, May twelfth.
• 43:25
Speaker 5: I also do want to mention I talked earlier this
• 43:28
Speaker 5: morning with Putnham County Clerk Brian Wood, and early voting
• 43:32
Speaker 5: of course underway there too. They are early voting at
• 43:35
Speaker 5: Valley Park and also at the Putnam County Courthouse in
• 43:38
Speaker 5: Putnam County. A couple of things that Clerk Wood mention,
• 43:43
Speaker 5: and I'm sure he's speaking on behalf of all the
• 43:45
Speaker 5: county clerk. There's a few things you need to know
• 43:47
Speaker 5: on election day. All courthouse hours are actually different between
• 43:53
Speaker 5: the counties, and so early voting hours go along with
• 43:56
Speaker 5: the hours of the courthouse traditionally. And just know that
• 44:00
Speaker 5: in West Virginia fifty five counties. It's not going to
• 44:03
Speaker 5: say there's fifty five different sets of hours, but they
• 44:06
Speaker 5: go by the courthouse hours. So just know that before
• 44:10
Speaker 5: you go to if you're going to do your early voting,
• 44:14
Speaker 5: you know late in the day or early, just make
• 44:16
Speaker 5: sure it goes along with the courthouse hours. All the
• 44:19
Speaker 5: counties have different hours, so just make sure that ahead
• 44:22
Speaker 5: of time. Also, don't forget you must have a photo
• 44:26
Speaker 5: ID in order to vote. And if you are a
• 44:30
Speaker 5: registered independent remember as in the past when you have
• 44:34
Speaker 5: gone in if you're a registered independent in instead of
• 44:36
Speaker 5: West Virginia, you have been able to go in and
• 44:38
Speaker 5: say I would like to have a Democrat ballot or
• 44:42
Speaker 5: I'd like to have a Republican ballot. You could still
• 44:44
Speaker 5: ask for a Democrat ballot if you want one. You
• 44:47
Speaker 5: can still vote obviously a nonpartisan races, you know, your
• 44:49
Speaker 5: Board of Education and things of that nature. But if
• 44:52
Speaker 5: you are an independent, you cannot go in and ask
• 44:55
Speaker 5: for a Republican ballot. This was a decision made by
• 44:57
Speaker 5: the State Republican Party Executive committee a couple years ago.
• 45:01
Speaker 5: So I just want to make sure we've been talking
• 45:04
Speaker 5: about it ever since it happened. But trust me, it's
• 45:08
Speaker 5: going to happen that somebody's going to go in as
• 45:10
Speaker 5: a registered independent and they're going to say, I'm an independent,
• 45:13
Speaker 5: but I want to vote, but I would like you
• 45:15
Speaker 5: to give me a Republican ballot. That is not the case.
• 45:18
Speaker 5: That was a decision that was made by the State
• 45:21
Speaker 5: Republican Party's executive committee. It is not the fault of
• 45:24
Speaker 5: the poll workers, So don't take it out on them.
• 45:27
Speaker 5: It's not the legislature. They didn't do it. Secretary of State, etc. Now,
• 45:32
Speaker 5: you may be perfectly happy with it, and that's fine
• 45:34
Speaker 5: if you are, but if you're not, it's not their fault.

Speaker 5: Charleston Urban Works, Texas Dave. When the chemical emergency happened,

Speaker 5: I heard the emergency sirens but couldn't find out what
• 47:31
Speaker 5: was happening until a few moments after they had shut off.
• 47:34
Speaker 5: Why wasn't the emergency broadcast system activated? That's not a
• 47:38
Speaker 5: question I can answer, because that's not something that television
• 47:41
Speaker 5: or radio stations have any say so over. It just happens,
• 47:44
Speaker 5: It just goes off. I do not know. I do
• 47:48
Speaker 5: not know. Tex says need to keep an eye on
• 47:52
Speaker 5: polling places to make sure people are not interfering with
• 47:54
Speaker 5: your votes. Well, I mean that's You've got quality poll
• 47:58
Speaker 5: workers and the Secretary of State's office will be out
• 48:02
Speaker 5: in every county. I can tell you because I used
• 48:04
Speaker 5: to be one of those people. Texas a free country.
• 48:07
Speaker 5: I should be allowed to vote for who I choose,
• 48:09
Speaker 5: no matter how our registry as it's exster. I want
• 48:12
Speaker 5: to direct your story to a story posted this morning
• 48:14
Speaker 5: at WCCHS network dot com and at the website WV
• 48:18
Speaker 5: Metronews dot com, and it has to do with the
• 48:21
Speaker 5: John Lucas situation. The attorney for the family in the situation,
• 48:25
Speaker 5: Scott Summers, is asking people to tone it down a
• 48:31
Speaker 5: little bit with all the rumor and.
• 48:34
  Speaker 7: Etc.
• 48:35
Speaker 5: That surround the case. He put out a long statement
• 48:39
Speaker 5: on Facebook saying listen to me, now, this is the
• 48:44
Speaker 5: words from the family, the family attorney, saying there is
• 48:48
Speaker 5: zero evidence of a cover up. He had praise for
• 48:54
Speaker 5: the Kanawh County Prosecutor's office as well, and said it's
• 48:57
Speaker 5: not true that there is some sort of family relationship
• 49:01
Speaker 5: between any of these workers, the UMAs workers and the
• 49:04
Speaker 5: Sheriff's department, and that the public this is all coming
• 49:07
Speaker 5: from the attorney for the family, okay, Scott Summers, and
• 49:14
Speaker 5: that the public is not entitled to see any video
• 49:18
Speaker 5: while the investigation is going on, period, And you are
• 49:23
Speaker 5: and they are absolutely he is the attorney for the
• 49:26
Speaker 5: family in this case is one hundred percent correct on
• 49:29
Speaker 5: that this is an ongoing investigation. And I've seen the
• 49:33
Speaker 5: post of you how I don't know any of the
• 49:35
Speaker 5: parties involved, but I have seen the post after posts
• 49:38
Speaker 5: as I'm sure you have on social media with people
• 49:40
Speaker 5: wanting justice, that's all well, and good people protesting. It's America.
• 49:45
Speaker 5: That's all well and good, but people saying release this video.
• 49:48
Speaker 5: In that video, the public is not entitled to see
• 49:51
Speaker 5: that while the investigation is going on now after the fact, yes,
• 49:55
Speaker 5: but this is an ongoing investigation, and as this continues,
• 49:59
Speaker 5: all well, all by well meaning people, you are jeopardizing
• 50:03
  Speaker 5: the investigation.
• 50:05
  Speaker 7: Folks.
• 50:06
Speaker 5: I'm sure that it's on your heart and you want
• 50:09
Speaker 5: to do the right thing. And I have one hundred
• 50:11
Speaker 5: percent to understand that. And as a citizen, everybody wants
• 50:14
Speaker 5: justice to be served, they want the right they want
• 50:16
Speaker 5: the right things to happen, and in this particular case,
• 50:18
Speaker 5: but according to the attorney for the family is saying,
• 50:23
Speaker 5: died it back a little bit okay, And that there
• 50:26
Speaker 5: again is I mean, I have seen, my god, the
• 50:29
Speaker 5: most incredible things out there on social media. I should
• 50:32
Speaker 5: be used to it right now. I'm not new to
• 50:34
Speaker 5: social media. I should be useful. But some of the
• 50:35
Speaker 5: things I've heard that the drivers were related to this
• 50:39
Speaker 5: person and that person and so on, so well, according
• 50:42
Speaker 5: to the attorney for the family, that's not true. And
• 50:43
Speaker 5: that's all I can tell you is what the family
• 50:45
Speaker 5: and the attorney for the family is saying. If you
• 50:47
Speaker 5: want to read the exact post for yourself shouldn't be
• 50:50
Speaker 5: hard to find on social media. You can go to
• 50:52
Speaker 5: our website wv metronews dot com and we have it
• 50:55
Speaker 5: in the story, the entire post from Scott Summers, the
• 50:58
Speaker 5: attorney for the family.
• 51:00
  Speaker 7: And if you're.
• 51:00
Speaker 5: Sharing any of these rumors on Facebook, you are hurting
• 51:03
Speaker 5: the investigation period. TJ. Meadows, how's it going good?
• 51:09
Speaker 16: People got to get their dopamine hit, they got to
• 51:11
Speaker 16: feel important, they got to get the clicks. It's not
• 51:13
Speaker 16: any different from what happened Saturday when people started saying
• 51:16
Speaker 16: the whole thing in Washington was staged. People got to
• 51:19
Speaker 16: get there, you know, they got to get there.
• 51:20
Speaker 7: That's what this is on.
• 51:21
Speaker 5: Look, it's all in my opinion, and I've read all
• 51:23
Speaker 5: of this, and again I don't know the party is involved,
• 51:25
Speaker 5: and my heart breaks for everyone involved in this. But
• 51:30
Speaker 5: and I'm sure the people are well meaning that are
• 51:32
Speaker 5: but but I mean some of the stuff that is
• 51:34
Speaker 5: out there, man, it's just insane. And this person's covering
• 51:37
Speaker 5: up and well, according to the attorney for the family,
• 51:39
Speaker 5: there is no cover up.
• 51:40
Speaker 16: And kudos to Scott Summer, absolutely because that is the
• 51:43
Speaker 16: right way to do things.
• 51:45
Speaker 5: The visual the other night that's fine, have that.
• 51:48
Speaker 16: I'm one percent no one, but but all this social
• 51:50
Speaker 16: media stuff, you are entirely correct.
• 51:52
  Speaker 5: It's it's just although what's going to happen is it's
• 51:55
Speaker 5: going to be nothing's going to happen here locally. It's
• 51:57
Speaker 5: you know, if the charges are filed, they're going to
• 51:58
Speaker 5: go out of here.
• 51:59
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 51:59
