- 0:00Speaker 1: We know that Wednesday is of course International Women's Day.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We've been receiving some fantastic messages this morning from people
- 0:07Speaker 1: nominating some pretty incredible territory women to come along to
- 0:11Speaker 1: the luncheon which is being held on Wednesday. It is
- 0:15Speaker 1: with the United Nations Association of Australia. They're International Women's
- 0:19Speaker 1: Day Lunch. And I tell you what, it is great
- 0:22Speaker 1: to hear about some of the amazing territory women that
- 0:25Speaker 1: we've been that have been nominated this morning, and well,
- 0:28Speaker 1: speaking of some great territory women, I'm actually joined by
- 0:32Speaker 1: a couple of them and they earned a little baby
- 0:34Speaker 1: in the studio this morning. Molly Upsell and Kathleen Gazol
- 0:39Speaker 1: are good morning to you. Good morning now two incredible
- 0:44Speaker 1: territory women who lots of people around the place will
- 0:47Speaker 1: know from various different roles. He Molly, of course a
- 0:53Speaker 1: journalist around the Northern Territory for many years. Kathleen a
- 0:56Speaker 1: journalist and nine News well from nine News and people
- 1:00Speaker 1: will hear you on the show quite often on a
- 1:02Speaker 1: Friday morning as well. And you two have launched a podcast.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It's very different to what normally talk about with you, Katie.
- 1:11Speaker 3: That's for sure.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 4: No, we are launching our first episode on Wednesday of
- 1:16Speaker 4: our brand new podcast called Mum's Gone Tropo, which has
- 1:19Speaker 4: been a hell of a lot of fun so far
- 1:22Speaker 4: as I'm sure you know, katiecause you're our first.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Guys, which is very exciting. And look, I just love
- 1:29Speaker 1: the concept behind this. You know, it's all about women
- 1:32Speaker 1: that love the Northern Territory, that are raising their families
- 1:35Speaker 1: here in the Northern Territory. And you don't have to
- 1:37Speaker 1: be a woman to listen to the podcast. Anybody can
- 1:40Speaker 1: because it's actually really interesting, fascinating stories about territorians.
- 1:44Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We all three of us love the territory, and so
- 1:48Speaker 2: many people out there love the territory and there's just
- 1:50Speaker 2: you know, being a smaller place, you don't have as.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Much just talking about the NT.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So there's always great stories of women here doing what
- 1:59Speaker 2: we do while also having to do the juggle with kids. Now,
- 2:03Speaker 2: Molly and I are only new to this whole experience. Yes,
- 2:07Speaker 2: so you know we're talking to women and women like
- 2:10Speaker 2: you who have other kids and you know, your pearls
- 2:13Speaker 2: of wisdom.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Some mango madness, so much mango madness.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of madness a lot of as well.
- 2:20Speaker 4: So that's been a lot of fun to hear jokes
- 2:22Speaker 4: and funny stories, and we've got a couple of interviews
- 2:25Speaker 4: up our sleeve already, just purely because we were working
- 2:27Speaker 4: around my Jude date as I hold a three week
- 2:29Speaker 4: old baby in my arm, so we had to pre record,
- 2:31Speaker 4: and I know my waters broke two days before we
- 2:34Speaker 4: were meant to interview you, and we had to see
- 2:36Speaker 4: schedule a few But it's been a hell of a
- 2:40Speaker 4: lot of fun and just a really hopefully a new
- 2:43Speaker 4: way that people can get engaged in a different sort
- 2:46Speaker 4: of media and here stories that you probably wouldn't hear otherwise.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Everyone listens to you on air, and you, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 4: put a little bit of your life on social media.
- 2:54Speaker 4: But I feel like even with our interview, we got
- 2:56Speaker 4: to know a lot more about you as a person
- 2:59Speaker 4: and your story and how you got there, and that's
- 3:01Speaker 4: something that Kathleen and I really wanted to get across.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And so when did you girls decide that you were
- 3:07Speaker 1: going to start this podcast and what sort of what
- 3:10Speaker 1: made you decide that this would be something fun to
- 3:13Speaker 1: do while juggling children and also jobs.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yes, well, Molly just called me out of the blue
- 3:18Speaker 2: one day and said, this is really random, not work related.
- 3:22Speaker 3: And I have an idea of a podcast. Do you
- 3:25Speaker 3: want to do it with me?
- 3:25Speaker 2: And I was really taken aback and didn't really have
- 3:29Speaker 2: to think about it too much. Sort of did take
- 3:30Speaker 2: a step back and was like, hold on a second,
- 3:32Speaker 2: let's just can I fit it all in? But I mean,
- 3:34Speaker 2: Molly was heavily pregnant with They've been numbered two, so
- 3:37Speaker 2: it was like, are you sure you want to do this?
- 3:39Speaker 4: Is this the crazy hormone speaking genuine about this? But
- 3:43Speaker 4: a podcast is something I have wanted to do for
- 3:45Speaker 4: a very long time. I couldn't talk under wet cement,
- 3:48Speaker 4: and obviously I sold ice to the Eskimos and I
- 3:50Speaker 4: dragged Kathleen along with me. But I think we have
- 3:53Speaker 4: so much. We have two kids out of the same age,
- 3:55Speaker 4: We both love the territory. We talk about fishing often, camping,
- 4:00Speaker 4: just life up here and why it is so so good.
- 4:04Speaker 4: And we have some pretty amazing women in a pipeline
- 4:07Speaker 4: and a few more to come as well, and hopefully
- 4:09Speaker 4: everybody gets around it.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Well. So I know that you've interviewed me, and look,
- 4:14Speaker 1: there's lots of laughs and lots of crying.
- 4:18Speaker 3: It's interesting. It's a wild ride for when that comes out.
- 4:22Speaker 1: If anybody wants to take a listen to that. But
- 4:25Speaker 1: who else are you? How else have you interviewed? And
- 4:27Speaker 1: who else are you planning on the show.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So we've got Amy Heatherington, who's obviously a hilarious woman
- 4:34Speaker 2: who's currently doing shows around the country about her motherhood journey.
- 4:38Speaker 2: She already did one a while ago about the newborn phase,
- 4:40Speaker 2: now doing the toddler phase. Amy Culprit, who's an ABC
- 4:44Speaker 2: presenter in the lineup producer there. She's obviously talking about
- 4:49Speaker 2: the wild, fierce children. There's some great yarns in there.
- 4:53Speaker 2: And we also did Molly's mother in Law, which she's
- 4:56Speaker 2: so fun, a.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Bit of a territory icon, so she moved to the
- 4:59Speaker 4: territory for forty years ago and has some of actually
- 5:02Speaker 4: the most incredible stories and I think her interview is
- 5:07Speaker 4: pretty phenomenal. I have a very good relationship with my
- 5:09Speaker 4: mother in law. But sneak peek into that one as
- 5:11Speaker 4: two words. Is the Hemsworth Brothers.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Oh yes, everybody likes them.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You'd have to tune into that one when we eventually
- 5:18Speaker 4: launched that one, but no, we've been We've got some
- 5:20Speaker 4: amazing women lined up as well to come. So that's
- 5:23Speaker 4: just a few sneak peaks we won't give away too
- 5:24Speaker 4: much and.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Hope fully like the people who are listening to it
- 5:28Speaker 2: aren't just territorians that they're people into state who you know,
- 5:31Speaker 2: probably think, God, why do you live.
- 5:33Speaker 3: In the territory?
- 5:33Speaker 2: Why are you choosing to raise your family here?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Nothing to do?
- 5:37Speaker 2: It's too hot, bloody, bloody blood. But that's we all
- 5:41Speaker 2: know it's not true.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 5:42Speaker 3: There's so many wonderful things.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Great lifestyle to grow up in, to raise kids in,
- 5:46Speaker 2: and that's what we'd love to get across.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So where can people when when's it launching and where
- 5:52Speaker 1: can they listen?
- 5:52Speaker 4: So Wednesday we launch our first episode on Wednesday and
- 5:55Speaker 4: the most surreal thing ever the other day was launching
- 5:59Speaker 4: on Spot and Apple Podcasts, so we're on the like
- 6:02Speaker 4: two major podcasting platforms, and I ran Kathleen and I was.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Like, what have we done?
- 6:08Speaker 3: But then I listened back to.
- 6:09Speaker 4: The interview with you and I was like, no, this
- 6:10Speaker 4: is actually good listening and hopefully everyone gets around it.
- 6:14Speaker 4: So we have also launched on social media, So we
- 6:16Speaker 4: have Instagram and Facebook and we're going to try and
- 6:18Speaker 4: be as interactive with everybody on there as we can.
- 6:20Speaker 4: And Spotify and Apple Playlist, so you can subscribe to
- 6:24Speaker 4: both of those and get notified when we upload podcasts
- 6:27Speaker 4: every week.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the trailer is already. Yeah, I mean the plan
- 6:30Speaker 2: is weekly. So that's the plan.
- 6:32Speaker 3: It's sad, okay.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Mom's juggling everything, so see. Good on you both.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I love seeing love seeing Territorians do wonderful stuff, particularly
- 6:43Speaker 1: a couple of hard working moms like you too.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I think it's incredible.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So good on you. Bye. Thank you for stepping outside
- 6:49Speaker 1: your comfort zone and thing your podcast.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Thank you for being our first guest. Oh, no worries.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Like I said, if anyone wants to go on that
- 6:57Speaker 1: wild ride, it's going to be interesting.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I expected wild, emotional Celton, of course, but the whole
- 7:06Speaker 2: package direct.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh well, thank you both so much for coming
- 7:09Speaker 1: in and Mum's gone Tropo. It launches on Wednesday. Make
- 7:15Speaker 1: sure you have a.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Listen to it.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Thank you, Thank you Molly Upseil and Kathleen Gazola. There
- 7:21Speaker 1: and Wednesdays when you'll be able to hear that podcast.
