- 0:12Hello friends. It's Sean here.
- 0:14It is great to have your company.
- 0:16Thank you for joining me or inviting me rather to join you.
- 0:19I should say it's all about you, friend.
- 0:21It's not about me. And today we are going to
- 0:25continue reading through the book of Isaiah and in fact the
- 0:28rest of the week as we read through Isaiah.
- 0:31This week really is God through Isaiah telling his people
- 0:36trapped in far away Babylon that God is still in charge and he is
- 0:42trying to convince his people that they need to trust in him
- 0:46and that he will ultimately save them and bring them back and
- 0:50give them salvation. And today he will do that by
- 0:54basically bagging out Babylon's God, saying that they are pretty
- 0:59much useless and not able to do anything.
- 1:01And then as we will see, he will contrast that with him who is an
- 1:05alive and incredible God as the week goes on.
- 1:08So today's reading is. A good reminder for us to make
- 1:12sure that we keep God at the top of the pile of priorities in our
- 1:16life as He alone is God. So let's read this together.
- 1:24The words of Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 46, Bell and Nebo.
- 1:36The gods of Babylon bow as they are lowered to the ground.
- 1:40They are being hauled away on ox carts.
- 1:44The poor. Beasts stagger under the weight.
- 1:47Both the idols and their owners are bowed down.
- 1:51The gods cannot protect the people and the people cannot
- 1:54protect the gods. They go off into captivity
- 1:58together. Listen to me, descendants of
- 2:01Jacob, all you who remain in Israel.
- 2:05I have cared for you since you were born, yes.
- 2:09I carried you before you were born.
- 2:12I will be your God throughout your lifetime until.
- 2:16Your hair is white with age. I made you and I.
- 2:21Will care for you. I will carry you along and save
- 2:25you. To whom will you compare me, who
- 2:29is my equal? Some people pour out their
- 2:32silver and gold and hire a Craftsman to make a God from it.
- 2:37They will bow down and worship it.
- 2:39They carry it around on their shoulders and when they set it
- 2:43down it stays there, it can't even.
- 2:45Move and when someone prays to it, there is no answer.
- 2:50It can't rescue anyone. From trouble.
- 2:53Do not forget this. Keep it in mind.
- 2:57Remember this, you guilty ones. Remember the things I have done
- 3:01in the past. For I alone am God.
- 3:05I am God, and there is none like me.
- 3:08Only I can tell you the future before it happens.
- 3:12Everything I plan will come to pass for, I do whatever I wish.
- 3:18I will call a swift bird of prey from the east, a leader from a
- 3:22distant land to come and do my bidding.
- 3:26I have. Said what I would do, and I will
- 3:29do it. Listen to me, you stubborn
- 3:32people who are so far from doing right for I am ready to set
- 3:37things right. Not.
- 3:39In the distant future. But right now, I'm ready to save
- 3:43Jerusalem and show my glory to Israel.
- 3:58Thank you God that you are a God who believes in second chances
- 4:03and third chances and fourth chances and 989th chances.
- 4:09Here we are making mistake after mistake, letting you down again
- 4:15and again with the silly, selfish, sinful ways that we
- 4:20unfortunately lead our lives. But.
- 4:23Here you are, as evidenced in this chapter, that when your
- 4:28people turn away from you, you don't just abandoned them, but
- 4:33you go to great lengths to show them that you are sovereign and
- 4:38to draw us back to you. We see that you're a sovereign
- 4:44Lord, and we once again and not the last time.
- 4:49Today we re offer ourselves to you.
- 4:52We are your children. We are a living sacrifice,
- 4:56living each day to worship and serve you.
- 5:00Thank you that you continue to forgive and to draw us back and
- 5:07to invite us into your family and your mission in this world.
- 5:12We. Thank you and we praise you and
- 5:14we pray all these things in the name of Jesus.
- 5:18Amen.
