- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presentivize, see kick. This is episode 454.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:21Reyes. Nate.
- 0:27Just a little old trade deadline check in episode trade talk.
- 0:34I think the you you think the big stuff has happened or the
- 0:38big stuff is still yet to come. I think it's yet Yeah, yeah,
- 0:42come. I would agree.
- 0:43I concur. How?
- 0:45This is nice. This is like a, this is like a
- 0:47housekeeping kind of episode, I think.
- 0:50I'm, I'll be honest with you, I'm kind of a fan of of the
- 0:54moves that have taken place so far.
- 0:55Like it's not the, it's maybe not the greatest pre trade, pre
- 1:00trade deadline we've ever seen, but I mean, we've certainly seen
- 1:03worse. Like we have been, like there
- 1:06have been years where it's been the last minute and we're going
- 1:11anything going to happen this year or we're just going to
- 1:13carry on with our lives. But I there have been some names
- 1:16that have been shuffled around and I am here for it.
- 1:20As am I, as am I. Good stuff.
- 1:24How would you give me one word to describe this trade deadline
- 1:29thus far? One.
- 1:36Just one word. Just one word.
- 1:39Think through this carefully. Now you only get one.
- 1:41Can't change it. Sneaky.
- 1:48Sneaky. OK, I like it.
- 1:50I would. I would concur.
- 1:52I would concur. I think there's some sneaky,
- 1:56there's some sneaky good moves that have occurred.
- 2:00Hey, Speaking of Sneaky, shout out to Randy or Rose Arena.
- 2:07Just slide sliding in as a fan before he before he catches his
- 2:12flight. I was I was a big big fan of
- 2:16that. That was really cool.
- 2:17Big fan of that. With his with his wife.
- 2:20I think it's his wife. Like sitting.
- 2:21Crying. Yeah, girlfriend.
- 2:23Fans, fans coming up like that. That was cool, man.
- 2:27I, I've never, I don't think I've ever seen anything like
- 2:30that. I think the, the only thing I
- 2:33can remember seeing like a current player, like arguably in
- 2:37their prime as a fan, like I remember when Tulo went to
- 2:42Yankee Stadium to catch Jeter in one of his last, like, I think
- 2:46it was Jeter's last season. And I thought that was pretty
- 2:48cool. It's rare, but like to be and to
- 2:53sit left field, like to go sit in that section, the section
- 2:57you're always waving down, the section you're always giving
- 3:00love to like that was I'm I'm I'm impressed.
- 3:06Yeah, you know, I feel like Randy gets a lot of hate, but
- 3:09I'm sitting there watching just. Plays loud, but not in a bad way
- 3:13most of the time, you know? Yeah, but I'm sitting there
- 3:16watching the clips of it and I go, you know, this seems and,
- 3:19and who we don't know the guy, but from from what we can tell,
- 3:23seems like a guy that's truly grateful for the the folks that
- 3:27show up support him, the folks that buy his jersey, the folks
- 3:30that like you mentioned, hang out there in left field just
- 3:34letting him know how much they appreciate him.
- 3:35It seemed like a very, very grateful man that was sitting
- 3:39there. He was able to he was talking
- 3:41with the fans and and dapping them up and doing autographs and
- 3:44taking pictures. And I'm like that, that, you
- 3:46know, say what you will about Randy Rose.
- 3:48Randy, that seems like a good dude right there.
- 3:50Yeah, that's cool. Like they think of like being a
- 3:54fan and just being like, oh, I'm just going to drop 14 bucks on a
- 3:58ticket today to go see someone else play left field and then
- 4:02next thing you know, Randy's sitting in front of you.
- 4:04Yeah, inner, inner Randy Rosa Raina Jersey.
- 4:06I'm just going to show up to the park in it.
- 4:08Oh, and by the way, Randy Rosa Raina just walked by that.
- 4:11That's pretty cool. But yeah, it, it made me think
- 4:14of the the World Baseball Classic when he, when we saw him
- 4:16and he was with Team Mexico. And if you remember, he was like
- 4:23signing boots and talking with the kids before the game.
- 4:27So the more he was signing. Stuff in the middle of the game.
- 4:30Yeah, so like, the more I think about it, the more we talk about
- 4:33it. Randy Rose Arena, that that's
- 4:36good, good dude. My books.
- 4:38But speaking to Randy Rose Arena, let's talk, Let's talk.
- 4:41Trade deadline here. Mariners acquire outfielder
- 4:44Randy Rose Arena from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for
- 4:50outfielder Aiden Smith, righty Brody Hopkins and a player to be
- 4:55named later. This was, I guess we could say
- 5:02this was the start of the, the, the moves for the Mariners.
- 5:05This was Friday. Yeah, this was Friday, the Randy
- 5:10trade. We've had some people reach out
- 5:15to us be like, yo, the the Mariners kind of going for it.
- 5:19And this was after I think maybe like a second or third move that
- 5:22they had made. But, you know, we were wondering
- 5:26if the, if the what the Mariners were going to do.
- 5:28There was obvious holes, there was obvious things they needed
- 5:30to address. They go out and get a guy like
- 5:33Randy Rosarena, say what you will about his year to this
- 5:35point, I, I'm a fan of the acquisition.
- 5:38I I would have liked any, I would have liked any team that
- 5:42would have gotten him like I, I think he would have been an
- 5:44improvement to any organization that he ends up with.
- 5:50But for the Mariners, though, I think they're still they, they
- 5:56need more. There's still more.
- 5:57You need to do more. First base needs to be solved
- 6:00100% need to need to address that.
- 6:05And and what's tough is that like you, you have, there's a
- 6:09few teams that need help at first base.
- 6:13Two of those teams I can think of right now.
- 6:17Like it, if you are the Mariners, this isn't, you're
- 6:20not, you don't have the luxury of being able to just throw
- 6:25something together and hope you squeak by because you, you don't
- 6:28have any sort of history or track record that gives you any
- 6:32confidence to think that. Well, if we just, if we just
- 6:35scrum together some some dudes and just roll them out there,
- 6:39we'll be all right. We'll be all right.
- 6:40No, like you're, you're having to fight off the Astros and the
- 6:45Ranger. Who knows what the Rangers are
- 6:47going to do? They're they're still kind of in
- 6:49the mix. Don't know if they're going to
- 6:50sell, I think. Didn't they get swept this
- 6:53weekend? I think I saw.
- 6:55They've lost three straight, they're five and five in the
- 6:57rest. Yeah.
- 6:58So either way, you could argue that they're they're there and
- 7:02they're worthy of being fought off, I guess you could say.
- 7:05So if you're the Mariners, you're going to need to go above
- 7:07and beyond if you want to improve your chances of doing
- 7:11anything down the stretch. Because as it stands right now,
- 7:14moves you've made thus far pretty good, but there's much
- 7:18more work to be done in Seattle. Yeah, I'm, I'm curious where
- 7:21they go because I'm kind of looking around the league and
- 7:27it's interesting. It's interesting because I mean
- 7:31like first base is, is not exactly super deep as far as
- 7:37opportunities out there for guys that you can trade for.
- 7:41I didn't see Miami just released Josh Bell who wasn't even.
- 7:46Put him really put him on waivers.
- 7:48Yeah, waivers, but it like in reality wasn't even really
- 7:51playing that bad like I I think it was like a mid sevens OPS
- 7:57right, like nothing crazy. So maybe something there I don't
- 8:04know. I did hear a quick we'll get
- 8:07into this here in a minute. I did hear a quick like possible
- 8:11rumor about Cody Bellinger like that.
- 8:14Really. I've not heard that.
- 8:16There was a check in with the Yankees, but based on what the
- 8:20Cubs have done, it makes me wonder if that was fake.
- 8:24Well, I did see that the Yankees apparently checked in on a Blake
- 8:28Snell as well, so I don't know what a bunch of other teams
- 8:31don't know. I don't know how valid these
- 8:33these check insurance are. It's not real.
- 8:35So I I think you go for it. Go get Vlad.
- 8:40If you're Seattle, go just go get Vlad.
- 8:43Go make that happen. Yeah, and that that's the kind
- 8:47of move that I'm talking about. Vlad is not going to win you the
- 8:53World Series. We know this.
- 8:55But it does a lot to the clubhouse.
- 8:56It does a lot to the clubhouse and that's the type of move that
- 8:59I'm talking about when I say like go above and beyond, go go
- 9:05like overachieve surpass the expectations that your fans most
- 9:09likely have because there's probably your your fan base is
- 9:11probably going, yeah, we know we need to do things.
- 9:13We know things are hopefully going to continue to happen as
- 9:17we approach the deadline on Tuesday.
- 9:20But we just don't know if there's going to be that big
- 9:23splash a guy like you go get a guy like Vlad.
- 9:27That's that's what I'm talking about.
- 9:28That's going above and beyond. And that would do like just like
- 9:31you mentioned, do wonders for morale.
- 9:33Reinvigorates right, it it just kind of adds the juice and it
- 9:37gives we've heard it all the time.
- 9:40Current former players talk about like there's it says
- 9:43something when your front office believes in you and double S
- 9:47down and like you know, says let's get it it it who knows
- 9:52what that could ignite. So that's what I I'd like to see
- 9:56the Mariners do that. Just show me that you're not
- 9:59just coasting, you know? That brings up an interesting
- 10:04conversation too. Is the dynamic or the, the
- 10:10duality of the deadline where if your front office doesn't do
- 10:14anything, we hear it all the time about guy, the guys in the
- 10:17clubhouse going, all right, you don't believe in US front
- 10:20office, we're going to show you that we believe in ourselves.
- 10:24The, the, the opposite side of that coin is you've got the, the
- 10:28front office, like you mentioned saying, let's get it.
- 10:31We're going to fill out whatever holes we need to.
- 10:33We are going to make sure that for these last two months, call
- 10:36it that we are going to have the best opportunity that we can to
- 10:42run this thing as deep as we can.
- 10:45Both can work both routes get like we've seen, we've seen,
- 10:49we've seen clubhouses rally before when, when the front
- 10:51office just leaves them out in the cold.
- 10:53But we've also seen on the flip side where rosters get bolstered
- 10:57and they just they just steamroll for the next two
- 11:00months. I would venture to say if you
- 11:05had to put a percentage to it or or put a a favorite outcome to
- 11:09it, I would venture to say that the the latter works more often
- 11:13when the front office is like, hey, let's get it.
- 11:16This whole organization believes in you.
- 11:18Now let's roll so. I just think it like especially
- 11:23now, like we don't see teams like the late 90s, early 2000s
- 11:29putting where I don't think I can imagine seeing like a one
- 11:3315120 win team anytime soon. So I think it's like I think any
- 11:42of these teams can take a realistic look in the mirror and
- 11:45be like, yeah, like we we could use a little something here.
- 11:48We're we're lacking in this area.
- 11:50So it it almost validates the way you feel as a player.
- 11:54I think it validates that the the team is betting on you a
- 11:57little bit. So yeah, I would say I like the,
- 12:02I like the addition over believing that what we build at
- 12:07the beginning of the year is good enough.
- 12:11Running down the list of the race here, the Rays Ray's been
- 12:14rather active trading away. E Stock parade is for
- 12:18Christopher Morrell and to prospects.
- 12:26This was an interesting trade. This one threw me.
- 12:29This one, yeah, this one certainly threw me.
- 12:31I, we've, we've heard for the last, call it week and a half,
- 12:37two weeks regarding the Cubs, like we're kind of, we're
- 12:43unsure. We think we're leaning towards
- 12:46selling and then they go out and make a deal that doesn't exactly
- 12:53scream selling. Like, I don't know, it's, I
- 12:57don't know, like this wasn't exactly a move that I expected
- 13:00from the Cubs. I don't get it personally,
- 13:08unless there was something, unless there was some type of
- 13:11internal issue with morale, which is hard to believe because
- 13:15like he seems so oh he's on camera like super smiley.
- 13:20And what I can tell fans love him.
- 13:22Yeah, yeah. I mean, he was on, he was on hug
- 13:27watch. And you don't, you don't, you
- 13:29don't put a guy on hug watch if he's despised by the fan base.
- 13:33That's just true how that works. Both both 25.
- 13:41Both I looked up like career OPS are both like seven 70s.
- 13:52I think they're just very different styles of play.
- 13:55Like you definitely have this. No offense to parades but like
- 14:01doesn't scream peak athleticism to me.
- 14:04The guy hits and walks at a ridiculous rate.
- 14:08Parades is in a top ten percentile for walks.
- 14:12Doesn't strike out much either. But yeah, I don't it was like it
- 14:18was like a weird move to get like give up on them.
- 14:28And I don't know if this is the idea of like, hey, we want
- 14:30Bellinger to be full time center field and like do they commit
- 14:36with parades at first or third and then do like Patrick Wisdom
- 14:40at the other? Like I don't I'm just a little.
- 14:42It didn't seem like this was it's a lateral move I guess is
- 14:46what I'm trying to say. This seems like a lateral move.
- 14:49Yeah, that's the best. That's the best way to describe
- 14:51it, Yeah. Now, to be fair, if I'm if I'm a
- 14:53Rays fan, I feel super happy about this.
- 14:56I feel super happy about this. To get Morel who we've seen some
- 14:59upside like there's there's something there that we've seen
- 15:03flashes of it. And to also get a prospect like
- 15:08I think if if you're looking at because we saw alerts today that
- 15:12was like Dodgers Yankees bidding war for parades and you, you got
- 15:16to assume that was most likely having to do with prospects.
- 15:23So I don't know if there was any like big league ready guys.
- 15:25Not that the Rays are in a position or a need for a big
- 15:27league ready guy, but like I would be pretty happy with this.
- 15:31I think the Rays really cleaned up this weekend, but I'm just
- 15:35confused as to what the Cubs are doing.
- 15:37I'm not really understanding here.
- 15:41Well, Rays also shipped off Zach Eflin to the O's in exchange for
- 15:47infielder Mack Horvath, right-hander Jackson Baumeister,
- 15:55outfielder Matthew Etzel. Why can't?
- 15:58Why can't any? That's a tough group of names.
- 16:01What are we? Doing here, can we not just have
- 16:03like a a John John Johnson like? Smith add in a couple regulars.
- 16:11Steve Smith. No, we go on Mac Horvath,
- 16:13Jackson Baumeister and Matthew Etzel.
- 16:17Etz Wetzel's pretzels. Pretzels I like.
- 16:22This move a lot. I like this move a lot for the
- 16:25OS. I if this is it for.
- 16:29Them it can't be it we're had. This is deja vu for the Orioles.
- 16:33If this is the if this is the the arm splash that you make,
- 16:39this can't be. Yeah, I think this is an
- 16:41underrated name though. Certainly, but like again,
- 16:47we've, we've seen we, I just said it, this is Deja vu.
- 16:50We've we've seen this story play out already.
- 16:53They, they don't make quite the splash that you want them to at
- 16:56the deadline and then they just kind of fizzle out once October
- 16:59hits. And I think you're going to need
- 17:02their they, I would argue the Orioles need a a morale boost
- 17:06more than any team in baseball right now.
- 17:08Like they, they have been scuffling, they have been
- 17:11scuffling and they're the, the fans are eating themselves alive
- 17:15right now talking about what do we, what do we do about Craig
- 17:18Kimbrel? Like send this guy to the moon.
- 17:21And then you got our, our good friend Ryan Ripken.
- 17:25The O's will be fine. And so there's really two camps
- 17:27right now. And I get it.
- 17:28That's, that's often the case with most fan bases.
- 17:31Like the season's over or hey, the sun's coming out tomorrow.
- 17:35It's one or the other, yeah, But the OS have been scuffing a
- 17:38little bit. I I think they pulled out a win
- 17:40today against the Padres, but generally speaking as of late
- 17:44have not been playing well. Still dropped two out of three,
- 17:46right? I believe so.
- 17:49You're going to need, you're going to need something more
- 17:52than this. I don't.
- 17:54Know if it's a three-game set, whatever, yeah, I mean, I I get
- 17:58that, I get that. I I'm not disagreeing.
- 18:02I think yes, this is a disappointing thing if this is
- 18:05the only move you're doing. To your point, underrated.
- 18:07Move, I think it's underrated. It's a name that was up for
- 18:10grabs. Obviously look at what the Rays
- 18:12are doing. Like this was a name that was up
- 18:14for grabs. They got to him early.
- 18:16If you get deep into this weekend, there's a lot of lot of
- 18:19teams that play with with Zach Eflin.
- 18:22So he he tops in the first percentile for walks.
- 18:28The man has a 13 to 87 strikeout, thirteen walks to 87
- 18:34strikeouts this year. Dude does not put anyone on Like
- 18:38that's that's a veteran. That's that's the guy that's
- 18:41going to eat innings can happily step in as a starter in the
- 18:44postseason. Like I, I'm saying this is a
- 18:48very much underrated move, but I agree based on the prospect
- 18:55capital that they have, I I think it would be a massive
- 18:59mistake to not get a bit of a splash somewhere you're.
- 19:09Going to need to help the back end of that bullpen out though.
- 19:11Yeah, Sir Anthony Dominguez and we can get into this trade next,
- 19:14I guess. But this Sir Anthony Dominguez
- 19:16trade, I didn't, I don't know that lose.
- 19:23I feel like losing Hayes out of the clubhouse does more damage
- 19:29than Sir Anthony Dominguez brings positivity to the to the
- 19:33fold. Am I crazy there?
- 19:38You know, you got a little bit of a surplus in the outfield.
- 19:40Yeah. But.
- 19:43I don't know how much of A how much of an impact Austin Hayes
- 19:49was or how much of like of an oomph that guy was given to the
- 19:53clubhouse. Maybe he was, Ryan would
- 19:55probably have a better pulse on that.
- 19:56But I think at this stage of the game, I think maybe it's an
- 20:03unpopular opinion, I still think they need to add more to the
- 20:05back end of the bullpen. But I I think adding strength
- 20:08and need Dominguez is at this stage of the game more important
- 20:11than having a guy like Hayes around.
- 20:12I. Sure.
- 20:13I could do with or without. They've been talking about
- 20:16They've been talking about trading him for some time now
- 20:19and shipping him out elsewhere given the log jam that they
- 20:21have. So how do?
- 20:22You feel about the comments, the the interview comments, do you
- 20:25see those? Yeah, it's talking about how
- 20:28like he he feels like he's on a team now that has an even better
- 20:31chance to to win the World Series.
- 20:33And that's all Orioles fans losing their mind.
- 20:36I'm like. What do you want him to say?
- 20:39I wish I was wrong. Is he wrong?
- 20:41I wish I didn't. I didn't come to this town.
- 20:44Like, what do you want him to say?
- 20:45He's going to buy into his new team.
- 20:47He has to. It's not even buying into the
- 20:49OR, it's not just buying into the team.
- 20:50It's it's fact. A simple look at the standings
- 20:55tells you that the Phillies, at the conclusion of the weekend,
- 20:59stand at 65 and 40, and the Orioles are 62 and 43.
- 21:03So yeah, say what you will. And that's a good point.
- 21:07Though forget the win loss. Forget, forget the win loss
- 21:10record. Look at the division the
- 21:11Phillies are having to stave off the Braves, who are 56 and 48.
- 21:15So what do we really talk about? And as we know, the the Orioles
- 21:19are the the Yankees and the Red Sox are, I mean, you could, I
- 21:24won't lump the race and they're 8 1/2 back, but it's six games
- 21:27back as, as of, as of this moment, you're having to save
- 21:30off the Yankees and Red Sox. So he's, what he said was
- 21:34perfectly fine. I don't know why people are
- 21:35flipping out about it, but I don't.
- 21:37Yeah, yeah. With him, I, I do.
- 21:43I do like the move allows Marsh to to be in center field more.
- 21:52Maybe Castellanos just needs like some time, like a couple
- 21:55days a week off. I don't know.
- 21:57The guy's been historically bad at the plate this year.
- 22:00I know that. Like I I think he barely ranks
- 22:04above like Andrew Benintendi as far as war goes.
- 22:07I think I saw that he's. He's one of the.
- 22:10I think you can count him on one hand the number of guys that
- 22:13have appear, have played every game this year.
- 22:15I think he's one of. I think he's one of the.
- 22:17Few they needed they needed some outfield depth like now you can
- 22:20you can slide you can move he can play left.
- 22:24He can play like and and marsh and and Rojas and center So like
- 22:28there's some things that have opened up a little bit with
- 22:31them. I don't know, man, like I'd be
- 22:34stoked any anybody trades me to the Phillies for for who they
- 22:39are, what they have going on in the clubhouse and like the the
- 22:44welcoming feeling that you got to be getting right now.
- 22:47It's got to feel good so and I think you get a chance to play
- 22:51more often so. Yeah, I feel like, I feel like
- 22:56for a handful of those OS, there's this awkward like
- 22:59tension where it's, yeah, we got a team culture here.
- 23:02Yeah, we're super deep, but also like.
- 23:06It's a lot of jam. When you have a lot of jam,
- 23:08you're constantly going to be questioned by or this back of
- 23:12the head like this kid, this kids coming from my job some
- 23:15point. So a.
- 23:17Big lack of clarity. Even though I think we've seen
- 23:21cursed that and and left that this it's looked, it's looked
- 23:27rough in Baltimore, hasn't it? There's a couple of plays that
- 23:29he's made out in near Mount Baltimore that looked.
- 23:33Yeah, yeah, I'm all for, I'm all for competition, like improving
- 23:45the the product on the field. You know, guys are trying to
- 23:48battle it out. They're trying to be better than
- 23:49the guy that's behind him and the guy that's in front of him
- 23:51or whatever it is. But at a certain point, it's
- 23:54like that that can eat at somebody like not not really
- 23:59knowing where you where you stand in the in the depth chart
- 24:02order and and when your next turn is going to come down the
- 24:05line at. Some weirdness going on in
- 24:08Baltimore and I I don't like you've It makes you wonder how
- 24:12much they're shopping or like displaying like Connor Norby her
- 24:18said like the like you have guys that like, you know, you know,
- 24:22I, I don't know, I would want to hold on to Westburg, but like
- 24:25you got to see if maybe people want to see what nor we can do.
- 24:29Like, you know, now they're talking like Cedric Mullins,
- 24:32maybe, you know, adding Pashe in this deal, by the way, gives
- 24:36them some outfield depth that like can can play pretty solid
- 24:41defense. So.
- 24:42And that's something you and I talked about before we even
- 24:44hopped on is I feel like Pashe for for the the noise that was
- 24:49being made around his his call up back in the day.
- 24:52I feel like he's bounced around the league a little bit more
- 24:55than we would have thought at this stage in his career.
- 24:56But you know, maybe maybe he he finds his place in Baltimore.
- 25:00Who's who's really say. But yeah, for you mentioned
- 25:05cursed dad. I think of the names that I've
- 25:07seen floated around as possible pieces of ship out.
- 25:10I've seen his name the most. So keep an eye out for Hessing
- 25:14Kurstad being dealt elsewhere to possibly hopefully for the OS
- 25:20bring in a piece that they really need.
- 25:23So that's all I got on that. But wrapping up the the Rays
- 25:29talk here, Jason Adam being dealt to the Padres and what
- 25:36I've seen is the biggest overpay of the deadline thus far.
- 25:46I don't know when the Padres are going to learn.
- 25:48I I, it doesn't seem as though they're going to learn anytime
- 25:51soon. They seem to dish out more than
- 25:54they should, both in terms of prospects and in money.
- 25:59And you can you can verify that just by looking at the latest
- 26:04deals they've made and by the the latest signings they've made
- 26:09over the last, what, couple years at this stage?
- 26:13I don't get it. I mean.
- 26:16I love Jason Adam. I, I'm, I'm team Jason Adam
- 26:20here. Then I think he's really good.
- 26:22Really good. But not this good.
- 26:27Not this good. They gave up their third, eighth
- 26:31and 12th ranked prospects to make this deal happen.
- 26:34Is Preller going to get fired? Yeah, most likely.
- 26:40I mean this is. I'm down.
- 26:43Let's get Cashman out of here and bring in Preler.
- 26:46I can see this. I can see this.
- 26:49There's the when when Preler started this, when when he
- 26:53started the whole like, hey, we're we don't care.
- 26:57Like we're putting it on the table.
- 26:59We're going for this thing. You and I were both on the same
- 27:02page and a lot of other people were looking around going look
- 27:04at the Padres, man. This is how you're supposed to
- 27:06run a club, but after year after year of it not working and then
- 27:11you just seemingly getting fleeced both again in terms of
- 27:17prospects and financially where you're, you're, you're paying
- 27:20Zander Bogart's like $8 trillion It that's just one example.
- 27:26But then you look at this deal that they made for Jason Adam.
- 27:29It's like, what are we, who are you trying to outbid here?
- 27:32I, I'm, I'm sure that it was a bidding war and seem they, they
- 27:38clearly came out on top, but I'm like, I don't know if you needed
- 27:41to go this deep. And Andres, I don't know if you,
- 27:44I, I don't know if you have to do it this early before the
- 27:48deadline. Like this is, this is almost
- 27:52like this is almost like, hey, we didn't get that.
- 27:57It's, it's, you know, two hours, 3 hours before the deadline.
- 28:01We didn't get the names we were hoping for.
- 28:03Like we still have this. Let's let's just go get
- 28:06something. Give this now.
- 28:08You're almost like handcuffed yourself to like you.
- 28:10What do you have left to give? And is anyone needing to sign
- 28:15off on these deals for Preller or is Preller able to do this on
- 28:18his own? Like I this is a head scratcher
- 28:24for me. I agree and disagree.
- 28:26I think it's I think it is a little early in terms of like
- 28:32it, it's seeming like a panic move at the last minute.
- 28:36I think it's early in that sense, like you didn't need to,
- 28:40you didn't need to drop this Hall for Jason Adam.
- 28:43But at the same time, I understand needing to to acquire
- 28:48bullpen arms at at this stage for a lot of teams, not just the
- 28:51Padres, for a lot of teams. That's the, I, I mean, have we
- 28:56had a season as of late where I feel like bullpen arms are
- 28:59needed more than they are this year just across the league?
- 29:03I, I don't know. But I for in, in terms of, in,
- 29:06in regards to that, I understand the rush maybe to go out and get
- 29:10a guy like Jason Adam where it's like we've identified that as an
- 29:13arm that we want, an arm that we think can benefit us.
- 29:16Let's go get them. But like to your point, you I, I
- 29:19don't know if any team is dishing out this much for for
- 29:23Jason Adam. It just doesn't make sense.
- 29:25He's 32 and don't get me wrong, he's been great, but like we
- 29:32also don't know that I didn't looked.
- 29:34If you look up his VR page, I didn't realize he spent a few
- 29:37years elsewhere, I think Chicago and like one of their place
- 29:40before he got to Tampa and it was not good.
- 29:43It was not good. So I, I feel like Tampa like
- 29:46unleashed something or found something in him and you got to
- 29:50wonder. As they do.
- 29:51Like, yeah, as they do. But like, you got to wonder, can
- 29:54can the Padres unleash the same thing?
- 29:58Can you get the same thing out of him?
- 29:59Like, what Was it just Tampa or is this him?
- 30:03But at 32, three top 15 prospects and you're getting him
- 30:13for, we'll say, another 2530 innings this year.
- 30:21Just interesting, that's all. Head scratcher I think describes
- 30:28the best. He doesn't have control till
- 30:312026 so to be fair like you do have him for a while but just
- 30:37interesting. Speaking of interesting, how do
- 30:39we feel about Jazz Chisholm in the pinstripes?
- 30:46I think that looks as it all. And hey, if you can't see the
- 30:51look right now, what are you doing?
- 30:53Go subscribe on YouTube, hit up the three O take on YouTube and
- 30:57as the creator say, smash that subscribe button.
- 31:02I'm mixed, mixed emotions about it.
- 31:06Don't. Don't lie.
- 31:08Don't. Lie you.
- 31:09You don't like this move? I don't like this move.
- 31:12You don't like this move? I don't like this move.
- 31:14This didn't seem like a hole. This doesn't seem like it plugs
- 31:18a hole. Well, if you get rid of JD
- 31:20Davis. He's gone.
- 31:22Which you? Did.
- 31:24Yeah, I'd say that, I think. Well, I mean, anybody that was
- 31:27going to be coming in, he was going to be the next guy out.
- 31:30But. But.
- 31:31I it makes me wonder if the Reds are maybe not getting rid of
- 31:37Jonathan India. That seemed to me like it just
- 31:40it seemed like the perfect fit. To be fair, Glaber is like
- 31:46really turned it around since the All Star breaks.
- 31:48Been hot, but I think we know what Glaber is at this point.
- 31:53This is just weird. Like I, Jason Dominguez is right
- 31:56around the corner from being being ready to go and play in
- 31:59center field every day. Well, let me ask you this.
- 32:02Does this move now slide when when Jason Dominguez gets back,
- 32:08does this move slide Verdugo to the bench?
- 32:11I've I've seen that as a as a possibility.
- 32:14He's also gotten hot. Yeah, I mean, yeah, but I don't
- 32:18hate that. I don't hate this rotation of of
- 32:20four days or 4 outfielders rotating amongst the the the
- 32:25process here. And like I think it gives a
- 32:29little bit of cushion to Stanton maybe not being back in time for
- 32:34full time TH. So maybe you can rotate it as
- 32:36ADH through that time. It's just seems like he's more
- 32:42the same. Yes, he's fast, yes, he has
- 32:44athleticism. He's a lot of swinging miss.
- 32:48He's a lot of swinging miss 28. He got a 28% K rate in his
- 32:54career, but everyone's falling in love with what he's doing
- 32:59with runners in scoring position, slashing 33433 four,
- 33:0534568 for A1 dot OPS with runners in scoring position.
- 33:11So it's like maybe that's a little bit there, but there's
- 33:13still this need for like a true lead off guy that they don't
- 33:17have. And the Marlins got back a good
- 33:22one. I'm going to be honest with you,
- 33:24Augustine Ramirez is is a a damn good catcher and he's got some
- 33:29pop. I think he can also play first
- 33:31base immediately becomes their 4th ranked prospect.
- 33:35He's got an 862 OPS between AA and AAA this year.
- 33:39So they got a good piece. I just, I don't know then Jazz
- 33:46is under control. I just, it's an interesting fit
- 33:51and I don't know if his style of play enhances what we've already
- 33:57seen the Yankees kind of become at times when they're down,
- 34:00they're really down and they're really sluggish and they're
- 34:03really swinging miss and they're really emotional and they're,
- 34:06you know what I mean? And he just seems like more of
- 34:09the same. So I don't love it.
- 34:13This cannot be the only move. If this is a if this is your
- 34:18second best move of the deadline, then I'm OK.
- 34:20But if this is your best move of the deadline, I'm going to be
- 34:23disappointed. And also kind of weird that like
- 34:29maybe, maybe Tanner Scott not being included in this deal, it
- 34:34makes me kind of feel like the Yankees aren't able to get him
- 34:37because there's a lot of other teams that would happily grab
- 34:40Tanner Scott. So I don't know.
- 34:45I don't know how I feel. I think that says it best.
- 34:47I mean, if if jazz this, this may upset some people.
- 34:54This may hurt some people's feelings, but I I saw it may
- 34:57have been a just a tweet in passing.
- 34:59I apologize. I don't remember who who posted
- 35:01it, but it was something to the effect of like there, there has
- 35:04not been a player in recent memory forced on our throats
- 35:07more than Jazz Chisholm. True.
- 35:10And it's like when you look at this trade it, it certainly
- 35:15grabs your attention. It it it certainly pops off the
- 35:18screen a little bit. But when you when you step back
- 35:20and remind yourself who you're really looking at, who you're
- 35:23really dealing with here. This shouldn't be the Yankees
- 35:28best move at the deadline. This this shouldn't be.
- 35:31It's it's a good addition. I'm not going to say it's not
- 35:35given his his positional flexibility.
- 35:39But this can't be as you said, this can't be your best move if
- 35:43you're if you're Cashman, this cannot be your best move.
- 35:45Yeah, I think missing out on parades was was not was not
- 35:49good. Was not good.
- 35:53Yeah, I don't I don't know. We'll see.
- 35:55Time will tell The I think there's a high upside and I
- 35:59think you can see the swing play for sure.
- 36:01Duh. Everyone says it left the in
- 36:02Yankee Stadium, but I don't know.
- 36:05Just doesn't get me super fired up, doesn't give me super jazzed
- 36:08up, You know what I mean? Boom, hold on, let me find it.
- 36:13There it is. OK.
- 36:16Mets acquire Jesse Winker from the Nats in exchange for Tyler
- 36:22Stewart. I guess the only thing to really
- 36:26write home about is the the weird beef that he had with the
- 36:30Mets. Didn't he have beef?
- 36:33Yeah, he did. And I'd be quite honest with
- 36:35you, I was, I feel like I was a little unaware of that.
- 36:38I, I didn't know much about it, but apparently, yeah, him, him
- 36:42and him and the Mets fans I guess have, have not had the the
- 36:47greatest interaction. But I'm so over that.
- 36:50You, you see, you see guys squash that all the time.
- 36:53They get to where they're, I mean, that's, that's, that's
- 36:55normal, that's natural. Like you're, you don't want to
- 36:59be best buddies with opposing fan bases.
- 37:01Like that's just how that works. And even if you're, even if
- 37:05you're not fan or even if you're not actively trying to like turn
- 37:12yourself away from opposing fan bases, you're more than likely
- 37:15just not, you're not, you're not really into that.
- 37:20But the I'm not people keep making a big deal, but I'm not
- 37:24all that stressed about it. But I think people are more so
- 37:26just bringing that up as a talking point and and trying to
- 37:32maybe, I don't know. Just start a decent year hasn't.
- 37:36It stir things up a little bit. Yeah, he has.
- 37:39He coming into I guess today is Sunday got an OPS of 793 with 11
- 37:46jacks. So I mean.
- 37:50I don't know it I, I shout out, Andrew, one of our listeners
- 37:54texted me to asking about it yesterday and I was like, I'd
- 37:58it's it's like buying without buying.
- 38:01That's what it feels like. It's like buying without being a
- 38:05buyer. Does that make sense?
- 38:09Yeah, I mean, look, rag on the Mets all the time.
- 38:14To be set to be fair, though, this is like, I mean, it's a
- 38:18safe move. Like you're not you're you're
- 38:22not completely all in. Like if you're being honest with
- 38:25yourself, you're not completely all in, but you're also, you
- 38:28know, you're kind of kicking the tires on the postseason if
- 38:30you're the Mets. So like he's having, he's having
- 38:33a bounce back here. It's a safe move to where you're
- 38:36not unloading your farm for a move that may not end up even
- 38:39mattering come the end of September.
- 38:41So I can, I can respect the move in that regard.
- 38:45And the more I talk about it, I actually like the the move for
- 38:48the Mets more than I think I originally did because it's,
- 38:50it's plain a little safe. You're going to keep trucking
- 38:54along. They may not be done, we don't
- 38:57know, but they're going to just keep trucking along with what
- 39:00they got. And we're going to, we're going
- 39:04to see what they can do. All I know is the Braves there,
- 39:10there was a point this weekend where I think the Mets overtook
- 39:14them in the division temporarily.
- 39:15I think they have since lost that.
- 39:16But yeah, just be careful. Be care.
- 39:20I'm going to, I'm going to keep bringing it up every episode.
- 39:22Braves fans, just be careful. Be careful.
- 39:27Red Sox picking up James Paxson from the Dodgers in exchange for
- 39:32Moises Bolivar. I'm OK with it similar, but I
- 39:41mean, I'm not saying James, I'm not putting James Paxson and
- 39:45Jazz Chisholm in the same basket, but I'm, I'm thinking
- 39:48along the same lines as you where it's like.
- 39:50Can't be the best move. I've James Paxson, who was
- 39:54literally on your team last year.
- 39:55If like if this is your best move is just bringing back a guy
- 39:58that we already had who's having like a so so year.
- 40:03I mean, not not the worst we've ever seen, but not the best
- 40:08we've ever seen from James Paxson.
- 40:09Like if that's your best move, that's really concerning because
- 40:13of the move you made to bring Alex Kor back.
- 40:16And then you follow up with this.
- 40:17Yeah, and he was very much up for grabs, wasn't he on waivers?
- 40:24He was yeah. So or no DFADFA on Monday I
- 40:31think it was. Yeah, very much up for grabs
- 40:36yeah I if I'm if I'm you, I wouldn't feel super stoked about
- 40:42I mean it's depth, but I I. For the record, I don't, I don't
- 40:48hate it. I, I I'm OK with the move, but
- 40:50to to what we've been talking about for the last 1010 or so
- 40:53minutes. It just it feels like a end of
- 40:55the deadline kind of move, not a beginning of the deadline.
- 40:58I didn't realize. I mean he ranks in the bottom
- 41:028th percentile in K rate and walk rate this year.
- 41:06Both are bad. If I'm being completely frank,
- 41:09I'm not worried about numbers at this point.
- 41:11I just, we just need, we just need innings.
- 41:14We need Major League arms in the rotation especially.
- 41:16He's going to fill out the fifth spot in the rotation.
- 41:19Whatever, I'm I'm cool. He's he's bumping Cooper
- 41:22Criswell out. He's going to slot in at the
- 41:25five. I'm totally OK having James
- 41:27Paxton at at the five. That's that's not my point.
- 41:30You need pen help and you need another bat.
- 41:33You need another power bat in in the lineup.
- 41:35But if again, I'll reiterate if this is it.
- 41:38Well, Speaking of bats, how do you feel of the the Reese
- 41:40McGuire thing, Reese McGuire, Danny Jensen thing?
- 41:46Well, one for one. Essentially, Reese McGuire has
- 41:50since been DFA. I'm OK with it.
- 41:54I I didn't have any particular feelings about Reese McGuire.
- 41:59I know he's got his whole back story there, which.
- 42:02It's a tough one. It's a tough back story.
- 42:04No need to dig into that any further.
- 42:05But honestly because of that and it's super unfair, although it
- 42:09is self-inflicted, his whole back story.
- 42:12Very much it's. Very much self-inflicted.
- 42:16I just, I just got tired of it. I honestly, I just got to be
- 42:20quite honest with you. And I know that's unfair because
- 42:23like, you know, it's, it's in the guys past.
- 42:26I'm sure he's like, he's more than paid his dues in terms of
- 42:30like a national embarrassment and like all of I, I get that,
- 42:34but I personally, I just got tired of hearing about it.
- 42:36And so I'm glad that somebody else can deal with it because
- 42:39it's like it's, it's a joke, but it's all, quite frankly, it's a
- 42:43distraction. I mean, look at the, look at
- 42:47the. I feel like we were over it.
- 42:49I feel like we got past it. And then cow control is like,
- 42:52let me just remind the entire nation.
- 42:54And let me, let me let folks know that had no clue before
- 42:59today about what happened. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:01So I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm over it. It seems like Danny Jensen seems
- 43:05like a good clubhouse. Dude.
- 43:08I'm, I'm, I'm OK with it. I mean, it doesn't really move
- 43:11the needle for me, but you know it it.
- 43:14I think he hits well Fenway. Numbers wise, he's he's good, I
- 43:21believe. Yeah, he's going to provide.
- 43:22He hits well. Yeah, he's going to hit well at
- 43:24Fenway, hopefully moving forward.
- 43:27But he's going to bring you more than what I think Reese McGuire
- 43:30was giving you, even though that that tan, that catching tandem
- 43:34of Connor Wong and Reese McGuire had been working well, I'm like
- 43:39I said, I'm I'm just over the Reese McGuire thing and I'm.
- 43:42I think that's more of the Connor Wong side of things
- 43:44though. No, I mean, he's, he's been
- 43:46great. Oh no, for sure.
- 43:47I'm not. No, no, no.
- 43:48I'm definitely Connor Wong definitely having the better
- 43:50season. I'm not saying that, but I'm
- 43:51just saying I was OK. It's like, OK, Connor Wong needs
- 43:53a day on the bench. Sure, put in Reese McGuire,
- 43:56whatever, Didn't bother me all that much.
- 43:58But having having some new blood in there behind the dish
- 44:03occasionally and then like like you said, hitting a little bit
- 44:05better at Fenway. I'm I'm OK.
- 44:06I didn't. I didn't realize Jensen's been
- 44:09around that long. I think I saw like a Blue Jays
- 44:12tweet. It was like, thanks for a great
- 44:14eight years or something like that.
- 44:15And I was. Like hasn't really been that
- 44:16long. I know it, I could be wrong, but
- 44:21then it's been a while. We are talking about arms right
- 44:26now. I think we've transitioned into
- 44:27arms. We do have a question in the
- 44:29chat, Rodolfo asked, do you think the White Sox sell
- 44:32pitching this deadline? We didn't necessarily have this
- 44:34on the docket for today, but I think it's a, it's a worthwhile
- 44:38question to address because I feel like we're seeing back and
- 44:42forth reports on crochet and Kopec and really just, yeah,
- 44:49White Sox in general. They, I don't know what the deal
- 44:52is. They're they're playing it close
- 44:54to the vest. They're thinking about
- 44:57offloading guys, They're thinking about keeping guy.
- 45:00I don't know what's going on in Chicago, but I think if they
- 45:04fail to offload these guys, I think it's a huge mistake 'cause
- 45:09they don't have a they, they just don't have a a future right
- 45:12now. So like, what value does it do
- 45:14for them or what value does it bring them to keep crochet
- 45:18again? And who was, who was it that we
- 45:20were just talking about? Tarek Scubal Tigers get rid of
- 45:25them. White Sox get rid of crochet.
- 45:27These guys, they, these two examples of trade value are not
- 45:32going to be any higher than they are right now.
- 45:33So what are you doing holding on to them?
- 45:37I also saw not not giving the most credible source here, but a
- 45:43Bob Nightingale tweet about Crochet being I think his last
- 45:49three outings have been 4 innings or less.
- 45:52So the White Sox are for sure like heavily monitoring his
- 45:56innings because we talked about last episode like the the demand
- 46:02of being extended. Otherwise, he's not pitching in
- 46:06the postseason. I think if you're the White Sox,
- 46:09the value remains this offseason.
- 46:12It's still there. You know what I mean?
- 46:14He's still under control, barring any any shutdown or
- 46:19injury or anything like that that we see at the end of the
- 46:21year. So I think if you're not getting
- 46:23the offer that you're at, you're desiring.
- 46:26And I think it's a direct correlation to that demand.
- 46:29If a team is if a team, let's just say the Yankees are like,
- 46:32hey, we're sorry, we're not going to get an extension done
- 46:35in a month. We're out, but call us in
- 46:39November. Like if the if the White Sox
- 46:43aren't getting the offer that they're looking for, I don't I
- 46:47don't think they're necessarily losing any any value there.
- 46:50I think he still holds a ton of value this offseason.
- 46:55Then it and it allows teams to be a little bit more of a
- 46:59cautious buyer to see how he does for the rest of the season.
- 47:05Being at that is, you know, throwing his most amount of
- 47:08innings ever. And that's entirely why I
- 47:10believe that the White Sox need to offload him as soon as
- 47:13possible. 'Cause they're you, you're
- 47:15saying you don't know what he's going to do with the rest of.
- 47:17The year you don't know what he's going to even if he, even
- 47:19if he maintains, even if he finishes out this year strong,
- 47:22which that's even a question mark given the innings.
- 47:24Like you said, you just you, you know how the deadlines work and
- 47:31you know how the offseason works.
- 47:33The deadline teams are a little bit more quick to pull the
- 47:36trigger. They're more, I mean, we just
- 47:38talked about the Padres. The Padres love to just throw
- 47:41whatever in in, in all sorts of panic moves.
- 47:45There's got to be a team out there that's willing to, maybe
- 47:50not willing to, but that would be likely to hit the panic
- 47:55button and go, OK, take what you want for crochet, we'll take
- 47:58them and then maybe the White Sox.
- 48:02I think it does get done. I think it, I think I'm Aaron on
- 48:05the side that it does get done. It's going to be a late deadline
- 48:08thing. I think it's going to be a late
- 48:10deadline thing. Kopec gone as well.
- 48:21Yeah, I mean, every, from everything I've seen, Kopec is
- 48:27much further, much further towards the top of the hopper in
- 48:30terms of guys that they're probably going to be parting
- 48:33ways with. Is there another name?
- 48:36Fetty. Fetty, Thank you.
- 48:38Yeah, yeah. Now that's a guy that's a guy I
- 48:42think could, could real like a very underrated move that I
- 48:45think would benefit some clubs. I, I think, I think Fetty
- 48:50figured something out overseas and it's, it's translated fairly
- 48:55well over here. I would say so.
- 48:57I think the the Louise Robert thing is dead, unless the
- 49:00Dodgers are really just willing willing to give up everything.
- 49:07Get both because Philly. I felt like Philly was was a
- 49:14possibility, felt like the Yankees were a possibility.
- 49:19There's not so many other teams that like in dire needs of a of
- 49:25a big bat center fielder. Maybe Astros.
- 49:29Astros. I mean rarely do you seem see a
- 49:32team tinker around with like some a lower tier moves and then
- 49:36make a splash. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 49:39A deal like that you're that's kind of your.
- 49:42Your thing that's. That's your move at that point.
- 49:45You're you're not making multiple moves and then going
- 49:48for a a insane package of Crochet and Robert like that.
- 49:54I think the Dodgers would be the only team willing to.
- 49:56Anything like that? Yeah.
- 49:58So whatever. Time will tell.
- 50:04Yeah, who do we got now? Speaking to the Phillies picked
- 50:10up Carlos Estevas. How do we feel about this 31
- 50:19year old closer? Smart.
- 50:23Just smart. Set to be a rental.
- 50:25Yeah, just smart bullpen depth Phillies.
- 50:31Look, I just less and less holes, you know what I mean?
- 50:35Everything they do from here on out that the deadline I they're
- 50:39I think they do a good job. I hate giving Dave Dombrowski
- 50:45this much credit, but like, kid can.
- 50:47You. How can you not?
- 50:48Can you think of anything like the man just doesn't miss lately
- 50:54and he's just doing everything the right way?
- 50:56And, you know, I, I think there's maybe some rotation
- 51:03depth. I don't know if there's question
- 51:05marks around Ranger Suarez. There probably should be.
- 51:08The man's definitely falling back down to earth quickly, but
- 51:13there's not a whole lot of holes that you got to worry about.
- 51:18I haven't I haven't checked in on Trey lately.
- 51:21How's he been swinging? I know he was on fire right
- 51:26around the All Star break. Assuming it's back to that could
- 51:32horrible. All right.
- 51:34Also, why do we say Esteves versus Estevez?
- 51:42You know what I mean? Well, that's just me and.
- 51:45I've heard that though, I'll say.
- 51:46It for the I'll say it for the one thousandth time, I'm the
- 51:49last guy that you want to try to get a correct pronunciation out
- 51:53of when it comes to a name. Trey Turner Still Trey Turner
- 51:57sitting 3/26. Yeah, To your point, though,
- 52:02about Dave Dombrowski, that's that is a a figure in baseball
- 52:06whose hate I will never understand.
- 52:09Yeah, I know How, how who cares if he empties the farm?
- 52:15Yeah, he gives you a chance. Like, what are we talking about?
- 52:19Is that a bad thing now? Like it is like the cool thing
- 52:23to just hoard prospects is, is that is that the state of
- 52:26baseball now? Yes, no, get rid of your
- 52:29prospects. Go get the proven talent that we
- 52:32always talk about and give yourself a chance.
- 52:37OK, sick. You had the best farm system in
- 52:39baseball for the the last five years.
- 52:42Congrats, you're going to hang a banner for that.
- 52:47I, I've never understand why, why people dislike Dave
- 52:50Dombrowski so much. And I, I, I understand there's
- 52:52certainly a bias there, but like what, what are we talking about?
- 52:56Every team that he's gone to, he's given them a shot.
- 52:59Now whether or not whether or not they prefer that on field
- 53:02product performed, that's a different conversation.
- 53:05That's a little bit more on them.
- 53:07But in terms of personnel on paper, plugging holes, making
- 53:11additions. Got the Tiger, got the Tigers to
- 53:15a World Series, got the Red Sox to multiple World Series, got
- 53:18the Phillies to World Series. Like the man is, he delivers.
- 53:22That's what he does. I mean it and like it's what do
- 53:27you care as a fan? Like it's not your, it's not
- 53:29your checkbook. You know what I mean?
- 53:31You're not paying this payroll. Stupid.
- 53:37Yeah. For the record, I think he only
- 53:38got the socks to one but. Did he?
- 53:42Point second yeah 18. I don't know if you got the
- 53:45Tigers, you got the one. I just pulled that out of
- 53:47nowhere, so we'll see. The Yeah.
- 53:48The point is, though, it's just like he gives you a shot that
- 53:52I'll just never understand. Who else we got here.
- 53:55Yimi Garcia, Mariners. We were talking Mariners a
- 53:57little earlier. Mariners picked up Yimi Garcia
- 54:01in exchange for outfitter. Jonathan.
- 54:03Jonathan. Jonathan.
- 54:04Jonathan. Sure.
- 54:07I don't know where where the H is.
- 54:09Class A, Class A and catcher Jacob Sharp.
- 54:16This was another one of the moves that we alluded to where
- 54:18it's like, OK, you're, you're inching along, you're moving in
- 54:22the in the direction that you need to, but you're going to
- 54:24need to go above and beyond. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:27Where'd he go again? I already forgot channel.
- 54:32OK, Yeah, I was thinking more than Blue Jays side.
- 54:36Like if this is the only move you make that I'm that I'm still
- 54:39disappointed. Like you need to sell more.
- 54:41The Blue Jays need to sell more. There's there's you need to, you
- 54:44need a little bit of like some high, high, you know, AA AAA
- 54:51level prospects to like that are ready to come in and and start
- 54:55doing some stuff. So.
- 54:57Well, I mean, once, once the once the calendar turns or once
- 55:00the clock turns to Monday, we're we're full blown trade deadline
- 55:06mode. Like I think, I think things are
- 55:07going to, you're going to start seeing the bigger names fall.
- 55:09I mean, like we already mentioned, we've already seen a
- 55:11couple of the big names fall off the board, but I I wouldn't
- 55:16count the Jays out just yet for or in terms of selling and I
- 55:20think there's still some, some things to take place there.
- 55:25There's names that can go. Kikuchi is got to be going
- 55:27somewhere, pretty sure. I know the Vlad thing is like a
- 55:31desire for a lot of baseball fans.
- 55:34It's maybe, I don't know if that's going to happen, but
- 55:37yeah, they got to move some guys.
- 55:39What? Does it?
- 55:41What was it that they said? I think the Jays came out and
- 55:47and talked about who they were willing to part ways with more.
- 55:49I I think it was Bo, wasn't it, that they were or sorry to hold
- 55:53on to. I think they said Bo or they
- 55:57alluded to, I guess was the guy that they were more likely to.
- 56:01Keep fully fair, which I I fully am OK with.
- 56:10That's great. Jazz, with his first game back,
- 56:13getting hurt. As as we see Jazz Chisholm in
- 56:16pain at second base talk talk about in addition for the inks.
- 56:24I yell. I yell tomorrow.
- 56:27But yeah, Mariners. Yeah, keep doing your thing.
- 56:32Keep going. This can't be it.
- 56:35Need a bigger splash? Need more?
- 56:39We already talked about the OS and Phillies deal, so that
- 56:43leaves us with some Kodai Singa news.
- 56:46Tough break for the Mets, dude. Tough break.
- 56:49Yeah, came back for a bag of chips and then and, you know,
- 56:54half a sandwich and then he was done.
- 56:57Didn't even get to finish his lunch.
- 56:58Didn't even get to finish his lunch or his dinner.
- 57:01I guess you could say it was a was a night game that he was
- 57:04pitching, but tough break man comes back from the IL and then
- 57:14gets hit with a high quote, high grade calf strain.
- 57:17And I told you if you if you saw the video.
- 57:20I did not see it by the way. That was not pretty.
- 57:23That was not pretty. Like, I'm sitting here
- 57:26wondering, like, how in the world does a calf strain knock
- 57:30you out for, what do they say, 8810 weeks for a calf strain?
- 57:38And then I watched the video and I'm like, yeah.
- 57:42Oh, so tough makes. Sense.
- 57:44Tough with the with the rod. Aaron Rodgers coming out with
- 57:47the American flag? Yep, like.
- 57:49So, so a lot of those comps, yeah, yeah, it make that makes
- 57:57sense that that looks painful at this.
- 57:59I mean, at this point, the next time you're going to see him is
- 58:04possibly the post season. And I say that kind of quietly
- 58:08because it's the Mets. But like at that point, what are
- 58:15you really going to be getting from him?
- 58:16I, I don't know if Kodaisenga at this stage in the game is going
- 58:19to be able to give you that much because he just, he doesn't have
- 58:23the innings under his belt. Nate's locked into this Yankees
- 58:27Red Sox game. He doesn't have he doesn't have
- 58:30the Yeah, you're watching the video.
- 58:33It's ugly, dude. It's I hate watching injury
- 58:38highlights. It's not really hot.
- 58:40It's not the right word to use. It's not a highlight, but you
- 58:42get what I mean? I don't like watching replays of
- 58:44highlight or replays of highlights, Replays of injuries.
- 58:47What? Was he even doing?
- 58:48He's just trying to get off the mound to get out of the way.
- 58:50As he's supposed to do as a pitcher, if there's a fly ball
- 58:54that's approaching the the mound, you are responsible for
- 58:58getting out of the way. Which is what he did.
- 59:00So props to Kodai for doing what a pitcher supposed to do,
- 59:03however. Props to Kodai for not
- 59:05stretching at all before your start.
- 59:07Yeah, that's that's a little tough.
- 59:10Just do a toe, some toe touches man.
- 59:12That goes goes a long way. That was immediately my thought,
- 59:14though, I'm like, that just looks like a guy that didn't
- 59:17exactly get loosened up before the game 'cause I mean, he, it
- 59:21was like immediate that that first, that first step he took.
- 59:27I was like. What was it?
- 59:28I think it was. The point of that buddy?
- 59:31Was Green Greenlaw the the linebacker in the 49 for the
- 59:3549ers in the Super Bowl, like just running off the sideline
- 59:38tears? His Achilles didn't even get to
- 59:40play. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 59:42Just it's weird stuff. And the lower, like the lower
- 59:45half is just, it just takes a very subtle strange move.
- 59:48I was watching a a random video of like some guy sitting talking
- 59:54to Joe Rogan and he had like his knee up on the chair and he tore
- 59:58his MCL like guitarist meniscus just like right there, like
- 1:00:02sitting in a chair. Legs are weird man legs happen.
- 1:00:05It's just. Especially as you get older.
- 1:00:07Yeah. Once you hit 30, it's.
- 1:00:11It's all downhill. It's all downhill.
- 1:00:13Or uphill. Or uphill, depending on, you
- 1:00:16know, half empty, half a full country.
- 1:00:19That's fair. Yeah.
- 1:00:19Yeah. Good, Good point.
- 1:00:22Yeah. Tyler Fitzgerald, we'll close
- 1:00:24with this. Whoa, what a run for the San
- 1:00:28Francisco Giant. Eight home runs in 10 games.
- 1:00:32He's on an 11 game hitting streak after Saturday.
- 1:00:37Coming into Sunday, he was hitting 390 for the month of
- 1:00:41July 11. Next, 11 extra base hits, 15
- 1:00:45ribbies and 13 runs scored. And that was that's including a
- 1:00:49stretch of not not playing. I believe like you, he came up I
- 1:00:55think for like a cup of coffee played played a few games there
- 1:01:02because I think he was waiting out Nick Ahmed who they I want
- 1:01:06to say DFA put on waivers. So yeah, for like AI think for
- 1:01:13like a week, maybe more wasn't playing and then comes back July
- 1:01:1620th home run, home run, home run, home run.
- 1:01:20Days. No home run, no home run, two
- 1:01:23home runs, no home run and then a home run last night.
- 1:01:27This. Didn't hit one today, but
- 1:01:30continue the hitting streak. You added him today, somebody,
- 1:01:33didn't you? I sure did.
- 1:01:37But just AI mean you don't. You don't see runs like this too
- 1:01:42often. But is it just me or I feel I
- 1:01:45want to say like the last three to five years we've seen more
- 1:01:50guys or I feel like you hear these kinds of things more than
- 1:01:56you used to. No, like you just hear about
- 1:01:57these guys that kind of come up. And then no, I'm not saying
- 1:02:00eight home runs in 10 games. I'm not saying that that level.
- 1:02:03But I just feel like we hear about these guys where it's like
- 1:02:06who like what's his name Rhys Hines for the Reds guy comes up.
- 1:02:11It's like, what is where did this come from?
- 1:02:14And I feel like the list of the list of guys that you see go on
- 1:02:18little runs like that, who are guys that you maybe hadn't
- 1:02:23otherwise from a national perspective, sure.
- 1:02:25Just the casual National Baseball fan probably hasn't
- 1:02:29heard of. And you're like, what?
- 1:02:32Why this guy? What it does, it does happen,
- 1:02:35right? The the scary thing is, who's
- 1:02:36the guy with the Reds a few years ago?
- 1:02:39Oh, OK. A risk is like a Aquino.
- 1:02:42Aquino. Aquino.
- 1:02:43Aquino, Yeah, yeah. Aquino.
- 1:02:45Aquino, Yeah. A wrist tape?
- 1:02:48Quinoa. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:52He did. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:02:53And that in my in my head, that's what.
- 1:02:55But he's just like. Gone.
- 1:02:56You know what I mean? Like he's sick for two weeks and
- 1:02:58then just never hear from him again.
- 1:03:00I, I, that guy could be bagging groceries for all I know.
- 1:03:02I have no idea where he is now. So you just hope that it stays.
- 1:03:05You just hope that like, you know, you can, you can bottle
- 1:03:08this up and keep it rolling. So do the Giants.
- 1:03:14Well, I feel like. It does your fantasy team.
- 1:03:18Doesn't always end up well because I'm pretty sure the guy
- 1:03:22I just mentioned Reese Hines, didn't he get option back to
- 1:03:24triple AI want to say? Well.
- 1:03:33I mean never. I mean, you, you reach the
- 1:03:36mountain top that quick, you put on that kind of show.
- 1:03:39There's only one way to go after that.
- 1:03:41It doesn't end up well, I I'll be honest with you, I thought we
- 1:03:45were going to get some or some trades taking place during this
- 1:03:49pod. It was kind of strange.
- 1:03:50I was wanting to hit the button. I was wanting to hit the button
- 1:03:55but. Just give it.
- 1:03:56Just give it about 7 minutes after we hop off.
- 1:04:00Yep, in in classic three to take fashion we'll and you know,
- 1:04:05quite honestly, they'll probably be the biggest trade of the
- 1:04:07deadline. It'll happen 12 minutes after we
- 1:04:12we hop off here. So be looking forward to that.
- 1:04:14We'll be talking about that deal and all the other ones to come
- 1:04:19on Wednesday. Trade deadline is Tuesday.
- 1:04:22So we'll be doing a little bit of a wrap up once the fallout,
- 1:04:26you know, once the dust settles because as, as you know, every
- 1:04:29year you get the deadline deal, you get the last minute deal,
- 1:04:32but then you get the deals that that trickle in minutes, maybe
- 1:04:36even hours after. The favorite dude, Greg
- 1:04:38Amsinger, just, Oh yeah, rattling them off.
- 1:04:41It's my favorite. I love it.
- 1:04:44So yeah, we'll be we'll be wrapping up everything that
- 1:04:47happens. Trade deadline related on
- 1:04:50Wednesday, episode 455. Be sure to check that out.
- 1:04:53Be sure to subscribe on YouTube, subscribe to the pod and come
- 1:04:59hang out with us on on the on on the on the stream on Wednesday
- 1:05:03'cause as if you're new. This is this is something we do
- 1:05:08now, like we lot. We do these podcasts live now
- 1:05:12and then we we upload. We obviously upload the the
- 1:05:14audio after the fact, but we appreciate those of you in the
- 1:05:17live right now that are listening always and taking it
- 1:05:21in as it's happening. So be sure to it'll probably be
- 1:05:25some somewhat at the same time on Wednesday, 7-8 sometime in
- 1:05:29there. We'll see what next Nate's work
- 1:05:32schedule allows for. But we'll be, we'll be, as I
- 1:05:36mentioned, recap and all things trade deadline Wednesday.
- 1:05:38So come hang out with us. Yeah.
- 1:05:42Other other than that though, I don't have much else.
- 1:05:46So Nate, take it away. Barring an epic collapse of the
- 1:05:53Yankee bullpen, which is not out of the picture, how do you feel
- 1:05:58about how do you feel about, you know, needing to go win three
- 1:06:05out of the three out of the next 4 in order to win this bet?
- 1:06:09Are you nervous? Are you feeling OK?
- 1:06:11Should be up two games to one. We should have won game two.
- 1:06:14This game's throw away. Whatever.
- 1:06:15I don't care. The whole Sunday Sox thing is
- 1:06:18out the window. I think we've lost the last two
- 1:06:20Sundays after going I think 15 and two on Sundays this year.
- 1:06:25So that's whatever. That's out of dead.
- 1:06:28That's dead, but should have won game one, should have won game
- 1:06:32two. But you know what, we'll go on
- 1:06:33to the Bronx. We'll take three or four and
- 1:06:35I'll take this bet and I'll do it with a smile on my face.
- 1:06:38So that's that's big gap, big gap.
- 1:06:42To see see what these teams become in the next month and a
- 1:06:46half, not till the end of September, so.
- 1:06:50I hope we remember it at that point.
- 1:06:52Yeah, I know. I.
- 1:06:53Don't want to forget about the bet.
- 1:06:54And if you if you don't know what bet we're talking about,
- 1:06:56there's going to be some some rather embarrassing shirts.
- 1:07:01Well, the shirt the shirts idea is already cooked up, but only
- 1:07:04one of us is going to be wearing the shirt.
- 1:07:05The loser is going to be wearing the shirt and they're they're,
- 1:07:08they're not exactly the most, I don't know, just it's tough.
- 1:07:17Look, it's not, it's not the first shirt you'd pull out of
- 1:07:20the closet to wear. I'll just say that.
- 1:07:22Definitely not, but an excellent, excellent idea.
- 1:07:25So we'll see. And a donation to the the
- 1:07:29opponent's respective teams like the the team's foundation.
- 1:07:32Yeah, yeah. So.
- 1:07:34We'll see. We'll see how it goes.
- 1:07:37All right, that's all I got. Awesome.
- 1:07:41Appreciate you guys. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:07:44We love you all as always. Looking forward to talking more
- 1:07:45baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
