- 0:12Hello friends, it's Shawn. Here it is, Wednesday it is the
- 0:178th of May. Hello, good to have your
- 0:21company. Let us together.
- 0:23Well, read a chapter, which is kind of a bit of a bonus because
- 0:27normally we have to wait until Friday to read Assam where we
- 0:31read the words of often King David as he writes these songs
- 0:34of praise. But no, no, we are skipping
- 0:38genres today as chapter 22 in the book of Second Samuel.
- 0:43It's actually the entire chapter is a song of praise that David
- 0:47Wrights. And so this feels a whole lot
- 0:49like a Sam. But it is placed here in the
- 0:52narrative of his life to show that he really was a king who
- 0:57loved his God. And when he wanted to express
- 1:00that love, he broke out into song.
- 1:02Isn't that wonderful? And so here we have the the
- 1:06author of this book choose to include this.
- 1:09And so here we have it today and we will read it together.
- 1:13So this is going to be David's praise, springing from his
- 1:19heart, overflowing and flooding out.
- 1:23And we'll enjoy it. You ready?
- 1:25Let us read together. Second Samuel, Chapter 22.
- 1:40David sang this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him
- 1:44from all his enemies and from soul he sang, The Lord is my
- 1:51rock, my fortress, and my saviour.
- 1:54My God is my rock in whom I find protection.
- 1:58He is my shield, the power that saves me and my place of safety.
- 2:04He is my refuge, my saviour, the one who saves me from violence.
- 2:10I called on the Lord who was worthy of praise, and he saved
- 2:13me from my enemies. The waves of death overwhelmed
- 2:18me. Floods of destruction swept over
- 2:20me. The grave wrapped its ropes
- 2:23around me. Death laid a trap in my path.
- 2:26But in my distress I called out to the Lord.
- 2:30Yes, I cried to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary.
- 2:35My cry reached his ears. Then the earth quaked and
- 2:40trembled. The foundations of the heavens
- 2:43shook. They quaked because of his
- 2:45anger. Smoke poured from his nostrils.
- 2:49Fierce flames leapt from his mouth.
- 2:51Glowing coals blazed forth from him.
- 2:55He opened the heavens and came down.
- 2:58Dark storm clouds were beneath his feet, mounted on a mighty
- 3:03angelic being. He flew, soaring on the wings of
- 3:07the wind. He shrouded himself in darkness,
- 3:11veiling his approach with dense rain clouds.
- 3:15A great brightness shone around him, and burning coals blazed
- 3:19forth. The Lord thundered from heaven,
- 3:22the voice of the Most High Resounded, He shot arrows and
- 3:27scattered his enemies. His lightning flashed, and they
- 3:30were confused. Then, at the command of the
- 3:33Lord, at the blast of his breath, the bottom of the sea
- 3:37could be seen and the foundations of the earth were
- 3:40laid bare, he reached down from heaven and rescued me.
- 3:45He drew me out of the deep waters.
- 3:49He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me
- 3:53and were too strong for me. They attacked me at the moment
- 3:57when I was in distress, but the Lords supported me.
- 4:01He led me to a place of safety. He rescued me because he
- 4:05delighted me. The Lord rewarded me for doing
- 4:09right. He restored me because of my
- 4:11innocence, for I have kept the ways of the Lord.
- 4:15I have not turned from my God to follow evil.
- 4:18I have followed all His regulations.
- 4:21I have never abandoned His decrees.
- 4:23I'm blameless before God. I've kept myself from sin.
- 4:28The Lord rewarded me for doing right.
- 4:31He had seen my innocence. To the faithful, you show
- 4:36yourself faithful. To those with integrity, you
- 4:40show integrity. To the pure, you show yourself
- 4:44pure. But to the crooked, you show
- 4:46yourself shrewd. You rescue the humble, but your
- 4:50eyes watch the proud and humiliate them.
- 4:53I'll Lord You are my lamp. The Lord lights up my darkness
- 4:59in your strength. I can crush an army with my God.
- 5:04I can scale any wall. God's way is perfect.
- 5:08All the Lord's promises prove true.
- 5:11He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
- 5:15For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?
- 5:22God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect.
- 5:28He makes me a sure footed as a deer, enabling me to stand on
- 5:32mountain heights. He trains my hand for battle.
- 5:36He strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.
- 5:40You have given me your shield of victory.
- 5:43Your help has made me great. You have made a wide path for my
- 5:48feet to keep them from slipping. I chased my enemies and
- 5:52destroyed them. I did not stop until they were
- 5:55conquered. I consumed them.
- 5:58I struck them down South. They did not get up.
- 6:01They fell beneath my feet. You have armed me with strength
- 6:05for the battle. You have subdued my enemies
- 6:07under my feet. You've placed my foot on their
- 6:11necks. I've destroyed all who hated me.
- 6:14They looked for help, but no one came to their rescue.
- 6:18They even cried to the Lord, but he refused to answer.
- 6:21I grounded them as fine as the dust of the earth.
- 6:25I trampled them in the gutter like dirt.
- 6:28You gave me victory over my accusers.
- 6:32You preserved me as the ruler over nations.
- 6:35People I don't even know now serve me.
- 6:38Foreign nations cringe before me.
- 6:40As soon as they hear of me, they submit.
- 6:43They lose all their courage and come trembling from their
- 6:46strongholds. The Lord lives, praises to my
- 6:50rock. May God, the rock of my
- 6:52salvation, be exalted. He is the God who pays back
- 6:58those who harm me. He brings down the nations under
- 7:01me and delivers me from my enemies.
- 7:04You hold me safe, beyond the reach of my enemies.
- 7:08You save me from violent opponents for this.
- 7:11Oh Lord, I will praise you among the nations.
- 7:16I will sing praises to your name.
- 7:19You give great victories to your king.
- 7:21You show unfailing love to your anointed to David and all his
- 7:27descendants forever. Ah Lord, thank you for this
- 7:42Psalm, this chapter, this song of praise.
- 7:47Hi, David's words. We see you as this mighty mighty
- 7:53God who descends in power from the heavens.
- 7:57Coming not to dominate the world, but to protect and to
- 8:02uphold your chosen ones. That's us.
- 8:07That is us. And you come in all this power,
- 8:12but at the same time you come with this tenderness for your
- 8:16beloved. We feel the love that you give
- 8:22us. We see your kindness and love in
- 8:27the person of Jesus. We experience your love and your
- 8:31intimacy through the gift of your Spirit.
- 8:36Thank you Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- 8:42You are amazing. Enormous, powerful, intimate and
- 8:48present. And we are so grateful, and we
- 8:52just humbly, humbly submit to you, and we receive your
- 8:59presence, and we can be close to you and pray all these things
- 9:05through the sacrifice and the name of Jesus.
- 9:09Amen.
