- 1:21That is after the show is over.
- 1:23Before I get into the show, I do
- 1:27want to give a shout out to Cabana
- 1:30Coffee in ...
- 1:32Oh, they're located in New Jersey, actually, in
- 1:36Glen Rock.
- 1:37So that's at 1016 Maple Avenue, Glen Rock.
- 1:41It's called Cabana, C-A-B-A-N
- 1:44-A, Coffee.
- 1:46And yes, it's a pretty interesting place.
- 1:52I had the opportunity to meet the owner
- 1:54not too long ago, actually going to be
- 1:56going back probably and seeing them again soon.
- 1:59But seems like a nice little friendly coffee
- 2:01spot.
- 2:02The people seem like they're attentive there, and
- 2:06I think it's going to be a nice
- 2:09place for us to have a show.
- 2:11So I'm reaching out to you at Cabana
- 2:14Coffee Company in Glen Rock, New Jersey, to
- 2:19go to jcmcademy.com and to click on
- 2:22the Contact Us page and to ask us
- 2:25to come and do a show.
- 2:27You can host us.
- 2:28It's completely free.
- 2:29At 15 minutes before the show, we get
- 2:31set up.
- 2:32After that, we start the show.
- 2:34It's about 27 minutes, give or take a
- 2:36few minutes.
- 2:36And then what we do next is we
- 2:39close the show out.
- 2:40Then we have an author talk for a
- 2:41half hour.
- 2:42We do a 15-minute Q&A, and
- 2:44then we do an author signing.
- 2:46So I would love to do that.
- 2:48Also would love to tell the story about
- 2:50Cabana Coffee.
- 2:51They seem like a very different kind of
- 2:54coffee place, but one that I think a
- 2:56lot of people definitely should check out.
- 3:00So again, hats off to Cabana Coffee Company
- 3:04in Glen Rock, New Jersey.
- 3:07So yes, hopefully they'll ask us to do
- 3:11a live show there.
- 3:12So this is Inspirations for Your Life, everyone,
- 3:14the master weekly topic that kicked off yesterday
- 3:16with Series 5, Show 32, build a life
- 3:19that truly matters.
- 3:21Yes.
- 3:22And so the granular is this for Series
- 3:275, Show 32, basically episode number two, how
- 3:32to create more value every day.
- 3:36Yeah.
- 3:37Can you believe we're Series 5, Show 32
- 3:39already?
- 3:39Episode two, I can't believe that.
- 3:41So welcome, everyone, to the ever-popular Inspirations
- 3:44for Your Life show.
- 3:46So great to have you here.
- 3:47I am John C.
- 3:49Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 3:54podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 3:59Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner, and so
- 4:03grateful now to be a published author.
- 4:06Yes, it is such a privilege and pleasure.
- 4:09And yes, another book is coming out.
- 4:10I'll share that a little bit later, probably
- 4:12later this year.
- 4:13Many people believe success is something we pursue,
- 4:16but in reality, success is often something that
- 4:20follows the value we create for others.
- 4:23Whether you're helping a customer, supporting a coworker,
- 4:28encouraging a friend, or even solving a problem,
- 4:31every interaction is an opportunity to make a
- 4:35positive impact.
- 4:36And I think that's a very important thing
- 4:38that a lot of people don't realize.
- 4:40It's about making that impact, right?
- 4:43That impact is the key, guys.
- 4:46It really is.
- 4:47So building a life that truly matters isn't
- 4:50about collecting achievements.
- 4:52It's about becoming someone whose presence improves the
- 4:57lives of the people around them.
- 5:00Today, I'm going to explore 30 practical principles
- 5:03that will help you and others create more
- 5:06value every single day of their lives.
- 5:08Are you ready?
- 5:09I know I am.
- 5:09Number one, give your best daily, okay?
- 5:12Every day presents a new opportunity to do
- 5:15your best.
- 5:17You don't have to be perfect, but you
- 5:20should strive to leave every situation knowing you
- 5:24gave your full effort.
- 5:26Number two, focus on serving others.
- 5:29When you shift your attention from what you
- 5:32can get to what you can give, your
- 5:35relationships, opportunities, and influence begin to grow naturally.
- 5:42Number three, add value everywhere in everything you
- 5:45do.
- 5:46Whether you're at work, at home, or in
- 5:48your own community, always look for ways to
- 5:51make things better when you found them.
- 5:54Number four, solve meaningful problems.
- 5:58The people who solve important problems become valuable
- 6:02because they make life easier, better, or more
- 6:07productive for others.
- 6:09Number five, listen before speaking.
- 6:12Yes, listening demonstrates respect and helps you understand
- 6:17what people truly need before offering your thoughts
- 6:22or advice.
- 6:24Number six, build trust, guys.
- 6:27Trust isn't earned through words alone.
- 6:29Many people think they are.
- 6:30It's not.
- 6:31It's built through honesty, consistency, integrity, and doing
- 6:36what you say you'll do, right, whether somebody
- 6:38is watching or not.
- 6:40Number seven, be dependable and accountable.
- 6:43People remember those they can count on.
- 6:46Reliability creates confidence, okay, and it strengthens every
- 6:50relationship.
- 6:52Number eight, learn continuously.
- 6:55The more knowledge and experience you gain, the
- 6:59more value you're able to offer others.
- 7:02Number nine, encourage others.
- 7:05Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone
- 7:08is genuine encouragement.
- 7:10Your words may help someone believe in themselves
- 7:14again, and that's priceless.
- 7:17Number 10, guys, stay generous.
- 7:21Generosity isn't only about money.
- 7:24You can be generous with your time, your
- 7:28knowledge, patience, kindness, and attention.
- 7:33Number 11, share your knowledge.
- 7:36Don't keep valuable lessons to yourself.
- 7:40Sharing what you've learned helps others grow while
- 7:45reinforcing your own understanding.
- 7:47Number 12, think beyond yourself.
- 7:52Ask yourself how your actions affect the people
- 7:55around you.
- 7:57Lasting success often comes from creating benefits that
- 8:01extend beyond your own interests.
- 8:05Number 13, build strong relationships.
- 8:09Meaningful relationships require time, honesty, trust, and consistent
- 8:14effort.
- 8:15Invest in people because they matter more than
- 8:18possessions ever will, all right?
- 8:22I think that's important to understand.
- 8:23Number 14, stay authentic.
- 8:25People appreciate authenticity more than anything.
- 8:28My new show that I just launched, A
- 8:31Day in the Life with Jon, it's a
- 8:32bi-weekly show.
- 8:34It's on Monday and Thursday, but I stream
- 8:38it at night.
- 8:39It's usually a 10 to 18-minute show
- 8:41roughly, and it shares what I did during
- 8:43the day.
- 8:43Be genuine, stay true to your values, and
- 8:46allow your character to speak louder than your
- 8:51words.
- 8:53That's powerful, guys.
- 8:55Make every interaction matter.
- 8:58Everyone, every conversation is an opportunity to leave
- 9:03someone feeling encouraged, respected, informed, or inspired.
- 9:09I think we do these things not because
- 9:13we have to, but because we enjoy the
- 9:16collaboration with other people.
- 9:17I think that's a real important thing for
- 9:21us to understand.
- 9:21Number 16, please create positive influence in your
- 9:25life.
- 9:25Every action you take sends a message, whether
- 9:28it's through voice, whether it's through just how
- 9:33you look, your body language, it sends a
- 9:36message.
- 9:36Your attitude, your work ethic, and your character
- 9:40influence people.
- 9:42Whether you realize it or not, they can
- 9:44tell the kind of person you are just
- 9:46by being around you.
- 9:48People that don't hang around you kind of
- 9:51know that they pick up that you're authentic.
- 9:56Maybe they're not, and they're afraid you're going
- 9:58to pick that up.
- 10:00Make that influence one that encourages growth, respect,
- 10:04and integrity.
- 10:06Number 17, help people grow.
- 10:09In our world, it's very competitive, I get
- 10:12it, but we should want to help others.
- 10:14We should.
- 10:15But a lot of times people don't want
- 10:17to help others because, well, let's just say
- 10:20that they're selfish.
- 10:23They are selfish.
- 10:24I think that's an important thing to understand,
- 10:29that sometimes people can be selfish.
- 10:33I think that's an important thing for us
- 10:35to know, but it's really, really important, guys,
- 10:39really, really important.
- 10:41So help people grow.
- 10:42One of the greatest ways to create value
- 10:44is by helping someone else become just a
- 10:48little bit better.
- 10:49Share your experiences, offer guidance, and celebrate the
- 10:53success of others as enthusiastically as you can,
- 10:58as it's your own.
- 11:00When we celebrate someone else's success and we
- 11:06join in on that, they enjoy that.
- 11:10And then when you have a success, they
- 11:13want to celebrate it too.
- 11:15So it helps with the energy, right?
- 11:17Helps with the fact that people being people.
- 11:21Number 18, stay grateful.
- 11:23Gratitude changes your perspective all the time.
- 11:26Instead of focusing on what's missing, appreciate what
- 11:31you've been given and use it wisely.
- 11:34Gratitude fuels generosity and strengthens relationships.
- 11:40Number 19, build community.
- 11:42Success is rarely achieved alone.
- 11:46Invest in the people around you, support your
- 11:49community, and create environments where others feel welcomed,
- 11:53valued, and encouraged to succeed.
- 11:57I think a lot of people out there,
- 11:59they try to talk the talk.
- 12:02But what I found is they really don't
- 12:04walk the walk.
- 12:05And there's a reason for it.
- 12:07It's a misalignment with their core values and
- 12:10acting and being authentic.
- 12:12There are a lot of people out there
- 12:13that are not authentic.
- 12:16They're in it for them.
- 12:17There's a couple of radio stations I want
- 12:19to tell you about.
- 12:19One is WIIFM and WIIFU.
- 12:25No, it's not what you think.
- 12:27WIIFU is what's in it for you.
- 12:31WIIFM is what's in it for me.
- 12:33If I'm only listening to the radio station
- 12:35WIIFM and not FU, people will notice that.
- 12:42And they're going to probably get sour after
- 12:44time because I'm not bringing value to others.
- 12:47I think that's a very important thing.
- 12:51But I know a lot of people out
- 12:52there probably say, you know, I'm just going
- 12:54to do what I have to do because
- 12:55that's just how it is.
- 12:57It's me first.
- 12:59I encourage you to be careful about that.
- 13:02Because if you live on that premise alone,
- 13:05you could miss some very priceless, valuable opportunities.
- 13:09There are good people out there, okay?
- 13:12Number 20, invest your time wisely.
- 13:14Time is one of the few resources you
- 13:17can never replace.
- 13:19Spend it intentionally on activities, people, and goals
- 13:22that bring lasting value instead of temporary distractions.
- 13:28And I think when we start to understand
- 13:30and make that connection in life, it's like,
- 13:32oh my gosh, now I finally understand what
- 13:34this is about.
- 13:35And I think that's something that a lot
- 13:37of people don't understand.
- 13:39They don't understand why something is a certain
- 13:41way.
- 13:42And a lot of times it's because somebody
- 13:44doesn't care enough to do the right thing.
- 13:47They're just about themselves, okay?
- 13:51And that can be hard.
- 13:57And that's a problem for a lot of
- 13:59people.
- 14:05And I think that's something a lot of
- 14:07people don't realize.
- 14:10They think if you just play and don't
- 14:14mean it, you can just get whatever you
- 14:17want, you know?
- 14:20You've got to give, then you can take.
- 14:23You can't just take all the time.
- 14:27Number 21, lead through service.
- 14:31I've known a lot of people on other
- 14:33podcasts.
- 14:34They have this rah, rah, rah, rah, rah.
- 14:37And they talk about service and servant leaders.
- 14:40And that's great, okay?
- 14:41But at the end of the day, it's
- 14:44not about roping somebody in to try to
- 14:46get them to pay you.
- 14:48It's not about telling people they've got to
- 14:51be in your circle.
- 14:52That's not true servant leadership.
- 14:55It's not about that.
- 14:57It's about you making a difference on the
- 14:59world by doing the right thing all the
- 15:02time.
- 15:03Now, these people may be very famous.
- 15:06They get to the top real quick.
- 15:08But really, they're doing a disservice to all
- 15:11of us.
- 15:13True leadership isn't about position or authority.
- 15:17You know what it's about?
- 15:18It's about helping others succeed.
- 15:20So when you help others succeed, and you
- 15:24do it without looking for a spotlight on
- 15:26you, it's okay if a spotlight gets put
- 15:28on you.
- 15:28But if you're only doing it for the
- 15:30spotlight, then that's not the reason, right?
- 15:34Removing obstacles and creating opportunities for those around
- 15:38you to grow is the key to success.
- 15:41But maybe like, oh, I just want to
- 15:42get in and get what I need.
- 15:45Yeah, get what you need, even if it
- 15:47hurts or harms other people, right?
- 15:50I think that's an important thing that many
- 15:54people, they just don't realize what that is
- 15:59or even what it's about, all right?
- 16:03But more people will recognize this in what
- 16:07they do, okay?
- 16:10They'll recognize it because they'll get a feeling
- 16:14that something is not 100% right.
- 16:18Ladies and gentlemen, number 22 is stay humble.
- 16:20I've said this before, but I can't say
- 16:21it enough.
- 16:22Humility keeps you teachable.
- 16:24No matter how much you've accomplished, there's always
- 16:28another lesson to learn and another way to
- 16:31improve it.
- 16:33Number 23, value people.
- 16:36Technology, money, and success all have their place.
- 16:40But people will always matter most, should treat
- 16:45everyone with dignity and respect and kindness, because
- 16:49every relationship has value, even if you haven't
- 16:53discovered it yet.
- 16:54You know, nobody wants to be an object.
- 16:56Nobody wants to be used.
- 16:58Nobody wants to think that they're in a
- 17:00friendship when they're just being manipulated.
- 17:03We've all been through that before, right?
- 17:06Number 24, focus on impact.
- 17:11Ask yourself one important question every day.
- 17:15You're probably wondering, what is that question?
- 17:17I'm going to tell you.
- 17:18Did I make someone's life better today?
- 17:22Creating meaningful impact is more valuable than simply
- 17:26staying busy.
- 17:28People think if they stay busy, that means
- 17:31that they're creating impact.
- 17:34Spoiler alert, it doesn't.
- 17:37But many people think it does.
- 17:40I think that's an important piece that many
- 17:43people, like, they just don't understand that.
- 17:46And that's important, right?
- 17:50And maybe you're going to say to me,
- 17:51John, you know, this is great.
- 17:53But I want to know, how do I
- 17:56make the world a better place?
- 18:04I think sometimes people just don't realize.
- 18:15They don't realize what's happening.
- 18:20And I say that to you because you'll
- 18:24do something because you think it's going to
- 18:27lead you down a pathway.
- 18:29And guess what?
- 18:30You discover after doing this for a while,
- 18:33it didn't get you down the pathway.
- 18:35It actually got you further away from what
- 18:38you wanted to do.
- 18:40Number 25, guys, keep improving.
- 18:44Personal growth never ends.
- 18:47Continue developing your skills, expanding your knowledge, and
- 18:52becoming someone who can contribute even more to
- 18:56others.
- 18:59Do you ever ask yourself, how can I
- 19:00help others in this world?
- 19:03Is it a donation of time?
- 19:04Is it a donation of money?
- 19:08A donation of knowledge?
- 19:11Okay, I think that's important, guys.
- 19:22I think that's a very important thing to
- 19:25be aware of.
- 19:30Number 26, guys, success follows value.
- 19:36People often chase success directly, but lasting success
- 19:40usually follows those who consistently solve problems, serve
- 19:46others, and create meaningful value.
- 19:48They don't get up on a, let's say,
- 19:51a big stage or a podium and saying,
- 19:52hey, I'm here to create value.
- 19:57They do it every day in their life.
- 20:00Now, some people do get up on stages
- 20:02like myself, but we create value every day
- 20:04in our life.
- 20:04I think that's an important distinction, is that
- 20:08when you want to make someone else's life
- 20:11better, you're doing it because of your heart,
- 20:13not because of something someone's telling you.
- 20:22I think that can probably give people, let's
- 20:27say, an awkward feeling in them, knowing that
- 20:30they don't know which way to turn.
- 20:33Number 27, guys, leave people better.
- 20:37Whether someone spends five minutes or five years
- 20:42with you, please strive to leave them more
- 20:46encouraged, more informed, and more confident than before
- 20:51they met you.
- 20:55That's powerful, guys, but do you really do
- 21:00that?
- 21:06That's the question.
- 21:08You don't have to answer me.
- 21:10Answer yourself.
- 21:14Do you do that?
- 21:16If you don't, you might want to make
- 21:18the change, because what I found is that
- 21:20when you do a deal, Carnegie says, which
- 21:22is strive to become genuinely interested in other
- 21:24people, and first, don't forget to know their
- 21:26name properly.
- 21:26And if you don't know their name, no
- 21:29harm in saying, that's a beautiful name.
- 21:30How do I say it?
- 21:31I just did it the other day.
- 21:32I said, that's a beautiful name.
- 21:33I don't want to mess it up.
- 21:35And either they'll say, try, another person will
- 21:37say, oh, this is how you say it.
- 21:40But become genuinely interested in other people.
- 21:44Number 28, learn to build significance.
- 21:47Success is measured by what you accomplish.
- 21:52Significance is measured by the difference you make.
- 21:56Success, what you accomplish.
- 22:04Think about that just for a moment.
- 22:07Think about how that may resonate with you.
- 22:10Does it resonate with you?
- 22:13Success is measured by the difference, and significance
- 22:16is measured by the difference you make.
- 22:23Aim to build a life that matters long
- 22:26after your achievements are forgotten.
- 22:29Number 29, and this is a big one,
- 22:34influence with integrity.
- 22:36Now, you might influence with other ways, but
- 22:38guess what's going to happen?
- 22:39You're going to find that you are not
- 22:43actually having the impact that long.
- 22:50That's important to know.
- 22:57I think that's another important thing for us
- 22:59to understand.
- 23:02Okay, that's a very important thing to definitely
- 23:07understand.
- 23:09All right, influence with integrity.
- 23:12Don't manipulate people.
- 23:13People may remember your accomplishments, but they'll always
- 23:20remember your character.
- 23:24Let honesty, compassion, and integrity guide every decision
- 23:28and move you make.
- 23:30What did I say?
- 23:32Success can measure accomplishments.
- 23:37Significance can measure the difference you make in
- 23:41others.
- 23:42Number 30, great lives create value.
- 23:47At the end of the day, folks, a
- 23:49meaningful life isn't measured by what you collected.
- 23:53It's measured by what you contributed, every act
- 23:57of kindness, every problem you solve, every person
- 24:00you encourage, and every opportunity you create becomes
- 24:05a part of the legacy you leave behind
- 24:07you.
- 24:09In closing today, creating value isn't something you
- 24:13do once in a while.
- 24:15It's a mindset you choose every day, every
- 24:19conversation, every decision, and every opportunity gives you
- 24:24the chance to encourage someone, solve a problem,
- 24:28build trust, or make life a little better
- 24:32for another person.
- 24:36Do we think about other people often or
- 24:39are we thinking about just ourselves?
- 24:52I think that's an important thing to understand.
- 25:09I think that's important to know.
- 25:14As you continue building a life that truly
- 25:19matters to you and others, remember this, that
- 25:22your greatest contribution may never make headlines, but
- 25:27it can transform the life of someone who
- 25:32needed your encouragement, your knowledge, or your kindness.
- 25:41Please keep learning.
- 25:44Please keep serving.
- 25:46Please keep growing.
- 25:48And never, never, never, never, never, never, never
- 25:51underestimate the difference one person can make.
- 26:01I think that's something that we just need
- 26:02to pause for a moment and reflect on.
- 26:06I think when we can understand how life
- 26:09has changed for us or how we made
- 26:11someone else's life just a little better because
- 26:14of something we did for them, I think
- 26:16that's really cool.
- 26:19I think that's really, really cool to understand.
- 26:27Very, very important to note that.
- 26:31Very important.
- 26:33And maybe you may not get aligned with
- 26:37this day one, but you may come back
- 26:39and say, you know what?
- 26:40Now I know what John was saying.
- 26:41I didn't know before, but now I know
- 26:43what he's saying.
- 26:48Now I know what he's saying.
- 26:49And I know where this can go.
- 26:58That's important, guys.
- 27:06I think sometimes we get stuck on a
- 27:11pathway because that's the only thing we know.
