- 0:04Let's come together now to the Book of Revelation in chapter 5
- 0:10and place your finger there. Verse 6, Revelation chapter 5,
- 0:16and verse 6. For the third time in Revelation
- 0:24chapter 5, John is going to tell us that he saw something.
- 0:32The first instance was in verse one when he reports that he saw
- 0:38a scroll in the right hand of God.
- 0:43The second occasion is in verse 2 when he says that he saw a
- 0:47mighty Angel proclaiming with a loud voice who is worthy to open
- 0:52the scroll and break its seals. And for the third time, he will
- 0:59say that he saw something, or more specifically, someone.
- 1:05And that is going to be the verse of our focus today.
- 1:10It's found in verse 6, but we'll read verse 6 and verse 7.
- 1:16And between the throne and the four living creatures, and among
- 1:19the elders, I saw a lamb standing as though it had been
- 1:27slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven
- 1:32spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.
- 1:36And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who
- 1:39was seated on the throne. Father, I gladly confess that I
- 1:48need you. We need you.
- 1:54And we think of the words of the apostle Paul, who said to the
- 1:57Corinthians that he did not come preaching to them in human
- 2:02wisdom or with eloquence. He did not come with plausible
- 2:06words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power at
- 2:12the faith of his hearers would not rest in the wisdom of man,
- 2:14but in the power of God. Lord, you must speak today.
- 2:21You must be heard, and we just ask that through every weakness
- 2:29Your glory would shine. What a great task it is to speak
- 2:35about the Lamb of God, and so, by the help of your Holy Spirit,
- 2:40may be faithfully done in a way where Christ will be more real
- 2:45to each of us than anything else in this life.
- 2:49We need you, Lord. We ask for your help now.
- 2:53In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 2:57You know, there's a reason why we didn't continue reading
- 2:59further in this chapter. I thought initially we were
- 3:03going to finish this chapter today, but then I realized that
- 3:06what you find in verse 6 is just too glorious.
- 3:11The details about the Lamb of God are just so fascinating to
- 3:17just simply gloss over everything that you and I will
- 3:22find beyond verse 7 will be the adoring response of the entire
- 3:27universe to this pivotal moment in this heavenly vision.
- 3:32And we will look at those verses in the coming weeks because they
- 3:35have much to tell us about the kind of worship that Jesus
- 3:39Christ deserves. But today we're going to do 1
- 3:43simple thing. We're just going to behold
- 3:46Christ because this is who John is seeing in this vision, Jesus
- 3:52Christ. And though the wonder and the
- 3:56splendor of Jesus are infinite, we've been granted in this brief
- 4:03passage at least four amazing, remarkable attributes concerning
- 4:09his nature. You and I are are going to leave
- 4:12here with at least four strong reminders of who we just sang
- 4:17to, who we trust in, who we believe that we are going to see
- 4:20one day. Today, we're just going to
- 4:24behold Christ. And that is no small thing.
- 4:30People need Jesus. You know, it was Philip who went
- 4:37down to Samaria in Acts 8 verse five, and one of the most
- 4:41amazing revivals breaks out in Samaria.
- 4:44But in that verse, you know what we're told?
- 4:46He went down to Samaria and preached to them the Christ
- 4:53Jesus, simply Jesus. I believe in this day and age,
- 5:01we need to recover the simple preaching of Christ because that
- 5:07message alone can do miracles in people's lives.
- 5:11And it's not just for unbelievers.
- 5:13Oh, we need to know more about Jesus.
- 5:16And so in verse 6 alone, there are four things that should move
- 5:22us. And the first thing that I want
- 5:25us to consider about the Lamb is his humility.
- 5:31Did you pick up on the meekness of Christ in what we just read?
- 5:35Now remember, before this John the Apostle was weeping because
- 5:40no one was found worthy to open this scroll, the scroll that
- 5:43held the end times program for the earth.
- 5:49And an elder said, John, weep no more.
- 5:52There is one found who is worthy, but he describes him in
- 5:56a very particular way. He is the lion of the tribe of
- 5:59Judah, the root of David. Now here's the thing, if I'm
- 6:04told to behold a lion, what would you expect to see?
- 6:11A lion. It's not complicated, A lion
- 6:16like figure. But after John dries his eyes
- 6:21and looks more closely at what he was called to to see, he
- 6:26doesn't find a lion, he finds a lamb.
- 6:31Now that's strange to me because hopefully you remember last week
- 6:36we confirmed that this identity of Christ as the Lion of the
- 6:40tribe of Judah is exclusively found and introduced in the Book
- 6:44of Revelation. Why?
- 6:46Because it perfectly correlates with His mission at the Second
- 6:49Coming. He is coming with kingly
- 6:52authority. He is coming to take over.
- 6:56So then why is that label so short lived?
- 7:02The moment that we are told about the Lion, we come back to
- 7:06a familiar image of the Lamb. Well, evidently as much as the
- 7:11Holy Spirit in the Book of Revelation wants us to
- 7:14anticipate the soon coming Lion, He also never wants us to forget
- 7:21that He is the Lamb. So much so that the title Lamb
- 7:28appears a total of 28 times in the Book of Revelation. 28
- 7:35times. You would think that the lion
- 7:39label would be emphasized, but no, it's the Lamb.
- 7:45To be always reminded about the Lamb.
- 7:49You would think again that there would be more to say.
- 7:52Why come back to that? Because as we move through the
- 7:55Book of Revelation and we witnessed the victories, the
- 7:58triumphs, and the final redemption unfolding in the
- 8:02final lap of human history, it's as though God the Holy Spirit
- 8:07wants to continually remind us that all of that is only made
- 8:12possible because of Christ's sacrifice.
- 8:17His triumph ultimately came because of his sacrifice.
- 8:23That's the message of this manifestation.
- 8:26Our Lord already won the victory, and He did so through
- 8:31His selfless love. He did so by laying down his
- 8:34life. He did so by becoming the
- 8:36Passover lamb. That's what John was supposed to
- 8:40see, and that's what he is translating to us now.
- 8:43Hopefully we understand that God being described as a lion is not
- 8:49totally new. It's actually found in the Old
- 8:52Testament on more than one occasion.
- 8:54You don't have to turn to these references, just listen
- 8:56carefully in Hosea 11/10 we read in Hosea 11/10 they shall go
- 9:02after the Lord. He will roar like a lion when he
- 9:08roars, his children shall come trembling from the West.
- 9:13And Amos chapter 3 verse 8 the lion has roared, who will not
- 9:19fear the Lord? God has spoken who can but
- 9:23prophecy. So the people of God are
- 9:28familiar with the imagery of God being like a lion.
- 9:31But here's what's so startling that God who describes himself
- 9:36in this way, depicting his ultimate authority, his ultimate
- 9:40power, his ultimate dominion, but one day in human history
- 9:44enter into this world and take on the role of a lamb with all
- 9:49vulnerability, with all gentleness.
- 9:54What a striking concept that these Hebrews and these people
- 9:59who were set apart by covenant with God, who understood there
- 10:02got to be this roaring lion, this mighty beast, would also
- 10:08visit them and become a lamb. And you think about that, and
- 10:16you realize that the Gospel show us just that, how this lion of a
- 10:22God willingly subjected himself to the handling of rotten,
- 10:29wicked men who thought that they can do as they please with him.
- 10:37So they arrest him, they blasphemy him, they slap him,
- 10:45they spit on him, they pull them wherever they think that they
- 10:50can drag him, they slash him, they pound on him, and
- 10:58eventually they crucify him. All the while he chooses to be
- 11:05like a lamb led to the slaughter, and like sheep before
- 11:09its shears remain silent. How?
- 11:16Why? To save rotten, wicked men and
- 11:22sinners, sinners like us forever and ever.
- 11:29It was through his humility is through his lowliness is through
- 11:34his surrender that he ultimately conquered.
- 11:41So you see, John learned through this vision that the humility of
- 11:44Christ would never and should never be forgotten.
- 11:47But more than that, it's going to be the humility of Christ
- 11:51that will be the impetus of our endless praise and glory.
- 11:58Yes, we're coming to the end of all things.
- 12:00We want to see the King. We want to see the lion.
- 12:04But early in the Book of Revelation, we are reminded,
- 12:07don't forget that he is the Lamb.
- 12:09And don't forget that all these things that will transpire, all
- 12:13these awesome acts of sovereign power, ultimately flow from a
- 12:18humble Savior who succeeded 2000 years ago and made everything
- 12:23that you and I will enjoy possible.
- 12:26The humility of Jesus Christ, which leads us to our second
- 12:31glorious characteristic of Christ found here, and that is
- 12:34His preeminence. So we looked at his humility,
- 12:36but look at his preeminence. Come back to verse 6.
- 12:38And between the throne and the four living creatures and among
- 12:41the elders, I saw a lamb standing.
- 12:45Listen, the description of Christ's location is not void of
- 12:48purpose. It's intentional.
- 12:51The sense that you get from this one detail is that Christ seems
- 12:55to be emerging as the centerpiece of God's throne
- 12:58room. The spotlight now is falling on
- 13:01him, and we know this very well. But in case someone is not
- 13:06aware, Jesus Christ is and will be the object of our eternal
- 13:12praise, and we're being prepared for that by this vision.
- 13:16Here Christ is going to be the theme of heaven.
- 13:22It was a Puritan who once wrote Take away Christ and what heaven
- 13:28is but a blessed prison, a palace of silence and emptiness.
- 13:36I am no Puritan, but I will add to that.
- 13:40Take away Christ and heaven will be dark.
- 13:46Take away Christ and heaven will become cold.
- 13:52Take away Christ and heaven will be utterly lifeless.
- 14:00And if you think that's an exaggeration, I base that case
- 14:06from a realization of Scripture itself.
- 14:09Let me give you an example. We're in Revelation 5.
- 14:11Go to Revelation 21 and here you have a chapter that describes
- 14:15the new heaven and the new earth that will follow the final
- 14:18judgement. And notice what is said here in
- 14:22this one verse of Revelation 21 verse 23.
- 14:29And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the
- 14:33glory of God gives its light, and its lamp is what the lamp.
- 14:41So just as a lamp is the instrument that holds and gives
- 14:45off light, Christ is the chosen vessel to contain and radiate
- 14:52the glory of God in the new heaven and the new earth, right?
- 14:56Isn't that what a lamp does? It holds light, it illumines.
- 15:02Christ the Lamb will be the lamp as he shines forth perfectly the
- 15:07glory of God. And just as the sun is essential
- 15:11for sustaining habitation and survival on our planet, Christ
- 15:17will be the central source of life and light in the world to
- 15:21come. So much so that in this new
- 15:24world you won't need the sun. SUN, because we have the sun,
- 15:28SON, and just as this world as we know it would be stripped of
- 15:36life if you took away the sun for a moment, take away Christ
- 15:42and you strip heaven of its glory.
- 15:46He is preeminent, He is central, He's the heartbeat of eternity.
- 15:57Do you believe that Christ is truly that prominent, that
- 16:01important in the world to come? Oh, it's quite possible that
- 16:07future listeners who see this and hear this will think, yeah,
- 16:09the Lord Jesus at best is like an exalted creature, the most
- 16:13exalted creature. Or perhaps he is an important
- 16:18part of God's redemptive plan, surely.
- 16:22But to say that he is the preeminent one of heaven, the
- 16:28object of every creatures love and honor.
- 16:34Let me ask you this. Have you considered how he
- 16:37differs in this text that we're reading the the the only verse
- 16:41that we're looking at today, and how he compares to the other
- 16:46participants and the actors of this heavenly vision in their
- 16:50response to the throne. In other words, if you just
- 16:54scale back and you look at how the four living creatures react
- 16:58to the sight and the sounds of God's throne, and then follow
- 17:02that up with the 24 elders and then compare it with Christ, you
- 17:07can't help but see that He's different.
- 17:11Let me show you. Go to Revelation 4 and look here
- 17:13at verse 9 quickly. Remember, Revelation 4 and 5 is
- 17:18the same vision. But notice what I said here.
- 17:22And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor
- 17:26and thanks to Him who is seated on the throne, what do they do?
- 17:31They worship. They pour out their praise.
- 17:35They break out in song. What do you find in the next
- 17:38verse? In verse 10, the 24 elders fall
- 17:41down before him who is seated on the throne and worship Him who
- 17:47lives forever and ever, and rightfully so.
- 17:53But then now as John's gaze is fixed on this Lamb, he realizes
- 18:00that there is a different posture that he possesses, and
- 18:03it is incredible. What does the Lamb do?
- 18:07Look back at Revelation 5, verse 7.
- 18:10We read it together, the beginning of the message.
- 18:12And He, that's the Lamb. And he went and took the scroll
- 18:17from the right hand of him who is seated on the throne.
- 18:25With incomparable dignity, majesty, and prominence, Christ
- 18:34advances toward the throne of the Father.
- 18:39Without explanation, without making a plea, without asking
- 18:46permission. He reaches out and he grabs the
- 18:51scroll in the hand of the Ancient of Days and takes it
- 18:58unto himself. Who is this King of glory?
- 19:05Who is this lamb? Why is he not siding with the
- 19:10four living creatures and joining them in worship?
- 19:15Why does he not join the 24 elders and fall down on his
- 19:18face? I'll tell you why, because
- 19:22whoever this Lamb is is worthy of worship.
- 19:28He is the object of adoration. He is the one who shares in
- 19:33essence with the Father, the Son of God himself, who approaches
- 19:39the throne of the Father with such strength and boldness
- 19:47because it's His right. And the Father doesn't reprimand
- 19:52him. The Father doesn't stop him.
- 19:58The Father gladly let's go of his grip and gives him that
- 20:05scroll. Jesus the preeminent 1.
- 20:12He is the center of heaven. And listen, if he's the center
- 20:16of heaven, then he is worthy to be preeminent in your life and
- 20:19mine. If He is the preeminent one in
- 20:23glory, then He must be the exalted one in the Church.
- 20:29And here's what I take from this.
- 20:31If Christ is who He is in that world, if we make him #1 listen
- 20:39carefully if He is #1 in your life, if He is number one in
- 20:43this ministry, then we will get a taste of heaven on earth.
- 20:47Only then. You put Him in any other place.
- 20:51You put Him in the background, You put Him to the side.
- 20:54If He's the piece of the pie in your life, it's never going to
- 20:57work. He's everything He must be.
- 21:03He's incomparable. He has no rival.
- 21:06He stands alone. He's in His own category.
- 21:09And until you and I arrive to that conviction, you will never
- 21:13know the fragrance of heaven in your life.
- 21:16We will never know the presence of God in our meetings.
- 21:21Heaven shows us where Christ belongs, and in your heart it
- 21:27must be the same. Crown him, Lord of all.
- 21:32Crown him, King of kings, Crown him with your greatest
- 21:36affection. Crown him with all that is
- 21:38within you. He must be crowned as the
- 21:41preeminent 1 for the four living creatures and 24 elders in the
- 21:46myriad of angels Do so gladly. How dare we not do the same?
- 21:52We who have experienced redemption, we who have known
- 21:56grace, we who have been washed in His blood, do we dare put Him
- 22:00in any other place in this life? No, that would be the crime of
- 22:07all crimes. Such indifference to me is utter
- 22:12blasphemy. Such a thought should be enough
- 22:17fuel for you to break out of lukewarmness, to never be
- 22:23content with Christ not being all consuming in your life.
- 22:33He's in the middle of everything.
- 22:38But we come now to the Third Point, and in my opinion, this
- 22:42is the pinnacle of everything. What we find here can surely
- 22:50bring us to this, to our knees, and end this service early.
- 22:55It's a sacrifice. We looked at his humility, we
- 22:58considered his preeminence. But thirdly, we consider now his
- 23:01sacrifice. Look back again at verse 6 and
- 23:04between the throne and the four living creatures, and among the
- 23:07elders, I saw a lamb. Wait, you were told about a
- 23:09lion? Yeah, but I see a lamb.
- 23:11Why? It's a megaphone about Christ's
- 23:14humility. And I through his humility, he
- 23:17has brought victory. And where is he standing?
- 23:21In between the throne, the four living creatures, among the
- 23:24elders. He's the centerpiece of heaven.
- 23:30But thirdly, he's not just standing.
- 23:32John looks closer. And look at the last part here,
- 23:35or the second part at least, as though it had been slain.
- 23:41What a fascinating feature of this vision we have here,
- 23:47something that is familiar to us, I'm sure, that Jesus Christ
- 23:512000 years ago, he satisfied his duty and his role as the Lamb of
- 23:55God who takes away the sins of the world.
- 23:58That was accomplished 2000 years ago.
- 24:02But what is he doing in heaven, bearing the marks of sacrifice
- 24:08and wounds and death itself? Wasn't that done away with?
- 24:15Wasn't that accomplished? Aren't we moving on now?
- 24:20Aren't we supposed to see something else Instead?
- 24:24What we find here is a vision, a symbolic depiction of Christ,
- 24:29like a lamb who is freshly slaughtered and placed on the
- 24:32altar. Here's why.
- 24:39Because the death of Christ was not only performed on earth, it
- 24:43is still being remembered and represented before the judgement
- 24:47seat of the Father. Here's what I want to say with
- 24:51this What Jesus Christ did on the cross is not a fading memory
- 24:57in the mind of God. We find it here as vivid as an
- 25:03ever present reality in His sight.
- 25:06Do you see this Christ sacrifice is there, it's clear, it's real,
- 25:15it's ever present. And this vision, this part of
- 25:21the vision at least is for your confidence in mine.
- 25:24It has to be because it testifies that even after
- 25:28thousands of years, what Jesus Christ has done in that single
- 25:33sacrifice on Calvary is still relevant and hasn't lost an
- 25:38ounce of power. He's still presented before the
- 25:43Father as a slain Lamb. In case that truth is not clear,
- 25:53remember that the Lamb in this vision is what standing.
- 26:00It would make sense for a slain Lamb to be on its side, lying
- 26:05there, lifeless. But that's not what you find.
- 26:09You find a paradox, a slain Lamb standing.
- 26:14Why? Because yes, he did die 2000
- 26:17years ago. But he's alive.
- 26:19He's here. He's upright.
- 26:24I saw a Lamb standing. He's no longer dead, he is alive
- 26:29forevermore, and the efficacy of his sacrifice is still capable
- 26:35of giving life. The one who was slain, who is
- 26:40alive now, can and always give life.
- 26:45So here's what this means for the unbeliever who might be
- 26:47listening to this today. Listen carefully.
- 26:51You can today, at this very moment, with absolute
- 26:54confidence, cry out to God to save your soul, to be washed
- 26:59from every wrong that you've ever committed.
- 27:02And because of this slain Lamb before the throne of God, you
- 27:06can know salvation because what He has done is still relevant
- 27:12and it's still applicable. It could be known and it could
- 27:15be applied to you now. He is the living slain Lamb.
- 27:22The blood still flows, it's still accessible, it still can
- 27:27be applied. But here's what this also means
- 27:30for the believer. You and I have to rejoice in the
- 27:34supremacy of the new covenant. A slain lamb, that is.
- 27:41That is a common thing for an Israelite.
- 27:44They've seen many slain lambs and bulls and goats, but one
- 27:50slain lamb that is standing and remains there, never to be
- 27:56replaced. What a strange thing.
- 28:03If you need anything to give you energy to realize how you are
- 28:07privileged on this side of the cross, understand this, that you
- 28:10and I, when we sin and if we sin, don't have to fetch for a
- 28:14brand new animal and bring it before a temple.
- 28:17There is one lamb that is sufficient.
- 28:20There is one lamb that we can appeal to.
- 28:23There is One who was slain and is forever enough for anything
- 28:29and everything that we do that breaks God's law, breaks his
- 28:34heart. The Lamb who is before the
- 28:38throne will never, ever lose its power.
- 28:44And that power for you, Christian, is able to sustain
- 28:47you until the end. It's a fountain of forgiveness
- 28:51that never runs dry. It's something that you and I
- 28:56can continually bring our dirty feet to and be washed in.
- 29:01How great is this sacrifice? How much does it outshine even
- 29:08Solomon's temple with all its beauty and splendor?
- 29:13So next time you read the Old Testament and you read about the
- 29:16hundreds of thousands of things that were slain and slaughtered
- 29:22in order for their sins just to be covered for a moment, let
- 29:26your heart leap with joy as you remember this one slain Lamb who
- 29:31is eternally sufficient for you and I.
- 29:37Just one sacrifice no more. And here's what this means for
- 29:43our study in Revelation. There is only one who can save
- 29:48people from the terrible events that are described in that
- 29:51scroll. Remember what's in the scroll?
- 29:56Pretty much what we find in Revelation 6 onward.
- 30:00And just as Israel was spared from calamity sweeping over
- 30:06Egypt because they would take that Passover lamb and apply its
- 30:11blood on their doorpost, so applying the blood of this lamb
- 30:17can save you and I from the horrors and the judgments and
- 30:22the eternal consequences that this book promises will come to
- 30:26pass. What a glorious thought.
- 30:32Here you have the lamb who is going to take this scroll.
- 30:36And this Lamb is the only one who can save us from what's
- 30:40going to happen when that scroll is broken.
- 30:46His sacrifice, a slain Lamb standing.
- 30:54We finally come to the last point, and that is his power.
- 31:04Notice what I said after we are told that he saw a Lamb standing
- 31:09as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven
- 31:14eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all
- 31:19the earth. Now, if you thought a slain Lamb
- 31:22standing was strange, it only gets a little bit more cryptic.
- 31:30I've never seen, I've seen a lamb being slain, a real lamb
- 31:34being slain. I've never seen it standing
- 31:37after it had its throat cut. And I also have never seen a
- 31:43lane with 7 horns and seven eyes.
- 31:46Have you? That would be concerning.
- 31:50But remember, this is symbolic. This is not meant to be literal.
- 31:54This is meant to convey an important message.
- 31:57And again, John expects his readers to be students of the
- 32:00Old Testament. And if you've read through the
- 32:03Hebrew Scriptures, then you know that all over the place is a
- 32:08horn, a symbol of strength and power and kingly authority.
- 32:15You find it in the Psalms, you find it in the law, you find it
- 32:18in prophecy. The horn is a symbol of
- 32:22strength. And so for the Lamb to have 7
- 32:26horns means what? That he has absolute and total
- 32:31power? That he is incomparable in his
- 32:36strength? That He is in fact omnipotent.
- 32:40The Lamb is all powerful. OK, but what about the eyes?
- 32:47Seven eyes? Once again you have another Old
- 32:51Testament illusion. There is one place in the Old
- 32:54Testament where we're told about the seven eyes of the Lord.
- 32:57And in that verse you have the meaning of it.
- 33:01So here's a reference to put in the margin in Zechariah 410.
- 33:06Notice what the prophet saw and was told in Zechariah 410 For
- 33:11whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and
- 33:15shall see the Plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.
- 33:18These seven are the eyes of the Lord, which range through the
- 33:22whole earth. So earlier in a vision Zechariah
- 33:28saw these seven eyes and God gives them the meaning of it.
- 33:31They represent the all seeing, surveying eyes of God throughout
- 33:34the whole earth. And that same description is now
- 33:38applied to who? Jesus.
- 33:42That Jesus possesses complete knowledge and discernment.
- 33:46He is aware of absolutely everything.
- 33:50So not only is he omnipotent, he's omniscient.
- 33:55And the way he exercises his omniscience is through the
- 33:59agency of the Holy Spirit. That's why we're told here back
- 34:02in Revelation 5-6, the seven eyes, which are the seven
- 34:05spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
- 34:10So we see something here, the unison of the Holy Spirit and
- 34:13Christ, that the try unity of God at work here, the
- 34:17omniscience of Christ exercised through the agency of the Holy
- 34:22Spirit. Why are we being told this?
- 34:27Why are we being told that Jesus is all powerful and he's all
- 34:31knowing? 2 reasons and this is where
- 34:33we're ending. You connect those truths with
- 34:37the fact that He is the Lamb of God, the pleasing sacrifice
- 34:42before the Father, and you understand this.
- 34:46Christ is capable of saving anyone from anywhere.
- 34:54There is no sin too great, and if you have not been paying
- 34:56attention to this message, this is something that you need to
- 34:59lean into, especially if you are in bondage.
- 35:04There is no sin too great. There is no place too dark or
- 35:09far where Christ's power cannot reach and deliver from.
- 35:18And I can testify that truth in my own life as a 20 year old
- 35:21college student in a basement apartment.
- 35:26No preacher, no talented music band, no human appeal.
- 35:35Where it all turned around for me was in a long weekend with an
- 35:39open Bible and the manifest presence of God in that room.
- 35:47And so real was that encounter with the truth of Jesus Christ
- 35:50and His love for me that I can say with absolute confidence
- 35:56that the shackles of sin have been broken and left in that
- 35:59basement apartment. He reached for me because He
- 36:07knew where I was and He knew what I needed.
- 36:13And this Lamb of God knows where you are and possesses the power
- 36:18that you desperately need. He can set you free.
- 36:25A lamb. Oh yeah, but he has seven horns.
- 36:30Here's one reference to perhaps persuade you that this is indeed
- 36:34one of the meanings of this vision in Numbers 23, verse 22.
- 36:38Don't turn there, just listen. And numbers 2322 it says God
- 36:45brings them out of Egypt and is for them like the horns of a
- 36:51wild ox. Do you see it?
- 36:56Israel's redemption is being revisited and the Lord says I
- 37:01brought them out of Egypt. What's Egypt?
- 37:03The picture of the world? Bondage, slavery, misery, and
- 37:12God, like a horn of a wild ox, powerfully drove them into
- 37:18liberty. I want to tell you today that
- 37:23the horns of the Lamb of God can drive you out of slavery, of
- 37:29shackles, of bondage, of heaviness of heart.
- 37:36You have to call upon Him. He is able to save to the
- 37:39uttermost those who draw near to God in Him to the uttermost.
- 37:46That's the good news of this part of the vision.
- 37:49But here's the sobering truth. Jesus Christ holds the power to
- 37:53execute the cycles of wrath inscribed on that scroll, and He
- 38:00will do so perfectly. He will do so in perfect
- 38:04justice. So this vision, I argue,
- 38:11corrects a common misconception about Jesus, the idea that
- 38:16Christ, oh, he's a lamb, right? So he's gentle and he's tolerant
- 38:21and he's laid back. You know, he's just going to let
- 38:25the world go as it is and everybody's going to be OK in
- 38:28the end. He is a lamb.
- 38:33Praise God, He's gentle, meek, and mild.
- 38:37But remember that this Lamb has seven horns and he has seven
- 38:41eyes. He is going to execute judgement
- 38:48one day. Can I show you one of the most
- 38:53paradoxical things in the Book of Revelation?
- 38:57It still has to do with the Lamb, but notice his
- 38:59description. This kept me up a little bit at
- 39:00night. I was trying to figure it out.
- 39:02I'm not sure if I have fully yet.
- 39:05Revelation chapter 6. This is when the seals are
- 39:09broken open and you come to the final seal and look at verse 16
- 39:15of chapter 6. Then the kings of the earth, and
- 39:22the great ones, and the generals and the rich and the powerful,
- 39:24and everyone slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and
- 39:28among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the
- 39:31mountains and rocks fall on us and hide us from the face of him
- 39:35who was seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the lion,
- 39:38lion, lion, the wrath of the Lamb.
- 39:46For that, for the great day of their wrath has come.
- 39:50Who can stand wrath of the Lamb? I've never seen an angry lamb,
- 39:56have you? I've seen an angry lion.
- 40:01On TV, thankfully, an angry lamb, the wrath of the Lamb.
- 40:12There seems to be a distance between the words wrath and
- 40:14lamb. How does that work?
- 40:19Is it not a shocking wake up call that the same Lamb who is
- 40:24willing to forgive any sin, who possesses the power to wash away
- 40:30any iniquity, is also the one who is going to judge every sin
- 40:37and hold everyone accountable? It's as though if you don't
- 40:41accept the blood of the Lamb, then here's the wrath of the
- 40:44Lamb. That's really the decision of
- 40:48all decisions is enough. You can't argue that Jesus
- 40:53Christ of Nazareth died and was buried, and we Christians
- 40:59believe that he rose. What do you do with that
- 41:02historical truth? What do you do with that
- 41:07knowledge? What do you do with the Lamb?
- 41:14Do you apply his blood by faith? Or do you join the terror of
- 41:20kings and governors and generals, the rich, powerful,
- 41:24everyone, slave and free, who will when they hide themselves
- 41:28from the Lamb? His power.
- 41:34He is powerful enough to save anyone, and he is powerful
- 41:38enough to judge everyone. I saw Lamb standing as though it
- 41:48had been slain. Where is Christ in your life?
- 41:54Has He over the past few months been pushed to the background,
- 41:59the back seat? Have you lost faith that He is
- 42:05able to actually set you free from a besetting sin, Maybe a
- 42:08sin that has latched onto your life as of late?
- 42:16Let's pray, we ask Lord, that the Lamb of God would be loved
- 42:35by His people and would be believed on by those who might
- 42:40be hearing this message and don't really know Him as they
- 42:47should. Amaze us again with Christ.
- 42:58We believe that will heal us from so much.
- 43:02Everything that we said in these past few minutes.
- 43:08We pray you would make so real to every heart in this place.
- 43:14We've now come to worship together with these truths in
- 43:17our hearts. In Jesus name we pray.
- 43:20Amen. As the praise team comes up, I
- 43:28want you to know what Jesus Christ has done for you.
- 43:29If you don't believe on him, if you don't know him in a saving
- 43:32way, He died for you. He shed his blood for you and He
- 43:40wants you to be saved. If you have never put your faith
- 43:45and trust in Jesus, if you've never really confessed them as
- 43:48Lord, I ask you today to realize that this, this vision that
- 43:53we've been studying, though very rich in symbolism, speaks of a
- 43:57truth, speaks of a reality that is ongoing.
- 44:02Christ can see you, Christ can hear you, and Christ at this
- 44:08very moment can rush upon you and transform you, and you will
- 44:19know it without, without a doubt.
- 44:22And believer, if if what you've heard today has become dull to
- 44:25you, ask Him to open your eyes and and ask him to be able to
- 44:34respond to the truth that we find here in the same way that
- 44:38those perfect creatures in heaven can't stop doing loving
- 44:43Him and pouring out your praise to Him.
- 44:46He is faithful to help us. Let's sing to Him.
