- 0:00KT: Hey everybody, KT here in the house. Today is Super
- 0:03KT: Bowl Sunday and before school starts with Suze, make sure
- 0:08KT: you listen to the whole podcast because at the end,
- 0:12KT: she's got a touchdown surprise for all of you. Enjoy
- 0:16KT: the podcast. Bye-bye.
- 0:26Suze: February 8, 2026. Welcome everybody to the Women and Money podcast,
- 0:32Suze: and Everybody Smart Enough to Listen. Suze O here and
- 0:36Suze: today is a Super Suze school. So get out your notebooks, pen, paper, pencil,
- 0:45Suze: whatever you do, cause maybe you want to write things down,
- 0:48Suze: maybe you don't, but it's always nice in case I
- 0:50Suze: say something,
- 0:52Suze: and you go, oh, I don't want to ever forget that.
- 0:55Suze: So then just write it down in your notebooks. All right,
- 1:01Suze: let's begin. Part of me wanted to call today's podcast,
- 1:08Suze: something that I've said to you over and over again.
- 1:11Suze: That the easiest thing in life is to forget.
- 1:17Suze: The hardest thing is to remember.
- 1:21Suze: And I wanted to go into great depth about what
- 1:25Suze: happened in 2022.
- 1:29Suze: We all were on the podcast then we went through
- 1:32Suze: a period in 2022 very, very similar to what we
- 1:38Suze: just recently went through with many of the technology stocks
- 1:43Suze: that imploded this past week or so.
- 1:47Suze: And I wanted to remind you, do you remember how
- 1:50Suze: many of those stocks were down 30%, 50%, 60%, and
- 1:55Suze: then they came roaring back a little bit later, and
- 1:58Suze: then they went to their all-time highs, and if you
- 2:01Suze: had just held on in 2022 like I begged you
- 2:04Suze: to do, you would have made so much money it's
- 2:08Suze: not even funny.
- 2:10Suze: But then what happened?
- 2:14Suze: Well, last week, actually, last Friday, in one simple day.
- 2:21Suze: The markets turned. Indexes moved higher. New highs were set,
- 2:27Suze: and suddenly the same assets that all of you were
- 2:31Suze: terrified of owning just a little bit ago, like a
- 2:36Suze: week or two.
- 2:38Suze: They were leading again.
- 2:40Suze: So, instead of just talking about what happened, I wanna
- 2:44Suze: talk about what 2022 hopefully taught you, and what Friday
- 2:53Suze: should have reminded you, and you should always remember the
- 2:57Suze: lessons that hopefully, these past three or four years, especially,
- 3:02Suze: have taught you, OK? So, let's just rewind for just
- 3:07Suze: a moment.
- 3:09Suze: In 2022, the biggest, the strongest technology companies in the
- 3:17Suze: world were crushed.
- 3:19Suze: Not speculative companies, they weren't startups, they were the best
- 3:24Suze: of the best, and we'll just look at the Magnificent
- 3:27Suze: Seven for a second there. What happened to them in 2022, OK?
- 3:35Suze: Apple fell more than 30%. Microsoft nearly 40%. Amazon literally
- 3:40Suze: was cut in half. Everybody. Google dropped over 40%. Nvidia
- 3:46Suze: collapsed more than 60%. Meta fell nearly 80%. Tesla dropped
- 3:53Suze: about 75%. Do all of you remember, and you can
- 3:57Suze: find it on one of the podcasts. Meta was at
- 4:00Suze: $90 a share.
- 4:03Suze: And when asked, KT said, Oh, I would buy Meta
- 4:06Suze: at 90.
- 4:08Suze: Look at the price now. I'll let you look it up.
- 4:12Suze: So people didn't just lose their money in 2022. What
- 4:17Suze: happened was they lost trust in the market and in themselves,
- 4:22Suze: and many of you, many of you wrote in to
- 4:25Suze: me and you said, Suze, Suze, I can't go through this.
- 4:29Suze: I just can't, and I urged you back in 2022,
- 4:34Suze: please don't do anything. It's gonna be OK, da da
- 4:37Suze: da da.
- 4:38Suze: And what's happening now, once again, you are writing me
- 4:43Suze: and saying, you gotta talk to me about these stocks.
- 4:46Suze: I'm down so dramatically, I can't stand it. I don't
- 4:49Suze: wanna go through any of this again.
- 4:52Suze: Those companies back then and the same companies, many of
- 4:57Suze: the technology companies today, those companies didn't lose their businesses.
- 5:03Suze: They didn't, and none of them are. They lost your
- 5:06Suze: patience that yes, they will come back. Yes, they're good companies, yes,
- 5:11Suze: there are reasons possibly that they're down.
- 5:15Suze: So it is your impatience for results,
- 5:20Suze: that keep you from having as much money as you
- 5:24Suze: are meant to have in the future. Patience is the
- 5:28Suze: key to building great wealth. You know, sometimes I think
- 5:33Suze: that the internet and AI and all these things now
- 5:38Suze: happen so rapidly, like I remember when I got the
- 5:41Suze: very first Apple computer, the 512K I think it was.
- 5:46Suze: You had to wait a few minutes before it started up.
- 5:49Suze: Then it had a little disk drive, and then you
- 5:51Suze: had to put the disk in. Then when you wanted
- 5:54Suze: to do something, you had to take it out and
- 5:56Suze: put it in again and take it out. It took
- 5:58Suze: forever to do something, but it seemed like it was
- 6:00Suze: a whole lot faster than doing it manually back then. Now,
- 6:05Suze: if your iPhone or your computers or whatever it is
- 6:08Suze: that you're using, if they don't start immediately, if there's
- 6:12Suze: any lag,
- 6:13Suze: You absolutely freak out. So we've become a society,
- 6:19Suze: of we don't have patience anymore for an answer or
- 6:23Suze: for something to be done and the lack of patience
- 6:27Suze: if you ask me.
- 6:29Suze: Your impatience is going to lead you to make serious
- 6:34Suze: financial mistakes. So if you fast forward from 2022, and listen,
- 6:41Suze: that wasn't that long ago. I am not talking about
- 6:45Suze: years and years ago, three years ago, four years ago, nothing,
- 6:50Suze: so if you just simply fast forward everybody, those companies
- 6:54Suze: didn't just recover.
- 6:57Suze: Many of them went on seriously to make new highs.
- 7:03Suze: Apple climbed back above prior levels. Microsoft surged to records.
- 7:08Suze: Amazon reclaimed ground people thought was gone forever. Google absolutely
- 7:13Suze: reasserted its dominance. Nvidia became the symbol really of the
- 7:17Suze: AI era, and Meta shocked nearly everyone with its comeback. So,
- 7:24Suze: I want you to ask yourself and answer this very honestly.
- 7:31Suze: If these companies were finished, they were over, as many
- 7:35Suze: of the pundits said. If they were really finished in 2022,
- 7:41Suze: why are they leading again now? Why?
- 7:46Suze: Because fear always sounds smartest at the bottom. Write that down.
- 7:56Suze: Do you know how many people in 2022 said, Suze,
- 8:01Suze: did you sell? And I said, no.
- 8:03Suze: And many of these people were on the island that
- 8:05Suze: we lived on, many very wealthy, and said, are you
- 8:09Suze: kidding me? We sold everything. They said, You're gonna lose
- 8:12Suze: your money. I said, No, that money is invested, and
- 8:16Suze: I don't need it for at least 10, 15 years.
- 8:20Suze: It's fine. I'm gonna let it be. And they said,
- 8:22Suze: All right, but it's not a smart move for you
- 8:26Suze: to stay in.
- 8:28Suze: That's because fear always sounds smartest at the bottom.
- 8:34Suze: A year or so later when I saw those same people,
- 8:36Suze: I said, oh, how are you doing now? They said,
- 8:39Suze: oh no, we're just waiting to get back in. It's
- 8:42Suze: all right, it'll come back down again.
- 8:44Suze: Because when you sell something,
- 8:48Suze: it is very difficult to buy it back, and when
- 8:52Suze: it starts to go up, and it's going up higher
- 8:56Suze: than what you sold at, it's very, very, like I said,
- 9:00Suze: difficult to buy then again when you already had owned it.
- 9:05Suze: So you wait and you wait until it comes back
- 9:09Suze: down again, and actually what happens, it never comes back
- 9:14Suze: down again.
- 9:15Suze: So what happened on Friday?
- 9:19Suze: Now, I could go in and I can talk to
- 9:22Suze: you very carefully about why I think it went down,
- 9:27Suze: what was going on, but I have to tell you,
- 9:30Suze: I don't even think that matters. Why doesn't necessarily matter
- 9:36Suze: at this point in time. What we saw happen on Friday,
- 9:43Suze: is in one day, people, one day, the Dow Jones
- 9:48Suze: Industrial Average closed out at the highest it has ever been.
- 9:54Suze: I want you to think about that.
- 9:57Suze: The Standard and Poor's 500 index, which many of you
- 10:01Suze: are invested in, is only 1% below its all-time high.
- 10:09Suze: And the NASDAQ, which holds most of the technology stocks
- 10:13Suze: and the things that really got clobbered, is only 2
- 10:17Suze: to 3% under its all-time high.
- 10:22Suze: So, many of you, if you look at the ETFs
- 10:26Suze: and the things that we said you should be diversified
- 10:29Suze: in besides individual stocks, overall, you're not doing that bad.
- 10:36Suze: So, here's what happens to most of you when you
- 10:41Suze: invest in the market, and especially in individual stocks. You
- 10:46Suze: have individual stocks, possibly, that have been skyrocketing, and skyrocketing,
- 10:51Suze: and going up and going up, and what you do
- 10:56Suze: is you take the price of what it's at, at
- 11:00Suze: the point that you're looking at it.
- 11:02Suze: How many shares you own and oh my God I'm
- 11:06Suze: worth this much money again I have told you time
- 11:09Suze: and time again until you have sold you have not
- 11:14Suze: made the money so let me just give you an
- 11:17Suze: example here OK.
- 11:20Suze: I bought a stock starting at $7 a share.
- 11:25Suze: And I bought a lot of it, and as it
- 11:27Suze: went up, I started to dollar cost average into the stock.
- 11:32Suze: And because I bought so many shares when in fact
- 11:35Suze: it was lower.
- 11:37Suze: My cost basis on the stock today is $35 a share.
- 11:43Suze: This stock went all the way up to $200 a
- 11:48Suze: share right around there. Now, let's just assume we're talking
- 11:52Suze: about 1,000 shares. Just let's assume that's true.
- 11:57Suze: So here, the normal person looks at it and goes,
- 12:00Suze: I have 1,000 shares.
- 12:03Suze: Oh, it's worth $200. I have $200,000 in this stock.
- 12:09Suze: And then all of a sudden this stock starts to
- 12:12Suze: go down and down and down.
- 12:17Suze: And now the stock is at $135 a share. So,
- 12:23Suze: in your head, you have lost $65,000. The difference between
- 12:32Suze: $200,000 what it was at, and $135,000 what it's at
- 12:37Suze: right now. So you've lost $65,000. No, you have not
- 12:43Suze: lost $65,000.
- 12:47Suze: Remember, your cost basis is $35 a share or $35,000.
- 12:57Suze: It's at $135,000 of actual value right now if you
- 13:02Suze: wanted to sell. You are still up $100,000. You are
- 13:08Suze: not down $65,000.
- 13:12Suze: You're down 65,000 in profit.
- 13:16Suze: But you're still up $100,000 in profit. So you have
- 13:21Suze: to look at that and decide, do you wanna sell it?
- 13:24Suze: Do you wanna keep it? What do you wanna do?
- 13:26Suze: But stop thinking
- 13:28Suze: that you're down so much money, cause all you do
- 13:32Suze: is look at what it's worth at the time that
- 13:35Suze: it's trading, you don't look at how much you have
- 13:39Suze: still made or you're still up. So, all of you
- 13:42Suze: should keep a little ledger of your cost basis in
- 13:47Suze: every stock and mutual fund or ETF so it gives
- 13:52Suze: you the perspective.
- 13:53Suze: Are you still up or have you actually lost money
- 13:57Suze: where it is below your cost basis? So I just
- 14:02Suze: want you to remember that now, thousands of you have
- 14:06Suze: written in to the Ask Suze podcast at gmail.com. That
- 14:10Suze: is the email to really write in.
- 14:14Suze: You say I'm so nervous. I don't know what to do.
- 14:16Suze: Please help, Suze. We're losing money. I want you to
- 14:19Suze: think about the example that I just gave you.
- 14:23Suze: If you've been listening to me, if you've been listening
- 14:26Suze: to Keith Fitz-Gerald, who, by the way, I have asked
- 14:29Suze: to come on next Sunday together, he said yes, so
- 14:33Suze: we will be doing a Suze school together.
- 14:38Suze: However, many of you are still so nervous.
- 14:43Suze: So, let's just go back, right, to the present of
- 14:46Suze: what just happened, because really Friday changed the emotional tone
- 14:53Suze: of everything. Markets moved higher, as I recently just said.
- 14:58Suze: Confidence returned. New highs were made, not because the world
- 15:04Suze: suddenly became perfect, everybody, but because markets moved ahead of
- 15:10Suze: the headlines, not behind them. What does that mean? It's
- 15:15Suze: the markets actually showed everybody was saying we're going to crash.
- 15:19Suze: It's over, whatever. The markets moved ahead of those headlines,
- 15:24Suze: and you started to feel better.
- 15:28Suze: But here's what that moment always triggers. It triggers relief.
- 15:34Suze: Don't you all feel relief at this moment in time.
- 15:39Suze: But very shortly it's going to be followed by uncertainty.
- 15:45Suze: Many of you felt better, but you also, as the
- 15:48Suze: markets go up and down again, you will again feel nervous,
- 15:54Suze: and that's where I want you to slow down this conversation.
- 15:59Suze: Because when markets move fast they go up, they go down,
- 16:04Suze: you're gonna make the same mistakes. You are going to
- 16:08Suze: start to once again think in all these extremes. You're
- 16:11Suze: either all in or all out. You risk everything or
- 16:14Suze: you hide everything, and none of that is a plan. Again,
- 16:20Suze: what are the rules of investing? The rules of investing
- 16:25Suze: are you do not invest in the stock market on
- 16:28Suze: any level.
- 16:29Suze: Unless this is money that you do not need for five, 10,
- 16:34Suze: or 15 years or longer. Now, there is an exception
- 16:38Suze: to that, if you are in dividend paying stocks that
- 16:43Suze: are solid, that have good cash flow, all of that.
- 16:49Suze: Then maybe you're better off than anywhere else, especially if
- 16:54Suze: interest rates start to come down, which I think they
- 16:58Suze: are absolutely going to do, especially because there's gonna be
- 17:02Suze: a new Fed chief, OK? And I would not be
- 17:06Suze: surprised if during this year, next year, you see at
- 17:08Suze: least
- 17:10Suze: three Fed decreases, and when that happens, interest rates for
- 17:15Suze: all of you start to come down even more. So
- 17:20Suze: dividend paying stocks that are also good quality stocks,
- 17:26Suze: might give you a higher return in the long run,
- 17:30Suze: but for the technology stocks, and all of those stocks,
- 17:34Suze: those are stocks that if you're investing in them, you
- 17:38Suze: do not need your money for at least five or
- 17:40Suze: 10 years or longer.
- 17:43Suze: As I just said a second ago about my belief
- 17:47Suze: that interest rates are going to come down.
- 17:50Suze: So, many of us have benefited from the fact that
- 17:54Suze: interest rates have been so high for so long, right?
- 18:00Suze: But what's going to happen when rates do start to
- 18:03Suze: come down?
- 18:06Suze: They will come down quietly, they will come down gradually,
- 18:09Suze: and that's why where you park your safe money right
- 18:14Suze: now matters, not your long term growth money, not your
- 18:18Suze: investing money, but your sleep at night money.
- 18:24Suze: Put a pin in that for a second because I
- 18:26Suze: want to tell you about a super announcement that I
- 18:30Suze: want to make right now.
- 18:32Suze: Many of you, and when I say many, I mean
- 18:35Suze: many of you are writing to me, and you're saying, Suzie,
- 18:39Suze: we have $100,000 we have $200,000 we have large amounts
- 18:44Suze: of money.
- 18:46Suze: That we don't know what to do with what should
- 18:50Suze: we do with it, Suze? Tell us.
- 18:53Suze: And when you don't know what to do with money,
- 18:58Suze: the best thing to do with it is actually keep
- 19:01Suze: it safe and sound until you know what to do
- 19:05Suze: with it.
- 19:06Suze: The problem is, I don't necessarily want you to put
- 19:10Suze: it into treasuries cause who knows if interest rates really
- 19:12Suze: are or not going to come down, because if you
- 19:15Suze: put it in there and you need it, I don't
- 19:18Suze: ever want you to have to take a loss on it.
- 19:21Suze: I want your money that you don't know what to
- 19:23Suze: do with right now, or you just want to keep
- 19:26Suze: it safe and sound. Why? Because these markets still make
- 19:29Suze: you nervous, or you've already invested enough in the market,
- 19:33Suze: and now you just want large sums of money, because
- 19:36Suze: many of you have large sums of money.
- 19:40Suze: That you just want safe at a good interest rate,
- 19:44Suze: an interest rate that will probably stay stable as can be,
- 19:47Suze: if it can.
- 19:49Suze: You can get at it anytime, you want it 100% insured,
- 19:54Suze: cause I don't know if many of you know that
- 19:56Suze: a lot of you have money in money market accounts
- 19:58Suze: and things like that, and they are not insured.
- 20:01Suze: You want to know at times like this, that your
- 20:05Suze: money is 100% either FDIC insured or NCUA insured by
- 20:12Suze: credit unions. You wanna know that it is insured.
- 20:16Suze: And so to that end.
- 20:20Suze: I started to talk to Alliant Credit Union.
- 20:24Suze: About what can be created just for these people with
- 20:30Suze: large amounts of money that they want safe, they want
- 20:34Suze: sound they want it insured and they want a good
- 20:38Suze: interest rate, not necessarily the top interest rate, because all
- 20:42Suze: of you have to remember when you have the absolute top.
- 20:45Suze: There's risk involved. There's all kinds of things that back
- 20:49Suze: those investments. You want your money somewhere where the portfolio
- 20:55Suze: backing your investment has really been thought about, is safe,
- 21:00Suze: is really not going for the highest rate, which I've
- 21:03Suze: told you I never go for the highest rate, I
- 21:06Suze: go for the safest rate.
- 21:08Suze: So this took a while to create, believe it or not,
- 21:13Suze: but Alliant Credit Union has put something together that I
- 21:18Suze: think will satisfy the majority of your needs, and they
- 21:24Suze: created what's called a jumbo savings account. This is not
- 21:29Suze: a certificate. This is not somewhere where you lock up money.
- 21:33Suze: It is a jumbo savings account.
- 21:37Suze: So what that means to all of you is that
- 21:40Suze: there are no lockups, no tying it up to get
- 21:42Suze: your money, your cash stays liquid and available, and it
- 21:47Suze: is NCUA insured up to $250,000. Now listen to me closely.
- 21:55Suze: The current rate is 3.35% APY.
- 22:02Suze: However, this is only available to those of you who
- 22:07Suze: deposit at least $100,000 or more and
- 22:13Suze: if you maintain an average daily balance of $100,000 for
- 22:18Suze: one year, at the end of the year you will
- 22:22Suze: get a $250 bonus. But here is the clincher. You
- 22:28Suze: have to open this account by March 31st of 2026.
- 22:36Suze: So this, believe it or not, is a rich offer,
- 22:39Suze: and they only want to offer that bonus 'till
- 22:43Suze: March 31st, 2026. So I know many of you right
- 22:48Suze: now have certificates that are coming due at Alliant or
- 22:53Suze: other places. I know there are many of you out
- 22:56Suze: there right now that have large sums of money sitting
- 23:00Suze: in bank accounts making what, 0.09% or something like that.
- 23:04Suze: There are many of you out there that this situation fits.
- 23:11Suze: Now, truthfully, I can tell you that just put in 100,000.
- 23:16Suze: That's fine, you don't have to put in more if
- 23:18Suze: you don't want, but it is insured up to 250,000
- 23:24Suze: from NCUA.
- 23:26Suze: All of a sudden, you wanna take the money out.
- 23:29Suze: You wanna say, oh, it's good, everything's OK, but now
- 23:32Suze: I wanna go back in the market, or, you know what,
- 23:34Suze: I wanna use this money for a down payment on
- 23:36Suze: a house, or whatever it is, this is a savings account,
- 23:40Suze: this is not a certificate. For those of you with
- 23:45Suze: lesser money,
- 23:47Suze: you still have the ultimate opportunity savings account that's paying 3%, 3.10%
- 23:53Suze: right in there. That's still a great rate for lower
- 23:57Suze: amounts of money. You also could do a six month
- 24:01Suze: certificate at Alliant. I think the rate is 3.9%, so
- 24:05Suze: you could do a combination of all of those things. Again,
- 24:10Suze: I do not make a penny if you do any
- 24:12Suze: of this. We're just trying
- 24:16Suze: to find a way for you to have money somewhere
- 24:20Suze: where I personally know it's safe and that I really
- 24:24Suze: believe that interest rate will hold a lot longer even
- 24:30Suze: when interest rates overall with the Fed start to go down. Now,
- 24:36Suze: one other thing that I want to announce. Many of
- 24:40Suze: you have said to me, Suze...
- 24:43Suze: I want to put my money in Alliant Credit Union,
- 24:46Suze: but I can't do it in a trust. Well, now
- 24:49Suze: you can, believe it or not. So, when you go
- 24:54Suze: to myalliant.com, M Y A L L I A N T.com.
- 25:03Suze: You will go and you will click on this. You
- 25:05Suze: will see a little telephone number that you can call
- 25:09Suze: in and now Alliant Credit Union has made it possible
- 25:13Suze: that you can hold your accounts in a living revocable trust.
- 25:19Suze: For those of you who for some reason you don't
- 25:22Suze: ever remember that you have to go to my alliant.com
- 25:26Suze: because this
- 25:27Suze: $250 bonus is available only to those of you listening
- 25:32Suze: right now to Suze customers and how do they know
- 25:36Suze: that you're a Suze customer? Because you come into them
- 25:40Suze: through myalliant.com. You don't go to the website that everybody
- 25:45Suze: else goes to.
- 25:47Suze: If you forget that, just go to Suze Orman.com, S
- 25:51Suze: U Z E O R M A N.com, and you'll
- 25:54Suze: see it right there, jumbo savings. Click there and it
- 25:57Suze: will take you right into where you need to go.
- 26:00Suze: So, I just wanted to tell you about that, because
- 26:05Suze: I do think it is a great rate, because it
- 26:08Suze: is a savings account, because it is insured, and I
- 26:12Suze: personally know what is backing that rate, and I feel
- 26:17Suze: safe with it. So, there you go.
- 26:22Suze: KT said to me, she goes, I want to do that.
- 26:25Suze: I'm gonna do that.
- 26:27Suze: You know how conservative KT is, so when she decides
- 26:30Suze: to do something, it's like, OK, now.
- 26:33Suze: Again, not the highest rate by any means, everybody.
- 26:37Suze: But I never go for the highest rate. I go
- 26:41Suze: for the safest rate. Just that simple. So Super Bowl,
- 26:49Suze: the Olympics, a super jumbo offer from Alliant Credit Union,
- 26:56Suze: and a super return of the market last Friday.
- 27:01Suze: I just want to close by saying if you know
- 27:04Suze: you have good quality stocks, you always continue to dollar
- 27:08Suze: cost average.
- 27:10Suze: Or you know you have enough in a stock and
- 27:13Suze: you just love the stock but you don't want to
- 27:15Suze: put any more money into it like me, by the way,
- 27:18Suze: I did not put more money into the stocks when
- 27:21Suze: they went down. Keith did. I did not, because I
- 27:25Suze: have a serious sum of money in all of them already.
- 27:29Suze: But I have total faith that they will absolutely not
- 27:33Suze: only come back, but they will skyrocket just like many
- 27:37Suze: of them did in 2022. So until Thursday,
- 27:42Suze: when Miss Travis joins us again with the Ask KT
- 27:45Suze: and Suze anything, there's only one thing that I want
- 27:48Suze: you to remember when it comes to your money, and
- 27:50Suze: it is this people first, then money, then things. Now
- 27:55Suze: you stay safe and go to my alliant A L
- 28:00Suze: L I A N T.com just to check out the
- 28:04Suze: jumbo savings offer. All right, everybody, bye bye now.
